Werewolves are not monsters from fairytales. Most lead normal lives. They can go to school, get a job, raise a family just like any other human. But there's a catch. If they don't shift frequently, they become ravenous when the full moon is out. The wolf in them comes out, more hungry and cruel then ever.
They wolf gene is passed down from parents- even if just one parent is a werewolf, their child will have the same fate as them. Wolves abandoning their pack and having a child with a human is very, very rare. They are usually born into a pack. Werewolves can tell if another person is a werewolf or human, even before their first change. They usually change for the first time when they are about thirteen. Packs often have scouts that find packless werewolves that don't know who they are, and befriend them so when their first change comes, they take them to the pack and they are adopted in.
But werewolves can also be bitten. If a human is bitten by a werewolf, they will change immediately. The first change is very long and very painful, for Changlings and natural-born werewolves. It can take anywhere from four to ten hours. If another werewolf doesn't help them through their first change, they will likely die. When a werewolf bites a human and helps them through their first change, they are bound together. They can sense each others feelings, and speak to each other telepathically. Once a werewolf bites a human, they are completely responsible for the confused and overwhelmed Changling. They have a hard time controlling changing back and forth between human and wolf, and the world is now so bright it hurts their eyes, and every noise hurts their ears. Werewolves often take their Changling away from the rest of the pack until they have fully adjusted, which can take weeks.

But this story starts with a small pack in the small town of White Pine, Michigan. It was such a small, woodsy place they had no trouble living there. They where very tight-knit and family-like. Even those who had been scouted where like brothers and sisters to those who had been born into the pack. It was rather small, with no more then eight wolves. Little did they know, a rouge pack was hunting them.
The rouge pack's alpha, had been the father of the former Alpha Female of the White Pine pack. The alpha female had died of illness soon after having her second son, Matt. But her father blamed his daughter's mate. For her death. It hadn't been his fault in any way and he was shattered without her, but her father needed someone to blame. and so he took revenge. When her daughter's sons, his grandchildren, where grown and just about ready to find a mate of their own, he and his pack struck. They killed every female in the pack. In his mind, he was saving them from the same fate that his daughter had. Yeah, he was a little off his rocker.
The White Pine pack was devastated. The alpha was so overwhelmed with loss all over again, he was almost driven mad from it. Moving on was very difficult for the small pack. Females play a very important role in a pack. Without them, there is a lack of calm. Packmates that where once brothers fought often.
So the alpha decided something. The four of his youngest, most important wolves where to find and change a human.
The White Pine pack had a cabin in the woods that they alpha and some of the elders stayed at in the summer, when it was too warm to stay in wolf form. The wolves would take their changling there, until they had adjusted to life as a wolf. Then the alpha would decide if they where suitable to join their pack. Any of them who where too weak, or he wasn't sure about, would not be allowed in. They would most likely be killed.
