Kharid

Misranian Terran, rebel and dragon rider.

0 · 291 views · located in The Bluff

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Gasmask

Description

Image
Kharid is a shabby man with nothing to his name. His life was sold to him with a price; to bear the chain throughout his life. He is a troublemaker within the rebellion, he rides a dragon, and is a very cunning manipulator with a criminal past( Like all good manipulators and dragon riders ). Kharid also has a very Arabic-like accent.

Image
Kamakina or "Eruca Dragon"

A very large dragon with brown scales with soft black spots around the wing area which have been strengthened with strong metal-like alloy; It bears little resemblance to the other dragons on Misrana, looking more like it's brothers on Terra than it does to the the more traditional Kamakina.

Crank bears all the cybernetics and rockets that it's smaller cousins have. With the addition of a larger rockets on either side of it's hind quarters and some very nasty metal teeth. The harness bears a light caliber machine-gun behind it for dealing with other dragons and more hooks and straps than usual to keep Kharid on it's back.

Image
Kharid carries a black face-bandana, dragon-riding goggles made out of steel and thick glass, a crooked knife in his belt and a pistol hooked to his waist. A dragon-whistle with audio-amplifier and of course his signature weapon.

The Chain; A jagged and spiked chain wrapped around Kharid's right arm that is linked to Kharid. Any pain that would befall the chain he feels, it is Un-removable and animate. Shattering it would kill Kharid and it generates length when needed. Kharid can use it as a whip too.

So begins...

"And here I was expecting a boring name, Wing City doesn't seem to disappoint me. Even if it's a few centuries beyond where I'm from." Kharid laughed. "Where I'm from? Just a boring planet with a dragon infestation." Kharid said, holding out an excessively tattooed appendage to shake hands with the youth. "I guess I'm one to say it, since I'm the one wearing all the belts." Khaird added jokingly.

"You're from here, yes?"

Kharid laughed. "They're alright if you let em' smell you first... I promise." Kharid grinned, grimy teeth and all. All this time in Wing City and toothbrushes were still a world away from his thoughts. "Lucky, I grew up on the side of a ship, was only on the ground for a week at a time and my old man would get me to hoist the colors. This place looks far more dangerous than my youth. I ain't just talking about the pub neither." Kharid told the vampire, the chain responding to the slight touch by recoiling to the underside of his arm.

"Careful, it's more trouble than it's worth."

"Stab a few people, steal a few ships, sleep on the streets. The usual to earn a clip behind the ear and a social visit by the Dominion. A group of megalomaniacs back where I'm from. They're meant to keep you chained to the wall. As you can see..." Kharid turned his arm around, the chain still resting on his wrist. "It didn't work as they intended.

Shh though, it's a secret." Kharid rose a finger to his lips and hissed. The rider moved his other hand to gesture to the inside of his coat. "I'm not the only one carrying around something interesting. The shanks back home don't need no fancy patterns on em'." Kharid begun.

"Hey, that's the point. You're pullin' it off. I woudn't have called the knife till you'd run me though with it, Arien." Kharid replied, grinning. This kid knew what he was doing, it made him think of the kind of youth the rest of the planet had to offer if this was just one. "Is it lucky? Or just something to scare off the street thieves?" Kharid added.

He shook his head. "I ain't a dangeruos' criminal now though, I'm all refun- refoun- What's the word I'm lookin' for?"

"Reformed, that's the word." Kharid nodded a few times just to be sure that Arien knew he was a 'reformed criminal' rather than a 'average-normal criminal.'

"I'm still a criminal, one from another planet, mind you, so I'm still not playing by your rules." Kharid replied, winking.

Kharid made a funny little sigh. "Well, I'm looking for a group of extra ordinary people for an extra ordinary adventure. In search of treasure and the like, like golden skulls and floating ships." Kharid leaned forward and rested an elbow on his knee, looking back towards Arien.

"Ain't havin' much luck."

The Perilous Incline had lived up to it's name so far, one hand clutching a rock and the other holding a map fluttering in the wind. Judging from the markings the previous owner had made, this temple here had a considerable amount of religious significance, and where religion was involved, there was loot. The rider stuffed the map back into his pockets and swung himself up and over the small cave opening.

Kharid thought he heard voices, a soft voice and another more experienced one, but who the hell would be up here now?

Kharid unhooked a chain from his leg, connecting it to one of the belts hanging off his waist and gave the other end of the chain a solid flick. The chain hissed and opened one of it's links with a click, the rider swung it at a nearby pillar with a loud grunt. The chain traveled though the air and bit into one of the left-most pillar. The rider came up upon the force-field blocking his path. No matter how hard the rider walked towards it, it would not let him pass a certain threshold.

Kharid banged against the invisible field with his arms. Several times with resounding bangs. Why woudn't it open? It certainly wasn't budging to his fists. The rider pulled a pistol from his belt and pointed it at the force-field.

Then he pulled the trigger.

Kharid looked at his gun, looking at the barrel and then pointing it at the force-field again. Kharid shot off another bullet, and it simply broke against the shield. The rider swore and put the gun back onto his belt. The rider pulled a whistle from his belt and raised it to his lips and blew deeply. The whistle did not make a shrill high-pitched scream, it sounded more like a throaty roar.

Kharid raised a hand to his ears and turned his ear in the direction of the temple entrance. "Must be' hearin' things. Fuckin' wind." Kharid turned back to the subject at hand, standing at the edge of the entrance and started to take a whiz off the edge while he waited.

The chain rattled on the nearby pillar as the man went flying off the cliff-side. The chain kept sailing downwards until a large crack sounded and a hand slammed onto the edge of the temple. "That wasn't very nice." Kharid growled though his teeth, hauling himself up and taking a combat position with his back straight, standing a full six foot.

"Round two, bitch?"

Kharid thundered down the stairs from the upper floors of Gambits. A man with decorated dreadlocks and the swagger of a man used to being in the air, instead of the ground. The rider was also covered in belts from the lower waist down. Kharid arrived at the counter and ordered a hearty whiskey and turned around to examine the current bargoers.

Nothing but a young lady. "You look bored for someone who looks like they do a lot of explorin' Lady." Kharid said to Taylor with a jagged grin.

"You could say that. Ain't got time for casual clothes, bein' in a rebellion and all." Kharid replied, amused as he leant back on the counter. "Got a dragon' too, belts are for securin' me to Crank. Crank's not allowed in the bar though, being huge and all." Kharid shrugged. She definitely had the physique of a warrior, or at least he thought so.

"I do too much sitting when I roam around, hahaha."

"Heh. Well I didn't steal yours, Crank's 1000 kilos of rage and metal. Bred for war on Misrana, I'm here looking for people to join the rebellion, but ain't havin' much luck. Not Terra's war, to be honest." Kharid threw some whiskey down his throat and laughed. "They're all a bitch to feed, yeah. A horse would be fine here, if it wasn't for the fact I just can't bring myself to leave Crank."

Kharid stopped and the smile broadened. "What's 'er name?"

"Kharid. Ain't got a last name, cuz' I'm a bastard." Kharid shook back vigorously with his leathery hand, the arm had a coiled spiked chain wrapped around it that writhed like a snake when they shook. "Dragon warrior... Heh. You'd be one too then, having owned one." Kharid swiped a nearby glass and poured some whiskey into it and held it out for her.

"To dragons?"

"I'll probably be here a few more days, or a month if I can help it. I like it here." Kharid replied, pouring himself another glass of whiskey and offering her the bottle and a seat at the counter. "What about you, Taylor. Roamer or have you figured you might stay a while like myself?" Kharid asked, taking a swig of his refilled whiskey glass.

"I'll tell ya a secret. I'm actually hoping to dump the revolution and get into the bodyguard business around here, a rebellion is too taxing."

"A ranger! Hah. This mortal man hasn't got a blade." Kharid winked and lifted up his hand with the chain wrapped around it. "Sounds like you're used to this kind of business. The dark woods, I've only been there once. Didn't seem too friendly, how can you be at home there?" Kharid asked, putting on an astounded face.

"Well, you know anyone in need of a bodyguard?"

Kharid laughed heartily. "Thank you, Taylor. I shall do that, but what of you? You know why I'm here and what I'm about to do. What is a ranger doing planet-jumping?" Kharid asked, taking another swig of whiskey with a friendly looking smile.

The rider kicked his feet up. "I'd rather deal with people than trees myself, trees can't talk, at least not to me. Maybe I don't interest trees?"

Kharid leaned back, flicking some dreadlocks out of his face. "Both of those prospects are interesting to say the least, Taylor. How do you get fired from saving a civilization? That's like... Getting fired for being a good guy? I don't know, I'm far too tipsy for discussions about saving things." Kharid shrugged, focusing his eyes on her.

"I don't think I'll ever be sober enough for that kind of discussion anyway." Kharid joked. "You can save me anytime." Kharid added, laughing with a red-face.

"He- Hey. I paid good money for that. Life wasting or no." Kharid said, finishing off his glass of whiskey and looking mournfully at the bottle that seemed very far away now. Kharid needed a lot more alcohol than that to get as drunk as Taylor looked now. "I'll tell you right now, Taylor. It is illegal to call being lazy pathetic, I find that being busy is far too... busy for my taste."

"Where are you from anyway, Taylor?"

"It used to be a place of wonder for a kid, then the civil war reared it's ugly head. It's got floating cities, great deserts, dragons and all sorts of weird little wonders and terrors. Living machines and bronze beasts. It's no place for honor nowadays." The rider said sadly, half-drunkenly. "Mysterious agendas, a bastard born begotten. It's all a sad story of civil war. There are many like it." Kharid grinned, snatching at the bottle.

"You might like it, Ranger. If you manage to avoid the rebellion and war."
