Name: Andrea (Andy) McNeils

Age: 21

Gender:Female

Race: Human

Rank/position: quartermaster

Appearance: Andy is 5'4" with an athletic build. Her face is very feminine which she plays off as just having a young look, which the freckles that are scattered across her cheek bones. She wears her brown hair in a tight bun under her hat, hiding it’s long length and shiny waves. Her green eyes show her true feelings although she always has a no BS Façade. She wears black pants unlike most females due to the fact she lets almost no one know that she really is female due to the fact it is ‘unlucky’ to have females onboard a ship. Her shirt is a men’s white long sleeved tie up shirt, which she wears over a few layers of tighter shirts to hid her ‘curves.’ She always has her cutlass at her hip.

Weapons: Cutlass, Pistol, and daggers in her boot

Bio: Andy has been on the sea her whole life. Her mother died in child birth and her father was captain of numerous ships and always would sneak her aboard. She has held almost every job on a ship, always dressed as a male. When she was younger it was easy to hide her identity as a girl, she was silent and didn’t talk, she mostly worked at cleaning the ship, the moved to official deckhand after a short time. Due to the fact her father had her working at such a young age her work ethic is amazing. As she got older and matured, it turned harder and harder to hide that she was a female; so her father sent her to live with his sister. She taught her how to be a proper ‘lady.’ She was always in dresses and her hair was always pinned up. She hated it, she missed the sea, and her father. She lived with her aunt for six months, having to go through her own personal hell for six months. Her aunt was always trying to find someone to take her hand in marriage... Yeah she dreamed of marriage, but not to some banker, or land dwellers… She wanted to be able to live on the water, where she felt free. Finally her father came back to visit and she convinced him to let her go back to the sea life. And from then on she swore she would never leave the sea, it brought her closer to her father.

He taught her how to man a ship, and when he was working she was often at is left side, watching everything he did, trying to learn and take in everything. She loved her father more than anything in the world. When they docked she would see the women dressed up in their beautiful dresses and pinned up hair and she would laugh. She was glad she didn’t have to live that life, what fun was that, where was the excitement? She didn’t miss it, one thing she did miss was having her hair down, being able to feel the wind blow through it. It was a small price to pay for being able to live on the sea.

Her father passed away when she was 19 and she has continued to make a living by working on ships, doing whatever job she is able to get. The sea is her life and she couldn’t dream of being anywhere else.

Hope it's not too late to jump in :)

Name: Stont Riou

Age: 25

Gender: Male

Race: Gilloc

Rank/position: Boatswain

Appearance: Light blue scales cover Stont's body, which reaches a height of 5'5" (1.65 meters). Due to his scaly nature, he usually wears only light brown pants, most of which have been torn off slightly below the knee during his career as a pirate. Most Human and Elven clothes make him uncomfortable, and he only dresses up on formal occasions. Aside from his pants, Stont wears an unassuming belt with his cutlass hanging at his left side and his one shot pistol at his right.

Weapons: Cutlass, pistol

Bio: Stont grew up poor, and used to frequently swim by sailing ships as a child, dreaming of the day he could escape his poverty and make a name for himself. After spending time as a crewman aboard a merchant vessel in his early years on the seas, his ship was attacked by the Red Sail Corsairs and was among the only crew members, including the captain, to not drop to his knees and beg for mercy as soon as the pirates boarded. His bravery impressed the captain, and he was given an opportunity to prove his worth as a powder monkey on the Dark Lady.

Soon it became apparent that the current captain's leadership was less than ideal, and Stont threw all his support behind Peryer Mosvesa, who Stont continues to work for happily to this day as the Dark Lady's boatswain, where he oversees the work of all the lesser unit leaders aboard the ship.

Irish Wolf wrote:Alright, just want to make a few comments.

First, when you say longsword, do you mean the two-handed brute that was really named a longsword or so you mean an arming sword?

Second, could I get a long bio?

Third, just like every other Thrower, you know that skill with arms for your character will be sub-par.

Ahh, I am not familiar with sword names/appearances and all that.. I mean a sword that is long, thin, and may be handled with one hand.

I've gone back and edited the Bio for Ellrun, though I apologize for personal issues not allowing me to write anything brilliant...

Sub-par? May I ask that you elaborate?

Please say this is still open...

Name: Bakarr de Llyons

Age: 26

Gender: Male

Race: Gnole

Rank/position: First mate if its available again. Pathfinder when we make landfall.

Appearance: Bakarr is seven foot one of solid muscle, with huge shoulders and massively powerful legs. His fur is a light tan with darker patches that get smaller closer to his head. Yellow eyes peer out from behind heavy scarring, covering most of the left side of his face. Like all gnoles, he wears little in the way of clothing, usually striding around deck in a short kilt, held up with a careworn leather belt.

Weapons: A cutlass slung low on his right hip. A gigantic claymore (5'+) that spends most of its time above his bunk, only being worn when Bakarr knows he will be involved in heavy fighting, or feels like intimidating someone. Like most of his kind, Bakarr dislikes gunpowder. The smell sickens him, they're too loud, and there's no honour in killing so indiscriminately.

Bio: Bakarr's father was chief huntsman for the Akaulao people, and well respected amongst them for his skills. With their pack mentality, Bakarr could look forward to a life of relative comfort, inheriting his fathers position when he came of age. At the age of nine, Bakarrs father was murdered by Sekha, his second in command and one time rival. Sekha couldnt bring himself to kill the pup, instead mutilating his face, forever marking him outcast with the promise that if Bakarr ever returned, he would die.

With no choice, Bakarr fled, abandoning his clan name in the process. He lived the next few years as best he could, taking work wherever it was available, not caring what he did, just that it paid. Several years back, Bakarr took a job as a mercenary seaman on a merchant ship, and fell in love with the freedom of the sea in the process. He spent the next few years moving from port to port and ship to ship until he fell in with the current crew.

Bakarr has an intimidating presence, with his size, the fact he is naturally taciturn, and very quick to anger. However, he is intensely loyal to those he sees as his pack, and will never hesistate to throw himself into the fray to save his brothers in arms.

His lessons at hunting and tracking are still with him, and coupled with his innate ability to know where he is as long as his feet are on solid ground, means he functions as scout and pointman when on land. Some have said this ability resembles that which pathfinders and navigators possess, but Bakarr disagrees. His abilities arent under his control as a true navigators are, its more an instinctual, unconscious feeling.

No one truly knows much about Bakarr, and he isnt likely to share, either. When he isnt on duty, Bakarr is generally found sitting in the rigging watching the stars, or below decks, tinkering with jewellery and other trinkets.
You know the goal. You know the path. The only thing that can stop you now is complacency. Go take what's yours.

Re: Corsairs of the Red Sails OOC

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby The Lord of Hats on Mon Aug 17, 2009 1:36 pm

By sub-par, he basically means that if you get in combat with someone who isn't a thrower (or other caster, but I get the impression that others aren't quite as effort-intensive as Throwing) or an extra, you're going to lose. You might be slower on the draw, your footwork won't be as good, your ability to track multiple targets won't be as good...

You qualify at the low end of capable, but not on the level of competent.

This doesn't mean you suck; you're a PC. You can still gut random pirates if you want to. It doesn't make you completely incompetent, either. Rotendo's a mender, so combat isn't really the focus of his skillset (though he does enjoy it). He's still pretty good with a blade, helped along by the fact that he's a 7-foot tall hyena man. He'll still lose to someone who spends their spare time practicing combat rather than magic, and he refuses to use gunpowder at all.

Basically, set the limits for what your character can do lower.

Well qwerty0000, we already have a shipwright and a mender, so we'll go in those respects but feel free to create another other character you please.

Now for x-LxxLawliet-x. If you want a sword thats time period plus all that you described, try a rapier or small sword. As for your bio, just add in a few sentences about how he got to be working aboard the Dark Lady and it will be good.

OriginalSix, welcome aboard mate.

And lastly, thank you The Lord of Hates for that bit about sub-par and magic users verse fighters. Have a cookie
