The Celestial Hierarchy isn’t exactly a ‘hierarchy’ per say. The term is used in two ways.
First, to refer to the basic ‘world’ of Zodiacs. Though the world integrates Zodiacs with ‘normal’ people, there are specific places, buildings, careers, etc, that are strictly occupied by those with the Zodiac gene. These places are commonly defined as ‘Part of the Hierarchy,’ ‘on the Celestial Plane,’ or ‘simply Celestial.’
Second, the hierarchy is used as a scale of ‘levels’ to help define a Zodiacs power ability. The levels don’t designate authority or superiority, and it’s a very nonjudgmental system. It’s unheard of to learn of ones rank and then change your opinion. It’s just a common title, like blood type or eyesight score.
The only time the titles express superiority are in ‘official’ job applications or requirements, like government, etc.
The Hierarchy at it’s simplest is a ranking system, similar to the Zodiac Levels used in Zodiac schools. Once graduated out of Primary Schooling, (ie: sophomore-college freshman), numbers are no longer used, and instead a Zodiac increases by rank, as the user grows more powerful. Each rank could technically be measured by the ‘Zodiac Level’ system, which will be added for comparison below. As follows is the current Hierarchy, as well as the retired ranks:
A graduate is what it sounds: someone who graduated primary schooling. They’re most often living on the Earth plane rather than the Celestial, so aren’t technically part of the hierarchy. However, since they received basic training and can control their abilities, they make the list for titles sake. These peoples don’t require further schooling in Zodiac schools to successfully live.
In the Zodiac Level system, Graduates would commonly be anywhere from 7-11.
Principalities:
These are the Zodiacs choosing to ‘officially’ stay in the Celestial Hierarchy. This is the most populous ranking. Most are those who continue schooling in Zodiac colleges or universities to further their abilities, and then graduate into normal life. In the Zodiac Level system, Principalities would be anywhere between 10-20.
Virtues:
Virtues are the 1/3 of Principalities that decide to continue with bettering their abilities. Either their desired career choice requires higher skill set, or they hold a dangerous or unmanageable ability that requires more training before safe. Some Principalities are forced to continue some type of training due to a dangerous or unpredictable Zodiac.
In the Zodiac Level system, Virtues range from 20-30.
Thrones:
This is the highest level available to attain, and also the least populated rank. Thrones have spent the majority of their lives training to the best of their ability, and they’re always improving and learning. They know how to control and use their Zodiac and are essentially masters. Many who reach this point become educators, ambassadors, government officials, etc.
In the Zodiac Level system, Thrones range anywhere from 30-50. (50 is extremely rare.)
Seraphim
For all purposes, the seraphim rank doesn’t exist. There’s only ever been one man to greatly surpass everyone else, one Zodiac, back when the gene was still a new and scary thing- one who paved the world so both ‘humans’ and Zodiacs could occupy it. By this time, he is known only as the Seraph. He founded many schools, the first being the Seraphic Academy.
This rank would no longer register in the Zodiac Level system, as it only goes up to 50. A Seraph would be so high over the ranking they would hit 90-100.
So this is also a Work In Progress, but feel free to ask any questions about the world or the rankings.
