A treasure map leading potentially to a luxurious future has fallen in the hands of one former Pirate, Morgan Vane, who'd retired from his pirating life at an early age. The sea still called to him, and perhaps this was the final push needed to get him back on deck. Now with a destination in mind, he starts looking around to assemble a crew for himself, and now that he's finally found a vessel, he can start. With a first mate at hand, he searches the local taverns, marketplace, follows word of mouth, and hunts down old contacts for a share of the treasure if they can keep his ship afloat. Which, ultimately, ends up including a whole cast of characters that join the crew for different reasons: money, adventure, love, escape from slavery or an arranged marriage, interest...and when they're finally on their way, what happens?

Morgan Vane stood with his hands buried deep in his coat pockets, quietly contemplating the sleek vessel before him. She was a beauty. Her lines were strong and sensible, yet the way she held herself calmly in the waters was very attractive. It was true what they said: a pirate's first love was his maiden ship, and this was his. The Frayed Knot. And the wonderful thing was...as of two days ago, he was her Captain.

But the not-so-wonderful thing was that the both of them were crew-less.

The corner of his lips tugged down as he mulled over the problem. Each day, the map in his breast pocket seemed to be getting heavier and heavier, and by now he was frustrated. He wanted to handpick his crew instead of publicizing the opportunity to drunk sailors who'd want their grubby hands on his treasure. So far, none of the taverns he frequented had offered someone useful, and he didn't know enough key people to trust word of mouth, either. So, the marketplace it was, today.

Turning on his heels, Morgan strode off in the general direction of the port town square after flipping a coin to the boy who kept an eye over his ship.

Harry waited in the Tavern as he took a swig of a glass of ale he had. He continuously eyed the customers around him. Every one had a story to tell... some had criminal stories, some had peaceful ones. However, it was generally the former rather than the latter, and those were the ones that paid for his lifestyle. He hauled in criminals who had rather dark and interesting repertoires. He wanted to make sure that their lists didn't get any longer. It was then that he caught one that he was particularly interested in taking down... a man named Daniel Payne. He was known for being a pirate of the wrong kind... the one who was interested in pillaging and murder. He stared at him through the top of his glass, keeping himself leaned back in his seat to hide his face and gaze.

Believe me friend... you're gonna have a shorter time of freedom in about 3 minutes.

Another mug fit into the callused folds of his hand as the bedraggled man at the bar itself raised the mead to his lips and took a long swig. The cool sensation of strong ale with just the hint of cinnamon racing into his stomach was enough to fuel the grin on the face of the washed up buyer. He didn't remember how the mug had gotten to him nor how any of the ones before it had seemed to mystically appear before his hand whenever he found himself in need of a drink. These days, such times were more oft then not and it was becoming a dangerously frequent occurrence to find sleep's sweet caress on the stained wood of a Mermaid's Kiss table or counter.

Some men searched for answers in the bottoms of their cups.

Byron's cup was never empty.

So it was that the hazy eyed former pirate gazed across the bar room without focusing his gaze on a single soul. His first estimate was a ridiculous sum...ludicrous to think the bar could hold so many.

Of course...double vision...or triple...it didn't really matter.

Among the men inside, not a single one bore any coat or other sign of the naval force.

A good day then.

Might be that the most dangerous pirates in the entire sea nestled here for a drink or other business...but as long as the blue coats kept their distance from the rough establishment, Byron ran no risk of discovery.

He doubted his Wanted poster was still hanging...but even so...

Always paid to be cautious.

Maxine let her black curls fall loosely on her shoulders as the wind tossed them around. It was quiet on the ship, nothing excited had happened in a long while. She'd heard of the many adventures had on these claer, vast waters and longed to experience them herself. She swung on the ropes and practing handling her cutlass as she waondered aimlessley around the beautiful ship. It wasn't beautiful to many, but to her, it was something special.

Starting Point of Mission:
Merchant Vessel Port; Harbor.

Destination:
Marketplace

Mission Objective(s):
Primary: Employment Search; Secondary: Culinary Research/Waste Time.
.
.
.
::Mission Start::

Opal orbs scoured the large sea vessels towering around him; each covered in people loading and unloading supplies. A lopsided smirk tugged at those thin, mocking lips as he watched almost the same site at each ship he passed. He was quickly reminded of ants; they all followed in busy lines working in the same steps repeatedly. Kel couldn't tell one from the other, however, the majority of the world looked the same in his eyes. People followed their rules, their silly morals of good and chivalry. Kel took a lot of pride when it came to being one with himself, that he was nothing like those ants wandering around him as he traveled the docks. Sadly, with close to empty pockets, he needed to somehow join one of these fascist societies to blend in and eventually escape to whatever was in store for him. He wasn't a man to believe in fate but of what his own hands could create.

Kel's normally fully erect posture seemed hunched for the time being as he slipped through nearby crowds. Slender digits were buried inside his pockets as to keep a low profile, though through the conformity circling him it was quite hard not to attract wanted or unwanted attention from passerby's and guards. Kel's features hid beneath a drawn hood, platinum locks strayed across his face; shadowing any distinguishing features that would give him away. Even though his face may of been hidden, the black shirt he wore was cleanly split down the middle to portray the sinewy toned torso. The pendant like crest tattoo across his chest was a dead give away to his identity but these lands were new to him and hopefully, so was his name. A thin cord at the backside of his belt held knuckled, lengthy blades tied loosely. Obviously not a man to be trifled needlessly with, but also not the ideal candidate to be hired on the spot either.

Opal orbs peeked beneath the tangled mass of hair that escaped beneath his hood once he found what could mistakenly be the Marketplace. Kel's sensitive ears started to ring as the never-ending shouting from the stands called out from every angle as many advertised their merchandise. The hooded figure pushed his way towards the food stands, taking in the local produce; it seemed fresh enough for his taste. His funds could only take him so far, a bite here and there but without a source of income or a place to sleep for the night, practicing the art of fine foods most likely would not happen anytime soon. A rogue assassin job would pay nicely.. maybe even sneaking aboard a merchant ship and sample their wares before fencing them.. both would bring in a some of profit but until he was settled, it wasn't something he could risk.

.
.
.
::Mission Summary::

Destination:
Reached without a hassle/No injuries taken.
Success.

Objectives:
Primary: Employment Search - After taking in consideration of this middle class society, the objective cannot be met by normal means. A look into unusual, abnormal odd jobs must be taken into consideration. However, this may prove to be quite difficult.
Failure.

Secondary: Culinary Research/Waste Time - The market place was as uniform as the rest of the city seemed, yet, well stocked with some of the most fresh foods. Obviously, the trade system, along with the many Merchant Vessels spotted earlier were successful in their endeavors. A suitable Trade colony to find an escape route, maybe even to the seas.
Culinary Research - Success.
Waste Time - Success.
To all of you optimists who think everything is possible; try slamming a revolving door.

Will you dance in the rain with me? You'll find me in tinfoil.

Morgan would soon find himself nearing the tavern where he'd rented a set of rooms for himself, having forgotten his money pouch there earlier. A quick run up the stairs soon solved that problem, however, and as he walked down the stairs to the bar again he pocketed his key and patted his pockets, realizing that he was out of snacks of his little parrot, Bonnet. Damnit. Looking around him, he decided to grab a bit to quench his thirst before heading for the marketplace to stock up on the feed.

"Ary," Morgan greeted the bartender, stepping up to rest one arm on the counter, the other pointing to the barrels of rum stacked in the corner. "Who do you get those from?"

Ary glanced behind him, a confused look on his face before answering slowly, "Samuel, up on Sloth Street in the marketplace. Why?" He asked suspiciously.

Morgan shrugged. "Just be needing some soon. A cup, if you please," he ordered, suddenly assuming an impatient air about him. As he waited for the man to comply, he turned to view the room with his ruby eyes, looking about in disgust. Honestly. Didn't these people have lives? Of course, he was one to talk...he'd lived in places like these. But Morgan conveniently forgot, of course.

Harry continued to eye the people that inhabited the tavern. As he did, he soon noticed two interesting people. One them seemed to scan the bar as intently as he was. The other one... he wasn't sure who it was, but he had cast a certain aura about him, like he was trying to avoid something. Harry's eyes narrowed as he looked around, getting back to his original bounty. He hadn't moved, but he knew he would soon. The only reason Harry hadn't done anything was because he didn't want to cause a commotion amongst the people. He knew what it was like to have a drink interrupted, and it was never a good moment.

Wait til he's outside... then I go.

Ivy was arguing with the local baker over two loaves of bread. The prices he was offering were absolutely ridiculous; she would not pay any more than she had to, quality or no quality. She had to eat the stuff, and by tomorrow she wouldn't care if there were foreign, expensive herbs sprinkled on the stuff or not. She just wanted some bread. Was that too hard to understand?

"No."

A frustrated sigh.

"Look here, girl. Ye wouldn't be askin' fer more o'this if ye didn't appre'shate what ye bought yestermorn'. It was fair," he argued, waving his arms expressively.

"That's because you tossed in that slab of cheese," she retorted. "You knew that bread wasn't worth what I paid for it. The cheese, though, was worth the milk."

The baker glowered at her for a few seconds before letting out a noisy breath. He shoved aside the two loaves of bread before them, the ones spiced with herbs and a variety of cheeses, and plopped two, plain loaves on top of the brown wrapping paper. "Just what we agreed on, then."

"For those two? No way." Ivy pocketed her coins, shaking her head, and turned to walk away. But of course, the Baker realized that he was losing a customer, and of course these were simple, plain loves, with none of the fancy stuff he'd been baiting her with earlier, so she slapped a third loaf on top and began wrapping them. "Here. Take it."

Ivy smiled, and withdrew her hand from her pocket, handing him the coins. She carefully picked up the loaves as he carefully counted, and walked away calmly. Not bad, considering he'd given her the ones made of finer flour. But still, it was a pathetic excuse of a bargain.

Tanya leaned against the tavern wall, looking for someone who, preferably, wasn't completely drunk. Tanya had been shoreside for a solid month and she was done. She just wanted to get back out to sea. Sure, there was plenty to do shore side, but it was all so tame. It was all the same. Some fool getting food poisoning or fell off of a ladder. It was all the same here. It would drive a woman to drinking. She reluctantly walked over to the barkeep and asked for a pint. I'm going to regret this come mornin'. Tanya thought to herself. She walked to an empty table and continued to look over those in the room.

Once his cup was filled to the brim, Morgan carefully selected an empty seat, away from the rowdiness brewing within the room, and slid into it. He slurped a bit of his rum, pleased, before setting it before him and scanning the room with his sharp eyes. At first glance, he was able to dismiss more than three quarters of the crowd based on posture and manner of speaking alone. None of them looked like they were fit to ride his boat, as buff as they were. Sighing a tad sadly, he slid his fingers around his mug and drew it closer, comfortingly. Propping his chin on his palm, he focused on a certain man that was intently watching another drinker. Following his gaze, the victim of the man's close scrutiny appeared to be unaware of his surroundings, intent on his boasting. Keen man, the watcher. Morgan noted it carefully.

His wandering gaze lead him to spot a familiar figure--except, it turned out, the only thing familiar about the man was the fact that he was scarred in all the right places that showed he was a pirate. Or had been, rather. Nothing obvious...just something that seemed a bit salty about him. He'd have to check him out sometimes soon. Preferably before either one of them set out to sail, of course.

Morgan raised his mug to his lips and took a hearty drink, careful not to let the liquid drip down his chin. That was simply disgusting. He delicately dabbed the corners of his mouth before belching slightly, covering his mouth with a hand. Sighing a bit, he looked down at his mug and rolled his eyes. Of course he had a budget and he still needed to hire his crew and buy the rest of his supplies...yet, he was squandering away precious coinage on wonderful drink and terrible accomodations. He was itching to bring out his map and once more trace the route to the treasure--he could almost smell the metal of the coins. Delicious.

So. He did.

Plucking it from his inner breast pocket, Morgan spread it carefully out on the table, and hunched over it protectively. He was seated in the corner, and the lights were dim; he was also perfectly aware of the risk he was taking. If anyone found out he had a priceless map on his hands, he could be robbed within the next hour...

...But the alcohol was running in his veins, and Morgan didn't give a damn.

Aha... found one. Tanya thought to her self as she eyed the man in the corner. Normally she would write it off. Especially if she'd had anymore alcohol. But the way he protected whatever it was he was lookin at told her it was valueable, even if only to him. Even if it is some love letter, Tanya thought to herself, laughing quietly.

Tanya got up and walked over to the man, stopping far enough away not to threaten his privacy. "Just to let you know, the way you're hunchin' over the pretty lil' piece o' paper there, one would think it might be worth something."

Skylar sat outside a crowded tavern on an old box. Her legs were crossed as she watched people walk around. Many of the people seemed drunk like they did everyday. She continued to scan the crowd to see if she could find her father. This was a normal routine for Skylar. She continued doing this until her eyes set themselves upon a man who seemed oddly familiar. He looked to be around the age that her father should be by now and something about him reminded her of her father although she was sure that this man was not him. Shrugging, she leaped off the box but didn't make it in time because the man had reached the tavern.

Skylar walked into the tavern although she knew that she shouldn't be in there. Practically all of the people were too drunk to notice. Her eyes scanned through the tons of men until she found the man, Morgan. Quietly she crept over to him. " 'Ello sir," She said pleasently. "I just had a question to ask ya," She said.

Morgan was trying to find a better, more efficient route to his ultimate destination, but came up with nothing. He had both elbows resting on either side of the paper, head held lightly in hands as his brow was furrowed, eyes staring down. He stiffened slightly as the woman approached; he was conscious of every body nearby, and was a bit peeved to find that this particular one wouldn't go away. He raised his head, face expressionless to stare at the woman that had addressed him.

"And your point is...?" He asked bluntly, fingers already working to roll up the paper. He hoped the woman hadn't glimpsed the big, fat 'X' marked in red. But, knowing his luck, she would have. Who knows, he might just have to kidnap her...or perhaps make her a part of his crew, to keep her secrecy? The thought spinning in his mind, he narrowed his eyes and studied her, leaning back in his seat with the scroll held comfortable in his left hand. He tapped the edge of the parchment against the side of the table and picked up his mug, raising it to his lips. She would probably do. Seemed healthy, capable, and sharp. Hm.

"'Ello, sir." A small, pleasant voice caught his attention, mainly because it was so close to his ear. He sat up straight, and set his drink on the table all in one movement before craning his neck to spot the girl nearby. Another one? What happened to his unpopularity? Was he losing his touch? He was supposed to be sulking.

"What is it?" He scowled. He really needed Bonnet here.

On the other hand, Ivy was strolling through the market, nibbling on a torn piece of her bread. The rest was stored away safely, someplace where she'd been staying, and she'd grabbed a few coins from her depleting amount to purchase a few essentials. A small bundle was held in one arm, the result of her latest endeavor, and she was now headed for one of the merchants she knew would give her a fair price for a particular blade she wanted. He mostly dealt with culinary knives, yet his daggers were a pretty piece of work.

She slowed down as she neared, and brushed non existing crumbs off her hands before stopping before the humble stall. "Kenneth!" She said loudly, rapping her knuckles on the wooden frame of his booth.

Tanya eyed the girl who looked like she was a tid too young for a tavern... but Tanya wasn't going to be the one to call her on it. Tanya herself was barely allowed into one. She turned back to the man.

"My point is, is it? If it is, I'll keep quiet, but I want in." Tanya stared at the man squarely in the eyes waiting for a response. From the way he was looking at her he might be considering it. Then again, he might just as well be contemplating how to get rid of her. She'd had a full pint and her judgement might have been a bit impaired. Tanya planted her fists on her sides stubbornly, having no plans to budge.

"It's a blueprint of a mansion belonging to a rich lord I'm gonna assassinate," he lied flatly, crossing his arms in front of his chest, eyes staring at the woman. "Still want in?"

He didn't mind that the girl was listening in. If she was smart, she'd run at the mention of an assassination; that would be one problem taken care of, anyways. But then again, if she was true to her feminine persuasion, she wouldn't give up easily. Damn.

Tanya just stood there and stared for a moment. Then she burst out laughing loudly. Luckily, the bustle of the bar covered it up mostly. When she calmed down Tanya straighten up and addressed the man with an almost straight face.

"You might need someone there to patch you up afterwards if things get messy." Tanya said, back to staring the man down. Not as effective as before as she was still trying to keep from laughing, but either way, she still wasn't moving.

"Are you offering?" He asked, brows raised. If she was, then he might be onto something.

Useful.

A moment later, realization hit him. "Who said I'd be injured?" His scowled deepened as she tried to suppress her laughter. "Insubordinate," he muttered under his breath. Wench. They were all the same.

Tanya grinned as he caught on. Smart one. Most men she knew would've taken a couple minutes at least to get it.
