The Path Well-Worn

The Path Well-Worn

0 INK

An Epic Fantasy tale has begun, the path is as yet blurry and unseen, but in-time it shall become well known to you. A companion amongst your grand adventures,a friend for those with soles far worn.

3,087 readers have visited The Path Well-Worn since duramon created it.

glmstr are listed as curators, giving them final say over any conflict & the ability to clean up mistakes.

Introduction

I reserve the right to at any time, give you the boot from the Role-play if you cause OOC issues and/or nit-pick. RP's are serious yes,but they exist to be enjoyed!.
(Small side-note,it maybe awhile before I or Glmstr accept your character at times, not because they aren't good but because the point in the story requires to have less then a certain number of characters.)

The General Idea of this RP

Hello to all readers!, Duramon here bringing you an epic-scale adventure of the generic fantasy kind!

I'm offering an RP with the kind of thing you'd expect from a Fantasy story but with my own twists, turns and plot-line. For lovers of all fantasy genres, of character advancement and adventures of the epic kind. You can expect Bandit Attacks, Dragons, Dungeons and all the fantastical stuff that we love about the Fantasy Genre placed in large and far-reaching plot-lines and adventures. Of course a big focus is character advancement, so side-plots, romances and character building are encouraged at all opportunities.

I expect atleast two paragraphs per post!,Pay attention to the general post size at the time and work from there, pay special attention to me and glmstr as we'll most likely be the ones shoving towards larger or smaller posts.

A "Unique" Mechanic

Equipment Advancement:

I figured,If I'm going for the Epic Genre with a Generic Flavour (Thats right,Flavour) I decided to implement some kind of trading/economy system found in most RPG's. In all basicness, Whenever the group of adventurers fight a foe the loot would then be decided by those who slew the fiend using some common sense and balancing. (One does not simply find Excalibur on a bandit..) Equipment, Items, Armaments and such could then be purchased as per usual in a Fantasy Game, all items are of course purchased at towns and such, it's up to you to use common sense and to pay fairly for items,if you want to double check something shoot me or someone else a PM to get a second opinion, otherwise as an Active RPer in this myself I'll be double-checking to make sure people aren't taking advantage. Of course scavenging is an obvious loot out come in most cases.

Remember to be creative with loot, Don't find "Scale mail and a sailors old ring" on a sea serpent, Skin the great beast to layer your current armour, create a shield, a new grip for your weapon!, Perhaps even use the giant poisoned tip of it's tail as a Great-sword! Allow the mage to spend time transferring the magic contained within its scales into your skin or weapon even! Use your imagination. I am prepared to GM this as effectively as possible, which of course includes going through dozens of PM's if required if you have any questions.

Crafting is allowed and encouraged if you have a logical way of doing so, or if you have the resources for what you intend. In this case Mages are if they have the aptitude for it, gifted with the ability to not just "Disenchant and Enchant" Items, but to infuse the soul, the mana of creatures into other members, themselves and gear. Of course this doesn't come without cost, it will require great reserves of mana dependent on the creature and of course there are side-effects. One cannot gain fire-absorbing scale skin and not be seen as a freak of nature by the populace. Not all Heroes are loved and you'll find most NPC's and townsfolk will by common sense, recoil at the sight of a group of scaley and minotaur horned beings with wings. Who by bodily design obviously were once "normal".

The Beginning of our tale

Now,to begin with, the character's shall be weak, A large part of this is character development after all. However, the starting plot would in all basicness the group or pair doing seemingly simple errands for a Mage in the original town, Each errand is of course, well paying for a small town and ridiculously more complex then is explained. "Help me find a rare herb in the woods and I'll pay you 30 copper" for example. Well, it turns out the Herb is protected by an ancient Treant and one or two dryads who you accidentally awaken from a thousand year slumber (Who knew huh?). As the player's become better and more experienced the mission's intensify and of course, it is up to the players to do other things with their characters as well. The RP is NOT just mission, mission, mission. Remember characters are mortal, they need down-time and conversations are generally a good idea, rather then just trying to go through the entire RP by doing nothing but fighting and talking during errands and the plot. The plot WILL advance beyond doing just this,This is the start of molding characters into true adventurers, at this point they're just slightly above average citizens with unique skills and/or adventurous spirits!

Of course the plot would advance from here until it grows into a full-blown epic. With the world in danger from various sources, towns requiring heroes and corrupt kings in the making, the story is there to be grown and The GM's (glmstr and I,duramon) have many fun twists, turns, and plotlines that will keep you interested and immersed in advancing your character!

Races and Such

All Races are welcome, whether they be old classics or of your own design. As long as they aren't over-powered or godly in design and can be seen as *average*. Characters can have nearly any profession/ex-profession that will help them along the way as long as,again they do not begin as a master or expert of said trade. I expect most of the starting characters (Say the first three) to be relatively young perhaps 26 at most, of course you characters joining later on can be stronger then just average and older as the challenges will be greater and require more experience,Just check the activity and have a look at how you should scale your character. I expect most if not all characters to start off with being relatively good in alignment (For the sake of ADVENTURE!), Later this may change of course.

Character Creation

Now by this point I assume you're all sick of my rabbiting on, and so I shall keep this last stepping stone short.
What I expect from the average character is this.

Name:
Age:
Race:
Profession/Ex-Profession:
Personality:
History:
Equipment (To be updated along the adventure):
Family/Relationships (For plot):
Description (Not just a picture here please,Describe them aswell):

It may seem like a lot but tis truly not considering a main focus of this is character development and advancement.
For those looking for a larger, more complex and in-depth character skeleton. Look in the OOC Topic The Path Well-Worn and I can gift you with a brilliant one made by my friend Earthwanderer08.

Toggle Rules

Rule 1: No overpowered characters or power-gaming! It ruins the fun!
Rule 2: No Meta-gaming, This is using knowledge your character wouldn't know as if they did,or finding some weak way to make them know.
Rule 3: Don't be a stick in the mud!, If you help make an event or plot-line don't try and force it your way, heck it's my RP and I won't be doing that.

Needless to say, Michael was very much surprised. Surrounded as if by magic, the group of brigands popped up suddenly and without warning. A flicker of self-disappointment came and went for the merchant, but the time for such frivolous emotion was not at hand.

”Unless these folks are going to disagree with you, Thoroark, I do believe this confirms my suspicions of sabotage. I should have took bets while I had the chance.” Looking around slowly Michael counted about forty men, armed and dangerous. But whether or not their courage could hold was another story. That was not something Michael would usually leave up to chance.

”Gentlemen, if I may confer with my group for a moment I may be able to find a amicable solution to your demands.” Bringing his hands up above his shoulders to show he wasn't holding anything, Michael slightly leaned towards Thoroark and tried to keep a smile on his face.

”I could,” he spoke in a hushed tone,”try to convince them to take just me instead and let the rest of you go on with your mission. Depending on how much they ask, you may be able to pay using what's in the cart I came in on. Let's face it, I've spent most of my usefulness on that Treant and I don't believe I've got the constitution for a mountain climb. Plus you don't seem the type to just let me rot in shackles so I feel somewhat safe in that. Should I try or what?”

He frowned as his tent was kicked and started pulling his gear back on, buckling his pauldron back into place as he heard the voices. Bandits this far up the mountain? Either they had followed the merchant's wagon, or someone had hired them to attack the group specifically. For some reason, he suspected the later. Slowly he lifted the very bottom of the back flap to his tent. Just from where he was, he could see three bandits spread out to surround the group. Well, they were in for quite a rude awakening. They didn't seem to be paying attention to the tent, perhaps not knowing he'd been inside. This was probably going to be his only shot!

He silently drew his sword and unlaced the back flap of his tent... Then he shot out from the tent like an arrow loosed from bow, covering the distance in less than a second. The first bandit died bloody, Allan's sword slicing him open from waist to shoulder, blood flying into the air and freezing as it hit the cold ground. He ran to the next one, but this bandit had time to raise his weapon, though his eyes were wide with shock. Allan charged at the man, but stepped off to the side as the bandit swung his weapon, then leapt through the air whilst slicing, neatly cutting the man's jugular. He landed in the snow and leapt again to the next man, flying nearly ten feet into the air! He kicked his heavily armored feet behind him, the force of that sending him into a sort of midair somersault with a sword attached to it. The bandit blocked, but the force of the blow broke the man's weapon and both of his wrists. Allan's sword kept going, cutting deeply into the man's collar bone and into the ribcage. Allan pulled his weapon out of the lifeless corpse and scanned the immediate area. Lots more bandits. Allan growled with rage and charged at the next bandit, sword at the ready. Allan disliked the idea of killing others, but by no means would he hesitate to send them all to their graves!

Thoroark grimaced as Allan leaped from the tent, killing the bandit's in a messy manner without half a thought. The giant growled and rushed forward towards his ally reaching his arm out and grabbing the young smith by his throat while he charged. Stopping the fool before he could hurt their chances anymore then he already had with his behavior. The giant instantly sheathed his sword upon his back and flung the boy behind him, utter disregard to where or how he landed. Looking directly at the bandit leader, his fist clenched tightly in anger, how could he have not seen this? He turned back to look at Michael and shook his head once before rolling his shoulders and straightening up.

"We have no chance against so many, They made it up to us and they don't look tired or injured at all, They either came from below or live in the peaks area...They are way out of our league....at least right now. This, is what is called a perfect trap on the peak....There ain't just monsters up here and I should have thought that through before bringing you ALL up here." He said, loud and clear before a stabbing pain filled his head, The giant pawed at his eye for a moment, his arm's tensing up as he fell to his knees. The pain spreading through him so quickly, so rapidly....It felt like an eel was tearing it's way through his body, writhing through his soul and his form couldn't take it. The giant thumped his fist into the ground and then just...fell. Collapsed and unconscious on the ground, a sickly black glow hidden and barely showing from under his eye.

β€œWatch where you walk” the man shouted at the hooded figure who simply bowed in a sign of forgiveness as they parted ways Silent simply gauged the weight of the coin purse he had stolen, these people really had a lot to learn regarding the world it gave him an itch of regret to have to prey on such unsuspecting and honest folk, but he was not going to place his fate at the hands of the mercy of others, it was his way or no other… even saying that was wrong, the people here had offered their help on repeated occasions.

And judging by recent development it was the rule rather than the exception, just the other day that green haired lad somehow found the way to bleed out in the middle of the way and the red haired candle maker jumped to his aid, it was a shame really.

A shame that she was not an essential part to his profit equation that was

He had expected a larger chain of production, maybe a workshop were several mages could be found but there was no way she could come up with the quantity of candles that were needed to fill the cathedral on the main square. But that didn't meant her novelty goods could not further the goals of the Romandan.

He had been crossing paths with the woman, posing as a helpless beggar trying to meager his way in life, he made a point not to stay on one spot for too long adding to the suspicion that he was an aimless wanderer… but he was learning her routine he had a clear map of her actions

When she went out of the house

When she met with some fellow mages

When she checked with the visitors asking for some friend of hers

When she returned home

The only thing left was getting a clue on the location of the stock of the candles… and maybe get a glimpse of her as god brought her to this world, probably she would look different, mages had a tradition of altering their appearance and females already enriched theirs with or without the gifts of the supernatural.

Her behavior perplexed him, since Romanda he had witnessed how magic paved the road of abuse and he had a good tale to tell on the subject, yet either she was a pitiful practitioner or one of those rarer-than-roost-teeth kind magician that would not exploit her powers to make her life better as the enjoyment of those around them diminished

In any case… her time is nearly up.

If only he could get a clue regarding her combat abilities without drawing much attention or making his thievish intentions so clear

Tenen hadn't all his mind for the moment; he felt watched, spied on... He had the horrible feeling that someone was hiding from him and is checking all of his movements. He didn't know why, but he just had that unpleasant feeling. He looked around like someone who had lost his mind, breathing heavily, calming himself down. He looked around once more, hearing footsteps in his direction. He quickly climbed up a tree, looking out for the one who is walking the same forest as him.

Tion walked forward breathing in the air of the forest wondering what leaving the village would do to him. Would it make him a whole new person? Tion sighed and kept walking and walking not knowing whats to come and somehow he didn't want to know. The best fun in a adventure if not knowing what to expect. As he thought that he walked under the tree Tenen was at and decided it was a nice spot to take a break. So he sat down and searched though his pack.

At first, he thought it would be just another of those strangers without anything interesting to offer, but he had the weird suspicions that this very stranger was following him. He slowly took out his dagger out of its sheet, and jumped down behind the man, his dagger near the other one's neck. He growled a bit under his breath like an animal, but said in a warm tone:

"Why are you following me? What is your deal here?"

Tion's eyes widen in panic a little bit, but he calmed himself. "I don't know what your talking about sir, I was leaving the village and wandering the forest...You see I'm trying to accomplish something and I would not follow you if I didn't felt you could help me or is of use to me which I can say, I'm sure I wasn't following you" -slows his breathing making it steady-

He snarled a bit; what a fool of himself he just made. He sheathed his dagger back, walking pass him to be face to face to him, but he kept his distance. "I'm sorry. Recently, my mind is just playing tricks on me." He leaned against a tree, looking at him with his odd orange eyes, lifting a lock of his greenish hair away from his face. " I don't think we've ever met. My name is Tenen." He pulled out a hand towards the man, smiling a bit to ease up the situation.

Tion sighed in relief."Thank god, you had me worried there for a minute.” he chuckles, "I'm Tion it's an honour" He shakes Tenen's hand, smiling trying to get past the misunderstanding and move on with their lives- "I was starting to wonder if I would see anyone in these woods"

He smirked a bit, shaking his hands as well. "Yeah, it is quite surprising sometimes. I often get ambushed, but it is part of my job. I'm guessing." He chuckled warmly, a bit.

Tion's eyes narrow. "What kind of job do you do anyway, if you don't mind me asking?

He tilted his head a bit. What a common question for him. "I'm a courier, someone who delivers messages across the known land. Sometimes, it is just love letters, but I often get more personal and secretive letters to be delivered. Those always attracts people, you know? "He smirking a bit. "How about you? What do you do with you life?"

Tion thinks for a moment and answers "I used to be a blacksmith in training until I decided to leave and do some heroic deeds and maybe find some adventures I just left my home today" he laughed a little. "Is that childish to want such a thing?"

He found it quite interesting, but he only crossed his arms. "Childish? Nan, I don't think so. It is very normal for someone like us to want something like this." He looked around a bit. "Say, do you mind if we start to walk a bit? I need to reach a certain place to report to my guild."

Tion smiles at his answer, "I'm glad you think so and I would love to walk with you it's a wonderful thing to be with someone and not wander alone if you ask me". Tion nods at him to lead the way and waits for him to start walking.

Tenen nodded. "Thanks. It is nice to have someone along as well." He chuckled softly, looking up at the sky for a moment to try to positionate himself compared to the place he had in mind.

Tion's eyes him as Tenen looks at the sky."What guild are you speaking of anyways?".

When he found his way, he looked down at him, nodding to the side to indicate him that he'll start walking towards the place. " It is the Trinity courier guild. I'm not sure why the name, but my parents partly owns the guild, so, it was better for me to be in the profession." He chuckled a bit, but he still had the suspicions that there was something else.

The black glow from under the giant's eyelid worried Michael immensely, but he wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't planned by the creators of the ambush. Thankfully, the giant still seemed to be breathing. Keeping his hands raised to show he wasn't holding anything, Michael shrugged his shoulders and looked to Allan.

"I don't think that sword will be much use. We can't defend Thoroark and they'll take him and I hostage to make you stop. I think our wizard and archer have thankfully both wandered off, but even if they were here we'd be in trouble."

The merchant tilted his head towards Thoroark and addressed what seemed to be the leader, hoping to be amicable and charm some information from the brigands surrounding them before he was jammed into some cage or prison to wait.

"That'll be from that crystal his employer got in the mail, right? Judging by you asking us to come along quietly, I'm guessing you wanted this group alive. Cursed to disable after being viewed, I'd imagine. Where'd you get it? I want one."

Im going to skip a little bit due to the massive wait for you all (Apologies) and by skip a little bit I mean not taking forever to walk up a small part of the mountain :P I am pushing right into the main plot-line and so I need ALL characters not currently on Willowspeak to either exit the village and begin travelling elsewhere (Matters not where only that they are travelling) or to arrive to aid the group within the next few posts. Once that is done I can get EVERYONE together in one place, and push into the simple beginning to our epic story!

Thanks in Advance and I look forward to seeing your posts. I apologize for the some-what low quality of my current one but I was kind of in a rush to get this RP revived!

Re: The Path well-worn

Was waiting on Odinson to rear his head again and post but he seems to have gone and died off somewhere .-., So we shall continue forth! Need to get this going again >~<, Keep having lots of interrupting and stalling nonesense. I'll try and chuck up a post today!

Re: The Path well-worn

Y'all okay? Awfully quiet and the activity tab seems to be gaining a deathly pallor.

Re: The Path well-worn

I just wanted you guys to know that I'm finally back!

Re: The Path well-worn

I want to warn everyone that I'll be leaving for vacation and I will be unable to post for the next 9 days, I'm sorry but I'm not the one who chooses the dates of my families vacations :/

Re: The Path well-worn

Heads up, I'm back and posting! Need to now this RP on up to all the exciting stuff, I apologise for all the interruptions of late. I shall be pushing towards the plot now and so prepare! x3

Re: The Path well-worn

Sorry for the holdup, I was unaware that I was the party pooper but at the moment im occupied with some birthdays and the international 3 so I might not put a post until next week, but be aware ill be working on it

Re: The Path well-worn

I don't really know. I'm waiting on glm, who is probably waiting on Romaneck for posting :/

Re: The Path well-worn

Uh... Oh. So what happens now...?

Re: The Path well-worn

Right-o,So people. I am suffering a week long ban from my computer, due to not handing in an assignment about whether or not, pathetically enough. Margarine was too processed to be eaten by ants or moss in the middle of a blistering cold winter. Point is,The experiment does not work,is easily answered and worth 0% of my grade but apparently 100% of my ability to Relax after a day of Teenage Whiney BS :3

So I'll either be unable to post,or attempting to not flunk any class with a computer while I pump out posts, and PM's left, right, and center. I apologize for this, but it's what happens when your fifteen and live with your parents.

Well, I hope that you can reach my message, because I really want to talk to you, since I'm getting a lil' bored.

Awe~ I hope you'll get better ^~^
