This is a good place to learn about each character within the story, some are nothing more than cow fodder for the killer but some are pretty important and one of them is the killer. In order to unlock information on any character you must obtain information about them whether directly or indirectly, but until then this will only contain their profession. The only characters that you cannot gather information on is soldiers so do not even attempt to.
