Allister looked at his watch as he put his shirt on. He looked at the people passing threw the ally way. He watched as the humans walked passed him. So weak put he couldn't help but think how happy they were. He didn't know why the god's cursed him with these powers. He walked through the crowd till he got to the Village Center. He sat at the first bench he could find. He put his headphones in and began to listen to his music.

Briar fiddled with the teardrop of ice she had just formed in her hands. She was sitting in a tree in the Village Center, overlooking the people passing beneath her. They all looked so happy, so peaceful. Then again, they were ignorant of the plight of the thousands like her. The thousands of humans who had to run and hide for the majority of their life from the people who called themselves Hunters.

That's right, she was an Abomination.

She was a cryogenia, one who could create and manipulate ice, bending it to her will. She was afraid for her life, knowing that because of her gift, she was something that people would always hate, and the only thing she could do was sit around and watch her kind slowly die out.

But that is why she fights. She fights to live, and she fights because she cannot change who she is no matter how hard she tries. As she sat up in the tree, all of these thought passed through her mind. She could see below her people come and go, though she desperately wanted to connect with one of her own.

She dropped the icedrop onto the ground, watching it melt and soak into the earth. She positioned herself so that she was laying with her back on the branch, her long silver hair falling below her. It would look odd to some that she was up in the tree, but why should they question her, she didn't look dangerous, and she was bothering no one. Sighing, she formed another drop of ice in her hand and started to shape it, this time into a star. It wouldn't be long until Hunters showed up, and she wanted to enjoy this peace while she could.

Entering the village center with his mp3 blasting into his ears, Rayden sighed. "Here comes the lightning." he whispered, as he stared off into space. 'Now what?' he thought, rolling his shoulder. The people never knew what it's like to alone in the world. So they were ignorant to others' problems.

Thorn dropped a note on the cold metal table and left the cafe and dregs of coffee behind. There had been reports of a couple of freaks wandering the village recently. Mostly it was just rumors and usual paranoia. But some of the rumors had credit. Like the one of a woman who could generate ice.

He wandered down to the Village center, just for a break and a time to take his mind off problems. He hit a bit of a crowd, tourists it looked like. He bumped into a man going the same direction. He apologized but the guy had already disappeared amongst the crowd. John finally emerged into the Village center, with green park with trees and benches it was a nice place to just be.

He began to walk to the far side of the park, as he passed under a tree something flashed in front of him. He looked at where it fell. It seemed to be ice, but quickly it disappeared, absorbed into the soil. He looked up and caught a glimpse of flowing white, a dress or perhaps hair.

He walked on, the peace he'd hoped to find gone as he wondered who that girl in the tree was. Was she crying? Thats what the drop seemed to be. Why would she be? He sat himself on a bench with a clear view of the tree. He couldn't see whoever was in it because of the lush green foliage.

The Planet Arrakis, also known as Dune.
He who controls Arrakis, controls the Spice. He who controls the Spice, controls the universe.

Briar sighed and rolled back over on her branch. She needed to do something; she was getting restless. Pulling her hair into a low-hanging ponytail, she jumped out of the tree, landing such that the hand with the icy star was pressed to the ground, and the frozen little gem melted away beneath her.

She stretched her limbs as she stood up; stying in the tree for so long had made her slightly sore. Yawning slightly, she looked around, making sure there was no danger in sight. Anxious, she rubbed her fingers together, producing yet another drop of ice, yet melting and starting to form one all over again. It was one of her nervous habits, and though she would have wished for something less conspicuous, she couldn't control it, and resigned herself to knowing that she would have to live with it.

But the day would be over soon, and she needed to find some other place to stay; some place where seeing a homeless girl wouldn't be so uncommon. She continued to look around, as alert as she could be to the possibility of Hunters. She was well aware of the fact that there was one in the area now- her anxiousness wasn't for nothing- but she couldn't pinpoint where they were. There was only one Hunter- she could tell that much- but unfortunately all she had to go on was a gut feeling, and that only served to make her more jumpy. She began to walk slowly, hoping not to draw attention to herself.

Funny thing, though, was that she could feel another Abomination close by too. They seemed to have similar powers to hers, a cryogenia of some sort or other. As she got farther and farther away from the center of the village, however, the feeling began to disappear. Curious, she slowed down, and inconspicuously turned, heading back in the direction she'd just come from. Like she expected, the feeling grew stronger and stronger until she was back where she started, at the tree. Confused, she looked around; the only other people she could see were some scattered people watchers on benches, and those passing by.

What was going on? Was this some new Hunter trick to get her to stay in one place; or was there actually a potential ally there? Whatever it was, she needed to find out.

Atessa wandered aimlessly through the park. She had been trying to blend in with the humans as much as possible. This involved not using her fire powers, and living in an apartment and having a job. This was hard for her, she was used to having every thing handed to her, she was used to people fearing and running from her. It was hard, but nice. She had a long day at the coffee shop that she worked at. The walk relaxed her gave her time to think, and sort out her life.

John looked around the park. Amongst the green he saw several people who wandering or sitting aimlessly. He smiled, most likely they were like him, relaxing in the afternoon sun and the calming surroundings. Movement at the edge of his vision brought his attention back to the tree he had passed under. He looked around in time to see a young woman drop out of the obscuring branches and land gracefully.

She was obviously the one he had seen before, because both her hair and garments where an pure white, although a bit smeared by the bark and dirt. He stood up, wondering weather he should wander over and ask her if she was alright, he had the impression she had been crying. He stood up, making it seem like a natural thing. Before he could move, however, she looked around, seemingly worried and nervous, and John got a look at her face. What he saw seemed to stop him even breathing. She was beautiful, her white hair tied up in a pony tail revealing her clean cut, pale face. In an instant she was moving off and John couldn't seem to start after her so he returned to his bench.

He sat staring at the tree, pondering what he had just seen and what had gone through his mind. He obviously thought her the most beautiful woman he had seen. This was different to the numerous crushes he had through his adolescent years. While they had all ended in disaster or depression or any number of bad things. This time he felt... light and unworried.

He looked up at the darkening park and his heart jumped as he noticed the woman had wandered back. He stood up, once again trying to be natural and sauntered over to her, his heart thudding so fast and loud that he was sure she could hear it as he approached. He tried not to stare as he casual commented "Do you usually sit in trees?"

"Do you usually sit in trees?"

The voice broke her concentration and she turned to it's source. In front of her stood a boy, about her age, with black hair held back by some sort of red band. He was handsome, and looked as if he belonged there; he had a sense of- She suddenly took a step back, her breath quickening. He was the source of that strange feeling. He was the other cryogenia. Realizing how awkward she must have looked, she let the shock bleed out of her in the from of a tiny iced teardrop in her hand.

"I find them quite comfortable, you see," she said, a bit hesitantly. She had come face to face with near starvation, almost certain death, and nasty, brutal torture; however, now, when face to face with a potential ally, she couldn't even remember how to act. She had to wonder: did he sense her, too? Did he know that she could control ice, and therefore approached her? He definitely had the gift of ice, yet there was something else, something foreign and unfamiliar that gave her an uneasy feeling.

"The trees seem to be more of a comfort than people," she said, looking away from him for the first time. Despite her excitement of meeting one of her own, there was an undercurrent of sadness in her voice that matched the glint of loneliness in her eyes. "You should try it some time; it might be more exciting than you think."

John was confused at the girl's reaction to him. Her step back and the shock in her face made him think of his school days and the girls that rejected him. This didn't stop his nerves standing on end and his heart threatening to blow. She seemed to recover quickly, fiddling with her fingers. Some sort of nervous habit, John didn't dwell on it.

"I find them quite comfortable, you see," He gave a little humorous smile which died quickly as he noticed her hesitance. He looked at her face, eyes exploring its delicate curves and features. He looked away a bit too quickly, she was sure to notice his attention. However she looked occupied, thinking of something, confused. As if some sort of struggle was going on behind her beautiful features. He looked back at her as she walked away and noticed something he didn't notice before; she seemed icy, her skin looked like it would be cold to touch.

"The trees seem to be more of a comfort than people. You should try it some time; it might be more exciting than you think." John took advantage of her looking away from him to observe her more carefully. He noticed that her voice was subdued, as if she was sad. Her body language said the same. He began to wonder what could be so wrong. He was certain she was crying before, by the tree.

"I might one time" He said a little too quickly and filled with false humor. He laughed, hoping to at least get her to smile "I prefer to keep my feet on the ground; I'm not too keen on falling from a tree."

He proffered his hand "By the way, my name is John Thorn." Just as he did that his mobile began to ring; an annoying little tune. He sighed and dug his other hand into his pocket and brought out the phone, his other hand still held out. He looked at the caller and paused and frowned. It was a Hunter, one that John kept in contact with, to help find the Abominations. He pressed the answer button and put the phone to his ear, muttering a half-hearted "Hello."

Atessa looked at her watch, it was getting to be late afternoon. Usually she would be rushing off to work, or to the grocery store to get things for dinner. Not today though, she was going to just going to enjoy her afternoon off. A small yawn escaped her as she walked through the park. Her feet where beginning to get sore so she took a seat on a bench. As soon as she did her brain turned on in over drive. What was she doing here? Why did she want to be human? What is so bad about being different? These thoughts where bad for her, she began second guessing her decision to blend in with the humans. Maybe she could quit her job and move out of this town. Move some where that didn't know who she was or what she was. She sighed heavily, distracted for a moment at the sound of some one's cell phone. She knew it was rude to listen to other people's phone calls, but she had nothing better to do right now.

Chloe yawned slightly. She was exhausted, as usual. She hadn't been able to sleep at all the previous night... Again. Shaking her head, she tucked a strand of her blonde hair away from her eyes. This area looked like it could have some potential. Maybe.

She bit her lip softly, looking around. Not a lot seemed to be going on here. She felt her heart jump in excitement, since it seemed perfect here. She wiped her clammy palms on her dirty jeans and entered into the main town square. She made a slight face as the thoughts of those around her bombarded her. She closed her eyes for a moment, shaking it off quickly. She really needed to figure out how to control that. And fast.

Another small yawn escaped the petite girl as she walked over to a bench and sat down. She wasn't sure what she was doing here, but she hoped she'd figure it out sooner or later. She closed her eyes and leaned back in the bench, stretching slightly.

Chloe started to hum, to attempt to keep the thoughts at bay. She hated it when they intruded her own. It was hard to tell which was which. Was she really thinking that she was late? Did she really believe that she should move out of town? Chloe shook her head, biting her lip hard again. She knew her own thought when it came: She wanted it to be quiet for once.

"My name is John Thorn," he said offering his hand to her. Just as she went to shake it with her own, the mobile phone in his pocket rang. She placed her hand gently in his and gave a brief shake before drawing back. If she didn't believe that he was an abomination before, then the handshake confirmed it. She could almost feel the ice traveling through him, and it exhilarated her. She took a small step back and gave him a smile as he answered the call. As soon as he was done, she would ask him if he felt the chill from her and then- Her thoughts were interrupted as a shiver ran down her spine.

She was being watched.

She could feel the eyes boring into her from somewhere to her left and she almost looked that way in a brief second of panic. She calmed herself, though and looked to the right, figuring that was what the person watching her would want. If she looked directly at them, then they would know she knew and well... things would get nasty from there.

She looked back at John Thorn mouthing 'I'm sorry,' before taking a step back from him. She took another step back and then another, until she felt the bark of the tree up against her back. Counting to three, she looked to her left and swung herself back up into the tree. She would be well hidden by the leaves, and if necessary she would have to freeze the whole thing and escape. She knew that the hunters would be there soon, and now, she had put one of her own in danger.

John felt the buzz run up his arm as he touched the girl's hand. He felt the power in her, the genetic alteration, the coldness and ice in her. His eyes when wide with shock and his power began to manifest itself, his arm's temperature shot down. Water condensed on his skin before he pulled away his hand quickly.

In his ear a weedy voice came through, bringing a thankful distraction. "I've found the cyrogen" It sounded as it it belong to a small, unscrupulous man, which it did. Before John could say anything the woman in front of him, whos name he still didn't know, tensed up. The voice in his ear continued, uttering words which would change his life forever:
"Shes standing right next to you"
John stiffened, looking at Briar with new eyes. This woman, who he found obsessively attracted to was one of his kind; An abomination, the likes of which he'd killed with no remorse.

Time seemed to slow as Briar began stepping back from him. Everything John though he had sorted out; Killing people like him to return to a normal life as a human. It was shattered, the guilt fell on him like a battering ram. He had killed his own kind. He had murdered without a thought to others, only caring about his dream. He was a monster, he was a real abomination. But what should he do, save the girl, or join mankind

Time kicked back into focus as the voice on the phone spoke up again, starting to sound desperate. "She is nearly in my sights! Stop her!" It yelped as Briar backed away. The line went dead, a moment later a resounding crack sang out. Jolting John back into life. It was the sound of a sniper rifle. A foot way from the woman the earth exploded as the rifle round missed her. John's head followed the trail the round had blazed and spotted a glint of light. The reflection on the scope.

All at once the mix of emotions inside John burst out. Anger flowed through him, his blood boiled. His face set, lips and eyes narrow, frightening. He had chosen a side. The anger flowed through, unlike anything before. Uncontrollable he began to radiate. His power out of control, he air around began to heat up. already the heat haze was visible. He took his step, towards the building and the hunter. He spoke over his shoulder, not shouting but loud enough so the woman could hear "Stay put". His pace speed up. The grass beneath every footstep withered at his coming. His phone, grasped tightly in his hand, began to melt, the plastic coating morphing to the shape of his fingers. The biggest change was his eyes, which before had been an icy blue. They had turned red, a fiery, active red, flickering.

Playing catch me if you can with the Hunters, Rayden was only pissing them of more with his speed and agilty. "Stay still you freak!" leader bellowed, as his hunters were being a mockery of by this abomination. "Hm, no thanks. Rather not." Rayden replied, easily ducking another hunter's attempt at capturing him. 'And to think, I haven't use my powers yet.' he mused, as he side stepped another hunter. "Calling all freaks, I could use a hand." he said aloud.

The shot rang out just as she lifted off the ground and into the tree, missing her by mere centimeters. She could hear the panic of people around her- a shot out of nowhere would frighten anyone- and she felt sorry that she had brought this upon them. She crouched in anticipation as she saw John tense. Did the phone call have anything to do with what was happening? She could feel and see heat coming off of him- strange considering she had just felt the ice that trickled through his veins. The phone was melting in his hand, dripping into a glob of plastic between his fingers. The change in him was obvious, but he was not what she initially thought him to be. His eyes glowed a fiery red, and she felt fear. What would he do?

"Stay put," his voice reached her ears as his pace began to quicken. He was heading towards something- someone- crouched with a sniper rifle aimed in her direction. The shot had been a close one; any closer and she would have been on the ground, cold blood pooling about her. It didn't take her long to realize that John was going to kill the man; that look on anyone would suggest the same idea. She knew she would have to stay put, she would become sick if she were to fight by his side; he was heat, and the ice in her veins would melt and boil until near insanity.

And so she watched in fearful anticipation.
