I am that likes to find the things nobody notices; the genuine, valuable jewels people miss just because it's not in a high-end shop. I like the fantasy-futuristic genres. I like my futuristic as something not too far from where we are now. Think the final years of someone born in 2000s to the nearing or dawn of the next century. I'm not sure why I mentioned that. Just to say a little of myself, I guess.

I'm new to the site, obviously. But hello, I guess. I like to write and I've got an imagination. I want to improve, and I hope my time on the site is well spent. That's why I'm here.

Hi there Olos,

First off, welcome to RPG! We’re glad you stopped by, and hope it's the kind of place you’d be happy to stay awhile. I’m Kiku, one of the Mods and Scholars on the site (something I’ll explain a bit more about later).

But first, about you! Fantasy futuristic is a genre I don't have a ton of experience with, but I have seen RPs with settings like that pop up on the site from time to time, so I'm sure you'll be able to find or make something to your taste. There are generally users willing to give something new a shot also, so don't despair if there's nothing immediately relevant. Sometimes, it's just a matter of "if you build it, they will come," so to speak. Can I ask how long you've been RPing or what first got you into it? I'm interested in those types of stories, you see; there are a lot of ways people end up here, I've found. :)

Anyway, good luck, and don't feel like you have to figure everything out yourself. I'm tacking on some information below this message, and of course if you need anything else, please, feel free to ask. I'm here to help.

So, the rest of the stuff I have for you here is just really general information that I give out to everyone new. I’m hoping some of it will be useful, but in case it’s a little much or perhaps slightly confusing given the mechanics of the site, you should absolutely feel free to ask me additional questions. I’m here to help, and you should always feel comfortable asking any member of staff (those of us with the colored usernames) for assistance. Many of your fellow users are very helpful, too. Generally speaking, those of us with green names are mods, and we’re in charge of site maintenance, content regulation, and making sure things run as smoothly as possible. Dark blue names indicate that someone is a scholar, and if you have questions about writing or the minutiae of RP, character creation, or any of that awesome meat-and-potatoes stuff, those are the people to go to. The red names belong to our admins, the people in charge.

Anyway, in case you’re looking to jump right in, I advise you to look first at the Interest Checks and Roleplayers Wanted subforums. These are where you’ll find people looking to write, and if you’re interested in what they’re talking about, don’t hesitate to say so!

Please do take a quick look at our Rules; they are few, but important. If you have general questions, chances are good that someone’s asked already, and a lot of the answers can be found either in the Help section, or, sometimes, here in my Questions thread.

I realize that’s a lot of stuff, and this is really a huge site for what it does. I certainly remember being overwhelmed when I first arrived on the site, and there weren’t even as many features then as there are now. So please don’t think you have to figure it all out on your own if you don’t want to. If none of those links get you where you want to go, feel free to ask me right here in this thread, or by shooting me a PM (something you can only do when you have ~10 posts in the forum, by the way). Otherwise, exploring is a great way to learn, if that’s what you prefer.

I started RPing when I was a kid on a family-friendly, unofficial gaming forum for a Nintendo, hand-held game. I had joined to find more people to play with, because nobody in my hometown played the game. My first RP was an island survival type, and the other particapants were just as new to RPs as much as I was. We used first person speech at first, but as time went on, we slowly started using third person. My reason for participating in the first place was plain curiosity and the fact I love to imagine.
My grammar back then was terrible. It wasn't just terrible online, but in school as well. In fact, a former teacher of mine said she once wasn't sure how to correct me on my English. I asked her what she meant, and she told me that a sentence I submitted had two verbs and probably ten nouns. So my grammar was bad. I laughed.
So anyways, I spent like three or four years on this site doing nothing but RPing. I hardly ever played the actual game, and most of my time there was spent RPing and creating them. I fell in love with the concept of creating a world. Then I eventually got tired of it and left, but the urge to write and imagine worlds into 'existence' made me want to RP again. I tried going back on the site time and time again. However, I felt my time there was ultimately finished, so I searched for a new forum and came up with this site. I didn't join right away, but sort-of lurked, pondering if I should join or not for a long time.

So there's that, my life as a role-player in a nutshell. Maybe I got too descriptive or went all out on a simple question. Oh well. Also, I'm sorry that I didn't reply to your post right away. The notification system is new and strange to me. Oh yeah, and thanks for the information. I appreciate it.

Hey, it's no problem. A lot of the features of the site take some getting used to. As I might have mentioned, I initially felt pretty overwhelmed myself. This was the first RP site I ever joined, and so I just jumped into the deep end of the pool, so to speak. I probably should have posted in this section of the forums, actually; that might have helped a bit.

Anyway, I don't think you went into too much detail at all. I think a lot of people get into this hobby because of inherent creativity and wanting to find some way to express it. I think that these days if I didn't do it, I might be frustrated by the lack of an outlet this good.
