James is an 18 year old Pokemon trainer born and raised in Eterna City. Forever by his side is a special Pokemon, Shirona. Shirona is a shiny Gardevoir as she is blue rather than the average green. The two met when James was taking a stroll through the forest, against his mother's warnings when he was 13, thinking he could handle it by now. He saw a small blue Ralts, badly hurt already being attacked by some Gastly's. Not stopping to wonder how the Ralts even got there, James hopped the fence to the old house in the forest to go save the Ralts. He took a few attacks but grabbed the Ralts and ran for home. When he got there, he let the Ralts sleep on his bed and begged his mother to help her as his mother worked at a Pokecenter. Ralts was taken to a center and looked over. She was pretty banged up. Apparently she had tried climbing a tree and fell off from high up as she had some fractures. She also became sick from Gastly's gaseous form. The next few weeks were spent with James sleeping on the floor while Ralts took his bed. He cared for her while she was unable to do so for herself.

One day, Ralts spoke to James outright, saying "Thank you" which surprised him, not thinking Pokemon could talk. When she was fully healed, Ralts left during the night. When James woke up due to the door being closed and saw this, he ran out searching for her. He caught a glimpse of her heading into the forest again so he ran after her. This time however, James was stopped by a couple of men who meant him harm. From the forest came a Shadow Sneak which shot up under one of the men, incapacitating him and the other ran away from the sight, followed by the Ralts rushing over to James with a handful of flowers.

"You got those...for me?" asked a startled James who responded by hugging Ralts. Ralts then asked for James to give her a name of her own. She would see James call the other kids by names and she wanted one for herself. James gave her the name of Shirona, his great grandmother's name. Shirona was delighted and stayed with James for the next while. James finally asked how Shirona came to be near the city since Ralts live further south near Hearthome City. Shirona says she hatched from an egg near that old house. James' mother said that a Staravia may have picked up the egg and brought it over. Shirona said she wasn't that long from hatching when she met James, only a few weeks. James was surprised at how she picked up the languages but she admitted she just spent the time reading through the phonics that were in the cupboard while living with James.

Upon having a Pokemon of his own, James and Shirona eventually set out on their adventure in Sinnoh. Over the course of their adventure, James had saved other Pokemon, a drowning Gibble who couldn't swim, an abandoned Eevee, a Starly whose wing was broken, and a Shinx who picked a fight with a group of Geodudes. He received a Chimchar from Prof. Rowan after he was impressed by James having a team of Pokemon that were not in pokeballs, having formed a very deep bond of friendship with them.

James raised those Pokemon like they were family. James did buy some pokeballs so that his Pokemon could rest in them instead of always walking. Shirona however, refused to be inside one, wanting to always be with James and he obliged. Through his journeys, his team became stronger and even more bonded together. With ease he took the eight badges of the leaders throughout the region, he encountered Team Galactic many times but simply breezed passed them. While he was in Victory road, nearing the end, he heard word of them being disbanded. While he utterly hated what Team Galactic was and did, he never expressly sought them out after being told by Looker to stand down on the case. Assured that an extremely capable trainer was on the job. James knew he meant Dawn, whom he'd met when she came to Eterna for Gardina's badge. Trusting Dawn he decided to stay out of it, like Looker suggested.

James may not always act serious, but when the going gets tough, he can get rough. James tends to shift emotions to the point of extreme when he does shift them at all. He hates being an angry person but has had to let loose a few times. While he was in Hearthome, about to take on Fantina, he heard of a group of Team Galactic grunts who stole Pokemon from trainers in the park were escaping to Veilstone. Outraged, he had Asuka track them as he chased them down. Not only did he thrash their Pokemon, he used explicit force on them, in the way of threatening to sick Garchomp on them and even himself angrily holding one of the guys by his collar and toss him against a wall giving verbal threats and even straight decking one of the smart-asses, to make them release the stolen Pokemon back to their trainers. With their arms twisted behind their backs, they gave back the stolen Pokemon and ran off. James, sick of himself from having gotten angry, went home to Eterna City and just crashed in his room for a week to cool off. The only other time he's ever gotten serious is when he was in Floaroma Town getting some flowers for his mother and for Fafnir. Despite Dawn having dealt with Mars, Team Galactic still tried to come back and take over the Valley Windworks. Cue James storming the location and moments later almost a dozen grunts flee the area, some with bruises, others without even their Pokemon. After buying the flowers, he went back home, gave his mom them as it was her birthday, and promptly proceeded to punish himself for getting angry again.

James and Shirona eventually reached the Elite Four's domain, the Pokemon League. It was a tough road ahead but Vasuman and Raijin beat back Aaron, Asuka and Skadi beat Bertha together, Flint fell to Fafnir's tidal waves, Shirona closed Lucien's book, and finally the team beat Cynthia after a fairly hard fight with Cynthia's team almost stomping James at every turn. While his team could match Cynthia's in power, Cynthia's skill was easily beating him down. Eventually James won thanks to Skadi's snow cloak ability saving her from being defeated many times and together they took down the final Pokemon in the Champion's roster. James was awarded a special pin which he gratefully took and, with the agreement of his team, gave it to Shirona. She wears it with pride. James then left without taking the title of Champion, explaining to Cynthia that he just wanted to explore other regions. He bid her farewell and left on his worldly journey, his "family" with him all the way. A special issue magazine came out in that following day with the front headline "Rookie's Lucky Break!" and a story detailing the lucky moment where Skadi's Snow Cloak lead James to victory against the Champion Cynthia.

After over 4 years of traveling and collecting badges, James found himself stepping off a boat in the Unova region's Castelia City, eager for a new adventure.

James has a special ability to heal his wounds. While this does not heal his stamina and only restores as much hp as leftovers, he has the uncanny ability that when pushed to the brink, his wounds tend to heal.

Diamond nodded to the advice he was given about Castelia city, climbing into his riding Saddle and helping Lucy onto it with him as she nestled close, hugging around his body tightly. "Thank you... I should be close if any of you need help.... just find me." he explained. "With that said, I'll catch ye' later!" he waved with a two-fingered mock-salute before his Charizard took off, heading out towards Castelia City Proper, and away from the castle.

Diamond took the opportunity to look around as his Charizard cruised at a reasonable altitude and at a decent speed. Using his Aura, Diamond was able to pinpoint concentrations of the Shadow Corruption - with the castle obviously being the strongest concentration... and something at the docks? Odd. Deciding to ignore those two for now in case they were something he should be more cautious of, he started on the smaller groups of corrupted trainers and pokemon.

The first group was easy - they were caught off-guard, and panicked, releasing all their pokemon at once. A couple solid Close Combats and Bone-Rushes from Lucy knocked them out, and freed them of the Shadow Corruption, allowing Diamond to hang back and let his partner do her work while Charizard stayed out, and guarded the rear, so to speak.

The second group was a little tougher. A group of four trainers who were all mildly competent.

"Lucy! Stay back... let's let Torterra handle this one!" he said, tossing out his other pokeball. His Torterra was proud and strong, and with a rumbling Earthquake, was able to take out the first wave of pokemon from the group without too much of an issue. "Excellent, Torterra! Just like that!" Diamond Praised, smiling widely.

"I should be a bit more careful with this... If I take out too many I might end up making their boss show up... I sense she'll be too much for even all of my pokemon and myself to handle at once...." he thought, keeping his strong, triumphant look on his face as the second wave of corrupted pokemon were released from their pokeballs.

"Here we go.... get ready!" Diamond called out, eliciting an excited cry and rearing from his Torterra, stomping its front feet onto the ground as it landed, roaring in challenge to the Shadow Pokemon.

"Copy that. Already I'm seeing weather patterns consistent with what Hoenn saw when the super-ancient Pokémon were awakened. The best I can do is try to persuade Princess Melaine to knock it off before too many people get hurt. I'm heading to Driftveil as well, my boyfriend said he had family there."

Over by the pier, it seemed Melaine was addressing a group that had assembled. Traders from another region, perhaps? It was hard to tell from so far away.

Sandra simply stayed quiet and listened for a bit before a thought came into her head, "Wait a sec. Something we didn't address is how the hell this is happening? Also, is Driftveil that place to the West of Nimbasa?"

Touko just shook her head. Yare yare daze.

"Better question. Does it matter? Sounds like we have a plan, let's do it. Melaine is gathering strength and supporters even as we speak. The longer we wait the harder it's going to be to save anyone. I was going to look for where she was getting all her juice, but as Champion, looking after the people comes first."

James nods, knowing Touko and Sandra can't see it. HE does it out of understanding for Touko's role. He however was not tied down by those restraints.

"I'm no champion since I never took the title, so I don't have that obligation holding me down. I'll look into what makes her tick."

"I-I'll head back to Alola from here. See if I can't stir up some defense measures there on Melemele. I'm sure Hala and the Tapu will help but they will need backup. I'm hanging up now because I have to bolt if I'm going to make it there before this travels."

With that, Sandra hung up which left Emiko on the line. She returned Maggy to its pokeball, out popped Toucannon. After climbing onto him they shot off into the sky at a hurried pace.

"If you're on the level of Dawn and Cynthia, the hard part will be finding these conduits. The guards shouldn't be much of an issue. Still...take care. Sayonara."

Touko gulped. There was definitely some kind of standoff brewing. But now might be a good chance to sneak past and head into the desert. Maybe do some shopping at Join Avenue on the way to Driftveil by way of Nimbasa.

A few minutes of assembly later, she was on her Bicycle and riding hard, trying to get through the harsh light and the harsher royal guards before she got into another battle.

"Hah, I may have strength to match them, but my skill is lacking. And you take care as well."

With that, a click sounded to signify James had hung up. He and Shirona set off for the West towards the drawbridge.

James and Shirona arrived at the drawbridge to Driftveil City, Shirona looked a bit miffed.

"James, I told you to take that right. We're finally here because you figured out that the map was upside down. Ugh."

"Yeah yeah... sorry. This is why we don't let me lead. We'll just get stuck again like in Ilex. So this is the drawbridge, it's kinda rustic compared to Nimbasa..."

They both began walking over the bridge, looking around. Seeing the extent of the weather affliction.

As the pair were crossing the bridge, the rain began to let-up.

"It's receding...."

"Guess even she has limits."

Shirona continues to wear the coat James gave her regardless. As they entered Driftveil side of the bridge, she would speak up.

"Well, it was on route 6 which should be a bit north of here."

"Hmm... well you lead then. I'm not thinking straight right now..."

"Right."

They advance cautiously across the drawbridge, in case of ambush.

Unova Wilderness : Driftveil Drawbridge

James would find that with the weather clearing, the bridge was a relatively silent and clear location. It'd be a bit before the wild Pokemon returned, and the status quo resumed. There was no further action to impede his progress.

Unova Wilderness : New Eve Island

It was not long before the castle then came into sight for Diamond and Lucy. The structure was even larger than what was present in Castelia not but a day ago. The weather was also intense as it had been, apparently having been constrained to around the island. The ocean was choppy as well, with waves crashing against the cliffs around the island. Flying over the walls of the castle, Melaine would descend lower to the ground before motioning the Starmie to follow. As she reached ground level within the Inner Walls, she proceeded to have the Starmie drag Diamond and Lucy inside the main hall through a large double door.

I have set the crystal prisons to erode in seconds. Release them inside the hall.

Unova Wilderness : New Eve Palace Gathering Hall

Dragging Diamond inside the hall, the Starmie would both release hold of the crystals once inside. At the same time, the crystals harmlessly vanished, freeing Diamond and Lucy from the temporary prisons. Inside the hall, extravagantly designed as only a castle's hall could be, the purpose was made clear; the hall was designed to be for entertainment. A large table with chairs was present with an arrangement of foods and drinks. There was also a large water feature, among other decorations that caught the eye.

Diamond and Lucy would also notice that there were other Trainers there. No less than five other Trainers, three boys and two girls, each with their own Pokemon present. The Trainers all seemed to be waiting for something, but their Auras were not enveloped in shadow; they were perfectly in control of themselves. Most of them seemed to be relatively comfortable or confident, with their Auras confirming this. The one exception whose Aura showed her as being more afraid, however, also showed the signs physically. Given her pigeon-toed stance and the fact that she stood right in front of her Cofagrigus as if expecting to melt into him and disappear, she was likely a naturally shy and wary type, as opposed to being uneased by the whole affair.

Noticing Diamond and Lucy, one of the Trainers would look up. The young man around Diamond's age smirked and then looked aside.
So, there was another! I'm going to guess you received an invitation from the new 'Champion' as well? I had to admit, the Crystal Writ of Invitation was quite fancy, so I made the trip. Something tells me she's a bad cookie, though. I intend to see for myself, and if needed, put her in her place if she is.

He sounded cocky and arrogant and appeared to be very confident in his own ability. He resembled the typical League Challenger, and had eight Unova badges with him, solidifying his status. With him was an Electivire, enjoying the assortment of fresh Berries and Poffins on offer.

One of the other boys spoke up here, clearly impressed.
You got an invite? Man, wish I received one. I only came out here to meet with a super cute Trainer sporting twintails and curves. She told me that she worked with the new Champion, so she could get me a meeting and a battle if I wanted. I took that up naturally! Gotta impress the girls with my battling prowess after all! Didn't expect to be lead in here by an escort though. I guess with a pad this fancy, you gotta have the security to back it. I don't see the bad though; she looked okay on television.

With his grin and his suave outfit, he was no doubt one of those smooth player types who rarely had a penny to their name, or were otherwise not very successful at landing the girls. With him was a Sandslash that mostly tried to look cool like his Trainer, to the point of mimicking his stance in its best fashion (complete with a jacket).

The other girl and the other boy seemed to be conversing with each other, their Maractus and Gurdurr having a friendly spar.

Aside from the Trainers, there was also what seemed to be a news crew on break, making sure their equipment was ready, and just enjoying the assortments while chatting as if waiting for something.

"Silence. The bridge is empty."

"Alright then, let's hurry up"

The pair quickened their pace, keen on heading to the north exit of the city. Upon entering the city, James was a little surprised at the difference between it and Nimbasa.

"This rustic.... construction town right next to some high tech neon hub of entertainment... Pretty stark contrast if you ask me."

"Buuuut nobody did"

"I was waiting for that sass. That jacket comfortable?"

"Actually, yes. It fits rather well despite it being for a human. I think I'll keep it for a while."

"Nice. But what if I catch a cold without it?"

"Oh you'll be fine. You wear it open anyway."

"Touche."

The pair start laughing as they walk. It's nice to get away from the doom and gloom once in a while. They continued through the city, aiming for the exit to Route 6, but the market catches James' eye.

"Maybe a small restock on some herbs..."

While Shirona disliked how bitter they were, she couldn't deny their usefulness. They went to the market to buy some more herbs and a few other supplies while they were at it.

Diamond and Lucy took in the scenery around them as they flew, and then, perhaps without meaning to, marveled at the castle as they were brought closer. Then, remembering they were imprisoned, regained their composure, and landed on their feet when their Crystal prisons dumped them into the main hall of the Palace along with other trainers and... a news crew? Interesting.

One of the Trainers approached, asking if they were invited. Lucy rolled her eyes, clearly he hadn't seen those Crystal prisons quite literally dump them into the room like garbage. She let Diamond Answer while she tended to Charizard and Torterra from within their pokeballs, rifling through Diamond's bag and finding a couple of revives, and some super potions before handing him back his wounded pokemon. He responded with a smile and a pat on her shoulder before returning to the trainer.

"No, we weren't invited... we were captured..." Diamond answered in the meantime. Their auras were all clean, and besides the girl who was scared, they all wanted to be here in some way, shape, or form. "I'm Diamond, an Aura Guardian. I was trying to cleanse the world of Castelia City when ... her majesty captured me and my partner Lucy... and nearly killed my Charizard..." he explained, gently running a finger over the shrunken pokeball at his hip once it was replaced by Lucy.

"I suggest everyone leave, or fight her with me - I can't beat her alone..." he said. Lucy huffed, and he shot her a glance, frowning and shaking his head. Even with her Mega Evolution, they wouldn't be able to beat Melaine alone, not if she was able to completely destroy his Charizard like that. Lucy was even more of a Glass Cannon than Charizard was, and that was even doubled in her Mega-Form.

He didn't bother mentioning the possible Corruption that these people were going to be exposed to, but then, he didn't really know how well he could resist it, even with his command of Aura being so strong. At this point, he was just going to begin to hope for the best.

Superior Automated Machines : Experiment Room A1

Inside a lab, four girls stood talking to each other.

The first was a teenager. She was wearing a white and light-grey collared mini dress that lacked sleeves, black full tights, and light-grey thigh-high platform boots with a respectable heel. She also had white gloves. Her eyelids had a faint application of a bright neon yellow eyeliner, and her eyes were a greenish yellow color. The standout design feature was her hair, however; bright pink in color, it was styled into twintails that were long enough to reach her shins. Cute green gem hair decs held them in place, and she had what looked like a pair of Safety Goggles on her head, colored light-grey with silverish lenses.

The second was also a teenager. She was wearing a fanciful white and light-grey sleeveless gothic dress whose skirt fell to her knees, matching detached sleeves with a dark-blue frill around the wrists, dark-blue full tights, and magenta colored stiletto heels that weren't less than 4-5 inches tall. She also bore magenta colored gloves and a dark-blue neck ribbon with a gem on it. Her eyes were too a yellowish color, though with a bit more brown than green. Her hair was styled into twintails as well, though they fell only to her neck. Her hair was light-green, and held by two hair decs; magenta colored ribbons.

The third was a slim teenaged girl with average height. She wore a plain but stylish cream dress with a black trim under a bulky and large grey jacket with a zipper, magenta full tights, and high-quality boots both brown and heeled with respectable heels. Her arms and hands, if she had any, weren't visible inside the clearly oversized sleeves of her jacket. Her eyes were a murky magenta color with a trend toward pink, and her short hair was eye-catching in just how green and pale it was. She wore a deadpan expression across her face that contrasted the others' smiles.

The last girl was clearly the youngest and shortest of the group. She wore a white open-back dress in a lolita fashion with a fishnet frill and pink trim, pink ankle ribbons, and pink Mary Jane platform shoes with a respectable heel and a white rose dec. Her gloves were pink and short, and she had a pink neck ribbon with a white rose on it as well. Her eyes were blue, but were not as standout as her hair. Almost as the first teenager's hair, it was nearly floor-length twintails, though these were also in a bright pink and bright blue two-tone that turned into drills towards the bottom. A strand of hair also formed a heart-shape atop her head.

You are so joking about that, Janice! I'm like, in disbelief that a Gym Leader would so decide that she had any right to attack other Trainers!

Well, that's just how it is! She was scared, as I stated. Weak people are always scared when they encounter something stronger than they are.

Hee hee! This will be fun; seeing what direction we go now! I like it a lot!

The three turned to the girl in the jacket.
Rachel, you are so quiet. You should so give your opinion. We so all want to hear it from you, as the Kalosian Champion.

After thinking a moment without actually showing such, the girl in the jacket looked aside, sporting a slightly smug expression.
I think you're right. In that, you all so want to hear it. My opinion, though, is more complex. I think you should finish what he started, Lovrina. Not actually finish, though, as in ending it. But the kind of finish that only continues the act indefinitely. Two entirely different finishes. I wonder if the act looks better when it's been finished, like the coating you apply to a surface to make it shiny. Minus the coats and the shiny Pokemon.

The girl with the extravagant hair continued.
That sounds great! Father clearly liked you enough to put you in charge of his work, Lovrina. So you should continue it!

Yeah, we're fine with it. Like, you're really capable if you made something able to defeat the Grand Champion.

Well, then I so won't let you all down. I so mean it! I'll see the rest of the experiment through!

Driftveil City : Market

The market was bustling at the current time of day. With the weather calming down, people were returning to their usual activities and business. The patterns of purple clouds that still rolled through the sky kept everyone wary, however. The lady selling the herbs gave an appreciative nod and word of thanks to James for his purchases before turning to express surprise at a crowd of excited people gathering around someone.

At the center of the crowd, James and Shirona would be able to see a slim teenaged girl with average height. She wore a deadpan, if vaguely smug, expression across her face that contrasted the excitement of those around her.

Wow! Rachel!

Wait, that's Rachel?

Yeah! Rachel is great! She's the Kalosian Champion! She's said to be very tricky to beat!

Yeah, a legendary battler!

Rachel! Can I get an autograph?

Rachel, I'll be rooting for you in the World Tournament!

Where do I buy the merchandise?

Amid all the questions and comments, the girl spoke.

It's okay. I'm not tricky to beat. Just difficult. You need to win. Winning is what is truly difficult. So that is why I'm difficult to beat.

Seeing the book pushed into her face for an autograph, she gave a deadpan smile and replied.
Can you? I've always wondered if you could. I suppose you're like the other people, who are able to. That means you can then, I guess. I don't know. But I will sign your book for you. I can do that.

As a large bipedal humanoid Daunting Pokemon heard this, it turned to grab a small marker that had a shoot attached to the cap. Uncapping the device for Rachel, it held it out to her, allowing her to bite the marker between her teeth. Holding the marker with her teeth, she signed the book for the fan. After handing the marker back to the Daunting Pokemon, she smiled at the fan.
Now you have my autograph. You can do whatever you want with it. It isn't an auto or a graph, but I am sure it fits what you requested.

The fan seemed pleased.
Thank you, Champion Rachel!

"Huh, so that's the Champ of Kalos, eh? A girl. Then again, Iris is a little girl so that means nothing at all."

James just pocketed the herbs he bought as Shirona munches on a Custap berry they purchased as well.

"Yes. She's the Champion. She has a tricky battle style to boot. Main thing is though... She shares the last name with Nendal..."

"Great. So we have to worry about her siding with the Diance... Not good. Best thing to do is to play it cool. I doubt we could beat a champion out of the blue..."

"Are we all restocked?"

"We are indeed. Potions, berries, snacks and herbs. We're good for a while."

"Hm... If we leave now, there likely won't be too much resistance considering the crowd now. Also a lack of anybody at the gates of the place. We should avoid mentioning anything we've seen and our motives as well."

"Yes, Ma'am. But why not a casual pace instead of a rushed one? I'm a little hungry..."

Shirona nods as she finishes her berry. They do take a seat at a table to eat some food they bought.

James finished wolfing down his meal and dropped the fork onto the picnic table, clearly satisfied.

"Man it feels good to have actual food in your system... running around on an Ice Cream cone I ate like, 2 days ago is not good for me... You all done guys?"

He looks to his family of a team and most of them were indeed finished their various snacks (details of which in bio). Skadi's head was stuck in the bag of pretzels though, which made James laugh before helping the girl out. Skadi licked herself clean before James put everybody in their balls.

"Alright. Meal time is over. We should head out now."

Suddenly James' phone gives a chime and he checks it to find a text from Allen. The usual rival talk of 'I'll beat you this time'. Seriously? One of the worst scenarios is going down and he STILL cares about that battle they had almost a year ago? James sighed and put away the phone.

"Great....Allen's in Unova too. I know I told him I was coming to Unova, but I also told him to get 8 badges first. I may not be a champion by title but I am due to defeating one... Beating him would be the same as stomping one of the school kids back home. I just hope he doesn't get in the way too much."

"Well we could always use him as a distraction. Also, here. I don't think I'll need this jacket anymore."

Shirona took off the jacket James put on her and handed it back. While James put it on he responded to Shirona's words.

"Thanks, also normally I would be horrified at that option, but that might work if we play with his ego. I doubt I will do it though. I'll try to let him down gently. Tell him he can have his rematch later or something. I can't put up with his shit right now. We need to get going."

"Indeed we do."

The pair hurried to the north exit of the city, for route 6. Going around the crowd gathered in the marketplace.

The duo was just calmly walking down the path when they spotted Emiko and company. Shirona urged James to speed it up and make contact. They were supposed to check out something else, why were they here?

Jogging up near the pair, James would call out, "Hey, you two! I thought you were off to check on your family or something? Done already or do they live in this place?"

"We spotted The Kalosian Champion in town and she went this way. Figures she would go here considering her family."

Shirona would take note of Radegast's figure and infer a few things from the phone call and what she sees now. She would attempt a small look into the man's mind, only to abort it seconds later, not wanting to be nosy.
