Lawrence Anderson

A Terran who trained to be a Ghost, Lawrence is ideal for reconnaissance missions due to his marksmanship and ability to hide himself from view of most biological enemy units.

Description

Lawrence is unremarkable, standing 5 foot 8 and weighing in at 160 pounds. His build is lean but muscular, a result of the intense conditioning he was forced to go through in order to master his latent psychic powers. He has the look of a man in his thirties with graying brown hair who has seen many terrible things all done in the name of some cause or other.

Personality

Lawrence is somewhat of a study in contradictions. When he's got nothing better to do, he's carefree and relaxed. But when he's on a mission, he is all business, caring first about protecting his comrades and second about completing the objectives assigned. Having the authority to call in tactical nuclear strikes tends to weigh on him, though.

Equipment

Lawrence rarely leaves his base without some kind of weapon. When on military duty, he's toting a C-10 Canister Rifle, which offers superior range and devastating damage per hit at the cost of a reduced rate of fire, while wearing a neural-interface suit which magnifies his psionic abilities, turning him into a super-soldier. His superior visual acuity is partly thanks to laser eye surgery and partly to years of practice with shooting at far-away targets. Off-duty, he usually gets by with one of the many civilian makes of pistols.

History

During the civil war that saw the coronation of Emperor Mengsk I as the ruler of all Terrans in the Koprulu Sector, Lawrence distinguished himself by his superior ability to lock down mechanical units, leaving them vulnerable while his comrades stormed in to finish off the helpless enemy unit.

So begins...

Lawrence Anderson gave another half-toothed grin. "Let's not be coy. You already know." He reached into his faded blue jeans and withdrew a fairly large wad of high-denomination bills. "The only question left, then, is how much this will get me. I don't think we discussed that while arranging this...rendezvous. So now I can ask you myself."

Lawrence Anderson approached the prone Sadie, his eyes taking on the predatory glare he usually reserved for when he was lining up the perfect shot to take out a target. "I've been out in the elements for 3 days on end, waiting for the perfect moment to take just one shot. The only one I have questions about as far as endurance goes is you." He hovered his hands over Sadie's presented curves, wanting to build the same feeling of anticipation in her that he had while waiting for her arrival.

Lawrence Anderson took the silent invitation and sat down beside her a little more forcefully than necessary, causing Sadie's part of the bed to bounce a little bit. "Now, let's discuss what you will and won't let me do. Even girls like you have standards, after all. There's one more thing--I'm supposed to be on the lookout for a man with a silver rapier and more chemicals than you can shake your perky teats at. Sound familiar?"

Lawrence Anderson shrugged. "He's supposed to be running some kind of smuggling operation. The details...eh, doesn't matter. I suppose now we get down to mixing business with pleasure, eh?" He leaned in closer, but instead of going for a kiss, his face dipped down at the last second to get an up-close view of her neckline and cleavage. A certain amount of unpredictability was necessary to keep the other interested, after all.

Lawrence Anderson clomped downstairs and into the most infamous hive of scum and villainy anyone had ever known. Sweat gleamed from his "expanded" forehead and he was breathing hard. "Bartender...I'll take one of your dinner specials. Surprise me." Then he stopped for a moment, then started jabbing at the touch screen.

Lawrence Anderson furrowed his brow at the interference. It was clear that he was NOT in the mood for such shenanigans, though whether or not he had the energy to do anything beyond pounding the bar with his fist and shouting obscenities at the screen was another question. A stream of profanity issued forth from the aging man's maw as he found himself unable to order dinner.

Lawrence Anderson turned angrily towards the sultry-sounding female. "Oh yeah? If you know so much about what's wrong with it, why the hell don't you fix it already? I've just had a really long day, and I need a nice big Angus cheeseburger!"

Lawrence Anderson fell out of his chair when the unit exploded in his face, landing rather unceremoniously on his back. "Ow...ow..." He winced, groaned and swore for a few more seconds, then managed to pull himself up. "Guess I'm gonna have to do things the old-fashioned way. Lady, could you buy me an Angus cheeseburger?" There was no small amount of anger in his voice even as he tried to act like one of those southern gentlemen.

Lawrence Anderson did a double-take. "Hang on. The hell do you mean, you're a vampire? If you were, you're a damn crappy one for letting that little tidbit slip."

Lawrence Anderson seemed less unfazed and more disbelieving. "Yeah, well, that's your opinion. Everyone's a target to somebody."

Lawrence Anderson scoffed in derision. "Does being a vampire mean you're also a mistress of the obvious, or do they not have cellular phones in your world because you can just communicate telepathically or some shit like that?" He idly fondled his long-barreled rifle as he talked.

Lawrence Anderson got a large grin on his face, making little effort to hide his excited joy. "Heh. Seems like you're willing to stoop to answering a mortal's trenchant comments after all. The reason I mentioned telepathy is that I happen to know a couple of things about the potential of the mind." He trailed off, clearly wanting this woman to ask him for more information.

Lawrence Anderson still had that grin on his face. "I was referring more to what one can do with the powers of one's mind. For example, it's a rather unusual thing for a mortal such as myself to be able to read the minds of others with such clarity. It's not something that comes easily, I'll leave it at that." Images flooded through that mental connection the two had of excruciating pain, brutal training and harsh taskmasters.

Lawrence Anderson shook his head. "Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should, miss." There was a definite accent to the man's voice--a soft and easy drawl on his vowels, not enough to impede comprehension but still noticeable. "I could pick his brain for that information, but it's far easier to just ask him." He turned to the cloaked individual. "Hey, my new acquaintance over here wishes to know your name."

Lawrence Anderson shrugged. "If I had to guess, I'd say it's because you've been watching her for quite a while in a manner that signifies no small amount of interest. It's almost to the point of being creepy, if you ask me." Pelagia...such an interesting name. That cloak would make it difficult to get off an accurate shot if he had to make one. "You got something to say to the lady, out with it. It's not polite to stare."

Lawrence Anderson cocked an eyebrow on his snowy countenance. "Merriment? That's something this place has been lacking. Whatcha got in mind, hoof-boy?" He looked weird, but he seemed to mean well enough for the time being. Why not give him a chance to get the party started?

Lawrence Anderson had to admit, it was a pretty impressive feat of animal handling to get a bear to tolerate this sort of treatment, and he told the goat-man as much...or he would if he could make himself heard over the pan-pipes. He then decided that the nubile young woman was a better conversation partner. "Okay, so the entertainment is here...when's the drink gonna flow? I need to get that bear out of my head."

Lawrence Anderson nodded. "Yeah. You, kid, with the exploding things. I figure they'll be just the thing for getting myself a drink at this here party. Instead he's tossing knives everywhere."

Lawrence Anderson eventually had had enough. "You know what, forget it," he said to the kid as he pushed away from the bar and made his way to the young woman. "You know, I've never seen anyone get that freaky that close to a wild animal. That, and hoof-man refuses to even pay attention to me. I say we go somewhere a bit quieter, huh?"

Lawrence Anderson was extraordinarily pissed off by this point. First the drink was flowing, but it didn't flow his way. Then he hit on a woman, only to be completely ignored. Some party this was if he wasn't having any of the fun. "Hey, how'd you all like to see some trick shooting?"
