At the peaking of dawn through her small fogged window, Daisy turned over in her bed, pulling the covers over her head to shield her eyes from the bright array of sunlight. Squinting her eyes a bit, she huffed out a loud sigh and groaned as she yanked the covers away from her face, then turned to stare at the alarm clock beside her bed that rang annoyingly in her ears. It was approximately 7:15 in the morning, meaning it was time for Daisy to hop out of bed to get ready, so she could head off to work at her miserable job of pharmaceutical work.
She slid the heavy cotton blanket over her body, and kicked at it as it came towards her feet. Practically knocking the blanket off onto the floor at the foot of her bed, she hoisted her torso into a sitting position, and extended her arms about to stretch them. After rubbing the grains of sand out of her eyes, she stood up from her uncomfortable mattress she called a bed, and slapped the "snooze" button on the booming alarm clock that had woken her up so suddenly.
She pranced around her room in her undies and sports bra, frantically visiting each station and sifting through her dressers for a decent shirt, a nice pair of slacks, and some old-fashioned low heels. She struggled with her faded yellow blouse, turning it inside out, then outside in, and pulling it down over her plump torso. She then reached for her dark/light grey pin-striped slacks and danced around in a small circle, having a bit of trouble slipping them on. When she finally dressed herself, the only thing that was left to do was to slip on her shoes. She dug through the stack of footwear on the floor of her closet and pulled out a pair of black, two inch heel shoes.
Now fully dressed, Daisy shimmied her way into the bathroom to help her appearance maintain a casual, yet somewhat sophisticated look. She quickly ran a brush roughly through her hair, pulling harshly at the tangles that developed all throughout her hair over night. She then reached over the counter and picked up her toothbrush and her Crest Whitening toothpaste in the same hand. She turned the cold water knob towards the right, and rinsed her dry toothbrush on the now running faucet infront of her. She unscrewed the cap of the toothpaste, and squirted a couple dabs of it onto her toothbrush and shoved her toothbrush into her mouth. After massaging her teeth violently with her toothbrush, she took a sip of water, swished it in her mouth, spit, and turned off the water faucet. She threw down the open toothpaste container and the wet toothbrush, and rushed out of the bathroom to grab her purse, her keys, and her lucky silver chain.
As soon as she gathered her essentials for work, she rushed herself out of the house, and locked the door behind her. She searched through her purse to retrieve her cell phone, and stared at the time, noticing she was late. 7:38. Shit! The bus would be coming any second now down her street, and she couldn't afford to miss another day of work, or be late for that matter.
Hearing the loud roars of the bus's engine from the street over, her eyes widened and her feet took off down the street, traveling at the fastest speed she could with heels on. The bus would approach closer, and stop at the bus stop about twenty feet away from where Daisy's position was. She screamed and raised her hand at the bus, trying to catch the bus driver's attention. "Waaaaaiiittt!!!" Her shrill voice screamed through the massive silence of the dead morning air. She continued running as fast as she could and could feel her pounding heart slow as the bus driver nodded his head and waited for her to board the bus.
With a heavy sigh, Daisy climbed exhaustedly onto the bus, and stared at the riders as the bus doors closed and the large vehicle resumed on its excursion. Daisy scanned the rows of seats, picking out a specific empty seat near the back on the left. She traveled down the row slowly, grabbing onto each passing pole for support, considering the bus felt rather jerky and her adrenaline had been racing rather vastly. When she sat down, she drew in a deep breath and exhaled heavily, then stared out the side window of the bus, awaiting to get off at her desired destination.
The bus rides have always been hot, considering it didn't seem to have much ventilation, and there were always a lot of riders who gave off heat from their bodies. But today, the bus seemed unusually steamy. This was very odd, indeed, and made Daisy wonder just what caused the vehicle to grow with such a scorching temperature.
Startled, Daisy peaked out around the seat infront of her to notice a woman screetching and pointing towards the sky. She arched a brow in utter confusion, and turned back to look out the window to see what the woman had been pointing at. Holy hell, what is that?! Daisy thought. Her mind was now scattered with even more confusion. She stood up, grabbed a hold of a nearby pole for balance, and stared blindly out of the window at a large flaming rock hurdling towards the city.
Her eyes slowly widened to that of quarter-shaped balls, and nearly popped out of her head from fear. The loss of breath made Daisy's diaphram grow somewhat weak, and she gasped for breath as she felt her heart pound against her chest. She could nearly feel her life flash before her eyes, and the two images that came to her mind were here parents' faces. She opened her mouth to scream, but failed to make a sound. The only thing that could be heard from her was the soft shock of breathing coming from her fearful state of mind.
As the meteor crashed into the side of the Alpha Building, Daisy watched in awe as it instantly began to topple over the frantic citizens running for their lives. Daisy thought she should have been quicker on her feet an anticipated her own sudden death.
Finally, a scream emanated from her stout, plump body, and screetched among the other riders who seemed to be screaming just fine. As soon as she was informed that more meteors were heading their way, she quickly attempted to make her way to the front of the bus, hoping she'd be able to escape and run for safety.
Suddenly, she was jolted back, and thrown into a nearby seat with an old couple who she'd seen on the bus quite frequently. The bus driver roared the bus into gear and off they went, flying down the free way like a high-speed cop/criminal chase. Daisy couldn't believe the reality that was happening around her. I'm going to die, oh my god, I'm going to die. I love you mother, and father, and I'm so sorry I ever doubted working for you and--- Daisy's thoughts cut off, as she felt the bus come to an immediate drop off of the free way.
Now the entire bus was heading off the deep end, and would soon end everyone's lives as they knew it. As soon as the bus had fallen off the edge, Daisy flew forward, hitting the back of the seat infront of her. She struggled to hold onto something, but found it nearly impossible, with the old couple she had fallen onto, trying to reach for the same supporting matter. The plump woman continued to scream in fright as a puddle of tears streamed down her face.
Her life was agonized at this very moment. The second the bus hit the ground beneath the freeway, Daisy was instantly thrown into oblivion. Her body was plastered to the side of the bus, as it had flipped on its side. Daisy's state of mind was blatantly unconscious.
She could not feel a thing. She was out cold.
Blackness filled her world instantly...
As if this day couldn't have gotten any worse...
The sudden lift of a thick, smokey scent was brought to Daisy's nose as she drifted into miraculous consciousness. Slowly, her eyes struggled to flick open, but succeeded, nonetheless. Her mouth must have fallen open during her lengthy state of oblivion, considering it hung open when she finally came to. A low groan escaped from Daisy's throat as she attempted to inch her arm out from under the old woman who was now lying atop of her. Her tired eyes glared at the woman for a brief moment before realizing that she was under a pile of recently deceased bodies.
Utter shock and fear crept up her spine, and all throughout the innerworkings of her body. Her stomach churned at the thought of being toppled by dead bodies, and now she saw the reality of the situation. She was alive. Could this be real? Was this just a simple dream, a nightmare, that she'd wake up from, crying and gasping in bed?
Absolutely not.
This was extreme reality; the exact opposite of what she thought would happen in a day's worth. Another slight grunt emanated from deep within her throat, and she nearly choked on a gasp as she struggled to unlock her arm from around a seat's leg. Successfully doing so, she slowly drew her arm towards her face and whiped a warm liquid away from her forehead. She stared at her hand, examining the thick blood that had covered the palm of her hand.
She grimaced as she winced at the pain that came from her chest, feeling as though her ribs had pierced her heart. Her lungs felt weak, and were filled to the top with the heavy, thick smoke from the bus. Her right leg had been bent backwards under her body, and was near to impossible to move. No feeling came to this leg when she tried to move it; it was fractured all the way from the thigh, down to the ankle.
Daisy wriggled her body to bring some life to her muscles that seemed to fall asleep, due to sudden shock. When she felt the blood start to flow through her body, she felt a bit stronger than she was at the moment, and used this to her advantage to get out of her current situation. As quick as she could, she slowly pushed the old woman's heavy body off of her. When she achieved that task, she reached out to grab a hold of a part of the window that had been shattered out during the explosive crash. She used every bit of her upper body strength to hoist herself up into a hunched sitting position, so she could get a better look at the inside of the bus, and see if she could spot any visible exits.
She was in luck! She spotted a small opening and noticed some of the other riders had the same idea as she: escape. She sighed as she bent her body forward and crawled towards the opening, struggling from her limp leg trailing behind her. Once she came in contact with the opening, she reached her nearly limp arms above her head and grabbed a hold of the sides of the opening. She used the rest of the strength she had left to hoist herself up out of the shattered remains of the bus.
As soon as she was out of the large, toppled vehicle filled with dying, or newly dead passengers, she rolled down the side of it and hit the ground with an "Oomph!" She groaned loudly and flipped over onto her back, staring up at the tainted colors of the sky that she knew to always be so bright. She blinked a couple times to focus her vision in the bright sunlight that hit her in the face like a bullet to the forehead.
She could barely remember a thing. Everything was so hazy now. Was this really happening? Had her parents survived the meteor attack as well? What would come of Alpha Terra, now? Thoughts raced through her mind, scattering her many other thoughts.
The only thing that relieved her for the moment, was that she was alive. At the thought of a giant glass of water being splashed over her face to wake her up for being late, she managed to fake a tiny grin, and laid her head back onto the hard concrete. Her eyes drifted slowly closed, and she fell back into a heavy slumber...
