Rescha’s expression fell as Kamala answered honestly and she let out a defeated sigh. He thought she was strange and had even said it. The girl’s shoulders slumped forward and she walked past him without saying anything.

Her rifle was placed on the wood table before she sat down on the attached bench. Rescha propped up an elbow on her knee, leaned forward, and then rested her chin in her hand.

It wasn’t fair. Nothing was fair. Kamala would say that he liked her and then turn around to say that she was strange. It mixed emotions in Rescha and it was not pleasant for her. Not one bit.

Rescha groaned and then placed her palms over her eyes while grabbing at the roots of her bangs. Why did boys have to be so difficult?

It was better that Kamala had said that she was a good type of strange but the fact still remained that he thought Rescha was strange—not normal. Untypical of her, the girl rolled her eyes after dropping her hands.

“Boys are so stupid,” Rescha said in a mutter that was not as quiet as it could have been. Her eyes glared at a tuft of burnt grass before she murmured a few more words beneath her breath. Kamala may have thought that she was strange but sometimes Rescha thought that he was annoying.

Rescha’s temper rose as she brooded on what he had said. She stood up from the table and then marched straight over to Kamala. Her hands shot out and the girl shoved him.

“I’m not strange! I can’t help it,” she yelled out as she pushed him. Poor Rescha was not helping her counter-argument.

Rescha threw up her hands into the air before planting them down on her hips. She huffed and then started to rant at Kamala.

“What do you mean sensitive? I’m not being sensitive”—she pointed a finger at him and poked him in the chest—“you’re just being mean and saying horrible things again. Why can’t you just say nice things to the girl you like, Kamala. I thought that was what you were supposed to do as a guy, not say things that can hurt people!”

In her emotional state—which seemed to be more often than not lately—Rescha failed to realize that she had asked Kamala the question in the first place that made him answer honestly.

Rescha’s cheeks grew red from embarrassment and anger. “I’m not being a crybaby! Do you see me crying? No. So just … argh! Shut up. Shut up. Shut up. Shut up,” Rescha said, stamping her foot down on the ground

All then all of the sudden her anger fizzled out and Rescha sighed. Her fist clenched tightly and then she shoved it into her pocket. The last thing the girl wanted to do is make a repeat scene of him leaving her. Rescha did not think that Kamala would be too forgiving if she punched him like she had Treia.

“I— … whatever,” Rescha said before she kicked a rock lying on the ground. Freakishly enough that rock had gone flying through the air with enough velocity and had hit the most precise point on the tent. It collided with a button and the canvas tent collapsed into a heap of harsh fabric and aluminum rods … right on top of Treia inside.

Rescha looked at Kamala a tad horrified.

“Uhh ... oops."

Rescha made her way toward the fallen tent after Kamala. She leaned sideways and walked awkwardly as the girl fumbled in her pocket for something useful. Dull pain lashed through her bad ankle from the weight shift but she dealt with it. There was something far more important going on than her sore ankle acting up.

“Kamala … cut him out,” she called out before pulling out a pocket knife. Rescha was going to throw it but then she thought better of it. She could not trust herself with throwing or hitting anything near anyone. The girl was just full of bad luck lately.

… like making a tent fall down on Treia.

Rescha came to Kamala’s side and handed him the knife.

Meanwhile, Rescha was flipping shit. The poor girl was grabbing at her hair tightly with a look of utter doom on her pretty face. Treia was under all that heavy canvas and Kamala was doing his best to help him. All she could do was stand there and think that it was all her fault—it had been, too, but it was an accident.

“I am so sorry! I didn’t mean to make it fall, really. I ONLY KICKED A ROCK. Why is this happening to me. Treia! Treia are you alright,” Rescha called out during her ‘mild’ session of panic.

Rescha had been left all alone after Kamala climbed into the fallen tent to save Treia. Her hands were wringing together in worry while her eyes darted around the surface of the canvas. She could see someone moving, knowing that it was most likely Kamala going towards Treia.

“Please be okay, please be okay, please be okay,” the girl chanted to herself before Rescha rose up a hand and began to bite on her finger nails. Usually a tent falling was not a problem as they tended to be small, but this tent had been large and made from dense canvas.

Rescha whimpered after her fingers began to throb with pain, but it was also the growing worry for Treia and Kamala. She had only kicked a rock and it had brought the entire tent down. What were the chances of hitting that precise spot?

It was an impossible occurrence and yet Rescha had made it happen.

Treia was not liked by Rescha very much since he had taken her back to camp instead of allowing the girl to follow Kamala into the city. However, she did think of him as a friend deep down and trusted Kamala’s word. A sigh of relief rushed from her lungs before Rescha ran over to the pair.

Her arms were thrown around both of them in a group hug, possibly knocking all three of their heads together. Funny how almost suffocating one of your team mates and friends made grudges die away.

Rescha was a strange girl.

“Ow,” Rescha groaned as her head met with Kamala’s when she initiated the embrace. She ignored the pain however and just hugged them both. It wasn’t long before Rescha released Treia and solely clung to Kamala. Friends they may have been again, but the girl definitely did not want Treia’s blood on her clothes.

“Treia, I—I,” she began but Kamala had been nudged into Rescha, cutting off her apology about his nose. Blush rose up on her cheeks, and she dared not to even look at Kamala. It was embarrassing to have her feelings for him just pointed out like that. Rescha let go of Kamala as if he were suddenly made of fire so quick she tore away from him.

Immediately the girl made for her rifle, grumbling beneath her breath at how boys ruined everything.

There was sand and dirt all over her as, sticking to the sweat on Rescha’s body. It was uncomfortable and the girl wanted nothing more than to head straight to the shower. However, that plan was postponed as soon as the young woman stepped forth into the barracks. Brown eyes went wide as dinner plates and Rescha dropped a bag that was in her hands.

Even with a weak ankle that was still healing, Rescha dashed across the room and leapt up her petite form. She was aiming to throw herself at the very large and intimidating man, but Rescha miscalculated. The poor girl ended up sprawling backwards on the floor with a small grunt.

Most times Rescha would have accepted defeat but it was Kamala getting ‘attacked’. She had no idea what was going on but it seemed like a bad situation. The girl hopped to her feet and started to tug on the huge man’s bulging arm.

“Get your hands off of my boyfriend,” Rescha yelled at him and it was so loud that everyone and their grandmother could hear it.

“That’s fine as long as you don’t hurt Kamala,” Rescha said while releasing her hands from the man’s overly large bicep. Her eyes widened for a moment in realization that he could have hurt her quite easily and it made the girl blush.

“I—I,” she stuttered out before pointing towards the shower room. Without finishing her sentence, Rescha just walked off.

Rescha was humming to herself while turning a page in a book that she had found in Kamala’s things. It was most interesting, really, and the young woman had not been able to put it down since she found it. She laid across Kamala’s bad on her tummy while her feet swung back and forth through the air. Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail and Rescha’s free hand twirled the strands together.

Her jaw moved rapidly while Rescha chewed on a piece of gum. Her brown eyes were round with excitement and surprise. The chapter was a good one. She blew a bubble and it grew and grew until Rescha could no longer see the words of the pages.

… and then the bubble popped and stuck to Kamala’s book.

Rescha opened her mouth to cry out in panic which made the gum fall entirely into the book.

“Oh no! He’s going to kill

Rescha was in so much trouble.

Rescha Graves slammed the book closed, sealing the pages together with her chewing gum, and then she tucked it beneath her belly. "N-No one," she said with a nervous laugh. "I have no idea what you're talking about."

“Treia,” Rescha screamed in surprise as his hand plunged between her torso and the mattress. She pulled the book out from her opposite side and awkwardly made to slap the boy across the face with it. Whether it hit or not, that was when Rescha noticed Kamala had entered the room, asking questions.

“Kamala!” She exclaimed in her offended tone before rising up on her knees and pointed at Treia. “He’s being a nasty pervert and trying to grab my boobs! Do something!” Of course Rescha expected Kamala to do something. That was his job.

That’s what boyfriends did.

Right?

Kamala was a horrible boyfriend.

Rescha rolled her eyes and secretly tucked the book into the back of her pants while everyone’s eyes were focused on the new guy. He seemed alright … until he opened his mouth. Rescha’s brow drew down together in confusion and the girl leaned over to Kamala to whisper out of the corner of her mouth.

“ … what did he just say? Was that English, or is he making up stuff,” Rescha asked her boyfriend-of-the-year, Kamala. Her eyes trailed over to Treia to see what he thought of the new guy but then she remembered what he had said.

“Hey!” she called out. “For your information, Kamala does not grope my boobs. So you can just shut up, meat face.” Meat face. Rescha could be so cruel.

Rescha looked at Kamala, then to Treia, and then to Mouse, only to return her gaze back to Kamala. He was holding his hand out and Rescha blinked as if confused. The book had been entirely forgotten so wrapped up she had become in the insults flying around the room.

“Kamala … you said we’re not supposed to hold hands in public. We’re not supposed to do anything in public. Did you change your mind,” Rescha said in a quiet voice. Mouse wouldn’t be able to hear due to distance unless his hearing was extraordinary, but Treia was definitely close enough.

Rescha gave a little shrug and held Kamala’s hand before a foolish smile spread across her pretty face. Maybe he wasn’t so bad after all.

It seemed that Rescha’s smile was doomed to die a horrible, gruesome, death. When Kamala had snatched his hand away from hers, the girl rolled her eyes, and said a few choice words silently to herself with lips moving. Rescha played with her ponytail for a moment, still listening and watching the ‘bonding’ occurring in the room.

Boys were very strange.

And then she remembered the book. Rescha took it out of her pants and hand it to Kamala. “Treia was reading it and stuck gum in the pages. He was trying to get it away from me so he could hide it. I saved it though, mho,” Rescha accused and had passed it off so easily as the truth.

Rescha grinned a wry grin at Treia, holding out the book for Kamala to take. And then she remembered something …

“Hey! Don’t threaten Kamala or bad things will happen to you! I will make sure of it. We’re just gonna all be friends because we’ll stay alive that way,” Rescha said to the Asian.
