Though the exact timespan between the current and the beginning isnβt exactly βclarifiedβ, our survivors have come to acknowledge it has been at least six months in but no more than eight- so perspectives vary depending on whom your character encounters in their travels.
As you might imagine, nature has been taking its toll on uninhabited (or at least uncivilized) locations, the blossoms of wild trees and flowers are beginning to bloom and fungi starting to blanket simple objects. Major cities have been nuked and/or bombed in attempt to eradicate the disease from spreading, but the army's attempts failed. Some cities, however, have been re-colonized and house many survivors- San Francisco being the largest and most dangerous spot. Towns are abandoned and make for a decent place to begin stocking up inventory- though the majority of the good stuff will be gone. Cities, however, are goldmine! If one actually survives getting out of there they might just be one of the "richest" men alive. Guns, ammunition, food, medical supplies, food, some working plumbing, clean water (in the right places), food, camping supplies, food, clothing, many weapons, and did I mention food?
The after-math...
Where would you be without these, huh? If you don't have any yet and are looking into joining, please pay extra attention here. A character is not you, please know this. Even if they are almost exactly like you in every way, you honestly don't know how you would react to zombies or your friend being eaten alive in front of you. You don't, but you can imagine! A character is unique, and requires special care in order to develop into one bad-ass character- even if they are a wimp. I don't mean in the stoic way, I mean just an incredible, relatable character in general! What makes a good character is an even personality and relation to the reader- even the villains. Now having a mental illness that you yourself don't have might be more difficult for you to understand, you can still make it work if you soften those sharp, picky areas that others might notice. But what if you don't want a likeable character? Well, there is a difference between "unlikeable" and "bad". A bad character is mary-sue/gary-stu, a godmoder, super-human yet still human, invincible, bland, etc. etc. etc... I could go on and on! A disliked character, however, is someone who has a personality and viewpoint you discourage and loath, making you hate them.
.
If you don't know what this is, Character Development is how a character changes over time due to their experiences, interactions, and circumstances. In Dead Fingers, or apocalypses in general, your character is guaranteed a good dose of development! You might begin with a bratty character who used to get everything they wanted when they wanted, and if they didn't they'd throw a fit until they got it. They might have been incredibly anti-violence. By the time your character or the story comes to an end, they might just be one of the finest zombie-killing machines, generous, and caring people you might come across in a dreadful world! This is one of the greatest things in roleplay and writing, you age and "level-up" with your character! They become a part of you, and whether or not you kill them off is up to you and their actions.
.
Now here's a vague but interesting subject: What is the story behind all the plights and grief we put our characters into? We could say we just did it in good fun, or wanted to see them suffer, etc. But there might be a bit more to it than that. Dead Fingers consists of two parties, each beginning at a different place on the timeline. One group, the first, was started on the roleplay thread of which this group is continued off of. The other and recently discovered began at the very beginning (the Flash-Back group) of it all. What is the importance behind the flash-back group, you might ask? That is our own little secretβ¦
.
Many see these unfortunate souls to be monstrous, dead animals that seek only to feast and kill, while others believe their loved ones to still be in there somewhere. In truth, no one quite understands the true intentions of the infected. They certainly show qualities of both perspectives, demonstrating their fierce desire to show dominance over others and mutilating those unfortunate enough to cross paths with one. On the other hand, however, many seem to remember the emotions they felt when they were still healthy and often attempt to recreate those by going home, carrying a toy, or even hesitating when recognizing someone they once knew (this is more common in the recently-turned when the brain is still fighting it). Animals are also prone to getting the virus and are no more immune than human beings. Insects and aquatic animals seem unaffected.
The infected are almost inhuman in strength and agility- though they pay for it with their lack of intelligence. Almost as if in a constant state of adrenaline they can run at incredible speeds and distances and overcome many obstacles. How do you kill one, you ask? Depends on how quickly you want to. Shooting for vitals other than the brain will take many shots to actually kill the beast, but a shot to the head should do the job quickly enough.
.
First off, the disease can be acquired by inhalation of too much of their fumes (only a worry if zombies have been enclosed in a space for a long time, allowing build-up) or entering the bloodstream in any way. Symptoms of the virus include increased aggression, high fever, random pupil dilation, muscle spasms and constant hunger. The wound will not close like any ordinary cut and might begin to ooze out dark pus. If you catch it quick enough, however, removal of the limb it was inflected might save your life- so that means if youβre not infected on a limb your good as dead. There is no known cure.

Oh yeah, hey guys. Nice to see us all back together!
"Jamie, we gotta turn around. This is a bad idea, man."
"We're doing things my now. It'll be better. Just wait."
"How are we going to survive on our own? Zach and Kira are probably the only reason I made after you left with the others. I mean, do you even have a plan? What are we going to do with winter here? What happens when we run out of s-"
"I said it'll be better, you fuck! Just wait. Those stupid shits wouldn't let me drive this goddamn jeep! You're not gonna live like that and neither am I! You think I made it by being someone else's bitch? I do what I want and that's why life's good, motherfucker!"
Patrick went silent and looked back at Rose, wondering what she would make of all this. Jamie would get like this sometimes and he doubted that anyone in his group had seen that side yet. Now it had to be obvious to her too that he wasn't group leader material. His thoughts drifted back to what they were going to do to survive. The first thing would probably be to get some clothes for the winter. His jacket wasn't going to cut it. He wished badly to go back in time and tell himself to think about what they were doing when they left, but there was nothing he could do for the time-being. He would have to try and keep this group from getting themselves killed.
"I don't fucking know..." I said watching the whole town go up in smoke. "Shit reminds me of silent hill..." I looked over to see Kira doubled over in pain. Her ribs were getting really bad now. We'd need to get to a surgeon soon, otherwise...well there wasn't gonna be an otherwise. I crouched down next to Kira and helped her to her feet. She was rather spaced out, probably in shock from all that was happening. "Kira? Hey...are you alright?" She nodded but her gaze was totally empty. Connors question kept echoing through my mind...what the fuck were we gonna do? Our shelter was destroyed...hell, this part of the town was overcome by a suffocating blaze. "You know...durango's pretty fucking big...tons of walkers will be drawn to the fire. I say we get out while we can. We can hike up to the highway and find ourselves a jeep or something that will get us through this snow..." the journey went on from there. After a few days of searching through the abandoned chaos of strewn automobiles, we found a suitable Jeep Wagoner with enough fuel to get us to the next state if we wanted. We decided to stay in the top level of a parking garage, in order to keep our distance from the walkers. We had shut down the gates so none could get in. We were safe but not for long...We'd have to leave but we needed to rest first.
It had been a week now, since the fire and we had made camp in the parking garage. We managed to rest pretty well considering our surroundings. But we were running low on supplies. It was around dinner time when I brought this up with Kira and Connor. "Guys...we're running on fumes here...we need to get going...I'm thinking if we head up north east towards Morgan County we'd be able to get supplies and maybe shelter. What do you think? Γ
I looked around the now dark woods as the boy and man screamed and yelled at the top of their lungs. The other members must have scattered after their leader fell because the other cars had vanished and there was no one else in sight. I picked up Justin and put him in the back seat of the ring leader's truck and knowing that I had caused this whole fiasco I put the leader in the bed of the truck. I used my belt and one of his sleeves to slow down the bleeding of the ankle. I wasn't sure how to wrap Justin up so I ripped off the other sleeve of the man and wrapped it all the way around Justin's head as tight as possible. It soaked through quickly so I grabbed a piece of rope from the truck bed and tied it along with a towel to Justin's ear. I then returned to the driver's seat and turned the keys to restart the car. At this point both Justin and the man had shut up most likely to their vocal chords being sore of because of the blood loss. I recalled all that had went down and realized this was all on me. I mean I should've known that those cans belonged to someone. I could've listened to Justin but my stomach decided that I would scare Justin into agreeing with me. This blood was on my hands! Both Justin and the guy. I had no clue where I was driving but I finally got off of the gravel road in the woods and onto the highway. I drove until I saw an exit and pulled off almost immediately. On my way off the ramp I noticed some smoke off in the distance. It was black so I knew whatever it was still was burning. I was cautious of going in that direction but it was my only hope to save these two. I finally discovered a pharmacy and parked the car before running in. I was quick but cautious as I searched for supplies there were three easily dispatched walkers and not much else. I did find a small first-aid kit and took it but it wasn't enough. I then decided to check the prescription stuff. I found some antibiotics and morphine which was all that I could use. I shoved it into my backpack and then checked for food. I found two bottles of water and a jar of pickles left. I then departed the dark store and got back into the truck. I cleaned and wrapped Justin's wound first and then proceeded to wrap the man's wound. They were both out cold but weren't dead. I then slipped both of them some antibiotics and morphine giving them an appropriate dosage based on weight. I continued on until I was getting closer and closer to the smoke plume when suddenly I heard mumbling noises. I slowed to a stop and turned to check on Justin. He was moving around and trying to say something when suddenly he grabbed my arm and pulled me forward. He tried to bite me but I jerked away in time. He had turned! I had just checked him about 10 minutes ago but he must've lost too much blood. He growled and attempted to chew me but I was able to keep him off. I got out of the truck and he followed, staggering around like a cripple. I led him over to an abandoned car and pushed him inside of it. I then closed the door and left him there. I was done with killing people this was the end. I didn't want to kill anything anymore for my own sake. I left him there clawing at the window but he couldn't get out. I then checked the leader but he was still ok maybe because he was bigger and the bleeding was easier to stop. I continued on towards the fire like the idiot I was to see what had happened.

So I'm just a tad confused with the later posts- everyone is headed to Durango? Or are they near/at the city? 'cause I thought Tallara, Luna, and John were the only ones who were headed there looking for Tallara's dad? Meh, maybe my brain is just fuzzled about with everything going on ^^ As of the moment I have nothing to reply to, so I'll sit back and watch.))

Kira:
It's been a month...
It's been a month since her small little group last saw everyone at the farm.
It's been a month...
It's been a month since she's seen the younger teens when they departed in the middle of the night.
It's been a month...
It's been a month since Kira has really had any rest. Every day has been a struggle. Winter is hard.
It's been a month...
It's been a month since she last saw Tallara and Luna... they'd left off with their own little group of misfits on a trek to save or find Tallara's father.
It's been a month...
It's been a month since they were captured by those cannibalistic bandits that tortured her along with others from her old group.
It's been a month...
It's been a month since she last had a full meal.
It's been a month...
Kira curled up in a smaller ball. The air seeping into the abandoned little shack was chilling and it seemed to grip her already shivering body at every chance it could. It was hard to find warmth in the winter. Actually... it was really hard to find anything. Food... shelter... warmth...
... survivors.
The last one made her heart clench. Tears filled her eyes but she blinked them away. Her heart still ached over the loss of so many friends. Whether it be from death or leaving it still made her sad.
She curled over and snuggled herself closer to Zach's warmth. Her body ached from the cold and the lack of food. Her wounds had struggled to heal from the lack of real rest and malnourishment.
She felt him shift in his sleep, sensing her movement, but he drifted back off into sleep.
She longed for a warm fire to sooth the cold and the sadness that seemed to drape over her like the quilt she had pulled up over her neck and part of her face. They couldn't though... fire would attract unwanted attention.
And not just from the undead, which had seemed to become less and less of a problem since the snow began to fall thick and heavy almost a month ago. The undead seemed to sleep... it had been a couple days before she'd actually seen a Walker.
The unwanted attention they had to watch out for was from the living kind. The living and breathing bandits and murderers that seemed to populate the earth now more than just regular survivors...
It would make sense though. To live in this wasteland you had to kill. To live in this wasteland you had to steal. It was every man for themselves, but Kira didn't believe that. She believed you could survive through friendship and hope, but maybe she was just ignorant...
She heard a shift of movement from Zach's other side and knew Conner too was restless. Conner had stuck with her and Zach ever since they met up a month ago... but deep down she wished it was Patrick and Rose.

A farm in the middle of a forest in Durango Colorado. It's owned by Daniel Winters who has taken in a band of survivors. He's got a barn and a fence surrounding the lot. There's a creek and a river nearby and the town of Durango isn't that far off either.

This was a camping resort that some survivors took as refuge for only a night. They were attacked by bandits and it is now taken over by a hoard of zombies. A train track runs by the outside of it and this track will lead to two more destinations.
