Description

Koishi Komeiji
(The Unknowable Sister)

Sister of Satori Komeiji

History

Koishi is the younger Komeiji, sister to Satori, and like her, also a satori. While Satori found her own ways to accept and cope with both the ups and downsides to her mind-reading ability, Koishi couldn't handle it. One day, through means she doesn't willingly discuss, she completely sealed her Third Eye, and "killed" the reason she felt feared and hated by others - in the process, sealing her own heart and feelings off from the world as well.

While this did work, and other people ceased to find her frightening, this changed her so much, it didn't mean anything to her at all. She became "static" in her new state, and unreceptive to attempts at opening her up again.

When Satori ordered her own pets to play with her sister, and even giving Koishi some to take care of herself, it only had a minimal affect - at times, she seemed almost to respond, and at others, as if she were only going through the motions. Only the encounter with the Heroines stirred her enough to feel interest and commonplace ambition. Not enough to truly open her heart again yet, but enough to stir it, and rouse long-forgotten parts and the first feeling of regret she's had in ages.

Personality

Koishi is at heart a lonely girl who mostly just wants to belong and be accepted. Ironically, in the process of doing the one thing she thought would give her this simple happiness, she completely closed herself off from it.

In the world she exists in now, she is utterly alone in a way no one else can truly comprehend. And the worst part is, she doesn't feel it - her obtaining a state of "highest happiness" as Buddhism puts it, gives her a perpetually carefree feeling that prevents her from realizing what she's truly done to herself. Her heart is shut tight even from herself, and buried deep in a sea of false contentedness.

So she wanders the world like a forgotten ghost that can occasionally be seen by others, leaving and returning home when she pleases, unheralded and unannounced, living according to mercurial whims, and doing as she pleases. She maintains worldly connections, but distantly and at arms length, though she still feels them - her pets, her sister, her home, links she still feels and keeps up, but not with the same investment.

Since she's usually cheery, her interactions with others are almost always with this face, regardless of circumstance - this can make her seem disturbing, lacking in tact and/or empathy and sympathy, or peculiarly detached at varying times. But she can also be a bit Mischievous to get sharp reactions and connections, but seldom to the level of a real prankster - she enjoys a good tease, and otherwise prefers to go along with others' jokes, even at her own expense, since embarrassment too is something she doesn't feel strongly from such things.

Within the Multiverse

After Gensokyo's access to the greater Multiverse, Koishi had a whole larger expanse to explore. Satori had even more trouble keeping in contact with her sister now, and Koishi would be spotted all across the Multiverse in various locations, even inexplicably showing up in places she doesn't belong. Her inherent ability to disguise herself from the majority of people through her manipulation of the subconscious being very useful in evading hostile forces all across the Multiverse, rarely experiencing conflict...and rarely engaging in it. In most scenarios, if she is thrust into conflict, she often chooses to leave instead of stick around and risk herself, even despite her power...it's often not worth the time and risk...

Powers and Abilities

Koishi possesses the power to Read and Manipulate the subconscious.

As a practical matter, Reading it means she can see the base instincts and impulses of others, but unlike Satori's ability, not words, thoughts and details, feelings, or desires - an excellent ability for protecting herself, and a near-useless one for understanding another creature's heart and needs, or communicating with someone who can't otherwise (like animals.)

Her ability to Manipulate it, however, is truly frightening. At its heart, this allows her to subtly play on others' capacity to Perceive and Recognize - without both, from another person's perspective, a thing simply doesn't exist on any level. Koishi mainly makes use of this to an extreme degree, to maintain a state of faux-Mu/Nirvana - a practical death of the "self". If she doesn't make her presence known to be acknowledged, both she, and any actions she commits, won't be recognized by others.

This gives her an invisibility that is more than perfect, allowing her to wander around unseen, unheard, and utterly unnoticed by all around her. It's not that others can't see her, but they literally can't perceive her or her actions' existence until she calls attention to herself to be recognized. Explanations for otherwise unexplainable phenomenon, are shifted onto the user's subconscious to fill in the gap of recognition.

Things she does that others could notice, won't be seen as the work of "some sneaky ninja person hiding around here," but instead shifted subconsciously to whatever other reasons the person might attribute them to - for example, she can eat another's food out from under them, and they will instead believe another in the room did it, they did it themselves before they knew it, etc.

Furthermore, even when recoginized, no creature save perhaps the Yama, can actually sense her as being "there" - you can see her, she's talking to you, she can even be touched, but has no "presence" or sense of self to be felt at all. Even her sister can't perceive her until she makes herself known, or detect/read her thoughts when she does.

So begins...

Koishi had been a wanderer across the Multiverse for some time, she cropped up here and there - especially in population centers. She had become very adept at hiding from others through the use of her manipulation of the subconscious, only ever showing up on TV and electronic feeds as a blur of static vaguely taking a humanoid shape. Even still, she remained elusive.

Once more she found herself in Caprica City, one of the hives of interesting humans she liked to observe on a day-to-day basis. She rarely remembered what she saw during these trysts where she investigated and examined people, only vaguely recalling that she had been some place...the finer details always eluded her.

Not that she cared.

Once more Koishi found herself walking down a Caprican street, her arms swinging side to side...she had a big grin on her face, and wondered...what if she brought her sister here? Would she like the people here?

While the girl walked down the busy streets of Caprica City, a camera shifted to focus it's attention on her for a moment, running her through facial recognition scans.

There was no match.

Signals were sent, and there was a notification broadcast.

Being as carefree and ambivalent as Koishi was to many things, she walked by completely unaware of any of the cameras which may have been trained on her. She was only familiar with the handheld cameras like Aya had, she didn't really know about the automated ones...

Koishi briefly bumped past a civilian, leading to a confused citizen searching around...but, due to her manipulation of the subconscious, the individual thought it was merely someone else who bumped past him. Koishi remained completely undetected, as usual for her! Though, with the signals sent out to the authorities, her luck was likely about to run out.

Voidwalker.
That was only what he called himself, really. He forgot his name a while back, but the Company called him 13-AE.
The company was why he was here, on Langara. Simple collection of information in a hazardous environment, relating to a target demographic in the Aschen Government they were trying to reach. They needed someone disposable, somebody they could simply remake. He had been sure to go through all of the proper channels, to be as legal as possible. The Company provided most of the things he needed, but they ultimately left it up to him to actually do the work. Maybe they were afraid of getting into his way, but he had no way of discerning that.

He wasn't a human being, despite how much he looked like one, how much he was one, biologically, at least. His mind was there, it had just been reduced to nothing but mass a long, long time ago, at the time leaving his body inert. Now, he was more reliant on his soul to pilot his physical matter, something he did from a distance. Maybe it was possession, he had no way of knowing, and nobody else had any way of discovering it. A miracle, maybe. It definitely helped with the biometric monitoring the Aschen had, as he was seen as simply functioning, and his mind was simply sparking with regular thought, something he was able to control almost perfectly.

In any case, maybe that disconnect from a mind, the eradication of anything but consciousness, contributed to his ability to notice Koishi. For a moment, he just sees her as a girl, dressed quite dissimilarly from the average Aschen citizen, something he had done his best to emulate. They didn't usually take kindly to outsiders, evidenced by the "Two Minutes Hate" that occurred not far from here. Then he noticed... the influence the girl gave out, the subtle command to ignore, ignore. It washed over his body, and for a moment it almost worked, before he forced himself to deny it.

It was curious, for sure. He pauses for a moment, appearing to check his watch, staring up through a mirror under the watch hands at the security camera observing the crowd. Yes, it was following her. Interesting.
He weighs his options for a moment, considering whether or not to involve himself, all the while staring at his watch. On the one hand, this didn't involve him, and it would likely have some impact on his mission. On the other hand, time was not an issue, and it probably wouldn't impact much to simply assist, however mildly.
He decides to help, however mildly.
He begins walking after Koishi, walking towards the girl before turning to walk alongside her. He stays quiet for a moment, weighing his options of what to say, before choosing the simplest option and speaking.
"Greetings. What brings you here?"

"Two individuals in sector seven, Retinal scans and facial recognition are negative, please investigate possible breach in security..."

The dispatcher's voice, and EVE's shimmering visage filled the interior of the CPF Patrol vehicle in a soft blue sheen while the pair of officers enjoyed their coffee and fried pastries.

"So they're dispatching us and not the local blues, Joe?" One of the officers asked, while the driver shrugged. "Dunno, but we should check it out, we're not far."

"Right right..." The driver said putting his car into gear, pulling out from the parking lot where they had been sitting.

Moments later, through the traffic, the stretch of sidewalk where Koishi and the Voidwalker were present would be lit up with flashing blue lights, a single black and white patrol car rolling up and coming to a stop. The pair of officers wearing dark blue uniforms, trimmed with white sleeves, and dark sunglasses emerged from within, each holding their hands on unusual looking batons holstered at their belts.

"Excuse me!" The officers called out. "You two! Come here!" They demanded.

"Tango-Alpha I am on station..." One of them called into his radio. "Request Crisis response for possible unidentified entities."

At first she was a bit surprised by someone approaching her, especially since most people had such trouble just noticing her presence, let alone noticing her. Still, stranger things have happened! After all, maybe he knows her sister? People who knew Satori usually had a better chance of recognizing Koishi - though even her sister struggled in that respect.

"Hey there!" She replied to Voidwalker, casually and without a care in the world, swaying her arms to and fro as she walked. "I'm just wandering, you know! I end up places, I usually just come by, explore, then leave!" As she said this, she tilted her head in Voidwalker's direction with a quizzical look on her face. "Are you a child? Normally, children and the elderly can see me normally...but oootherwise, people have trouble..."

As she thought to herself what could've made him more likely to spot her, she stopped as Koishi saw the flashing blue lights and some people step out of their cars.

"Oh look!" She motioned to Voidwalker to look in the officer's direction. "We have friends! I bet they were looking for us."

As she said this, she waved to them and began to walk over - not a care in the world, and smiling throughout the whole way.

"Hello friends! Are you here to greet us?"

The Voidwalker grimaces, exhaling slightly. "Ah."

He walks to the officers alongside Koishi, holding his hands half-raised as he does so, clutching the briefcase in one arm. Almost as a side thought, he responds to the girl's question. "I'm hardly a child, I fear. My soul is older than my body, if you can understand."

He raises his voice to address the policemen, silently noting their actions. "Greetings, officers. I hope there's no issue?"

Lowering his voice to address Koishi again, he pauses momentarily before speaking, his face darkening slightly as he stares forward at the officers. "Kid, listen. These people probably aren't here to be friends, so I would be careful. I don't even know if they notice you, either. Just play it safe."

Once he's a safe distance from the policemen, he lowers an arm to set the briefcase down on the sidewalk, then raises it back up again to put both of his hands behind his head. "I apologize, did I do something wrong?"

Normally it was unlikely the officers would notice through the fog the girl was generating, but with the AI assisting, and cameras triangulating what was going on, the officers knew they were there.

Their radios chattered and both officers took up positions while the lead approached even closer. "We seem to be having trouble getting positive identifications on the two of you, are you tourists?" A small triangular drone with flashing blue lights zipped past them, and began to hover immediately above them.

"Your identification papers, please."

The officer's white gloved hand was outstretched.

Koishi seemed completely unfazed with what was going on, waving a hand to Voidwalker - almost dismissively, as she smiled.

"Don't worry, don't worry, I'll be fine!"

As the officers spoke, she tilted her head, curious as to how they could spot her...she was unaware of what AI was, or any advanced technology really. Oh well! Either way, she was happy to be able to speak to people again, it was almost like things were back to normal for a moment!

When asked if she was a tourist, she nodded slowly. "Yep! I just sort of wander around places, I end up in the strangest places too...! I think this is my...second time here? This city is really pretty."

Afterwards when asked for identification she blinked and held her finger up for them to wait a moment as she produced a folded piece of paper she would hold out for them to take. It was...crudely drawn on with crayon, listed her name, her "status" as a tourist, and a small stick figure representation of herself. On the back it looked to be a more official albeit foreign ID...of some sort.

Name: Koishi Komeiji
Species: Satori
Nationality: Gensokyan
Address: Chireiden, Old Hell, Gensokyo
"In the event of my sister causing trouble, please come to Chireiden and let me know." - Satori Komeiji

The identification was likely only meant to be displayed where she originally lived, and wasn't too helpful here. Still she smiled along and waited for their reaction.

That's bad.
He didn't get a good look at the ID that Koishi had given, but it was drawn on what looked to be some kind of printer paper.
That's not going to fly at all.
He lowers his hands to reach into his chest pocket, withdrawing a small canvas wallet, the green color of it faded slightly with age. He rifles through it for a moment before withdrawing three cards, all a glossy plastic. One was his personal ID, showing him as a registered corporate citizen. It listed his real name, one he didn't attach much of himself to.
"Business, actually. Here for a job."
Image

The other two were equally as important, one being a work visa that he was beginning to doubt the veracity of, glancing at it a second time. It looked legit, but he really had no way of telling. The company had failed to get him real things before. The final card was a mission statement, stating that "Marcus Walker - SEC Representative, Present in the Aschen Empire for 6 days to contact several individuals in hope of opening Security Specialization to Aschen Gov."
He holds them out steadily, and glances over at Koishi again before straightening his gaze back to the cops.

Cracks, through time, through space, through... and more literally, this mirror. A rupture, a rapture? For reasons unfathomable, monochromatic cracks scarred the breach in space and time, and from the rupture emerged a long, lanky arm extending from a plane that should not be. Additional fractures manifested, birthing another arm that reached out and descended, fingertips grazing the floor, yanking its unseen master from the temporal abyss. A series of ominous hollow thumps followed, and breaking free of the spatial divide, a head surfaced—hair jet black, features hidden behind a vague beaked mask. The obscenely tall figure extracted itself from the silvery abyss, draped in gray rags, feet swathed in bandages, and adorned with crude shoes. Temporarily on hands and knees, the figure explored the floor, seizing the shards of the shattered mirror in one hand and sifting through black sand without consequence in the other. Standing upright, the figure stretched and twisted its neck, emitting a series of ethereal pops.

"Ah, what a perplexing peculiarity, the air is... hm," uttered the figure, touching the mask where a mouth should be. It then took measured steps in a circle around the room, each stride strangely ethereal and muted. "Is this, perhaps, the... other side? The realm of endless misery, chaotic disarray, the sickly depraved, the oppressed, and the displaced. A realm of war, endless suffering, mourning, death, and destruction."

The figure bowed its head, rubbing the chin of its mask in somber contemplation.

"Perhaps it is time for all of that to simply," the figure continued, scooping up a handful of black sand, then pouring it from one hand into the other, freezing it in mid-air. "Stop."

OttO, the Mask Maker, the Herald of Untime, He Who is Not, the looney who talks a lot about nothing, embarked on a purposeful stride toward the door, opting for a more civilized exit. As he grasped the handle, a moment of reflection enveloped him, prompting the consideration of extending personal thanks to those inadvertently responsible for facilitating his arrival. Even if the act of cracking the looking glass and outright breaking causality was, in his peculiar estimation, probably fairly common, it certainly hadn't occurred to this staggering magnitude. Temporal fractures splintered the fabric of time itself, cracks spreading like chaotic webs in every conceivable direction. The very essence of time seemed to be unraveling, an intricate tapestry fraying at the seams as the fractures expanded relentlessly, it is... beautiful.

With a brief, courteous bow to any lingering spectators, he opened the door and left.
