Di Morte.

Even the name brings shivers down one's spine, a name that encourages and fosters the inner voice dwelling in everybody's head. Go....look at them...mock them for what they really are...look. See how ashamed they are? They hide behind masks...

Founded in 1959 by an Italian man, gifted with the ability of charm, capable of winning so many to his side, when he came to America and discovered the treasure trove of all the young children, confused and lost by their abilities. They had no idea why they were doing such things. Why they seemed to be able to walk through things. Why their bones never broke, no matter what they did to them. Why, in some more extreme cases, were they capable of flying and all their playmates weren't.

The Italian, who called himself the Ringmaster, began collecting them.

He forced them to wear masks, implanting an idea in their heads that their identities had to be kept secret. If word got out what their real names were, the police and the authorities would come and take them away, lock them up forever. They didn't want that.

Each mask was custom made for each child. Each mask held a special meaning to the child. It alluded to the child's ability, or the child's personality or just the child's own desire.

The Ringmaster began teaching them how to perform. Those with the flashiest abilities would be given acts, while those with more mild, modest abilities were put on exhibit in the traveling zoo that went with the circus.

Soon, Di Morte became infamous.

The original Ringmaster treated them well. He considered himself one of them, because of his gift. All his performers, and even those in the zoo, were kept clean and well-fed, content with their lot.

But then, he died.

His son took over. He shed his old name, taking on the name of his father. The Ringmaster.

There are still some that remember the kindness of the previous Ringmaster, but he no longer lives. The new Ringmaster demands much. There are rumors surrounding the reasons why. Perhaps it's because he's not gifted and he's just jealous of his father's collection. But there are other rumors as well...rumors of a darker secret plaguing the Ringmaster's mind. But who dares find out?

In his presence, all are required to don their masks, which therefore means the performers and the exhibits must carry said mask with them at all times.

P L O T

Strange things have started to occur. Strange figures, passing along secret messages under the cover of darkness, hidden by the shadows, pressed against the walls of the tents.

But Di Morte is always on the move. One week in one place, one week in another, a third week for just a little bit of rest before they go back on the road. Life is demanding, but it is always worth it.

Happiness never lasts.

Amongst the members of Di Morte, there will always be insecurities. Always will there be secrets nobody else wants anybody else to know. Romances blossom. Friendships are formed. Hatred digs its dark claws deep into people's souls, corrupting the bond that could have been formed. All in a day's work at Di Morte.

Yet, behind the scenes, behind the flashy masks and the mysterious smiles, in the darkness of night, there is doubt. Performers are growing worried about the Ringmaster's sanity. How long before he snaps? How long before he begins to kill the performers his father spent so long protecting from the outside world?

Will you try to help the Ringmaster with the knowledge that even though he is not the best of people, he is the only person between you and the crowd who hate you for what you have? Or will you help finish him off, even though you know that your own life will soon follow?

Which side are you on?

R U L E S

Please be aware that you will be held accountable for abiding by these rules and regulations:

[uno] No one liners. The least I will take for any post is five well-written sentences (are you sensing a pattern?) And...no. "Blah. Blah. Blah." Said John. counts as one sentence. Not four. I understand writer's block, we all get it once in a while, but let's not make it a habit.

[due] You have 48 hours to get reserved characters in. As well, a reservation does not necessarily mean an acceptance, so please make your character sheet look good!

[tre] Grammar and spelling are expected to be nearly spotless. I understand typos and the such, but again, let's keep them on the down low. If you're not sure your paragraph is good, then put it into Word and see if the red/green squiggly lines come up.

[quattro] akai-pyon's word is law. However, I do accept plot twist ideas.

[cinque] Respect is absolutely necessary. Fighting with another role player will take place over PM. Not in the world of Di Morte.

[sei] Try to post daily. However, keep the posting limit to five an hour (I'm sensing a pattern of fives....). I know it might not seem like a lot, but five an hour is actually quite rapid posting. So keep an eye out and control the urge to post if you are nearing the mark.

[sette] Keep it PG-16. Romance is fine. Violence is fine. Just....not too much.

[otto] Make sure you read all the posts before posting. This way, you won't have to go back and change anything.

[nove] PM akai-pyon with any questions!

[dieci] Follow Gateway's rules!

[undici] This one should go without saying - HAVE FUN~!!

Scarlett

Scarlett ignored Memphis' fingers gently brushing her hair back to get a better view at Abra, his soft fingertips barley touching her neck. It was better to not act on this action in public. She had always had a thing for all the men at Di Morte besides Fallen; Memphis was not an exception. In fact, her mind often wandered to what his tattooed body looked without clothes, she could just envision every flat muscled plane of his warm body inked to perfection. Scarlett always loved men who had body art, most of the men she used at "customers" were tattooed, it just made everything that much more fun.

Everyone's comments of swimming swirled around her quickly just like the smell of delicious food. Quickly, she piled her plate with more things chocolate, from muffins to pancakes, and then the few bars of Hershey's chocolate that were at the end of the line. In the other small plate on her tray she added some scrambled eggs, fruit, and a small piece of toast for Abra to enjoy. His diet had always been much more balanced that hers, but eating fruit and vegetables made her nauseous.

"Alright, so swimming it is, meet by the back gate, south side facing the woods." A devious smile flickered over her face, highlighting her desirable features in a stunning way, "One of the local boys told me about a lake a mile back." She turned her eyes to Memphis giving him a flirtatious glance and "accidentally" using some of her compulsion powers to spark a slightly "naughtily inappropriate" feeling in him. Sliding into the seat next to him and setting her unhealthy plate down in front of her. "Good morning Memphis." Her light voice was sweet but teasing at the same time.

Abra had always loved Memphis, for some reason, he was the only person he enjoyed besides herself. She felt the tiny creature climb to the very edge of her shoulder. His large eyes looked at Memphis, then down to the plate, where he jumped from her and sat on the tray, pulling a large chunk of egg towards him, his eyes still locked lovingly on Memphis.

Scar' knew how to work the moment, and twisted her body to face the inked man next to her, slightly, but enough for him to get a fantastic view of her God given curves.

Raven

Raven grinned at Memphis, his offer of having a contest for the cannon balls made her more than happy as well as his use of her nickname. She beamed and gave him a short nod in thanks, her mouth too full with food to actually say much of anything. They day would be fun today, the concept of going on a quick flight if the ringmaster agreed to it as well as going for a swim and playing a game, everything would prove to be more than amusing. Not to mention it was one of those rare days that Raven wouldn't be stared at, called a freak with disbelieving eyes. It would be nice really, the words and gawking stares sometimes got her just a bit upset but she usually never really let them get much into her head. She finished off her plate quickly, walking up and putting the disposable plate in the trash can, grabbing three snack bars for later as well as two chocolate bars. She went back to the table and plopped herself down, bringing her wings in a bit with an uncomfortable look on her face so they wouldn't hit or brush up against anyone.

"So Ultear is gone to offer the Ringmaster some scotch again?" She asked, her smile faltering just a bit. She knew Ultear had feelings for the Ringmaster but she could never really shake the feeling of unease she had when she was around him. She thought he viewed them as actors in a show that was all his own, not to mention he never really smiled, which was, to Raven, something to fear in someone. Raven really did like Ultear though and she didn't want her to get hurt from the Ringmaster just because he didn't fancy her. She sighed and shook her head to get rid of the unwanted thoughts; he wasn't exactly a bad man. His father was the only reason her life was as it was today and she would never forget that, she was internally grateful.

"But anyways, I'm gonna go get ready for swimming. Last one there is a rotten egg," She grinned and stood up carefully, careful to step out and wait until she was out of the way to extend her wings once more with a content smile. "No, lets change that, last one to get to get to the gate is the first one to jump into the lake. We always do need a tester to see if there are leeches in there or to see how cold it is," She said with a quick smile before she darted outside of the tent and ran to her room, a stupid smile plastered on her face. She entered her tent with a surprising speed, trying to take her shirt and bra off as quickly as possible without tearing it with her wings. She took the rest off before going to fetch her bathing suit, something she had been lucky to find. It did up in the back of the neck and then had a small string that tied up slightly higher than normal ones in the back, making it perfect so it wouldn't interfere with her wings. She put it on carefully and then left the tent, gleefully giggling.

She looked around to make sure no one was there and then smiled; it wasn't exactly cheating if she had wings. She was allowed to use them after all. She took a small running start and then beat both of her wings in a perfect sync before jumping off of the ground and beating her wings twice more, getting her a good ten feet above the ground as she quickly glided herself to the gate, beating her wings once in a while to make sure she didn't too close to the ground. It proved to be a lot quicker than running and a lot easier too. She smiled to herself as she paused, letting her legs swing towards the ground and tuck her wings in just a bit before landing on the ground once more, her bare feet landing in the rather soft grass. She smiled happily and finished her way to the gate to lean on it, trying to make herself look like she had actually been there longer than it would seem.

Vincent

Vincent chuckled lightly as he sat at the table with the others, just in time to see Raven leave the tent. His plate was rather...empty....having been wrapped up in visualizing new drawings for the audiences in near futures. It only held a several modest slices of bacon. He took a piece in his mouth as he talked around it.

"Eager beaver--err...bird..." He commented as he replaced his glasses. He didn't particularly need them but they helped to define lines better. "Where are the others?" He asked, clearly having not been paying attention while getting breakfast.

Ringmaster

"Or would you rather I'd entertain you in the privacy of your own room?" Ultear licked her lips and was soon falling into her own illusion. What if he said yes? How she would laugh in all of their faces...

The Ringmaster looked down at Ultear, his eyes cold. He was not that type of man....not that type at all. A man who whimsically wasted time with the first good-looking woman that threw herself at him? No. He wouldn't fall for that. He resisted the urge to slap her, to tell her to get out of the way, because he knew a slap of that force would leave a mark.

He couldn't have damaged goods, now could he? He sighed softly, reaching up, and gripping her chin in his hand. But it was no gentle touch. It was fierce, harsh. And as sober as he was, he was well aware of everything he was doing. He leaned in, almost as though he were about to kiss her, before he spoke. "Do not speak like that to me," he growled, before pushing her away with all his strength.

He stepped back down the hall, his back ramrod straight and hand stroking the handle of his whip.

Andrei

The puppeteer was enjoying their easy conversation. It somewhat surprised him that they were all so eager and so easily talking about the Ringmaster. Gone were the days that they stood by in circles, huddled and whispering softly for fear that their words would fall on ears and punishment would rain down swift and hard.

Over the years, it seemed as though their Ringmaster had gained some sense. He understood the prize of a perfect item, and the price of a flawed one. Despite how Andrei disliked the idea of being treated as an item, if it helped protect them all, then he was fine with it. For now.

Andrei started as Raven challenged them all to a race to the gates. She took off. "What a cheater!" Andrei exclaimed, before he glanced over at Vincent. "Come on! We can't lose!"

He grabbed the other's hand, tugging him towards the door, unaware that Vincent had literally just sat down and started eating.

Vincent

Vincent exclaimed in shock, nearly choking on a slice of bacon as he was dragged to the water. "It's not going to just get up and walk away you know!" He called to the puppeteer as he kept a death grip on his art pad and pen. He had to sprint to keep himself from being dragged on the ground. He started laughing as the grass tickled his feet pleasantly while sticks and other hard objects provided a pleasant contrast.

Ultear

The Ringmaster looked down at Ultear, but Ultear was so far gone in an illusion, she was hitting marriage.

Their kids, twin sons with messy black hair, were playing in their large backyard. Their eyes were a light brown and they were playing tag, what Ultear wanted to do when she was a kid. Their grass was greener than their money, and their son's laughter echoed everywhere. Not to forget the neighbors, the smiling, loving neighbors; all of them Ultear's friends. She was completely surrounded with people who loved her, including her husband. Ultear could feel a tear coming from her left eye, her illusions were heaven. To have such a large amount of people love her was too much for her emotional structure.

Her sunny world was shattered when she was hoisted up by the chin, everything became gray and ugly, the real world. Ultear soon felt the crushing grip around her jawbone and she cringed in pain, what was happening?

"Do not speak like that to me," Ultear only caught a glimpse of the Ringmasters dark eyes before she was thrown away. She landed on her back and was overcome with pain. She could only see white and was immobilized, wanting to speak, to scream, but the pain paralyzed her. The bottle broke and Ultear felt the shards dig deep in her back. And there was another pain at the back of her head... did she hit something? Ultear tried to curl her toes but she couldn't. Almost slipping off into unconsciousness, Ultear recalled the time when she started to like the Ringmaster.

Ultear was enjoying a busy day at the fair and one of the old shops that were allowed outside was selling elephant ears. To enjoy a sweet snack, Ultear happily brought one from Victor, who knew her well. He gave her a fresh one, covered in the white drug, and without thinking, Ultear bit down. She dropped the ear as soon as she felt the burning sensation on her tongue. Before Ultear could properly pout over her dropped sweet, she saw a gloved hand holding a cup of ice. She looked up and saw the Ringmaster standing above her, face hidden behind his white mask. She took the cup and was going to thank him, but he was already walking away.

Ultear jolted up from her illusion, immediately regretting it. Her head was thumping and she knew she was bleeding all over her back. Ultear wiped a tear from her eye and slowly got up. She limped towards a familiar cage, Lluvia. She was the exhibitor that brought in extra money, the doctor. She was able to heal just about anything besides diseases. Lluvia taxed the exhibitors who wanted a cut mended or wanted to be healed of something more serious, like a broken bone. The tax varied, of course.

"Lluvia, I have a story to show you. One of your favorites...Macbeth." Ultear murmured weakly. She was leaning on the door and fighting to stay conscious. Like most of the circus, Lluvia loved to watch her favorite stories come to life before her. Which is why, Ultear would always get an untaxed healing.

Memphis

Memphis was only half-listening to the conversation at the table. Instead, he was busying himself with his bountiful plate, cluttered together in a heaping mess. He'd always been a fast eater, so his plate of bacon, eggs and pancakes was nearly empty. From his peripherals, he spotted the small creature nibbling on its' piece of toast—and he smiled, he couldn't help it. The tall man had a soft spot for cute things; people included. Finally, with a soft sigh of content, he pushed his plate forward and hooked his arm around the back of his chair. Everyone else seemed to be finishing off their meal—except for Vincent, who seemed lost in space—so, he tried to contain the excitement fluttering in his stomach. Even if he didn't admit it, he couldn't wait to feel the cool water against his skin. He was sure that everyone else felt the same, except for Gossamer. Could she even touch the water? He wasn't entirely sure. He made a note to bring his small acoustic guitar, to serenade her with a song.

He bowed his head slightly when Raven commented about Ultear visiting the Ringmaster again, and shrugged his shoulders. He'd be lying if he said he didn't worry about her. The Ringmaster was the type of cold, indifferent guy that would squeeze the hearts out of women and men alike, leave them without anything left. As long as they were presentable, their petty feelings didn't matter. The only thing that mattered to the Ringmaster was drowning in his scotch, that much he understood. He shivered at the mention of leeches, and pulled a wry expression. “H-Hey, cheater!” Memphis called after her, rather jovially. He made no move to leave, not just yet.

“Deal,” Memphis rumbled, nodding his head in agreement. He toyed with his fork, flipping it between his knuckles and balancing it on his index fingers. Just to distract his wandering eyes from everyone's' faces, from their bodies; it was enough to drive him mad. And now, they were heading to a beautiful river where they'd be half-naked, or half-dressed, however you want to look at it. Suddenly, Memphis locked eyes with Scarlett and he found himself leaning precariously forward, nearly falling off his chair. Something roused in the pit of his stomach, and made his skin crawl. Not the kind of feeling that was entirely unwelcome, but definitely inappropriate. He coughed, clearing his throat behind his shaky fist, as Scarlett plopped down next to him. “G'morning, Scarls,” He managed to greet, desperately trying to keep his deep voice level. Her ability was unlike anyone elses, able to bend and break the strongest men with the littlest of pushes. Sometimes, he wondered why she hadn't attempted it on the Ringmaster. Would he bend and break, beg for release? The mental image left him dazzled, he had to shake his head to clear his obtrusive thoughts.

With one glance at Scarlett's unhealthy place, Memphis grinned and leaned forward, brushing his thumb across Abra's soft head. For some reason, animals were more dept to accept his haunting presence. It might have been his soft touches and soothing whispers, he wasn't completely sure. A small laugh jangled from his throat as Abra hopped from Scarlett's shoulder onto the plate, pulling a piece of egg in its' small pink hands. “Adorable, aren't cha'?” He cooed quietly, craning his head until Scarlett twisted, and he was facing her buxom... well, you know. If it were noticeable, Memphis flushed darkly and recoiled from her, a sheepish smile playing on his features. He excused himself from the table, placing a hand on Scarlett's shoulder before whispering something in her ear. Show me a garden that's burstin' into life. Memphis was a musical man, always whispering or humming or singing different tunes—and he related lyrics to his life, whispered them seductively. Most of the time it worked. Most of the time.

And then Andrei snatched up Vincent's hand, following Raven out of the tent. Memphis opened his mouth to protest, before cupping a hand to the side of his mouth. “Jokes' on you, I swim in the nude!” He called after them, throwing Scarlett a sly wink before hurrying away. He certainly wouldn't be test-swimming the mysterious river, leeches terrified him. Because he couldn't create wings from his back like his companion—unless they were made from bones, which would have been extremely painful and useless—, he ran all the way to the twisting gates. He arrived shortly after, spying Raven leaning against the rusty rails as if she'd been there the entire time. He was trying to catch his breath, leaning heavily against the spirals and heaving large gulps of air into his burning lungs. Some said he didn't have much time to live, that his life span was shorter than the others. Some said that he was weak, growing more and more fabled each time he performed. Wise words from the damned Ringmaster. Stupid.

Scarlett

Scarlett watched Memphis squirm under her slight spell. It had always invigorated her to see boys fall into her trap, plus it felt good to know they wanted her, whether or not she would go through with her intentions was strictly up to her though. Abra leaned into Memphis' touch and cooed back at him while continuing to stuff his face with eggs and fruit.

A moment later Scar felt a shoulder on her hand, and heard Memphis' thick voice whisper into her ear. Show me a garden that's burstin' into life. Without turning her head she let her crimson lips whisper something back, "show me yours first." Scarlett stood up and picked Arba up, and turned on her heels. She had already planned on going swimming and had set out her swim suit just for the occasion. It only took her a moment to get back to her room where she quickly stripped off her clothes and slid on her bikini and then pulled on a cover up.

The bright white short dress she slid on tied under her bust and flowed out to her upper thigh. Normally wearing white around water was never a good idea, but Scarlett embraced the sheer fabric when wet. Abra climbed into his cage, knowing his master had intentions of going out. As she ran out of the room she slipped on a pair of rope sandals before prancing out of the room to where the group was meeting up.

In the distance she saw Raven and Memphis, and skipped to their sides, the white sun dress blowing slightly in the warm wind. Scarlett already knew what everyone was thinking, Who is going to be the one to test the water?

"Well," she licked her lower lip, "I guess I'm not the last one here." Her eyes flickered over Memphis, her spell still having the potential to draw him nearer.

Ringmaster

For once....a flash of regret flashed through the Ringmaster's eyes. He growled quietly under his breath, berating himself as he looked up at the sky. Father.... he thought briefly, before shaking his head, feeling a sudden cold seep through his clothes and into his bones. He would not think about his father. His father was dead. The old man had done nothing good but start up this circus.

The Ringmaster reached up, pulling the satin ribbon out of his hair and letting the breeze run its fingers through his dark locks. He glanced towards the entrance to the field, watching as the exhibits and the performers gathered, cheerful, their laughter reaching his ears. He clenched his hands into a fist, gritting his teeth, before turning sharply and heading deeper into the field.

Where he would not be bothered by anybody.

Yet....

It was an odd, heavy emotion that settled in his body. He shook it off, letting none of it show on his face.

Maybe you want company.... A soft voice whispered in his head - drawn up from his imagination of course.

Andrei

Andrei grinned back at Vincent, as the gatepost came into view. He frowned - was he among the last to get here? Ah well. He dropped his hold on Vincent's wrist, running forward and tagging the gatepost. "Hah! I got here before Vincent!" he said triumphantly. "Vince has to jump in the water to test it for leeches, right?"

He grinned at the others, before blinking. "Oh crap! I forgot my swim suit!" But then he shrugged. "Eh, nobody cares if I just wear my boxers, right?" he laughed. Of course they wouldn't care. He was positive some would love it.

Raven

Raven watched Memphis run up in her direction but then grasp onto the spiralling pattern of the fence. She watched him gasp for air; his chest heaving. She worried a little, wondering if he would be okay. She didn't know why but Memphis was one to get out of breath a little too easily and for the longest time she just associated it with asthma but after knowing him for five years, she now knew it was something else. She overheard the Ringmaster talking to him once, something about his powers. Apparently after each time he used his powers his life would diminish, something that worried Raven greatly. She really liked Memphis, she thought he was cool and a lot of fun to have around and she really didn't want him to leave them before he actually had to. That's why every time she would see him using his powers she would wince, it scared her.

Then again, Raven had never really been one to understand death. She didn't view it right, not really understanding the word. She shook her head, ridding the thoughts from her head. "Looks like you don't have to test for leeches," She joked with him, shooting a wink his way. She assumed the thought would relieve him, something she hoped it would. Her eyes travelled to Scarlett who seemed to just gracefully skid by them, a white dress hugging her form. Raven felt a bit jealous of the girl and her curves; Scarlett was by far the prettiest girl in Di Morte in her opinion and Raven was always just a little bit envious, her rather lanky form and her figure that quite resembled one of a piece of cardboard; no curves anywhere.

"Nope, you're not; I like your dress too," Raven commented, a grin on her face. She then watched Andrei drag Vincent to the gate. She laughed when she noticed the realization on his face before he let go of Vincent's wrist and ran to the post, tagging it himself. She giggled and listened to Andrei's smooth voice, a smile on her face. "I definitely wouldn't." She told him with a smile. Andrei was good looking, all of them were at Di Morte. She turned to Vincent, an apologetic smile on her face. "Looks like you're out Ginny pig Vince. I hope for your sake there's nothing nasty in the water," She told him with a large smile on her face, sauntering over to him to put her arm around his shoulder. She starting dragging him to the lake just a bit in the distance, twittering to him about nasty things that could be in the water, amusing herself.

She reached the small lake which resembled more of a rather large pong and she stopped, looking at Vincent. "Have fun," She told him innocently before pushing him in, not even giving him a chance to take his clothes off. She knew he had more and regardless, clothes always dried off. She grinned at his splash and watched him resurface, looking around. She waited a good three seconds before deeming it was safe to jump in. "Sweet, thanks Vince!" She told him, her face splitting into a grin before she jumped up, beat her wings thrice to give her some air before tucking them into her side, cannon balling into the water with a large grin on her face, feeling the large splash that her impact created. She came out from the water, smiling when she noticed her wave had splashed the others. "Come on in, the water's fantastic!" She told them all with a big smile on her face.

Vincent

Vincent coughed as he resurfaced, trying to shake the water from his eyes. "I swear you're trying to kill me..." He accused jokingly, kicking against the water to work against the extra weight of his clothing. He cupped his mouth with a hand, "C'mon guys!" He shouted. "It's actually...really warm!"

Hah. Yeah right. The water was borderline ice cold. But ...if one was sweltering...sure. He could see where they were coming from.

#, as written by Baby
Ultear

"Ultair I have removed all the glass and closed your cuts, but.." The blonde woman hovered over Ultear with lazy brown eyes. She was wearing gloves and was slowly helping Ultear raise from her operating table. Some hours and two medium length stories were passed in that encasement, and Ultear was eager to leave.

Lluvia's operating room always smelled like anesthesia and was colder then anyone else's room. There were needles and cotton swabs and in every single corner, a bottle filled with unknown liquids that could surely kill you if given the wrong dosage. It reminded Ultear of the hospital corner in the orphanage she lived in before the Ringmaster. It had the same, sickening smell that threatened to make you feel worse than when you came in. The lights were always clear and bright, and though Ultear understood why, she loathed how the refulgent room made it damn near impossible to relax.

Ultear also wasn't too keen on how Lluvia called her 'Ultair'. Annoying would be the best word to describe it. It took Ultear a lot of time and courage to bring her legs down to the floor, every movement seemed to punch her in the back, and in this state of constant pain, she guessed it was why she was so irritable.

"I cannot get the marks off of your back. They will eventually go away but it may need two weeks or so. And I know there is pain you feel, which is why I have something to numb." With a small pinch being felt on her back, Ultear clenched her teeth, waiting for the needle to be taken out. Soon the pain started to lessen and then, disappear altogether. Ultear looked over at Lluvia, turned down her eyes at the floor and inched towards the door. The blonde doctor easily overcame Ultear, beating her to the gateway of freedom.

"Who did this to you, Ultair? Was it Hugo?" Hugo, the owner of the biggest room, was ten feet tall and over 560 pounds of muscle. And though the two differed in size and appearance, Ultear would always be around him. Hugo was the closest thing to a best friend Ultear ever had, he was the only one who knew where she got her scars from and how red her eyes got when she cried. So when Hugo was accused, Ultear was shocked, and then slightly upset.

"My Hugo would never hurt me! Just because he looks like a monster does not mean he is one!" Which is true, Hugo did look like a monster. One of the more popular exhibits, Hugo's wild hair and even wilder eyes only contributed to his nickname 'The Monster'. He could easily break out of his cage and kill everyone, snapping their bodies like twigs under the pressure of an elephant's foot. But, Hugo was an absolute sweet heart. Despite not being able to eat with others or barely even walk outside his gigantic room (which was full of weights and books and food), Hugo was extremely sociable and docile. Which is probably why Ultear was so fond of him.

"Ultair, if Hugo did not hurt you, who could have? You don't seem to own many enemies," The crafty blonde paused and shifted her weight on one hip, jutting it to the side and putting a balled up fist on the edge. "Except for the Ringmaster." Ultear bit her lip, she wasn't mentally strong enough to lie to the person that probably saved her life. "Thank you Lluvia, I'll see you tomorrow." Ultear smiled and motioned with her head for Lluvia to move. Luckily, she did, and even opened the door for Ultear.

Once she stepped outside, she was met with the cool breeze of the afternoon. The air was chilling and fresh, a blessing from Lluvia's room. She heard the door behind her gently close, pushing a small scent of alcohol out as it went. Ultear walked to the dining hall to grab lunch, not minding the fact that the back of her rainbow dress was ripped and torn and showing her scars. This is the beauty of her powers, because to everyone who looked, nothing seemed wrong with Ultear. She didn't even have a limp, not in their eyes.

Ultear took her lunch on a tray and slowly limped towards Hugo's tent. It was around the outskirts, towards Memphis's room. She could hear an array of sounds, laughing, singing, and most notably, snoring. Passing by the walking circus people, many of whom gathered around trees, Ultear got closer and closer to a large, red tent. The snoring got louder and louder as Ultear limped onwards. Hugo was sleeping, one of his favorite past times. Ultear thought if she should wake her friend up; he really did like to sleep. She looked behind her and saw the long walk back to the lonely dining hall, and decided Hugo wouldn't mind.

Memphis

Show me yours first. Seductive words still whispered in his ears as he panted against the gleaming railing, casually combing his fingers through his ivory hair. He didn't want to seem weak in front of anyone—didn't want them worrying, or even asking him what his problem was. There were only a select few who'd actually overheard the heated arguments between the Ringmaster and Memphis, usually ending up in a string of curses and injured egos. He leaned heavily against one of the spirals until he caught his breath, then straightened his posture, and took a balanced seat between the bars. The softest of heartbeats shook his weak body, shuddering through his beaten tendons and leaving him breathless. As soon as he spotted Scarlett prancing in the distance, a small smile tugged on his lips. He offered a small wave, pushing away from the gate. “Hell no—... I bet it'll be Vince,” Memphis guessed, clicking his tongue.

Vincent wasn't the type to involve himself in competition. Rather, he'd tag along like a puppy and let them use him for innocent experiments—such as testing murky waters for creatures and leeches. From the looks of it, he didn't particularly mind. Memphis was drawn to his droopy eyes and easy smile; don't get him started on his beautiful drawings, there was no end to his string of compliments. It wasn't unusual for the dark man to have a lack of self control, he still felt the thrumming pulls vibrating from Scarlett's being. From his peripherals, he could see Scarlett's ivory dress billowing about her slender form, accentuating her curves. His tiresome fatigue tugged his attentions towards the feathered clouds dragging themselves lazily across the sky. Truthfully, his head was spinning. Two figures finally appeared in the distance—Vincent and Andrei, running hand in hand—until he watched Andrei's expression drop, and he dastardly tagged the gate to escape jumping into the mysterious lake.

“Cheeky dugga'!” Memphis explained, pleased that his voice seemed rather normal. His feeble lungs still burned, but he could feel his strength returning. Nothing, he believed, was strong here. All the words were breathing in some dark cave, maybe in someone else's body. It felt like there was metal in his veins, fingers pinching him from the inside of his stomach; felt like his body is filling up with smoke. It's like rain in your hair with it being the only thing strong enough to make your face fall into the pavement. And there are no words, especially none that ever gave him a sudden and shocking surprise of hurt. No sharp words in here, among friends. No casual remarks that would leave him doubting himself. They were sensitive, tracing fingertips over lips, paper over skin, and dying quietly in a place where he wasn't able to really die. And then, shaking himself from his thoughts; Andrei added that he forgot his swimsuit and he'd be swimming in his boxers. The small butterfly trapped in his chest soared at the thought, though he concealed his excitement with a soft smirk.

His eyes suddenly locked with Raven's, and his smile eased away from his lips. Worry danced in her vibrant eyes, it was enough to make him want to look away, but he didn't. He extended his thumb, flashing one of his brilliant smiles before shrugging his shoulders. Only death would keep him from being in Di Morte, no matter how much he yearned for freedom. What would he do without everyone in the circus? Better yet, who would he be? “Looks like you don't have to either,” He countered, chuckling. “You're a speed demon, ya' know that, right?” Slowly turning on his heels, he shoved his hands deep into his pockets and followed them through the woods. He took his time. Forests always ensnared his attentions, every little piece of green was alive and thriving. It was amazing how adaptive the Earth could be, and it was the only thing that remained constant in his life. Sometimes, he'd just sit on the edge of their area, nestled under a tree. It wasn't long after that they reached the small lake, which reminded him of a frog pond more than anything else. Memphis' nose scrunched up as he teetered by the shoreline, eyeing Vincent worriedly. Leeches seriously terrified him.

Before Memphis was about to voice his concerns about the questionable waters, he heard a splash, followed by water being flung onto him. He swung his sopping head around, and counted someone missing: Vincent. Only when Vincent kicked back to the surface did he laugh. Unashamedly, the tall man stripped his shirt and pants off and folded them neatly beside an old, knobby stump. His striking skeletal tattoos looked misplaced on his dark skin, reflecting the sun each time it peeked through the trees. Following Raven and Vincent's example, Memphis performed a clean flip and dove into the water, surfacing beside Vincent to drape his arms around him. “We should play—... Marco, Pollo!” Memphis' nimble fingers caught the edges of Vincent's shirt as he helped him remove it, albeit in an extremely intrusive manner.

Scarlett

The group finished their walk to the lake, it was just like the boys had said it was. Though smaller than a normal lake it would suffice, ropes hung from surrounding trees, and the water was an almost clear, but still deep blue.

“We should play—... Marco, Polo!” One of her favorite water games as a child, had just been offered by her friends. Then it was on.

Everyone had already gotten into the (freezing) water except for Scarlett, it was not like she did not want to get it, but everyone just beat her to it. Her fingertips pulled on the creamy dress as she pulled it over her head revealing her stunning body. The sun bounced lightly off her creamy skin, reflecting on her shiny hair. Normally her work outfits never revealed this much, in fact, this would be the first time any of the others had seen her in such a scare amount of clothing. She wore a rainbow bandeau bikini top that tied in the front with a matching bottoms which low rise was incredibly low; the contrast of her skin with the bold colors of the fabric were certainly a jaw dropper.

With one leap she cannon balled into the swimming hole, "Polo!" The splash radiated through the water sending a tide around to the shore. Once she resurfaced she pulled her blonde hair from her face, giving them all a devilish glance, "Who wants to be it?"

Raising one eyebrow she fixed her top then looked back up, her eyes catching Memphis for a moment, then turning back to the rest of them.

Vincent

Vincent brought his hands up to shield his face from water as a flash of ink and tan skin flew past him into the water. He looked around before feeling himself be booged down by an extra weight over his shoulders from Memphis. "Glad you could make it." He joked, kicking a little harder to stay above the surface of the water.

Nimble fingers caught the edges of Vincent's shirt as he helped him remove it, albeit in an extremely intrusive manner.

Vincent flailed in surprise when he felt something brush at the edge of his shirt, nearly yelping. 'Leeches?' But that was instantly wiped from his mind when he felt the little circles evolve into hands, gripping his shirt.
"What the-- Memphis!" He complained when his shirt was off. He reached for the article of clothing, "I could've done it myself..."

Andrei

Andrei stripped down to his boxers, moving back a few feet before running towards the water and arching in a graceful swan dive to slice through the surface. He shuddered as he hit the cold water, letting out the breath he had been holding in favor of a small shout - thankfully quieted underneath the surface. He broke to the air, taking a huge gulp before glancing around at the others, clearing his ears of water just in time to hear Memphis suggest a game of Marco Polo and Scarlett get out of being it.

"Polo!" he called, swimming over to Scarlett and treading water next to her - as though being with her would help aid his 'I'm-not-It" agenda. Well, why not? It wasn't like most people weren't attracted to her anyway. It was just...Andrei felt their shared Eastern European blood (her lovely accent, his horrendous last name) made quite a pair.

He chuckled when Vincent's shirt was forcibly removed by Memphis. Ah Memphis. What an interesting guy. Andrei hadn't really thought much about Memphis for a while, but then again, his mind had been...elsewhere.

"So, love," he turned to look at Scarlett, smirking. "How is life?"

Scarlett

"So, love," he turned to look at Scarlett, smirking. "How is life?"

Andrei treaded water next to her, his accent almost matching hers. In all of her time here, Scarlett felt as if she could trust him the most. For some strange reason she felt close to him. She was never one to trust people but he was something else, though she would never admit that to herself or to him. In fact, he was the only guy at Di Morte she wanted more than just pleasure out of, she wanted him... well, for him.

"Ah, love?" She questioned sweetly, a bead of water ran down over her cherry lips, "life is jautri." She used the Latvian word for fun instead of the English one, knowing he would pick up on her vibe. Scarlett smiled softly and pulled herself a tiny bit closer to him, closer than simply a friend would be, but not in an uncomfortable way. "How about yourself Mr. Solovyov?" Her accent flooded through his last name.

Scarlett's skin glowed in the dark water, it was as bone chilling as it was beautiful.

Memphis

Memphis sometimes wished he could freeze time, and that they could stay like this. Without harsh punishments and lessons, without being used for entertainment. No one was judged in their circle, and no one would dare ridicule anyone's' abilities. Each of them were different, they stood out in society, or so they were made to believe. The Ringmaster filled their heads with thoughts of fear and rejection; perhaps that was why no one plotted to escape his vice-grip clutches. As he waded in the water, loosening his fingers from Vincent's sopping shirt, he shook his head and returned back to the deep blue waters—with his friends.

“I—ah, sorry, Vince,” Memphis quickly apologized, smiling like a boy who'd been reprimanded. “That wouldn't have been fun.” He shrugged his shoulders, holding said captured article high above his head. It didn't do much, because Vincent was nearly as tall as he was. His errant hand, which was snaked around Vincent's waist, finally retreated and he glumly returned his shirt. A splash of water from his left caught him from surprise and he sputtered, wading a few paces away. Blonde tresses swept across the surface, revealing the devilishly attractive Scarlett. Moments like these; his sky blue eyes belonged to her.

Reality sunk in when Andrei floated next to her, Memphis forced himself to look away. Most of Di Morte seemed as enthralled by Andrei as they were with the Ringmaster. He wondered whether or not there was a correlation between the two, but dismissed it as ridiculous. No, no, people just genuinely liked him. Memphis wasn't excluded. Sometimes, he felt like they both yearned for the same thing; freedom. A smile of content spread across his lips as he flopped onto his back, letting his hands rest against his chest like a kitten. His skeletal tattoos played colours against the clear waters, shimmering like silver in a gold pan. “I'll be it," He began with a wry grin, "but I can't be blamed where my hands go." At this jest, he wiggled his fingers. As perverse as he could make himself to be, he was thinking of serious things. Things like how the universe worked, and how unlucky they'd been to be dealt their hands in life. Things like their inability to walk down a busy street, heading to the nearest coffee shop. Things like having a family. Did they want that? Did they miss what they hadn't experienced, too?

Andrei

"How about yourself Mr. Solovyov?" Her accent flooded through his last name.

Andrei sighed, as he floated, shifting so that he was on his back, hand reaching up towards the sky, long hair floating around his body, spreading out like tangled web. "Life is life," he answered softly. "Never for the worse, but always for the better, da?" He turned to look at Scarlett, before he straightened, standing up, looking out to the side - as though he could hear something.

He narrowed his eyes. Something....or someone...was out there. He didn't know how he knew, but...However, before he could try to figure it out any more, he felt other eyes on him, and turned, meeting Memphis' gaze, before the other turned to glance back at Vincent.

He returned his attention to Scarlett. "As usual, my dear, you look lovely," he complimented her off-handedly.

Ringmaster

There was something off...about this day off. The Ringmaster should have been hoarded up in his room, cuddling with his bottles, but instead...he was sober. He wandered through the campgrounds, listening to the conversations going on around him. He was uneasy of today. But then again, he was unsure of all days off. Who knew what might happen? Who knew what sort of new ideas could crop up when the exhibits and the performers had free reign?

Quite a number of the exhibits and performers had gone down to the pond - he could hear screams and the splashing of water, as well as more than a few cries of indignation even from where he stood.

But he wasn't cruel....all the time. He'd let them have their fun. Tomorrow was a work day. A rehearsal day.

Oh, and it just might be a brutal one.

Scarlett

"Life is life," he answered softly. "Never for the worse, but always for the better, da?" "As usual, my dear, you look lovely," he complimented her off-handedly.

Scarlett did not reply for a moment. Andrei was looking over at something, so out of curiosity she followed his line of sight which led directly towards Memphis. Her liquid blue ones danced in his just for a moment. Memphis was the one man at Di Morte she was not sure if she liked or not, with Andrei she did like him way more than a toy, but with Memphis? She had never spent any alone time with him to find out.

"Well don't you sound philosophical?" Though Scarlett's beauty was impeccable, so was her smarts. She could carry on in an educated intelligent conversation all day long. That was what ended up scaring most potential lovers (not sex buddies) off, the fact she was stunning and smart. "Hmmmm, lovely? I could say the same about you Andrei, though I think handsome fits much more appropriately."

She gave him a soft smile and looked over to him for a moment deciding he was certainly handsome indeed.
