NORTHERN HEIGHTS ACADEMY RP: THE OOC THREAD

Welcome to Northern Heights Academy. Some of you are here because of your academic achievements, other due to your excellence in the field of athletics. Some of you have tremendous gifts in the arts while yet more of you have proven outstanding as leaders. Whatever the reason, you are here because you are considered to be some of the finest students in the nation. We are Northern Heights are dedicated to your education, your development, and your safety. When you finish here, you will be prepared for college and the world. Best of luck and make us proud.

Northern Heights Academy is a role-playing game based on a fictional private high school/prepatory academy in Northern California. Players will take the roles of NHA students (and faculty, if desired) in their daily lives of going to classes, dealing with the drama of teenage years, balancing romance and friendship, and anything else you can imagine. All students live on campus in divided dormitories, two girls or two boys to a room. Players can set up rooming situations with other players here in OOC or via IM.

There will be a number of scripted events that will bring the students together. As an in-game representation of the GM, I will control the figure of the school's Headmaster that will make appearances from time to time, just to help move the game along or control a few things. Also, unless your character is brand new to the school, he or she will know some of the other students already, so feel free to create mingled back stories between your character and some of the others -- with the other writer's consent and cooperation, of course!

1. This is a modern/realistic game. All characters are humans, no special powers or abilities.

2. Writers may apply for and play a maximum of two characters.

3. Romance and language are allowed. Use your discretion. If you aren't sure if something is appropriate, feel free to IM me before posting.

4. Please post often. If you are going to be unavailable for an extended period of time, please let us know via this OOC thread.

5. Try to maintain quality with your posts. No less than a few sentences, a couple of paragraphs are preferred. Spell check early and often.

Character Name: Jordan Nicole Fahle

Character Age/Classification: 17/Junior

Reason for attending NHA (Academics, Athletics, Arts, etc...): Jordan is a scholarship member of the soccer team and is currently on the watch list for several NCAA programs.

Jordan is a very casual person and reflects her athletic lifestyle in her choice of clothing. She is often found in jersey tops and running shorts, jeans and a sweatshirt if the weather is a bit colder. She is comfortable with her body image but rarely wears anything provocative save what little she wears during soccer practice of the sake of comfort.

Personality: Jordan's personality can best be described in one word -- intense. A born athlete, her focus on and off the soccer field is always centered toward achieving her goals. She is an extremely self-confident young woman when it comes to the game and has no problem taking the spotlight, often getting into passionate arguments with her teammates and coaches when things go badly in practice or in games. She can be a bit too fiery at times had difficult to approach. Outside of the game, Jordan tries to keep out of the drama. Her one weakness, of course, is romance. Her self-confidence goes out with the window when dealing with assertive boys, difficulty expressing herself and committing to relationships.

Background: Jordan's parents knew that Northern Heights was the perfect place for their daughter, not only to get a better education than anything the public schools could offer but also as a chance to really market herself to the major college programs and get a chance to play soccer at the next level. Moving to the school when she was fifteen, Jordan is entering her third year as a student at Northern Heights.

@ poison snowman: Couple of issues. First of all, you need to post something in his background, stating "nothing is known about jeff" is not acceptable. If you have some items from his past that you want kept secret from the group to be revealed later in the RP, that is fine. As the GM, however, I need to know what those are going to be ahead of time. Please add some history to the application and, if necessary, IM me the details that you are hoping to conceal for now.

Also, you mention that your character hates humans. I just want to make sure we are on the same page. This is a modern/realistic RP, meaning humans are all that will be played.

Character Name: David Weston Worthington (she's a girl---yes, I know it's weird)

Character Age/Classification: 12/freshman

Reason for attending NHA: Academics, namely math and English

Physical description/Picture: She's tall for her age, with large glasses and long brown hair, tied in a pow ponytail. Her skin is somewhat pale. She has dark blue eyes and a small nose that turns up at the end.

Personality: Somewhat shy, and rather random. She has limited social skills, although she is not as bad as some. She's friendly, she just isn't always sure how to act around people.

Background: David was homeschooled in first, second, and third grade before she was six years old. When she turned six, her parents enrolled her in fourth grade at an all-girls Catholic private school, where she made few friends. She completed assignments very quickly, being a fast learner, and spent her extra time reading books. When she began fifth grade, she was elevated to ninth grade math, which she was allowed to finish in a semester and move on to geometry. In sixth grade, when David was eight, she applied to go to a middle school for gifted students, which she got into. She passed through trigonometry in seventh grade, and went on to AP calculus in seventh. She has continued to take AP math courses since.

Additional information: She likes cats.

Character Name: born Alexander Philip MacIntyre, he got his name legally changed to Straxaen Praevidahn MacIntyre. He responds to any of those names, as well as Bill, Westley, Athena Boy, Doctor, Cheater, and Count Zetaphile, along with shortenings thereof. (not all of those were made up by him)

Reason for attending NHA: Arts all the way, man.

Physical description/Picture: He is of an average height, with curly red hair and sideburns. His skin is tan and covered in freckles. His eyes are bottle green (of course), and he wears purple rimless glasses.

Personality: He's a sort of go-with-the-flow type, albeit an artsy-fartsy one. He tends to get along with people by knowing when to shut up, and he dislikes confrontation and arguments.

Background: Nothing too interesting that will affect how he acts in the RP. His parents thought he ought to go to this school, so he came.

Additional information: He has five dogs: Mercy, Hallelujah, Jesus, Mother of God, and Praise the Lord.
(So I don't forget the breeds and genders of each dog: Mercy is a girl and a Siberian Husky, Hallelujah is a dalmatian/Cocker Spaniel mix and a male, Jesus is male (of course) and an Afghan hound, Mother of God is a Newfoundland and female, and Praise the Lord is a Pomeranian mix of some sort, and male.)

Personality: Haru is very lively and loves to be the life of the party. She's very outgoing and not afraid to speak her mind. She usually likes to talk and makes new friends but she can be very mean at times. She holds grudges and if you get on her bad side watch out.

Background: Haru grew up in Japan. She was an active anime and manga okatu. It wasn't until the age of 8 that she realized her talent. Although her family had to move for job reasons. They sent her to this school so she could continue and get better

Physical Description/Photograph:

Krystyn wears no piercing and sets her own personal fashion trends with neon and colorful shades.
She is slender with lean muscle, built for speed. Instead of being tall she is actually short, around 5 '5' and weighs around 111 lbs.

Personality: Shy and thoughtful she thinks before acting and tends not to socialize or speak much. She chooses her friends depending on their likes and personality, not their looks or popularity. A bit down-to-earth she does care about her clothes but not enough to show them off. She is more in kept and doesn't share her friend's secrets with anyone, she is loyal. When being picked on she ignores the bully and pushes the off, not getting violent unless needed.

Physical description/Picture:

built like a dancer the best words to describe Collette have to be light and willowy. With almost white blonde loosely curled hair that brushes just under her shoulder blades and large grey eyes set in very pale skin she looks more like a doll than a person, but make no mistake, she’s actually very graceful and strong.

Personality: courteous and passionate Collette will never back down from a challenge. An exceptionally hard worker she’s passionate about ballet and will practice until she can’t move her arms. Though at times she forgets to have fun and can be quite awkward around others she is really a kind and outgoing person beneath the quiet and focused exterior. Nothing makes her angrier than someone who underestimates or doesn’t take their dreams and talents seriously.

Background: Born to a wealthy French family she began training in the art of ballet at age two with renowned tutors and professionals alike at the request of her mother who seemed to disregard Collette’s own wishes. Due to her heritage she believes manners and proper etiquette are vital to success in life and can’t quite get a handle on how to “let loose”. She believes heavily in charity and never flaunts her wealth except when it comes to her dance equipment.

Additional information: Can speak fluent French and English and talks to herself in French when reading or foucsing. Bites her thumb nail when nervous.

@ DC: I've been thinking about both of those things, actually. You don't have to have a roommate. That person can either serve as an NPC or your character can have a single room if necessary, I just don't want every character living in a room alone.

In regard to the dogs, how about this idea: In order to facilitate the school's goals of having their students ready for college and the real world, seniors living in more apartment style housing that is separate from the main dormitory buildings for the underclassmen. They would be some community yardspace there as well as less strict living regulations. That would help him swing the dogs.

Physical description/Picture:

Personality: J.D. is a smooth operator. Able to talk himself in and out of trouble, he was born with the gift of a silver tongue. Energetic and able to fit in with just about any crowd, he is a generally well-liked individual around campus. He has developed a reputation very much as a casual dater, never much of one to settle down into a serious relationship and preferring to play the field instead. Despite his casual nature in his relationships, he is a good man to know when the chips are down and is the friend that normally comes through for people at two in the morning.

Background: Jonathan came from the other side of the country, his father the district attorney for Suffolk County (Boston). From a blue-blooded North eastern family with money and a history, he was born into the family line of politics before ever being given a choice. The plan was laid out for him -- finish school at Northern Heights, go to law school, work under his father for a few years, branch out on his own and carry the family tradition. He hasn't been given much of a choice to question how much he wants to follow in those footsteps, somewhat resenting his family's money and power on the East Coast and enjoying his time separated from all of it in California.

Additional information: Roommate of Alexander MacIntyre, the two a sort of odd couple that strangely seem to get along fairly well in their senior year.

His teachers are usually slightly weirded out when he says "I go by Alex," then they realize he's an art guy.

Character Age/Classification (Grade for student, Subject for teacher): 31/Athletic Director (Coaches soccer in fall, baseball and track in spring)

Reason for attending NHA (Academics, Athletics, Arts, etc...): N/A for faculty member, but athletics

Physical description/Picture:

Personality: Derrick is extremely well-liked around his athletes and the student body for the most part. Known as a very easy-going member of the faculty, he is someone on the staff that many students will go to with problems or issues long before consulting a counselor or anyone in the headmaster's office. His relative youth makes him much more approachable than many of the other faculty members, but his fellow teachers and staff members view him as a bit irresponsible at times when it comes to dealing with students. On the field of play, he is a tough, high-energy coach that can be hard on his athletes during practice and games, but his results are undeniable. He is the type of coach to critcize loudly during practice and praise quietly, but his end-of-year speeches for his teams are often drawn-out and emotional.

Background: Derrick grew up in rural Oklahoma with a love for two things in life -- girls and baseball. Finding that he was much better at one than the other, Derrick earned a scholarship to play baseball for Arizona State University, going on to a career successful enough to earn a draft position in the Kansas City Royals organization. He bounced around the minor leagues playing AA and AAA ball for a few years, making one appearance in the major leagues before a shoulder injury knocked him out of professional sports permanently.

He turned to coaching quickly after, working as an assistant at his alma mater at ASU for a two years before taking the job at Northern Heights, first as the head baseball coach and then, two years later, filling the role of Athletic Director for the program.

Additional Information: Derrick also teaches history to the lower-level students as a preparatory class for the upper-level studies they will face as juniors and seniors. He is normally referred to as Coach Alter rather than Mr. Alter, even by the students with no athletic ties to the school.

At first I was a little hesitant because of his age, but I think it's acceptable within the scope of this RP since we aren't looking to add a massive number of players to the game. Physical description/Picture:

Personality: For many Northern Heights athletics students, the school represents a chance to use their talents to better themselves. Not Mark though. He was breaking through into the Crystal Palace youth team with a chance of being fast-tracked into the first team when the school got in contact from across the Atlantic. His (forced) choosing of Northern Heights has convinced him he's some sort of saviour for the academy's football hopes, which has given him something of a big head. In fact, he's rather arrogant. His friends and family are hoping that the school will teach him humility as well as give him an education. His general cockiness leads him to try his chances casually when it comes to romance, a trait that is not appreciated by everyone. Just in case there wasn't enough to make him enemies at his school, he percieves himself as a working class hero and resents the wealthy background of many of his classmates. Behind Mark's wall of unpleasantness, there is a human being down there. But will he emerge?

Background: Mark grew up on a council estate in Croydon, South London. He wasn't much of a student by any means, except for when it came to PE. He was possibly his school's best footballer both primary and secondary. A striker, he created a goal record in the Surrey Schools Cup the year before Northern Heights got in contact. It was this goal record and its publication in a local newspaper that was spotted by a visiting Northern Heights alumnus that saw the school get in touch. At the same time, he was considering signing up to Crystal Palace FC full time. He wanted to be a player - his family wanted him to use his ability to get an education. None of the Astleys had ever had an education, but Mark's parents wanted better things for him. He initially resisted the idea of playing American soccer and wanted to leave school as soon as he could become a footballer. But his mum and dad were firm, and he was sent away.

Additional information: Despite hating most learning, Mark has a slight interest in history. In soccer, he plays upfront.
