{β˜› ⒼⒺⓃⒺⓇ⒢Ⓛ β’Άβ“…β“…β’Ίβ’Άβ“‡β’Άβ“ƒβ’Έβ’Ίβ˜š }

Winter is rather unremarkable in appearance. She is average height, a bit thin, a little bit lanky. Her eyes are her only unique feature, purple, ever since the day of the incident. Her leg was supposed to be amputated, but the Doctors managed to save it. She walks with a limp, due to this. Her skin marred with the scars of her biggest regret. If only she had said no, if only she had gone alone that day. Winter is not self conscious of her scars, or of her body. She sleeps with gloves at night to protect her hands, her most precious asset. She wears clothing that her Grandparents got her and prefers vintage fashion more than anything else, as it was her Grandmother's favorite. She has a handful of old heirlooms, from the way the world used to be. Her cane used to be her Grandfather's, whittled by hand in his favorite rocking chair. Winter doesn't care what others think, she is her own person.

Even if Winter thinks she is average, her features are remarkable. Porcelain skin, white lashes and eyebrows, dainty lips. She looks like one of those hand painted dolls, with delicate fingers and moves with a grace that only those with tragedy can carry themselves with.

β₯ Janet || Janet is the agent assigned to watch over her, she doesn't say much, but it's just a comfort to know that she's always there.
β₯ Cotton Candy Perfume ||| It's the scent her Grandmother always wore, it's the scent that reminds her of home.
β₯ Instruments || Her instruments are her family, her music is her life.
β₯ Competing || Competition has completely consumed Winter's life. She'd rather feel the rush of adrenaline than the dread of returning to an empty apartment.

For the very first time, there I see
Someone with the same pains as me
Having done this time and time again
She wore a yellow cardigan
"I just wanna stop the scars that grow
Ev-e-ry-time that I go home"
"That's why I came up here instead"
That's what the girl in the cardigan said
Whoa, wait a minute what did I just say?
I couldn't care less either way
But in the moment I just screamed
Something that I did not believe
"Hey, don't do it please!"

Aah what to do?
I can't stop this girl, oh this is new
For once I think I've bitten off more than I can chew
But even so please just go away so I can't see
Your pitiful expression is just too much for me!
"I guess today is just not my day"
She looked away from me and then she disappeared

The Chrysanthemum

{β˜› β’»β’Άβ“‚β’Ύβ“β“Ž ☚}

{β˜› β’½β’Ύβ“ˆβ“‰β“„β“‡β“Ž ☚}
Winter doesn't remember her birth parents. Her earliest memories are of her Grandparents, raising her to be the best she could be. Winter was friendly, she had plenty of friends, kids didn't care, after all, that she lived with ther Grandparents. In fact, they thought it was rather cool. Winter's Grandparents were doting, they lived in the quiet countryside of Chrysanthemum, a boring, uneventful life, but Winter wouldn't have it any other way. Everyday was the same, working on a farm meant getting up early and going to sleep late. Winter would help feed the chickens, milk the cows, and chase the foxes out of the hen house. It was a quiet life, a peaceful one, one Winter wouldn't trade for anything in the world.

Then one day, her Grandparents enrolled her in music classes. They thought Winter needed a hobby and had heard that musical theory would help her math grades. Her teacher was a kind old woman named Addison Briar who had taught famous musicians in the big city. Winter enjoyed her lessons, but she could never stick to one instrument. Every day, she would pick a new one. The harpsicord, the violin, the piano, the bass. Her heart became attuned to every instrument she touched and her music teacher urged her Grandparents to send her to the big city. It would mean selling their farm, it would mean leaving behind everything they ever knew and loved. They held off, wanting Winter to have a peaceful life and giving that stability to her for as long as possible.

Her grades began to jump up, she was doing well in school, in music, with her friends. A social butterfly that was never seen without people by her side. Then the day came, her Grandparents sold their farm for a hefty price, they could retire in the city and live an easy life while sending Winter to the large academy the Chrysanthemum City Center had for gifted students. She was eager to attend, with her cute new uniform and sparkling shoes. Winter was an instant hit, she made friends abound, who were attracted to her outsider accent and easy smile. She was happy with her new life, her Grandparents enjoying their easy life of playing games with their new friends and taking care of the dog they had brought with them.

A note was tapped to their door, a concert. At first, Winter didn't want to go, she didn't want to fall behind on her homework, but her friends convinced her and her Grandparents, having never been to a concert before, were intruiged. They all went together, Winter excited and nervous. They were sitting as a group when the bomb went off. Winter was separated from her Grandparents, she remembered the white hot light and heat from the bomb. She remembered praying, hoping for things to be okay. She remembered a shrine gate appearing before her and crossing through it, a gentle snow. When Winter awoke, she was in an unfamiliar place, a hospital, guarded by two government agents. She had caused a blizzard in the middle of spring, they thought she was working with the terrorists.

After being acquited of all charges, she was allowed to return to school, but Winter was now under their surveillance. She had a permanent limp now and walked with a cane. Winter was eager to return home, only to discover that her Grandparents had died. Her dog too, was gone, having been taken in by a shelter. Her belongings were all packed in several neat boxes. No one had bothered to tell Winter, in all of this, that her Grandparents were dead. There was another blizzard that day, in the middle of fall. Winter began to withdraw from everyone, she skipped classes, her grades began to slip, it didn't matter, her friends were all dead. She spent most of her time in the music room, her hands raw from practice. She would sleep with gloves, skipping school altogether to compete, to crush the competition, to try to feel alive again.

|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

"How does that feel?" Carter asked, arms crossed, waiting outside of the changing room. "It feels fine I guess," Winter replied, holding her armored cane. They were all suited up in their new battle suits, the toxic air outside a risk to their lungs. Winter had two oxygen tanks, in case she tried to be wreckless, they couldn't risk her lungs. If things went as schedule today, she would have the Doctor's head off of his shoulders before midnight. The thought of the war ending, of killing all the monsters and restoring order to the Chrysanthemum was exciting. "Winter, your card." Yuuki said nevrously, "We need to talk about it." She stopped walking, Carter looking back at her. "Go on ahead," she waved him away. He nodded, seeming to understand the situation and left. "What about it? What happened?" Yuuki hadn't said anything about her card in a while.

"Well, as you know, it's been changing a lot. It keeps switching back and forth, I don't want you taking any unecessary risks today. Alright?" She nodded, "I know. The others, they need me. I can't do something stupid and die." She leaned on her cane, glad everyone would be at this fight today. "We'll be stronger with all of the other Vassals there, so don't discount them." He reminded her, she nodded. "I know, I'm mstill just working support though." Winter reminded him, unless things had changed. She started walking, "I can't be later to the meeting, Oliver will get pissed." The others were already there, except Elise, who was on her way. There were snacks on the table, cookies and cakes catered by Oliver's personal chef, since he couldn't be bothered to eat peasant food from the kitchen.

Winter reached for a cookie, her stomach growling. There was some arguing for a few minutes before Elise finally arrived, Claude parking Elise beside Winter. "Welcome to the round table," she handed Elise a cookie. Elise had a plan, of course, she always had a plan. With that settled, the final operation would begin. "Are you sure you're ready?" Elise was quite strong, but they needed all of them in order to beat the Chrysanthemum. After all, they were still just children. They were children fighting a war for the adults. It was sickening, to be honest. They were all going to come out of this with some kind of trauma. Winter was certain that once a new government was built, they were all going to be mandated for some sort of mental health counseling.

She rose from the table, grasping her cane. "Let's get this over with," Ezra took the handles of Elise's wheelchair. They were on their way to the tunnel, at last one group. The ground beneath them still rumbled, the giant monster that was tunneling under them no doubt sensing the cluster of power. Carter led them to the entrance, no longer Weather Girls and Boys, but just Weather Kids, Winter supposed. "You're awfully quiet," Carter noted. "Just thoughtful," Winter replied. "It's nice to see everyone together, finally." Winter admitted, shrugging her shoulders.

"Be careful Siri, you're still not fully healed yet!" Mercedes grabbed her by the arm as she was about to slip on a ledge in the dark tunnels. Carter was leading the pack, a hand on the walls of the tunnel at all times to keep track of the monster. The rumbling was constant, and it was only thanks to Ezra that the cavern was not collapsing over their heads this very moment. "I-I'm okay! I'm doing better now!" Serenity had her arm up, a gentle glowing light emanating from an orb formed around her fist. She was walking near in step with Carter by the front, providing light for everyone else in the darkness under the city. She still had a limp, was it from when Ezra smashed her legs with stones after she protected Mercedes when she was trying to bring Elise's body in?

"Stay frosty, everyone. You never know what might happen." Oliver said, still acting as their leader while Elise kept an eye on her holo at all times to make sure they would know once they reached the destination. "Thank you for not making a fuss this time." Elise said to Ezra to pass the time. "Last time you were a little overprotective." Ezra frowned, rolling an eye. "The way I see it, the sooner this fight ends, the sooner I won't have to worry about keeping you and Winter safe." He still wore his wolfish grin but it was a little subdued now. The claws and fangs he once had behind his eyes were a bit dulled compared to how they once were. He was almost like a tamed wolf now, and Elise had become a little more unruly. "You do know she and I are stronger than you?" Ezra ran a hand through his hair in frustration. "Even so, you're both tiny! I'm big and strong, so it's only natural to be protective!"

"I'm a little big too." Carter mumbled from the front, though a bit stringier and lankier than Ezra, whose body was the most muscled of everyone here. "You're like a shrimp compared to me, kid." For as lanky as Carter was, Mercedes, oddly tall for a woman, was barely an inch above him. "So who's your favorite, Oliver?" Mercedes asked, a mocking snicker behind her words. "Of the girls, I mean, and I don't count!" Their mean spirited leader frowned distinctly at the question. This was all idle conversation to help them ignore the rumbling only getting closer and closer. A monster the size of an island? Hopefully the soldiers would put up a little bit of a fight to weaken it and not be entirely useless. "Win- I mean, ahem." Oliver coughed, clearing his throat. "Serenity is the most well-behaved, so she's the most agreeable."

Serenity shook her head, hiding a giggle. "You don't have to say that just to be nice, I know Winter's more of a catch than me. She's so small and cute." Serenity was average - not adorable like Winter, not tall and cool like Mercedes, and not elegant like Elise. Her biggest assets were the two on her chest, and that was the most she had to offer, if you wanted to ask what she thought. "Winter deserves better than someone who beat her up." Carter sneered, still taking the lead. "Not only did you beat her up, you also voted to desecrate her corpse." Oliver replied back with the viciousness of a knife. "In fact-"

Suddenly it was like an explosion. "We were moving too slowly." Elise chastised them all for talking too much as the walls crunpled around them. "It is right behind us." She glanced at her holo as they all began running, Ezra's grip tightening on the handles of her wheelchair. "Where are we? Are we at the barracks yet?" Ezra shouted, sweat on his brow. "Not yet... but this will have to do. Carter, create an opening to the surface, we will be buried alive if we remain here." Carter nodded, moving his arm to sweep aside the Earth over their heads when a deafening roar echoed in the tunnels. The ground below Elise and Ezra erupted as a claw burst out, so large it was the size of two trucks. Ezra grabbed Elise, pulling her back, Carter grabbing for Winter and yanking her to the side.

On one side of the claw, Oliver was panting, holding a bruised arm, Carter was still clinging to Winter's shoulder, and Ezra and Elise were staring between the gaps at Mercedes grasping at a panicked Serenity's hand. "You guys go, we'll try to hide and wait for it to pass then follow you guys up!" Mercedes shouted, pinching Serenity to try to snap her out of her fear. "Stay safe and stay alive." Oliver commanded. Carter gulped, finishing the opening as the dragon continued to burrow towards them, Ezra desperately trying to hold it back. The moon's light filled the tunnel as Carter created the opening. "It's open! We're right below Shining Street!" They were a block away from the barracks, would they be able to lead the monster there fast enough? "Then we should get moving." Ezra created a platform of stones to lift them up to the surface at once.

It was a beautiful night. The sun was barely peaking over the horizon. It would be daybreak soon, and the sky would blaze as the sun rose to greet it.

|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

The crash barely missed her. Almost instinctively, Winter put up a ball of ice around her, Carter grabbing her and adding a sand shield. When the vibrating stopped and the floor was no longer shaking, Winter opened her eyes, Carter hugging his body around her as though he could protect her from a giant monster. They were separated from the group, the tunnel having collapsed in the center. "Shit," they were so close too. "We have to keep going," Mercedes and Serenity agreed. They would go on without them, maybe Serenity and Mercedes could meet them there on the surface? That would require them to head back alone, through the underground. Hopefully they could make it. Still, it was a relief that none of them were dead.

Hopefully, after today, they would all still be alive. Winter's hands balled into fists, onward they went. This was it, the big fight. "It's just above us," Oliver confirmed. "We need to attract it here," they would have to wait, it could take hours. The sun was going to begin to rise soon. "If we all channel our elements, maybe it'll come faster?" Hopefully it had followed them and no tMercedes and Serenity. "That might work?" Carter nodded, seeming too eager to agree. He was walking closely to Winter, too close for comfort, in case he would have to "protect" her again. "Alright, Elise, what do you think?" Oliver wanted to know, since she was their strategist. They had their patches ready, just in case they would need them during the fight.

"On the count of three," Winter started, once they had Elise's approval. "One, two, three," she created a flurry with her snow, hoping that would be enough. She could sense the metal in the geound as well, but did not want to try and bring any metal up. "We should probably move to higher ground," Winter noted. "In case it comes up," they would need to move away from here as well, once the monster arrived so that they did not go down with the sink hole it would create. Winter wanted to eliminate this monster as soon as possible, considering it could swallow them all hole. The more humans it ate, the more powerful it would become. That could be troublesome later on, when they at last faced it themselves, but they could save that for later.

The ground began to rumble once more. "Shit, it's here." Ezra grabbed the handles to Elise's wheelchair, Carter shifting sand beneath them to bring them to higher ground. They watched from the sky, as the sun rose and the beast broke the surface, slapping itself against the city, hitting the Chrysanthemum Government Building. It was like pouring water on an ant hill, watching the building erupt into action. Winter had little satisfaction, but she knew her time would come. Soon, she would crush the windpipe of the man who made her life hell with her own two hands. Soon, she would dismantle the same government that had made her think she was the thing that was wrong and not society.

Winter gave the signal and Elise nodded, all of their powers activating at once. There was a sudden and vicious roar all around them, and loud sounds of something huge burrowing closer. It nearly killed them, it was going to make another pass now. "It's coming closer, I can feel it!" Carter yelped, glancing back to check on Mercedes and Serenity but they were too far away now to see. Hopefully they would be able to meet up with them once the coast was clear. "Winter is right, we should be moving." They needed to get to the surface and bring the dragon monster up following their scents. Carter finished the opening tunnel, the sky visible in clear view. "Then let's go!" Ezra flew them up using rock platforms and they rose to the sky, the dragon bursting up from behind.

"Right there, take us there." Elise pointed with her finger, the barracks where the soldiers were was right on the way. "We must make the soldiers busy dealing with the dragon monster." Ezra flew them towards the goal. The beast surged, moving with such momentum it went right past the barracks towards the Government Building. Soldiers swarmed out, their guns blazing as the two forces began battle. "What's the plan now, Elise?" Oliver asked, looking at her. "We could go back to look for Mercedes and Serenity to make sure that they're safe." Elise shook her head, the black eagle resolute in her decision. "They will be fine. We must take advantage of the chaos now and infiltrate the Government Building." Right now they were safe, but that would not last forever. "According to Mercedes's information, the Government Building has anti-air cannons set to shoot anyone approaching from the sky." Oliver read his notes, collating the information Mercedes offered in return for letting her rejoin the team.

Automated cannons to shoot unidentified flying objects. That would certainly put a hamper into affairs. "Let us fly closer so we can see the range on those cannons." Ezra nodded, directing the rocks towards the building. Right on the rooftop they could see the cannons. How far could they shoot? How powerful would they be? Elise did not know, but there was only one way to find out. The roar of the dragon was deafening, Elise could almost see the shockwaves but they needed to be focused. "Move us closer, we need to see what the safe range is." Oliver ordered, so Ezra did so, inching them ever closer to the cannon's range. Even as they approached, they did not fire.

"Get ready to dodge. Winter, have the ice shield ready to deploy at any moment." Suddenly an energy blast shot from the corner cannon, barely grazing the rock as Ezra jerked it to the side in reflex. Another one shot out, singing the top of Oliver's hair. "It has a range of eighty feet!" Carter declared, eyeballing the distance. "Winter, can you attack at long range-" As she made the order, the cannon stopped firing. More than that, a window opened, as if inviting them. "...Take us to the window, but be ready for a trap."

As they floated into the building through the window to the cannon control room, they were greeted with two unconscious guards and a timid Timothy Green with a tazer in his hands. "I - I saw you guys coming, so I wanted to help!" The pianist looked afraid, as if he could not believe he was doing this. "But they killed everyone! I had to do something!" Elise gave him a smile of approval. "You did well. Hide and stay safe." They did not have Mercedes, so they did not have their walking map. "Do you know where the Doctor's room is?" Oliver asked, looking at the surprise ally.

Timothy opened mup the door for them, a friend on the inside, or perhaps an insidious betrayel to come. Winter wasn't going to overthink this, they needed the assistance, after all, having lost Mercedes. "We should split up," Carter suggested. "No, we should stay together." Winter glanced at Elise, "Splitting up is exactly what they would want us to do. Get us separate so they can take down each of us one by one. We're stronger together." Therefore, they needed to stay together. "Everyone, make sure your holos are working in case we get separated." Oliver ordered, a good idea. Who knows what sort of traps were laying beyond this area. Winter would not put it past the Doc to lay down traps that could possibly kill them all. After all, his fragile hold on power was continuing to slip.

Winter had been dreaming of this day, she had been waiting for it excitedly. The day she would get to see that man dethroned. He had made her life a living hell and now it was her turn to return the favor. "Let's go," Timothy led the way, taking them through the side passages he had discovered, the little used ones. It felt strange to Winter, she had lived here most of her life and yet she had rarely been through these places. Her time had been spent in three rooms on three floors. Carter placed a hand on her arm suddenly, seeming concerned. "Hey, are you okay?" He asked suddenly. Winter nodded, "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" She inquired, blinking dumbly. "Because you're shaking," she looked at her hands, realizing that they were trembling.

How had she not noticed? Winter wasn't sure. "I'm fine," she reiterated, albeit a bit harshly. Carter nodded, "Alright, I'm here if you need me." Winter rolled her eyes, he was still trying to get close to her. Winter wasn't sure wwhy, considering she had made her feelings very apparent. "In here is the war room." Timothy pointed, if it was war room, it meant that not only would Doc be in there, but the President as well. "At the ready," Oliver counted down as he tapped into the finger pad, they needed clearance to enter. "Three..." he began to mouth," Winter's hands balled into fists. "Two," they all seemed tense in anticipation. "One," this was it, the door opened, revealing a room full of important faces, faces Winter recognized both from her time here, in the Chrysanthemum Government Building, and from watching Broadcasts over Stella's shoulder.

"Get them!" The President rose, pointing. Almost instantly, there was a rush towards them. "Spirit armor, final form." Winter transformed quickly, putting up a wall of ice three inches thick to protect them from a round of bullets. "Everyone, suit up!" Oliver yelled as they were rushed. "We need to go in and get them before they can get us or get away!" Winter retorted over the din. "Go after them!" Oliver gave the order, pointing. Winter swung her staff, taking out the two soldiers shooting at them. "Oh no you don't!" Winter was not going to let the Doctor get away. He was trying to take an alternate exit with the President. "You won't get away, not again." Winter blocked their path, icing over their escape. "You can't do this Winter, I made you. You can't betray me, I'm practically your Father." The Doctor laughed, pulling a weapon from his coat. "You are nothing to me." She hissed, "Even human is too good of a word for the kind of scrum you are."

As Ezra gripped the handles, Elise sneered at her prey before her, his leg stuck under a chunk of rock. The other soldiers were knocked out or having their legs broken by Oliver, while Carter hoarded the guns in his arms to make sure they could no longer fight back. "Don't kill them if you can help it." Mercedes asked them before. "The Doctor put chips in them, they're not doing this of their own wills anymore." While Elise did not particularly care how many died as a result of the dragon she let loose in the city, it seemd the others were holding back their attacks. "The Doctor belongs to you. Do not make the same mistake he did." Elise said calmly to Winter before turning to glance at the President, still looking calmly back at her.

"So you're alive I see. You owe me your life, I let you live on purpose." The Doctor almost looked desperate as he tried to wheel himself to safety but the exits were already sealed, encased by a thick layer of unforgiving ice. "Don't nobles repay their debts, Miss Hresvelg?" Elise gave him a smoldering stare. "If I owe anyone my life it is Winter, and I will pay that debt by allowing her the chance to perform the execution." No longer interested in the Doctor she directed her ruby eyes at the President, who seemed almost unaffected by all of this. "Before you die, President, do you have any last words? Surely you have a reason for sitting on your throne this whole time and not lifting a hand to help anyone." Was this supposed to be personal? For some reason it felt all of those old grudges meant nothing now. "What was the reward for sacrificing your humanity?"

The President sighed, shaking his head. His bodyguards were downed, rocks shattering their backs as Ezra had no mercy. He kept them alive, but only just barely so. "Humans are all very weak." He said with a tiny smile, one that had no regrets or remorse. "You know it yourself, Miss Hresvelg. All the cowards who would not bat an eye when seeing someone bullied in front of their faces. Those who stay silent to protect their careers when seeing their bosses embezzling money from charity drives. A poor child being groomed and abused and not a single witness trying to save her. Nobles scheming in their CEO Offices, how to steal power from my throne."

"Frankly, I was disappointed. So many weak humans, untalented, unmotivated to strengthen themselves or improve. Unable to rise up to change an oppressive regime. Sitting in fear, begging for a hero to save them."

Ezra rolled his eyes, growling. "He's talking drivel. Don't listen to him, he's just trying to save his skin." Elise glanced up at him then focused her eyes back on her target. "The President is not someone who would act so haphazardly." She was taught to give a man like this respect. Jeralt always considered him a gambling man - one who was not afraid to put it all on the betting table if it meant something. "The Doctor approached me, and offered to make a bet. He would present a challenge to humanity, and he would win if our city fell. If the citizens grew the will to fight and became strong enough to defeat the Doctor's challenge, then I would win the bet." He smiled at her then in that awful smug way. "Seeing you and the other Vassals here, it is clear that there are still those strong enough to rise to the challenge."

"My wonderful and strong citizens, my life belongs to you to do with as you wish." The President lowered his head, submitting to Elise's judgment. She sighed, already tired of this game. "The original plan was to drag you out in front of the people you betrayed and give you a public execution for your betrayal. But with how smug you are, it is clear even if I did that, you would only be satisfied that your decision was justified." Her face was expressionless, her hand reaching towards him. Even now he was smiling. "I will not give you the satisfaction of seeing us triumph over the Doctor." She drained his body of liquid until he was a withered dry shell, all the life sucked from him.

Suddenly their holos began piping up. "You guys! Something weird's happening!" Mercedes's voice blared to them in panic. "The monsters are going crazy, they're all coming right towards you guys! The giant dragon's hurt, but the military wasn't able to stop it!" The black eagle could faintly hear a sqeak of terror from Serenity. "Siri and I will try to take as many people to safety as we can, then meet up to help fight!" Oliver slowly turned towards the Doctor, a vicious glare in his eyes. "What did you do?" The Doctor shrugged, as if unafraid of Winter's execution desires. "They know I am in danger, so they're going to come rescue me now." There was not much time, if Winter wanted to finish off the Doctor, this was her only chance. "But you'd best be careful. They might get even angrier if you kill me. You don't have Merlin anymore, will you kids be able to win against the greatest and most powerful of monsters?"

"All you have to do is let me live, and I'll tell them to let you all escape to live out your pitiful lives."

"You didn't let her live," Winter hissed. She wasn't going to reveal her secrets, but her sword was poised at his throat. She had him cornered. Now he wanted to be allowed to live, of course. Given the chance, he would have killed them all right now. "I hate you," Winter hissed. "You made my life hell and you clearly don't regret it. Was it fun?" She asked, not sure if she wanted the answer to that. "Did you enjoy watching me struggle? Did you enjoy watching me cry?" There was a strange expression on the Doc's face. "It pained my heart to do what I had to, but the sacrifice of one is worth that of many." He grinned and WInter knew he hadn't an ounce of regret. The sacrifice of one. One. Her. "You killed me and everyday under your thumb was like dying again." Her sword touched his throat.

Outside, the monsters suddenly began to rage. "What's going on?" Winter asked, not taking her eyes off of the snake in front of her. According to Mercedes, the monsters were on their way here. The Doctor was laughing hysterically now. If they killed him, they wouldn't be able to fight the monsters. Winter smiled, which stopped his laughing almost instantly. "You have no idea what I had to face in the Boundary. You think monsters are going to scare me?" She leaned in closer, "As far as I'm concerned, you're the worst monster of them all." She slit his throat, blood gushing, his corpse freezing. He fell to the ground, a chunk of solid ice. Winter glared at his beheaded corpse, her sword falling from her hand as she stepped back, collapsing to her knees.

She did it, he was dead. The ground was rumbling, there was no time to celebrate. Carter pulled her to her feet. "You can rest after," he said as the ground broke beneath them. "Hang on!" Ezra yelled, a rock slamming into their bodies to prevent them from falling. "Ugh," Winter rolled over, just narrowly dodging a tentacle. "Spirit staff!" Her staff manifested in her hands, she dodged another blow, rolling and parrying. "Oliver, behind you!" He turned, blasting flames through the tunnel, the fire dying out and leaving them in total darkness. Light came from up above, Serenity. "Ezra, float us up there." Oliver ordered. They were stuck in a half-collapsed building. "Follow the light!" Serenity called down, her voice worried. "Quickly!" Ezra floated them up slowly, avoiding obstacles. Winter fought off attacks every so often, along with Carter, and Oliver. "Elise, how are you holding up?" Winter asked.

They were at the top now, Serenity and Mercedes in clear view. The sky had turned red, it seemed it was finally time to take on the boss. "We'll need all the man-power we can get." Winter turned towards Mercedes, "Is your Dad alive? Can he organize troops? We'll need explosives, a lot of them." The Monsters could have thick skin, but once they were wounded, they went down easily. "If we're all gathered in one place, they'll concentrate their forces on us." Winter had fought the monsters the longest, Ezra second, and Elise third. "The monsters don't have cohesive thoughts, they can't organize themselves, so we'll have an advantage."

Winter did what she needed to do, and the Doctor's life was vanquished. No one disagreed with her decision, letting the Doctor live would make all of their sacrifices this far meaningless. There was no time to rest, now they needed to get ready for the final fight. "Timothy, you should go hide. Is there a shelter to stay hidden in?" Oliver asked, looking back at the freckled boy that had helped them. He nodded, still afraid but also relieved that at least the enemies were defeated. "Y-yes, I'll go! Good luck, and please don't die!" He dashed off, scampering down the hall. Ezra floated them up as the floor broke around them. "Look." Elise pointed at the distance, a dragon so large you could not even see the top of it from here. One leg was the size of a whole city block. Winter asked how she was. "I am okay. If I can find a weakness..." How were they going to fight something of this size? Was there a way for them to come out victorious?

It was awe-inspiring. It towered so far above them, even taller than the highest skyscraper on the Chrysanthemum's cityscape. All the smaller monsters were like insects compared to this one. They grouped up with Mercedes and Serenity, the seven surviving Vassals finally reunited. "El, do you have a plan for this one?" Ezra asked, still holding tight to her wheelchair as he gazed at the beast, lumbering slowly towards them. "It is big and slow." Elise said with a distinct frown. Winter was asking about the rest of the soldiers. The army was supposed to have tried to fight this monster, where were they now? "Mercy and I moved as many as we could to safety underground." Serenity whimpered, trembling at the sight. Each step was like an earthquake, rumbling the entire city with the impact. Against the blaring sunrise, it seemed this was their final battle to save the city. "The survivors... none of them are in any condition to fight." Mercedes grit her teeth. "We have to kill it here, or it'll kill everyone."

How was a monster this large burrowing beneath the city this entire time? It let out a roar, deafening and overpowering, even scaring the smalelr monsters as they tried to scurry away from it's huge lumbering feet. It swung at them, a claw the size of a supermarket, and even Oliver's wall of fire was not enough to protect them. Ezra pushed the wheelchair then helped everyone weave out of the way of the attack. "If we get hit once it's over." Carter muttered, a dark look on his face. "Elise? Do you have a plan to stop this?" Ezra asked again, helping fight off some of the smaller monsters as they rushed towards them. "Go for the eyes. If we blind it it will be harder for it to attack us." The black eagle advised, trying to hide the shaking in her voice. Right now they needed her to be calm and in control, she could not let the mask slip now. "When it is blinded, we must break the joints and tendons a much as we can to make it impossible for the mosnter to move."

It was huge, but that simply meant they had a massive target to aim at. "Some of the armor on its stomach is weakened and bloody. The military aimed their attacks at the heart." It let out another roar, a stream of flames shooting out from it's mouth. The fire caught on, emblazening up the streets, the buildings, a sea of fire all across the city. Elise waved her arm to summon the rain to try and hold back the embers. "Ezra, you're in charge of moving us around. Don't let us get hit, you're our mobility. First, take us to the eyes." Oliver gave out the orders, ready to enact Elise's plan. "Everyone, get your strongest attacks ready. As long as we can destroy the eyes, the rest of the plan will be a cinch." The rock platform they stood on began to rise, dodging through the claws and the flames to reach the monster's eye-level, nearly as high as the clouds. It would be hard to breathe with the air so thin but they had no choice but to succeed.

Winter took one look at the dragon and she knew, she just knew, that this would be their last fight. What did that mean? She wasn't sure, but it was in the pit of her stomach. "This is it," Yuuki said softly, confirming her thoughts. "The final boss," Zoku added on her other side. They looked up in awe at the dragon. Winter shook her head, shaking herself out of her reverie. This was not going to be her final moment on earth, not spent cowering in the face of adversity. She had come this far. "I'm going to live," Winter's hands balled into her fists. She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. The air here was toxic, the monsters had made it difficult to breathe. "Let's do this," Elise told them to target the eyes. Winter was still in her spirit armor, the others having suited up.

"If we kill this one, the smaller monsters will follow suit." She could see it in their eyes, they were being controlled by this one. Did the Doc truly have some semblence of control over it? Or had that merely been a bluff? Elise told them to target the eyes, if they could blind it, they would win. "Everyone, go!" Oliver ordered. Winter tossed an ice pick, aiming it at the monster's eyes. At the same moments, Serenity, Carter, and Mercedes launched their attacks. They did their best, trying to blind the monster completely. It gave a great roar and heaved on its hind legs, attempting to fly higher. Winter bent the metal of the fallen building around them, twisting it around the creature's back half. It was massive and the effort it took to perform such a feat stole the breath from her lungs. "Winter!" Carter grabbed her, keeping her from falling off the side of the boulder.

"I'm fine," she wobbled. "We have to focus on taking that thing down," it swiped a massive arm at them, Ezra barely dodging it. Mercedes tried to focus the wind around it, creating a force equal to that of a tornado, but it didn't seem to effect it. Oliver slashed at it with fire, all of them continuing to aim for the eyes. Winter aimed ice, using all of her energy. The beast suddenly reared its head, breaking free of the restraints and taking to the air again. "Shit," they had managed to blind it, it was flying recklessly, in danger of falling and hurting more people. "This is it!" Oliver announced, knowing that they would be able to take it down at last. "Everyone get ready, Elise, Ezra, you too!" He barked, pointing upwards, as though they couldn't see it.

Winter braced herself, the monster beginning to fall. They aimed at it, blasting, hoping, praying, as the monster bore down on them. Winter used both ice and metal, launcing attack after attack until she felt dizzy and out of breath. It swung its massive tail, the dragon nearly hitting them. It suddenly burst into ash, raining down on them like some sort of deadly snow. Winter fell to her knees, an exhausted sigh of relief coming from her. The other monsters began to pop like party balloons, one by one, until they had all but been eliminated. "It's over," finally, it was over. The Doctor was dead, the President gone. All that was left? Well, Winter wasn't sure.

It took far too long but with all of their effort, they managed to take down the largest of the dragons. Was it fear? Was it panic? For whatever reason, all of the lesser monsters dispersed alongside the dragon, fading away as if they never existed in the first place. Ezra grinned, the first to raise his fist in victory. "Whoo! We did it, we really did it!" He reached for his mask, as if tired of wearing it when Elise pulled his arm back. "Be careful, we do not know if it is still toxic for us to breathe." If Ezra got himself hurt at the very end by breathing in toxic air, would that not be the least funny joke in the world? "What do we do now?" Serenity squeaked, still rubbing at her bleeding arm. It was deep, but she would live though it would leave an ugly scar.

"Obviously we celebrate." Ezra said, looking at them as if they had lost their minds. "You agree with me, don't you, brat princess?" Elise sighed, frowning. "Yes, but not yet. We should take care of business first. There are those back at the base still awaiting news of our victory." Oliver nodded, groaning. "There's still a lot we have to do before we can really rest, but for now, the fight is over." There were still many questions left as Ezra flew them back to the Government Building. Who would lead the Chrysanthemum? Who would they put in charge? Was there anyone left that they could trust? That was not Elise's business though, that was for Oliver to figure out. She would have to put her hand back into Hresvelg affairs and help Claude rebuild their fortune and influence. Perhaps she could even help him find a wife to continue the bloodline.

"We are the Vassals." Oliver spoke into the large intercom that echoed through the entire city. All the citizens still alive would hear these words. "We took the President and Doctor's lives, and we have ended the Apocalypse." He began to speak about beginning a new election supervised by the surviving Slithers to determine the new leader. "But to become the new President, you'll need the approval of all the Vassals. Furthermore, from now on, us Vassals answer to no one but our own authority. We will live free, and anyone who tries to use us again will meet the same fate as the President and the Doctor." Elise was already messaging Claude about the victory, sharing a tired smile with Winter. When would Winter go look for her father? The black eagle first wanted to help her regain her family's farm first, or else risk the city starving. "We will reward those who are kind with kindness, and those with bad intentions with exactly what you deserve." Oliver finished his speech. After this, no one would have the bravery or stupidity to try and hurt them again.

After they finished their business at the Government Building they returned to the Slithers for now to decide their next moves. "There's a lot to do." Mercedes said, still not letting herself celebrate even as Ezra and Serenity began baking celebration cake for their victory. "The scientists still don't know how to clean the air fully yet." Former workers under the President such as scientists and public officials had already reached out, and Oliver assigned Mercedes and himself to coordinate them for the time being. "Just as you asked, I managed to track down the stockholders of the Happy Smiles Produce." Claude said, he had been busy during the final battle. "Most of them are dead, and the rest were happy to sell to the Hresvelg name. We can now absorb the company if we'd like." He grinned, looking over at Winter. "Your funds are still frozen, but we will restore them once the banks begin operation again." Elise said calmly, her ruby eyes glinting with exhaustion as Ezra spilt batter on the floor in the corner of her eye. "The company will be back under your name, if you'd still want it?" She would trust that Winter would be able to handle the logistics to make sure green fresh goods return to the Chrysanthemum's markets.

|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

Winter fell to her knees, relief overcoming her. It was over, at long last. She felt strange, suddenly realizing that the vassals no longer had a true purpose. Everything they had fought so long and hard for was suddenly accomplished, it was over. Oliver pulled Winter to her feet. "Have more respect than that," he directed, they were on their way back now. They needed to count their dead and wounded, inform families, and do their best to rebuild. "Hard to believe we actually did it," Serenity admired, holding her arm. Oliver made all sorts of announcements, declaring that any presidential candidate had to be run through them. WInter wasn't sure about that, she didn't want power, she just wanted to get rid of the corrupt system the Chrysanthemum had been operating underneath.

They returned to the Slither's base. Winter ripped off her mask, breathing in the air. She wanted to do nothing more than shower, change, and eat. Claude met them at the door, he was smiling. "I'd like the company," Winter admitted. Could she run an entire produce farm? It seemed that would be her next big adventure. "My Grandparents would have wanted me to keep it going, I think." They had only sold the farm so that they could move to the city for Winter's benefit, now, she would move back to the farm to finish what they had started. It was an exciting thought, but Winter knew that it meant she would have to live far apart from everyone else, which for some reason, made a pit of dread settle in her stomach.

The next few days were spent recovering. The monsters had disappeared from the city, just as they had expected them to. People were already beginning to rebuild what had been taken down. Winter was helping Oliver when Elise wasn't, since Elise still needed plenty of rest. No one wanted to take the place of the President and since they were all kids, it wasn't exactly like the Vassals could replace the corrupt leadership. Mercedes was the only adult among them, having just turned 18 and she wasn't exactly qualified to lead the city. Winter was leaning against a railing on the roof when Ezra found her, watching the sunset. "What are you doing out here alone?" He asked, handing her a can of soda. Winter took it, popping the tab. "Just thinking," she replied. "Are you really gonna move away from the city?" He asked, taking a sip of his own drink. "Just to the outter city limits, only two hours by bus."

"Still, it doesn't sit right with me." Ezra grumbled, crushing his can in his fist. "I'll be fine, besides, nothing is stopping you from visiting." Winter reminded him, prodding him in the side with a finger. He stiffened, then shook his head. "I know, but... you'll be so far." If this was an attempt to convince her to stay, it was rather lame. Winter rolled her eyes and turned back towards the sunset. They were underneath the protective dome of the Slither's base, so the air was fine to breathe. "There are just some things that I need to do, but if you ever want to visit, I'll have plenty of room for guests." She finished her soda, tossing the can up into the air and shooting it with an ice bullet from her finger.

"And it's not like we won't be friends anymore, just because I'm going somewhere a little far away." She pointed out. "You're right, but I still don't like it." Winter shook her head, "You have to stay here and take care of Elise, remember?" She asked, hands on hips. "I know," Ezra grunted, kicking at invisible dirt. Winter's holo phone began to buzz. "Ah, it's the Senior Manager of Happy Farms. I've gotta take this," she turned away, but Ezra remained on the roof, arms crossed.

"To be frank, we're concerned, Miss Elise." In the boardroom the investors and Board of Directors were sitting at a table, their faces on the holos, with Elise sitting at the head. She sighed, dressed to the nines as she sat in her wheelchair. This wasn't a real boardroom, nor was it in persno. They were all communicating with their holos from wherever they were hidden because the scientist team still had not cleaned the toxins out of the air yet. Elise knew all of these faces though, these semi-wealthy-but-not-noble businessmen, with anxiety on their faces. "Then please, Mr. Liu, tell me your concerns." Mr. Liu gulped, looking down at his papers before turning his gaze back to her, sweat on his brow. "Most of the more experienced industry leaders and shareholders were executed by the Doctor. As it stands, we don't have the funds or resources to continue operating business, especially with your father being one of the victims."

So they were going to try to take control of Black Wing Studios, the company her father founded and created that lead the film industry for decades. They wanted to take control, ousting power from the Hresvelg family and into their own greedy hands, using the current situation as justification for their actions. It really was cowardly, but what could you expect? They simply did not understand who they were dealing with. Claude smiled at the other end, looking calm despite it all. He was thinking along the same lines, wasn't he? "So do tell me, what is your suggestion? Board members, what have you all voted on?" They wanted to have this meeting because they had a decision that they wanted to inform the Hresvelg siblings about.

Mr. Liu, their spokesmen, cleared his throat and began to speak. "We love this company and this industry just as much as anyone else. Lord Hresvelg and Miss Elise, we beleive that for the sake of this company's longterm survival, the two of you temporarily resign from your roles and allow us elders to show you how to run a company." He looked almost proud of himself as he finished speaking. "For your father's legacy, please resign and let us protect what he left behind." They were pleading to Claude, looking at him, as he had a reputation of being fair-minded and principled for his age. "I believe that that is a little unreasonable to say the least." Claude said with an easy charming smile. "My sister and I were not given proper notice of this vote before it took place, so it is null and invalid. Please, with proper written notice, would you mind redoing the vote?"

There was tension between them. Elise remained silent, watching. Maybe Claude would be able to handle this on his own after all. "Thats a little ridiculous, we already had multiple discussions about the matter ourselves!" Mr. Liu piped up. "Two children cannot be the leaders of this company!" Claude sighed, seeming almost disappointed. "So you two insist on ousting us from the company?" He almost pitied them with his smile. Mr. Liu gulped, but with the support of the other board members, nodded again. "You realy should have quit while you were ahead." Claude shook his head and gestured for Elise, whose eyes gleamed red. "Mr. Liu, I have on good evidence that you and a good number of our Board Members were sending funds to the Doctor and cooperating with him. Partly due to your support, this apocalypse wa allowed to happen." She drew up the files that she hacked to obtained, watching their faces become ashen with fear.

"I wonder what sort of reaction the public would have if they realized who else they could blame for all of these deaths?"

Claude laughed as he wheeled Elise out of the meeting room after securing their fear and loyalty. "It looks like we protected father's dream. He always wanted us to work together to keep the company going." Claude said, smiling a little sadly. It seemed that he would not be able to pursue his dream in clothing design now that he was thrust to the head of the company. "I'll have to make contracts with talented filmmakers to work for us under our name now that father's gone." Elise looked up at him, shaking her head. "We can share the load as Co-CEOs. You may be the official Lord Hresvelg, but you can pass some of the paperwork to me." She smiled warmly, a fond look in her eye. He frowned a little. "But won't you be busy with acting? Wasn't that your dream?"

"Silly. We will both chase our dreams while working together to keep father's legacy alive." They were both geniuses, so they would be able to juggle the workload. "So I will be expecting wonderful costumes to show off on the big screen, brother." He beamed then, patting her head. He had some business to do at the factory, so he left her where a fight suddenly happened. "I want to go help Winter on the farm, I even asked for her permission!" Serenity whined as Mercedes took her by the arm. "But I thought you were ging to stay here with me and work with the soldiers and security?" Mercedes was put to help coordinate the soldiers to help bring order back to the city with her taking the position as a part of the security team.

Serenity however wanted to leave the big city behind. "And Carter already has everything packed to go too, so why can't I also help out?" Serenity's family were killed by the Doctor early on during the Apocalypse, her mother, father, and all of her little sisters were found in the mass graves piled outside the city. When the search teams found the mass graves, Serenity had cried for nearly the entire week, only coming out of her room to eat. With Mercedes being straight as a fiddle and oblivious to Serenity's love, that was yet another reason why she wanted to leave the big city behind. "I have to take care of you! You can hardly look after yourself!" Mercedes snapped, furrowing her eyebrows.

Serenity shook her head, her lavender hair looking almost washed out, having lost its vibrant hue. "I- Winter was able to grow strong, I want a chance to be independent too!" Did they even notice the black eagle was listening in? Not that it was her business, but this was a little loud. "Serenity helped end the apocalypse. I believe she has the right to choose her destiny." She said softly before wheeling herself away. She had something to talk to Winter about, after all. She needed to decide a date to go search for Winter's father, and for answers.

Winter was putting her leg on when there came a knock at the door. "Oh, it's you." Julian smiled, his brow twitching in slight annoyance. "Winter, you didn't come for your exam." Ah, right, she had forgotten about that. "Come on," Julian nudged her towards the office. She sighed, rolling her eyes and following him, aware that she had no choice in the matter. These days, Winter was almost always busy with someone or something. It seemed like everyone demanded her time or presence, not that she was important or anything. She followed Julian out the door and to the office, where he had everything set up already. Winter hopped onto the table, no longer needing a cane to walk. "You're spritely," Julian said as he wiggled her fake off.

He inspected the area around the wound, the skin graft healing nicely. "Your leg looks great, don't forget your next appointment." Winter nodded, putting her leg back on and sliding off of the table. "I know, I'll be in the city then anyway." Winter waved him off, making a note on her holo phone of her next appointment and time. There was hardly any pain anymore when she walked on her prosthetic, which was nice. Winter stopped in the hall, seeing the other girls outside, arguing. "What are you all doing here?" She inquired, wondering what they were up to. Was this a spontaneous gathering? Or was there a meeting Winter didn't know about? Serenity ran to hide behind her, grabbing her shoulders, as though the much shorter Winter could protect her.

"Mercedes doesn't want me to go to the farm with you." Winter blinked in confusion, "Why not?" Mercedes had already made it clear that she did not have romantic feelings for Serenity. Mercedes was also now glaring at Winter as though this was her fault. Winter glanced at Elise, wondering what to do. "I'm an adult Mercy, I'm allowed to go off and do my own thing!" Serenity argued, which was true. It had been almost a year since Winter had met them all. Crazy, how fast time flew. She was almost 17 now. Which must mean that Elise too, was nearly 17 years of age. "I have no problems with Serenity coming to help me for a while," Winter remained calm in her affirmation. "She's welcome to stay for however long she wants." Mercedes glared, "She needs to stay here with me, where I can protect her."

"Why?" Winter replied, which made Mercedes take a step back. "You realize Carter and I will both be there? It'll be plenty safe." Winter yawned "And Elise will come visit often too." She pointed out, knowing that Elise was probably wanting to talk about something. "I can't get in the way of whatever this is though, so Elise and I are gonna go into my room while you two work this out." Winter opened the door to her room, leading Elise inside. "How did the meeting go?" She asked, kicking off her shoes and sitting down on her bed. "I probably don't even have to ask, knowing you." Elise and Claude probably got the outcome they desired.

While Elise was simply trying to enjoy reading a novel on her holo, Mercedes and Serenity continued having their spat in the hallway. It was clear that Mercedes was reluctant to part with her friend. Did she feel guilty for being unable to protect Serenity's family? Perhaps it was something of that nature. Still, regardless of that, Serenity still wanted a fresh start in a new environment, away from the painful memories of the Chrysanthemum. To put it frankly, the black eagle thought Mercedes was inadvertantly hurting Serenity by wanting to keep her close. So she spoke up, trying to give Serenity a little bit of support, and the lavender haired girl whose smile was once able to light up the room like the sun, gave her an exhausted, almost teary smile back.

Winter arrived then, looking steadier and steadier on her prosthetic leg each and every day, always willing to say her piece and give her opinion. It turned out, as expected, Winter agreed with Elise and Serenity on the matter. It was time for Serenity to get some independence and grow into her own woman, instead of an attachment clinging to Mercedes. Winter officially gave Serenity permission to join her on the farm, just like Carter was going to. The boy with sand powers did not have any particular ties holding him down, so it was easy for him to make the decision to move to the farms and work to bring food to the people of the Chrysanthemum. "Winter is the strongest of us. I am fairly sure there is no safer place to be than at Winter's side." Elise said at last, trying to put an end to the conversation. They needed to appear as a united front so the populace would not look at any of them as a weak link.

Leaving the childhood friends behind, it seemed Winter was ready to have her private conversation with Elise. Together they made it to Winter's room, ready to begin discussion. Winter wanted to know how the meeting went. "Very well. Claude attempted to give the corrupt shareholders an easy way out, but they would not take it." She shrugged a little in a graceful movement of her shoulder. "So I was allowed to put on a little bit of a threat to keep them in line. Claude and I were able to maintain control over the company." Together they would protect father's legacy and pursue their dreams. It would be a lot of work, but she was confident this was the best path forward for them now.

"There is still one step we need before you have full closure." The sooner they resolved this, the sooner they would have peace of mind. "While we are waiting for the scientists to find a solution for the toxic air, this may be our only opportunity in the near future." There was someone that they needed to find and question. "I am willing to go with you, if you are willing to have me. Your father must be found." With the disaster over, they saw their Heirs less and less now. Maybe it was because they were no longer as needed anymore. "Yuuki and Ame are likely to miss us as well." If only they could invite Ezra too, then it could be just like old times again.

Winter led Elise to her room, kicking off her shoes and laying down on her bed beside where Elise had parked her wheelchair. The meeting went well, she was glad to hear that. Winter knew that Elise would get what she wanted in the end, she was strong like that. Winter on the other hand, was barely competant when it came to business. She had to go through a dizzying amount of paperwork and finances that made her want to scream. In any case, she thought hiring an accountant to take care of that stuff might be in the near future. For now, Winter could handle it. She wasn't dumb, but she did not have the patience for a mountain of papers. "I'm glad it all worked out, I'm sure Claude is happy to keep the company in the family." It was Jeralt's business, after all.

Winter nodded, there was one last adventure and Winter was not quite sure how long it was going to take. "This is probably the best opportunity to go." She played with the plush blanket on her bed. "If you want to come, I won't stop you." Winter decided, "Although I don't know how long I'll be gone, or if I'll even find him." Yuuki and Zoku had promised that they would be guiding Winter on this journey. "You can always turn back too, if you ever want to go home." There were always other people that could run the farm in her proxxy, like Serenity and Carter. Winter wasn't exactly important to that process. Hopefully the farm was not effected by the toxic air, as it was just outside the city. "If we told the others, they would probably demand to come too." Winter scratched at her temple, which was exactly why she hadn't told them.

Truth be told, Winter wanted to keep the party as small as possible. She wanted to find her Dad, confirm her lineage, and then come back. Of course, nothing in the Boundary was ever so simple. "I would be prepared to be gone at least three months," because time in the Boundary was not linear. Sometimes a day on earth was a week in the Boundary. Other times, an hour in the Boundary was a week on earth. It was all confusing and it was a science that Winter did not understand, but it also wasn't her job to figure it out. "We can't really pack anything though," preparation would not be necessary. It would just be their bodies that went with them. They would probably stop in the small town where they could get supplies, then continue on from there.

"Hopefully your legs will work in there and I'll have both of mine." That would be nice, Winter thought. To have two working legs and not one missing one. It wasn't that she resented giving up her leg, because she didn't and she would do it again in a heartbeat, Winter was just worried about showing up in the Boundary and having only one functional leg. It would be awkward to have to hobble all the way to the town. "If not, I guess we'll use our powers to help us get to the town." Winter scratched her cheek in thought. "Anyway, I think we should leave tomorrow or the next day. I already told Julian my plans, so he's gonna watch my body for me." Just in case anything happened while Winter was asleep.

In Winter's room, the two sisters-not-by-blood were making their plan, discussing the specifics about the plot to re-enter the boundary and search for Winter's father. They needed answers, and with the conflict all but over, now was the perfect time to search for those answers that Elise sought for all this time. Why did all of this happen? What was the Doctor's mission? Would Winter's father be the one to know? This was the only lead they had, so naturally, it was one that the black eagle hoped to pursue. "Claude is a well principled young man. I do hope he finds happiness in his life." Perhaps it was no matter right now, but the truth was, the Hresvelg bloodline could not die with their generation. Maybe it was old-fashioned, but Elise hoped their blood would continue to live on into the future, with their own little black wings.

Elise was afraid of the idea of having children, but if Claude could find someone, that would be good. "There are those who would believe you and Claude would carry on the bloodline." Messages from distant relatives, from the few survivors of the nobility from the Doctor's purge, they wanted Elise to set Winter and Claude up together. They wanted to claim the ancestry of two vassals rather than just one. "Pay them no mind. I would not burden you with the task of bearing children for the bloodline." For a girl whose eyes were always sharp and calculating, she gazed with an almost warm gentleness at Winter's own orbs. "I hope you that if you are to marry, that it is someone you love, and who loves you."

There was a lot to consider, but the sooner they went into the Boundary, the better. "My face appeared healed in the boundary, so I believe our legs will be in good working order." She did not want to rely on Winter's arms the entire time after all. "You should find someone you trust to manage the financials of your farm, and to give authority to them to make the high level decisions for now." Three months would be a while, and with hope, the scientists would have found a way to clean the toxins out of the air to make the city livable again so that they could finally leave the Underground City behind. "I will have Claude handle affairs for the time being." No doubt once Ezra realized what was happening, he would demand Julian to let him be their bodyguard. As long as Ezra was around, no harm would come to their physical bodies.

Just as planned, as morning rose above the city, Elise manuvered her wheelchair to Julian's office. Winter would be on her way as well. "Is everything in order, Miss Elise?" She nodded, smiling. "Black Wing Studios will be in good hands for the time being." Julian's eyes crinkled and nodded. "Are you sure you didn't want to say your goodbyes to Ezra at least?" She blinked, puzzled. "Why? I will come back safely, so there is no need for something so dramatic." She was still inexperienced in the matters of the heart, and despite being prodigal in many things, was not always the most considerate of the feelings of others. "If you believe that to be, then I will trust your judgment, milady."

"You are not a servant of the Hresvelg house anymore." She said quietly as they waited for Winter to come. "You have no need to call me your lady now." He smiled apologetically at her as he prepared the equipment for their long sleep. "Forgive me if I continue, as a favor to an old friend I couldn't protect." Julian was the last living servant of the Hresvelg house. No matter what Elise and Claude tried, they could not find any of the other maids or cooks or butlers alive.

Winter nodded, aware that she was going to have to find someone she trusted to make executive decisions for the farm while she was away. "Goodnight Elise," Winter waved as she walked out. Who did Winter trust? Not many people could handle the intensity of running a farm. Ezra wasn't book smart, admittedly, although he did have good strategic sense. Serenity was a bit of an airhead, if Winter was honest. Oliver had his hands full... That left Carter. She picked up her holo phone, texting him. "I'm going away for a while, you're in charge." Was all the text said. It only took ten minutes for him to come knocking at her door. Winter opened it, already in pajamas. "What do you mean going away? Going where?" He asked, eyes narrowed. Clearly Carter was suspicious of her intentions.

"I'm going to look for my Father. He's out there somewhere, in the Boundary." Carter blinked, definitely not having expected that answer. "So you're leaving me in charge?" He pointed a finger at himself. "Yes, but don't disclude Serenity from decisions and keep her safe from Mercedes. There's something brewing there," Carter nodded. "Who's going to look after you?" He asked, seemingly nervous. "Julian will be caring for my body while I'm away." She explained, pulling her blanket up. "I do have to be up in a few hours to meet him," Carter got the hint. "Alright, goodnight." He waved, turning off the light as he left. Winter settled down, the only light coming from the night light beside her.

When morning came, Winter did not bother to change out of her pajamas. She brushed her teeth and hair, figuring it might be a while before that happened again. Once that was taken care of, Winter went to the lab, where Julian and Elise were waiting for her. "Sorry I'm late," Winter apologized, glancing at the clock. No, she wasn't late, the others were just early. "Ready?" Julian asked, wasting no time. "As I'll ever be," she must have been crazy to be willing to do this all again. Then again, Winter wanted to meet her Father. The only family she had left. She took a deep breath and lay down on the bed waiting for her. "You don't have to do this if you don't want to and you can back out at any time," Winter mentioned to Elise as she began to drift off.

Yuki, Zoku, and Ame were waiting for the two of them. "Welcome back," Yuuki greeted, offering a hand up. Winter took it, realizing that she had only one leg in this world as well. "It's because you gave your leg to the spirits," Zoku said. She snapped her fingers, forming a metal leg for Winter to use. "Elise should be alright," Winter glanced at her worriedly, hoping she could stand. She tested out her metal leg, finding it to be much more comfortable than her prosthetic back on earth. "Any idea where to start looking?" Winter asked her guides. "Yup, we're going to Olympia. We'll need to pass through the town first and stock up on supplies. The trip is easy, but long." Winter nodded, hopefully Elise would be up soon so that they could start venturing towards Olympia.

When next her ruby eyes opened, a familiar landscape opened up around her. She blinked as she tried to gain her bearings when an old and very welcome face appeared right in her view, too close for comfort, a bright smile on her pale face. "Yay!" A voice too loud echoing in her brain, a smile so close she could no longer even see the scenery around her. Not even an inch away, Ame was gazing right into her eyes, beaming as if there were no longer any problems in the world. "You're back! I was wondering when you would miss me! You can't bear to live without me, right?" Elise frowned, looking at her distinctly. "Yuuki helped Winter up, so why have you not extended a hand yet?" She was laying on the ground with Ame crouching nearly on top of her. It was as if the rain girl knew nothing of personal space.

"Your legs are here, do you think you can stand?" Zoku asked, glancing over at her as Yuuki tended to Winter's well-being. Her legs were still intact, which was an answer to one of her questions at the very least. "I can try." Ame offered a small hand and Elise took it, the black eagle trying to support her own weight as best as she could. It felt strange, almost foreign but then she heard a certain Cocoa's words in her ears, encouraging her to keep trying. Finally she was able to stand and walk, through it was slow and she had a bad limp. "My apologies, I hope I do not slow us down too far." Her legs worked, she just needed a little time to remember how to use them again. "I'm sure Winter forgives you, isn't that right, Winnie-poo?" Ame's voice was laced with amusement as she tickled Elise's side, resulting in no laughter. "Pfft, boring, good girls know how to be tickled."

With a comforting sound of the river flowing at their side, it seemed that their destination was clear. "Then the village is that way, all we need is to follow the river." Elise gestured, unfolding one arm to gesture to where they needed to go. "Then let's get moving! It'll be an adventure! This will be so fun!" Ame was already bubbling with energy, no doubt ecstatic that Elise agreed to join Winter on the journey. "This isn't a vacation, make sure you perform your due duties." Zoku reminded Ame with a harsh tone, making the rain Heir pout and whine as she provided support for Elise, at least until the black eagle felt fine to walk on her own.

As the town neared their vision Ame looked at Elise in concern." Should we get you like a wheelchair or something?" She asked, tilting her head. "No, I would benefit more from re-learning how to walk." Once exoskeleton technology advanced in the real world, she may be able to stand again, so this could be considered a forward investmenton physical therapy. "Then we'll at least get you a cane, my shoulder aches!" Ame made her eyes sparkle in Winter's direction. "We can get her a cane, right? Right?"

Winter was glad to see that Elise was up and on her feet. "If she wants a cane, then sure, but they aren't the most comfortable to walk with. Eventually they start hurting your wrist," Winter pointed out as they walked, since Ame was already complaining. "Don't be so dramatic," Yuuki rolled his eyes. They were following the stream, Winter had no idea where they had been deposited, but she was glad that it was by a source of water. The stream ran clear, you could see all the way to the bottom. She had bathed in it plenty of times before oto and would do it again if need be. Hopefully Elise wouldn't be so prude this time and would join her, maybe loosen up a bit. Winter placed her hands behind her head as they walked, the sunshine bright and the air fresh. She took in a lung-full, thinking to herself.

"You're awfully quiet," Yuuki pointed out, nudging her with his shoulder and nearly throwing her off-balance. Zoku grabbed her, "careful!" She growled, having grown oddly protective of Winter. "I'm fine," Winter rolled her eyes. "Elise, let us know if you need us to slow down, alright?" Winter asked, not minding the complaining that Ame was doing. Luckily, with Elise and Ame around, they would always have some source to get water from. Could their bodies dehydrate in the spirit world? Winter wasn't sure? She recalled from the last time that she did feel hunger and thirst, but that could just be because she was a human. "Hey, do you ever get hungry?" Winter asked the Heir's suddenly. "Yeah," Zoku nodded. "All the time," Yuuki added. Winter glanced at Ame, who seemed more of a water droplet than a humanoid.

"What is Olympia like?" Winter asked them next. The alleged city where her Father would be, it sounded mystical. "We've never been there," Yuuki said quickly. Zoku nodded her head, gesturing to the space around her. "We're not important enough, whatever that means." She put quotations around important. That came as a shock, why were they not considered important? "Those invited to live in Olympia have done something to distinguish themselves. They don't just do their due diligance." Winter scratched the back of her head, "But you guys helped us save the Chrysanthemum, isn't that enough?" She argued, confused. "Not by Olympia standards," Yuuki replied with a shake of his head. "That's just what's expected of us. Besides, you guys did all that. Not us," he drummed a finger against his chin in thought.

"Heroes like Atena, who braved a thousand monsters with her mighty bow! Or Zed, well, I'm sure you know these stories already." Indeed, Winter did. As they were all detailed in a book that had been given to her when she was younger. The humans, after all, worshipped the Heirs. Winter never thought she could be the daughter of one. "What do you think it looks like?" Winter asked Elise, they were nearing the village. The sun was already going down, their first day coming to an end. Winter didn't realize how tired she felt, having to adapt to a new leg sapping some of her energy. "We'll stay in the village tonight," Yuuki announced. "Then we'll head out first thing in the morning." Winter nodded. "What should we get for dinner?"

On the topic of a cane, Elise did not have much experience, but if she was causing Ame pain, the answer was fairly obvious. "I would rather not be a burden." For a Hresvelg with noble... well, perhaps the noble blood part did not really matter. Rather, she was too prideful to want to be a burden on this journey. For a prodigy who spent her life looking down on everyone, how bad would it look to be the useless weak link of the team? "If a cane can help me walk on my own, it is worth the wrist pain." What could they offer as payment? The village did not have currency, but rather traded for favors or materials. Water was not exactly in high demand thanks to the river, but she did have acting skills to fall back on.

"If need me I will ask for a short rest." Though hopefully that would not come to pass, though admittedly it was still awkward to walk, even if she was using Ame for support. As much as her erstwhile companion complained, Ame still was willing to help as best as she could, volunteering her shoulder for the task. "I don't really notice if I do or not. Usually Kaze bullies me into eating." Ame mumbled to answer Winter's question, looking away. Kaze was Mercedes's heir, it seemed those two were friends before this whole affair started then. "Ame's the most irresponsible of all of us It's amazing she ended up with someone talented like Elise." Zoku sneered, tapping Ame with a friendly knock on the forehead.

Winter wanted to know what Olympia looked like, what kind of place it was going to be. "Another question, how will we gain access? Is Olympia a closed off city that only the chosen are allowed in?" If that were the case it would be a little more difficult for them to get in. "We helped prevent the apocalypse, is that enough to gain entry?" There were many other questions to ask too, but she could wait until later to bring them up. "Um, Yuuki, you answer this one!" Ame giggled, clearly not having done her research on Olympia. She fiddled with her oddly translucent hair, giggling awkwardly.

With the sun setting, the town was merely minutes away. They walked into the borders, where houses and streets revealed themselves, coming into view. "I will arrange rooms for us at the Inn. Ame, do you think you can find me a cane?" Ame nodded, smiling. "Sure, let me walk you to the inn first before Zoku calls me irresponsible again!" The black eagle glanced back at Winter and her two Heirs then. "Do you think you three could find spare clothes and food for us?" Ame helped Elise into the inn and she managed to haggle a room for the night with the inkeeper in exchange for her to act out a scene with the Doctor and the President planning the Apocalypse as an evil duo. After satisfying the innkeeper and entertaining some of the other guests, Elise trudged up the stairs to the room she booked, sitting tiredly on a soft chair.

"Swollen." She murmued softly to herself as she rubbed her left foot, sighing.
