Food and Traditions?

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Avey on Tue Aug 10, 2010 10:40 pm

Well I am a huge fan of food and a sucker for family traditions. So I am just curious, what are some of your favorite foods or family traditions or both? I personally love food, but my favoritse are sweets especially my moms sweet potato pie that she makes every Thanksgiving and Christmas. So how about you? :)

Majority of us here in my country are carnivores, so any meat that's fried, barbecued and roasted would be fine. We don't do much steak around here, unfortunately.

Steeeeeeeeeeeeak.
Unfortunately, one of the traditions of my mother's side of the family is to overcook said steak and then no one complains. Not in all my twenty-something years has someone complained about the blasted steak.
Holidays are always sad for my tummy.

@ Aveline
Yes. The EnglishPea salad is my favorite. Which requires no cooking. Irony is fun!

@Myrin : I love lasagna its like one of those rare things but I have never had it made from scratch. >.> lol ANd if I did it must have been horribad that I don't want to remember it! xD I loved Ham when I was allowed to it it and my mom wasn't making a big fuss about me eating it then she turned vegan on us! *rages* just kidding.

Here in my region it is tradition to eat wild meat like boar, moose and deer. I eat exotic meats like crocodile, snakes, kangaroo and austridge. The non-meaty things I eat are falafel and lintilsoup
Everybody! Unless you have been in a roleplay with me in the past and were loyal to it, do not PM or text me about joining your RP.

I do NOT do Pokemon, Yugioh, WoW or any such RPs.

Please be aware of this.

@Aniihya Really? Woah the most exotic meat I have ever tasted was lamb and I don't think that is exotic XD. I'm most curious about what crocodile and kangaroo taste like! o.o Where are you from Aniihya? I have tasted lintils before my mom has some obsession with them. xD

Matzo ball soup, chicken & dumplings, tuna casserole, BBQ food, and of course....good ol' spaghetti!

My mom is Jewish, but I don't "claim" anything officially. However, we do the whole traditional Passovers and stuff. But the food is just awesomely amazing!

I'm very old fashioned sometimes so I really like old traditions.

I would do absolutely anything for a caramel tart... date Justin Bieber, sit through Whale Rider a second time. You name it, I'll do it. It's so good.

As for family food mum seems to take reasonably normal meals and make them her own. Roast chicken, lasagna, that sort of thing. We don't really have any traditions, but we always have requests to take her trifle along to any birthday/christmas/event-where-you-eat-food as well as her 'dry spaghetti' which is like a variation of bolognaise with bacon and cheese to make it a different texture. Good stuff right there.

@Sko: Hell, BBQ is good! xD Especially the steak part. . . I should go down to Texas. :P My Mom makes the best potato salad I won't eat any potato salad that is not hers.

@Akita: What is Matzo Ball soup? My mom makes spaghetti so much its like "again?! AGAIN?" and I don't eat it. xD It is growing old. xD

@ImmortalSin: Justin Bieber. . .? We won't go there :P and What is a Whale Rider?

My grandma has this thing were she likes to go to some expensive restaurant were my mom and aunt and uncles spend a lot of money for mothers day. SMH and it seems as though she is never really satisfied so it is quite irritating sometimes.

Yes, let's not go there. Oh and Whale Rider was a movie I had recommended to me about 3 years ago. It's the first movie I've ever not been able to sit through. I'm not sure why, but to me it was pretty much terrible. Maybe it got better when she actually started riding the whale but I wasn't patient enough to invest all of my hopes and another hour in that theory.

Aw, see a lot of my friends and their family have a 'place' where they go to eat out. Not like McDonald's or anything of course, a nice restaurant or little cafe tucked away. I wish we did that. Because we don't have an excuse to eat fancy most of the time when we do we like to try a different place each time. It's sort of funny though, because whenever I look at what everyone has ordered it's the same food - steak for dad, seafood for mum - so in a way it defeats the point of 'trying new places'. I suppose as long as they're under the belief that it's something new it doesn't matter.

Typical Belgian dish: French fries (though they are originally invented in Belgium but some English prick called them French fries) with mayo.

My favorite dish: Pasta with chicken, bits of bacon and mushrooms in an creamy pesto sauce and BBQ Salmon with rice and veggies.
So tell me, what's it like living in a constant haze of stupidity?
