Winter is rather unremarkable in appearance. She is average height, a bit thin, a little bit lanky. Her eyes are her only unique feature, purple, ever since the day of the incident. Her leg was supposed to be amputated, but the Doctors managed to save it. She walks with a limp, due to this. Her skin marred with the scars of her biggest regret. If only she had said no, if only she had gone alone that day. Winter is not self conscious of her scars, or of her body. She sleeps with gloves at night to protect her hands, her most precious asset. She wears clothing that her Grandparents got her and prefers vintage fashion more than anything else, as it was her Grandmother's favorite. She has a handful of old heirlooms, from the way the world used to be. Her cane used to be her Grandfather's, whittled by hand in his favorite rocking chair. Winter doesn't care what others think, she is her own person.

Even if Winter thinks she is average, her features are remarkable. Porcelain skin, white lashes and eyebrows, dainty lips. She looks like one of those hand painted dolls, with delicate fingers and moves with a grace that only those with tragedy can carry themselves with.

β₯ Janet || Janet is the agent assigned to watch over her, she doesn't say much, but it's just a comfort to know that she's always there.
β₯ Cotton Candy Perfume ||| It's the scent her Grandmother always wore, it's the scent that reminds her of home.
β₯ Instruments || Her instruments are her family, her music is her life.
β₯ Competing || Competition has completely consumed Winter's life. She'd rather feel the rush of adrenaline than the dread of returning to an empty apartment.

For the very first time, there I see
Someone with the same pains as me
Having done this time and time again
She wore a yellow cardigan
"I just wanna stop the scars that grow
Ev-e-ry-time that I go home"
"That's why I came up here instead"
That's what the girl in the cardigan said
Whoa, wait a minute what did I just say?
I couldn't care less either way
But in the moment I just screamed
Something that I did not believe
"Hey, don't do it please!"

Aah what to do?
I can't stop this girl, oh this is new
For once I think I've bitten off more than I can chew
But even so please just go away so I can't see
Your pitiful expression is just too much for me!
"I guess today is just not my day"
She looked away from me and then she disappeared

The Chrysanthemum

{β˜› β’»β’Άβ“‚β’Ύβ“β“Ž ☚}

{β˜› β’½β’Ύβ“ˆβ“‰β“„β“‡β“Ž ☚}
Winter doesn't remember her birth parents. Her earliest memories are of her Grandparents, raising her to be the best she could be. Winter was friendly, she had plenty of friends, kids didn't care, after all, that she lived with ther Grandparents. In fact, they thought it was rather cool. Winter's Grandparents were doting, they lived in the quiet countryside of Chrysanthemum, a boring, uneventful life, but Winter wouldn't have it any other way. Everyday was the same, working on a farm meant getting up early and going to sleep late. Winter would help feed the chickens, milk the cows, and chase the foxes out of the hen house. It was a quiet life, a peaceful one, one Winter wouldn't trade for anything in the world.

Then one day, her Grandparents enrolled her in music classes. They thought Winter needed a hobby and had heard that musical theory would help her math grades. Her teacher was a kind old woman named Addison Briar who had taught famous musicians in the big city. Winter enjoyed her lessons, but she could never stick to one instrument. Every day, she would pick a new one. The harpsicord, the violin, the piano, the bass. Her heart became attuned to every instrument she touched and her music teacher urged her Grandparents to send her to the big city. It would mean selling their farm, it would mean leaving behind everything they ever knew and loved. They held off, wanting Winter to have a peaceful life and giving that stability to her for as long as possible.

Her grades began to jump up, she was doing well in school, in music, with her friends. A social butterfly that was never seen without people by her side. Then the day came, her Grandparents sold their farm for a hefty price, they could retire in the city and live an easy life while sending Winter to the large academy the Chrysanthemum City Center had for gifted students. She was eager to attend, with her cute new uniform and sparkling shoes. Winter was an instant hit, she made friends abound, who were attracted to her outsider accent and easy smile. She was happy with her new life, her Grandparents enjoying their easy life of playing games with their new friends and taking care of the dog they had brought with them.

A note was tapped to their door, a concert. At first, Winter didn't want to go, she didn't want to fall behind on her homework, but her friends convinced her and her Grandparents, having never been to a concert before, were intruiged. They all went together, Winter excited and nervous. They were sitting as a group when the bomb went off. Winter was separated from her Grandparents, she remembered the white hot light and heat from the bomb. She remembered praying, hoping for things to be okay. She remembered a shrine gate appearing before her and crossing through it, a gentle snow. When Winter awoke, she was in an unfamiliar place, a hospital, guarded by two government agents. She had caused a blizzard in the middle of spring, they thought she was working with the terrorists.

After being acquited of all charges, she was allowed to return to school, but Winter was now under their surveillance. She had a permanent limp now and walked with a cane. Winter was eager to return home, only to discover that her Grandparents had died. Her dog too, was gone, having been taken in by a shelter. Her belongings were all packed in several neat boxes. No one had bothered to tell Winter, in all of this, that her Grandparents were dead. There was another blizzard that day, in the middle of fall. Winter began to withdraw from everyone, she skipped classes, her grades began to slip, it didn't matter, her friends were all dead. She spent most of her time in the music room, her hands raw from practice. She would sleep with gloves, skipping school altogether to compete, to crush the competition, to try to feel alive again.

|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

Winter listened as Yuuki began to explain. He had told her all of this already, he had warned her before coming, but Winter had insisted anyway. "We don't actually know where Olympia is," he admitted. "The location is only revealed to those who are invited." Which was why this was a hunt and not just a straight shot there. "There's no guaruntee we'll be able to enter and even if we do get there, we might be turned away at the gate." Yuuki explained, scratching the back of his head. "This could be a complete bust." There was no way of knowing if they tould actually find Winter's father. They didn't even know if Zeus was truly her father or not. "It's a shot in the dark, literally." Winter probably should have explained it better. "You can leave at anytime though, don't feel like you're stuck here since you said yes." After all, Elise had much more pressing things than finding Winter's Dad at hand.

They arrived at the town, Elise wanting to go find them a room for the night. "Alright, we'll see you soon." The village had one Inn, it was small, but well-stocked. "Where should we start?" Zoku asked, cracking her knuckles as though she was ready to start a fight. Which in truth, concerned Winter a bit. "Let's get clothing first, then we can focus on food." They stopped at a few different stands, getting clothing for Winter and Elise, since the Heir's already had their belongings in this universe. Winter picked out food as well, enough to last time a good bit, as well as a backpack, and new shoes for her real and fake leg. People stared and whispered, no doubt recognizing that she didn't belong there. She paid in ice wherever she went, since there was only one way to freeze things in the village and that was in winter.

Elise had already worked out the details for them at the inn. Winter and Elise would be sharing a room, while Zoku and Ame would share another, and Yuuki would have his own. The inn had delivered food to their rooms, since the dining hall was closed, but breakfast was bright and early. "I'm here!" Winter announced, carrying in the bag full of stuff. "I got us plenty," she looked at the tray, her stomach growling. Was it real hunger? Artificial? Winter didn't know. She sat down, digging into the stew and bread roll, and practically chugging the water. "You're not mad at me right? For not fully explaining things?" Winter asked as she removed her prosthetic, sitting in bed. It was getting late in Boundary terms, the stars were all twinkling outside, the sound of crickets in the distance chirping away.

"We should head to bed," from here on out it would be camping until they found Olympia. If they found Olympia. Winter had her heart set on it, she knew that the Boundary responded to will, so hopefully it would respond to her desire to meet her Dad. Winter pulled the blanket up to her chin, unable to wonder what tomorrow would be like because she had never been past the village before. When they were fighting monsters, they were always on the other side, in a field. She wondered if their stuff was still there, the tents all set up in a circle. They would not be passing it and they had started at a completely different point in the Boundary. Were there more villages that they would pass through? Winter wondered as she drifted off.

By the time Winter arrived with bags full of supplies for them, including the cane that Ame bought, Elise already had plans written and drawn out on the paper maps she managed to buy from the front desk. Her foot was feeling a little better now thanks to giving it a water massage, and with the delivered dinner, she would hopefully be able to last a good amount of time longer. "Why would I be mad? I am sure you have your reasons." As she pulled Winter's share of the delivered dinner to her she also decided to show her what she had been working on. "I found a map of the local region, and with villages and roads and population sizes." There were markings all over as she was planning a possible route for them to travel by.

Because as always, the black eagle was a bit of a workaholic. Now that she had gotten over the trauma of the scarred face she once bore, she was happy to keep busy and keep working. Elise von Hresvelg did not know how to relax. "So I figured that if Olympia is a place no one knows about, then it cannot be somewhere with high traffic and population. So we can cross out areas of travel and populated areas from the list." She explained as she gestured to the villages and roads crossed out on her list. "We would be better off exploring the hidden unknown corners to try and find it. If it is a special city, a natural landmark or a beautiful sight is more likely to contain a hidden city than a corner with nothing to distinguish it." Perhaps deep in a dangerous forest, or at the peak of an impossibly high mountain.

Once morning came, Elise quietly worked on a list of materials she would need to create a new portal generator for once it was time for them to leave the Boundary. There was a chance Olympia would have the tech to send them back, but that was taking an unnecessary gamble. "Hey, do not oversleep. Breakfast is waiting. I will use the bathroom first." She nudged Winter awake, pocketing her shopping list before leaving the village, and went to take care of her morning routine ritual. Grateful for the darker-colored tunic and cloak Winter bought, Elise drew a tiny wing on the inner collar with her marker then exited the bathroom. "I will wait outside the door, then we can catch up with the others for breakfast."

Ame was already whining about the long journey ahead when Elise gave her proposed plan to Yuuki for examination. "But that's even longer!" Ame whimpered as she munched on a purple corn cob. "I do wonder though..." There was a question that was bothering her for a while. "Why do you Heirs care about what happens to humanity? Why did you give us powers and ask us to stop the Doctor?" What benefit did this have for the people of an entirely different world? "And why did you choose children? Excluding Merlin, would it not be wiser to grant powers to adults?" Ame wriggled nervously and pouted. "You should ask these two, they're smarter than me!" Rain made scapegoats of Zoku and Yuuki and ran off to get more sauce for her purple corn.

|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

Winter was glad to hear that ELise was not mad at her and also impressed that she had been working so hard while Winter had been shopping. "I'm glad you have a plan, because I'm afraid our guides might end up not being the most helpful." Winter had lived with Zoku and Yuuki in her head, after all, she knew just how useful they could be, but also how useless. "I'm gonna head to bed now," she announced, pulling her blanket up to her chin and falling righ tto sleep. When morning came, Elise nudged her in order to get her up. Winter sat up groggily and rubbed her eyes. "I'm up," she mumbled. Winter put her prosthetic on while Elise was in the bathroom. When she came out, Winter looked away, laughing into her hand. "Did you draw an eagle on your shirt?" She asked, standing.

Winter used the bathroom next, brushing through her hair and scrubbing her face. When she was done and dressed, she followed Elise downstairs to the dining room, where breakfast was being served. Winter grabbed a tray, piling it high. She wrapped a few rolls in paper, stuffing them into her bag to eat for later. "I would like to know the answer to that too," Winter mentioned as she finished wrapping another breadroll and placing it in her bag. Yuuki looked nervous, but why? "It's not exactly our choice," he admitted. "We get orders from Olympia and we have to follow them through. We get very little free reign in what we actually want to do." That was interesting, Winter thought as she bit into a pastry, jelly coming out the other end and getting all over her fingers.

"We watch over your world, it's kind of like looking at a snow globe. We each have jurisdiction over a certain element and can hear your prayers. So on All Heir's Day, if a child wants a first snow, that would be my department." Yuuki spoke as an example. "When your world is endanger, it is in our best interest to help. It's sort of like you're all our children." He scratched the back of his head, "When we had to pick a Vassal, we got a selection of cards. Each of us picked one card, based on who stood out the most. Children are the most receptive to us, so we mostly stick with younger ones. After all, you have to want our help." Winter thought back, all the way back. "The terrorist attack," she said to which Yuuki nodded his head. "I knew you would be receptive when you called out for help."

"Then there are people like her," he glanced at Zoku. "Who try to make a game of it all," Zoku shrugged. "Life isn't interesting without a chaotic neutral," she sipped her drink, coffee, which she took black. "Besides, it all worked out, didn't it?" Zoku asked, Yuuki slamming his palms against the table. "Your Vassal nearly killed all the others!" Winter tugged on Yuuki's shirt, it was cold. "People are watching," she said, getting him to sit back down. "Elise has a shopping list, so maybe we should head out?" Get started on the day so they could begin to do what they needed to. They walked out into the sunshine, the temperature mild, but not cold. It was sunny overhead, but not bad either. Winter thought about purchasing sunglasses as they reached the market place.

As prideful as Elise was, she had also grown remarkably thick-skinned. Even with Winter laughed at her little memorandum to her family, she simply smiled and opened the door to their room, the smell of breakfast wafting through the rafters. "Perhaps it is a little funny. In the beginning it was only out of status." Now of course, the black wings of Hresvelg were more than just a symbol of status. "I wear it in honor of those I lost along the way." She never was a good daughter, not to Jeralt, not to Cynthia, and certainly not her own biological mother. But she was still a Hresvelg, one of the feathers on the eagle's wing. "But I am glad you find it a little entertaining." There was no harm in Winter finding enjoyment out of it, Elise knew more than anyone her poorly drawn eagle was nothing like the real emblem.

As they were eating breakfast, the big questions came out and Yuuki and Zoku took Ame's cue and began providing answers. As expected, these sorts of questions were something Winter wanted answered as well. So the humans were something like children then? "If humanity is your children, why did you let me kill so many of them?" Elise was responsible for quite a few deaths, both when she was tricking the Slithers and when she was fighting to escape the Government's claws. "Well, sometimes bad kids need to be punished! And any kid that works with the Doctor is a bad seed trying to spoil the rest of the harvest!" Amy giggled, smiling brightly. Elise sighed, rolling her eyes. "I forgot, you Heirs have strange morals that do not match up well with ours." Ame nodded, grinning. "Sure, but it's not like you're the shining star of pacifism either!" Elise finished her morning herbal tea, feeling refreshed and ready to go. "Being kind to an enemy is being cruel to yourself. I would never let an enemy live." A dead enemy is one that can no longer threaten you. Understanding that was the only thing she and the Doctor had in common.

Once eating was finished, it was time to hit the road. "So I heard from Ame you had a route you wanted us to try and take?" Zoku asked, glancing at Elise as she began handling the rosewood cane to support her uncooperative legs. "Yes. Here, would you like to take the lead?" She fished the maps out of the pocket of the purse Ame bought for her, handing it over to the metal Heir. "Did anyone tell you your writing is too pretty? Too curvy and loopy." Elise frowned, raising an eyebrow. "It is proper writing. Do you have a problem?" Zoku snorted and turned her head. "This seems to make sense, so we might as well follow it for now. It's not like we have any other real plans at the moment." Ame giggled, poking Zoku's cheek. "Be nice to my Vassal! Only I'm allowed to annoy her!" Ame seemed to be in brighter spirits now that she did not need to sacrifice her shoulder anymore.

It took them another hour or so and some more haggling for materials by the time they finished. They regrouped and now it was time to hit the road. "So this is the rumored portal generator?" Zoku sniffed at Elise's new bag she packed into her purse. "Not yet. I have to assemble it. We can use it to return home once we are finished." This time she would need to be a little more creative, since last time she used the river as a power source. "We'll be camping out for the rest of the trip." Ame giggled, her eyes like half moons. "That means if you don't wanna be smelly, you'll have to go into the river in the nude with Winter! You'd best not disappoint poor Winter!" Elise smiled faintly, holding up her bag. "I have soap bars, and I can control water as I please. Why would I ever want to strip and jump into a river?" Ame clenched her fists, then stomped ahead to where Winter was with Yuuki. "Win-win! Make my Vassal more fun!" Ame wept, making up a nickname on the spot.

Winter had no qualms with people dying, of course, that was because she had grown up surrounded by death. It was a natural part of life. People would come and go, but you couldn't stop them from leaving. Or at least, she thought so. She sipped at her breakfast tea, legs crossed at the ankles beneath the table. "I think it's fine of people who want to cause trouble die," Winter said lightly, at last done eating. It was time to get going, the group rising from their table to head to the town. "I have some things I want to pick up too, while you look." Winter said, the group splitting up. Zoku remained with Ame to make sure that she didn't get too distracted, while Yuuki went with Winter to try and locate some sunglasses and a first aid kit, as it was always better to be safe then sorry, in his opinion. Especially when it came to humans.

"How about these?" Winter asked, trying on a pair of aviators. "I think they look great," Yuuki nodded. Winter exchanged a block of ice for them and tucked them into her pocket. "Yuuki, when you disappear from my life, will my ice powers go with you?" Winter asked, as they waited at the meeting spot for Elise. "No," Yuuki replied, scratching the back of his head. "You probably won't be as strong, but they'll remain. Of course, if you are Zeus's daughter, there's no telling if they'll ever disappear completely." Winter looked at her hands, her fingertips a constant blue. If she didn't know any better, she would say that they were frostbitten. They had been that way ever since the terrorist attack. It was partly why she had hidden her hands in gloves. The other reason, of course, was because of her being a musician.

"Don't let this hold you back Winter," Yuuki said suddenly. "What do you mean?" She inquired, taken aback. "You wanted to be a musician, no one said you can't still do that." She nodded, hands balling into fists. "I doubt that's possibly anymore. I have a farm to run, I just wanted to be a musician to make sure I couldn't be er-" Yuuki glanced at her. "You wanted to play at the Opal again, didn't you?" Her heart skipped a beat hearing that desire mentioned. "Yes," she admitted softly. "I did, but that's hardly possible now." Yuuki shook his head. "It's never impossible, oh look, the others are here." He waved, Ame, Elise, and Zoku having returned. "Alright, let's start going." Winter said, pointing outside of the town.

They had never gone this far before, it was exciting and nerve wracking. Winter was suddenly grabbed by Ame, who whined about making Elise more fun. "Elise is plenty fun, just not conventionally fun." Winter replied, "Besides, if Elise doesn't want to join me in the river, I can hardly protest, considering I'll have it all to myself." Sometimes you needed a bit of private time at the end of the day and it would be easy for Winter to stand in the river with only one leg, considering the water would be able to balance her out. "Maybe by the end though, we can teach Elise some card games."

It was not as if Elise particularly cared about the lives of strangers. There were definitely those who deserved whatever death was coming for them. "I agree. My only quarrel here is the fact that outsiders are meddling in the affairs of humans." Elise was a quite deterministic person, she did not like the idea of outside forces getting involvedin problems caused and created by humans. This was a slightly different scenario though, thanks to the Doctor somehow having known about the Boundary long enough to begin making his plan. "Okay, we will meet up with you at the town's exit once you are done shopping." She went to trade for all the different materials she would need to create the Portal Generator, the schematics still memorized in her head just in case they would ever need to use one again.

After grouping up, they left the village with their sacks full of camping supplies and other necessities. Elise manipulated the cane to help keep herself balanced, though hopefully as the days go by she would be able to walk without assistance. How long would it take to remember how to properly move her legs? "I would rather be successful than fun, Ame." The black eagle rolled her eyes a little at the antics of her Heir, who was nearly flapping her arms in exasperation in an attempt to get her to bathe naked in the river. Winter did not seem to mind that she may be alone in enjoying that luxury, which suited Elise just fine. She was not the kind of person to easily remove her clothing, especially in the presence of others. Claude was the rare exception, as he helped dress her for years and had suspicions he might actually be completely devoid of lust thanks to his utter nonreaction to her undressed state.

"Card games would be a nice way to pass the time after setting up camp each night." Zoku said with a wry smile, making Elise raise an eyebrow in alarm. "Oh, come on, El! Don't tell me you're not allowed to play with even cards?" Ame whimpered, clinging to her arm like an overly attached girlfriend. "My family always attributed cards to gambling, so forgive me if I am a little sceptical. Are there card games worth playing without monetary risk?" She had a poor impression on gambling. Why gamble when you could spend your money on business ventures instead? "Win-Win, we have a lot of work to do to teach her about fun." Ame shook her head as if speaking about some horrible tragedy, crocodile tears in her eyes.

"I remembered to get us a set of cards from the village." Yuuki held up a package in his hands, looking almost proud of himself as they continued walking. "It's human-themed, so we can teach her human games that way." There was a fork in the road, and Zoku referred to the map in order to choose the direction. "We should go this way, the first route brings us to the left path here." Zoku pointed down the road, with tall mountains looming in the distance, like spikes shooting up from the ground, jagged and high. Could Olympia be hidden atop those sharp mountains? Well, there was only one way to find out.

"Hmm, we'll just have to teach you some card games then," Winter shrugged. Elise seemed generally blase as to whether or not she was willing to learn, so Winter took that as a yes. "We'll teach you about some commoner foods too," like how to warm a can of beans over a fire. They walked for hours, until the sun had set. "Let's set up camp," Yuuki decided. The territory was monster free, it seemed. Winter found a high, flat place for them to pitch their tents. They were not as fancy as the ones that they had used previously in the Boundary, but that was fine because these were a bit more temporary and easier to pitch. "Here, like this, you have to push the poles all the way through the cloth." Winter showed Elise. She could recall a time when Elise was too prideful in asking for help on pitching a tent.

They got a fire started, Zoku trying to add metal scraps despite Yuuki's protest, insisting that they would burn for longer. Winter shut that down quickly, not wanting the metal to burn and get in their lungs. Winter set up a small skillet on top and began to cook. She warmed the can of beans directly in the fire and dumped some of the meat into the skillet, allowing it to sizzle. Next she used spices, the small camping spices they had picked up in the town. She also warmed up a few of the rolls she had stolen from the Inn on the hot rocks beside the fire. The air began to smell like dinner and Winter's stomach growled. "Food's on!" Zoku had dragged logs and rocks around the fire for them to sit on. Winter doled out everything into bowls that they could wash and reuse in the river.

"I guess I'll teach Elise her first card game," Winter took out the deck of cards. "We'll play blackjack," Winter explained the rules, "You want to try and get to twenty one. So you can pass on the cards if you think you have it and then say "fold," if you wanna cop out of this round. We reveal who's the closest at the end of the game. I'll be dealer this round," they would play without gambling first, just to make things easier, and since there wasn't really anything to gamble on. "Okay, ready for the first round?" Winter waited to see who would pass and who would fold. She handed out cards to those that needed. "Alright, turn over." Yuuki had 21 exactly. "Who else? No one? Alright, first game goes to Yuuki."

The next round went quickly, it seemed after a few rounds, everyone had gotten the hang of it. "Alright, I think this should be the last round for the evening." THey needed to get to bed soon. Zoku whined, "I want to play more," she grunted. Apparently, they did not play Blackjack in this world. Winter shrugged, "Sorry Zoku, we've gotta be up early if we want to be productive." She delt the cards, "Ready?" Who would win this round? It was always a mystery. "And turn over," Winter announced since the third card had been dealt to those that did not pass or fold.

Card games and commoner foods. For a lesser noble, Winter really did not come across as one. Status did not really matter of course, but people with different statuses tended to have different backgrounds than others would have. Winter knew a lot of these kinds of things while Elise's common knowledge was elsewhere, in loftier subjects. "Thank you, these ones are easier to set up." She said, following Winter's instructions for setting up camp. They had walked a while and her wrist was throbbing, aching from overusing the cane but hopefully things would improve after today. A fire was started and Winter began working on a can of beans. It was not often Elise would get to enjoy rusting food like cooked beans. Here in the boundary she did not have to worry about her sensitive stomach that still ached after every meal at the Underground City.

The roasted beans tastes quite unique. A little savory, with a funny texture that was hard for her to describe. "It's good! I bet El likes it too, Win-Win!" Ame snickered, munching happily on some of her own beans. The cards were set up and doled out, and Blacjack was the name of the game they would be playing today. The rules were explained to them and Elise figured that it was relatively simple. You just wanted to get to 21 somehow, right? "This is a little like one of our games, except the number is 35 and the cards are different." Ame said with an amused smile once Winter finished explaining the rules. This time they chose not to gamble on anything, but Elise was sure they would be able to think of little trinkets to use to up the stakes. Maybe little stones, or even food if they needed to.

Yuuki won the first one, and after a few runs, everyone had racked up a few wins. "If this is the last one then this one is winner takes all!" Zoku grumbled, crossing her arms. "Whoever wins tonight is the biggest winner!" After everyone went until they were ready to turn, Winter announced the turn over. "I have 31." Elise said with a little smile. "I must have asked for one too many card." Ame pouted, whining as she turned over her cards. "I went even higher!" It looked like tonight's ultimate winner was not going to be one of them, but perhaps one of the others would be able to claim victory.

A restless sleep later and the crack of dawn was upon them, blazing in the sky that was still dark, looming overhead. Ame sat next to her, finding her outside on some rocks. "My feet hurt. This journey was a bad idea. Why did you agree to it?" Ame frowned, still looking upset that she could not win the final game last night. "It will be a good experience. And I am certain Winter would need the help." Would she have been able to create a portal generator on her own? "But today we'll have to try to walk all the way to those mountains." Ame pointed to the distance. "If we don't make it, we'll be stuck in the open without any shade." It would get really hot and dry. "Then we will have to ensure there's enough water to keep going." Finally, a practical use for her powers that was not combat-related.

|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

Winter was awake at dawn. She had trouble sleeping, not because she was in a sleeping bag, but because her mind was busy spinning with thoughts of what if's and whether's. She bathed in the river nearby when she woke up and packed up her sleeping bag, then started a fire to get breakfast ready. Ame was whinning about the walk already. "Elise joined me of her own volition, but you don't have to be here Ame." Winter said gently, it wasn't as though they were bound anymore. Besides, Ame hadn't made a promise that she would find Olympia. Yuuki and Zoku, on the other hand, had promised to guide Winter to her destination. Breakfast this morning was hot cereal and berries that she had picked beside the river. They were plump and juicy, the same kind she had enjoyed last time she was in the Boundary. Hopefully Winter didn't make it a habit of coming here.

"Alright, let's move out." They had finished packing up camp, Yuki wanted to get the show on the road. Winter didn't blame him, of course. She too, wanted to start walking. "So, if we're going be Elise's map, then our first destination is only a two day walk?" The first spot they would look would undoubtly not be the right one, Winter had a gut feeling. "Yeah," Zoku confirmed. "There's a village not too far away we can restock supplies in." She swung a metal bar around like a bat as they walked. Winter glanced at Elise to make sure she was alright. "How is your wrist?" She asked, knowing that it was probably aching from getting used to the cane. Winter's wrist had hurt the first week of using a cane and then on and off for the rest of the time. Sometimes, she still had phantom pain from it.

"I wish I had something to give Zeus to prove to him that I am who I say I am. Not just some random child walking around, trying to get his attention..." was that a common thing? Winter wasn't sure. "I'm sure he won't doubt you," Yuuki replied, walking with his hands behind his head. "Zeus isn't exactly known for his monogomy." Zoku slapped him on the arm. "Don't talk about him like that!" It was true, even in the stories, the Heir's had, had many relationships. "I just never expected him to do that with a human-" Yuuki continued, even though Zoku was glaring daggers. "Keep talking like that and he'll strike you down," she muttered. Yuuki only rolled his eyes, "That's just a rumor." He waved it off, continuing to lead the way.

"We'll need to cross this," a mountain range. There were jagged boulders sticking out. Had Winter two legs, she probably could have climbed it easily. "Alright, well, let's start this." Winter grabbed two rocks, hauling herself up onto the first boulder. It was harder than it looked. Her prosthetic leg dangled precariously. "Need any help?" She asked Elise, holding a hand out to aid her friend. Somehow, Winter had not expected them to have to climb the face of a mountain. In her mind, she had expected this to be a flat walk through fields and countryside. She could not recall there being mountains, although, in retrospect, it would make sense that the Boundary wasn't completely flat considering those that governed it needed different climates.

While Ame and Elise were discussing the walk they would have to mutually endure today - neither girl particularly hardy in the wilderness - Winter overheard them and came to talk to Ame, giving her an out. A faint blush appeared on the watery heir's cheeks and she shook her head, a bubbly smile on her face. "No, no, I'm just complaining because it's fun! Don't worry, I'm here all the way! It would be boring without me!" Elise smiled slightly, shaking her head, tightening the grip on her cane as she hoisted herself to her feet. "Are you sure? You do not miss your comforts and luxuries at home?" Ame blinked and wriggled almost like a worm. "No! I mean, maybe, but I'm your Heir! What kind of Heir would I be if I weren't here?"

"You do not need to make me an excuse, Ame. But thank you for joining us." She and Ame helped pack up the tents and then they ate breakfast with Winter's camping cuisine skills. It was time for them to get moving and make the most of the daylight while they still had it. Yuuki in particular was eager to continue their journey in the search for Olympia and what secrets it may hold for them. Apparently Zeus was not a monogamous lover. It made sense, considering the namesake from the old Greecian mythologies. The Thunder God Zeus and his many affairs - could the origin of that myth be the heir named Zeus they were looking for? "What if we continued talking about it? and let Zeus smite us?' The three Heirs looked at her as if she were an insane alien. "...What? We can then triangulate the lightning bolt from the sky to guide us towards Olympia, all we would need would be a compass."

Zoku rolled her eyes, almost amused at Elise's thinking. "That's assuming we'd live the blast."

Her wrist was becoming tired, but she did not want to slow the group down. Even as the noon sun burned at their backs, she did not want to be the reason why they could not keep to the planned time table. "I am fine, but thank you for asking." She replied when Winter first asked about her wrist. When they reached the foot of the mountain ranges, the task seemed a bit more daunting and Winter extended a hand for help again. "If you would not mind, that may make this faster for everyone." Wtih Winter's help, the black eagle made her way up the boulder. "That's my girl, I raised her myself." Ame puffed up her chest in pride. "She's even willing to accept help! How the children grow!"

"According to your plans, we hike as far up as we can to get the best view possible of the ranges." Zoku said, holding the map close in hand. "Don't hesitate to speak up if you're tired. Remember we'll have to go down to reach the next village either way." Elise nodded, frowning. "I am aware. Let us go as far as we are able." It barely afternoon now, they still had a few good hours of daylight left.

From the top of the mountain, it felt as though they could see the entire world. It took them a while to get to the top, a bit longer than expected. Between Winter's leg and Elise's limp, they ended up having to stop a few times. Winter's leg had unhooked at one point and had become lodged between two rocks. A minor set back, but it had taken a bit of pulling to get it out while Winter was forced to cling to the mountainface and wait for the others to remove it. It was already the golden hour when they reached the summit. "This view," her eyes sparkled as she looked down on the valley they had just climbed from. "I didn't think we'd be able to see it from up here," Yuuki narrowed his eyes. No shining towers, no golden gates. No Olympia, but it was a good attempt. "It could still be on the other side of the mountain," Zoku pointed out.

That was true. They could scale to the other side and see what lay there. Winter didn't think that they would be able to find it that easily though. "We can make camp when we reach the bottom," Yuuki suggested. It was probably a good idea, considering they were going to loose daylight quickly. "It's some progress, at least." Winter pointed out, glad that they had at least attempted it. If Olympia was hidden, how was one supposed to find it? Elise had, had a plan of sorts. Maybe they could start asking locals around the villages if they knew anything of it? The way down the mountain was a bit easier, there was no clear trail, but they could bushwhack a little bit while scaling the rocks. Thankfully, Winter had picked up a long knife in the village she could use to cut down brush. Like this, they could sort of carve out their own path.

The last bit coming down the mountain was a harsh slide they had to make on their butts, the rocks shifting beneath them. Winter was covered in dust and dirt, but they had made it to another clearing on the other side, a river running through it. "We shouldn't set up too close to the river, in case it rains." They wouldn't want the river to overflow into their camp and possibly harm them. After setting up, Winter got the fire started. The temperature was beginning to drop, a bit of a chill in the air. "We have a few options for dinner," Winter said as she started unpacking the rest of the rolls she had stolen from the breakfast buffet. She placed them on warm rocks while the fire began to take. "We can have a vegetable stew, a bean stew, skewered meat."

Winter waited for them to take a vote, a branch breaking on the right, behind her. She jumped to attention, "Spirit staff," it appeared in her hands. Was it an animal? A person? A pair of red eyes peered at them from the brush. "No one move," Yuuki said softly. They did not know who, or what it was. Would it attack them? Pass by them? Perhaps camping in the woods wasn't a good idea? One massive paw emerged, not a monster, but an animal. It was covered in dense fur and was the color of the evening sky, with gold flecks along its belly. Larger than any stag Winter had ever seen, it towered above them. "What is that?" She whispered. Not a monster, no, she had no idea what it was.

With pain, effort, and sore limbs, Elise managed to keep up with the others, scaling down the mountain. The hardest part was sliding down the other side, it was very difficult to brake her fall without being able to truly use her legs. Still, she felt a little better than the first day. Hopefully she was going to be able to use her legs properly soon. Why was she so adamant to keep pace? Well, this may be her last opportunity to ever truly walk, and she did not want it to go to waste. Prospects were low, Doctor Julian made sure she was realistic about her situation. "If you wear yourself out, I'll be forced to give you my shoulder again, so take it easy!" Ame complained, bristling as Elise took her hand, getting back to her feet.

They set up camp a little bit away from the river's gentle flow, not wanting the rising water to flood their camp due to the low ground they were situated in. The air was chilly, in the shade of the mountain it was harder for the heat to reach their layer. Winter was, naturally, their main chef, so she wanted them to vote on what their preferred meal would be. "I want to save the meat for a special time, so let's eat the beans first!" Ame declared with a beaming grin, looking proud of herself. "We should really eat the meat before the rest, as it is the easiest to spoil." While the rolls were magically preserved, there was still an expiry date if they waited too long. In the end, Elise's logic won the day and the rest voted alongside her to eat the skewered meat.

In an instant Winter snapped to attention. Elise frowned, wondering why her senses had dulled so badly when she heard the sound too. "Spirit gun." She muttered, the small firearm appearing in her hands, the rosewood cane inches from her grasp. A large horned creature was walking, dark blue and gold, with a majestic aura about it. Yuuki warned them to be still, and it was tall and proud as it almost seemed to ignore them after a brief moment of disinterest. There was a faint metallic smell, almost like that of blood. Looking carefully, the towering creature had wounds by its calves, causing it's step to be somewhat awkward. "Those do not appear to be natural wounds." Rather, spears and swords lapping at it's ankles to wound and take the animal down.

"Someone was hunting around here then!" Ame cried aloud, startling the creature. It made a pitiful groaning noise and continued to walk painfully, hobbling past their camp sight when it buckled to the grassy ground, almost in a shameful kneeling position. "What should we do?" Zoku asked, glancing at it with curiosity. "It would be a shame to let it be, but I am not sure how many spare bandages and wound cleaners we can afford to give it." They made sure to bring the essential first aid kits from the village, but would it be enough to help the wounded beast? "The sun is setting, it may be beneficial to allow nature to take it's course." With it's injured legs, it would not survive once the hunters found the trail.

Winter started cooking the meat, which sizzled as she placed it in the buttered pan. In an instant, she was on her toes, her battle-sense as quick as ever. There was an animal, majestic and tall, and gravely wounded. It limped into the middle of the field, startled by Ame's calls. "Shh!" Yuuki prompted them, "Guys, have you never seen a Messenger before? Monsters must have injured it. These are animals the important Heir's use to send decrees!" He seemed excited, Winter slowly began to realize what this meant. "Elise, if we can heal this animal, it might lead us to what we're looking for." Olympia, now all they needed was a way to get this creature home. It was a gamble, but one that Winter thought was worth it. "Watch the food," she directed to Zoku and held her hand out, standing a bit away from the animal. It bristled, turning away from her.

Winter broke off a piece of bread and rolled it towards the animal. It hesitated, sniffed the bread, and licked it. Winter watched as it picked it up, gobbling the piece after deciding it was safe. Winter inched closer, her hand out so that the animal could inspect it. The Messanger stiffened as Winter grew closer, eventually getting close enough to where her hand was right in front of its nose. It sniffed her a few times, curious, cautious, then bowed its head, allowing Winter to touch it. She rubbed behind its ears, its coat silky and smooth. "Elise, feel his fur." She said softly, "Yuuki, slowly bring me the first aid kit." Winter was willing to use her share of bandages if it meant that the Messanger could lead them to Olympia.

"It'll be alright," she murmured, "Elise, can you try and keep him calm while I attempt to wrap these bandages?" Winter asked, "just pet him behind the ears." She began assessing the wounds, intaking the damage. There were bruises, scrapes, and cuts. She tended to the largest of them first, rubbing a cleaning agent on it. The animal yelped and attempted to buckle, but it could not move, it was weak and frightened. "Shh, shh, it's okay. Ame, some bread." Winter directed, wanting to calm the Messanger down so as not to continue to frighten it. "What do I do?" Zoku asked, "The meat is ready!" Winter shook her head, "It can't be ready yet, just flip it." Once the animal had settled, Winter went back to work, trying to wrap wounds while Elise kept him calm.

"The steak should be done now, take it off the heat and cover it." Winter directed, smelling the food. She looked up at Elise and smiled, "You're doing great." Winter was nearly done, she was just cleaning the last few wounds. The Messanger seemed more curious now than anything, it seemed to be feeling better as well. When Winter finished, she rose and dusted herself off. Her knowledge of first aid was basic, but it seemed to be enough. "It's alright," she stroked its elegant mane. "You're going to be alright." Winter turned back to the others, seeming satisfied. "I think we've gained its trust, who's hungry? We should eat before the steak gets cold."

Apparently the large royal blue golden stag was considered a Messenger, a creature used by Heirs to send decrees, and who knows what other functions they had available to them? There was a chance then that following this majestic creature would take them to the destination they so sought - take them straight to Olympia. "Ame." Elise glanced over at her companion as Winter began doling out orders, deciding to treat the creature in hopes of gaining it's trust. Winter was trying to entice the Messenger with the food she had been cooking, the tempting aroma still filling the air around the camp. "Yeah? What's up?" Ame asked, kicking her feet as she lounged about. "Why did you not know this was a Messenger? You are an Heir, correct?" Ame's smile faded and she writhed as if the question was painful to her. "Some things are better left as mysteries, yup!"

"Mysteries my left tail." Zoku mocked, rolling her eyes, protecting the rest of the food that would be for their consumption. "Elise, before Ame became your Heir and chose your card, she spent all of her time in her room playing make-believe with wooden dolls." The idea of Ame playing around in a house for some reason did not feel out of character for the irresponsible raindrop. "That is not surprising actually." Perhaps Ame felt kinship with Elise then, it seemed they had more similarities than was apparent at first glance. "People kept making fun of me because I have a weird face, of course I wouldn't go out and play with them." She stuck out her tongue and rolled her eyes. Winter wanted them to help so Elise did as told, doing her part in the first aid treatment for the Messenger.

Eventually it was done, the wounds were cleaned, and the Messenger no longer seemed afraid and agitated. "Good work, you may have a knack with animals." Maybe it came from her work on the farm, but Winter definitely looked as if that was not her first time. "If monsters were attacking it, we'd best keep a lookout. We might have to do a little fighting tonight." Zoku warned them as Yuuki served the food, everyone getting skewered meat to fill their stomachs. "I am going to miss your cooking." Elise said, after biting a piece of her meal. "I may as well make the best of it while I can." The Messenger was finishing up the strip of meat Winter gave it as an offering and it looked at them almost expectantly, no doubt wanting more but too proud to beg for it.

As night fell Zoku volunteered to take the first watch shift. Once it was Elise's turn she felt Ame poking her on the shoulder. "Your watch, then Winter's, then we pack up and get ready to go." It was very late at night, in the early hours of the morning. So far, no sign of the monsters. "How is the Messenger?" The black eagle asked, glancing over at it when she left the tent. "It's not moving, so it's probably resting until morning like us!" Ame grinned, yawned, then flopped onto her mattress. Elise sighed, sitting outside by the no-longer-lit campfire, rubbing at her wrist. It was sore, but her legs felt a little more familiar now.

An hour into her watch she heard something else familiar. Far in the distance, something was approaching. She sent a droplet of water to investigate for her, discovering small pack of eight wolf-ish monsters closing in, surrounding their camp in the mountains from four directions. She rang the bell to warn the others and wake them up, hitting the bell with the paddle. "Monsters have chased the Messenger here! We must defend it before it is injured again!" She called, rolling her eyes. The monsters had no idea they were about to clash against vassals, did they?

The meat was good, the fat having been rendered. It was flavored with only a few ingredients, but it still made a difference. A little over cooked because Zoku hadn't been fast enough in taking it off the heat, but not enough where it was tough and chewey. "What do you think?" Zoku wanted to know, "It's good, you did a great job." Winter replied, knowing that telling the truth would only hurt Zoku's feelings and make her never want to help again. Winter tossed some meat to the Messanger, which seemed more than happy to eat with them. She stripped her own skewer clean, hungry after a full day of adventuring across the Boundary. She headed to bed afterwards, being given the last shift. Winter gave the Messanger one last rub behind the ears before crashing in her tent, not even having the energy to change into pajamas. She was exhausted, having done a lot.

It was close to sunset when Elise rang the alarm bell, Winter rising groggily and rubbing her eyes. She pulled her prosthetic on, "Spirit armor," it was barely light outside when she stumbled out of her tent to see the others up and ready. "What is it?" Winter asked, "Wolves," Yuuki replied. Winter nodded, falling silent. She started to feel more awake as they waited for the wolves, their eyes glowing in the evening light. They were closing in on them, silly wolves. "Spirit bow," she switched her weapons, knowing that long range would be better. "Now!" Zoku yelled, they launched their arrows and ammunition on the wolves just when they emerged from the bushes. The Messanger reared its head, scared, but too tired to rise. The wolves turned into vapor, disappearing into the air.

"Crisis averted," for now at least. "I'll take the final watch, go get some rest Elise, Ame." Winter said to them, settling beside the Messanger. It nuzzled her hand with its head and she leaned against its warm body. "I'll wake you guys up when breakfast is ready." She wasn't tired anymore anyhow and figured that getting an early start to the day would help them, but she would allow the others to sleep more. "Warm," Winter murmured as she watched the sun rise. When it was bright enough, Winter went to the river and stripped off her clothes, bringing the bar of soap with her and a towel from her tent. Once she was clean, she started on the fire and hung her towel to dry. Winter fanned it with a plate and started getting it going.

There was some left over bacon that she put up, as well as some eggs she had stolen from a bird's nest and some hard cheese from the town. "This should be good," the Messanger had fallen asleep, Winter keeping an eye on it to make sure it didn't run away. "Breakfast!" She called, hoping the others would wake up soon. She put up some hot water over the fire, waiting for it to boil and using it to make tea from the tea bags in her backpack. The Messanger hobbled over, blinking at Winter expectantly. "Yes, you will get some too," she promised, waiting for the others before doling it out onto plates, a portion left for their new friend, who sat beside the tree trunks they were perched on and ate with glee.

Other than the incident with the wolves attacking the Messenger, the night was quiet and peaceful. Elise woke to the early morning, rubbing her eyes. She was roused by Winter's calling for breakfast, near the break of dawn. "We are coming." Elise replied, fixing her outfit and summoning water to rinse her body, making sure swas dry, then, fully clothed, exited the tent. "Good mroning. It smells rather nice today." The Messenger was still here with them, legs still bandaged, but looking happier than before. It seemed as if they had earned it's trust over the period of yesterday. "And hello to you too. Do you have a name?" She looked up at the golden blue stag, offering it a little smile before sitting down to eat. It made an odd sort of happy grunting sound, it's tail tuft twitching on it's rear end.

The Messenger even had some of Winter's tea before the end. "Thanks again for the delicious food! I should marry you for your cooking!" Ame giggled, happily slurping her tea then burping loudly. "Manners, Ame, what have I taught you?" Ame frowned, narrowing her eyes. "I'm not a noble, I can do what I want!" She finished eating heartily and Elise had to use a handkerchief to wipe her mouth by the end. Zoku and Yuuki also paid their compliments to the chef and the Messenger hobbled towards Winter as if to lean it's side against hers. Was this an animal show of thanks? "Messenger, we will be packing up and leaving soon. Would you mind if we followed you to your destination?" The Messenger made a breathing snort kind of noise but did not appear to object to the idea.

Following the Messenger would provide them with a direct link towards what may just be Olympia. if not, then perhaps even someone who could guide them in the correct direction. Which Heir was responsible for leading the Messenger here and why? What message was it going to deliver? "You're going to get wrinkles if you think too hard." Ame giggled, patting her on the shoulder. "We're all done packing up, so let's get ready to move. You don't wanna be a slow bird, would you?" Upon hearing that, the Messenger stood up to it's full height, kicked back one of it's hooves, and began to walk westward, opposite of the sunrise behind them.

"It seems to have given us permission to follow." Zoku observed, watching as the Messenger paused on the westward road, as if waiting for something or someone. "Then we should remain in pace with it before it changes it's mind." Elise stepped towards the Messenger, shadowing it's steps as it once again began to move. The black eagle glanced back at the others to ensure they were following along. Who was behind this? Could this really be simply a happy coincidence? There was still a lot to unpack, but for now it seemed fine to play along.

Was it fate? A stroke of luck? Cheating? Winter wasn't sure. The Messanger had given them permission to follow. It nodded its great neck, bowing its head. As though it was beckoning them to come forth. Winter excitedly placed her bag on her back. "I guess that's a yes," they would need to keep pace, as Elise said, which meant no falling behind. This was troublesome, as the Messanger could take paths that they could not. For example it had no issues stepping over bushes or winding through rivers, but the rest of them had to pick their way carefully across these paths. "It seems to be getting wilder," the path they were taking was not one well traveled. It took them through a field over flowing with Queen Anne's Lace and then through the entrance of a village. That made sense of course, as it had to deliver its message.

"We should probably restock while the Messanger finishes its job. We should split up, so at least one of us always has our eyes on it." Winter pointed out, not wanting them to lose it. "We'll do it! Pick us!" Ame volunteered, waving her hand through the air like a maniac. "Okay, Ame and Elise will keep an eye on the Messanger. Winter, Zoku, and I will gather supplies." Yuuki elected, taking the initiative. "Any complaints?" Winter looked aorund to see if Elise was alright with that. Once the matter was settled, Winter began to explore the market. This one sold completely different items then the one they had explored beforehand. It was a bit larger as well. "What do we need?" Zoku questioned, seeming to want to get this over with. They had a walkie talkie to keep in contact with Ame and Elise, in case they needed to rush.

"Vegetables, meat, bread, things that won't expire too." If they could get some more spices, Winter would be happy, since salt and pepper was good, but they could use more flavor. "Let's see, this looks good." Winter poked the meat with a finger to make sure it was tender. "I'm sure everyone will like this," she picked up two loaves of bread, more hard cheese, some butter, some eggs, and various vegetables. The walkie talkie began to crackle, their signal to meet up with the others. The Messanger had delivered the scroll it had been carrying, it was time for it to return back to its home. "This is exciting, it's a lot faster than I thought." Winter admitted as they began to exit the village. Could it really be this easy? Was it a sign? Was Winter perhaps going to actually meet her Father? Her stomach bubbled with excitement.

The sun was beginning to go down, the Messanger was starting to tire. It picked the final spot for them, a small clearing in the middle of the woods. "I guess we're setting up here for the night, any objections?" Winter asked, making sure there were none before placing her bag down. It was a nice spot, high and dry. There were plenty of sticks for them to collect and build a fire as well. "I'll work on the fire," Zoku volunteered. "I'll start setting up tents," Winter elected. "Elise, do you want to help me?" Since setting up tents was a two man job. Elise seemed to have more energy today, which was good.

Walking was a little easier now, she was starting to remember how to move her legs, how her knees were supposed to bend, how to turn her ankles to keep balance. She would miss it, and would make sure to enjoy it as best as she could until their mission in the Boundary was over. They made good progress, keeping up as best as they could with the Messenger, even though their small feet were not meant to travel the paths and roads the Messenger preferred to walk. Eventually they made it to another town and Winter wanted to do some shopping. The Messenger was resting now, after having delivered a message. "Then we will wait here." Elise said with a small smile, sitting herself down on a rock with some shade, putting the rosewood cane in her lap. Ame giggled, pouring herself some water she made herself to drink and freshen up.

After giving Winter a small list of materials Elise would need to modify her plans for a Portal Generator to make it able to run without relying on a river to power it, she began to relax, glancing over at the Messenger. It was looking at Ame as she created water for herself, licking it's lips. "I believe it may be thirsty." Ame made a face, her twin tails rising behind her. "But that's my water! It's a Messenger, shouldn't it have more pride than to beg?" Ame still sprinkled water over to the Messenger and it happily licked what it could from the air, it's tongue long and almost tube-like. "Perhaps quenching the thirst is more important than pride." Ame frowned, rolling her eyes. "It sure was happy to give us the stink eye before we decided to help it out." It seemed to mostly want to ignore them before, but now regarded them almost as travel companions, at least for the coming journey ahead.

Regrouping with Winter, Zoku, and Yuuki, it was time for them to get moving again. Eventually they followed the Messenger to a resting point where it knelt down in the grass, resting in the cool shade of the hillside. "There is a lot more food, I am excited to see what you will come up with." Elise said to Winter as she stood to offer a helping hand in looping ropes through the holes to raise the tents properly. Ame was playing with the Messenger, giving it water and telling it jokes it may or may not understand, and Zoku and Yuuki appeared to be discussing something a little serious as they gathered firewood.

Once the fire was ready and the camp was set up, the five of them gathered in the middle, hungry, tired, but satisfied. "So what were you two seriousheads chatting about?" Ame asked, poking her pale face in. "We were discussing the plan once we reach Olympia, since it might be coming up sooner than scheduled." Yuuki explained, looking away from his hands. Finding the Messenger truly was a strike of good luck. "How will we convince Zeus that Winter really is one of his children?"[/color] Elise queried, knowing that that was the big concern. "Hopefully there's some sort of family resemblance psychic connection." Ame smirked, chewing on one of the spare sticks Yuuki found.

"I'm gonna try making stir fry tonight." Winter decided, since they had all of the ingredients for it now. She was excited to try her hand at it. Cultural food wasn't something Winter's Grandmother had taught her, after all. With the tents pitched, they assisted in looking for sticks. "You want sticks that are dry," Winter explained to Elise, "if it can snap in half, it's good. If it has a bend to it, it can't be used." Sticks with water still inside of them would only put out the fire. They needed kindling, a small amount of leaves, and some larger logs. The Messanger watched them set up, resting its head in the grass. Once the fire was built, she put up a pot of water, allowing it to come to a boil. Once it reached a boiling point, Winter added the rice and took to chopping vegetables in the meantime.

Once the rice was ready, Winter took it off the heat to rest and began to cook the meat over the fire. She flavored it with salt and pepper, then added it to the rice and added the vegetables. The finishing touches were some seasoning and an egg that got mixed in. "Alright, it's ready!" Winter announced, putting up another pot of water so that they could have tea or coffee with it. She sat down on the bench after doling out the food, the Messanger heartily devouring its portion. Winter found it interesting that it looked like a stag, but ate like a scavanger. Perhaps it would take what it could get? In any case, she was just happy it would escort them to Olympia. What was it like? Winter wondered. Yuuki and Zoku had made it sound grand with its large golden gates that concealed it from those who were not welcome.

Winter was quite certain that Zeus did not know she existed. How else would he have just left her mother to raise Winter on her own? Not that Winter's mother did much raising, all things considered. Still, Winter was certain that if Zeus had known that her Mother was pregnant, he would not have simply left her. "Heir's can be thousands of years old," Yuuki began to explain, "but it was outlawed a long time ago that we were no longer allowed to have affairs with humans. I'm sure if Winter brings up her Mother, it'll jog his memory. He'll probably deny it, knowing Zeus." Her fingers curled around her teacup, "Then I'll just have to make him remember, or slip up." It wasn't a solid plan, but it was something to get her started, at least.

What if he was disappointed in her? Winter wondered. Had he watched what had happened in the Chrysanthemum? Would he be proud of her? Embarrassed? Did he know at all what she had gone through? "I'm nervous," Winter admitted. "What if he doesn't like me? Does it matter? What if he hates me?" What if he flat out rejected and refused to acknowledge her existence? Will the trip have been for nothing? The Messanger, as though sensing her unease, lifted its head onto her lap, resting its heavy skull there. Winter sighed, running a hand through its fur. "I guess there's no sense in worrying about it now. We don't even know how close we are." They could still be days away from reaching the golden gates of Olympia.

Elise was glad to help Winter, and in return, receive advice about the right sticks and twigs to use to keep the fire strong. They talked about Zeus then and what they would do to have Winter be recognized as his child, but so far there was no answer to that. "Then we can worry about Zeus when we get there." Elise said with a tiny smile. "There is nothing we can do until then regardless, so let us not worry about it." With luck, Winter would be able to prove it somehow, or maybe Zeus would have the grace to recognize her, but one way or another, they would not know until then. They went to bed after a hearty dinner, and the journey continued ever onwards. The Messenger continued to lead them on its path, traveling to some unknown destination.

Two days later they came across another village, where the Messenger seemed to have another task. "Might as well stock up on food again." Yuuki sighed, putting his hands in his pockets. Once they were done with the mountain village they continued onwards, even running into another monster ambush. "Why does everything hate Messengers?!" Ame asked in exasperation, falling to her knees after they fought off a dragon. "If Messengers work with Heirs, and Heirs are the enemies of monsters, it does make sense." The Messenger was still injured, so it could not truly defend itself. The black eagle lost her rosewood cane in the battle but found she no longer needed it. "I can walk mostly normally it seems." She said to Winter with some excitement. "How is your leg doing? Are you still okay?"

The third time they ended up by a village, this time bigger with four roads coming from all sides, they were welcomed by the populace. "The Messenger and the Message Guardians are here!" They chanted, even singing some unearthly hymn for them. "Looks like word of us traveling with the Messenger got around." Zoku seemed almost pleased, a grin on her face. "Maybe the rumors will spread to Olympia and save us a lot of trouble." Ame giggled, pleased with the performance they were being given. "Maybe the Heir behind this will even be thankful for protecting its Messenger!" It would be nice if that could be the case, though for now they had no choice but to follow the creature until it took them to Olympia's golden light.

The next day they had traveled even farther north, and the Messenger had stopped in front of a lake shrouded in ice and mist. It was frigid - thankfully Yuuki thought ahead and bought everyone wooly cloaks to wear over their normal clothing. "Oh, it's moving. We should pack up and get ready." It was odd - why was the Messenger moving again? It was night time now, normally it would stop to rest. With a sigh, the stag stepped into the lake, then glanced back at them expectantly. "It appears to want us to get on its back." Elise hugged the cape closer to her, looking up at the sky. "The sky is particularly clear here. You can count the stars." This was frankly, beautiful, a sight to never forget.

After they settled on the Messenger's furry back, it began to slowly walk through the lake, moving ever onwards to it's destination. Suddenly, Elise felt a starnge sensation, pressure on her lips, and pain on her waist. "El? You okay, what's up?" She grimaced, frowning. "Unsure. Is something happening to me in the near shore?" Would someone be touching her lips? Maybe Ezra was becoming impatient? "It is a little painful, but I am alright." She sat down, choosing to take in the sight instead of wasting this opportunity. "Remember to get some rest." Yuuki said after a yawn. "Since I suspect we'll have to keep walking once morning comes." It would take them all night to reach the other side of the near boundless lake.
