Well, things seemed to be going smoothly so far. Everyone was talking and discussing among one another, and despite Laurence's air to him, he didn't seem to be acting on it. At least, not externally anyway. Yohan knew better right now than to give Laurence an excuse to look down on him further, especially after all that happened to him five years ago. Charles looked content at how the meeting was going, this made Yohan glad after everything they all went through five years ago. That's when Kage entered into the room and well, his first impression brought about a blunt force of reality over everyone.
Yohan lowered down a little in his seat, while Charles got a worried expression as his eyes shifted from Kage to Laurence. Laurence sat there in silence, the top half of his face covered in shadows as he took a long inhale from his pipe before slowly blowing out a large amount of smoke. Charles decided it was better to intervene now before this went further. "Laurence, please, do not punish the boy severely." Laurence leaned forward to reveal his eyes as they were surprisingly closed. When they opened, however, that's when things took a turn.
"Mr. Sanders." Laurence started off, his tone calm and his voice sounding low, but loud enough for everyone to hear. "I do not make assumptions out of you, so I would appreciate returning the same gesture to me and everyone else here. That being said, I will not condone such vulgar in front of important guests. As one of the pilots of Avalon, you have a duty where others look upon you for. Our guest from Odessian will be one such person. This is the only warning you will be given. Charles, settle things to him quickly since it looks like everyone is arriving here quickly." Laurence gestures to the mechanic that had just arrived before pulling back in his seat to take some smoke from his pipe.
"Thank you, Laurence." Charles bowed his head for a moment before raising it up and giving Kage a stern look. "As you just heard, you will only be given that one warning. Should you cause anymore trouble from here, I will have no choice but to enforce action upon you. I apologize for the disruption everyone, please, have a seat. I would also like to welcome our new guests, you will all get a chance to introduce each other properly soon. But since me and Laurence are running on low time and must leave you all here in a few, we wish to get our parts done with so that we do not hold others up while waiting for us." Charles nods to Laurence to let him speak.
"I am not going to lie to you all, I have reason for summoning people together like we have now. This room is but one group of many we will be visiting today. You are not the first, nor will you be the last. Big changes are coming, these changes will change both countries in ways we hope will be positive." Laurence took a moment to smoke before continuing on. "Pilots from both countries will have a chance to show us what they've got. However, we have noticed a rapid decline in interest in Mecha Units since the war was ended. This is not surprising to me in the slightest, Mecha Units cost a lot more money to simply build than the Corrosive Cavalry Units. Plus, citizens from both countries have become terrified of the Mecha Units, while the Corrosive Cavalry resembles something more familiar and humble to them. You can see where I am going with this."
"To put it bluntly, the people are questioning why we are keeping these costly and terrifying Mecha Units when we have something like the Corrosive Cavalry to fall more on." Charles spoke up with his arms crossed against his chest. "At the rate this is going, Mecha Units will be put under risk. Laurence and I have discussed with Odessian's leader on the most effective way to show Mecha Units have a purpose, even if the incident five years ago didn't help matters. So we all have agreed on holding a special event one week from now." Charles nods again to Laurence.
"All Pilots can do as they wish until next week. Then, we will expect everyone to show up. It would be a great sign for pilots of both countries to appear and cooperate with one another. It will be a true sign that peace is upon us. I will not lie to any of you. You will all be tested, physically and mentally for this. It may be a greater strain than what the war put you through, but it will not be life threatening." Laurence pulled out a card and put it down on the table for everyone to see. It read 'Special Mecha-Cavalry Event next week! Don't miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to see amazing things!'
"A little cheesy, I know." Charles spoke up. "But it will calm and relax the people's minds, we must do all we can to get rid of the bad taste the war has left us all with. Though we must not forget the lessons we have learnt from it. Now, we are leaving all of you here together in order for you all to get to know one another. It is why we are having multiple different groups meeting up today. Now normally that would be it, but Laurence appears to have two things to get off his chest."
"Yes, I do." Laurence rose up and pointed to Darusan. "You will be given a Mecha Unit for this event. If you prove yourself capable, you may be given a chance to come back as a Pilot. You have one week to prepare yourself. As for the mechanic, you will be given a special assignment. We have in our possession a "unique" Mecha you may have seen on the media before. A blue Mecha that people are still talking about to this day. I want you to examine it and check up on it, you will be the first to do so." Charles gives Laurence a look before standing up himself. "I want a report in a week's time on what you discover. And with that, we will leave you all to get to know one another. It doesn't matter if you stay here or move to the mechanic's place or wherever it is you wish to go, as long as you all spend time today with one another. We will see you all in a week." With that said, Laurence and Charles left the meeting room and began to head off to meet up with other pilots.
-~ A few minutes later ~-
"Laurence, I know you suffered five years ago, but it is no reason to take it out on the boy." Charles spoke to Laurence in the vehicle. "His involvement with what happened to your three kids isn't his fault."
"You say that, yet my eldest was meant to become the next Holy Mother. Instead, she gets taken into one of those wicked nine The Organization awakened and who ends up ending her life? Your little vigilante you dug up from some ruins!" Laurence was now intensely smoking his mechanical pipe. "And then what became of my second, my eldest son? Murdered in cold blood! And who was at the center of that incident, hm? Your little savior again! And my poor youngest, my poor boy." Laurence had to stop himself for a moment to calm himself if but a small amount. "Turned to The Organization's side! Dying in the arms of that... Thing of yours!"
"He is not a thing." Charles spoke, having to remind himself that Laurence was not the enemy here. "He is human, even if he has some differences from the rest of us, at his core he is still the young man who was placed in there! I know you are angry, but I will not allow you to throw him to blame for everything that transpired five years ago."
"Really? And what happened to the Avalon base a few days after discovering him and his weird little toy? Destroyed! By The Messenger no less! It was all an omen from the start. And then who just so happened to come out of hiding shortly after this attack? Xelgor and his wicked father! Two of the Cursed Bloodline the Council warned us about!" Laurence turned his cold gaze to Charles. "Say what you will, but from the start, I say the warning signs being given off about him. How much does he still hide from us, even now? Just what is his connection to the Cursed Bloodline?! If he doesn't wish to come clean, I'll dig up the answers myself!"
"The Cursed Bloodline died five years ago with Xelgor." Charles responded. "The war died with him. There is nothing more to suspect, Laurence!"
"Oh no?" Laurence pulled out a card, the back of it was white with a strange hand-print on it. Charles felt something come up in his chest, a familiar feeling of dread as Laurence turned the card around to show him the front with a red background and a wicked 'Z' symbol on the front of it. "This was sent to us a few days ago. It's just like the calling card five years ago. You say it's over, but someone out there says otherwise. We haven't seen any signs of rogue activity in five years, so you know what that means."
"While it may be possible that there is a last Organization member, it is also possible this is a prank Laurence. No matter how real it looks, it doesn't mean there is a chance another incident will occur."
"With what you told me is about to happen soon, Charles? I am fully prepared for another incident to rise up."
