Winter is rather unremarkable in appearance. She is average height, a bit thin, a little bit lanky. Her eyes are her only unique feature, purple, ever since the day of the incident. Her leg was supposed to be amputated, but the Doctors managed to save it. She walks with a limp, due to this. Her skin marred with the scars of her biggest regret. If only she had said no, if only she had gone alone that day. Winter is not self conscious of her scars, or of her body. She sleeps with gloves at night to protect her hands, her most precious asset. She wears clothing that her Grandparents got her and prefers vintage fashion more than anything else, as it was her Grandmother's favorite. She has a handful of old heirlooms, from the way the world used to be. Her cane used to be her Grandfather's, whittled by hand in his favorite rocking chair. Winter doesn't care what others think, she is her own person.

Even if Winter thinks she is average, her features are remarkable. Porcelain skin, white lashes and eyebrows, dainty lips. She looks like one of those hand painted dolls, with delicate fingers and moves with a grace that only those with tragedy can carry themselves with.

For the very first time, there I see
Someone with the same pains as me
Having done this time and time again
She wore a yellow cardigan
"I just wanna stop the scars that grow
Ev-e-ry-time that I go home"
"That's why I came up here instead"
That's what the girl in the cardigan said
Whoa, wait a minute what did I just say?
I couldn't care less either way
But in the moment I just screamed
Something that I did not believe
"Hey, don't do it please!"

Aah what to do?
I can't stop this girl, oh this is new
For once I think I've bitten off more than I can chew
But even so please just go away so I can't see
Your pitiful expression is just too much for me!
"I guess today is just not my day"
She looked away from me and then she disappeared

The Chrysanthemum

{☛ ⒻⒶⓂⒾⓁⓎ ☚}

{☛ ⒽⒾⓈⓉⓄⓇⓎ ☚}
Winter doesn't remember her birth parents. Her earliest memories are of her Grandparents, raising her to be the best she could be. Winter was friendly, she had plenty of friends, kids didn't care, after all, that she lived with ther Grandparents. In fact, they thought it was rather cool. Winter's Grandparents were doting, they lived in the quiet countryside of Chrysanthemum, a boring, uneventful life, but Winter wouldn't have it any other way. Everyday was the same, working on a farm meant getting up early and going to sleep late. Winter would help feed the chickens, milk the cows, and chase the foxes out of the hen house. It was a quiet life, a peaceful one, one Winter wouldn't trade for anything in the world.

Then one day, her Grandparents enrolled her in music classes. They thought Winter needed a hobby and had heard that musical theory would help her math grades. Her teacher was a kind old woman named Addison Briar who had taught famous musicians in the big city. Winter enjoyed her lessons, but she could never stick to one instrument. Every day, she would pick a new one. The harpsicord, the violin, the piano, the bass. Her heart became attuned to every instrument she touched and her music teacher urged her Grandparents to send her to the big city. It would mean selling their farm, it would mean leaving behind everything they ever knew and loved. They held off, wanting Winter to have a peaceful life and giving that stability to her for as long as possible.

Her grades began to jump up, she was doing well in school, in music, with her friends. A social butterfly that was never seen without people by her side. Then the day came, her Grandparents sold their farm for a hefty price, they could retire in the city and live an easy life while sending Winter to the large academy the Chrysanthemum City Center had for gifted students. She was eager to attend, with her cute new uniform and sparkling shoes. Winter was an instant hit, she made friends abound, who were attracted to her outsider accent and easy smile. She was happy with her new life, her Grandparents enjoying their easy life of playing games with their new friends and taking care of the dog they had brought with them.

A note was tapped to their door, a concert. At first, Winter didn't want to go, she didn't want to fall behind on her homework, but her friends convinced her and her Grandparents, having never been to a concert before, were intruiged. They all went together, Winter excited and nervous. They were sitting as a group when the bomb went off. Winter was separated from her Grandparents, she remembered the white hot light and heat from the bomb. She remembered praying, hoping for things to be okay. She remembered a shrine gate appearing before her and crossing through it, a gentle snow. When Winter awoke, she was in an unfamiliar place, a hospital, guarded by two government agents. She had caused a blizzard in the middle of spring, they thought she was working with the terrorists.

After being acquited of all charges, she was allowed to return to school, but Winter was now under their surveillance. She had a permanent limp now and walked with a cane. Winter was eager to return home, only to discover that her Grandparents had died. Her dog too, was gone, having been taken in by a shelter. Her belongings were all packed in several neat boxes. No one had bothered to tell Winter, in all of this, that her Grandparents were dead. There was another blizzard that day, in the middle of fall. Winter began to withdraw from everyone, she skipped classes, her grades began to slip, it didn't matter, her friends were all dead. She spent most of her time in the music room, her hands raw from practice. She would sleep with gloves, skipping school altogether to compete, to crush the competition, to try to feel alive again.

Elise figured it would not be a bad idea to join the tour, because this would be her new home and all. Winter really did end up doing well for herself. This Zed Heir seemed to be trustworthy - if he was going to do something untoward to Winter, he would have done so already anyhow. Given he was willing to let her stay here as a guest, perhaps not all Heirs were as conceited as they appeared to be. They were at the library now, with tall stacks of shelves and books lining the walls. Who knows how much literature was waiting here to be devoured? Elise was never a big reader, but it never hurt to pick up a new hobby. Now that she was dead, she had all the time in the world.

After shuffling through a few of the books available, there were some titles that caught her eye. "Anatomy of Servants..." She murmured, pulling the hood down from her head to glance about. If she were to study that maybe she could learn more about the kind of creature she had become. "Are you worried because you're not human anymore?" Ezra grinned at her, taller, more muscular, and more handome than before. Once he was like a roguish boy, now, a confident man was in those eyes, someone sure of his place and purpose. "I would like to know more about what I am." Apparently she was a kind of Moirai, but unique in that she served Kore instead of anyone else. "Though my specifics may not be here, I can still research Moirai and see what shows up." Ezra looked at her a bit curiously then, putting his hand on her head, rubbing at her horns. It tickled and she frowned, as it was a little painful. "They are sensitive, please be careful." Why was she blushing? Has it not been years?

"I just wanted to feel them, sorry!" This Ezra was changed from the one she knew before. Why was he so calm about this? Why did he look so happy? "If you're wondering why I'm happy, I figure, an Elise I can talk to and spend time with is better than one that I can never see again. I don't care what you are, but what's important is that you're here now." She was still dead, could someone dead really be with someone still alive? "You and Serenity still have lives on Earth... you cannot stay here for-" Ezra's smile was patient. "We can talk about that another time, let's not be rude and ignore our host giving her tour!" It was about lunch time soon, so Winter was going to take them to the dining room. "The library's truly wonderful. I hope I have a chance to read in here some time." Serenity smiled brightly, following Winter's lead.

Zed was waiting for them at the dining room, and Zoku was there too. Perhaps they had Heir business to talk about. Elise found herself sitting by Winter, who asked her how she was feeling. "Tired. Ezra is a little..." She frowned, not sure how to formulate her thoughts properly. "Different. More sure of himself. But I am still the me from two years ago." Before she had always been ahead of Ezra, smarter, quicker, more mature. She did not know how to handle being a step behind now. "How about you? Zed has been taking care of you..." Seeing the bright smile on Winter's face it was clear there was no need to worry. "It is clear he has been doing a good job."

|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

Zed was sitting at the head of the table, Zoku sitting at the opposite end. The two of them were discussing things, no doubt Heir business. Winter did not ten dto get involved in that sort of thing, since it was still over her head. She sat beside Zed, Elise on her other side. "Hello my red tulip," Zed took her hand, kissing her palm. "Hello my love," Winter replied, giggling. The two were like two birds in love, Winter's shy blush indicative of her feelings for her fiance. She turned back towards Elise, as she began to speak. Elise was still tired, "overbearing?" Winter finished for her, since she knew that Ezra often jumped the gun on anything and everything. Apparently, that was not what Elise meant. She nodded, "He definitely does seem different," it had been a surprise to Winter to see how much he and Serenity had grown and matured.

Winter on the other hand, looked exactly the same. Even Elise had changed somewhat, with her being granted a new position. How was she? Winter thought to herself for a moment. "It was horrible at first," she admitted. "After I realized you were gone, I was wrought with grief. I didn't leave the room for days," she looked down at her plate, an appetizer with edible flowers arranged around it. "Then Zed started coming to check on me, he would make sure I would eat and would drag me out of bed, even if I didn't want to leave." Winter had never learned to grieve properly. So when Elise had passed, Winter had no idea how to react. She had been emotionally stunted for a long period of time. Now, it seemed as though Winter smiled more. She was brighter, somehow.

"We just sort of... fell into a comfortable pattern after that," she looked at the ring on her finger, the small diamonds on a silver band, arranged in the shape of a flower. Zed squeezed her hand. "I want you to come to the wedding, obviously." She bubbled, never having pictured herself in a position like this. Engaged, soon to be married. Winter didn't think that she would ever fall in love. Not after being made to believe her entire life that she was a monster. "I wish everyone could be there," but that was impossible. Even Ezra and Serenity would likely be home by the time Winter and Zed were married. Still, it was a nice thought.

After dessert was brought out, Winter finished giving them the tour. She showed them the kitchen, the parlor, and the music hall, where her instruments were neatly arranged around the room. It wasn't a hall so much as a beautiful open space where a few seats had been arranged around the area for people to sit and listen. "Oh, will you play something?" Serenity asked, taking a seat. "It's been so long since I've heard you play anything!" She smiled, Winter nodding. "Sure, I would be happy to." She picked up her violin, "any requests?" She inquired.

Winter was definitely treated with love and care. Any doubts Elise may have had about Zed dissipated at the glow on her friend's cheeks. Winter almost looked fulfilled. After Hades killed her, and Yuuki and Zoku were unable to reach her, it was Zed who filled the void and gave Winter warmth and affection. As for Ezra, Winter agreed that he had changed. "I suppose I will have to get used to him." She said, picking at her food. Were they still together? There was a lot they would have to discuss. Elise did not think it was possible. She was dead after all, and he had a full life to live. As always, she was never one to eat strange food easily. It was good, but at this point it was definitely a habit of hers now. "Maybe the other Heirs can come if you ask your father." Ame, Yuuki, should they not have earned permission yet, would definitely want to attend.

To end the tour off, Winter would show them her musical repertoire. It was easy to forget that Winter was not only good at the piano, but was a prodigy in many different musical instruments. Elise was a refined young noble, so she knew of music, even if she did not have the talent herself. "Do you know Brahms? Can you play Hungarian Dance in F Minor?" The soft and elegant crescendos were always a favorite of hers. "It was a song I heard once in the social functionos from when I was a child." No doubt Winter could outmatch even those experts and breathe new life into the song. With great applause as the song ended, Elise decided to call it a night. She bid everyone goodnight, and Ezra and Serenity left as well, to return to Zoku's flat, both singing praises at Winter's talent.

As it turned out, Elise had quite a few new abilities bestowed on her. She could not directly control fate like the official Moirai could, but she could affect the strings attached to Sinners to condemn them or grant them salvation from their punishments, on top of her new affinity for mist and fog. "This ball is the locus of your powers." Kore told her before leaving back to Hell to continue her duties there. "You can use it to travel anywhere you want, but it'll consume your soul, so you'll have to go back to Hell to heal it back up." Kore explained, a grey ball seemingly made of solid fog floating on Elise's new nightstand. "And there's another function too!"

The next morning, after practicing at controlling the mist a little, Elise met Winter at the breakfast hall, hopefully not interrupting her romantic time with Zed. "Come here for a second, let me see if this works." She pressed her forehead to Winter's, then released after a moment, putting a tiny potion of mist into Winter's body. "Kore said as long as I have the mist in you, if you ever call for me, I will be able to hear you and be at your side at a moment's notice." She had a feeling she knew how it worked. The mist placed in Winter's body was almost like a portal she could travel through to reach her if there were ever an emergency. No doubt she could also return to wherever her mist ball was as well.

"So if something happens and I'm resting in Hell, call my name and I will help you as best as I can." Winter no longer had the snow and neither did Elise the rain, but with her new set of tools she would continue supporting her friend's hopes for a happy life in the Boundary.

|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

"Of course I know Brahm," Winter's smile was gentle. She picked up her violin, doing a quick check for tuning. It was force of habit, even if her newfound power allowed any instrument she touched to be able to play perfectly. Winter started out slowly, then, as she got more into it, played a bit faster. Her body moved with the music, her eyes closed as she played. "How was that?" She asked when she was finished, opening them to applause. It seemed that they quite liked it, which Winter was glad for. After that, it was growing late. Winter hugged Zoku, Serenity, and Ezra tightly. She escorted Elise back to her room for the evening, hugging her friend goodnight. Zed was waiting for her in front of her room. They did not share a room yet, as Iris did not find it appropriate, but they still spent plenty of evenings together.

"I have a surprise," he took her hand. "Oh? What is it?" One of the elves draped a shawl around her shoulders, in case it was chilly. "You'll see," his demeanor was calm, giving nothing away. Winter nudged him with her shoulder. "I hate it when you do that," he had a hint of a smile as he led her outside, through the garden and to the pond. "What are we doing out here?" Winter asked, realizing that a fire had been started. "This," he stepped aside, revealing a plate set out. "Smores!" Winter squealed in delight. "You told me about it, so I had Nemia go and get me everything we needed to make them. Now, show me how to smores." He rolled up the sleeves of his shirt, pulling her into his lap.

It was late when they finally went back inside, Winter kissing Zed goodnight. When morning came and she was awoken by the ladies, Winter was still exhausted. She yawned, taking a bath in the tub that had a waterfall in the bathroom, then brushing her teeth with one of the mint tabs. "Gotta get ready," Winter groaned, shuffling back into her room where the ladies were waiting for her. "Something more casual today, Lady Winter?" Nemia asked, smiling. "Anything is fine, I don't think I'm leaving the estate today." Winter remarked, sitting in her chair as her hair was tugged and pulled every which way. It was a relief to be done, since waiting just outside of her room was Zed. "You're as radiant as a rose," he smiled, his touch gentle as he tucked a rose behind her ear. "And you're as handsome as they come," she stood on her tip toes, their height difference something to behold.

"Oh Elise, good morning!" Winter saw her friend and ran to greet her. Winter wondered what Elise was doing as she pressed her forehead against Winter's own. Winter felt cold for a moment, before it receeded and she glanced at Elise, wondering what she did. "Well, hopefully I won't ever be in danger." While Winter's new found power was nice, she hadn't exactly found it useful for battle, at least, not yet. She could manipulate soundwaves, but she had not explored that talent as much.

Elise inserted some mist into Winter, hopefully that would be enough of a conduit to let her travel back and forth. Did it work? She felt a bit of a connection with Winter now, but they would only know for sure once Winter called her by name in a moment of need. "But it never hurts to be wary. You are in a very enviable position right now." Next in line to be wife to Olympia's head, it would not be a surprise if anyone was aiming for her head. "You will be in the center of Olympian politics eventually." By then, would Winter be prepared? Elise had faith that Zed and the others would see her through. Elise was not sure about her power yet, she had a feeling Kore transformed her like this out of convenience. So far it seemed practical, but she would never be as powerful as she was when she used Ame's rain.

Her heart burned a little, longing for her lazy irresponsible friend. How was Ame now? "Have you ever seen Ame since?" She asked, picking unhappily at her food. It tastes good, but she still was not a big eater. "I know she has been staying with Neptune. Is she leaving her room?" Ame chose Elise because they were similar. They both chose to exile themselves in their rooms, shut out from the world. Zed was patiently letting them talk but Elise knew than to be a nuisance. "Thank you for allowing me house and board for now." She offered Zed a bow. "I will take my leave - I should practice and train to be a proper Servant." There was a lot she needed to do to get used to her new self.

The black eagle found herself in the garden. A few of the elf maids were looking at her curiously, watching from a distance. "Look at that white cloak! It's a Servant of Kore!" They whispered among themselves, though Elise paid them no mind. "She's tethered to the Underworld, why is she here?" She ignored them, sighing. She definitely felt stronger with her hood on, like she was more connected to the mist that she and Kore shared this way. "I wonder..." She imagined a gun in her hands, and focused on drawing mist into her fingers. Eventually a foggy sort of shape appeared, vague and indistinct. Maybe she needed a stronger image, or better focus? It took a few more tries but finally, a sleek sort of pistol appeared in her hands, almost like a revolver with it's barrel. She created another structure, a plate to catch the bullet with.

Bang! Slower than a real bullet, but a ball of mist shot out and fused together with the mist plate. "So it does fire. Interesting." She tried a few more effects, but finally, decided that the gun was her favorite. Swords, lances, they were not her type, and they used up too much. "Hey, be careful!" Ezra's voice called out to her, catching her before she fainted. "Didn't Kore say if you used too much, you'd consume your soul energy?" She blinked, nodding. "I mean, yes." She frowned. "But then I can return to Hell and recharge." Ezra took her hand in his, a big hand on her waist for support. "A fancy brat like you deserves better than to live in a place of fire and Sinners." Elise gave him a little smile, not wanting to feel suffocated. "You know not all of Hell is like that, right?" Heirs and Servants lived their time in the nicer areas, away from the fire and brimstone. What was he doing here? Did Zoku come back and bring Ezra and Serenity to visit?

|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

"I know," Winter sighed, not needing a reminder of her position. She knew just how much people would kill to be in her shoes. Fortunately for her, Zed was neither a flirt nor a ladies man. He was respectful, sometimes overly so. He did not care to speak with women, which Winter was certain was how she ended up with him, because they did not need to talk, they could simply sit comfortably in silence. "Trust me, I already know plenty about the Olympian Politics," Winter said as she took a sip of POG juice. It was passion fruit, orange juice, and guave mixed. It was quite good and she liked to start the day with it. It was a specialty of Zed's, something he often served guests. "No, I haven't seen Ame. Not since the ball," Winter admitted, "I haven't seen any of them, at least until yesterday."

Elise abruptly rose, excusing herself to go and train to be a proper servant, whatever that meant. "O-okay, I'll see you later." Winter watched her leave, it was just her and Zed now. "The benefit is tonight," he reminded her, finishing his breakfast. "You've barely touched your food," he said pointedly. "I'm just a little nauseous," she replied, averting her gaze. He placed a hand gently on top of her's, drawing circles on it with a finger. "It's not nerves," he said, knowing that Winter never got nervous. "No, it's probably just about my body being missing," he nodded. "As soon as they find your body, I'll know." Winter swallowed hard, the juice no longer seemed appealing either. "Take it easy, alright?" Winter nodded. "Do you have work today?" Normally Zed spent the days advising Zeus and preparing to take over. "Not if you don't want me to have any." He winked, to which she smiled.

They walked to the music room, the two of them sitting on the piano bench together. "Show me," Zed nudged her. "Only a little bit," Winter teased. She played the cords from an original song she was composing, just a tidbit. Zed laughed, drawing her onto his lap and kissing her temple, trailing kisses down her neck as she giggled until a knock came from the door. "Lady Winter?" Nemia cleared her throat, "it's time to prepare for the benefit." Winter nodded, rising, "Yes, of course." She smoothed down her dress, Zed winking at her as she glanced back. The ladies were all buzzing over something, but Winter wasn't sure what until she saw the dress. "Isn't it a bit much?" She inquired as she was helped into the dress.

"Not at all!" Nemia insisted, fixing Winter's hair. "Iris picked it out herself. It's the perfect dress for introducing yourself as soon-to-be-married. Plus, you're performing tonight, you are meant to be a centerpiece." Winter rolled her eyes, but if Iris had picked it, there was not much she could do. Zed was waiting for her outside of the room, "Ready?" He asked, wearing a suit the color of the flowers on Winter's dress and a matching gold tie. "Yes," she replied, taking his offered hand. "Are the others coming?" The others meaning Zoku, Ezra, Serenity, and Elise. "I'm not sure, I saw Elise in the garden, but unless Kore is going, more than likely she probably would not be."

It was upsetting that she still had not had a chance to see Ame yet - not even Winter had had a chance to catch a glimpse of her erstwhile friend. It was an odd feeling however to see Ezra accosting her in the garden, holding her so that she would not fall. He guided her to a bench and helped her sit, the black eagle panting slightly, her head swimming. "How are you here? Does Zoku really have that much free time?" The breeze was gentle as the many colorful flowers swayed in this one-of-a-kind garden. "We're actually here to inform you that Zoku accepted Zed's invitation to the benefit tonight." Ezra explained, reaching for her hand. He was much more confident now, but did he not realize how impossible this relationship was going to be? The benefit, apparently Winter was going to be there. "Kore told me that I could attend if I wished." Because Kore could travel quickly across long distances, she would be able to attend if she so fancied as well. Ezra nodded, then continued. "Serenity's trying to find her Heir, Hibi, too, but we're not sure what happened to her just yet."

"How about Chikyu?" Elise tilted her head, glancing at him. His jaw was stronger, firmer. His hair slightly greyed despite his young age, barely into adulthood. He was bigger than before, how tall would he become? He already towered over her back then too, though Elise had always been short, and her growth stopped at a young age thanks to the enhanced genetics. Her mother had custom-designed her every detail, after all, including the unnaturally red eyes. "Still looking for her too. To be honest, we haven't been able to find most of the other Heirs yet." Ezra explained. While he had been in contact with Yuuki and Ame and obviously Zoku had taken them in under her wing, the others had seemingly vanished. Maybe they were spread off to the other corners of the Boundary. "Part of the reason why we came to Olympia was to find clues."

But why did Zoku want to gather the old team again? Their job was done, the Doctor was now suffering for his sins in the Underworld, what else was there for them? "Well, they still have to submit a report to Olympia. The Major Heirs assigned the tasks to us and chose them, so now they need to report back on the details of the mission." It seemed like there was a system in place here. Who knew the Boundary would have some sort of bureaucracy? "Since each of the Heirs were responsible for a different Vassal, Zoku wants to find everyone so they can make sure to write up a good report." There were still some Heirs missing. Chikyu was one, and Kaze, Mercedes's Heir, was another. Serenity still hoped to find Hibi. "What about Sabaku and Kazan?" Carter and Oliver's Heirs respectively, Sand and Fire. Ezra shook his head. "We found Kazan in another village by the mountains, he agreed to meet up with the others at the specified date." IT seemed Ezra and Serenity had been in the Boundary for quite some time then, helping Zoku round everyone up.

"How is Ame?" She wanted to know how her friend was doing, her silly and irresponsible Heir of Rainfall. Ezra smiled, as if expecting the question. "She's stubborn. She says she wants to relax in Neptune's Palace for the rest of her life, but we know she misses the adventure of being out." To think they even went to Aqueus. Only those Neptune approved of were allowed entry. "I hope to see her again." Ezra's smile only grew. "Well, I heard Neptune would be forcing his lazy niece out to the benefit tonight. I think you might just have a chance to meet her again." She would? That would certainly be exciting. "Then I suppose I should go get ready."

"If they're coming, I'm sure they'll meet us there." Zed said, ushering Winter into the carriage. She nodded, following him and sitting down across from him. He smiled at her, then glanced out the window as the carriage began to move. Winter wore a pair of silk gloves and tapped keys on her thigh as they rode, the benefit hall not too far from Zed's estate. As they left the rolling hills, Winter sighed and leaned her head on her hand, her elbow on the windowsill. "What's wrong?" Zed asked, but Winter didn't have a definite answer. "I thought that if Elise came back, I would be over joyed, but it just feels like... there's a gap between us." Zed switched benches, sitting next to her, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. "It's normal to feel a gap, you've grown and moved on. She's changed, nothing is the same Winter, you can't expect relationships to magically repair the moment your friend returns from the dead."

"I know, it's silly to expect that but... it feels different." She shook her head, wondering if she was the one that had changed. "Well, I know what will cheer you up." Zed gestured to the benefit hall, "playing some wonderful music for all of Olympia to hear." He kissed her temple as the carriage reached the red carpet that had been rolled out. Olympians were something like celebrities, their photos were taken and published all around the Boundary during events like this. "Wow," it was Winter's first time at the benefit hall. It was large and diamond shaped, with open windows all around. There were roses floating in the air and a small stage in the center with a piano. "Are you going to play your new song?" Zed inquired as they stopped for a photo. He didn't smile, so neither did Winter.

"Yes, I probably will," she replied as he brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. Iris met them just inside. Zoku was there, along with Serenity. Winter didn't see Ezra, but she figured he was not far. "Oh, you got the dress. It looks stunning," Iris marveled, "do a twirl," Winter rolled her eyes, but obliged, giving a short twirl in the gown Iris had picked for her. "Wonderful and it goes perfectly with Zed's suit. Now everyone will now that you're an item," Winter thought the ring on her finger might indicate that. "Oh, why are you wearing those gloves? No one will be able to see the beautiful ring!" Iris practically screeched. "To preserve my hands, for the piano." She gestured to the grand piano, decorated with greenery.

Iris waved a hand, "nevermind that-" Zeus sidled up beside her, grinning from ear to ear. "How is my favorite daughter?" He inquired, "Good, we just got here," Winter smiled as her Dad knelt down to give her a hug. He and Zed exchanged nods, they already saw each other daily. Would Elise come? Winter certainly hoped so, she wanted her to hear the song Winter had written. Of course, she had composed this before Elise's revival, so it may be a bit embarrassing now. "I'm going to grab a drink, do you want anything?" Zeus asked them, "I'm alright, I should probably start playing." She went to the piano, Zed walking with her. "If you need anything, just wave, I'll be close by." He promised, giving her one last kiss before disappearing into the crowd.

"I'll see you at the benefit. Save a dance for me, okay?" With those words as parting Elise returned to her modest room in the left wing of Zed's palace. She took a deep breath, sighing, trying to control her heart's beats. "Calm down, or else Ame will laugh upon seeing you again." She told herself, straightening her face in the mirror. Once in her room again, the black eagle placed the long white shroud neatly on her bed, folding it. "Kore." She whispered, having a strang feeling. As if being summoned, the mist thickened in the room, only to dissipate and reveal Kore, in an odd state of undress, with nothing but a towel on, hair damp and face red. "Hello, Elise! I suppose you're ready to be dressed for the benefit?" Elise averted her gaze, wondering if it was rude to look.

"I am... but should you get dressed?" Kore giggled, almost sounding like the wind whistling in the air, her skin returning to it's normal glowing pale. "I was in the process of that! I came as quickly as I could, just in case you were in danger!" She smiled warmly, placing a hand on Elise's arm. "You're my first ever Servant, so I have to keep you safe, right?" Elise was her first and only? But Svarog did not seem to be particularly close to his mountain gnomes, nor Zed with the elf maids. Was there another reason, or was Kore really as kind as the rumors suggested? "You don't have to be suspicious! I just always liked the idea of being close to a Servant, and this is the first time one agreed! Most are afraid since don't want to live in Hell." That made sense - it was not an attractive job prospect, no matter how kind Kore may be, living in Hell did not seem to be a popular idea.

Kore waved her arm and something was pulled out of the mist. Was it made of mist like the gun Elise created, or was it just something Kore had prepared and ready? "This is the dress you will be wearing. It's white, so it'll match with what I had planned." The purple flower corsages added a spark of life and color as well. All in all the dress was very elegant and graceful. "Thank you." Her heart stung a little. Normally it was Claude who dressed her, but he would never be able to do that again, would he? Kore dressed her, humming a sweet tune as she did, styling Elise's hair in an elegant upto do compliment the dress.

The benefit hall was large and just as Kore said, like a diamond. There were famous faces here all around, but as Elise scanned around, she sighed, a little disappointed because she could not find Svarog. She needed to apologize for dying under his watch and not being more careful. Would the brash and jolly blacksmith care either way? She had a feeling he was not very affected by what had happened. People took pictures of Kore, who happily smiled, though Elise felt a little less sure about being photographed. "They are curious about who my Servant is, since I made it known long ago that I wanted one." Kore explained as people gave Elise stares. This time, without malice, only benign curiosity. Winter was with Zed as expected, but before the black eagle could catch her friend's gaze, Winter was called to by Zeus.

All of a sudden, someone jumped Elise from behind. She twisted, ready to attack when she saw the face looking back at her. "Elise! You're a Servant now! I heard you were dead, but I wasn't worried, I knew you were too stubborn to let anyone kill you, you stone brain!" Ame giggled, wearing a fluttery blue dress. She looked lively as ever, which was always reassuring. "I did die. I am dead, I am just living my afterlife now." She was made into a Servant and transformed, showing off her white pointed horns for Ame to see. "So you're with Kore now? Are you cheating on me?" Ame's eyes went big and sad but Elise shook her head. "You are welcome to visit any time. We can always be friends like before." Ame scowled, stamping her foot.

"Uncle Neptune needs me! I have an important job to do!" She protested, clearly blaming Neptune for her laziness. "Be polite. It is only thanks to Neptune you were able to come to Olympia today." Ame nodded, her face falling. "I hate thanking him. He has no style. You're much prettier than Uncle." Elise ruffled Ame's hair, seeing her almost like a bratty younger sister. "Winter is on the piano, I believe she is about to play." Ame looked over, beaming. "She's glowing. She has a ring now! Did you know, apparently Zed is a beast in be-" Ame broke into giggles, her face red. "If Winter is going to play, then may I take your hand for a dance?" Ezra entered, wearing a dashing suit, his hair geled to the side. He grinned, confidence oozing from every pore. She was a little dumbfounded but found her hand drifting towards his.

❝I put my arms around myself and I'm unbreakable.❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#BDA0CB ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #F7B3DA
|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

Winter tucked her silk gloves into a secret pocket in her dress. She settled on the piano bench, squaring her shoulders. There were a lot of eyes on her, but Winter was used to it. This was the sort of attention she thrived on, the kind that relied on her musical prowess. Here, she was not an Heir, not a Vassal, or an experiment. Here, she was a centerpiece. A diamond that glittered with the effort of her own hard work. Winter smiled to herself as her feet pushed down on the peddles and her fingers began to play on what felt like ivory keys. Were Elise, Ezra, and Serenity here to listen? Winter hoped so. She closed her eyes as she played, feeling the music flow through her. There was no reason to look around her or at the keys, Winter knew the piano by heart. She could play from memory, or by ear.

It was like magic drifting through the air as her song played, the debut of her original piece. There were no lyrics, but Winter did not need words to convey her message. This was the song she had written in memorium for Elise, before realizing that Elise was alive, but a bird. It was a song that celebrated her life, the keys as vibrant as her friend's personality. As sharp as her wisdom and as clear as her constant advice. When Winter opened her eyes, there were couples dancing on the designated dance floor, which lit up with each dancer. Winter watched, spotting two familiar faces. She smiled, turning back to the piano, glad they could be here, glad they could listen. "It sounds great," someone said from behind her. "Serenity," Winter smiled, giving her a slight nod of acknowledgement.

Winter did not expect anything great when she finished, merely a polite round of applause. She certainly did not expect a few elves to be crying. "That was beautiful," one of them said, taking Winter's hands in her own. "Thank you, I wrote it for my friend," Winter replied. Zed came with a piece of cake and a drink for Winter before she started the next song. She played three more songs before finishing, receiving a round of applause. She stepped off of the platform, the orchestra in the back beginning to play. Zed took her by the elbow, "that was wonderful," he praised, to which Winter smiled. "I'm glad you liked it. That was your first time hearing the full song, wasn't it?" She asked and he nodded. He spun Winter in a circle, smiling. "You're officially an Olympian socialite now."

She giggled, "if playing piano constitutes being a socialite then maybe it isn't as bad as you always say." He pulled her close, kissing her. Winter was vaguely aware of a camera snapping somewhere behind them. "You want to look for your friends, don't you?" He inquired, practically reading her mind. "Yes, if you don't mind?" He shook his head. "Although Iris might not think the same," her smile fell for a moment. That's right, while it was fine in private, Iris might not take too kindly if Winter hung out with servants in the public eye, especially a servant of Kore. She shook her head, it didn't matter. This was Elise, her best friend, practically her sister. Screw Olympian politics, Winter would spend as much time as she wanted to with her.

"There you guys are, I was worried you wouldn't be coming," she said in relief upon finding Ezra and Elise.

The music began, soft, soulful, almost as if Winter was baring her soul to everyone in the hall that was there to listen. "I'm not the best dancer, so I hope your fancy princess education can do the work for the both of us." Ezra winked, pulling her in with a clumsy hold. Elise nodded, trying to stay calm. Was this kind of relationship really okay, living and dead? Maybe just for one night? "Then I will do my best." She nearly whispered, taking Ezra through the steps in tune with Winter's rythm, Ezra doing his best to follow along. Ame was pouting, looking in her direction, and she could Neptune giving her a friendly wave as he flirted with a Nereid - no doubt the Nereid was given human legs for the night instead of the normal mermaid tail. As the song continued on, it became more apparent that it was one of mourning, sharing the cadence of many funeral songs she had been privy to.

Who was Winter mourning? Was this for her? She could almost feel the despair seeking through, driving her feet to step more firmly, with more purpose. She was alive, she wanted to show Winter with the dance. She was back and ready to be friends and sisters again. "You don't have to look around at others." Ezra grinned, his voice somewhat husky. "Just keep your eyes right on me, brat princess." When had Ezra become so tall? His adam's apple was strong, and there was an unmistakable gleam in his eyes. He was brimming with life, something the black eagle knew she could not have again, not until she accepted reincarnation when she chose to end her tenure as Kore's Servant one day. "Don't think about anything too complicated." Ezra whispered, his grip tightening as the song came to a close. "Just dance your heart away without a worry in the world." He still loved her, and Elise was not sure if it made her happy or miserable.

Winter confirmed that the song was created in her honor and Ezra gave Winter a smile, walking Elise to the drink bar to freshen up. "Are you doing okay? You almost fainted earlier, but that slow dance must have taken lots of energy." He was almost as useless as dead weight, she had to do nearly all the work. "If I was going to faint, I would not have been able to dodge you as you tried to step on my feet for the sixth time." She drank the punch, finding the fruity taste to be strange to her mouth. Serenity was clapping and crying somewhere, but Zoku was tending to her needs, kinder than she ever let on. How did Zoku end up with someone like Merlin anyways?

It did not take long for Winter to come and meet them. "There you are! You did fantastic, Winter!" He gave her a quick friendly hug. Winter was one of the closest things he had to a best friend at the time, so it was natural and Elise knew it was harmless. It would be rude to apologize for the song, so Elise would thank her instead. "I really enjoyed it. You always were a prodigy at music, but it seems you surpassed even your old self today." It was a different kind of magic than Winter was normally able to create with music at her side. Even Winter's dress was exquisite, highlighting her unique charms.

It must have been an odd sight to see. A Servant, an Heir, and a very tall human talking together. Would Iris be displeased? Maybe Winter chose not to care about that today. "I noticed Elise is very thing, Winter." Ezra held up her wrist as if it were a piece of evidence. "Make sure she eats, alright? She's never been a good eater." Embarrassed, the black eagle shook her head. "No, I am just not very hungry." For some reason the idea of eating Boundary food made her sick to her stomach. Did something happen while she was being tortured as a bird? She had no memories of the time, but trying to think of it made her shiver and quake.

❝I put my arms around myself and I'm unbreakable.❞

|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

"I'm glad you liked it," Winter was happy that Elise had liked the song. After all, it was complicated to compose your own music. Winter had spent many sleeplness nights sitting in front of the piano, playing keys, writing down and crossing out notes. "I wrote the song for you before well... you came back." Elise was still technically dead of course, but she was more alive than she was before. They were lucky, Winter thought, as how many people got to have their friends back? How many people got to see their loved ones after they died? None, was the answer. Winter wasn't blind either, she could see the way Ezra looked at Elise. He was full of longing, wanting to be with her, still madly in love with her. It was a bit sad, considering the circumstances. After all, Ezra was still alive. He had an entire life ahead of him.

Winter shook her head, there were more important things to think about. Winter glanced at Elise, it was true, she was thin. Elise mentioned that she was not very hungry. Winter frowned upon hearing this, not finding it all that strange. "It's probably because she's tasted Hell's food." How had the others not figured this out? "Elise can probably really only tolerate the food from there." It reminded Winter of an old story, how once humans tasted the food of the Fair Folk, they would never be able to eat anything else. Food would turn to ash in the muth, once they had eaten the delicacies offered to them by faeries. Was Elise experiencing something similar? It would not surprise Winter if that was so.

"I'm sure you could ask Kore to bring you something if you feel faint?" It was concerning that Elise felt as though she was going to pass out. Then again, she was dead, did she need things like food and water to survive? Winter wasn't sure. "If you don't feel well, let us know, okay?" Winter was clearly still concerned about Elise. "Winter, someone is here that I want to speak to, I'll be back in a moment." Zed gave her a quick peck on the temple, "Alright, have fun." She waved him off, watching him walk away in the crowd. "Wait until the others hear you're engaged, they're going to be so jealous!" Serenity squealed, coming up behind them. She was holding a plate piled high with desserts.

Ah yes, Winter had nearly forgotten about Claude, Oliver, and Carter's rivalry. "How do you like Olympia so far?" Winter asked the three of them. She knew Elise had a slight impression of it, but her time here had been cut short before she could achieve her freedom. Ezra and Serenity might be here for who knows how long. Winter wasn't even sure how Zoku had managed to get them in here without facing the hostility they had previously. Perhaps because Zoku herself now had permission to enter Olympia? Winter wasn't sure.

That beautiful song was made for her, just as Elise suspected. It pained her heart to know she made Winter feel that pain. Ezra, Serenity, no doubt they were hurt too. How could they so easily forgive her for slipping up? This was not the first time. For so long Elise believed herself to be self sufficient but maybe she was not as clever as she always hoped she was. This time, there was no going back. "I hope your next masterpiece is a happier one, though." If it was, then Winter would no doubt live a life bathed in joy here in Olympia. When Ezra brought up her wrist, Winter had a thought. Was it because she had Hell's food? "Kore would have told me if that were the case... perhaps?" Maybe it slipped her mind? Kore was kind, but she was far from being used to having a Servant. "I can ask her next time."

In the meantime, she would at least drink juice. Even if eating was nigh impossible, she seemed able to handle the drinks just fine. If she needed it, she could ask Kore. The Heir of Mercy was definitely able to go back and forth between Hell and Olympia within a moment's notice. Elise would be able to do it too, once Kore gave her a mist ball in her eventual home in the Underworld. "Yeah, don't push yourself, Elise." Ezra looked at her steadily, fear in his eyes. He did not want her to disappear again like last time, without even a word of farewell. Zed went to go talk to others at the same time Serenity found them, dessert on her plate like offerings for all of them. "Hello." She said as Ezra helped himself to the dessert tray. "Hello! The food here is really great!" Serenity beamed, ever the ball of sunshine.

"It is odd not seeing you with Mercedes. You two were childhood best friends." Serenity's face twisted a little, almost in sadness. "Well, that's kind of funny." An almost pained laugh came from her lips. "After I went with Carter to work on the farm, we never talked again. She stopped answering my texts on the holo. I guess even though I was the one in love, she was more dependant on me than the other way around." Ezra nodded vehemently. "Me, Oliver, Carter, Serenity, and Claude are the ones that kept in touch with each other. Mercedes got too wrapped up in her military life to stay friends." As Ezra and Serenity swapped stories, a few odd details came to light.

With a more joyous laugh on her face, Serenity giggled. "Who ever would have thought Oliver and Carter would become best friends! Once, when trying to escape from crazy fangirls, Carter was saved by Oliver who smuggled him back to the Slithers hideout in the Underground City!" The lavender girl's eyes were tearing up with laughter. "I guess Carter really wasn't ready for the modeling life after all." Ezra nodded in agreement, grinning as he wiped crumbs off his mouth. "Seeing them now, you'd never think they used to bump heads trying to seduce you, Winter. Now they meet up every weekend to watch football games on the holo."

An odd emotion was filling Elise's chest as they spoke. Everyone really did move on, did they not? Was there even a place for her anymore? "Oh, El, you should hear this! Claude found a nice lady, Timothy introduced her to him from his music college! Ezra and I met her and she's really nice." Serenity seemed very pleased. Did Claude even mourn for her at all? "At first I was suspicious, but when Jasmine baked those cookies I knew she was good for someone as nice as Claude." Ezra finished cleaning his fingers after wolfing down all the desserts. "I see. That is good for him." A flawless smile grew on Elise's face, hiding the uncertainties and pains growing within. She was an actress, after all, this was what she did best. "I am glad he found happiness."

|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

Winter took Elise's hand as the others swapped stories, because she too, could feel the pain in her chest. She gave Elise's hand a little squeeze. After all, she understood. They had moved on without them and it made sense. It had been two years on earth, two long years. "Winter, are you okay?" Ezra suddenly asked. Winter blinked, swiping at her eyes. "Yeah, I'm fine." She smiled, he reached out, wiping her cheeks with his napkin. The old pain was fresh once more. She had never thought that she would have any friends and then, as soon as she did have them, she had to let them go. "I just wish I could see everyone again," as though sensing her distress, Zed appeared from behind them. "What happened?" He asked, kneeling down to wipe the tears from Winter's cheeks with his thumbs.

"Nothing," Winter shook her head, it was silly to make him worry. He glanced at Serenity, Ezra, and Elise. "Did you three do something?" He asked, clearly protective of his fiance. "No, it wasn't them," Winter replied, not wanting Zed to kick them out of the benefit. "They were just talking about earth and I realized that I missed them," Zed nodded in understanding, calming down. "Well, why don't they all come to the wedding then?" He suggested, "we can send invitations to earth for them," Winter blinked, "but how would they get back?" She inquired, confused. "We'll figure something out," after all, they still needed to send Ezra and Serenity back. They had lives on earth, they still had a place. Unlike Winter and Elise, who no longer belonged there.

"Zed, a moment-" an Heir tapped his shoulder. He sighed, "I'll be right back." He promised, "try and eat someting, alright?" Winter nodded, watching him leave again, ever the busy bee. She had yet to release Elise's hand. "Maybe we should all get somethign to eat, instead of just relying on Serenity's plate?" Winter suggested. They needed real food, aside from dessert. "Elise, do you remember how to build a portal generator?" Winter inquired as they walked to the food table. Was there a chance that Winter could return to earth to locate her body? She knew Zed would probably not allow her to go, that it was too dangerous, but Winter did not want to rely on everyone else's power.

After all, she was an Heir in her own right. It would be wrong for her to rely on everyone else, right? "Ah, this looks delicious," she gazed at the food table, conscious of Iris's watchful gaze. There was no way Winter could try everything, but she took small portions of a few pieces of food onto her plate. "Hey, Winter, if there's something you want to talk about, just let us know, okay?" Serenity asked. They had never seen Winter cry before, after all, she was normally emotionally stunted. They rarely saw her smile, so to see Winter cry came as quite a shock. She was no actress like Elise, merely a traumatized child who had been forced to grow up too quickly.

Winter took Elise's hand while Ezra and Serenity talked about how things were going back on Earth. Oliver and Carter were friends now, Mercedes had distanced herself away from everyone, Claude found a woman and may end up making a family together with her. So much had changed, it was almost as if Elise and Winter had lost their place among them. It was akin to no longer belongong with them anymore. In a way, it was true. They truly did not, Winter was an Heir now and Elise was dead. While they could still go to Earth, Elise would not be able to for longer periods of time and Winter had her own life to live here in the Boundary. "It is okay." Elise said quietly as Winter cried, knowing how she was feeling. "It is okay to cry."

Zed wanted to make sure that his wife as not being bullied but he left just as quickly like a social butterfly storm. Ezra looked puzzled for a moment, as if distracted by Winter's crying but Serenit suddenly beamed yet again. "We're invited to the wedding? Is everyone back home invited too?" She frowned then, turning towards Mercedes. "Would Mercy even come? It's been years since she was in contact with any of us." Ezra shrugged as if it did not matter to him. "It's her choice, but we'll have fun either way. Congrats, Winter, I always knew you'd find a guy worthy of your smile." He cracked a grin, staring back towards Elise, strong emotion in his eyes. The black eagle almost withered away, but returned the stare with one of her own. They walked towards the food table, agreeing with Winter's proposition. Elise would not eat, but the others seemed to be hungry.

"I do." Elise said simply. "And I have better tools so this time it will not be as dangerous." There was a tiny margin of error last time, but now her calculations could be more precise, more exact. Suddenly it dawned on Ezra then, what that meant, there was a change in his eye as he heard the words. "With the Portal Generator you can go back and forth, right?" Elise nodded, that was probably true. Where would she end up though if she had no body? Waking up in a corpse would be worrying. Maybe she would be like the other Heirs, appearing wherever she pleased, independent of her physical form.

Someone came to approach them again. Even now, he was wearing beach shorts and a Hawaiian style shirt. Neptune grinned, waving his arm, a pale little raindrop girl behind him. "How are you, my favorite niece? And all your friends too!" Ame poked her head out, giggling happily. "All the food here is lame. I wanted smores, Uncle Nep, where are the smores?" Neptune shook his head, almost pityingly. "I'm not sure what a smore is, I don't think that's a food." Ezra glanced towards Winter, chuckling to himself. "Then maybe we can have Winter show us what smores are!" Elise flinched, catching Iris's glance. "Would it really be wise to?" Ame pouted, craving that rustic taste.

❝I put my arms around myself and I'm unbreakable.❞

|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

Was it alright to cry? Winter was no longer sure. After all, she had left of her own free will. Her curiosity had been her demise, just as her Grandparents had told her it would be. It was her own fault that she was stuck here and it was her fault that Elise had dead. If she had just told Elise no, that she had to do this alone, then Elise would still be alive. Perhaps she and Ezra would be married, or maybe she would have broken it off with him and found someone else, Winter didn't know. There was no use crying about it, she had messed up and people had suffered for it. Zed made sure she was alright before he was pulled away again, no doubt to discuss official Olympian business. Once he was declared ruler, she would barely get to spend time with him. Unless, like Iris, she would be by his side all the time and make decisions with him.

Of course, that would require Winter to learn politics, a subject that had never particularly interested her. Perhaps because of the Doc's grooming to make certain she would never learn the laws of the Chrysanthemum, aside from what her lawyer had told her. When Winter had told Zed about her past, about everything, he had been apalled. He had told Zeus, against her wishes. She didn't want her Father to feel bad for her or pity her, but he didn't seem to think any less of her for it. In fact, the opposite had happened. He had praised her for being so strong, for making it all the way here, even after nearly dying several times. "If you've never felt fear, then you've been brave. A true Olympian," he had said. She belonged her, he had exclaimed emphatically. According to Zeus, Winter deserved a spot in Olympia.

They went to the food table, Elise explaining that it would be much easier for her to build a portal generator. "Then you should," Winter squeezed Elise's hand gently. "That way Ezra and Serenity can go home," otherwise they would be stranded here. "We don't want to leave yet," Serenity said quicky, "So you can take your time. After all, it's nice here." She smiled, enjoying reuniting with her friends. "I hope the others want to come," Winter murmured. Would Carter and Oliver protest? No, it had been two years, no doubt they had moved on by now. Ezra had said they were good friends now, which was somewhat odd to hear. They had always been at each other's throats, but that could have been due to the amount of stress all of them had been under.

Neptune approached them, Ame behind him. It had been a very long time since Winter had seen Ame. "I'm doing well, how are you enjoying the benefit?" Winter smiled when he came. "I don't think we can really make s'mores here, but maybe later." After all, starting a fire in the middle of the benefit would not do well considering the reason the benefit was happening due to a fire that burned down a large portion of an elfish town. "Oh, Iris is coming this way," Winter blanched, stuffing a small cake into her mouth so that she wouldn't have to face her Step-Mother's imminent disapproval of her existence. Neptune laughed, it was clear something had displeased Iris.

❝A second return, but what for? And for whom was I brought back?❞

Elise continued to drink from the punch at the table, pouring more into her glass as the others talked, thoguh she offered Ame a wave when she approached. Ame stuck her tongue out at her and began prattling about smores. The commoner treat that Winter had shown them - despite all the seemingly delicious and high class Heir food available, Ame wanted to go back to the simpler time, when it was just Winter, Elise, Ezra, and their Heirs camping out by the river a couple hours from that village by the portal. The black eagle played with her horn with her free hand, wondering if she would have to ask Kore for permission to borrow Svarog's tools to create a portal generator for the others to go back and forth.

"You should be a little careful with what you say, silly girl." Neptune put his hand on Ame's head, still looking jolly with is odd yellow goatee on his chin. Between the three brothers, Neptune really seemed to be the softest and easiest of the three. What was it like in Aqueas Palace? No doubt the environment was much more relaxed than the Underworld or Olympia, that much was for certain. "Some of the elves might think you're a little insensitive." Ame made a face, scowling. "But smores are yummy. Next time, Winter!" When was the next time she would be allowed in? Unlike Zoku and Yuuki, both putting in effort to be accepted as a Major Heir, Ame was not doing anything of the sort. She was only here as a special exception because of Neptune's contributions to the Boundary. "We're having a good time, Winter, thanks, but my unruly Ame here might need to be sent home a little early if she keeps acting up." Still his expression was gentle and light hearted. Was this were Ame got her odd personality from?

"If Kore allows it, I will visit you some day, Ame." Elise had an odd bond with her friend. Ame was something like a silly little sister that still needed time to grow and blossom into someone more mature and responsible. Though the black eagle figured she would miss how silly she was in her younger days. Ame nodded, smiling. "Too bad you died, but now we can see each other all the time!" She grinned, looking oddly pretty in her raindrop dress. Iris was coming over and Elise wondered just how this encounter would go. Her eyes unfocused for a moment and she grimaced, finding it difficult to stay standing. "El, are you okay? Is there something wrong?" Ezra held her by the arm, his grip strong. "I believe so? I..."

Suddenly she was enveloped in a white shawl, pulled into Kore's arms. The Heir of Mercy smiled at them all, holding tight to Elise. "Silly Servant, what have you been doing? Your soul energy's nearly depleted?" Soul energy? Was that not supposed to last at least another two weeks before she had to go and recharge in the Underworld? "I may have... trained a little with my-" Kore sighed, lifting her up with ease. "Sorry, this is an emergency! Have a great benefit, everyone!" Before Elise knew it she was whisked away into the mist and when she awoke she found herself in a white room filled with red flowers decorating the walls and pillars.

"Welcome to the Tower of Sentinels." Kore said, laying Elise down in bed. There was a window to the outside, a savannah of grassy fields and white flowers filling in the distance. "This Tower overlooks the northern border of the Underworld, before the gate that leads to the Pit of Punishment, which is where you were before." There was a dog that guarded the gates, with three heads and an aggressive demeanor. "Is this where you..." This was where Kore lived when she was not with Hades in the Onyx Palace. Kore placed a ball of mist on the night stand, sighing. "You really can't overuse your powers. You're only barely alive - a little bit overboard and you'll disappear!" There were odd tears in Kore's eyes as she spoke, empathy in her clear eyes.

"Rest, and please don't work yourself so hard anymore."

Elise was suddenly whisked away by Kore, having appeared to be faint. "I'm glad Kore is taking care of her," Serenity said as she munched on a cookie. Winter nodded, "She seems to be in good hands," Winter noted. Ezra's face had fallen, he had matured in the time that they were gone for. Winter was glad for it, but also sad. She had not gotten to watch him mature. "If you can, will you come back to earth?" Ezra asked, his eyes sad. Winter thought about it, "I'll come and get my body," she replied. "And probably to visit once in a while," Ezra nodded, seeming satisfied with that. "I hope you'll come visit us on your farm," Serenity nudged her. Winter nodded, "I'd like to."

Iris had reached them, looking cross about something. "The Benefit is almost over and you've spent the entire time chatting with your human friends rather than socializing with the elites." It took every ounce of will Winter had not to roll her eyes at this. "I'm sorry Iris, I'll go talk to them now." She sighed, giving a wave to Serenity and Ezra as she was forced to walk the other way. A few minutes into making polite conversation, Zed cut in. "Can I have this dance?" He asked, it was the last dance of the vening. "Of course," Winter smiled, taking his hand, glad for the rescue. They walked to the middle of the dance floor, holding hands since Winter was very short and Zed was very tall.

"I love you my red rose," he whispered in her ear. Her cheeks turned pink, he spun her, Winter landing in his arms. The benefit ended with a flourish, a fireworks show over the hall. After that, Winter got into the carriage, Zed by her side. She lay her head against his shoulder, their hands intertwined. "Are you really going to return to earth?" He asked and she blinked in surprise. "What do you mean?" She looked up at him, his expression unreadable. "Zed?" Winter questioned. "You said to your friends that you would return to get your body, but your body is missing. How are you supposed to find it?" Winter figured she would just wake up in her body, like she always did. "It won't be long, just a few days." Winter promised, leaning her head against his shoulder again.

"I'm going to go with you," Zed said suddenly. "Trust me, you don't want to." Winter laughed. His hand tightened around her's. "Yes, I do." He insisted, "what if something goes wrong?" He was clearly worried about her, "It won't, I'm just going to get my body, then come back." He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, "Winter, I love you very much and if a human ever lays a hand on you, I will smite their bloodline." He cuped her face in his hands, kissing her gently. "I love you too," she giggled. The carriage stopped, they had arrived home once more. He whisked Winter off of her feet, carrying her to the garden. It was sunset, the garden illuminated by the colors in the sky.

❝A second return, but what for? And for whom was I brought back?❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#0C94CC ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #CC0C2E

When Elise woke up she felt sick and groggy. What was going on? She was still at the Sentinel Tower, was she not? This was a place to guard and look over the Underworld, where Kore spent half of her time when she was not in the Onyx Palace with her husband, Hades. Kore was still staring at her, as if she had never stopped looking her way ever since she fell asleep in the bed of clouds the evening before after going here after the Benefit. "Good morning. How are you, my Servant?" Kore's eyes were almost glowing with empathy as she looked at her. Was this the power of mercy? "I do not... feel very well." She tried to stand up but her legs seized up, they would not listen to her. Kore shook her head, pushing the black eagle back onto the bed.

"Your body is remembering your physical condition before you died." Kore explained softly. "When you run out of soul energy, you begin reverting back to a corpse until you disappear and can no longer take form like this." So the more she used her powers, the faster she would degenerate? "But if I remain here..." Here she would be safe, since this was the land of the dead. "You can recover and heal while you're here, and then live back in Olympia until your energy begins to deplete again." If she was not careful this strange half death existence would come to an end. "Is it not natural that I can exist like this, is it?" She had a bad feeling that there was something greatly wrong with her being like this. Kore nodded, pain in her eyes. "Humans, when dead, are either sent to suffer and be punished in the Underworld, or are sent to reincarnate and be given a new life based on how they lived their past ones." Kore knew a lot about the system, being a co-ruler of the Underworld and of death.

She took Elise's hand into her own. "But you're here, not being punished, or being reincarnated. What is keeping you like this is the power I gave you when I made you into a Moirai." But it was only temporary. Sure, Elise could keep extending the time limit every time she returned, but if she was ever careless, she would not even have a chance to say goodbye. Elise smiled, knowing the stakes now. "Thank you, Kore. I will make sure to be very careful." According to Kore, it would be even more dangerous for her on Earth, since it was even farther away from the Underworld. Officially, Elise's status was that she was due for reincarnation, was her progress was "pending". It was stalled for now, at the very least.

"As long as you're here, you will lose your legs. Doing this will help you fill your body with my energy faster so you can return to your dear friends in Olympia." Kore placed a pile of papers on the desk then. "Once you eat, you can get to work. These papers are the life stories of each of the souls who applied for Salvation. You can touch them and see their memories, and decide if they deserve a chance to redeem themselves doing community service as half-living creatures (just like how Elise was now) until their sins were repaid and they can reincarnate." This was the job she signed up for when Kore took her in as her Servant. "I will judge them fairly, Kore." Her ruby eyes gleamed with purpose, knowing that she was trusted with the task.

It was busy work, and quite dizzying. Having to enter the memories of the fallen and see what they saw, feel what they felt. She was able to experience many lives, like a drunk teenager who crashed a hovercar, or a corrupt business executive who embezzled money. Everyone had their story, and Elise gave them salvation or further punishment according to the crime they commited. Sometimes Hades came by during the week to give her some advice and assistance, since she was one of the staff now. Elise even had a chance to play with Cerberus, the dog who was friendly to anyone that smelled like Kore.

Once the week was over, she felt strong and energetic. There were postcards from Olympia in her room, with plenty of messages from Ezra, Serenity, Ame, maybe even Winter, asking how she was doing. "You did wonderful, my Servant!" Kore hugged her in a way that was perhaps inappropriate for an Heir and Servant, but when did Kore care about the normal? "You surprised me." Hades seemed a lot more tame now, almost mild. He seemed less stressed than before. "When Kore told me about this, I thought she was crazy. But if humans can be allowed to prove their will to make up for their sins, then they can be saved." Hades did not want humans to commit sins. If at all possible, the more that could be reincarnated, the better. "My dream is for an Underworld empty of any sinners." It was why he was so hard on humanity - he wanted to scare them into being good.

Too bad many just did not want to listen.

"Anyone can appeal for Salvation. As long as they truly mean it, I will give them a chance." Elise explained, having forgiven Hades a while ago for what he did to her. He no doubt thought of her as just as bad as the rest. Evidently, he could smell the sin of murder on her. She did take lives with her own hands after all, whether justified or not. "Now you should go to Olympia. I know your friends are waiting." Kore gestured towards the mist ball and Elise nodded, wheeling herself over. Hades cashed in on a favor and had Svarog build on for Elise to use whenever she stayed in the Underworld. "Then I will be seeing you both."

Once Elis ereturned to her room in Zed's palace, she sighed heavily, feeling a little bit lonely. Hades, Kore, and Cerberus had almost become something like a family to her. Two parents, and a pet dog. She rang the bell to signal to Zed that she had arrived and returned from the Underworld. Now, she had three weeks to finish a new Portal Generator and begin the quest to finding Winter's body. "But no eating." She did not need to eat, it would only make her sick. Kore said she informed Zed of Elise's dietary needs - she could only drink for sustenance. She did not quite get thirsty, but drinking properly would help delay her body's reversion to it's death state. "I wonder if Winter missed me." Were Ezra and Serenity still in Olympia, or were they looking for the other Heirs now? She smiled, wiggling her toes. "Looks like they work again."

❝I put my arms around myself and I'm unbreakable.❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#BDA0CB ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #F7B3DA
|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

Serenity and Ezra spent two more days with Winter before leaving Olympia alongside Zoku to find the rest of the Heirs. Winter was sad to see them go, but she knew they would be back. After all, they had to return if they wanted to be able to use the Portal Generator that Elise was going to make them. How long would Elise be in Hell for? Winter wasn't sure. "Knock, knock," Iris entered her room, where Winter was sitting by the window, playing violin. "Oh, Iris, what are you doing here?" Zed was at work, with Zeus. Normally, Iris was always by Zeus's side. "I'm here to start helping make preparations for the waiting. All of Olympus is already abuzz," of course they were, no doubt Iris had told everyone the day after it happened. Winter shook her head, it didn't matter, she thought, they would have known during the benefit anyhow, considering the large ring on Winter's small finger.

They sat in the parlor, picking out invitations and choosing the wording. The next day, Iris came back with a book of designs for table clothes, flowers, and dresses. Winter spent all day with her, the two sitting across rom one another, drinking tea, until their respective husband and fiance returned from work. "How was everything?" Zed asked as they strolled through the garden. They held hands, the two of them as they talked. "It was nice, Iris is being amicable, which is more than I could ask for." Winter smiled as Zed squeezed her hand. "I'm glad you two are finally getting along." He kissed her temple, they ate dinner in the garden, beside the lake. "What was that Ezra said, about bathing with each other?" He asked, recalling the comment. Winter's cheeks turned pink. "We did not bathe together! He would spy on me while I was bathing in the stream!"

She grinned, looking at him from the corner of her eyes. "Why? Are you jealous?" Now Zed's face turned red. "Ah, I see." Winter rose, wiggling out of her dress. "What are you doing?! Winter!" She tossed her dress aside, wearing only her undergarments. "You want to see, don't you?" She stepped into the pond, Zed rising. "Winter, wait, no! If Zeus finds out-" he would smite Zed. She giggled, jumping into the water. "What's he going to do? We'll be married soon!" She splashed around. "Come join me," Winter grabbed his hand when he tried to fish her out, pulling him into the water, suit and all. "Winter!" He spat out water, rising to the surface, grabbing her. He spun her around, laughing. She giggled, the two of them floating in the pond until the staff rushed out to see what happened.

The next day, Iris came again for a dress fitting. "A little birdie told me you went prancing about naked in the garden," she said as she sat down, clutching her fashion booklets. "That isn't what happened," Winter shook her head, quickly trying to quell her step-Mother. "I was wearing undergarments and Zed was wearing a suit." Iris did not seem impressed. "Please refrain from prancing around in the your underwear in front of others, you farm folk are so odd, honestly." Farm folk? Winter shook her head, but said nothing on the subject. "Lady Winter," one of the staff appeared, clearing her throat. "The bell in Elise's room just rung." Oh? So Elise had returned. "Well, send her in then," Iris said before Winter could, surprising her.

"I thought you didn't like Elise?" She asked as she undressed, the tailor arriving to take her measurements. "I am not fond of those... creatures, but she is your friend and you will have her here whether or not I want you to."
