How much do you read?

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby roleplay on Thu Jul 10, 2008 2:42 pm

I'm just sort of curious about this. Can you list all the novels/novellas/whatevers you've read? Or if there are too many to recall, how about the number of authors whose fiction you've read?

Not counting stuff I was forced to read in school (mainly because I can't remember any of it), my reading has been limited to Terry Pratchett, Orson Scott Card, Mervyn Peake, Terry Goodkind, Robert Jordan, Douglas Adams, J.R.R. Tolkien, Dan Brown (I fell for the hype. Oh well), and I've also failed to finish books by Anne Rice and David and Leigh Eddings.

It's probably a pretty pathetic range of authors compared to some people, but it wasn't until a few years ago that I started reading as a hobby. I may have to stop by the book recommendations thread once I've finished the two I'm working on now.

I spend the better part of my time reading textbooks. Not exactly as satisfying as a novel, but, hey, whatever. As for what I've read in my life, couldn't list it. In the last two years I've only really read two things for reasons non-academic, those being "Flowers for Algernon" and "The Chrysalids." Now, I read "The Chrysalids" in school, but I totally got interested again for no good reason. And, funny thing is, I'm reading the school's copy because I "forgot" to return it.

Oops.

But at least I'm cool because I steal things, right?

Here ya go:

Almost all of the Discworld Series.
Everything by Douglas Adams.
The Harry Potter Series.
A large amount of Sci-Fi by various authors.
Some book that I can barely remember, It was very good, but I got at the library last year. It was Early 20th Century Fantasy.

Some other books that I didn't really like. Most were "For Teens".

I cannot give you an accurate list as in my 41 years walking this earth, I have read more books than I can remember starting when I was seven years old. I can honestly say even now I read an average of three or four books at once. One fiction/non-fiction, one work-related, one science and one usually historical.
The writer who cares more about words than about characters, action, setting, atmosphere is unlikely to create a vivid and continuous dream; he gets in his own way too much; in his poetic drunkenness, he can't tell the cart- and its cargo- from the horse.
