Most, if not all, products and buildings are made out of metals and powered by hexite. Coal is the second most used power source, this is the cheaper alternative but less reliable and duration. Anything made from wood is extremely rare since the Borderlands don't have easy access to lumber outside of their own island so it is reserved for the rich and powerful. Same goes for vegetation. Food for the sky cities entail mostly wheat based products, potatoes, greens, corn, onions, and carrots. Any other vegetable is considered rare and expensive especially fruits since trees are not a big presence in the sky cities. Bringing back any seeds from the Mainland is a big deal, bring back a baby fruit tree is a bigger deal. Everyone is a vegetarian because every animal has been mutated, unless you're into cannibalism?

Hexite comes in three forms inactive, active, and drained. When inactive it was a black crystal, when active it glows a bright teal color, and completely drained hexite become a bright red color. Hexite must be activated with another power source or hitting two hexite hard enough thus powering both. Hexite is such an advance power source because if not constantly being activated it will revert to inactivity, the duration of activation depends on the size of the hexite and the amount of power given to it. Hexite is already a extremely long lasting power source, this feature simply boosts its longevity. Hexite is extremely hot when activated and simply gets hotter in coronation with the amount of power used to activate it. It is so hot that when active it heats up the water molecules in its close proximity. This feature allows smaller devices to use this steam as a power source. Instead of having a massive hexite that melts away a device, a small hexite is constantly activated and the steam from it is used to power the device. There are devices that purely use hexite that those are more of a luxury and reserved for important figures. This heat is what gives the world this steampunk atmosphere. Hexite can be formed into refined hexite which is the strongest material known, this is a process in which hexite is crushed into dust and blended into melted iron and made into a type of steel. The reason why it is so strong is not because it is the toughest metal, it is because any force done to it activate the hexite grains which weakens the incoming impact. For instance this is made into armor and when a steel sword hits this armor the hexite activates and basically warps and weakens the sword in a type of heating and cooling process.

There are three forms of transportation gliders, cables, and sky ships. Gliders are winged contraptions worn like a backpack for partial flight. There are regular gliders that allow short distance travel (travel within the sky city) and hex gliders that allow long distance travel (travel between sky cities or on land). Hex gliders are powered by hexite to pump steam out the underbelly to give it lift whenever altitude gets too low. Cables are used by cable cars as well as people. You can buy a glider or hex pack which are backpacks powered by hexite. These backpacks allow the person to hook onto the cable and ride them. The hexite allows the user to adjust the speed or come to a complete stop on these city wide cables. Hex packs also allows you to recharge or use any hex powered device and if you get low on charge the pack can be recharged at a recharging station position everywhere in the city. The final form of transportation are sky ships which are basically flying ships that are powered by hexite or coal. They are used for mass transportation, trade, and city defense.

There are three types of weapons used nowadays steam guns, hex guns, and melee weapons. Steam guns use hex crystals to create a abundant amount of condensed steam to propel the bullet, this is weaker than regular gunpowder guns but once again this is a lost technology. Besides most people don't wear armor let alone can afford it. Hex guns use the same technique but it shoots hex bullets which are bullets with bottoms made of hexite. When the steam comes in contact with the bullet it activates the hexite thus propelling it a second time making it much faster than any gunpowder weapon since the hexite will remain active making a trail of steam. This greatly increase range and damage since the head of the bullet will pierce then the activated hexite will melt through whatever is underneath. The last form of weaponry is melee weapons which are self-explanatory but there are also hexite variants that allow the weapon to reach super hot temperatures (Like a light saber). Technically there is a fourth form of weapon, regular firearms, but this is a rare item to find in the Mainland and very few carry. Regular citizens are allowed to carry melee weapons and steam guns but they need a firearms permit, soldiers (Including Sky Rangers) are allowed to carry hex guns but once again this is the most expensive form of weaponry so everyone does not have a set.

As for armor, anyone can wear armor. Most citizens wear cloth, richer citizens and sky rangers wear leather, soldiers wear metal plates, super soldiers wear hex armor. Hex armor is like going up against a tank since bullets and melee weapons are useless. Soldiers wearing hex armor have only been defeated by Grimm, excessive force (Falling off the sky city), or overheating which is a serious problem if the battle extends too long (Keep in mind damage must be continuously applied for the hexite to remain active and overheat).

There are millions of other devices but if you want to incorporate any, simply design it so that it uses hexite or coal if it needs power and we are good. Keep in mind electricity is not a thing in the sense that there are no outlets you can just plug a device into, to power a device you must plug it into a recharging station. Everything has its own power source and is mobile, which means no televisions, computers, or anything that needs a socket to work these are all old tech that is lost to this society.

Hex Armor
Hex armor is super armory because it is the strongest form of protection as well as the lightest metal armor. Hex armor provides the wearer ventilation to keep the wearer cool. The gears, suspension, and mini thrusters allows a boost in speed, jumping, and strength. Not anyone can just wear hex armor since it is a powered suit that needs experience and training that only the most elite soldiers receive, unless you have the commodity and renown to receive private lessons. Hex armor is also custom fitted for the wearer making it almost impossible to find hex armor in your size, you have to get it custom made.

Air Ships & Hex Generators
Air ships are an expansive and very important form of transportation due to this they are solely used for combat, cargo, and massive transport. Combat air ships are used to fight off Grimm or sky pirates, cargo air ships are used to transport massive amounts of commodities and resources, and transport air ships are used to ferry people from cities and borderlands. Air ships receive its buoyancy from air sacs, the main source of lift is from a ship compartment known as the air vault along with air sacs encased in metal that line the ship throughout the ship to even out its lift. These sacs and the vault is filled with a specialized man-made red liquid called Aldine. Hexite line the casing to heat up aldine to convert it into its overwhelmingly less dense red gaseous form. The more aldine gas the higher the ship floats, the more liquid aldine the lower the ship sinks. Air ships must steadily increase or decrease its lift, quickly heating up or cooling the hexite will make the ship lift or sink faster. Aldine is a remarkable substance because a ship can achieve lift up to the upper limits of the troposphere but this requires hexite to reach ridiculous temperatures to get the aldine to reach the lowest density achievable. The problem with these two tactics is that it ruins the casing of the aldine forcing the ship to need repairs and new aldine air sacs. To make up for this if a pilot wishes to use these tactics on a regular basis they seek better aldine air sacs and air vaults to sustain the extreme temperatures but this is a expensive process. That is why there are three tiers to air ships: Military class, noble class, and citizen class. Military class air ships are made out of the most premium materials and powerful arsenal, noble class ships are made out of premium materials but lack the superior firepower since they are reserved for military ships, and citizen class air ships are made out of subpar materials and weaponry some are made out of spare parts. A skilled pilot with a advanced ship can pull off high maneuverability by deactivating air sacs in sections of the ship. As for weaponry, air ships only have hex variant weaponry since their weaponry most of the time must cross great distances. Since they use hex cannons and other hex weaponry, ship arsenal is extremely expensive making military and noble ships the only ones to afford it.

Hex generators are sphere-shaped with long cone-shaped hexite "Hex Rods" that are custom made to piece together. Together they power a city or ship. All the coned hexite are used together but some will become faulty or drained sooner than other pieces so they are replaced by simply removing the drained hexite and replacing it. The generator will continue to work regardless of missing sections but at a lower capacity. The core (Generator rooms) are encased in "Dead Hexite", hexite that is permanently inactive, since hexite is the only material able to sustain the heat hex generators can reach and keep the heat from escaping the room and possibly melting and setting aflame the ship or city. Hex generators are made out of the most premium hexite since it needs to be able to power massive ships and cities along with the devices and machinery on them. Hex generators in sky cities and air ships are quite similar, aside from size but sky cities have an addition mechanism used to keep it afloat. World Benders are the air sac version for sky cities, instead of having air sacs scattered all over the city, a massive magnetic mechanism makes up the entire generator room. World benders appear to be massive gears and metal slabs that are constantly shifting with dead hexite coating and protecting it from the hex generator's heat. World benders counters the planet's magnetic pull.

That being said keep in mind that hexite and aldine is a very expensive commodity that takes quite the barter to get your hands on. Also, the government of the four sky cities has monopoly on the two commodities with the use of military ships to escort their cargo. Everyone get their hex and aldine from the government. Everyone knows about hexite but aldine is a fairly new invention that is kept in secrecy that only the select few know about the origin and creation process of the substance.

Prosthetics
Prosthetics come in two styles; robotic and metallic. Robotic prosthetics are limbs comprised of metal and gears. These limbs are attached to the body with sensitive motion sensors that are designed to register certain muscle groups and reaction to them a certain way. For instance, a robotic arm tightening your shoulder (Trapezius) will cause the arm to curl towards the body. Metallic limbs are attached surgically because the limb is attached to the bone and the sensors are internal. The benefit of robotic arms is that they are much cheaper, easier to repair and replace. The disadvantage is that they need more maintenance, are slower, and clunkier than metallic limbs. Metallic limbs are faster, more precise, and more resilient. The disadvantage is that extreme use will result in overheating since metallic limbs are powered by hexite instead of gears and manually. Since it is boosted by hex it allows it to be superior in speed and precision, boosting the hex will increase the limb's capabilities as well as overheat it. The second disadvantage is that the hexite embedded into the limb need to replaced once drained, when drained the limb is rendered useless. Prosthetics can be customized to your liking and have additional features, for instance a secret compartment of extendable glider wings.
