[:What Are Magical Items:]
We all know how to use them, however what are they made of? How are they made? Do they have limits? How many are there in this world?
First of all, Magical Items are rare, and by rare its meant that the production and cost of making a Magical Item is so high that it is probably only owned by noblemen (yet even then such relics are seen as uncommon!). Magical Items contains magic in its raw essence, which is then forged into doing a specific task upon a specific command, therefore it is hard to steal other men's magical items, yet alone duplicate the mechanics of such a highly advanced magical enchantment.
It is uncertain of how many magical items there are left in this world. Some ancient books and scripts describe a time when the magic was so strong and raw that it was considered a trade to create magical items, a time when it was common for noblemen to wear nothing but the finest forged Magical Robes and enchanted armor. Alas, the books does not describe what happened, some say it was the will of the Gods that mortals were not to consider themselves higher than they were, other says it was a magical cataclysm that shattered the availability of magic, and a very few whispers that it was mankind's ability to turn everything into a weapon against each other. Whatever the cause, it has left the world without the greatest knowledge of how to perfectly forge such divinely-made items, and treasure hunters are always on the look out for such old books and (if they're truly favored by the Gods) they may find Magical Items of the Old Times (if time hasn't already started eating it away!).
Every magical item has limits. Even the God-enchanted Weapons of Legacy has their limits as for how long the avatars can make use of their weapons/items. Magical Items can be 'overheated' as they are hard-pressed or used over a long period of time, and such situations can lead to the destruction of even a God-enchanted Magical Item! So be wise of when you use your Magical Item.
As said above, every Magical Item has its limits of usage. Some are more expertly crafted than others, however the finer the Magical Item is, the more expensive it becomes, and the more sought after it is also it.
The advancement of a Magical Item can range from a staff that glows in the dark, to a sword that warns you of evil nearby even to the powerful lamps with trapped Djinnis inside!
To give a sense of how well crafted something is, we'll use a scale of 1-10 (1 being an easy made Magical Item while 10 is a very rare and expensively forged magical item). This will not determine how useful they will be, you need to use your own sense as for how hard it would have been in making a magical carpet, or a spell-boosting staff for a wizard.
It may be easier for some factions, as they have devoted themselves to magic longer than (say) the Maskmen, but the Maskmen may have looted/stolen more lesser magical items in their time. So be creative as for how your group has achieved their Magical Items, but do not think you'll get away with a powerful level 10 dragon-killing crossbow...Even for an avatar, there will be limits for abilities.
There are, however, also weaknesses with Magical Items. The flying carpet may behave like a wild untamed animal when left unchecked. The trapped Djinni may be either insane after centuries of being trapped or trying to bend every command for his own benefit. And the staff that glows with light in darkness may have to absorb the energy from the sun before it can be used.
The weaknesses don’t have to be big, but they need to be fair. It will count for both Magical Items and Weapons of Legacy
(In short, be mature with this. If in doubt, I'm 1 Private Message away. So never hesitate with asking questions, especially with something like this)
Your Avatar is the most gifted and favored of all mortal followers. Is it not right that such a divine being should be given more than endless age and magic? Of course he/she/it deserves more than that!
A Weapon of Legacy is a Magical Item forged by the God(dess) himself/herself and it is a symbol of the Avatar’s supremacy over everyone else.
It is an object that has been with the Avatar since his rise to power.
It is a weapon that is beyond the ability of even the most skilled criminal to steal. For these ancient relics are meant for the avatar, and the avatar alone, of each God to wield. Those not of the God(dess) will most likely find their hands burned as a warning that such a weapon is not meant for the unfaithful (though some Gods take such defences even further…). Even the most faithful servant will never be able to unlock the full potentials of the weapon.
Scale wise, a Weapon of Legency is 12 (it's made by a God...C'mon, it's bound to be powerful!)
Mask and Strach were the two first Gods who thought about their Avatars loosing their Weapon of Legacy, so they had their Avatar being Soulbound to their weapon. If lost in the heat of battle, or stolen by fellow believers, they would feel a pull in its direction, making it easier for them to find their legendary weapon again.
Every other God soon copied their design, and it became standard amongst the avatars to have such feature.
So, to make it simple as for how to make your own Magical Item we'll have a simple sheet to fill in:
- Code: Select all
Name of Item:
Type: (Is it melee? Armor? Flying carpet?)
Advancement: 1-10
Power: What can it do?
Weakness: What's the 'catch' with this magical item?
History: Optional, but if you want to add in how it was found/made, awesome!
As said in the Announcement, the list below will be given a free magical item for their usage. The powers of each will be revealed by Lady Ethereal through a PM.
