Otto Staub was too focused on digging his elbow into her shoulder, attempting to cause her pain. He loved the expression on female faces when they were in pain. Loved it. It was his favorite thing. Ever. He had been staring down into her face, an intent smirk on his lips as he dug the elbow in as hard as he could, searching for that look. The grunt was nice and his smirk grew. But he was so focused on this that he didn’t notice her hands rising to his ears, and when they made contact, he grimaced in pain, surprise and discomfort. It had been loud, horribly loud, and then his ears started ringing. Remaining on top of her, he curled his own hands into fists. “You fucking bitch,” he seethed through clenched teeth, and began swinging both fists toward her face.

Otto Staub smiled as some of his punches connected. He was determined to make this woman hurt. Determined. He was angered now, and being angry, he had only one thought – inflicting pain. He wanted her to scream. And then suddenly his fist hit the floor hard and he cried out in surprise as her arm curled around his. Oh no. No no no. She would pay for that. “Hold still, woman! Or tap out.” He shifted his weight on top of her to balance firmly on her, settling his weight down on top of her, pinning her down firmly. “You will not win this fight.”

Otto Staub strolled into the bar, a cocky grin on his face. Glancing around, he didn’t see the woman he was looking for. Of course not. She was probably off with her teen lover with the woman’s hair. Or off with that…creature…she thought of as a son. She’d changed since she came here, and of that, Otto was not accepting. So she wanted to break their engagement. Not if he could help it. It was true he had no love for the woman, and that he planned to have her killed once the ink had dried on the marriage certificate and the insurance policies were in place. If the blasted assassin Sergei would do his job, she’d have signed the papers already. That was the last time he hired out of the family. Independent contractors were not reliable.

Moving over to the counter, Otto settled onto a bar stool, his five body guards positioning themselves around him as he searched for some fine piece of ass to scope out. Slim pickin’s today. Pity. Leaning back, he lit a Cuban and watched the fight disinterestedly.

Otto Staub rolled his eyes at Sigmund’s comments, ignoring him. The bodyguards eyed Sigmund with amusement, but went back to talking amongst themselves, their hands on the butts of their guns. Otto wasn’t here for a fight unless it involved a woman and he was sure to get some at the end. Turning his head, he looked at Sigmund, pursing his lips in thought. This kid wasn’t a woman, so Otto was about as interested as he would be if someone set a plate of dog food in front of him.

Otto Staub The body guards would move in between Sigmund and Otto, thwarting his grab for Otto’s hat. “Bad idea, boy,” one of the guards muttered, his voice deep and gravelly. Otto’s eyes moved over to Absinthe and he smirked slightly, taking in her figure before they shifted to Lyra and he repeated the process. It was obvious that Otto was far more concerned with scoping out the female form than with the kid who tried to steal his hat.

Otto Staub winked at Lyra, a smirk on his lips before he disinterestedly turned his eyes to the glowing hands. “Gunter, go ahead,” he said quietly before turning his attention to Absinthe and leaning forward with the same cocky smirk. “My dear, were you not just speaking of there needing to be violence in this place to quell your boredom? A lovely creature such as yourself should never be unentertained. I, however, do not wish for violence.”

Despite Otto’s words, at his command, Gunter and the other guards would raise their guns to Sigmund. “You’ve been warned, boy.” At that moment, three of the guards would fire their pistols, the other two holding off. One aimed straight for the glowing hand, one aimed for a kneecap and one aimed for a shoulder.

Otto Staub raised an eyebrow to Absinthe, leaning back and extinguishing his cigar. “I could carry out a conversation with only gestures that would leave you breathless, however being a stranger, I’m not certain you’d approve of the amount of physical contact that would require between the two of us.” His eyes slid over her legs for a long moment before he glanced out of the corner of his eye to his guards and the kid with the glowing fingers.

Otto had learned early-on that this place was not like New York. Sure, it was dangerous, but Otto was used to that. There were things here that were beyond his comprehension, so, being the brilliant second-in-command of the largest crime family in the Bronx, Otto knew never to take chances. He’d immediately located an underground seller of shields and magic nullifiers. With a tilted head, he watched as the wave of magic moved over his guards – all but one anyway. One, Hans, was thrown back into the wall. “Idiot forgot to set his,” he muttered to himself, completely unconcerned with Hans’ well being. Kill him, for all Otto cared. It was his fault he was hit in the first place. The others merely stood through the blast, their hair ruffling slightly. As Sigmund moved toward Otto, Gunter held his hand out, pistol aimed at the kid’s head. “Again, kid, bad idea.” The other three aimed their guns at Sigmund’s head as well, waiting for Otto’s instruction.

Turning to Absinthe, Otto gestured to the kid. “What do you think, Doll? Should they be merciful?”

Otto Staub smirked a bit more at Absinthe’s responses. “Lovely,” he said quietly. “You truly are a lovely creature.” Without turning to see what was happening with the guards, he shifted in his seat slightly, turning toward her. “In that case, I’d rather fancy holding a gestural conversation with you.” His eyes once again slid up her legs, pausing occasionally as they made their way up her body to her face.

Behind him, Gunter had indeed had his gun knocked away, taking a swift kick to the tender spot most males guarded with their lives. Gunter, however, had no reaction to the kick. Instead, he smiled. All the guards smiled, knowing something Sigmund obviously did not know. As the kid shot upwards, Gunter merely watched him, stepping away from his grasp easily, his hand moving slowly to his other gun.

Otto’s eyebrow raised as he watched Absinthe. “No mercy, eh?” His hand moved to his own gun, hidden under his jacket. “God, Doll, where ya been all my life?” Turning, he aimed his gun at Sigmund’s chest and fired, followed immediately by four more shots fired by the guards.

Otto Staub had to admit: he was spending much more attention on Absinthe and her…legs… than he was on the fight. Still, Otto was an excellent marksman, with or without his attention. Hearing her name, he chuckled. “Well, Miss Sinthe, it is a pleasure to meet you. I would kiss your hand, but…” He gestured with the gun to Sigmund. “…bit occupied. I’m Otto Staub, second-in-command to the largest crime family in New York.” Okay, that was a bit of a stretch, but Otto wasn’t big on facts. He was big on impressing women. “As soon as the old man kicks it, I’ll be the boss.” Cocky, arrogant, pervy. Yep. That was Otto.

As the lightning bolt flew for his crotch, Otto didn’t have time to react. He was concerned, sure. Anything flying at a man’s jewels was enough to sound the warning bells. But the lightning would be absorbed harmlessly by the magic nullifying shield, his body shimmering for a moment at impact. There was a charred spot on his suit pants, a mildly uncomfortable warm spot on his flesh, but that was it. Turning to look at the kid, Otto smirked. “A word of advice, little man. Little leaguers should not play with the Yankees.” He didn’t care that the Yankees had a terrible record. It was the principle. “Next time think before you act.”

Otto Staub tucked his gun away, the guards following suit, but while he removed his hand from the butt of his gun, theirs remained. It was their job to be wary. “Gunter,” he called over his shoulder. “Go check on Hans. Take care of him.” He gestured to the crumpled mass of flesh that was soon to be an ex-bodyguard. Gunter made his way over to Hans, checked to see if he was breathing and sighed. Grabbing the collar of the man’s jacket, he pulled the limp body outside. Seconds later, a single shot was heard before Gunter returned to the bar, tucking his gun away. He nodded to Otto and resumed his position around his boss.

“Exciting?” he asked Absinthe. Shrugging, he smirked. Yes, this was how he liked them. Impressed. “It has its moments. Burlesque show though? Now that seems exciting. I would have loved to have seen that.” His eyes moved over her body again. “I can only imagine.” And imagine he did, his smirk broadening as his eyes flirted over her curves.

Otto Staub wasn’t about to apologize for being called out about ‘doing that pervy thing.’ Rather he grinned. “I am, aren’t I? I have an active imagination, and it is running wild right about now.” He shrugged before rolling his shoulders in a stretch. “I rather enjoy looking at things that are finely formed.” Reluctantly moving his eyes back to hers, he tilted his head. “Yes, causing violence is extremely pleasant,” he agreed, though he wasn’t exactly fond of being directly involved in the actual violence unless he had the clear upper hand. That’s what guards were for. Expendable. Meat. “Tell me, Doll, when you chose a favorite, how did you let him know?” He was curious about this. The methods of others intrigued him.

Otto Staub chuckled, watching her mouth as she spoke. He was intrigued by the way it moved as she formed words. “Lovely,” he muttered under his breath. “You should pal around with me more often, Doll. I see stuff on a daily basis that makes your typical bar fight look like a gumball.” He leaned back, crossing his arms over his chest as he watched her. “And, as much as I’d be curious to know in what interesting and twisted directions your imagination can take you, I must admit that I’d rather find out through action.”

Otto Staub would never admit that he was falling for her body language tricks. After all, Otto was in charge at all times. He knew exactly what was going on. Still, as his eyes moved over her body again he grinned. He wanted her for sure. Responding to her body language with his own, he also leaned just a slight bit closer to her. “I believe an arrangement could be made. I might even have an idea for you to get indirectly involved.” It hadn’t been his plan from the beginning, but as she spoke of being a bartender, something clicked inside him. “It would cause a lot of violence, a lot of misery, just for some of those half-wits you have the misfortune of serving daily. I might have an idea on how to make things interesting for you.” He pulled back slightly, appeared to think about this for a moment before shaking his head. “No, I don’t suppose you’d be interested. You don’t seem the particularly malicious sort.”

Otto Staub chuckled at this, raising an eyebrow at her. Leaning back, he grinned, trying to keep it less conniving than he felt. “I’m not sure,” he said slowly, taking a look at her. “You certainly are a pretty face, but is there a killer lurking behind those beautiful eyes?” Behind him, his guards shifted nervously, closing the distance between themselves so Absinthe and Otto were more closed into the protective bubble. “Would you be willing to kill?” Immediately, he shook his head. “I don’t see that you would be the type. You seem eager, but something tells me, if it were down to it, you’d back out.”

Otto Staub inwardly smirked. He had her right where he wanted her, whether she knew it or not. Still, as he looked at her, his expression was clearly uncertain until he sighed. “Alright. Indirect involvement. Are you familiar with an alcoholic bi—“ he stopped the word before correcting himself. “…woman by the name of Ilse Klein? Usually pals around with some teenage kid with girl hair? Isuzu or something like that?”

Otto Staub held his grin as he reached into the inner pocket of his jacket, extracting two small plastic baggies. Each contained a measurement of white powder. “Slip one to each of them,” he instructed, holding them out for her to take. “It won’t kill them. At least, I don’t think it will. The boy probably has some strange immunity to its effects, even though I’m being discreet in what those effects should be. The girl, however…” He frowned and looked at the powder before reaching into the pocket once more and extracting a second baggie. “Actually, on second thought, give her two. Little thing is addicted to pain killers. No doubt she’s built up a tolerance to drugs. That’s all I ask. One dose in his drink, two doses in hers, and then call this number.” He withdrew a business card. “You want to see a good fight? You’ll get one that way.”

Otto Staub laughed. “Yes, it’s a drug,” he admitted. “But it’s not what you think. That’s a stimulant. Much like cocaine. They’re going to feel like they can take on the world… which is exactly what I’m hoping they’ll try to do.” He grinned and winked at her. “I wouldn’t let you down now, would I? What kind of a monster would I be to drug people into apathy?” He laughed, and the guards behind him held their expressions tight, doing their best not to react to this. That was exactly what Otto would do. Coward.

Otto Staub shuddered at this, although whether in revulsion or ecstasy was unclear. Judging strictly by the half smirk on Otto’s lips, it appeared to be the latter. He looked at Absinthe with an absolute grin on his face. “Doll, I’m tellin’ ya… you’re making me want to take you back home. To New York. A girl like you…” Otto closed his eyes and let out a small noise, shaking his head. “You and me… we could go far. While someone drugged like that on muscle relaxers is easy to kill, it’s also amazingly fun to watch someone hopped up on stimulants. Get them excited enough, their hearts explode. Almost audibly. Kind of a wet squishy sound like stepping on a grape. And their eyes bleed.”

Otto Staub chuckled, leaning back in the seat. “Well, Doll, play your cards right and the woman I’m supposed to marry will have her poor little heart explode. Then what would I do? Who would I share the Family with?” He winked at her. “Just throwing that out there.” He looked at the powder he’d given her, suddenly wondering if it would be enough. Too much, and their hearts would stop instantly. Not as much fun to watch. Not enough, and it wouldn’t be fun to watch either. “Now that you know what to expect, perhaps you’ll be in a position to do just that. I know Ilse like women, so putting your hand on her chest shouldn’t be a problem. The boy, however. I’m worried it won’t take with him as he’s not exactly human.”

Otto Staub tipped his head back and laughed. “If you want kids, I’m sure we could figure out a way to provide you with them,” he smirked, his eyes once again moving over her body. “Lots of them.” He laughed again, boldly moving a hand to her knee. “As many as you want, possibly more.” Ilse had never wanted children and froze every time he attempted to discuss this particular subject with her. She actually found the idea of Otto touching her as disgusting… but he’d showed her, hadn’t he? And he would continue to show her how big of a mistake it was to insult Otto Staub like that. His eyes narrowed slightly as he thought of her, but quickly shoved the thoughts aside and smiled at Absinthe. “Of course, that is if your consideration leads you to the right decision. However, you wouldn’t buy a car without test driving it first, correct?” He spread his arms wide, grinning at her. “May I interest you in a test drive?”
