Meet the D'Aubingne Family:
The D'Aubingne's are modern day witches, an entire clan of them, or as close to the myth as reality gets. There are no rabbits or crystal balls involved, no warts, no flying broomsticks or black cats. Just a group of people, thousands all over the world, with seemingly nothing in common except for the same intensly good looks, the same strange pattern hidden in jewelry and tattoos, and the same secret. They have a knack for affecting reality, bending it to their will by using nothing more than a few words in a forgotten language, a symbol drawn here or there, and just a bit of power from the Source.
Meet the Link:
Her name is Adrienne D'Aubingne, though everyone tends to affectionately call her Lien, or Link. She is the Source of all power that filters down from whatever place their power originates and out through the D'Aubingne Family all over the world. You would think that would make her pretty important, like maybe she'd be the boss around here or something. Not so much. Adrienne lives with the head of the Family in a small coven, a bunch of undercover bodyguards as far as she can tell. It may be a bit appropriate, though. She's kind of important to them, to the entire coven. Should she die without having a child, to pass the link on to... well, that would kind of suck.
Meet her rival:
The number of D'Aubingne's had been increasing out of control for a long time. The strain on previous links was even enough to drive them to insanity in some cases. But then, a few centuries ago, another link was born and with him, another clan. The new clan calls themselves the Suomi. They've been growing stronger since their inception, vying for control of the magical world, but then, someone realized that a civil war with freaking witches is kind of hard to keep a secret. Solution? Unite the families. Have the two links marry each other. And all at once, throw out four hundred years worth of hatred and animosity. Yeah. Right.
Meet her best friend:
Every group has a leader, every Family a head. The next head of the D'Aubingne Family is being groomed in the same Coven as the Lien is being guarded. The two of them are pretty close, "best friends forever" and all that loveliness. The only problem is, she's had her eye on the Suomi Lien for a long time. And by "had her eye on" I actually mean "been head over heels in love with". It's starting to become a problem... what's more important? Her best friend or the fact that she's marrying the man she loves?
Meet her lover:
Well, that's not exactly true, yet. They're just good friends. Really good friends. Who hang out without shirts on. Humans do that, right? Oh, and he's human. Wonderfully, delicously, ordinarily, forbiddenly human. He's got no clue what really goes on between Addrienne and her "foster family". And that's the way it's supposed to stay. That's the way it's going to stay. Just like that. Really. There is no way that is going to change.
Meet everyone else:
Of course, we all have to live in the real world. No amount of magic will put food on the table. The Coven lives in the city of New Haven, South Carolina, a medium-sized city where the girls study at a local community college and blending with the rest of the humans is key. The city has the uncomfortable history of witch trials and burnings. Don't forget to keep the secret...

Human boyfriend (male, age 18-21): available
You can also play members/body guards from either clan or humans from the city. Those ages don't matter, but keep in mind that there's no immortality or invincible aging that goes on with these witches. If you character is two hundred years old they'd better be an exceedingly charming pile of dust.

The magic:
So, as you can see, I gave a pretty vague description of magic above. That's because I wanted it broad enough to cover literally everything. There are spells and magic for literally everything, but a few things are exceptionally difficult. So difficult in fact that no one in the rp can do it. Those are:
-instantly kill
-instantly heal/bring back the dead
-stop/reverse time
-produce food/money/pretty jewelry to be sold on the black market
-mind control
-anything extreme of that sort that may occur to me later.
That isn't to say that you don't have room to play. Each witch has his or her own specialization, an area of magic that comes to them easily. This speacialization is powerful, but raw without training. With training, however, it becomes a subtle and powerful tool. Examples of specializations include:
-element manipulation(limit one element per character)
-augmented strength
-levitation of self or other objects
-duplication
All that jazz. And, I'm sure we'll make some more discoveries about magic in-game.
