WarTorn (No longer accepting)

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Wolven Warrior on Thu Nov 20, 2008 8:53 am

This is a restart of a roleplay I tried to get going a while ago. I have tweaked it slightly, and hopefully now people will enjoy the plot more. I posted this in the interest check section first, and although no one actually replied I had a post rating of five stars, or have that at the moment (the voting period has not ended yet). So I am hoping that means the plot is better and more people will be interested this time round. Anyhow, on with the RP.

WARTORN

The world is in chaos, but then it has been for as long as anyone can remember. The reason for the war between the two different superpowers has been long forgotten, but it rages on. Attempts have been made to find peace, but all have failed. Even when a peace treaty has been signed, within the next few months the war would start all over again. The people of the world were too used to war; if there was no war, they reasoned, then what was their purpose in life? So the battle continued. Both sides were strong, but neither any more so than the other. When two powers, which were unequal in terms of strength, go to war, it usually ends after twenty years or so. But this war is too evenly matched, and it seems none can stop it. At times it seems none want to, but this is not so. There are always groups of people seeking peace, although it is almost impossible they will get it.

Some of those who want peace are simply tired of the fighting; many have lost friends and family in the violence. Others are the wives of men fighting in the war, sick with fear that their husbands will never come home again. They hold many non-violent protests. They are ignored. In a world of violence, nothing else grabs peoples attention. Even away from the frontlines, fights break out. No one does anything to stop them, the fights are seen as good entertainment. Often a barkeeper would pay two men to start fighting, or only pay whichever one was the victor. Even without these bribes fights would start anyway, the bribes were simply an excuse to start fighting even more quickly than they would have if they had been waiting for some accidental physical contact, a misplaced word perhaps, using these also as excuses to being a fight.

As it becomes apparent from the fights I speak of above, there are those who love the violence. They are the majority; and this is why the war always restarts when peace treaties are reached. The bulk of both sides both want the violence to continue, and so when the peace treaties are made they will make up any reason they can think of to convince their ruling government to abolish the peace agreement. Around a third of the government of one side, The Olkun’ut, and around the same from the opposing side, The Kerait. Those people supported these appeals and eventually one side or the other abolished the peace agreement.

But there is a third nation. Or at least there was. This nation had the misfortune to be in between The Olkun’ut and The Kerait. In the bloody conflicts they were imprisoned. Those who were useful were made to help the side they had been captured by, those who were not had been killed. The two sides had no place for those who were of no use, and who were also not their own.

Some of this nation still survives, although it is a nation no longer. They are wanderers, herdsmen. They have no nation to whom they owe allegiance. They are now left alone for the most part, but they still remember the horrors of the attacks on them in an attempt to get to the real enemy, from both directions. Some wanted revenge, some wish to be left in peace.

Now a group of Kerait are approaching the Olkun'ut. But this time things are different. One has come to the throne who is against the war, one who wants its end. And he has decided that this time, to make things different, the two convoys will not be meeting on neutral ground, no. He is sending a group of only five people. Two expert diplomats, and three of the finest warriors in the land of the Kerait. These warriors however, have trained from birth and have no love for war, despite being around it all their lives. In fact, it is because they have been around it so long they hate it. They want peace, and they know the best way to get it is to protect the two diplomats.

The Kerait leader hopes that sending only five men will show trust. He only hopes that this trust will be well recieved, and will finally bring peace among the Kerait and Olkun'ut. He also knows that if this peace does come, many will rebel against it, but then it would never be easy to pull the nations from eternal war. He would just have to hope he would win through in the end.

The two Nations are tearing each other apart. If there is no end to the violence, it lies in one thing for both sides. Complete and utter Destruction.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Below are the two main roles that can be fulfilled, although if you want a different one please tell me. I will either play a Diplomat or one of the two leaders of the Kerait and Olkun'ut, most probably the Okun'ut leader. I would like then, for someone else to volunteer for the leader of the Kerait.

Diplomat:
You will be one of the two expert diplomats, who will be trying to find peace with the Olkun'ut. I qwould quite like a Olkun'ut diplomat also, to even things out a bit.

Warrior:
As the name suggests, if you take up this role you are one of the warriors protecting the two diplomats sent to the Olkun'ut in search of peace.

Also, you are allowed to take on a MINOR role as a member of the old third nation who now lives alone or with a very few others. Also you could play a minor role as a civilian living in either the Olkun'ut or Kerait nation. These would be small parts to your posts, just to give a general roundness to the roleplay. I will fulfil one of these roles, although I am still deciding which one exactly.

The Kerait:
This nation is a nation that is completely and utterly sold out to the war; the group of protestors is extremely small. Even though they protest against the war, around a third of this group are violent protestors. It has been mainly the Kerait that have broken any peace treaties between the two countries; although the Olkun'ut also break some of the treaties, and would do everytime if the Kerait did not beat them to it. The whole nation is covered in training compounds, and the living quarters are squeezed in between them. They are small and run down for the most part, but many of them are empty. The ones who live there are women, children, the disabled, the old and then the young men who are being trained in the art of warfare. All able bodied men are fighting in the war; their absence would seem strange to an outsider but in the nation of the Kerait it is normal. The only reason the Kerait has not been victorious is because although almost everyone is geared for war, they are a smaller nation.

The Olkun'ut:
There are those of the Olkun'ut who are against the war, a much larger group than the one in the Kerait. They are for the most part non-violent protestors, although some are extremists who believe that "violence should be used to end violence". for this reason many of the men do not leave for war, refusing as they wish for there to be peace. The living conditions are slightly better in the Olkun'ut nation; although there are training compounds by the dozen there is still plenty of room for the houses, as the Olkun'ut owns more land, and is an altogether bigger nation. If it were not for this larger population they would have fallen to the Kerait long ago, as their nation is less pleased with the ongoing war. It is usually the Olkun'ut who make the peace treaties come into existence, although they also sometimes abolish those treaties.

Character sheet format:

Name:
Age:
Appearance:
Nation:
Class:
History(Optional*):
Weapons+:
Personality:

*=If you do not write a short history, then I would like you to make sure it comes out in the roleplay. If you can't do that, please write a history. If you can, great.

+=Only Warriors and the leaders of the two nations should have any major weapons, other could have a small dagger or something but nothing major like a broadsword. The weapons are all medival style, no guns only swords and the other weapons used at those times.

Also, I will not be writing a character sheet due to the fact that I despise them. I will be bringing out the personality and appearance and so on throughout the roleplay, the appearance mainly in the first post, the rest throughout the rest of the roleplay.

Awesome! I'm surprised no one bit. Hrm, one question though. Are women allowed to be warriors? Please?

Thanks, I spent two and a half hours straight writing this so at least SOMEONE is interested...xD
And in answer to your question, that would be fine. It would actually provide quite an interesting contrast; perhaps people do not approve of it? That could be and added, smaller personnel conflict in the roleplay almost, so yeah it is fine a woman as a warrior would be quite interesting to have I think.

Post your character sheet whenever, I look forward to roleplaying with you :-)

Name: Aran (like Erin) Shumanzsch
Age: 19
Appearance: Image
If you look closely, she's laying on top of a sword. Otherwise it's perfect.
Nation: Kerait
Class: Warrior
History(Optional*): Aran was brought up as the daughter of a high-ranking official's daughter; at the time she was born, Kerait was in dire need of warriors. So her father disfuised her as a boy and sent her off to the bunkers to train, at which she excelled at-- until one day her secret was exposed. Due to the pleading of her father and her skill in combat, Aran was allowed-- no, forced-- to continue training. She was one of the best, and yet frowned down upon by many because of her gender. She was an outcast from society, the only one of her kind. It never seemed like it bothered her, but deep down, it hurt her more than she let on. She saw other kids playing happily in the streets; other girls courting men and such. But Aran wouldn't marry; whether it be because men were too intimidated by her status as a warrior, or whether it would be frowned upon to marry a female warrior. So instead of dreaming about what would never be hers, Aran made a title for herself among the warriors. She is known as the Snow Swordsman, because of her peculiar snow-white hair. Many opponents underestimated her and paid the price. Still more mistook her as a man because of ehr title, then didn't hide the shock when the her, not him. Since those days, the Snow Swordsman has tried amongst the officials for numerous treaties, all of which have failed. She hopes this new one will work.
Weapons+: The extremely huge sword portrayed in the picture, as well as a crossbow and a few poisoned daggers. Hey, ya can't be too prepared :D
Personality: Years of battle and watching people die needlessly has hardened Aran, along with her outcastment from the society of Kerait. She seems cold and heartless, as well as merciless, and that's how she was taught to be. She's not supposed to have any true feelings, just be a killing machine, and yet she does feel compassion and pity. Usually she is one to state her mind, although she is not one for small talk or the trivialities of formality. Inside her burns the passion of making peace; she hates the fighting.

Both of you are fine, Kittycat your character sheet is good and yes you can reserve a spot I have no problem with that.

I forgot to post some rules before, yes people dont like them but they are needed, so anyway here are the rules for this roleplay

1. NO godmodding. Do it once you get a warning do it twice your kicked from the RP
2. Post AT LEAST ten sentences per post. You may feel you cant but it isnt hard if you just think about it, characters feelings, thoughts, speech and action. Combine them all in each post and you can get 200 words into a post easy each time, you just have to think about it
3. No OOC in the IC thread, all OOC discussion should go on in this thread
4. Read the OOC thread even if you do not post in it so you know what the plan is for the plot of the roleplay
5. If you will be away without posting for two days or more please say so in the OOC thread
6. If you will be dropping out of the roleplay TELL ME and make a conclusive post so that the roleplay can carry on undisturbed
7. Read other peoples posts, don't scan read in case you miss something important. If you are away for a very long time and come back with several pages to read, then I can write up a summary of what has happened if you dont have the time to read through it all

If anyone has a problem with any of these rules please tell me ASAP so we can sort it out.

Name: Jurige Essesspol
Age: 23
Appearance:Image
Nation: Kerait
Class: Diplomat
History(Optional*): He was lucky enough to be rather well off family who's household head was one of the previous king's most trusted generals, Gasiduso Essesspol. Jurige's studies were said to be a success along with his physical training. He seemed to have a very promising career a head of him. At the of 19 he was put in charge a squadron for the first time; this first in his rather short combat history was ruined by a less than trusty stead. It's defiance that started as the blood was drawn resulted in a kick that rendered Jurige paralyzed from the waist down; this caused two year hiatus for all things military for the lad. Gasiduso’s capture and execution at the hands of a group of Olkun'ut extremist was small tragedy for the Keratin military.
The public, along with various officials felt desperate need for an active Essesspol led to Jurige’s period of simply being dead on crunches to a stop; Seeing that the only child that the late Gasiduso was a daughter Jurige had had very little options. He simply started to work exclusively as a tactician for the following year and managed to help keep the dead lock between the sides. Although the public was not disappointed by the fair work of the fresh meat tactician, his reputation went down the tubes due to a few rumors. The suspicions of Jurige secretly masquerading as a peddler to protect his identity in a series of nonviolent war protest were eventually regarded as fact. When confronted with both physical and circumstantial evidence he neither confirmed or denied the claims; this landed him in prison until he recived a notice of from the new king which requested his services.
Weapons+: He keeps a three pronged throwstick with him as reminder of is old hunting trips he had with his father and sister.
Personality: Keeping cool in all every possible decision or at least faking calm is priority for Jurige. Putting on a mask for the public is typical of government officials in all ages but it has come to attention that this is especially true to Jurige, who has been known to forthright, flexible, and overall obedient in his formal affiars and military skirmishes but rather almost curt and much more opinionated in private. He has been known for his chivalry and love of debate on both occasions.

If it does not feel right I would like to apologize in advance. I have not roleplayed for about a month. In addition to this I have rarley used the medieval setting. Please alert me though Pm if I need to make any major changes in order to make it fit better and be accepted.

Albel your character is fine, you may not have roleplayed for about a month but you clearly remember how its done xD.

Cuppa, that is fine. I imagine that all of us will be online at strange times to other people, depending on where different people live due to the timezones. You can join as a warrior sure, then we have two of our warriors and one/two of the diplomats (depending on who else joins I might play a diplomat alongside my posts for the leaders of each nation, in which case the posts for the leaders would be a bit shorter and I would focus on the diplomat mainly).

We still need another sign up, preferably two so I can focus on the leaders of both nations. So if anyone else wants to join you can be a warrior or diplomat, as there is a space left for both roles. But if someone takes the role of warrior/diplomat before you post, please play the role of whichever hasnt been taken.

char sheet: (preapproved via PM)

Name: Nick
Age: 25
Appearance: Tall, dark and handsome (jk)
6'0, 200lbs, and covered in scars from past battles. he wears black trousers and a black shirt with the right sleeve being long and the left one cut off.
Nation: None (third nation that got destroyed)
Class: Warrior
History(Optional*): when he was 12, his family got in the crossfire of the two warring nations. everyone except him was killed. somehow, he was the only one to survive and vowed to stop another occurrence like this by becoming the strongest warrior on the continent. He trained for the next 13 years with his father's sword. at the time it was as long as he was, but the more he trained the better he got. as he grew, so did he sword he wielded now it's almost as tall as he is, but he can still wield it proficiently. Recently he joined a group small group of people on a mission for yet another peace treaty. he didn't care about politics and treaties but went along anyways knowing that a lot of fighting would beset the party. and there was nothing Nick enjoyed more than fighting.
Weapons+: Giant broadsword attached to his back, as well as 3 small throwing daggers in the sleeve of his shirt.
Personality: a little unstable mentally, the only thing he knows is how to kill. however he also has loyalty bound by contract and is notorious for it. he does what he's paid to do and as a result he is seen as reliable and useful by both nations. Very often he will fight over the same piece of land for months on end because as soon as the point was captured his contract ran out and the opposite side would hire him. still, to him the goal was always the same, get rich, get skilled, kill people.

EDIT: sorry, honeykun, i know you posted before me, but i got this sheet approved earlier this morning. sorry for the inconvenience.

Your character sheet is fine Pulse. All who have posted a character sheet are accepted. I will give it another twelve hours or so and then post the IC thread and kick things off. I am giving it that time span so that anyone who wants to take the role of the remaining diplomat has the time to post. I have PMed honeykun, so hopefully they will accept and I can focus on the leaders of the two nations. If not I will play the remaining diplomat also, while leaving the slot open for someone to take over from me as the diplomat, although they would have to go with the appearance I chose if that happened.

So yeah, I will edit this post to give a link to the in character thread once it is up. Can everyone try to keep using this thread throughout the roleplay, so that we all know what everyone else has planned and we can make sure the roleplay goes smoothly. Also it will help to keep the IC thread tidy, It looks better without a load of OOC mixed in I find xD.

Haha I didn't think it mattered so much in the OOC forums but now it's bugging me. I really have the urge to post a profile but i like doing the whole 'reaveal it as you post' yadda yadda yadda, yknow? 75? It says I have 393 characters so far, plus all the ones after that number (went back and changed it when i realised it changed) do you mean words rahter than characters? Aha! It is words!

Hehe,

It annoys me seeing the red cross also...XD we are too fussy. Cuppa it is fine if you let your character come out during the roleplay, I am after all...

..Ok so we have all the warriors we need: Cuppa, Pulse and Kittycat97. If anyone wants to join can they please fulfil the role as the remaining diplomat. I will make the IC thread later; I said I would give some more time for the last person to join yesterday so I will wait a little while so that anyone who wants to join can join at the roleplays start. If they dont within the next couple of hours I will start the RP.

EDIT: The IC is up ----> wartorn-t14315.html <----- Thats the link :) Please post whenver you want to.

No more people are to be accpeted now. Only people who have already joined can post in the IC. Please carry on using this thread for discussion so we can all talk and make sure the roleplay keeps going and is a success.

Does anybody else notice a theme in the roster. We have a frail genius, a hulking bonehead, a women, a child and cripple. Diversity and weakness anyone? Is this a just a coicidence or do you did some of see a trend and tried to build on it? I think that this theme and the choice might affect the character of the King Yerchico significally.

@ Cupppa:
The profile is useful tool and has beocme a standard for a reason. If someone has one character idea and they see that someone profile and notice a lot of simularities then that someone might want to make a few changes to add a little varitiy. There is also the trust isse in copetence. I do see your point, though. My method is to leave a lot of gaps in the written biography and mostly put vague stuff that would commonly be known to the public.
