City Streets: A mature Cyberpunk RP

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Skallagrim on Mon Dec 24, 2007 4:33 pm

I am thinking of starting a Mature Cyberpunk RP if there is interest it it. I am posting some of the background and rules:

CITY STREETS- You must have a character preapproved prior to posting. No exceptions.

The background: A cyberpunk RP based in the near future of 2043. The great 2012 fiasco came and went. Much like the Y2K scare, nothing much happened. The rich got richer the poor became destitute and the cost of wars and armies became too expensive for nations to bankroll anymore. It became easier to hire firms to fight these little actions all over the world.
The Chinese finally toppled their communist system and became fully capitalist, spawn and new economic war as the Chinese realized they had the man power to out produce the rest of the world because of cheap labor.

The Soviet Union reformed, fell under terrorist attack and broke apart again. The main reason was the seizure of the vast oil fields in Siberia by the Chinese. The remnants of the soviet empire drifted and fell into fighting among themselves causing millions to flee into Western Europe as refugees.
The Islamic Empire united in 2011 and after a long 3year struggle established it self as a world power with its capital in Babylon. The Islamic Empire tried a physical war against the West and failed miserably when the combined military might of the world crushed the 40 million man army that was threatening the south of Europe.

India and Pakistan waged a limited nuclear war in 2015 which caused the first of the global frosts covering the world in ash for 3 months. After that exchange other countries decided that they too could use weapons of mass destruction. Turkey and Israel and to a limited extent the Islamic Empire waged a limited nuclear war which brought the second global frost. This covered the world in nuclear ash and blocked the sun out for seven months. Nearly one billion people world wide died from the two nuclear frosts.
The western countries developed floating platforms in 2021 and quickly these platforms became the haven of the rich and elite. The Japanese during this time the perfect the humanoid robot. These robots were quickly developed and upgraded until they had almost a human appearance and intelligence.

The US felt that robotics were a stop gap measure and advanced their studies in biogenetics and cybernetic augmentation. In 2024 the first vat grown human was developed. A year later the first augmented human as shown to the world. Other Western countries such as the EU decided that they couldn’t keep pace with either the Japanese or US in their research decided to focus on cyber-linking man and machines. In 2028 the first Panzer Boy was placed on line. Large fast hover tanks with a man inside who was linked through a node in his cerebral cortex and the computer brain of the machine. This led to the development of the Rocket jocks, sleek fast aircraft similarly linked as the tanks.
Cities have sprawled across the world; crime is rampant and new designer drugs are flooding the city streets. The large floating cities where the elites live are protected by private armies of cyborgs and rocket boys. Huge corporate factories have massive city sized complexes where they have employees live and work. Data theft is rampant as corporations fight to corner their respective markets.

The Game starts in the sprawling city of the Bay Area Collective (BAC) floating about this vast peninsula collective is the city of San Francisco with its private army/police force of cyborgs and rocket jocks. The City has been the subject of series of raids by a clandestine group of terrorist who are raiding the food tanks and water tanks to give to the poorest people in BAC. The city of San Francisco has decided to hire mercenaries to crush this group called Freedom against San Francisco. (FASA) This group is lead by a street priest but so far no one has been able to identify who this mysterious priest is.
Another attack has occurred on San Francisco and the city is responding with a crackdown on homeless people to “punish” those who stole from the city. There is violence on the streets for anyone the cyborg troops feel like punishing.

Occupations: The choices available to you. (All characters have to be sent to the GM and approved prior to posting)

The Wealthy- these are people who have either old or new money. They reside in the vast sprawling floating cities or have great estates with their own personal armies.

Pop heads- druggies who haunt the streets looking for their next fix or the money to get it. Most pop heads have a smattering of skills which serve them well in the dark city street they live on. Most have firearms or some sort of melee weapon.

Ghosts- mercenaries trained by the old armies of the world as special operatives. These lethal killers have limited enhancements. They specialize in wet works, and have connections that would shame any of the old world intelligence agencies. Highly paid, highly skilled. Occasionally they fight for their own reasons, accepting no money.

Star fighter- professional fighters who fight and train in zero-gravity cages in televised matches. They are the undisputed hand to hand combatants in the world. Think of this as pro wrestling personalities with the skill of UFC fighters, all in zero gravity. Celebrities they rely on their popularity to continue providing them income, once they become out of favor with the fans they become muscle for those who can afford them.

Street priests- men and woman of faith who believe in this time, Armageddon has come and they have been left to save the souls of the non-believers and to punish the wicked if they have too. Often heavily armed and armored they search for the lost and bring them to the light.

Cyborg- men and woman who have sacrificed humanity and body parts to become sleek metal killing machines. The usual composition of body guards and private armies are made of cyborgs. They have weapons built into their frames and are capable in a firefight; however they tend to lose their sanity rapidly. They are massive, heavily armored living platforms of vast destructive power.

Data thieves- men and women who have sacrificed huge amounts of their memory to carry stored stolen data which they down load in the databanks of the highest bidders. These are the ultimate thieves, risking everything to break into massive vaults of corporations to steal their innermost secrets and sell them.

Panzerboyz- men and woman who have had neural attachments fused to their cerebral cortex to control the massive hover tanks they take their name from. They run covert missions for the highest bidder and smuggle anything and everything. They are a boastful and arrogant group when in their panzers and with good reason. Impulse control of 60 ton vehicles moving at 200 mph is impressive. The gather in clans called Panzer Gruppes.

Rocket Jocks- men and woman who have had neural attachments fused to their cerebral cortex to control the sleek fighter craft they take their name from. The private protection of the great floating cities. These are the most arrogant of people because they can do something only 12% of the population can do, fly the sleek rocket planes. They gather in clans called Wings and often fight amongst themselves in the sky and upper atmosphere.

The writer who cares more about words than about characters, action, setting, atmosphere is unlikely to create a vivid and continuous dream; he gets in his own way too much; in his poetic drunkenness, he can't tell the cart- and its cargo- from the horse.

(OOC: This is my character for the RP. I am hoping more people show interest and post a character here, once we have a few interested players we can start this RP)

Character Template: City Streets
Name: Erich Sagaan
Sex: Male
Age: Unknown but in his mid-late thirties

Occupation: Ghost, he works as a security consultant for the rich of San Francisco.

Description: Erich wears very expensive suits and trendy shoes. He always dresses to the nines and carries a black oak cane with a silver heavy knob. Erich speaks in a slight accent, and his eyes are oddly metallic flaked, indicating they are augmented and probably mil-spec in capability.
Erich stands a little over 6’tall and weighs in about 190 lbs. Erich keeps his hair cut high and tight and with his baritone voice people usually acquiesce to him because he project a presence of authority. From the ease when he moves it is apparent he keeps himself in fighting trim.
Erich has a peccadillo of wearing gloves at all times and a single pink rose in his lapel. No one in public has ever seen him remove is gloves which has started the rumors that his hands were damaged and he hides the scars.

Background: Erich Saagan once worked for Army Intelligence; just no one is sure whose army and was a wet works asset during the last attempts of White Russia trying to declare a Soviet hegemony in Eastern Europe. Erich is fluent in four languages besides English; he speaks fluent Amharic, Japanese, Russian, and German.
He is an expert in military martial arts, indicating that he has served in someone’s army. Erich works out on a regular basis with and keeps himself in fighting shape, while not in the league of a Star fighter; he is very deadly martial combatant.
Erich has made a name for himself as a very capable security specialist and fixer among those who have the money to spend. He is a very expensive asset charging close to a what a company of private army would cost alone.
Erich has ties to Europe and Japan, and is usually up to date on the latest political and military actions in those spheres of influence.
He is the quintessential Ghost, he has dropped hints of his past and has extremely unlikely ties but very little is actually know about him.

Equipment: He wears armored clothes. His jackets have a thin Kevlar layer sewn into them. He carries a semiautomatic hand gun in a swivel belt holster and two thin throwing knives hanging from a sheath under his jacket on his back.
He has augmented eyes which he can flick with a thought to infrared and night vision, allowing him to see in near dark conditions. Erich’s cane is a solid steel rod with a faux wood shell and a heavy titanium knob on top. Erich has a sleek and fast German made sedan and the vehicle has armored windows, doors and run flat tires.
He also carries a small motion detector on his wrist that appears as a watch, he prefers not to fight but talk his way out of things, but if things get messy he is prepared.

Re: City Streets: A mature Cyberpunk RP

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Black_Dragon on Mon Dec 24, 2007 10:16 pm

Name: Ryan 'Red Death' Shano
Sex: Female
Age: 24
Occupation: Ghost, mainly a freelancer, but will work for someone...............if the price is right
Description:Ryan is a very intimidating woman. Her long black hair, sometimes streaked with a crimson color, hangs down to her lower back, often in braids and cornrows. She is slightly curvy, but she has a decent set of muscles that stand out grealy if she is lifting something, or even flexing. She stands at a decent height of 5'8, and weighs lightly at 125 lbs. Her jade and golden eyes are known to freeze her targets with their mysterious color and hard gaze. She is fairly kind, but can get edgy on a mission.

She tends to wear anything that will get her close to her targets, but when not on a mission, she often wears a black slim longsleeve that has a small but strong layer of Kevlar. Her pants, slightly loose and relaxed around her legs, are also reinforced with Kevlar. She wears a set of black motorcycle boots that often have one to two blades hidden craftily in them. The back of her longsleeve has a titanium steel plating going down it and across her hips. The titanium is light enough that it only weighs about 3-4 lbs, yet it flexes with her movement and can stop the thrust of most knives and swords. She wears gloves only when working out or fixing weapons and armor.

Ryan has very few visible markings. She has on her body over 50 scars, mainly on her arms, stomach, and back. She has one on the back of her neck that curls out slightly to the side, and is only visible if she pulls her hair into a ponytail. She has one tattoo of a small black snake, a death adder, curled around her left ankle. Her fingers are stained red, the blood of her targets has dyed her tan skin on her fingers a permenant crimson. Her fingers have given her the nickname 'The Red Death'.

Background: Ryan was born into a ghost family. Her father was a ghost, and so was her mother. At the age of 8, she could identify many weapons, and could strip down most pistols in less than 3 seconds. When she was 14, her mother and father were killed in the crossfire of Panzer boys and a wealthy employer's cyborgs. She was left an orphan, and cast out upon the streets from the orphanage after she stabbed a playmate to death by accident. She found a job at a low class dojo, cleaning the mats and polishing weaponry.

Ryan has a decent background in martial arts, she is effective with them, but she isn't a master. She has a great deal of history with weaponry and armor however. She is very smart, perfecting most guns and other weapons to the point where they are far more effective. She currently runs a discreet shop, fixing, building, and improving weaponry and armor. The shop is only known to most ghosts, past employeers, and the ones lucky enough to find it.

Ryan is currently on a bounty mission from an unknown employer. When on a mission, she is totally focused on her goal, and will not let anything stand in her way to achieve it. She has been known to kill civillians in pursuit of her target if they get in her way.

Equipment: She mainly uses guns, preferably Desert Eagles or a .50 caliber sniper. The bullets have a coating on them that drys in the air, making it impossible to identify the gun they were fired from. She tends to carry up to 15 spare cartridges for a single gun, often in her deep pant's pockets. She has a huge stockpile of guns and ammo back in her shop, and will lease guns and sell ammo at certain prices.

Besides guns, she is effective with a heat-edged katana. A small heat source at the hilt travels through the blade, giving the edges a slight glowing and making it a deadlier weapon. It can slice through small caliber pistols and weaker body armor easier than a normal sword. She is apt with throwing knives, but rarely uses them.

Her transportation is a modified Kawasakii Ninja. It can travel up to speeds of 300mph, and has a few surprises and tricks built into its frame. The body is sturdier, almost bullet proof, but much heavier than a normal bike. It changes colors, never repeating a color in the same day.

Name: Mera Novan AKA Mneme

Sex: Female

Age: 26

Occupations: Pop-head/Data thief

Description: All angles and planes, Mera's features are distinctive with high, prominent cheekbones, a kinked, once-broken nose and a long jaw. Her skin is pale, even the colour of the lips of her wide, expressive mouth is subdued. When on jobs and meeting clients, she covers her face and long, dirty-blonde hair with a cloth, revealing only a pair of grey eyes, the colour of overcast skies. Only a tiny metal strip behind her ear betrays her
Like her facial features, her body is long, stretched thinly over her frame with narrow, jutting hips and small breasts.
Despite her distinctively looks, when not on a job, her dress is smartly androgenous but non-descript.
On a job, however, she favours black, slim-fitting trousers and tops made from a material of her own design with electromagnetic properties that interfer with surveillance cameras. Her shoes and gloves too, are light and flexible with built-in suction cups able to allow her to scale walls and even ceilings for short periods. When impersonating employees or staff of the data firms she robs she may also don uniforms or business attire.

Background: Mera Novan had suffered from an average life, or at least that is all she can surmise. As soon as she approached her teens, it was clear that Mera had a talent for technology and an intelligence that far surpassed those around her. Unwilling to settle for mundanity, Mera moved, against the wishes of her parents, from her small hometown in England to San Fransisco when she was nineteen. There, she immersed herself in the underground scene emerging from the new advances in technology, fascinated by the concept of directly linking one's brain to a computer. She learnt to hack, to move without being seen. Recognised by her peers as a new and exploitable talent, they gave her the skills and materials needed for her to invent and modify technologies. They were then sold on, like those made by others in the underground movement, to illegal gangs and huge multi-national corporations alike.
Somewhere along the way, ever-eager to delve into new ways of exploring a world outside her own experiences, she started to use oneirone; a synthetic opiate nick-named 'pop'. Partially to fund her habit and partially to relieve herself of the boredom and fear of mundanity that constantly followed her, never far behind, Mera began to do data-retrieval jobs. They paid good money and they intellectually and physically challenged her in a way nothing else could. Her memories were the price- after the data stored in her brain was downloaded to her client, the memories they had displaced lay in tatters. Perhaps they were recoverable, perhaps not, but nothing had so far been developed that could be used to restore them.
Mera didn't care. Although large portions of the first two decades of her life and smaller sections of the last few years were nothing but gaping holes in the fabric of her memory, it was worth it.

Equipment: Mera's equipment is largely stealth-based. On a job, she carries a rope gun for scaling buildings, a hand-held device for interfacing with and hacking into computer equipment, infra-red and night-vision integrated eyepieces and various safe-breaking devices. She also has a small pistol and a thin-bladed knife but has never used them and does not intend to. To Mera, and to many of her fellow data thieves, resorting to using a weapon to retrieve data is the sign of an unskilled and inefficient thief.
Her most important piece of equipment is, however, her memon; the small pen-like device that is able to transfer data from digital storage directly to the hippocampus of her brain via the implantation on the side of her neck.

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Zappastach on Wed Dec 26, 2007 10:36 pm

Name: Pax Kovalenko

Sex: Male

Age:: 31

Occupation: Data Thief

Physical Description: In a world where vat surgeons sell beauty for cheap on every street corner, Pax's ugliness has become something of a novelty. His face is the flattened, squished, bumpy sort you only find on Russians, the kind of face that looks like it was carved out of cheap marble with a shovel. His smile is a monument to poor dentistry, a webwork of metal and temporary replacement teeth that have become all too permanent. His hair is a dark black, but is often dirty enough to qualify as brown; it's short, but grows out in strange, often contradictory directions. He wears glasses, which are kept remarkably clean, at least by Pax's standards. He sometimes dons a beard, but he always shaves before a job; he doesn't like how it tickles his throat when staring down at a terminal screen.

Pax is somewhere in the area of 6'4", 250 pounds. Years at a computer terminal have ensured that very little of that is made up of muscle, and it shows. Round and soft, you might say he looks a bit like Santa Claus after years of drug abuse and homelessness. Pax doesn't generally care about clothing, and so it's often as thrown-on-last-minute as it looks. Typically, though, you'll find him with a thin t-shirt underneath an ancient, but once stylish, dress shirt, always unbuttoned. He calls the style the Fat Guy's Secret to Sexiness. Generally he completes his wardrobe with a pair of well-worn black track-pants. As a rule, he never bothers with any sort of body armour or bullet-weave; with a wink, he'll tell you that it only slows him down.

Background: Pax is a Russian expatriate, but he's really too young to remember his time there. He likes to say that their last name and alcoholism were the only two things his family brought with them when they fled the country, shortly before the truncated revival of the USSR. Like most of the refugees, they were pathetically poor, barley surviving.

It was during this time that Pax’s sarcastic, borderline nihilist attitude would surface. He saw the suffering all around him, the suffering he was part of, and found it to be oddly amusing. Not in a cruel way, but in a “Hey, at least it can’t get any worse!” way. He became a bit of a fixture in the underground circuits of San Francisco, more for his aforementioned ugliness than his general good nature. He met people, got into things you just don’t mention in polite company, and had a lot of fun with it all. He liked hackers, was fascinated by them; they seemed to share his sense of humour.

He just sort of drifted into that sub-culture. Picked up tricks here and there, got some work done on his brain that made the world a little clearer, that sort of thing. The transition was slow, but inevitably he became a member of the hacker community. But there wasn’t much money in it; not the kind of money Pax had in mind, anyway. What little cash he had he blew turning his brain into a hard drive; he became a data thief, and he turned out to be damn good at it.

Equipment: Pax travels light. He keeps a fletchette pistol – a Needler – on his person at all times, just in case of emergencies. He’s no murderer; he only uses the Needler when he can’t talk his way out of a situation. He lacks the dexterity for finesse weapons, but he still holds on to a dagger. An old Soviet relic, or so the guy who sold it to him had said.

Pax doesn’t see the point of owning a vehicle in the super-urbanized world he lives in; traffic is worse than ever. He typically goes it on foot. If he has to go from city to city, he’ll fly.

NOTE: Pax is not an addict, but he is a recreational drug user.

Name: Father Manuel Vasquez
Sex: Male
Age: 40
Occupations: Street Priest

Description: In his prime, Manuel would have been a fairly typical Spaniard, but the trials of Manuel's life have taken an early toll, with his hair already having turned white, and his face somewhat wrinkled, making him look like he as at least in his 50's. Standing at 6'3", and weighing roughly 120 lb, very little of it fat, he still cuts an imposing figure, even without his various equipment. When he is not geared up, a very rare occurrence in public, he wears plain, undyed clothing, generally a simple shirt and trousers. When out preaching or working on a job, he is even more imposing, wearing bright white armour, with his weapons carried in plain sight, and a large, gold crucifix in the middle of his chest.

Background: Manuel was born in 2003 in a small village near Gibraltar, the youngest of 3 children. His life was fairly normal for one of his age until he was ten. That year, the Islamic Empire threatened invasion of Spain, and like many men from the village, his father joined the army to protect his family and his country. Like many others, he returned home in a pine box. The next year, during the second global frost, his mother passed away as well, leaving Manuel and his older sibling on their own.
They coped on their own for several months, having enough to eat and drink and a roof over their heads, but as time went on, life got harder. Manuel spent less and less time in school, helping keep the family afloat. In the early months of 2016, however, a turning point in his life came.
While out getting food, Manuel saw a travelling Catholic preacher on a street corner, yelling about the approaching Armageddon, and how all must repent or be doomed to hell. This grabbed he attention, and he stood enraptured for the rest of the sermon. He caught a good hiding for being late home from his eldest brother, but his imagination was captured by religion, and after leaving a crude note to his siblings explaining why he had left, ran away to Gibraltar to join the church.
Manuel was lucky enough to be taken in by a Catholic orphanage, where he received further education, and learned more about his religion. At the age of 18, he began the training to become a priest, and after spending his six years in training and being ordained, he began traveling the Iberian Peninsula, preaching his radical view of Catholicism.
As he travelled, Manuel came to further realise that his teaching was having little effect. While many people in small towns were confessing after hearing him, in the rich and prosperous cities the congregations were small, and it seemed to him that the people were not learning from him. And from news and hear-say, Spain was barely sinful at all compared to richer nations like the US. Knowing that his usual methods would meet with practically no success, in 2028 he applied to set up a mission in the America's, then disappeared with the money he was supplied.
With the money, Manuel went to the US and set himself up as a new style of street preacher, taking inspiration from some who had already begun using the method in America, including Gabriel of the Church of all Worlds. Setting himself up with weapons and armour, he went to bring the light to he heathens of the BAC.
As he redeemed the fallen, Manuel slowly began to see the futility of his actions. He could save one soul, purge one den of sin, and ten more would pop up. While he continued his Crusade for the first ten years without respite, in the last few years he has begun taking jobs to earn money for the church. While these began as only being the most morally pure employers, in the last couple of years the calibre of jobs has slowly fallen, with Manuel resorting to increasingly weak self-rationalisation as to why he should be doing that which he would have once opposed, attempting to convince himself he is still doing the Lords work.

Equipment: Manuel wears a suit of what looks like white full plate armour with no helmet, which is in fact made out of modern composites, and is fulling capable of deflecting many attacks. His main weapons are the Hammer of Righteousness and the Sword of God, a war-hammer and longsword he typically dual wields, as well as a .35 pistol he calls the Purger of Heresy. In extreme circumstances he brings the Flame of Redemption, a flamethrower.

Name:Unit #6
Sex:Male
Age:Unknown
Occupations:Cyborg

Description: (more than just tight leather pants and jacket please)
6'i with a solid build. He has short dark hair that is usually hidden under a mask. #6 had a quiet personality even before he sacrificed his soul for metal. Very little of his body is left unaltered. His eyes have multiple settings, His ears can pick up the sound of a heart beat through a cement wall, His skull is a metal case to protect the the computer system that is now his brain, Even his arms and legs have been rebuilt for speed and strength. #6 was one of the first humans to go full cyborg. He loves the way a blade cuts through flesh and so his weapons of choice are those of the ancient Ninja. He carries a Katana, and loaded into each of his wrists are Shuriken, and throwing knives. He dresses in Ninja like garb, and wears ornate black shoulder guards. Built into these guards are blowgun-esque guns, one fires poisoned darts, and the other tranquilizers.

Background: (at least 3 full paragraphs please.) I known its not really 3 paragraphs, Lol.
Before becoming a cyborg #6 served in a top secret special forces unit for the US government. After retirement he moved to Japan, joining a privately funded security group. It was at this time that he sacrificed his body and under the cyborg transformation. Now he serves in a private army, working for which ever corporation or government that will pay the most.
Currently he has been working in the BAC area, for some of its largest corporations. He has almost finished a large bust on a ring of DTs, that had stolen classified information. He took care of four out of the five known DTs, and is in the process of tracking down the last.

Equipment: (all equipment must be approved by the GM prior to play)A cyborg body, almost entirely. He still eats but that is about it. A katana, Shuriken, Throwing knives, and darts loaded into his shoulders.

(OOC: I hope this is all Ok Skall I will be watching for your reply with the Go for this character. )

Name: Jynx

Sex: Female

Age: 26

Occupations: ]-Ghost-[

Physical Description: Snow white and unblemished, the attractive features of a young woman have blossomed into an angelic portrait, where nature and the knife intertwine to create a subtly enhanced countenance that redefines most people’s concept of ‘beautiful’. Black tendrils of hair, often streaked with electric blue, create an alluring backdrop that frames her head, subconsciously guiding attention away from her deadly hands and onto the plush red lips that contort innocently as she plots someone’s demise.

Complimenting the intoxicating web of her visage, however, is a lithe and muscular frame which possesses curves that almost seem designed to make men sin and women rage, though in truth her form has been accentuated to appear seductive, rather than imposing. A wolf in sheep’s clothing, this deceptive damsel boasts a slew of concealed modifications, ranging from cybernetic vision to the lightweight plates of armour that snugly sit beneath the apparently skin-tight attire that she commonly employs. Removed from virtually every database in existence, there are no ‘definitive’ or unalterable markings marring her flesh, though her fingerprints have irreparably been scrambled into an unreadable mixture of swirls. This ensures that the anonymity of her benefactors remains intact, after all, who can truly chase a real ghost?

Background:

Originally designated as ‘Jane Striesberg’ and convicted for slaughtering homeless people at the age of sixteen, Jane developed a taste for murder younger than most and spent the next four years bouncing between one detention facility and the next until she found herself confined in a maximum security prison at the age of twenty. Over the next two years, Jane established herself as one of the ‘heavy hitters’ among the inmates because although she wasn’t particularly butch, standing at a mere 5’9 and weighing 120 lbs, she had an unparalleled vicious streak, that bordered on psychotic as she savagely battered anyone that thought they could boss her around.

It wasn’t until the age of twenty two, however, that Jane was offered a reprieve from the monotony of incarceration, as a group of scientists approached the warden and asked him to hand-pick his most trouble inmate for some ‘experimental procedures’. Knocked senseless by a fusillade of blows from the prisons ‘riot squad’, Jane volunteered for these tests without even realizing it and awoke to the agony of being dissected like some kind of animal some hours later. Initially the scientists weren’t very optimistic when the US government told them they wanted soldiers that could defend their borders from the threat of Japanese robots, because the implications of manipulating the human body were too horrible to contemplate.

When the first batch of ‘recruits’ came to them, the sheer amount of pain involved in augmenting living tissue with cybernetic implants proved too much for many of them and they simply perished, but when Jane arrived, they were impressed by her determination. No matter how long the test, no matter how taxing the procedure, she resiliently clung on, refusing to die by erecting sheer walls of hatred for her captors, much as a cornered dog becomes all the more ferocious once it realizes there is no where left to run.

Some speculated that this incredible resolve was fuelled by trauma she had experienced as a child, leading her to internalise emotions and turning her into an unrelenting sado-masochist in the process. Whatever the reasons though, Jane produced results and that’s all the top-brass really cared about anyway, not the loss of a subjects humanity, not the degradation of their mind, just the cold hard fact that they had an ace up their sleeve, should another war break out. Rigorously trained, in both espionage and combat, Jane’s identity was erased so that she could serve in a ‘black ops’ squad attached to the Department of Defence, who were tasked with dangerous missions all over the globe.

During one particular incursion though, the intelligence they had been supplied with was faulty and so the squad became overwhelmed by a superior force when they attempted to intercept a shipment of petroleum that had fallen into the hands of a terrorist cell. Unfortunately the data that Jane’s commander had provided her with hadn’t taken into account the fact that the terrorists would be in possession of several cyborg’s and so her five-man squad was pinned down and eventually obliterated in the ensuing crossfire.

Managing to survive the encounter, though receiving serious wounds in the process, Jane felt so betrayed by the US government that she ‘dropped off the grid’, leaving her former employers to believe that she too had perished in the brutal battle that killed her unit. Because no records ever existed of their ‘operations’, Jane was written off as nothing more than a ‘casualty’ in the war on terror, allowing her to re-invent herself in whatever way she choice in the years that followed. Although her military career was over, Jane found that the skills she had developed in the government’s service were highly sought after and so began hiring herself out to private corporations, using the call-sign Jynx.

Obtaining infamy in the international underworld for her efficiency and ruthlessness, Jynx remains a prized asset to this day, though it is anyone’s guess where the allegiances of this merciless mercenary truly lie.

Equipment: Very little about Jynx is really what it appears and so instead of lugging around the formidable arsenal that most ghosts employ, she decided to turn her body into a living weapon instead. Contained inside her right arm is a medium-ranged device that functions similar to a rocket launcher, though instead of these volatile explosives, her projectile of choice is a three foot long steel spike. Penetrating an enemy with this weapon becomes a non-issue, as internal gyros accelerate the spike to incredible speeds before firing, so that when it is finally unleashed it soars through the air at high-velocity.

Were someone unfortunate enough to fall within her proverbial ‘crosshairs’, it would quickly become apparent that this vicious vixens forte is actually melee combat, for with little more than a thought she can summon forth two thin blades from specially crafted ‘sheathes’ below her synthetic skin. As these cruel implements emerge, however, they are coated with a thin film of acid, providing them with considerably more ‘kick’ than their slender edges would suggest as they slice through reinforced steel like a scythe through stalks of corn.

The ‘coup-de-grace’ of her abilities though, is found in the extendable v4.0 Chameleon Stealth Cloak, known simply as v4 CSC to techies. These incredibly expensive items cover the users frame like a second-skin, rendering the wearer invisible to the normal spectrum of light as it refracts the particles into the surrounding area. Generating false signatures to confuse heat-seeking weaponry, this is perhaps the ultimate in stealth technology, which, coupled with the fact that not even the black market has purchasable units for sale, makes them an invaluable asset to any operative in the favour of a private government.
