Karl snarled under his breath. This mission, while not going badly, wasn't going that great either. 2 and 3 were being somewhat insubordinate, though they were still maintaining formation. Now 4 had engine trouble, and to top it all, his sensors seemed to be acting up, suddenly lowering the damage each drone could take. While that made the mission easier and 2's strategy more workable, it didn't make him happy. If you couldn't trust your computer then your life as a pilot got a lot harder. Now there was this unidentified aircraft heading towards them. "Roger that command, we'll keep our eyes open." His men had there orders, so he didn't feel a need to give any others at this time. Spinnig briefly towards the direction of drone 4 Karl let off a burst and had to suppress a whoop of excitement as the stream took the drone full on. This just never got old. Turning back north, Karl continued in that direction, planning on turning into the enemy.

Re: Alpha Squadron

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Dashmiel on Tue Jan 06, 2009 11:29 pm

Artemis found it suspicious that a cargo plane would fly into restricted airspace and not respond to any communication attempts. That simply did not fit the cargo plane bill, since cargo planes needed to know the airspace they flew in extremely well in order to ship their cargo in time and depended a lot on communication in order to carry out their mission. That and the fact they were usually piloted by experienced older pilots who often were retired military men and women made it all the more suspicious. Artemis had a bad feeling about it and it was accompanied by an unfortable chill down his spine. He ran some simulations and tried to see how things would work out in the worst case scenario. Artemis had modified his plane's computer systems without HQ's knowledge with the help of one of the younger and newer tech guys. He and Artemis shared a different view on the usage to the computer systems to what HQ had authorized, and after a few beers they snuck down to the hangar and did a few "tune-ups". The results were many, the least of them being that Artemis had more control over his plane's systems than his squadmates, and could run simulations for more than the current mission, a feature the higher ups had blocked for fear that their pilots would get sidetracked. Artemis was a bit annoyed at the fact that the computer found the probabilities of them being able to handle a surprise attack to be a mere 30%, based on the most part on Pilot Error and Squadron Cooperation. He closed down the simulation and activated his weapon systems. He aimed his guns at "Drone 4" who was directly in front of him and whose engines were releasing a thick stream of smoke after being hit by Alpha 1's guns. A few more shots and it would be blasted out of the sky. Artemis fired a volley of high end, high caliber Phantom Bullets that were the envy of Enemy military and civilian weapons designers alike. The Drone's unarmored sides did not stand a chance and it was promptly in flames and headed down to earth with gravity as it's Styx conductor. So much money in flames, yet a step closer to mission success in Artemi's opinion. He pulled the stick to the right and then up. His plane followed suit.

Unlike her coldly calculating teammate, Allix yelped with surprise when one of the drone moved directly into her line of vision, swerving to the side.

She didn't bother thinking on the reasons why a cargo ship would be coming into their territory, why it wouldn't bother responding. She barely listened. By now she was all instincts, or as much all insticts as she ever had the capacity to be.

All she really cared about right now, was that, as she carreened above the drone, firing down, was that she really didn't want any help, as a loud cheer flew free of her throat.

Marcus watched as the main force engaged the enemy, however something was off.. Oh yes, one of them fell behind. It was Alpha 4. Taking a closer look he watched as the Aircraft was quickly slowing down. "Alpha 4 is having engine troubles, he could be going down and perish shortly." Marcus's voice did have a hint of care, but right now, his attention was to the mission. Besides, Alpha 4 was more of a security risk then an actual combat pilot. Better for stunt planes then a military machine. Marcus felt the Booster finally end, as the fuel to it was cut off from the switch he just flipped. Cutting his Engines he lets himself drift through the air for a moment, gliding on what speed he still had as he quickly slowed down. If he just waited for a moment longer, the Drones would come to him. He knew this, and he hoped that Alpha 6 would also get the momento to slow down and wait for the Drones to fly right into the hellish rain of Bullets. Ahhh, how it was good to be a Combat Pilot...

Crap Alpha Squadron, this mission is turning in all sorts of ways. Must have been the bad luck of flying together for the first time!

Alpha 4 has disappeared from radar, and Alpha 6 is showing signs of engine trouble as well! Be advised that drones five and six are also showing signs of engine trouble, do not, I repeat, do not fire on drones five or six until further notice. We don't know what's going on out there, stay away and continue on with the other drones.

Also, bogey transport will be in your combat air space in sixty seconds. Alpha 1, I need you to have one of your members hail it, and scan the cargo hold. Our long range scanners are not picking up anything, but I want to be sure. Your call Alpha 1, but do not fire on the transport!

Carry on Alpha Squadron!

[[ OOC: Wow, what a start haha. Okay so Ice is officially out of the squadron and has disappeared. If Kronos misses another turn, his plane will go down as well.

As for the other drones who are having engine troubles, I'm going to tie it all together within the mission, so just follow orders regarding them for now.

Jedi, as for scanning the inbound transport when it arrives, have your member fly adjacent to it, and use the action 'scan'. It'll count for their turn, and you will not be able to fire.

I guess now that the slow member is gone, we can keep things at a steady pace! :) ]]

"Roger that, command." The frustration in Karl's voice was obvious. This was a flippin' training mission, it shouldn't be this hard. They were already down one pilot, it was possible they were going to lose another, two drones were acting up, and they had an unknown inbound. He'd had combat missions that were simpler than this. "This just doesn't seem to be our day Alpha's. Let's get the remaining drones down ASAP. Five, be prepared to disengage and intercept that transport when it shows up. It sounds like it will be coming from your direction. Everyone keep your eyes open." Karl went up and around two, coming in beside drone five. Letting off a burst at Drone three, which was ahead and two his right, he saw it land solidly. Hopefully this mission wasn't some indication of what all their missions would be like.

'What a lovely mess, what a lovely marriage of chaos and confusion we find ourselves in" Said Artemis to no one in particular. He was thinking about how simple this mission had been pitched to them in the briefing room that morning. A simple fly and shoot mission, you'll be done in a few hours tops guys. That's what they had been told. How funny a thing was fate. Artemis was mainly worried about the transport, his gut feeling telling him something was terribly wrong. He pushed the barrage of images that his brain conjured, and moved out to continue the mission. This time, instead of shooting at the drones, he backtracked in the direction the drones were moving, in order to later halt their progress and be better positioned for his worst case scenario.

Marcus smiled for a moment, he was finally going to get into the fight. Finally.. Then.. He heard HQ.. Then, he heard that damn order. Now while he was pleased that he was being trusted to do this by his commanding officer, he also felt somewhat defeated. He couldn't defeat any of the Drones now. Oh well. be advised HQ has been tracing a large transport flying westward. In that case, wouldn't it be flying from the East to get to the West? Well, if he has to do this than so be it. But he'll have to fly through the Drones first.. How annoying.. "Roger that. I'm on my way East to intercept wandering big bird.. Also, it doesn't look too reassuring that my Fuel Gauge just went unresponsive." Marcus spoke into his mic in his calm military voice, but it had a slight hint of worry in it. Due to the fact that the Fuel Gauge meter just died for no reason. Hitting the Boosters once again, Marcus decides to put an estimate on his Fuel based on how well the Boosters worked.

Inbound bogey as appeared on radar. We have marked it green for neutral, do not fire on the target unless ordered. Alpha 1, have someone hail the aircraft, and see if you can get a response. Also, remember to scan it's cargo hold!

Secondly, Alpha 6 has fallen off radar as well as Drones 5 and 6. HQ reports no crashes or fires, we're still working on what's going on out there. Keep an eye out for anything suspicious, stay on the drones and watch out for that transport!

[[ OOC:

Okay, so we're going to add a few more rules. Once something new happens and there's a rule placed in, it'll become 'the rule' for that situation. So the new rules are as follows:
1. To communicate with an enemy unit, you must be within 5 tiles
2. To scan an enemy unit, you must be beside it

Also, I've been noticing ... I just want to say that although your boost is now 5, and your firing range is 2 ... it does not mean you have to use those numbers. They are simply a max. If you want to boost 4 tiles, or shoot 1 tile, that's fine as well. :) ]]

"Five, move into position to hail and scan that bird. Three, move in to support five, just in case." Karl silently cursed himself for not having thought of having someone move to support Marcus earlier, especially now that six was gone. He had a very bad feeling about all of this. Nothing had seemed to have gone right on this mission. Two and himself would stick there to get the rest of the drones down quick. Hopefully nothing would happen with the cargo plane, but he was doubting that. Moving back into position behind the third drone, Karl fired, delivering another massive blow to the drone. He smiled behind his oxygen mask as he saw it burst into flames and start to lose altitude. If two got drone 1 down, they'd be both should be able to take down the last one in no time. At least that part was going right, the rest of this mission just seemed to be turning into one big SNAFU.

Artemis's sense of foreboding eased up a bit after hearing Alpha 1 order Alpha 3 to back up Alpha 5. He was glad he was not the only one whose thoughts regarding the cargo plane were grim at best. Now that the matter was taken care of he took Alpha 1's lack of orders at him as an unspoken order in itself to finish the assigned mission. He quite agreed, and took his mind of the transport and focused it on his screens. He flew towards Drone 1 and let out a quick volley barely within range. He was pleased to see that despite a great part of the bullets missed their mark, enough of them landed across the side of the drone. Smoke issued from it's engines and soon a fire flared to life as it began it's quick fall from grace. Artemis then quickly changed his heading westward then southward and flew towards Drone 2, who to Artemis's irritation was still beyond the range of his guns as the nose of his fighter pointed towards it. "Alpha 1, I got your wing, what do you say we take out this bogey as fast as our guns will allow and end this mission?" Said Artemis in a voice that despite being level and calm still betrayed a hint of worry. He still had doubts about the intent of the cargo plane and hoped they could finish of the drone quickly so they could all focus on the unknown threat looming over the horizon.

Allix let out a howl of rage as Alpha 2 took down her target, and when she started simmering down again, her face remained in a firm scowl, as she flicked on the mike, "I'm on it."
Her voice came out as a growl, but she didn't really care at the moment, as she turned face the cargo ship.
Big fucker, she thought, pushing back thoughts of what a big explosion it would make as she hit her boosters, and running her orders through her head like a mantra.

Marcus frowned a bit as he continued to boost. He hoped that not only could he get a good scan of it's Cargo, but if he could see any label or unique paint job, maybe he could request HQ to know who's side it's on. Maybe. Or maybe this was just a somewhat crazy Dream. "Hey Alpha 3, if the Aircraft doesn't respond try and see if there is any combat damage or unique label on it. If we can't find out why it's here, maybe we can find out who's it from." He stopped talking at that moment, and changed the Radio frequency so that it was on all public and private channels. "Unknown Aircraft, you are entering restricted Airspace. Identify yourself, or you may meet a quick end." Marcus once again switched the Radio Frenquency back to that of his Squadmates. He made damned sure that the unknown bogey would recognise the danger he was in. If not, oh well. One hundred more Credits for good ol' Marcus.

Watch out Alpha Squadron, that transport just launched two drones. They are HOSTILE. The situation has changed, ignore the last training drone and turn your attention on those two fighter drones. All weapons are free, go get them Alpha. Also, the transport is still neutral, do not fire!

We have updated your grid, here is the breakdown:

Green - Neutral

"Roger that Alpha 1. Moving to intercept, missiles armed and ready for lock." Said Artemis, his voice once more a calm monotone. He was in the "Zone" now, and ready for whatever laid ahead. His left hand moved in a flurry of motion as he worked his computers and released all of the locks on his weaponry. He then moved in the opposite direction Alpha 1 was moving, in order maneuver past the now deactivated drone, an remain at Alpha 1's wing. Artemis then switch his radio from the general channel to Alpha 1's private frequency. "Alpha 1, we have to consider the fact that the transport might have more up it's sleeve. If that is the case, then HQ's orders will put us and our comrades in peril. As second in command, I advice that the possibility of re-establishing the rules of engagement as per the flow of battle remain open. I understand the gravity of such a recommendation, but it might necessary to our success with the minimum cost of lives possible. Alpha 2 out." Artemis then focused on moving, and positioned himself by Alpha 1's wing.

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Brovo on Tue Jan 27, 2009 2:10 am

Marcus watched as the cargo bay door opened up, unleashing two Drones which immediatly began to head his way. "Alpha 3! I'll bait them straight to you! Just cut your Boosters and get ready to blow them all to Kingdom Come!" Taking one quick look at his controls, Marcus arms one of his missiles as he pulls back. Feeling gravity push down on him, Marcus closes his eyes for a moment as the sun floods through the glass of the Cockpit. Opening his eyes, he quickly flips himself upright and quickly checks his heading. He was a bit off in his calculations after all. He really SHOULD have put a bit of a twist into his flip, then maybe he would've been able to turn more towards Alpha 3's possition. Oh well. His mistake.
