He smiled down at her, "I can do that. It is no big deal. I live on the lake island. I rather you be safe." He said and she blushed a bit. He seemed nice and loveable... so why coudln't she have fallen for someone like Amell? Maybe it was because she was probably young enough to be his daughter. Hazel looked over at Hadasha and smiled softly. "My daddy is a bodyguard... it is literally his job to guard people." She giggled. Hadasha blinked, "Oh right! He protects Barynn." She said and shook her head. "Totally forgot." She giggled. Dev watched the two interact before looking at Amell and signing to him. "Dear god no, Dev." He said but she signed again. "Dev..." He said with a bit if warning in his voice. Dev had wanted him to date Hadasha since she seemed sweet and loveable.
Hazel could make out some of the sign language but not a whole bunch so she was confused.
Hadasha shook her head, "Oh no... I am a family friend. I am actually related to the Keavaris... the village on the lake island." She said softly. Dev blinked, "You mean... those tall elves?" She asked confused. "Half," Hadasha replied. "Their mother is full dwarf, my aunt, and their father is full elf. Both wonderful people." She said.
Dev smiled, "That's cute... really tall man..." she said and looked over at Amell. "With a really short woman." She smiled brightly. Hazel blinked and sighed, "stinking cursed." Amell glared at Dev before looking at his daughter. "How are you cursed?" He asked and she shook her head while eating before looking at Gammie. "Is Danny asleep? I missed his cute little face." She smiled. Dev had wondered about that damn kid that made Hazel feel like she was in the way of her father getting Gammie. She would beat the shit out of her brother if he was actually choosing that damn kid over his own daughter.
"Hey..." She huffed, trying to catch her breath. "You move so fast for a dwarf." She smirked before taking a deep breath and looking up at him. "I have no idea why you dislike humans and elves so much. I never, not even once, understood my grandfather and father's disdain for them... especially when they have been nothing but kind to us... well... most of them. Our kind hasn't been the kindest to them. Either way, I can let it somewhat pass for the adults, but Hazel is just a child and it was clear how you felt about them. Plus you sister is trying SO hard to get Hazel to like her, but it seems like every time she has the poor girl over something goes wrong. I just hope this isn't your way of trying to get your siblings back home. Cherono has a human boyfriend who would lay his life down for him. Barynn has the same... I can't really speak for the twins because... well... that is a mess. Amell seems like a genuine man who literally gets paid to protect Barynn. They get along so well. He gets along well with Gammie and your nephew seems to adore him." She said and looked down at her hands. "What if this was one of your children in the place of Hazel? She had no fear of your height... she just misread your... sullen look as someone who might murder her if she looked at you wrong. Hazel may be taller than you but doesn't make her any less of a child." She said and sighed before looking back at the house.
"I honestly don't know why I came out here... I feel like maybe if I talked to you about it..." She said and looked back at him. "Sorry, I will let you get back on trying to find your brother." She said and smiled before walking back towards the house.
Gamaya came back downstairs a moment later, carrying Danonte. He still looked a little sleepy-eyed, and he blinked a bit, rubbing one of his eyes and holding on to her with the other hand. When he saw Hazel and Amell, he squealed and immediately started to make grabby hands, and Gamaya laughed softly. "Looks like someone's cute little face is excited to see you, sweetie," she said to Hazel with a smile. "He really seemed smitten with you the last time you were here. I'm going to have to have a talk with your father about playdates now," she joked with a light laugh.
Hazel smiled softly when she came back down with Dan. When he squealed she couldn't help but laugh. Dev, on the other hand, was dying. "Amell... do you see the cute tiny boy? Please tell me you do. Ugh, why couldn't I have married a dwarf?" She said and Amell chuckled. "I have no idea, hopefully, if you had he wouldn't have been a jerk to you." He said and she nodded. Hazel got up and gently took Dan in her arms before gently tickling his side. "Did you have a good sleep, buddy? I think you have." She laughed before sitting down. "Can he eat cookies?" She asked Gammie before looking up at her.
Gamaya laughed a little at Dev's reaction to seeing Danonte, glancing at Amell when he commented that hopefully a dwarf wouldn't have been a jerk to Dev. "Never settle for a man who does anything less than treat you like royalty," Gamaya told her with a smile. "If he doesn't make you feel like his world revolves around you, then move on. My husband made sure every day to let me know how much he treasured and cherished me..." she said softly, her voice trailing off a bit. She wondered if she'd done enough of the same for him. Had he died knowing how treasured and cherished he was? She hoped so. She handed Danonte off to Hazel and he squealed with delight when she tickled his side. Gamaya smiled when she asked if he could eat cookies. "Your cookies are nice and soft, so yeah, he can have a cookie," she said.
Dev nodded, "Gammie got it right. You hear that Hazel, never less than royalty... Or I get to beat them up... right after your father and Vlora." She laughed a bit. Hazel nodded, "Gotcha." She said and turned her attention back to Dan. "Oh ho ho, you heard what she said about my cookie? Nice and soft, hon hon hon." She giggled and held him close. He was so cute, "But we gotta eat dinner first. Something about it ruining our meals? My mother always said dessert came second... unless it was a bad day, then dessert always came first." Hazel said softly. "Do you want me to feed him? I don't mind." She smiled. Dev about died, "Look how grown she looks." She said and Amell blinked. "Why do you have makeup on?" He asked.
Hazel laughed, "You are JUST now noticing? Vlora went on a romantic date with her lovely lawyer boyfriend. So I helped her get ready and as payment, she did my makeup." She smiled while Amell studied her face. "Mmm, I don't know how I feel about this... you really are too pretty for makeup... maybe don't wear it so much for now. Okay?" He said and she nodded, "Oke dokes." She said and went back to playing with Dan as Hadasha walked in.
Dev took notice of her, she was smiling but the poor girl just looked so down. The small girl took her seat and ate in silence. Amell took notice of it too and shook his head.
Hadasha went put her plate into the sink before cleaning it and then going back. She stared down at the recipe for the cake Gammie had written for her and tapped her finger gently on it. Should she call off the dinner? Sitting back down she thought about it some more. Why did she ask him in the first place? To be friendly and get to know him, but the time spent so far had just resulted in sadness. He had such hate for humans and elves that she much rather not spend any more time with him. She had enough of that growing up. Hadasha gently pushed the recipe away and looked up at Dev. "So... Dev is it?" She asked and Dev looked up with a mouth full and smirked before nodding. "I see you are new here... what bought you here?" She asked softly.
"Ahh well... my ex-husband was abusive and like an idiot I just took it, but then I found out I was pregnant and decided I couldn't be stupid anymore and left for the sake of the baby. I would have stayed with my parents but I knew he would have come for me so I left the country and came here since I knew Vlora and Hazel were coming and Amell wouldn't leave his pregnant sister on the streets." She smirked and looked up at him. He huffed, "It is tempting." He teased and she huffed. "I heard you had a sister like me, but smaller... and I gotta be friends with her. Also heard she was dating my brother's look-a-like... so now I def gotta meet her sometime before I start my job next week." She smiled.
"Oh a carrot cake recipe," Dev said and picked up the paper.
