History

He was born a normal owl in a set of two, to a large family of Great Grays in a forest far away. His given name was Holutu, and his brother was named Luhotu. He was a bit large for his age always. Wuhuutu, his father, embraced this. Luhotu, on the contrary, was the smaller of the two. Holutu was the favored child, and learned to fly before his twin. On the day he completed his flight training, there was a great ceremony! The twin owl didn't mind, for he liked life in the nest. Even though he was Great, Holutu helped his mother Uutu raise his other siblings when more hatched. Normally, when a male in the Tu family blood line became great, the following day was the start of battle training. This was not so for Holutu, until of course Luhotu learned to fly. The day after Luhotu became Great, Holutu was whisked away by his father to begin lessons on battle. Luhotu embraced nest life, even as a male.

One horrible day, the forest was raided by poachers, trappers, and tamers. The animals had another idea. Wuhuutu himself lead the uprising, and was proud to have Holutu on the wing. The battle was rich, even the deer joined in! Luhotu and Uutu were able to successfully evacuate most of the aviary population, and the front lines were holding strong until...
Blinded by owl droppings, an unknowing poacher rabidly swung around his torch, singing the wing of Holutu. He was down! Captured! Wuhuutu vainly tried to save his son, but was stabbed and sliced until death.

Holutu was collared and sold as a slave. He was spunky, the tamers gave him that, and donned him with the name "Spitgray". He refused to respond to it, naturally. His name was Holutu, he was of the Tu blood line, and he would avenge his father. He was bought by a hunter who wished to use him instead of a weapon, a task he didn't mind all that much. His Master renamed him "Hooty," which wasn't all so far off from his original name. He supposed, since the man fed and watered and sheltered him, he would respond. He would hone and tone his skills.

The sky was smeared in blood the night he killed his master and flew away, flew towards the forest he belonged in.

He was instead swept away, by a windstorm, into a land unfamiliar. It was dead and strange.
He came across a large castle growing out of the mountains and peaks.

No living thing has crossed the threshold of these lands in three thousand years!

A voice boomed from the darkness, and then there was nothing but a green flash.

The following 600 years consisted of doing Helyns dirty work, for with a large ball of glass she showed him the death of his family. She enchanted him, and he finds he has powers.
They can also communicate telepathically.

So begins...

The entrance was grand,
Serene was the sight,
Of that large city,
On that cold night.
Out of the woods
Flew a bird gray,
It was here, decided,
For now he would stay.

Holutu noticed a person below,
Which caused him to descend in flight.
He tucked a feather, hurling down,
Curving himself to the right.
Landing atop a globular street lamp,
The owl watched from his high camp.

He cocked his head sideways, pupils growing from small to large. This person had shiny eyes, for some reason, and upon closer inspection he could see why. Eye armor! How interesting.

Hoo!
Holutu hooted in response, and debated soaring down to meet the person who spoke to him. The owl could talk, but was unsure of whether to reveal that talent just yet.

Holutu straightened his posture and ruffled his feathers, watching as he rummaged inside his coat. What could this guy be looking for?
And what was that over there? The owl heard someone else approaching, just beyond the entrance of the city. He kept his eyes trained on the one below him, however, craning forward to peer.

Holutu caught the movement of the other, and extended a wing in response to the wave. There was something off about that fellow...

And then he heard it, the heartbeat. It was fast, lush, and sounded just like dinner! There was not a moment to spare! The great gray owl flicked out his wings, falling forward towards the street, towards the guy, towards the mouse. Beak open, aiming carefully, like lightning he soared downward. Oh, how exciting, how invigorating! He hadn't hunted a mouse in ages! With a single swoop, a click of his beak, the mouse could surely be his.

Oh no, he did not enjoy being toyed with, landing back up on his post with another ruffle of his wings.

Heps yoo'd ike no food?
The owl clicked down in response. Holutu then turned his back on the men, keeping his ears attuned. His stomach had been reminded of it's hunger.

Holutu could hear the mouse as it soared upwards, turning and snapping it from the air. With a gulp, it was gone, but something was going on below as he swallowed.

Oh! Dinner and a show!

Holutu looked from one to the other, so they were both fanged ones. How curious! One normally didn't come across two in one night. No matter.

His belly full, Holutu erupted into the night. He dipped between the two fanged ones, screeching loudly in goodbye. As the sound diminished, a puff of gray smoke floated from his beak. Diving into it, the owl disappeared.

Holutu descended from the skies,
His armor shining,
Wings spread wide.
Opening his beak,
He let forth a screech,
Which emitted a cloud,
Of which he was proud.
Inside the bar,
The same cloud would form,
And out would fly the owl,
Like a raging storm.

The cloud dissipated quickly, far too fast to be of natural origin. The armored great gray swooped in over the heads of the patrons of Gambits, coming to rest on a stool at the bar. He folded his wings in carefully, metal jingling ever so slightly. With a slight shake of his head, he marched in a circle until he was facing the bar. The flight had left him quite thirsty. A man also approached the bar, speaking some words Holutu couldn't decipher. Nevertheless, the owl turned his beak towards the man, and hooted once.

Holutu turned his attention towards Irahel. He had never liked the troll, but got along with her because his Master requested it. He blinked, pushing one foot behind the other in a bow, extending one wing to the side.

"Heenin," Holutu said in a low tone.

He clicked his beak thrice, eyes blazing into Irahel. Standing taller, he blinked, prolonging the pause between her words and his. Anything to frustrate the troll. Seconds went by, and still he stared, relishing the awkward. As she opened her mouth to speak again, he interrupted with his thoughts.

"Hyrnus Rissin," It was a fact that she had to know. Surely, she would have noticed the absence of the gargoyle by now, but it didn't hurt to clarify.

Holutu shook his feathers with a clink, and let out a little hoot. He had meant what he had meant, and he didn't feel the need to repeat himself. He eyeballed the shiny rock chips as they were placed before Irahel, then glanced at the ordering screen. He had never quite figured out the workings of that, but he supposed he had to learn sometime. Poking out his wings, he flapped once, clearing the distance to the bar top. Angling his head, the owl then stared at the ordering screen.

Holutu was meanwhile extremely busy with the ordering screen, and couldn't be bothered with anything around him. He just needed some water, and maybe a nice juicy rat. Raising one talon he placed it on the screen before him. It changed, showing different images than before. Oh, how he wished he had learned to read! He would have to ask Helyn to teach him one of these days.

"Oods, sun ar," His response to her question was passive, as if he didn't care. Right now, he cared for nothing but nourishment.

Holutu closed his eyes, sending out the call to his Master, the Witch. He needed help with this damned screen, and was most certainly not about to ask the troll.

Holutu continued to poke at the screen, at this point doing a little dance over it. His wings outstretched slightly, he looked quite the show.

Holutu was doing his little jig on the screen when Helyn approached, and with a flutter of his wings he recovered from the shock of her sudden presence. Tilting his head as he glanced up towards her, the owl churred. A click of his beak and a snap of his wings later, the owl was ascending towards the woman's shoulder.

Holutu smugly hopped from her shoulder, landing next to the freshly placed plate of brown rats. Oh, how he loved rattus norvegicus! Maneuvering carefully around his armor, the owl snapped up a rat by the tail. Grotesquely he gobbled it up, crunching the bones beneath his beak and leaving a slight mess beneath him from the punctures. Delicious!

Holutu blinked, then bowed his head to imply that the troll spoke truth.

"Es," he muttered, before diving into the bowl of water for a drink.

Holutu swallowed the second rat whole, for it was relatively small. Juicy! He did his best to hide his satisfaction with the hard time Helyn was giving Irahel.
