Hui-gyeong

I'm living proof that being lucky is better than being smart

0 · 816 views · located in fantasy

a character in “Avalon's fall”, as played by rpannier

Description

Hui-gyeong is a 16 year old girl about 5'2" tall and just shy of a hundred pounds; she can easily be mistaken for someone a tad younger than she is. She is cute. Her skin is an almond color. Her eyes are brown, her mouth, ears and nose are small, but proportional and suitable to her size. She has long, straight black hair that hangs almost to her knees. She usually wears her hair in a pony tail or in twin tails (she carries pieces of twine to tie her hair with). Hui-gyeong is also thin.
Seeing her up close, she often looks tired/exhausted.
She comes from the lowest end of the society. She dresses in a dark tunic that covers half-way to her knees, though it appears a little small on her. It is old and somewhat worn. She wears high soft boots that come up to her knees, and like her tunic they are old looking as well. She travels mostly on foot, so it's not uncommon for her to look dirty and bedraggled.

(Will post an avatar when I find a good one)

Personality

Hui-gyeong is, to say the least, rather manic. By nature, she is a pleasant girl, who likes to have fun and enjoys seeing new things. She is inquisitive. By nurture, she is wary of others, this is due to her childhood. Hui-gyeong is self-absorbed in how she sees the world; she feels her misery is probably worse than most, she is self-conscious over whether she has offended others, she is cautious.
She is a survivor and is constantly in 'Survival Mode.' This causes her to be stressed a lot and contributes to her looking tired and sounding whiny.
When she meets someone for the first time she is often guarded, keeps a safe distance from the new person and her eyes constantly dart around the area making sure that everything is safe. She will be overly polite, figuring that by doing so she is less likely to raise suspicion or cause an issue with the other person.
Once she is comfortable in an environment, she is much more fun to be around and likes to try new things with the group and to learn more about each person; sometimes to the point of being annoyingly nosy.
While she is highly protective if her things, she is touchy when it comes to someone else's items. When she sees something she doesn't understand or she sees something new that interests her, her first response is to scout it and once she's decided it's safe, she touches and holds it to get a better appreciation of the item. This has lead to a misunderstanding or two with local merchants, who figure the girl has more sinister plans for the object.
When confronted by a dangerous or overwhelming situation, her response is to flee until the threat has gone.
She comes from an area where girls were not respected or wanted. A product of her upbringing, she believes she is 'a stupid girl' of no particular worth. In addition to her low self-esteem, she is somewhat self-pitying.

Equipment

She wears a dark tunic; the color could either be a fading black, dark blue or olive green. It's so old, it's hard to tell to anyone looking. Around her waist is a belt that hangs a pouch that she keeps the few coins she carries and a dagger. Around her neck she wears a bone white flat pendant with a lt blue stone in the middle attached to a string that she uses a necklace. The pendant is a gift from an old man she met on her travels. The pendant and stone, while interesting looking, are of little value to a fence.
She carries a pack on her back that she keeps an old blanket, another old, dark tunic, a bowl, a small cloth with a few valuable rocks wrapped in it and a pair of sticks that she eats with. The sticks are the only thing she owns of fine quality, made of crafted bone. (She never touches her food and she needs the sticks to be constantly clean even if she isn't).
In a small bag she has a few herbs that she uses for seasoning food.

History

Born into a very poor family in the remote northeastern province of Moondeok, Hui-gyeong had a very hard life as a girl; her life was made more difficult in that the people of Moondeok consider girls to be a net minus. She had three brothers who died before their second birthday. Her father was a horrid man, who treated her badly and her mother was also fairly useless, never once coming to defense of the beatings her daughter took.
Most of Moondeok is either mountainous or farmland, it has a half dozen cities, with it's largest being Saergahl, a border community where almost all trade with the outside world takes place. In Saergahl, almost anything is a commodity and at the age of thirteen, Hui-gyeong found herself a commodity. Her mother gave birth to another son and her father wanted money to assure his survival, so he took Hui-gyeong to Saergahl to see what he could get for her. He shopped her around to various men of ill-fame; slavers, brothel owners and others trying to see what he could fetch as a price for his oldest child.
He found a buyer, a well-dressed, older man missing an eye. He took an odd interest in Hui-gyeong; he seemed more interested in her "potential" than in her. He offered ten times the highest offer and the deal was done.
The man had her placed in a special cage on the back of a cart, with orders to never be allowed out of the cart for any reason until they got to the coast. While every other purchase was forced to walk the distance, she was the only one who rode. Along the trip Hui-gyeong got sick and the men let her out to clean the wagon and allow her to heal. As they waited a mist formed, eventually turning into a fog. The diversion allowed her to escape.
She ultimately sought refuge with an old man who also found her "interesting" and "of great potential." He fed her, cared for her when she was sick, gave her clothes and a bed of her own. He spent much of their time together just talking to her, teaching her how to recognize good plants from bad, how to heal her wounds, how to cook, etc. He also taught her to be wary of others, for evil is everywhere.
She lived there until she was half-way to fifteen and then he gave her a backpack, a knife, some clothes, a blanket and other items and told her it was time for her to move on and meet her destiny. Before she left, he gave her the pendant that she threaded into a cheap string necklace she wore around her neck and she was off.
A few times she was pursued by slavers (and others). She would often find some old hovel, a tree, a cave or ditch to hide in. Each escape was met with the mist forming, eventually becoming a thick fog that prevented the men from pursuing her any further. On one occasion a trio of slavers nearly caught her. She slipped in an open field as they closed in. Suddenly a wind appeared almost out of nowhere and picked up every stalk, every leaf, grain of sand and light rock and assaulted the men forcing them into retreat, half-blinding two of the men.
She was traveling through the mountains of Lanaton when the creatures struck Avalon. She is on a muddy road in Avalon.

Hui-gyeong is an elemental magic-user, her element is air (though she possesses a little water ability). Her magic right now is limited to the above mentioned and it's not particularly powerful (compared to accomplished wizards), but it is effective. Her magic is channeled through her emotions and affects her physically when she uses them:
The fog/mist is a protective spell and has no malicious intent to it, so after the event is over she is often left dazed and confused or giddy and silly.
The wind is an attack spell and comes from her deepest, darkest emotions. Her hatred for her father, her mother, the community, the slavers, anyone who has ever mistreated her is where this spell originates in her psyche. It is a negative magic that is destructive and it makes her light headed, confused and very sick; depending on the level of energy she expends it can incapacitate her for more than a couple of days.
In rare instances, the wind will surface to protect her, but will not cause damage to anyone or anything. While it is not a malicious, it's effects certainly are, because she still loses much of her energy and her headache is just as intense as if she were attacking someone or something.
She does not realize that she is the source of the magic and that she can cast it. Being fairly superstitious, she believes that she has a 'Messenger' that is protecting her and when he is forced to save her, punishes her with confusion or illness to remind her to be smarter.

So begins...

Ike nodded fewly now and then, understanding everything, unless the fact that the guy was from outside. He tilted his head, interest, as if it was something new to learn from. He looked at the pot of honey, but refused it politely, saying: ā€œIā€™m not hungry for the moment,ā€ smirking at the hint of humor from Naddels.

Then, it is the turn of another stranger to raise her voice towards him with a question on which he already answered. However, without any remarks, he would answer once again, having a lighter smile on his face: ā€œMy name is Ike, maā€™am. Iā€™m sorry if my intrusion in your group, but it is rather lonely around here.ā€ He scratched the back of his head, looking back at Naddel, saying with his smile melting away: ā€œTalking about people... What happened around here? I was clearly sleep when everything happened.ā€ Ike wasnā€™t quite sure if he was at his home when everything happened. Everyone seemed to be preoccupied by his red eyes. Is red very unusual around here? he thought to himself

And then, another voice was added to the conversation, and the red-eyed male glanced towards the sound source, indirectly, or what he thought could be where the female voice was standing.Putting his arm over his shoulder, on his back, he gave a slight smile, saying: ā€œWell, Iā€™m guessing that there might be more people that survived.ā€ Honestly, I donā€™t even know who that so called Clarissa isā€¦, he immediately thought to himself, and sighed lightly under his breath.

Naddel Pulls the Honey Pot away, and place's it back in the corner, hearing the voice he shoots his eye to the window hearing someone say Greetings, I am Clarissa of Solaire. Some call me the 'White Flash'. Looking at everyone with curious eyes but he remains silent thinking, and is very concerned of more hospitality. Like he said before though, the more in the group the better chance they have at survival. Something hit Naddel, somewhere in the heart, made him want to rebuild and live in this kingdom. Would that be possible? Those things come every night, how would we stop them. Why are they trying to kill us? Naddel then scratching the back of his head continues to wonder of the possibility.

These people had yet to reveal themselves, despite having acknowledged her presence with a verbal response. Clarissa was tempted to simply barge to the upper floors where they apparently were, going by the sounds of their voices from earlier. If only these were enemies she had to slay, only then could she do that. Instead, she had to wait here. It was only polite to do so, at least, until they decide to invite her up. As she waited for their response, she noted that none of them seemed to recognize the name 'White Flash'. Likely, these people were either natives of Avalon, or foreigners.

Only one way to find out; she was a foreigner herself in this land after all. ""To whoever spoke, I must correct you. I am not a 'survivor', per se. I was not here when whatever happened to this place happened,"" Clarissa said, loudly, so those upstairs could hear. She began to look around for a way up, only to realize the only way up was probably through the windows outside. ""I am here to offer assistance, however. I am a warrior of some repute in my hometown, and I have encountered the beasts in this city. A challenge indeed; perhaps you would have some use for me?""

Recognizing that whoever were in these house were unlikely to decide to attack her, she instead shifted her attention to the situation outside the building. The streets were still quiet; the beasts that she fought earlier were not around, or have perhaps decided to stay away for the time being. Or if they had some form of intelligence, they were likely to plan an attack on the building en masse. Either way, the peace and calm for the time was an unsettling one, even for Clarissa, she thought as she waited for the others' reply.

Feeling very rude for not greeting her, Naddel walks to the window. Naddel says to her "Sorry for your time of waiting!" setting down the rope to help her up her. "My name is Naddel Harren, pleased to meet your acquaintance." he says to her when she gets inside. "I will go up the ladder to the third floor to see if there is any good room." Naddel climbs up the ladder to smell the smell of the dead, the two dead corpses lay there rotting with the foul sound, surprised he couldn't smell it from the room under neath.
He didn't know what to do with the bodies. Yelling to everyone who is willing to come upstairs. "You might wanna come up here, this isn't the most pleasant of sight's and I wish not to handle it myself."

Pleased that the people upstairs has finally decided to accept her, she took one quick survey of the streets from within the building before heading outside. It was still quiet, but she had to wonder - for how long? She reached for the rope and scaled it without much difficulties. When she entered the upper floors, she was surprised to see more than just the two people. Initially, she had thought it was just two men, but apparently, there were some young girls around as well. Neither of them looked anything beyond 20, which essentially makes her about 10 years their senior.

On second thought, looking now at the two men, she realized her age of 27 may well make her the oldest in this house. The man that allowed her access looked to be about 20 or greater... The only other person who may be older - though unlikely. The other male voice she heard came from a boy... She didn't need to guess his age to know he was younger than her. What caught her attention were his eyes though. However, she quickly averted her gaze to prevent herself from seeming disrespectful to people who had just showed her hospitality.

Yet her mind would not stop contemplating this fact. Red eyes were only found as a unique trait of the Royal Family of Solaire. If so, what would a member of the Royal Family of Solaire be doing here? Or perhaps it was just a coincidence? Maybe it was something common among the people of Avalon or some foreign lands. Nevertheless, she nodded to the man that led her up as he introduced himself. Naddel, he was called.

He took leave of her as he went upstairs via a ladder to search for more rooms to accommodate the group. As he did so, Clarissa decide to approach the younger girls. What were such young girls doing in a place like this? She slowly approached them, not knowing what to say. Having been a mercenary for a little more than a decade, she has had no experience with children, or at least, people younger than she was. On closer inspection, she realized one of the girls was injured and was resting. Another girl was up, likely one of the voices she vaguely heard when she was out on the streets. A streak of white in her otherwise jet black hair was her most defining characteristic. Clarissa made a mental note of that as she glanced over to the last young girl.

This girl appeared older than the other girls, but more interestingly, she sensed something different about this girl. It felt like... The touch of magic. Clarissa cannot claim to be a master of magic, but she has had used it and faced people who used it enough to at least have a rough idea about whether a person could or could not use magic. This girl seemed capable of that, at least, to a greater extent than the other two, she noted. She was about to ask her name when she heard Naddel call to the rest to come up.

Clarissa didn't hesitate, more happy to join him than to stay where she was, awkwardly staring at the girls and the strange, red-eyed boy. She quickly climbed the ladder. Almost immediately, the stench of death hit her. If not for her years of mercenary work, she would have puked by now. She walked over to the bodies, looking down at the rotting corpses. The extent of rot had reached a point where the bodies were unidentifiable. Even the cause of death was now hidden by the grotesquely rotten skin; Clarissa looked away, not wanting to see if maggots had already infested the body. She didn't need to know.

""Well, we should move these bodies away,"" she said nonchalantly. For a moment, she was very tempted to simply open a window and toss the body out, as she did to her enemies in the course of her mercenary work. However, it seemed too dishonorable considering she had just intruded on what was likely their property. Instead, she looked around the floor. Walking down the hallway, she noticed there were some more bodies in other rooms. Thankfully, there were also some rooms that were completely empty, and clean too. Those had two single beds, but she supposed it would do fine. Beats having to sleep with a corpse in the same room. Besides having to deal with the stench, there would also be the fear that the corpse would suddenly reanimate and attack them.

A silly fear, no doubt; Clarissa motioned to Naddel,""Let us move these corpses into those rooms with bodies in it. We could use those without any corpses inside to rest in.""

#, as written by hawon
Chinatsu stares nervously as the woman eyes her. She flashes a small smile and makes a bowing motion with her head. She knows she must be polite for two reasons; The first is, the woman has grey hair and while she isn't a grandmother, she's obviously really old, probably 30. And second, the way the woman carries herself, the way she's dressed, her clean complexion, Chinatsu is sure she is either from a royal or noble family. Whatever the woman is, she is obviously more important than Chinatsu.

At Naddel's call, Chinatsu leaps to her feet, staff in hand, just in case of trouble. "Stay with her." Chinatsu tells Hui-gyeong, motioning toward the still injured Kumiko. She follows the woman up the ladder to the third floor. Naddel is right, it's a rather unpleasant sight. Cinatsu cpulls her top up over her nose and mouth to try and cover the noxious odor. It doesn't work really well, but it's better than nothing.

"Let us move these corpses into those rooms with bodies in it. We could use those without any corpses inside to rest in." the woman suggests. Chinatsu shakes her head, but doesn't say anything. These things are rotting and they could cause sickness. They also may bring those creatures back if they come back to collect their prizes. Staying in this building is just a really bad idea.

Chinatsu looks around at the rooms, the ceiling above, the drop to the second and first floor, then at the splinters left from the door. This is a death trap. Those things will have no trouble locating them. "Ummmm..." she says trying to get their attention. "I'm not sure the girl down there can get up this high. And even if she can, we still have the door on the first floor. The door the creature through the man through it's destroyed. And the thing is layuing dead down there. I don't think being up here will keep them from finding us. And if they see it dead, they'll really want to kill us. We have to find some other place, or fix the door.

Easing his clothing a bit by dragging his shirt down so it wasnā€™t covered of wrinkles, he looked at this Clarissa that just joined the group. ā€™I guess that someone more mature in the group wonā€™t cause much troubleā€¦ā€™ he thought to himself as he looked around at the corpse, without any phase of fear in his face, only in deep thoughts. It was true that corpse could get the attention of the unwanted visitor, but something else troubled his thoughts: what those visitors were after? It was sure that those creatures wanted from the civilization of Avalon, but why, after this success would they still come at night?

ā€œAll of this seems suspiciousā€¦ā€ he murmured to himself, rubbing his chin. However, he shook his head, turning it back to listen to the others talking on how to dispose the bodies. He just followed behind, not wanting to suggest anything, if not, nodding once of twice. Ike was sure that woman was of trust, after all, she is in need in case of a battle against those demons.

Then, there was the suggestion of repairing the door, or find somewhere else to stay. He thought for a moment; if they stay in this place, they were in some danger if those creatures now how to get up here, and no matter how, theyā€™ll want to kill us for the purpose that he couldnā€™t think of. Find somewhere elseā€¦ but where? This land was going to fall into chaos once again at night, if not, sooner than predicted. ā€œI thinkā€¦ā€ he said softly, ā€œI think we should get out of Avalon.ā€ There was a bit of nervous in his voice; he never got out of Avalon before.

Looking back at Ike when he says to leave Avalon, It slightly ached him at the word of it, he kind of liked the challenge of fighting against the demon's although the fatalities are what not. This city, in the short amount of time he has been here has grown to him. "It is safer than staying here, Still everyone needs to heal off, and it will be dark before we make it anywhere,

We'd need supplies we can't just walk there empty handed or we would be walking skeleton's if we went far."
Still Naddel was okay on Ike's idea to leave, it still stole a piece of himself to leave.

Hui-gyeong nods, sitting up she watches their injured ally. Kumiko looks fairly bad off, but she does look like she's going to be fine. Hui-gyeong rises and stands next to the prone girl. Hui-gyeong scans the room. It appears that it was once a trading or storage room. The multitude of broken crates, overturned tables, splintered floors, etc make it difficult to really tell which it was. The contents that were mostly in the crates not only lay strewn about the building, but they've been crushed, broken and shattered beyond recognition. For all she knows, much of what was in this room has been removed, maybe by thieves, maybe by proprietors who grabbed what they could before fleeing for their lives. Whatever this was, whatever happened here, it's unlikely this building will be used again anytime soon by anyone but them.
Hui-gyeong tries to focus a little on her newly understood abilities. She tries to think how she could use her powers when she chooses to, rather than when an emergency strikes and she is panicked. It would be nice to cast a spell and not be laid out afterword. She spots a piece of paper beneath on the floor. She focuses on it, concentrates hard trying to get it to float. Nothing happens. Hui-gyeong closes her eyes and concentrates but again, nothing. Finally after several tries she gives up, "That girl doesn't know what she's talking about." Hui-gyeong mutters. "Like I could make magic. I was stupid for even thinking I could." she adds.

Their concerns were valid. After all, having faced up to those beasts, Clarissa could safely say she did not want to be fighting an entire horde of such beasts alone, or with people that didn't seem too capable of wiping out a horde themselves. Perhaps if her mercenary group were here, things would be much different, but unfortunately that wasn't the case, so the idea of leaving was quite possibly the best idea. Still, it was a reluctant realization - one that she would rather do without. To think she had just went as far as to travel into Avalon just so she could have a feel of the action here. It seems it might have been a wasted trip after all.

However, Naddel rightly pointed out that supplies would be a necessity. Having spoken of that, it brought Clarissa's mind back to the fact that she has her own supplies. She had a week's supply of dry rations stuffed in her cloth bag, and she took about 5 days to travel into Avalon, leaving her with 2 days' worth left. As loathe as she was to use it in this manner, she looked over to the rest of the group that she had just met.

""Speaking of rations, if you do not have any rations for our meals today, perhaps you could have some of mine, I have enough for 2 days."" She said, and nodding towards the wounded girl, noting that the girl probably requires a greater share of the rations - should they desire to split it.

Still, Clarissa could not simply leave as soon as she had came. She looked to the rest, saying,[ic]"And while I will agree that it may be best for you to leave Avalon, I must say I came here for the adventure and the challenge. I do not intend to leave so quickly, considering I had just arrived some days ago. If you wish, I will escort you to the borders of a safer, neighboring Kingdom, but I will return to Avalon."

With that, she began to drag the corpses, using the dirtied bed sheets from some rooms to wrap around their rotting limbs as she began to drag them along into the room furthest from where they were standing.

Kumiko watched Chinatsu climb the ladder. "I can make that." she told herself, "I just don't think I can get back down." she sighed softly. Hui moved next to her, standing, looking out at the bottom floor, "It's a disaster. She didn't know what it used to be, but now it's just a lot of broken wood and glass. Before the demons, a room like this would have been gold; she'd have picked it clean of all the valuable things. But now, water and a loaf of bread is worth more than a sackful of gold. The people who helped her are worth more than all the gold in the city. It's true she helped them when she went down the rope, but she's seen people who helped get left behind when they got hurt. Lots of people out there who only care about them and no one else.

She watched the new girl above on the third floor. Her voice echoed through the building, moving someone into rooms and then taking the rooms with no one in them. She wasn't sure what to think. It would be silly of Kumiko to be suspicious of her just because she was new. In this group, she wasn't the newest, but she had only joined them a bit before last night, so she was hardly a lifer. Chinatsu was new and she had been helpful. For all Kumiko knew, had Chinatsu not been here, her wounds might have gotten infected and she'd be in real trouble. She would have to ignore her worries. The new woman was in their group. Besides, she probably had the same concerns about the group anyway. It was natural to be afraid, suspicious, scared. But it wasn't good for the group.

She watched Hui trying to do something, she wasn't sure. She was looking at something below. Then she closed her eyes and seemed to be thinking of something, but couldn't remember... or something. She looked frustrated. Then her face would change a little and then frustrated again. "What's she doing?" Kumiko wondered. She thought of asking, but was afraid it was an Air Wizard thing and didn't want to distract her or make her angry. Kumiko had seen the damage Hui-gyeong could cause when angry or frightened or whatever she was when she made magic. She didn't see her wipe out that thing that threw the man through the door, but she could see it now. Well, what was left of it, and it wasn't pretty.
The one thing she did know, Naddel's honeypot was not going to help them for very long. They'd need real food and she knew where to find it. But until she knew what was happening she wasn't going to say or do anything. She hurt too bad to do anything dumb. She'd save that for when she was better and then do something insanely crazy

When Naddel comes back with the apples, Kumiko feels sick. "There is a bread store and a butcher that have good food." she mutters. Kumiko slides off the floor and looks down at the first floor. "We'll starve if I don't do something." Kumiko signals to the other girls, "I need someone to help me." she says trying to keep her balance. "I know where real food is." she hopes that at least one of them will go with her and not tell her they're too afraid. Or worse, tell her she needs to rest and they'll go look. Chances are, they'll have as little success as he's having.

Before anyone could really respond to Naddel, he was out of the building, off to scavenge rations from the area surrounding the building. Clarissa would have followed, but she opted to stay, doing a last round of checks to ensure the rooms were now hospitable. Most rooms were not in the best state of cleanliness, but the group shall have to make do. As soon as she was done, she decided to check on the rest of the group, particularly the younger girls, one of whom she noticed was injured prior to her joining the group.

She managed to climb up to the upper floors but clearly had problems maintaining her balance. Yet she continued to suggest that another location to search for rations, even going as far as to ask for someone to go with her. It was, quite possibly, a good effort to help the group on her part, but not one Clarissa could approve of, especially in the girlā€™s injured state.

ā€Little girl, that you are looking to help the group is splendid, but to do so in your current state is foolish. Right now, we should have enough to feed everyone for tonight, my rations, Naddelā€™s and whatever he finds should be sufficient for the time being. We can continue our search for more rations tomorrow when youā€™re well rested.ā€

Slowly looking from Kumiko to Chinatsu, she added, so to dissuade them.

ā€Just take it easy for tonight at least.ā€

With that, she went back down to the lower floors to check on the others in the group, particularly the other girl. Also, she wanted to make sure the two younger girls were not going to sneak out in a rash attempt to help the group. She arrived just as the younger girl spoke catching just the right words that immediately aroused her interest. For a brief moment, Clarissaā€™s eyes widened as she approached the girl.

ā€Youā€¦ May I ask your name?ā€ Clarissa did not think much of it then, but now she could not deny it.

The ā€˜touch of magicā€™ that she had saw earlier; that had been no imagination on her part. This girl may well know magic, and going by her words, she does not yet know how to use it consciously. Her awkwardness being with a younger stranger faded. Curiosity filled her mind as she stared at the girl intently, wondering just how much potential she has with magic.

Chinatsu grabs her bag. The thought of getting food, real food, is most appealing. Naddel's apples are a nice idea, but if Kumiko knows where real food is, she's ready. Her enthusiasm is curbed by the woman's words. Chinatsu is in perfect shape to go scavenging, but Kumiko really isn't. She is right. They are better off waiting until Kumiko is healthier.
Chinatsu giggles, "I guess my grandmother was right. Age comes wisdom." She stops and thinks about it, "I think that's how it goes." She shakes her head. "No matter."
Obeying the woman, she sets her bag down and sits next to Kumiko. She watches the woman move over to Hui-gyeong. "I guess it's you and me." she says checking Kumiko's back and arm, "It does look kind of ugly. Maybe she is right. You just got send flying by that thing. Best to be smart and wait it out. I didn't survive this long by doing dumb things."
Chinatsu blushes, "Sorry. I'm rambling. I just haven't got to talk to anyone in a long time. I think we might have some things in common. We're the youngest here. We're girls. We've survived on our own. Tell me about you and I'll tell you about me, 'kay?"

"Great." Kumiko says silently. "The woman thinks she's my mother or doctor." Kumiko tries to get up, the pain in her shoulder and back, slow her. When Chinatsu sides with the woman, Kumiko gives up. "Hui-gyeong will be no help. The gods of darkness know she can barely help herself."
"It does look kind of ugly. Maybe she is right. You just got send flying by that thing. Best to be smart and wait it out. I didn't survive this long by doing dumb things." She knows Chinatsu is right, and the woman is too. Kumiko lays back and listens to Chinatsu ramble. She laughs a little when Chinatsu admits she's rambling. She likes Chinatsu and agrees with her. They are alike. They're young, they're girls and if Chinatsu's been on the road as long as she has, then it's amazing she's still alive too.

"I don't know what to say." Kumiko admits. "I'm from Caul Hollow. A backward, dirt hole with the most ignorant people you'll ever meet. I've been on my own for awhile. Not much else to tell." she lies. She has a lot more she could tell, but the new woman, the magic girl who doesn't know she can do magic and the males, she'd prefer saying nothing to Chinatsu until they're more alone. "Oh, waut. Yes. Yes there is more. I know where REAL food is." she complains

"Hui-gyeong." she says rising slowly from her resting place, taking a moment to steady. "Sorry." Hui-gyeong laughed. "I'm a little off right now. Not feeling well. It's a long story." she apologizes. She stands pondering what to say for a few minutes then gives up, "Never mind. It's not important."

Hui-gyeong eyes the woman trying to get gauge her, while at the same time not being too obvious about it. She doesn't want to offend the woman by acting suspicious. Though, everyone probably is suspicious of anyone they meet new. Hui-gyeong is as well, just not as much as most. She's grateful for anyone that can help, even if the help is of little value. Another person to talk to, to help fight, to help find food, anything! It's all better than nothing. She's tired of being alone, having to make do with what she can find, hoping not to get robbed, beaten or accosted by men. Hui-gyeong just wants a little certainty in her life.

The woman seems like a steady person, a strong person, a person who thinks, isn't impulsive. The group needs someone like her, some one who allows their intellect to guide them. Hui-gyeong likes and appreciates Kumiko and Naddel. Naddel isn't the smartest and most adept person she's ever met, but he tries, he looks out for others. Kumiko is brave and resourceful, but she's rash and easily influenced by her emotions, so much so, she nearly got killed.
Chinatsu... she doesn't know yet. Chinatsu seems knowledgeable. Not book smart, but intelligence that comes from constantly seeing the world around her, recognizing things and remembering them. She seems a jack of all trades type; she knows a little about a lot of things. She's a survivor. But, she's not a leader. Too young, too immature and too agreeable.
As to Ike, if he was the strange person outside the door that Naddel and Kumiko mentioned yesterday, then he's too unpredictable, too odd to lead the group. He doesn't act like a leader or someone important. Yet, there's also something unique about him that Hui-gyeong can't pinpoint.

Looking around at the members that are in the room and thinking about Naddel she realizes the group needs someone rational, steady, mature and strong-willed in the group and this woman is the only person who is all of those. She seems to be the glue that would keep everyone together and alive.

"Don't worry about it, please take your time," Clarissa says as the girl got off from her resting place. The girl, Hui-Gyeong, as she introduced herself, looked so weary that Clarissa felt somewhat sympathetic to her plight. In her short time here, despite not having spoken to everyone, it seemed rather clear that no one here was well acquainted with each other. By deduction then, it seemed reasonable to believe they had just met each other recently. It got Clarissa wondering how long had they been in Avalon. Admittedly though, she was not interested to know that, so she kept that question to herself, pushing the curious thought to the back of her mind. Instead, she looked at Hui-Gyeong curiously.

This was the girl that had earlier caught her attention. Her mind continued in its curious inwardly-directed questioning as she stared at the girl, as if the answers to her questions would reveal itself. She began to think back to her own past, when she was that little girl with the 'touch of magic'. Those were easy times when she would freely experiment with magic of different form and kind. With her imagination, nothing was impossible. If she wanted some beautiful sparks, she had it. If she wanted some water, she had it. If she wanted some gentle breeze, she had it.

And right before her now, was a chance to allow someone else to experience this joyful period of time. However, as she thought about that, she also realized that she had never taught anyone anything in her entire life. Moreover, even magic was a subject that she had to teach herself. Exacerbated by the current situation, where it was a greater priority to use magic for the purpose of survival, not idle pleasantries and merry-making. For a moment, Clarissa was greatly tempted to swear at the state of things in Avalon. She would have, if not for her habit of censoring her own thoughts.

"Well, Hui-Gyeong, was it? That long story... I believe we have the time right now, perhaps you may want to speak about it, if you're comfortable with sharing?"

Clarissa was raring to get on to the topic about magic, and Hui-Gyeong's thoughts and experience with it, but it did not seem too polite to interrupt the girl now that she asked a question. Instead, she hoped that whatever the girl would go on to share would have enough relevance to magic so that Clarissa could subtly steer the conversational topic in that direction without being too awkward.

"I don't know." Hui-gyeong answers nervously shifting from side-to-side. She's afraid of sounding stupid, but doesn't want to just stand silently and look dumb as well.
"I don't..." she stops herself, realizing she's just said that. "I... ummm... I feel tired and a little sick. It happens sometimes." she stops and waits half-hoping the woman interrupts. "Well, it's kinda... When my dji... when the wind comes or the fog, I feel sick and tired and..."
"Wait! Stop!" Hui-gyeong pauses to collect her thoughts. Right now she's confusing herself, she can only imagine what the woman is thinking. "Sometimes when I'm in trouble a fog or a wind appears, sometimes both. Any how, when it does, after it goes away, I feel sick or dizzy or confused, sometimes for a few days. I always thought it was a djinn... you know a protector spirit that made it happen. But, Chinatsu thinks that it's me. She says it's an... uhhhh... an elemental magic thing. That I have Air Magic."
Hui-gyeong stops and contemplates that thought. It now sounds ludicrous to her. "Never mind. She's probably wrong." Hui-gyeong lowers back to the bed. "I mean, ME, doing magic. Never happen."

The belief that it's not her is more disappointing than it has ever been. For a few brief hours she believed she could have been someone special, someone with real powers. But that hope dwindles when she contemplates what kind of ability it would take to be a real wizard, even a mere apprentice.

This was kind of dizzying for him; people where talking, but nothing was for him. They were talking, again and again, and there wasnā€™t anything that he could ask of say for them. He was a stranger among them, some kind of narrator that could tell what happened. He stayed silent, in his corner, wanting to help the one who proposed to raid for some food. He was about to join them, but he remained silent. He was a guy among the males, and his mouth was close to discussion. Then he looked outside; where was he really? He thought, of course, he was in Avalon. However, was it Avalon, or just a wasteland of corpse cursed under the unknown enemies? It was also strange. He was, however, a survivor, from this apocalypse that scratched the life of multiple people among, or if one could say, everyone. He looked back at the group of people, whom where still discussing about things he didnā€™t want to interfere, and just reposed his back on a wall, leaning. He crossed his arms, as he closed his sociality.

Shy, he was shy, but not in the cute way, but in the unsocial and harsh way. He just wished that he never said to get out of where he was, since, after all, he preferred to stay inside of the borders, that is, if there was any. Those people, the ones that was with him, was also strangers to his mind. Even if they have said their name, he couldnā€™t make his mind up to was factual. Should he let them be strangers? Or should he tries to talk with them, without any fear? No, he feared. He couldnā€™t say he wasnā€™t happy that there was people with him, but he couldnā€™t say either that he likes their presence either. Gray. Ike shook his head; of course he liked them to be there, to at least know that he wasnā€™t the last one, that there a place beyond Avalon. However, what that place might look like? Is there any difference or resemblance to his place? He couldnā€™t know, he doesnā€™t know. For now, that is. He only let them discuss about their things, listening carefully in his shadow, arm crossed, mouth closed, sword sheathed.

Then something else came to his mind; that guy. Where was he? Is he dead? Was it his fault, or someone else? What was that thing? He shook his head, and suddenly he started to move on his own, like he did before, down the stairs, running outside of the window, sliding down the wall. He wasnā€™t sure what he was doing, but he wished to find that guy, and he felt that he could be out somewhere. If so, he wish, that guy would stay with him. It is, after all, the only person on which he fully trusted. He seems to be a good person, and might have saved him when he faded out. ā€˜Butā€¦.what happened before?ā€™ Ike thought to himself. It was blank. Most recently, it was yesterday, the day before all of this happened. And now, he was living this living dead. However, why? What was so special about him that let him survive? Did the enemies know that he was still there? Maybe, but then he rememberā€¦ that flashback he had recently. Who was it? Why it occurred to him? He didnā€™t know, but want to know what it was really. 'Who gave it to meā€¦?' he thought to himself as he ran away from the strangers he encountered. His mind was sealed on his thinking.

Clarissa was patient, listening intently as the girl struggled to vocalize her thoughts. She seemed very hesitant about herself, speaking with a lot of pauses and apparent self-doubt. In a way, it annoyed Clarissa somewhat, for it used to be how she was when she was the girl's age. Too much hesitation, too much doubt; it made her weaker until she finally lifted those restraints on herself. That, however, was a story left to another time. Yet it was likely one that would be revisited in time, considering how Hui-Gyeong's situation seem to mirror hers. Clarissa was no religious believer, but for once, the existence of a higher power did not seem so distant.

The only issue she had was the girl's reference to a 'Djinn', as she called it. In her experience, she has never relied on any elemental spirits for aid with her usage of magic. It had always been pure willpower, bending the elements to her will, and only her will. So the idea of invoking the aid of an elemental spirit seemed rather hard to believe, but Clarissa chose not to deny the possibility. Still, hearing the opinion of the other girl - Chinatsu, apparently - re-affirmed her beliefs about this matter.

"From what I gather about your story... You can do magic," Clarissa said, her arms folded as she stared the girl top to toe. "Those phenomenons that you described do not simply happen for no reason. You invoked them... I am hesitant to agree with your ideas about a Djinn... But I will not deny that possibility."

"You can do magic... And I can teach you... Now the only question is: will you learn magic from me?"

Clarissa has never been the type of nurturing person that would fit the role of a teacher, but this was one case she could not let up simply because of her lack of experience. Perhaps if they left this dreaded monster-filled place, she could find a proper magical academy of some kind. Until then, the potential in this girl that she had seen was not something Clarissa can ignore. She chose to help develop it so that perhaps the girl can become stronger. Strong enough to protect herself in this harsh world, which as Clarissa has learned, was not at all forgiving towards the weak.
