Age: 26
Sex: Female
Height: 170 cm (~5’ 7”)
Weight: 54 kg (~120 pounds)
Body Type: Mesomorph
Voice Type: Mezzo Soprano

Preferred Weaponry:

* Katana
* Hand-to-Hand Combat

Combat Style:

* Soft

Saiyan Rank: Vanguard

Starting Power Level: 100,000

Suppressed Power Level: 25,000

Personality: Kurosa is what you would call a true Saiyan Warrior in that she is serious, proud, and doesn’t take kindly to anyone undermining her power and how hard she’s worked to achieve it. She is tough, tenacious, and ruthlessly cunning as a warrior. Her combat experience is second to none, as she’s been fighting since she was old enough to walk with her siblings, friends, school bullies, competitive rivals, and her enemies all across the galaxy. Countless battles and life-or-death situations have forged her combat instincts to very near their peak. Even when caught off guard she remains cool and collected and quickly assesses and takes control of the situation. She never lets anyone or anything stand above her, so if you knock her down don’t you dare stand over her and gloat or you will face the wrath of a Saiyan unleashed.

Powers And Abilities:

* Infinite Ki Edge - Using her sword as a conduit, she channels her Ki through it and places a very sharp and focused layer of Ki over its edge. From this edge, she can slice through nearly anything and also fire projectile blues capable of doing extreme damage to anything they touch.

* Ki Gradient - A technique taught to her by her dear friend, Era Niir’lana. It allows her to form a protective layer of Ki over her body which diverts and dilutes incoming Ki attacks, even when they come from a being with power much greater than her own. However, the weakness of this technique is that it is incredibly taxing on the body, and the greater the difference in power between her and her enemy, the more stamina she loses when using it.

* Limit Breaker - This is a biological phenomenon possessed only by Kurosa and the other four Saiyans who survived the SLBP. The Limit Breaker ability comes in two forms:

A) Outbursts of anger which vastly increase their power levels for brief periods of time.

B) After recovering from grievous injuries, especially life-threatening injury, the Saiyan’s power level increases exponentially in proportion to the damage done.

Biography: The Saiyan Limit Breaker Project, or SLBP, was founded over twenty years ago on Haurbo Prime, a backwater world which had been colonized by Saiyans around two hundred years ago. In the initial stages of the project, it met with fierce resistance from the King of Saiyans for the idea that the “modification” of the Saiyan genome would “undermine” and “contaminate” the gene pool. He thus ruled that such experiments were highly illegal and would be met with execution by his very hand should anyone be found guilty of its practice. As a result, the original team moved to Haurbo Prime and created Ki-Shielded underground bunkers undetectable by power-reading devices of any kind to continue their tests in secret. And it is there that our story begins…

Kurosa is the first infant who was subjected to the tests while still inside her mother’s womb. Her mother, a scientist among the organization, had volunteered her unborn child to the experiment for the sake of advancing the Saiyan genome and unlocking the true potential of the Saiyan Race. As such, the unborn infant was carefully administered numerous injections while inside the womb through her mother’s lower abdomen throughout her development cycle. Each injection introduced a new strand of DNA meant to overtake the strands in the Saiyan genome which the lead scientists had found to be largely responsible for the limitations on Saiyan power. Kurosa had several close calls while in development, but ultimately didn’t suffer any crippling or debilitating effects.

Finally, the day had arrived. Birth. Kurosa was born after eleven hours of labor and found to be a perfectly healthy child. Tests were run on her blood to see if the introduced DNA had taken effect within her, but initial tests were negative. Kurosa was deemed a failed experiment at first… However, that did not last long.

Kurosa, at six months of age, had a temper tantrum and unleashed a small concussive burst of power from her body in a similar manner to a fully grown Saiyan power up. When they scanned her power level, they found it to be just over 200 which was unheard of for an infant. When they took another blood test after her outburst, they discovered something extraordinary. Her original DNA had attacked the introduced DNA, thinking it a virus/hostile presence, assimilated its properties, and made them its own. And all the while her original DNA blueprint hadn’t changed at all despite assimilating the introduced DNA’s properties. Her Saiyan body had conquered an introduced foe, and made its power its own.

This was the success they had been looking for. This was the Saiyan Limit Breaker Project’s dream made real.

Kurosa was subjected to numerous tests over the next few months, and it was found that every time she had an outburst her power level increased from where it had been originally. As well, she had accidentally fallen off a testing table and broke her arm. The scientists rushed her to the medical bay to splint the arm and provide her with a sedative to prevent another outburst, and after her recovery they found her power level had risen substantially. By the time she was only 10 months old her power level was already almost 1,200, and the team knew immediately that the experiment was a success. It was then they made the decision to find more test subjects and continue their experiments.

At first, results were negative across the board. It seemed Kurosa was a freak accident, never meant to be duplicated. Not until a breakthrough occurred thanks to an epiphany provided by Kurosa’s own mother. They had tried their experiments on infants who were already born, so she suggested that they repeat their success by subjecting pregnant mothers to the injections prior to birth as they’d done with Kurosa. At first the team was reluctant due to the health risks for both infant and mother to a prior-birth test, but Kurosa’s mother persisted arguing the point until she won the day and it was agreed to that the tests would commence.

Later that year, pregnant volunteers were brought in for the project and their unborn children subjected to the same injections as Kurosa had been throughout the pregnancy. Sadly, only six infants survived until birth, and only four survived after the first month of life. But those four joined a now 2 year-old Kurosa as successful efforts of forever changing Saiyan biology into something which would never again be limited by the previous weakness of their Race’s genome. But at this time, someone had also ratted the organization out for their experiments, and Kurosa and the children were spirited away as quickly as possible and all evidence of success destroyed by the time Saiyan law enforcement came for them. Kurosa’s mother, as well as all others involved in the experiment, were executed for illegal genetic experimentation as per the King’s orders.

To this day, Kurosa is the only one who knows why it is that this group of five Saiyans is not bound by the limitations of their brethren. As far as the Saiyan Race knows, these five special individuals do not exist. They suppress their powers in an effort to blend in, as they know that the current King, having known about the SLBP, would have them executed as the result of the experiments. But he is aging. Once he dies, they will finally be able to show the rest of their Saiyan brothers and sisters who and what they are. They will finally be able to show them the glory of potentially unlimited power and the dominance the Saiyan Race may one day possess if they continue to evolve and grow stronger.

So begins...

Totoma seemed to be utterly enjoying himself as Kurosa put distance between them before launching her ki blast. And the smile only grew as he noticed Era's attack hurtling towards him as well. "Typhoon Blitz!" He once again used one of his signature attacks but this time he used it defensively as the tiny balls of energy collided and exploded taking the coming attacks with them. A massive dust cloud formed from all the explosions and the sound of Totoma's laughter could be heard through the dust. "See isn't this fun. We should do this more often." With a single pulse of his ki the dust dispersed instantly and continued his assault once more. His movements were quick and sharp as he appeared above Kurosa with a powerful elbow drop.

Kurosa watched as Totoma blasted their Ki waves off and took off to try an elbow drop on her.

Thanks to how direct the attack was and the fact that it was nearly impossible to change momentum, she managed to just avoid the brunt of the blow but still caught the edge of his arm against her shoulder on the way down. It pulled her down a little bit and forced her to hit the ground, but once there she was able to blast Totoma in the face at point-blank range as he'd come down along with her.

With that blast, it was over.

"All right. That's enough!" She called.

Everyone gathered around.

"This has been fairly successful. I've already gauged our weaknesses during this brief period, so let me go over them with you." She said.

She looked at Era.

"Era... Your primary weakness in these drills was your passive approach. When Totoma attacked you during your turn at 50,000, you simply avoided his attack and retreated to the dust cloud. You could have tried sending his attack back his way and follow it with your own attack. With the power gap being where it was, it would have been guaranteed that at least one of them would land. Try to challenge us more aggressively next time, okay?" She asked.

Era nodded.

"Yes, ma'am." Era replied.

Even when Kurosa was admonishing them, there was a sort of kindness about it which prevented Era from ever getting defensive or upset about it. All she could do was smile.

Kurosa turned to Totoma.

"Totoma... Your primary weakness in the training was using attacks that are too direct. Many of your attacks travel in a straight line, such as the final elbow drop, which is why I got the better of you. Start varying the angles of your attacks to keep your opponents off balance. Directness is good in moderation, but shrewd enemies will adapt quickly to such a method of approach. Understand?" She asked.

"When you're right, you're right." He said with a shrug. "So used to having people baking me up." His power plummeted back down to it's normal 17, 000 as he sighed. "I'll work on some different variants of my attacks." He fell backward to the ground to sit in the still messy battle zone. "So Kurosa, any word on what the next planet will be attacking is? A member from one of the other Vanguard units is trying to bring my unit in as support for the next raid. Just want to know what to be expected if we can." He stretched and yawn as he laid back. "Also are you familiar with the leader of the Vanguard unit Gamma, think her name was Luppa or something, she's been showing up at my unit the past few days trying to convince me to take a promotion to her unit. Something to do with my potential being wasted in a basic frontline unit. Asking me how I train and wanting to spare with me, wondering who my family was and all sorts of super personal questions." In a sudden panic, he shot up from laying down. "You don't think she suspects something about me do you?"

Kurosa listened to Totoma, and replied to each question in turn.

"Our next mission has not yet been assigned. We are still on standby." She replied to the first question.

"I am familiar. Luppa and I have met a few times in Leadership Meetings. We don't speak much though, so I don't know much about her."

Her eyes narrowed when she heard about the promotion offer.

"Luppa..." She hissed.

"Recruiting others from another unit and even going so far as to offer a promotion is not her job... Such a decision is not up to her anyway. She can make a request for a promotion, but she herself cannot issue them... So what's her game?" She asked, more of herself than either Era and Totoma.

"And no, I don't think there's any reason to believe she suspects something about you. If she did, she'd suspect all of us since we're all in the same unit." She said, trying to calm him down.

She put her fingers around her chin and thought.

"... Obviously we need you to stay here, for all of our sakes. We can't risk anyone finding us out, no matter the circumstances." She said quietly.

"... I need time to think on this... Both of you, continue your training together. Practice your techniques. Go over cooperation exercises... Just... Give me some time." She said.

With that, Kurosa floated away towards the distant mountains, which was her favorite meditation spot.

"Kurosa..." Era whispered.

She'd never seen Kurosa like that... What was happening?

Era chuckled.

"I know you can, Totoma." She said happily.

Era let out a breath and charged at Totoma.

...

Later that evening, when everything had settled down, Kurosa called Totoma and Era to her in the mountains with a simple Ki blast into the sky. When they'd arrived, she invited them to sit down with her in the moonlight.

"I've had some time to think about what Totoma said, about Luppa asking him into her squad with a promotion..."

"And...? What did you come up with?" Era asked, obviously somewhat anxious.

"A conspiracy."

Era was taken aback.

"A what?!" She asked.

"You heard me, Era... Like I said, Luppa doesn't have the authority to promise promotions or make offers to members of other squads. But if she made the offer, it means she's already received permission, or has forged permission. Either way, it has to go through the Chief of Military Operations. And he always makes public announcements about such things through our intergalactic network (basically email) as well as via voice-over recordings of his announcements and decisions broadcast across our network with priority over all other broadcasts... There has been no such announcements of any such decision or transfer, nor any finalizations of promotion opportunities." She said.

Era plopped down into her seat, aghast that something like this would be happening.

"Given these facts, we know that Luppa has not received actual permission for any of this. And she's not stupid. She would not make a move like this without knowing she was safe from the repercussions, so someone above her is protecting her. Someone with access to the record books... And this is most certainly a conspiracy."

"I can't... Even imagine." Era said, still dazed.

"The question I was pondering this whole time is... "Why would Luppa be asking for Totoma?"... The only conclusion I came to is an alarming one, and it is what Totoma feared... Someone has found us out." She said in a solemn voice.

Totoma stood there dumbfounded as Kurosa gave her theory. "That...uh that all sounds complicated." He scratched his head in confusion, trying to piece together how to respond. "So, it seems like she is doing something shady behind the Chief of military operations back ... and seemingly can get away with it. That sounds incredibly bad. Now I know I'm not the brightest one of us. But why don't I just ask her?" He said sheepishly. "I mean I could just call her and ask her why she is so hell bent on me being in her unit. Make it seem like I want to. Or you could ask her when she inevitably shows up at my unit tomorrow."

Kurosa glanced up to Totoma.

"No, Totoma. She will take measures to erase her tracks if we try to approach her... I have a better idea."

She stood up from her spot.

"If Luppa wants to recruit you, she must have gained the approval of the Commander of the Vanguard to make it happen right under the Chief of Military Operation's nose... I'm going to have a word with him. If he doesn't know about what she's done, then we know the problem is not as serious as we thought."

She looked to Era.

"Find the Commander's contact info in our ship's databank and patch me through to him when we get back, Era."

"Yes, ma'am."

"Before we take further action, we need to know how much the Commander knows. If he doesn't know what Luppa has done, then it must be one of the lower ranked officials such as a General or Commander of the regular military. And if it's just one of them, then we can take more pro-active measures about figuring out who's found us out and wants us to reveal ourselves... Because I'm almost certain that's what Luppa intended for you, Totoma. She is notorious for using rather extreme measures during training to force her group to utilize the maximum power they possess. Their powers average in the 25-30,000 range, and your registered 17,000, against all of them, would not last long. I'm sure she was trying to get you into a position where you had to reveal that your registered 17,000 power level was not enough, and reveal the depths of your power so she could get you executed by the King."

Era's face drained of color.

Totoma felt a chill go through him. "That...uh would be uh not so good." he rubbed his neck as if feeling for an invisible knife. "How could she eve deduce that I have a greater power level." he sighed trying to think. "I'm always doubly sure my power is in check. I have never used any of my suppressed power..." He thought hard about any time he may have used his power. Suddenly his eyes widened. "Uh oh. My power may have spiked during a few raids back. "The building I was clearing out collapsed and I lost focus for a brief moment. It wasn't even a half a second but I'm sure my power passed 20,000. There was no one around me so I didn't think anyone saw but what if she did."

Kurosa's eyes darted to Totoma.

"If your power did spike, then the Scouters and battle recorders would have picked it up... And that record would be sent up the chain."

She thought to herself a moment.

"But, then again... No, wishful thinking..." She began, but corrected herself.

"Regardless, if Luppa suspects you, Totoma, then she suspects all of us. You're part of our group, and as such Luppa is smart enough to make the connection that if you can do it then so can Era and I. But I doubt she knows the full extent of what she or anyone else saw that day. She's probably being cautious, and trying to see if she can force a reveal in a rather ordinary fashion... She and whoever cleared this for her."

"B-but if they found us out, we'll all be executed." Era said worriedly.

"No, Era... We won't be. Not so long as we can chalk it up to a simple electronic fault. Scouters sometimes read incorrect signatures. It's very rare, but they do sometimes read more than one power signature at a time, thinking them to be of a single source if they're close enough. If anyone else was near Totoma when he spiked his power, then we'll have an alibi."

"*Phew*" Era sighed.

"That's no reason to relax, Era. But yes, try to relax as much as you can. I will work on putting together an alibi if I can confirm anyone else was near Totoma that day by observing the recordings. And if I can confirm that, then if we find out that this goes as high as the Chief of Military Operations we will use it against him when we are summoned for questioning."

Kurosa turned to both of them.

"Get some rest you two... I have a feeling the next couple of days are going to be a bit rough for us, legally speaking."

Totoma sat up the look on his face said it all, 'It's all my fault.' but there was a chance they were all wrong and maybe this would all blow over but for now, sleep was in order. Era had done a number on him the last hour or so of training, his arm still felt a bit sore. 'Note to self, don't piss of Era...ever.' "Well, I guess I'll have to work harder to make sure no slip-ups happen." Looking defeated he stood up.

"Totoma." She called.

She walked over and put a hand on his shoulder.

"Don't stress about this too much. If I can't find anything to prove that someone else was near you to trick the Scouter or power reading apparatus that was used to record the battle, then it's not that big of a deal. The important thing is not whether or not anyone found us out. It's who may have found us out. So long as the Chief of Military Operations doesn't know about Luppa and what she's done, I can work my way down the chain until I find out who does. Then, I can figure out where to go from there."

She gave his shoulder a friendly squeeze, and offered him a smile.

"Just leave this to me, Totoma. Whoever saw that record and is looking into it, rest assured that I will find them before they find us. Trust me."

She let go of his shoulder, and gave him a soft, friendly punch to the chest.

"Get some rest, Totoma. Tomorrow I want you to continue your training with Era and focus more on the Ki Gradient... Call me paranoid, but I have a feeling all of us are going to need it soon for some reason... Regardless, I will start my own investigation about all of this tomorrow, and I will find out who's seen too much and figure out our next step." She said.

"I'll try not to worry. But I do need to check in with my unit tomorrow. Callio is finally all healed up from a bad training accident with another squad." He gave a faint smile. "I'd be a horrible team leader if I didn't check in with him as when he got back." He chuckled at he friendly punch, if she wasn't overly worried then he would try to keep it together as well. "I'll make it brief and rush back here for training with Era."

Kurosa nodded, letting him take off.

When he was gone, she turned to Era with a sigh.

"So, what now?" Era asked.

"Get some rest, Era. Leave the investigation to me, and focus on your training. When Totoma comes back, you'll be in good shape to continue working with him on the Ki Gradient. He's going to need it."

"If I may ask, Kurosa... Why will he need it?" Era asked.

Kurosa regarded her with a saddened and troubled expression.

"... I've been... Dreaming, lately." She said.

"Dreaming of what?" Era asked.

"I-... I don't know. All I know is that in my dreams I felt an overwhelming power that made me feel... Small."

Era was shocked.

Kurosa never felt small or weak by comparison to someone else. She was the strongest Saiyan alive for goodness' sake!

"I don't really believe in premonitions or things like that, but this one has been recurring and so vivid that I can't ignore it any longer. I don't know if such a thing is real, but I have a very bad feeling about our near future. And I feel the Ki Gradient will be our key to salvation." She said.

Era nodded, gulping a little.

Kurosa, noticing this, smiled at her and walked over to give her a hug.

"It'll be okay, Era. Trust me. This will all pass, and you, Totoma, and myself will all be fine. I promise." She cooed.

Era closed her eyes and melted into Kurosa's hug, returning it in kind.

"Thanks Kurosa... I trust you." Era replied.

Kurosa broke the hug and put her hands on Era's shoulders, still smiling.

"Then go get some sleep. You need it."

Era nodded, and flew off to go get some rest back at their cabin. And as she left, Kurosa looked up at the night sky with concern.

"... I hope that dream is just a dream..." She whispered.

She then flew to the cabin as well to rest.

But somewhere deep in space, more than a galaxy away... A dark and ominous power was gathering and growing.

Slumped comfortably into his bed, the events of the day still weighing heavily on his mind. Fortunately for him, the perk of a massive training schedule like the one he kept is being able to fall asleep almost at will. And without much issue, he eventually fell fast asleep with his rhythmic snoring heard throughout.

The next day he had left early to check in on his team. All seemed well rested and ready to start their training. "Morning guys. Sorry, I didn't check in yesterday had some stuff at home to do. Callio, feeling better I hope." He spent some time chatting with his men before seeing them off to their training. Watching with a smile he longed to spar with them but he didn't have time to linger, for he had no idea how long it would be till Luppa showed up. As he turned to leave his fear had already been realized behind him stood the commander. "C-Commander Luppa..." He quickly saluted his superior. "W'what can I do for you on this pleasant day."

The commander of the Vanguard team Gamma approached him slowly, a smile on her face. "I told you last time just call me Luppa, and I came by to see if you thought about my offer anymore." As she got closer she took her finger and ran it over his chest. "You're wasting your potential here on the front lines. And my team needs a new attacker." Slowly she circled him like an animal stalks its prey. "I saw you fight during the last mission. Your raw emotion on the battlefield is simply astounding. Unfortunately, you hold yourself back for the sake of your team. Never allowing yourself to truly cut loose and go wild. Admirable as it may be you might actually be putting them in more damage seeing as you prolong the fighting to make sure they are safe and sound."

Totoma froze up at her words, could he really have been putting his team in more danger by protecting them rather than ending a fight quickly.

Luppa continued "If you were in my unit you would be more than able to reach your fullest. All of us are powerful so you wouldn't have to worry about us. All I'm asking is for you to really consider advancement. I know you refused a promotion from the Chief twice but if you agree now, it wouldn't be overly difficult to convince them to push your papers through. Especially if you have someone like me backing you. Or if you are really adamant about not wanting to leave your unit I can put in for a transfer, so your unit would be directly under me. With my vanguard unit overseeing you, we could ensure your safety a bit better allowing you to not worry so much." She paused behind him. "Can't you just taste it, the thrill of battle without restraints. Nothing holding you back, we could fight side by side and watch our enemies fall. As a Saiyan what more could you want?"

The offer was tempting, far more tempting then he had thought it could be. In his mind his mind he wondered if Kurosa might have been wrong and maybe Luppa was just trying to look out for him. His gaze dropped to the floor as doubt filled him. "I'm flattered, really I am. But I need more time to think about it."

Luppa's smile grew. "Of course I don't want you to think I'm pressuring you. I just want what's best. To allow you to be the Saiyan you were meant to be. You know what you need a good sparring match, get the blood pumping and loosen up a bit. I'd be more than happy to go a few rounds. I'll even lower my power level to yours if you'd like."

Totoma wanted to call Kurosa and ask her what to do, but he knew Luppa would think something was up if he declined to spare. She seemed to know a lot about him as if she was either watching him or asking about him. Maybe Luck would be on his side and Kurosa would just show up or even Era would be acceptable, a legitimate excuse to leave.

Kurosa did not sleep at all. She tried, but the concern over this development kept her up so she began her investigation just before midnight. She dove into her data bank, finding communication information for the important higher ups she figured would be in on it, finding Luppa's comms information, and anything else she felt would be even remotely useful for her purposes.

She spent hours, well into the wee hours of the following morning, sifting through information and reports, making calls, sending out notifications, and weaving a widow's web safety precautions should anything go awry.

... At last, she found the report she was looking for. A single message sent out to everyone, which held an encrypted attachment that only Luppa and an anonymous recipient would be able to open as it stated her name directly, as well as the word "anonymous".

Kurosa saved the message, and sent it to a friend of hers who responded immediately that they would get to work on cracking the encryption. Once they finished, they would deliver it to her personally. She was satisfied with this response, and closed communication erasing all tracks she could of their conversation.

And then finally, she got her hands on the recorded footage of the battle Totoma was talking about. She sifted through it frame by frame when she found the section where the building came down on him.

"Where are you?" She asked herself.

Frame by miserable frame, she scoured through it for hours looking for any signs that Totoma wasn't the only one in that building... Nothing.

She sat back in her chair and rubbed her eyes, yawning, and nearly giving up hope. But then she remembered that even in this recorded footage she had her power reading apparatus set to analyze given power levels in real time. She went back to the beginning of the footage and watched it in real time with the power readers active, her eyes scanning like a predatory bird for anything pointing to others being near Totoma in that building. And as the moments of importance approached, she did spy one other person dive into the building after him at first before it came down on top of them.

She paused it on a clean frame where the power reading was easily visible, and analyzed it. A power level of just over 6,000, probably one of the basic front line units under the command of someone not unlike herself. The power level's final clean frame of analysis before it disappeared too far into the building to read was not far from Totoma... But would it fool anyone into thinking that this was a Scouter malfunction and mis-reading? She couldn't be sure.

The power level was just far enough away from him that the final clean frame was... well... clean. Clearly two separate powers.

But... Wait a sec.

Remembering her Leadership Training, she futzed with the controls until she found the 'Reader Amplifier' and turned it up. The power readings became crystal clear again, and she resumed her frame by frame analysis. And... Much to her delight, the power reading came to a dead stop directly behind Totoma's and, as she had been hoping, indeed malfunctioned and read them as a single power source.

She froze the frame, smiling ear to ear, and captured the screen image to save as evidence in the event she needed it. She also saved the footage to five different locations, as well as externally to ensure nobody could try and erase it while they were away.

With her evidence in hand for any suspicions that may arise during questioning, she stood tall and proud in her quarters as she shut her computers down and finally crashed on the bed as the sun started rising.

Era, meanwhile, had come to check on her and found her passed out with all of her equipment still powering down. She looked at Kurosa, then back to the computers, and then back to Kurosa with a sad smile.

"Oh Kurosa..." She whispered.

She walked to Kurosa's side, finding a small flash drive device still clutched in her hand, and gently wrapped Kurosa's fingers around it more securely as she lifted her legs onto the bed and tucked her in beneath the covers. When finished, Era leaned down and kissed Kurosa's forehead, whispering...

"You always take such good care of us, and that smile shows you found what you wanted. Thank you for protecting Totoma, and myself as well... You truly are the leader, and sister, we need." She said, once again kissing her forehead.

Era was always affectionate this way, often giving Kurosa, Totoma, and the others when they were still alive little pecks on the cheek and forehead from time to time to give them just a little taste of compassion which their lives otherwise lacked. Once Kurosa was tucked in, smile in tact, Era quietly closed the door to her room and decided it was time to go find Totoma.

"He's usually back by now." She thought.

She flew up into the sky and cranked up her Scouter, looking for Totoma's signature. When she found it, she raced towards it at top speed... At least, top speed for what her registered power could accomplish.

Era just hoped he was wearing his Scouter.

"Era to Totoma, come in please!... She found it. Kurosa found it!" She said excitedly over their comm channel.

Era smiled for Luppa, but inside she was frowning.

She didn't like this woman for... Other reasons.

Era picked up Totoma and flew him back to their cabin where they had a single rejuvenation chamber to use. She set him inside and activated the chamber.

The first thing it did when analyzing him was check his vitals, all of which were stable.

The second thing was check his physical condition, which was fine.

The third was to examine his fatigue, which was rather high.

All in all, he was fine. But he would need at least fifteen minutes in the chamber to revitalize his energy levels.

For most Saiyans, this simply meant restoring their power. But for Era, Totoma, and Kurosa, this meant something else.

Kurosa called it the "Zenkai", a boost of energy after recovering from either injuries or over-exertions of energy which could cause micro-damage inside the body. The chamber said he was fine, but even so his body might enjoy a roughly 2-4K boost in overall power output after this raising his 77,777 power to anywhere between 79,000 and 81,000.

Era smiled and sat down in a chair not far away near the door, watching and waiting for him to wake up while Kurosa continued to sleep peacefully in her quarters.

After ruffly twenty minutes past his eyes slowly opened. "Huh?!" It took him a few moments to realize what had happened before he blacked out. With another moment to realize he was in a rejuvenation chamber, he hated how these things made him smell afterward. There was a steady beeping followed by a buzzer as the fluids within the chamber slowly drained out. Once empty the door opened with a hiss. After removing the mask he stepped out with a stretch and a deep breath. "I hate those things. So I guess I lost that fight huh..." he couldn't recall what happened after he fired his attack. He looked to Era and gave his normal goofy smile, signifying he was okay.

Era chuckled.

"True."

She took in a breath and let it out on a sigh.

"However, since Luppa and her crew have arrived on the planet now, we can't power up the way we did before. Their Scouters will pick up on our power levels in a heartbeat." She warned.

"So we will have to make due with our registered power levels." She said.

Era walked with Totoma to the door so they could leave and start training, and they began and Totoma tried his ideas with Era cooperating so he could challenge himself and grow. She challenged him in her own way as well, pushing him to be his best as much as she could.

But while they were training, they were unaware that Kurosa awoke in the early afternoon clutching her chest in pain from an illness they had not been made aware of. Kurosa stumbled to the rejuvenation chamber and occupied it, using the internal remote system to scan herself without having to fill the chamber with water. When she exited the chamber, she sat down and listened to the report, still clutching her chest as a single bead of sweat dripped from her temple.

Welcome, User.

Preliminary scans show an abnormal growth in your upper torso precisely one inch north of your heart resting against your left lung.

Immediate surgical removal is advised.

Scans have not detected cancerous cells or tumors. Radiation treatment is not required.

Secondary scans show the growth is compressing your heart and causing abnormal beat patterns which is negatively affecting your blood flow. If the growth is allowed to remain, scans indicate its growth will compress your heart to potentially life-threatening abnormal beat patterns within the next six months.

Repeat, immediate surgical removal is advised.

Kurosa dipped her head down, taking in a deep breath and letting it out through her teeth on a hiss to slow her heart rate and help it come under control.

"If only it were that easy." She grumbled as she shut the machine off.

For Kurosa, and all Saiyans, surgery was never as simple as just doing the surgery.

Surgical equipment for Saiyans was incredibly precise and, worse still, very sensitive. Each equipment piece was calibrated for specific power levels, and would break or malfunction if the power level didn't match its calibration. And suppressing one's power didn't help with this. Kurosa found that out the hard way by observing one of the early survivors undergo surgery and break too many pieces of equipment before she was taken to the King and executed.

If Kurosa went to get surgery now... She would be found out in a heartbeat. The instant her registered 25,000 power level failed to allow the surgical equipment to operate on her, suspicions would arise due to the memory of what happened to the other survivor many years ago. And if they went up and it malfunctioned again, it was a death sentence.

She could not risk that, so she kept it to herself.

Totoma's movements seemed far sharper during training than it had during the previous day. He experimented with controlling the Typhoon blitz after firing it to bring all the tiny blasts to a single point, as well as trying to fire off faster variants of Grand Impact. All in all, Totoma would call it an enlightening day. By the late afternoon, he allowed himself to just collapse to the ground. "I live for days like this. Battle, followed with more battle." He laughed as he laid there looking up at the sky lost in his own thoughts.

Era sat on a rock not far from Totoma, breathing evenly despite the workout which had her drenched in sweat from head to toe.

"There is a certain satisfaction in this feeling, isn't there? Being able to train rigorously to exhaustion knowing you'll be that little bit stronger, that little bit better, by the end." She said.

As the two of them caught their breath, Kurosa arrived on the scene and landed a few dozen feet away with a smile.

"Greetings, you two. I'm sorry if I overslept. You look tired... Long workout?" She asked.
