Rescha instantly despised and hated the Asian. He had pulled a knife on Kamala and it was the worst thing he could have done. There was no forgiveness to be found, ever, even if nothing had happened. Rescha glared at him for the longest time and hardly heard Treia’s taunts or Kamala’s outrage.

Bad things were going to happen to that man. She didn’t know what but Rescha would do something. Maybe she would clear wrap the toilet seats

Rescha slipped from the bunk and then slid her arm into Kamala’s in an attempt to tug him somewhere else.

“We’ll get you a new book. I don’t want to be here right now,” Rescha threw a pointed look at the Asian before looking back to Kamala, “Can we go eat. I’m starving.”

“And no, you can’t come, Treia.” Rescha frowned at Treia.

Rescha must have been in the shower for at least an hour. Even after spending a great deal working on her hygiene after the desert, she still felt gross, as if sand was still clinging in places that it did not belong. However, not all of that time had been spent in the actual shower. Rescha, for a good solid fifteen minutes, had been staring at herself in the mirror after dressing.

The girl thought long and hard on something while worrying her bottom lip with her teeth. A particular memory came to mind and she frowned for a moment before a smile broke out along her face.

A bang on the door made Rescha scream and gather up her things. A sigh escaped her lips before the girl left the bathroom for the others to finally be able to use. Her feet carried her across the barrack. Rescha dumped her hygiene bag onto her bunk and then automatically headed for Kamala’s.

 only that he wasn’t there.

Rescha began to search for him.

Recently a development had start taking over Rescha and the girl began to notice small changes. It was like going through puberty all over again but this time was far different. Sights, Sounds, and all the other senses were becoming more defined. It was not a hard thing for Rescha to hear the door closing in the barracks.

It immediately drew her attention and Rescha opened the door to peek through. A silhouette was walking away in the distance. Rescha noticed the height first and knew that it was Kamala. After all, they were the two shortest people on the team.

“K—” Rescha started to call out but an idea came over the girl. She was going to sneak up on Kamala and surprise him. It would be so much fun! With a small giggle to herself, Rescha crouched down slightly and began to follow after Kamala, minding where her feet stepped.

“Kamaaalaaa,” came Rescha’s voice as she continued running out to him. If there was one thing she hated most in the world, it was the smell of smoke. Rescha did not want to smell it on Kamala. Not at all. Thomas would fill her thoughts and he was a man Rescha did not want to relive while in the company of someone she cared for.

He had to be stopped and she was more than close enough to do it.

Rescha’s eyes went wide when she realized that she was far too close to stop after realizing that she needed to stop. And, of course, as clumsy as the girl was, the toe of Rescha’s boot caught a dip in the earth to send her flying toward him even more with arms flailing and panic on her face.

If Kamala did not dodge or lunge out of the way, the girl was going to plain collide into the young man. Rescha gasped.

There came the small sound of ‘oof’ as Rescha barreled into Kamala and went sprawling onto the ground. There was a small whimper as her hand scraped against an exposed root of a tree but it was nothing compared to almost breaking an ankle. It took several seconds longer for Rescha to pick herself up from the ground while Kamala scolded her.

He was always so angry or disappointed in something she did, but Kamala liked her. Boys were so confusing. But Rescha wasn’t overtly concerned with that fact at that very moment. “Kamala,” the girl said while rushing over to him and grabbing the man’s face in her hands.

“It is bad to smoke. You should not smoke. Please, don’t ever smoke again,” Rescha pleaded to him before grabbing his shirt in her tiny fists and hiding her face in his shoulder.

“Promise me.”

Rescha’s brown eyes followed the pack of cigarettes and a relieved smile came to her face. The girl instantly let Kamala loose and she went to the pack. A leather boot came crashing down on the flimsy cardboard, crushing all the smokes beneath Rescha’s foot.

A glance was given over Kamala to gauge his reaction but all Rescha could notice was how he was acting strange. If there was anyone that knew his mannerisms, it was Rescha, in an almost-stalkerish-way. Young love. It was obsessive. Nothing far too out of the ordinary, just less clingy.

“Are you hiding something from me, Kamala,” Rescha asked point blank with an arched brow. She shuffled up close to him again and tilted her head, awaiting his answer.

“
you know you can tell me anything,” she assured.

A finger was pointed at Kamala’s face and brown eyes narrowed at him accusingly. There were microexpressions along his face that Rescha could see unlike most—well, everyone else, actually. She wasn’t certain, but Rescha knew that he was lying.

“Kamala. Stop lying to me. You’re such a bad liar,” Rescha said before letting out a frustrated sigh. Why did he always have to be so difficult. Couldn’t he trust her, at all? Just for once?

“And of course you can tell me everything and anything. We’re supposed to share things like that with each other. I mean
you’re my best friend, Kamala. C’mon!”

“Show me yours and I will show you mine,” Rescha said in reference to something she had learned on accident that morning.

“Bad time? Why would this be a bad time,” Rescha asked, entirely oblivious to what Treia had been hinting towards after the boy overheard her conversation with Kamala. She opened her mouth to explain further but Kamala had withdrawn again and Rescha was intent on expanding their relationship which wasn’t much of one.

“No, you weren’t,” Rescha said while pointing at Kamala’s rifle and adding, “You don’t even have a magazine in your rifle. How can you shoot without rounds?”

“Kamala,” she pressed while walking up to him once more and wrapping her fingers around his arm. Rescha looked up at him with her warm and kind eyes. A smile was playing at the edges of her mouth.

“Tell me or I will do something to make Treia tease you even more.” Seems Rescha had learned how to blackmail people or manipulate them in the least. It wasn’t something she was accustomed to doing but the girl was highly curious as to why he was acting strange.

“You said that you came back for me
” Rescha trailed off at the end and remembered that Treia was there too. She didn’t want to offend.

“
and for Treia. To help protect us, right?” It was a simple enough question. Kamala had attempted to pull his arm free but Rescha only re-grasped him. A hopeful expression laid on her face.

“But what does that have anything to do with what’s going on now?”

Rescha rolled her eyes and gave Treia a pointed look that said ‘stop being mean to Kamala’ and then the expression shifted to ‘or else’. Not like the girl could do much harm but Rescha knew a few pranks. It would be awful funny to see him struggling to get out of his bunk when he was clear-wrapped to it.

A smile came back onto her face—some how the Rescha was far too happy that day—and she looked back at Kamala. “It’s late. I’m going to go and get some sleep. Treia,” Rescha said before looking back at him, “make sure that Kamala never ever smokes. I don’t want him smelling like Thomas and his friends.”

Her jaw set and an odd facial expression fell over Rescha. Her eyes snapped back into the present and she waved at the Asian. “Play nice with them. They may be mean, but they’re good guys.” Rescha began walking away, but back tracked after a few steps. She walked right up to Kamala and gave him a kiss on his cheek, and then started back to for the bunker again.

The sun was beginning its journey down toward the horizon in the late afternoon hours of the day. Rescha had been gone since before it had risen, training for more missions. The girl had not gone on one since the first but Rescha was not about to let herself become useless during one ever again.

She sauntered into the barracks with a towel hanging over her shoulders. A black tank top showed the recent development of new muscle on Rescha’s limbs while cotton shorts did the same for her legs. The girl was slowly transforming from the limp noodle she had arrived as into a true military person.

“Hey Kamala,” Rescha said standing beside his bunk and smiling at him. The edge of the towel was used to wipe some of the sweat from her brow before she asked, “How has your day been? Have you just been sitting here reading?”

Rescha watched Kamala for a moment while her head tilted to the side. It almost seemed as if she were gauging what exactly to say to him to not set the man off. Well, not upsetting Kamala and allowing his stubbornness to settle in was as difficult as pushing a whale down a water slide. Might as well just be frank.

“I actually wanted to talk to you,” Rescha said while reaching up to fix her ponytail. “
you know, about yesterday. You were going to tell me something but then Treia and then the Asian. It must be important.”

Rescha sat down next to Kamala and leaned on his shoulder, peeking at his book before looking up at him.

“Do you want to talk about it?”

“Well then, alright,” Rescha said before putting her feet back onto the floor. She planted her hands down on her hips while a curious smile lifted the edges of her mouth.

“You know, Kamala, sometimes you’re hard to figure out but I think that just may be a boy thing,” Rescha said with a small giggle. Recently she seemed to be in far too good of a mood and there was visible reason for it. Something must have changed.

“Where do you want to go to talk if you don’t want to talk here,” she asked before reaching over and tugging on Kamala’s arms to get him motivated to even move. If he resisted, Rescha was just going to pull on him even more until he finally gave in.

Resistance was futile.

Rescha rolled her eyes at the effort it took to even get Kamala out of his bunk. She was happy enough though when he finally got around to putting his boots on to lead the way.

Following him, her eyes wandered over Kamala for a moment and when she realized, Rescha blushed a terrible pink. It was a good thing that he wouldn’t notice, unless he snuck a glance over his shoulder. She hastily fixed her gaze elsewhere which caused Rescha to slam into the door. There was a long bang and a small ‘oof’ as she did so before stumbling a few steps backward.

Rescha placed her hand against her cheek and sighed. That’s what she got for staring. She opened the otherside of the double-doors and walked out, rubbing her soon-to-be red cheek, and kept following Kamala.

A strange look came over Rescha’s features and she plopped down onto a stump after Kamala had asked the question. There was more than a few reasons why the girl wanted to go to Wing City other than seeing the fantastical people there. But, Rescha wasn’t about to tell Kamala the real reason. Not right then, at least.

“What does that have to do with anything, Kamala,” she asked after clearing her throat and attempting to blow off her previous expression. “I mean, sure, there’s some crazy things in the city so I hear but I don’t understand.”

“Did something happen while you were gone? Did you get into some kind of trouble, Kamala?”

A sigh came from Rescha as Kamala confirmed that he had not gotten into trouble. And then she listened to him while watching his non-verbals. Rescha noted how difficult this subject was for Kamala and her expression of concern came back mingled with an expression of attempt to understand.

Rescha crossed one leg over the other and bobbed her foot while leaning forward to rest her chin in her hand. He had been comparing himself to her making the girl wonder if Kamala had been doing the same thing recently.

“So
you’re saying that you’re not normal?” It was a poor question and not worded the way that Rescha wanted without seeming offensive, but she wasn’t the best at talking with others.

“ I mean, like, not normal like me, not normal
 kind of way
”

Sitting up to set her posture aright again, Rescha fumbled through her short’s pocket to pull out her ear protection. She had no idea why Kamala had told her to close her ears. He didn’t have a weapon on him. He didn’t have anything on him.

“I already told you yesterday that I wasn’t going to say anything to anyone, Kamala. You should learn to at least trust me, you know. I care about you. Need to accept that eventually,” Rescha said in an untypical bout of confidence.

She placed her rubber ear buds into her ears and just stared at Kamala with her eyebrows raised. It was almost a reprimanding look Rescha held on her face, as if Kamala should have known better.
