Introduction
12 years ago the world changed when a demon lord tore a rift between worlds and launched an all out attack attacked on the city of Haven. Taken by surprise humanity was forced to acknowledge the existence of demons and the supernatural. Meanwhile the demon lord took control of a huge part of the city. The first battles of the war were easily won by the demons, but eventually the people of Haven started to push back.
In a final massive struggle humanity triumphed and killed the demon lord. However, as he died he cast a curse, corrupting the city with his power. The rift closed as thick red rain poured from the sky. The surviving demons fled to the darkest holes and corners of the city, but they remained.
Not long after the effects of the curse became evident. Animals and plant life became twisted and often dangerous. Some humans also began to develop paranormal abilities. These humans became feared for their frightening powers and their tendencies to lose control.
So that's when you come in. You are a citizen for modern day Haven. The city is still being rebuilt and paranoia is everywhere. Armed forces patrol the streets for demons and corrupted animals. The number of corrupted humans is on the rise, as is the number of them that lose control.
So what will you do? Will you join the police department or Haven Office of Demon Affairs and try to restore order? Will you make a profit off the chaos as a demon hunter?
Or perhaps you're a part of Haven's Curse, one of the poor souls corrupted by demonic power. What about you? Will you stand with humanity or take the city for your own kind?
Corrupted Humans
These people have developed supernatural abilities as a result of Haven's Curse. They are classified as stable and unstable. A stable person is usually in full control of his/her abilities but is far weaker than one who is unstable. Unstable people on the other hand frequently lose control of their abilities, their powers grow and continue to grow rapidly in strength, on top of this they are prone to going insane. A stable person can become unstable when put under extreme stress although some people are unstable from the moment their powers start to develop. They are referred to by many as "Freaks" and are meant to register with the Haven Office of Demon Affairs, although many prefer to hide their nature.
Demon Hunters
Many humans can’t wait for the H.O.D.A. to track down certain demons and will pay money to anyone that can. Demon hunting is illegal because it's so dangerous and because some hunt demons for demonic substances like demon blood. Some hunters will also target corrupted humans, for the right price.
H.O.D.A.
The Haven Office of Demon Affairs is responsible for cleansing the city of Demons. They research demons, the corrupted and all things related to Haven's curse. They also monitor and regulate registered corrupted humans. Rumors claim that they preform illegal experiments on corrupted humans, but those are just rumors... right?
Demons
Demons are split into two classes, lesser and higher.
Lesser: These are mainly monstrous mixes of animals that can sometimes possess paranormal powers. They are very similar to corrupted animals, except they are usually more powerful and more intelligent.
Higher: These are very rare. They are at least as smart as humans and can have humanoid forms (although not always). They are capable of using powerful supernatural abilities and commanding lesser demons.

To get things started I decided to add a few characters. Fill free to use them along with your own characters. You can use one if you want but please PM me first.
- Sweeney McCarthy - the overweight, middle aged owner of McCarthy's pub
- Elizabeth Ross aka Liz - a young police officer at the Haven Police Department. She is corrupted but stable, with the ability to force anyone she touches to tell the truth.
- Jacob Flynn - A demon hunter in his early twenties. He is aggressive and holds a bitter resentment towards corrupted humans, due to an incident 2 years ago involving one of them and his girlfriend, Elaine Baker. Elaine is now in a coma at Haven General Hospital.
- Elaine Baker - A young women currently in a coma at Haven General Hospital. She is corrupted but stable and holds the ability to enter the dreams of others. Her abilities only manifested after she fell into the coma.
- Darren Erickson - The supposed leader of the H.O.D.A. He is however a mere figurehead nothing more.
Keith Moore - Headmaster of Haven Public High school. He is currently involved in a deal with a demon called Lethe which is feeding off the memories of his students. - Harper Lin - A quite, shy and somewhat fragile, high school student. Her powers have skyrocketed to the point were she can bring a person back from the brink of death. However, her powers now have a dangerous flip side, she can cause the internal organs of anyone within a 3 meter radius to fail instantly. She is currently locked away by the H.O.D.A.

Kat looked at Cato " thankyou very muc, I shall check that out" than she thought for a moment " wait what do you mean he got eaten.... " she asked with her heart start racing " what ate them.. was... was it a demon? " Kat had a fear of them sence childhood and never gotten over it. When she grped her cup her hand begain to shake "are you sure they got eaten?" she asked before he had a chance to answer her first question.
The setting changes from Haven City to The Plaza
The girl's eye's widened with fear, maybe he shouldn't have mentioned the getting eaten part, then again if she got the job she'd find out anyway. "Well, yeah it was probably demons" he started "this is Haven after all. I don't know much about it but there was an incident a few months back, I think a higher demon might have built its nest in one of the old dorms" he paused for a moment "it's gone by now, but there were fatalities..." It had been hard to find any information on that particular story, it was obviously bad publicity for HCU and they didn't want it to be spread around, but the students still knew and one had been kind enough to the leak to story onto the internet, where Cato found it.
Cato yawned, he'd almost reached his limit, he should have slept when he dropped off his bags at the dorms. He hoped his new roommate didn't look through any of them, his demon obsession was pretty obvious. "I'm gonna head home" he yawned again. He pulled a pen out of his pocket and scrawled some digits on a napkin, "here's my number, call it if you need any help." It wasn't much, he knew that, but she just seemed so helpless and this was the best he could do. "My name's Cato by the way, Cato Evans."
Cato yawned, he'd almost reached his limit, he should have slept when he dropped off his bags at the dorms. He hoped his new roommate didn't look through any of them, his demon obsession was pretty obvious. "I'm gonna head home" he yawned again. " Its very nice to you.. yes we both should get going" Kat sat up and payed for her drink, shoved the numbers that she had gotten in her pocket and walked back over to Cato " well thanks for all the help I hope that we meet again " she added before she lefted the cafe. Kat walked around the Plaza a bit more before she noticed that a man was following her " That demon hunter jinxed me " she muttered to her self as she turned a corner in to a ally way that seemed to be a dead end.

Out of the corner of his eye Arron caught a glimpse of a blond blur dashing into an alley followed by a taller, older man. He stopped in his tracks and watched through the crowd, waiting curiously for one of them to emerge. For just a moment he looked away and towards the cafe he had been heading towards. Whilst looking in this direction he inhaled some smoke then took a deeper breath before pulling the cigarette from between his lips and blowing a ring of smoke into the air. He hid a smile as he popped the cigarette back in between his lips, turning back to the alley he was so curious about.
After a minute or so had passed and several strangers had bumped into Arron he saw a girl leave the alley. He half expected the man to follow after her but was surprised when he didn't. At this point Arron began to make his way over to the alley, his expressions showing he was somewhat concerned and this facial feature didn't change at all. Even when he was walking past the blonde girl on the way to the alley and took the chance to take a look at her face his expression was the same, brow furrowed slightly. Cato sluggishly made his way out of the cafe, that coffee hadn't done its job. He took two wrong turns before doubling back and finding the subway. He was barely awake by the time he reached the dorms. He trekked up the stairs to his room. Someone was already inside, it was time to meet his new roommate. Cato groaned he wasn't in the mood for introductions. He jammed his key into the door and the lock clicked open.
"Hi I'm Cato" he mumbled as he dragged himself through the door, "I guess we're roommates so..." He finally got a look at his "new roommate". Standing in the center of the room was the hunter from before. Cato stared him down, "this isn't happening".

"Oh hey kid, guess your the new guy," he lays in his bed and continues talking,"Lets set some ground rules shall we. First and most important what happens in the room stays in the room, next don't touch my sword. I know shes pretty but Scarlet is my girl got that. Finally were roommates which means we need to have at least 80% trust in each other. So here we go."
Will snaps his fingers and a small white flame forms in his hand. He makes it dance around the room before having it land in Cato's hand. "I call it the righteous flame. It took a while to master this but its useful. It only hurts evil creatures and that includes humans. To tell you the truth that flame would have completely incinerated you like my last two roommates, but you passed so welcome."

Cato took a step back, he wasn't sure what was more surprising the white flames or the fact the hunter hadn't tried to kill him yet. "So, I take it you already know about my secret" it wasn't a question, he doubted Will would show off like that without leverage. His shadow, now pitch black, twitched excitedly, he was ready ready for a fight while his instincts screamed at him to run. But Cato's curiosity was overpowering, that white flame was mesmerizing and Will obviously knew a few things about demons. He could almost look past the fact that Will had incinerated his last two roommates.
Cato kicked his shoes off and yawned, he walked over to a pile of bags, opened the largest one and pulled out a pack of instant ramen. "Okay, so we're roommates then" he said rummaging through the bag, "Just a warning, if you do try hunting me or any of that bull, my shadow will choke you to death." He pulled out another package of instant ramen, "you want any?"
Cato kicked his shoes off and yawned, he walked over to a pile of bags, opened the largest one and pulled out a pack of instant ramen. "Hell yeah, i love ramen," Will jumps up and grabs the pack from Cato, "by the way i had no idea you were like me, and i think your mixing me up with those assholes down at the pub. I'm more of a vigilant of justice, you can call me batman." Will lets out a laugh and finishes his ramen," Maybe you'd like to accompany me on my next job? it pays well and it gives me a chance to study the demons a but better than any book can teach you." Will points to some books on the floor from the box he had kicked over earlier. "And of course if you like the work your welcome to join me anytime its a bit lonely hunting well alone." Will laughs again and lays back on his bed. "So what will it be Cato?"
After waiting patiently for her tea, Jane finally received her beverage and headed off. She walked through the dark streets, taking a couple of dark turns. She couldn't deny using her powers to light her way through some of the darker areas, thank the heavens no one had seen her. Or so she hoped.
Once arriving at her dorms, she looked around. The other bed was made neatly, maybe her roommate had gone out.. Or moved out today. She did mention something about the dorm during class, yet the bell had made it hard to hear with all the other students scrambling to get out of class. She sighed and slipped off the messenger bag, setting it on her computer desk along with her drink. She laid back, murmuring quiet lyrics to a common song. She should probably study, but the bed was so comfortable! Maybe a few minutes...

"I'll take you up on that" he said to Will "but don't think I'm gonna get into the business. I've got a demonology course starting Monday and that takes priority." Hunting demons would be a dangerous hobby, but Cato supposed he'd be better suited than most people. Still, if the H.O.D.A. ever got a hold of him... he didn't want to think about it, unregistered and a demon hunter on top of that... it wouldn't end well.
"I'm beat" yawned Cato more to himself than to Will and lumbered off to bed. He supposed there was still a chance of Will trying to kill him, oh well, he'd just have to wake up before he did any critical damage.

William wakes and looks at the clock,"Damn late again" he grabs his bags and heads off slamming the door behind him. Advanced science is shown next to the door he now stand in front of. He opens the door slowly and sneaks his way to the back of class.
"Late again i see mister Hawkeye." the professor says as he writes on the board.
"Yeah sorry sir, i was helping some old lady cross the street and lost track of time."
"im sure you did, now class as i was saying when this liquid is heated it lets off an scent that will render any person or creature unconscious for about 2 to 4 hours."
Ved smiles with delight thinking to himself" Ill just borrow some of that, it can definitely help later."
After class Ved swipes a few vials of the liquid and heads back to his dorm.
"Late again i see mister Hawkeye." the professor says as he writes on the board.

" you have a impressive resume... I see you have a miner degree in demonology, a maters degree in wildlife biology" the man looks up at her you more suited for teaching and for guard duty.... are you sure that you want this job " the man asked
" yes... yes I am " Kat said taking a deep breath

The setting changes from Haven City University to McCarthy’s Pub
Arron dragged himself into the pub and without giving even a thought to his surroundings sat himself down on a stool at the bar. He called over the bartender and ordered a drink, thinking back to yesterdays events whilst waiting. He had found the man in the alley and after checking him over realized who he was, he remembered the mans face from a while back as he had been in the hospital several time. He was a low-life demon hunter whom had little to no talent in his profession. This was why that upon realizing this mans identity Arron was quick to flee the scene. There hadn't been all to much to be concerned about, The man was just asleep and when he woke up he would be able to take care of himself, no need to intervene.
After that he made his way to the cafe only to realize that the clock he had checked on the way to the plaza had been slow. So slow in fact that rather than having a few hours before work Arron had little under twenty minutes to get there. When this dawned upon him he quite literally jumped out his seat and knocked over several people as he sprinted through the plaza, towards his workplace. Nothing really exciting happened at his work, his boss had a rant at him for several hours and then he went on to do his duties. As a part time nurse most of Arron's duties included tending to patients needs, cleaning equipment, check ups and generally anything the doctors didn't want to do. By the time all these duties had been completed the night had passed and the sun was rising, signalling a new day for most of the residents of the city.
It was then that his little flashback was interrupted as because Arron was so caught up in his own little daydream he was somewhat surprised when a glass on beer skid across the table and toppled over his arm, spilling its contents all over himself and the counter. This shock yanked him back to reality and following a quick apology towards the bartender for making a mess Arron headed into the mens toilets to clean himself up.
After that he made his way to the cafe only to realize that the clock he had checked on the way to the plaza had been slow. Cato excitedly scribbled down notes as the lecturer for demon history discussed the first appearance of the demon lord. He'd done his research and read every article he could get his hands on, but still, even on the first day he was finding new information. Cato stole a quick glance at his classmates who looked both bored and confused, I guess this class wasn't for everyone. Most of the people here, provide the graduated, would end up working for the H.O.D.A. He'd have to be extremely careful, yesterday he revealed his power to one person and more than hinted at it to another, mistakes like that could end with him being lobotomized. Cato shuddered and returned to his notes, that wouldn't happen, he could keep his head down.
Anyway, things were going well so far, when he'd woken up his head was still attached to his body and he'd even made it out the door without any awkward conversation with Will. The introduction and icebreaker games were mercifully short and soon he was knee deep in demon history, mythology, anatomy, and even culture. For now he was happy and relatively safe, as long as he remained alert he was confident he could stay that way. Then again this was Haven....

As class ended, she slung her bag around her shoulder, wandering around the school grounds. Next thing she knows, she sees that same shady guy and that frantic girl she had seen at the cafe. She raised an eyebrow, were they students? Or was there something going on? She shrugged it off, contact may lead suspicions, if so, she didn't want to raise any thing. It was the result of his failed attempt at cleaning himself up after spilling the beer on himself and he hadn't felt much at all when he left the bathroom. It had only been when Arron had finished a pint of beer, payed for anything he'd drank or broken and had made it halfway to his destination that the feeling has arose. Fortunately Arron had such misfortunes cast upon him before and ,though rather annoying, such a trivial matter was not priority. There was something much more important than this he needed to do.
That something was a chore which Arron had assigned to himself upon his departure from his camp site out of the city a week or so ago. He had to buy more food, most of it had to be canned or frozen so it would last longer and what made this task so difficult was Arron's budget. As a part time nurse he was hardly paid much and with the amount he spent on smokes alone he was already pretty low on cash. This was why the first place Arron usually checked for supplies was the plaza, there were a few shops around there that sold the things he needed for cheap.
Upon arriving at the plaza Arron took a moment to look around. From the looks of things it seed as though It was slowly getting busier and if he didn't hurry then he would had to cope with the constant chatter, large crowds and possibly worse. Arron didn't particularly like the people in this area of the city, Most of them had their eyes glues to the screens of their phones whilst those whom didn't were gossiping or spreading rumours. Of course these descriptions didn't apply to everyone, just most of them and Arron could help but feel that it was unfair how they were so well treated and pretty much spoilt for doing nothing at all. If there was one thing Arron knew for sure it was during his childhood he wasn't spoilt like most of these kids were.

From the looks of things it seed as though It was slowly getting busier and if he didn't hurry then he would had to cope with the constant chatter, large crowds and possibly worse. Arron didn't particularly like the people in this area of the city, Most of them had their eyes glues to the screens of their phones whilst those whom didn't were gossiping or spreading rumours. Of course these descriptions didn't apply to everyone, just most of them and Arron could help but feel that it was unfair how they were so well treated and pretty much spoilt for doing nothing at all. If there was one thing Arron knew for sure it was during his childhood he wasn't spoilt like most of these kids were.

After class had finished Cato was the last to leave even after the professor. He sat gathering his notes, this was incredible and maybe soon he'd even get to see some demons close up. He'd had the feeling of someone watching him earlier, but it was gone by now. He left the room and began wandering around the college, he wasn't in any rush, it was the last lecture of the day and he hadn't been around long enough to get any assignments or anything.
He stopped before a massive black,withered tree. It looked like it'd been dead for some time. Cato couldn't explain it but there was something about it, something wrong. He stood there staring as if waiting for something to happen, but nothing did. Eventually he turned away and headed back towards the dorms, but he still couldn't shake the feeling of something being "wrong".

Kat smiles as she smells the flower " Thank you and goodbye " She put the flower in her hair and starts to walk off the grounds of the university and back to the plaza. when she got there she was a bit worried that the hunter was around so she put on some sun glasses and a hat on, that she had in her over sized purse that she most always seemed to have with her. " I need to stay out of sight " She went on her way getting all that she needed for her new job.

Arron had only bought one or two of the things he needed for his trip yet the cloth bag he held in his hand was already very heavy. It amazed him as to how much a few canned foods and cleaning supplie could weigh when bundled together like this. Because of the heavy bag Arrons arm was starting to ache, it felt as though his shoulder was about to pop out its socket and so to relieve himself of this pain he decided to set down the bag beside him. He was standing in one of the quieter corners of a super market, looking through their own cheap brand of electrical appliances that consisted mainly of flashlights, lamp, drills and other tools. Though as cheap as this equipment was Arron still couldn't buy it, he didn't see the point in buying things he would just break.

Such a waste of money... He should have known better back then. Fortunately by now he had learned from these mistakes and that's why he didn't buy these sort of things. Cato looked down, guiltily remembering telling Kat about the job. "My shadow... it's a moving substantial thing... that's my power" he muttered, "I never really needed any other weapon... since I became corrupted anyway." He turned away and took a deep breath, he hadn't known that demon was still out there, he'd thought it was safe, he'd was trying to help! Regardless of his intentions he'd put her in danger and the only thing he could do would be to finish things as quickly as possible. He turned back to Will, "if this thing is still out there, why hasn't anyone done anything?"
