Despite a bad record of events in her life, Kira maintains an odd spring in her heel and energy in her spirits. There's no rule against it in the mafia, and things needn't always be so glum but perhaps that's a matter of her inner and owed child. Getting away from Ireland and faking her death made her feel liberated, so in her eyes there's a lot to be happy for - towards this redo and second shot of life. She knows her outlook and smile isn't always welcome though, and some matters seriously don't call for it. Kira is rather talented in acknowledging and accepting harsh reality, tuning her emotions quickly in check for whatever the cause and finding a balance.
There are certain scenarios that manage to tug any high spirits down, and make her lose focus for split seconds, and that is the constant and creeping anxiety that the Irish Mafia she came from tracks her down and outright murders her. She is taunted by nightmares of them. This is a harsh tug to reality as is having no relation to the Cuevas', making her look quite timid at times. Kira would be hesitant to let strangers into a family so she sees her position as an adversity but achievable, because she knows how capable she is, she just has much ground that she is willing to prove. In fact she is desperate to prove herself more than a child. While she has her oddities, her own conscience and is able to think for herself, not much becomes off limits if it means joining the family with true code and loyalty. However, she doubts her personality will have much involvement in the final say, instead it will be about how efficiently she can get her required tasks done.
Kira was born into an Irish Mafia Family and was quickly exposed to the risks and rewards. They never gave her a choice, even though deep down she knew she always had one. She could stay with mum who drew herself out of mafia life, but would always be involved or stand with her dad in business. She chose the adventurous and eventful kind with her father and for some time, did the family proud. But as time progressed and she grew, her father grew less patient and intolerant that she wasn't a male. Instead he took an interest in Brandon and promoted him as he saw fit.
Mafia life was never guaranteed to be safe or cozy but when she was attacked by men that had it out for the family, she did expect some form of vengeance. "Dad, they spat on your name. They took me! Are we really not going to do anything?!" He struck her and somehow that one hit hurt more than any attack on her before. But even that wasn't what tipped her over. What did it for her was the lack of code some members lived by.
The fast rising of the ranks Brandon approached her and asked for some time alone which turned to a date. The date turned to numerous ones and then they became an item. She was hopelessly endeared by him, though she wanted to dislike him for becoming unconditional favorite, and she did try. Kira joked even when they were together how she hated him for coming out of nowhere and being some mafia god.
However, sunshine and rainbows never lasted. A simple job turned to a matter swarmed with cops and the family fled in different directions. Kira was alone and and couldn't contact any member, though she did try. Prince Charming swooped in as she started to lose hope. "Kira." He cupped her neck. "We have to go. We have to leave. I made a huge mistake. I didn't know what else to do, the cops cornered me." Her heart beat out of her chest. But she thought it was the escape she needed all along. She agreed of course and they thought it best to split up, gather a selective few things then flee. Kira was betrayed yet again as Brandon was cornered by the family and told the tale that Kira had given the cops information on the family. When they prompted for more, how he knew this, where she was, he also submitted and told them of her plan to leave. He had copped a beating for being an asset, then the hunt was on for the boss' own daughter.
Luckily she had one friend on the inside, being her mother that let her know. So what did that leave for an escape? Faking her own death of course.
Moving on from mafia life was hard. Normality seemed too mundane and it didn't sit right with her. She wanted a family and loyalty, but she was too developed for adoption. Then sparked the only fitting idea of joining another kind of family. One which she knew she'd suit.
