Bettina of Mewhaven

A girl whose mother didn???t guess Rumplestiltkin???s name.

0 · 640 views · located in Faecleir

a character in “Faecleir”, as played by Kohananinja

Description

Bettina was a small child, and still is rather short as an adult at an unimpressive 5'4, though she makes up for this with her curvy physic that proves she's not a child. Her hair is a shining gold in color that seems to glimmer almost unnaturally. Her eyes are slightly slanted, and a deep hazel in color that always seem to have a kind of michevious or mocking air to them. She dresses for the occation, which is a fun way to say she's a con woman. She's worn peasent garb, royal gowns, page tunics, and even a monk's robe on occation. when not playing a part however, she's most comfortable in traveling clothes of a more drab coloring, as it is less likly to bring attention to herself.

Personality

Bettina is a bit of a contradiction, as she can swing from almost extreme flamboyance, to a sometimes all-consuming brooding melancholy. Cynical, sarcastic, and at times even possessing an overbearingly smug sense of humor, Bettina can be a hard pill to swallow for most people, which is arguably how she likes it. She has trust issues, and is primarily concerned with taking care of herself, so make no mistake, she doesn't make it a habit of getting involved with other people's problems. She does however, have a soft spot for kids, and is fiercely protective of them, and she would die before she let anything happen to those in the small circle she considers her friends. The quickiest way to end up on her bad side however, is to make Bettina feel confined. Imprisonment of any sort can send her into a tail spin in mindless violence that rarely ends well for the perpetrator.

Equipment

Proficiently Skilled in:

Knife Work (has one on her at all times): A girl has to protect herself somehow.

Conning: "As no questions and be told no lies, it's not my fault people are curious."

Spinning Staw into Gold: Often times more curse than blessing.

Minor Illusion Glamour Spells: Helps her strengthen her disguises and hide her contraband.

History

Before the Miller’s daughter turned queen defeated Rumplestiltkin by guessing his name, the old fey had run a fairly successful child snatching ring by granting wishes to desperate women, particularly those who were peasants. Bettina was one of these first born children. What Rumplestiltkin did with these children once he had them was mostly a mystery, even to Bettina. The old man swore a different story every time she asked; sometimes it was selling them to Ogres, other times to slave mines, and on occasion to a King and Queen far away who desperately wanted a child. For sure though, the Rumplestiltkin kept a few around to take care of his house, or in Bettina’s case, to tutor. Bettina knows little to nothing about her parentage, but as a baby seemed to show an aptitude for magic that delighted the old fey. As a child, he taught Bettina a number of small glamor tricks and illusions, as well as one skill he’d been perfecting at the time; spinning straw into gold. Once, Bettina’s hair was a dark brown color, or at least Rumplestiltkin claimed as much, but once she learned to spin gold with his help it changed into the golden blonde color it is now.

Bettina was only five when Rumplestiltkin disappeared into the floor after his defeat, and soon found herself “rescued” with the other children in the household before being shipped off to an orphanage in Mewhaven run by an old woman with a house that looked remarkably like a shoe. There, in the overcrowded children’s home, she lived for a number of years until the orphanage fell on hard times. Threatened with loosing yet another home, Bettina picked up the spindle once again and began spinning gold. Flabbergasted, the old woman, as old women often do, gossiped with her friends and indeed anyone who would listen about her sudden good fortune. Unfortunately for Bettina, such rumors are never taken lightly in Faecleir, and soon she found herself “taken in” by the local lord who locked her in a tower room of his castle and forced her to spin gold for him. She lived in the tower for five years, and the Lord became extremely wealthy seemingly overnight.

As always, with wealth comes status, and the once petty Lord found himself entertaining royalty, including the Marquis of Carabas and a peculiar talking tabby who walked upright in boots. Ever content to peruse a castle for mice, Puss came across the teenage Bettina’s tower and sympathized with her plight. Sneaking her out of the tower, and with the help of the Marquis (who could quite sympathize as well and was far too indebted to Puss to refuse) dressed her up in fine clothing and claimed she was their guest, and the Marquis’ Lady cousin. The Lord, recognizing Bettina instantly at dinner, flew into a rage, crying that she could not be a Lady as she was none other than the orphan girl he kept in his tower to spin his gold. The Marquis was of course shocked and offended by the accusation and admission, and the King, also offended by the slight to his son in-law, sent the Lord packing to his prison post-hast. He of course confiscated the Lord’s estate and gold as well.

It was from Puss that Bettina learned the value of a well-placed lie and perfectly times con, and she uses these skills quite effectively as a smuggler. Bettina can’t stand to stay in one place for too long, whether because she fears a similar situation with the lord from Mewhaven happening once again, or because she has little attachment to anywhere is hard to say, perhaps both. Her one Companion is the talking Cat ‘Enry who, like his father, is prone to wearing boots. Bettina travels throughout Faecleir working mostly smuggling and con jobs, and generally steers clear of nobles and political disputes, regardless of pay. Nobles can’t be trusted in her mind, and she’d prefer to pull a con to make them look like buffoons than work for them any day of the week. The only exception to this is when she visits the Marquis, as she still plays the role of the Lady Quinn when in Carabas.

So begins...

“Spindlewas ‘as fallen to Contalabutte, the speed ‘e iz expanding into lands iz concerning.” A small black figure intoned in a troubled manner as he approached Bettina of Mewhaven who was currently quite contentedly eating a bit of bread and cheese for her lunch from her perch on a log. The clearing was a surprisingly sunny and cheerful break from the often bleak and oppressing feel to the forests of Effledus, where the pair currently resided. ‘Enry, the youngest of the 23 kittens the infamous Puss in Boots had sired, was rather unlike his more boisterous siblings. While the others were a variety of their fathers classic tabby, ‘Enry was midnight black with earnest blue eyes. He was also a bit smaller than the average cat in Mewhaven, which was a point the pair had boned over a bit. ‘Enry was also prone to incessant worrying, and while it gave the little cat a good head for business, it left Bettina rolling her eyes on more than one occasion.

“Boo hoo. “ Bettina replied indifferently, hardly pausing to relay the remark as she continued eating her lunch. It was fine goat cheese and good hearty wheat bread, not the questionable fae fare they’d tried to pass onto her here. Fae, for all their gripping regarding humans, could swindle with the best of them, and were usually quite proud of their ability to do so. No matter how good Fae food looked, it was always glamoured, and it was often a gamble whether or not your bread was made from wheat, or acorn paste and vines. She also wasn’t fool enough to eat the fruit here, it was the quickest way she knew how to indebt yourself to a fairy, and that was never a good thing. Sometimes they wanted your crops, other times your maiden daughters, and others just wanted your first born child. It was hard to say with Fae, they varied too much. Anyhow, she was relishing her good luck and good food while she could, and was in no mood to talk politics.

“Witches in the Empire buy pixie dust and Rowan fruit as much as anywhere else. It’s not my problem if the royals of Spindlewas can’t fend for themselves.” She bit back after her cheese was gone.

“What, ’ow can you be so unconcerned about thiz?! Would you shrug so freely if it was Carabas ‘e marched on?!” ‘Enry exclaimed angrily. Bettina was his closest friend, but sometimes her indifference bordered on cruelty in his mind.

“If the Emperor, or anyone else for that matter, marched on Carabas, I would burn every village in his possession between us to the ground and strangle him to death with my bare hands.” Some such statements might be taken as boastful nonsense from other people, but the rather blunt statement came out so matter of factly that it chilled ‘Enry a bit to hear.

“Spindlewas was weak, and the people discontent. It was ready for the taking and the empire took that opportunity. There’s no reason to believe it’s ready to expand outward from there or if they even can until they fully gain control over and settle Spindlewas.” ‘Enry wanted to argue with that ludicrous statement, but the conversation was cut short when Bettina climbed off her log and began walking down the path once more. He knew Bettina well enough to know she didn’t want to get involved with this sort of thing. At the end of the day, it was only a power struggle between royalty, though ‘Enry saw it differently, he understood her resentments toward that class and her general mistrust. The little cat sighed, pushing his tiny spectacles up his nose as he hurried to catch up with his friend. They would make it to the capital soon, so it would be wise to try and get into character. This sort of thing did not come as easily to him as it did Bettina or his father.

Traditionally, glamour was an illusion magic that was exclusive to fae, though it was not completely unheard of for certain skilled sorcerers to learn how do use it under a fae’s tutelage. Bettina herself was not fae, nor did she claim to be particularly good at magic, much less skilled, but she had always had a talent for glamour. It didn’t take a genius to figure out she’d been touched by a fae, or infected by one’s magic, the feel of fae magic on her had always been potent. She could only assume of course that it had been Rumplestiltskin’s doing, after all it had been he who taught her how to use glamour in the first place, but there was no real way in her power of knowing for sure. Glamour had always been useful to Bettina, even as a little girl. In the orphanage, she’d make images of woodland creatures dance on the wall for their amusement, or whenever they were cold she’d conjure an image of a fire place to give them comfort, even if it didn’t actually make the room any warmer. As an adult however, Bettina had found a far more practical use for her talents; disguise.

With a travelers cloak, and naturally small stature already lending credence to her role, it was a small thing to place a glamour upon herself to make her look like a fae. Bettina gave herself a nice olive green tone to her skin, round chocolate colored eyes, pointed ears, and wavy black hair, all pretty, all obviously a glamour. It was actually rather common for older fae to place glamour upon themselves to make themselves appear younger or more beautiful. Bettina couldn’t hide from a fae she was under glamour, the trick was to make them think she was a crone. And as glamour was a magic almost exclusively fae, well who would logically think she was human? Luckily as ‘Enry was a talking cat, and such animals were welcomed in Effledus, he both lent credence to her disguise and required none himself. It really did work quite nicely.

The market place in the capital of Effledus was really not that expensive. Pixie dust and Rowan fruit (both common and necessary ingredients in many potions brewed by witches or wizards alike) were almost comically cheap here, and there was a supplier at almost every corner. Outside of Effledus however, those products were both hard to come by, and outrageously overpriced. Most people were forced to put up with it however, as the only legitimate merchants in the game were fae, and they knew quite well they controlled the supply. That’s what made Bettina’s smuggling business so successful; she could sell her stock at half price and still make a tidy profit. She and ‘Enry had already purchased a few pouches of Pixie Dust, from different venders of course as they were being discrete, when there came a great commotion from above.

“It’s a dragon!” Someone screamed, and suddenly people were scrambling about, as the beast descended and landed its monstrous backend next to the castle. It did not take long for the beast king of Effledus to come barreling out after that, and Bettina was forced to pick up ‘Enry so he wouldn’t be trampled as the mob swept them up in an attempt to get closer and see their king speak to the dragon. From her forced position in the front, it became clear to Bettina that the dragon and the two riders were not looking for a fight, in fact were royalty.

“Oooh oui oui! Zat iz ze Prince, of Spindlewas I remember!” ‘Enry exclaimed excitedly as Bettina brooded. The prince of Spindlewas could go choke on his silver spoon for all she cared. Bad timing was all he brought to her. She’d never found it wise to linger overly long in populated areas of Effledus when she was here, but with the market place as riled up as it was by the appearance of a dragon, she was stuck here for a while until things calmed down.

Lufgaw was in a good mood, good enough made him ignore the fact that the human I spoke without authorization, on the contrary Qing Jin and his rider understood quite well the situation in which they were, also if the dragon was talking the truth, that considering his species was most likely, the girl is Matakin spokeswoman.

Without realizing it had a crowd surrounding them nullifying any possibility of combat, the King wasn't going to risk his citizens in a battle with a dragon, no, diplomacy is the only option, Lufgaw was good at it but never with humans, he didn't even met the Queen of Towerlot his wife and advisors took care of those matters.

The first thing to do was to confirm the identity of humans, his nose was the means to do it since he had the best of all the kingdom, the man had a slight ogre's smell as the stories tell that childrens of Biarose were descendants of ogres so he passed.

However the girl was an amalgam of smells, predominated the human scent but that wasn't all, she had a residual smell of sulfur and dwarf corresponded with someone of Matakin, but what caught the attention of the King was the faint Fae scent, how a human would have that smell? her introduction gave the answer, Rumplestiltkin you old fool, how many humans able to use fae magic bore your pathetic revenge?, had at least one confirmed and one to be confirmed.
When the cat exclaimed further confirming the identity of the prince of the fallen kingdom, Lufgaw noticed the person who was with him, his eyes told him Fae but his nose screamed human, that explained the why the border never said anything, he should ask her how is able to do something like that.

There was also the matter of tonight's celebration, the King finally reached a decision "I shall know if what you have to say will help my kingdom or not tomorrow," began to speak facing the dragon "Until then may remain in the castle where I'll uncover your true nature, I will only say two things "look at the one called Dayerin "When a man loses everything he only has two things: his words and his life, if you want to keep the latter choose well the first" then set his eyes on the girl "When you're the spokesperson of a king your words and actions are of this, if you don't wish to bring him shame or something worse choose wisely your behavior," he turned to see the crowd and shout "Preparations for tonight will continue without change!" walked ignoring his guests and approached the talking cat "Cat, you and your partner are welcome in the palace", with that he have the three suspects under surveillance, "Qing Jin, if you need something just ask, the others follow me" it was rather obvious the difference in treatment between the dragon and humans but he didn't care, and walked to the castle thinking that Aquila could accommodate those humans.

Day didn’t understand why Oriana seemed ill at ease, as a sudden crowd descended upon them. For one, he loved crowds. He tended to gravitate towards them... they were exciting and chaotic. It brought him back to his fondest memories as a small boy, marching through a crowd on his father’s horse, the gleeful citizens of Old Spindewas throwing roses in the air and shouting his name.

When the crowd came, Day took a moment to pan his eyes over them. Of course, a crowd in Effledus looked much different than a crowd in Old Spindewas. For one, there was no one elderly here. And all the Fae folk were gorgeous and exotic-looking. There was a sprinkling of talking animals in the crowd, too, but one in particular caught his ear.

“Oooh oui oui! Zat iz ze Prince, of Spindlewas I remember!”

It was a cat that spoke his name in the funny accent--he saw his tiny mouth move. He was a cute little black cat and Day couldn’t help but smile at a cat wearing spectacles. Day then noticed the Fae holding the cat. She was a pretty one, as they all were very pretty... but for some reason she was sending him a nasty look. This intrigued him, and he cracked a small smile at her.

Day turned his attention back to King Lufgaw as he made his decision known. It was actually better than he had hoped for. They wouldn’t have to sneak in to see the kingdom... Lufgaw was inviting them inside! And then the Beast King doled out some words of wisdom:

"When a man loses everything he only has two things: his words and his life, if you want to keep the latter choose well the first.”

Day bit his tongue, to keep himself from saying the first thing that came to him, which was full of impertinence. The Beast King’s words made him sore. For one, it reminded him of the invasion, and for another, it was a thinly veiled threat on his life. “Thanks for the advice, Your Majesty,” Day replied stiffly, and gave a short bow as the King turned away.

Lufgaw said to follow him, and Day watched as Qing Jin and Oriana went along. But he lingered where he was. He stepped towards the brooding Fae with the cat. He had noticed how Lufgaw had singled them out, and wondered why.

“Hello, may I speak to your cat?” Dayerin asked her, recalling how the creature had called out his name. The Fae was even more gorgeous up close. Looking down at the cat gave him an excuse to check her out. “Nice boots, kitty,” he complimented her pet when he noticed his footwear. Even in Spindewas, most people had heard of Puss in Boots. Although they didn’t know that he had essentially created the Marquis of Carabas, he was celebrated as a folk hero that outwitted ogres, rescued maidens from towers and was the best mouser in Mewhaven. Day had traveled twice to Mewhaven, and longed to go back again. Talking cats were one of his very favorite things.

Aquila

After finishing with the scribe Aquila began making her way towards the castle entrance. She was joined by most everyone else in the castle; word about the dragon had spread quickly. Frustrated at the chaos she was beginning to consider transforming and just flying over all of them (she tried to stay in human form when navigating the palace since flying around seemed to startle people, especially when they didn’t see her coming- which was most of the time.) However, before she could she was intercepted by a servant.

“The king wishes you to address a certain matter.”

“Of course, let us move somewhere more private.”

After making their way into another room and closing the door against the chaos in the halls she settled into bird form and perched on the back of a chair to find out what the servant knew.

“A human girl and a cat have been seen approaching the castle. The girl is of small stature for a human and has bright blond hair. The cat is totally black and wears boots. They were last seen in the woods a few miles outside the castle.”

“Is that all?” Ordinarily when humans were sighted it was reported to the guards who took care of it on their own, if this was being brought to the king then there must be something more to it.

“No. It would seem that over time there have been several sightings of a woman and cat fitting a similar description.”

“Then why is this the first the King has heard of it?!”

“Well you see, most of these sightings weren’t actually reported. They only occurred deep in the woods so most who saw them simply assumed that they wouldn’t last long and there was no need to report them. And when they were reported the guards who went to look for them couldn't find them. The only reason we've been able to find out about all of them is because this time a fairy happened to see them.”

“Ahh.” There was a saying in Effledus: What a fairy found out, the whole kingdom found out. “It would seem those gossips made themselves useful for once.”

“Indeed, as this fairy spread his tale around he discovered that others had similar ones. We don’t know for sure whether these are all the same girl and cat or not, but it’s definitely suspicious.”

“Yes send word to all the towns to keep an eye out for anyone matching their descriptions. I will alert the guards in the castle town personally.”

“Of course.”

The servant bowed and left the room with Aquila was just behind him. Since there was actually business this time, she had no qualms about swooping over everyone. When she finally made her way out of the castle she saw that the King was just now receiving the dragon and its riders. She decided to join him and trying not to draw too much attention to herself swooped down just behind him, gracefully switching to human form just before landing. As the riders dismounted a black cat shouted and made himself noticed. He matched the description of the cat with the girl, but he was with a fae. The King noticed too, but what Aquila least anticipated was for him to actually invite them inside. As the party began moving inside the castle she fell into step behind Lufgaw.

“Majesty, do you think that cat is the one from the reports? And that fae….” She whispered so that only he could hear.

Crap crap crappity crap crap CRAP! Bettina cursed in a silent monologue as Lufgaw singled them out after his little chat and silent show of power towards the three guests who had so suddenly arrived. He knew, she could see it in his eyes, and the way he addressed ‘Enry and not her, much how he’d similarly ignored his new human guests in favor of the dragon rather sealed it for her. This was a trap, it had to be. Their only chance was to book it once the King and dragon entered the castle and captured everyone’s attention. She cast a look at ‘Enry, and the little cat nodded solemnly in understanding; they were going to have to make a run for it. Bettina had just spotted an opening in the crowd, and was about to bolt with ‘Enry, when suddenly there was a shadow completely covering her. She looked up and saw that it was none other than the prince of Spindlewas who now blocked her root of escape. The man positively dwarfed her, and she could hate him just for that.

Bettina had trouble hiding the irritation from her eyes, especially as she caught his gaze lingering on her breasts. She never really bothered to shift her body type with her glamours, just coloring and the addition of certain fae features, but now she resolved to start disguising as a man. Less hassle that way.

“It’s hardly my place to stop you if you wish to speak to my business associate.” Bettina replied as neutrally as possible, with a subtle warning not to call ‘Enry her cat again. He was her friend, not her pet, and she certainly did not want the idea floating about that she owned a talking animal in a country where they were first class citizens.

“I ah…zank you 'ighness." ‘Enry replied feeling a bit flustered by all the attention from royalty he was receiving today, and pushed the spectacled up his nose shyly.

“Well this has just been peachy but I’m afraid we’re on a deadline sooo…” Bettina attempted to brush past and around the gigantic prince, only to see a group of guards had taken the place of the king and his guests, and was now looking at them expectantly. The invitation was apparently a thinly valued command. Damnation.

The king walked majestically towards the castle, the servants and citizens who saw him pass momentarily interrupted what they were doing to bow out of respect, it wasn't something they were obliged, is more, Lufgaw could not care less if someone from his kingdom bowed or not, He didn't became king to be revered, but this time there was something different in the King, something few had been privileged to see, something that was said that was reserved only for the Queen Sereya, a smile, a gesture so natural for some but continually evaded the Beast King's face.

Of course they all know the reason, Lufgaw heard the whispers of the excited citizens and silently thanked his people, they were as excited as him for the pregnancy of the queen

As he walked he knew was followed by the dragon and Matakin spokeswoman, the Prince of Spindewas and the Companion of the Cat would be escorted by guards soon.

He heard the whisper of Aquila who appeared a little behind him, "If even your eyes were tricked, then that confirms everything"

He didn't want to reveal more information out of the castle before he could confirm his suspicions about Rumplestiltkin's hand in all this, also if a fairy heard something there would be no way to keep it in secret.

After walking for a while they came to the castle and went right through the main entrance, around could see the servants as they prepared for the celebration, many were amazed to see Qing Jin, luckily the castle was built to house large beings or with the ability to fly so the dragon would not have problems as long as don't spread his wings in a corridor.

Finally reached the throne room, Lufgaw noticed the absence of his wife, she probably returned to her own chamber, at the end of the room were two thrones, the right was crafted beautifully and decorated with precious stones and the left one was made of wood with irregular endings but what stood out was the armrests of this throne, they had a asymmetrical bumps, few knew that they were actually handles of two swords that now rested there, the right was the only weapon besides his own body that Lufgaw use to overthrow the fool who believed that the kingdom belonged him and the left was the broken sword that fool.

He stood in front of his throne and proclaimed "I'm Lufgaw, King of Effledus, you here are invited to join the celebration we'll have tonight, if you need anything talk to Aquila" pointed his hand to his adviser and then told her "They may have information from the one you are looking for" he sat down, before that remained one problem.

The problem is that before Lufgaw's reign, Rumplestiltkin was considered a kind of hero, deceiving greedy humans and taking away their children, in the same way that humans did so with the childrens of Effledus, old fool, with his power and cleverness could have helped his own home country rather than waste time on a pathetic revenge,
even now the most radicals call him martyr, if they discovered that the girl of Matakin is directly related to his death things would get ugly, also the Cat's friend could be related to him in some way.

Now that the throne room was empty, he could ask with more confidence, "Envoy of Matakin, Am I correct in thinking that your unique scent comes from Rumplestiltkin?" and then asked to the glasses cat "Cat, state your name and answer this, Your friend is related in any way with the one aforementioned?", he needed the answer to know how to handle the situation, he was willing to hear directly from the girl, but only if the cat was unable of speak.

Prince Dayerin cringed a little when the short but curvaceous Fae corrected him about her relationship to the cat. Business associate... not pet. How could he make such a faux pas, especially after having been to Mewhaven, the capitol of Liberated Cats? He must have been distracted by her lovely... eyes. Which, he could tell were clearly displeased with him.

“Business associate. Hey, Sir Cat, I’m so sorry for even insinuating that you were her... well, you know. That’s just what I was used to back home,” Day apologized directly to the cat. At least he hadn’t tried to pet the cat, then he would really look like a fool.

“Deadline, huh?” Day looked down at the fae as she made to brush past him. He followed her gaze to the group of guards. One of them was a Fae, another was a giant bear and the other looked like he was part beanstalk. All three wore the same kind of armor. “Looks like you’re invited to tonight’s event. Whatever all this hustle and bustle is about.”

Dayerin still didn’t move forward, just to see what the guards would do. The bear guard began to amble towards him and stood up on his hindlegs. Now it was Day’s turn to feel dwarved, as the giant Bear loomed a foot taller than him. Day felt a strong wave of heat and bear stench, all radiating from the Bear’s thick, furry blubbery body.

“Your presence is requested by the King. All of his guests must enter the castle,” the Bear rumbled in his deep voice. His black lips flapped and Day felt the drops of spittle land on his face.

“Of course, I was just... catching my bearings,” Day insisted. He looked back at the Fae and her feline business partner. “Maybe I’ll see you around, Lady Fae and Sir Cat. You can call me Day.” He then felt a swift smack on his back, and realized that it was the Bear’s paw, goading him forward.

Day made his way to the castle, closely followed from behind by his own personal guard, whose named he gleaned was Ernus Bear III. Day behaved himself all the way into the Castle, marveling at the size of the place as he was ushered into the throne room. When he entered, King Lufgaw was asking about Rumplestiltskin.

“Invitation, binding command, all the same with these types.” Bettina intoned dryly, though her tone had softened a bit towards the prince, this Day character, after his correction. She didn’t need to make more enemies at the moment than necessary, as she was already in enough trouble as it was. She and ‘Enry were marched in behind Day without too much incident, though she did give the fae a rather nasty stink eye after he attempted to push ‘Enry to go faster than his little legs could go. Once they were alone in the hall, the King began asking questions again, and the name Rumplestiltskin sent a jolt down her spin and Bettina glanced over at the girl with a new wariness. So that was the baby that got away huh? She didn’t know the half of it Bettina scoffed internally at the girl’s response. She lived with Dwarves and Dragons, what did she have to complain about?

“Oh well um, I am ‘Enry of Mewhaven ‘ighness, ‘ere for trade. Zis is Feliz, my bizness-“ ‘Enry began nervously reciting the story they’d concocted for the markets, before Bettina took a protective step forward and slightly in front of him.

“Save your breath ‘Enry. Cat’s outta the bag if you’ll forgive the pun.” Bettina said with a cocky smirk that masked her rising panic. How did he know? Did he just smell the magic, or did he know exactly who she was? Did he need money? Was it going to be the tower or the dungeon this time?

“Well there’s just no fooling your sniffer huh?” She continued as she pulled off her cloak and slowly allowed her glamour to dissolve. He knew what she was, no point in hiding it at this point.

“Yeah, I got some super extra special one on one kid time with the geezer, even made me call him daddy a few times for kicks. What of it?” Bettina’s tone was both mocking and hard, a combination reserved for only two subjects, Rumplestiltskin and her time in the tower. The topic made her uncomfortable, so she always made damn sure everyone else around her was too if they pressed the subject. People brought it up less often that way.

The Dragon Rider replied with courtesy confirming what Lufgaw could infer by himself, wasn't a big problem as long as Qing Jin help her to hide it, the thing wouldn't be discovered during the celebration if she don't speak about, the king planned to invite her along with the others, considering that his child would be half-human he was willing to use this opportunity to try to coexist more with these beings, that as long as they behave properly and in that respect Matakin spokeswoman presented no problem, at least for now.

"Don't use that power while you're here, if someone finds out, responds that an old fae grant it you in exchange for a trip on a Dragon", he didn't think that someone could discover it but still that would be the most appropriate excuse, in the country many of the citizens dreamed of traveling on such magnificent beings.

The king leaned back on the throne and blinked a few times when heard the statement of the human and the introduction of 'Enry, the girl broke the spell of glamour revealing her true appearance. The girl continued to respond in a mocking tone as if that could help her in some way.

Apparently she misinterpreted the intentions of the King, or the girl just wanted to leave this world while she was still young, or maybe the human appearance of Lufgaw made her think she could talk that way, human arrogance.

How should I deal with this?, Thought the king, Lufgaw wanted no bloodshed human on this day, and didn't want to put a human in the dungeons, the few humans who managed to cross the border ended up dead or if they did nothing wrong then were exiled after a heavy punishment which varied depending on the race that found them.

The companion of 'Enry obviously had used this method to enter the country several times for what it called for punishment and exile, but the King was in a good mood, it was clear that otherwise wouldn't have tolerated such insolence, was such a good mood he'll only scare her.

He stood up and walked slowly toward the girl as his body rearranged in its most primal form breaking his garments in some parts, Lufgaw stature rose a couple of feet while his skin darkened and grew fur, the hair of his head lengthened and its tone changed to a whitish one and two horns emerged then his hands and feet became claws.

When finished the King Lufgaw had disappeared, no, Lufgaw was a name he took when became king, before was known just as The Beast, the same that drove hundreds of hunters who threatened Effledus, the same around who gathered an army, the same who slayed the old ruler.

Just The Beast.

Made a feint of attack on the girl but his right claw stopped inches away then spoke with a raspy voice that was more like roar of proper of his beast form, "Thank Him from the bottom of your heart, 'Enry of Mewhaven should know that I'm not someone with whom you want to mess, even so, he tried to lie me for your sake, that's why your head is still on your shoulders, that and because today nobody will spill a single drop of human blood ", he looked at the others "Your luck brought you in a good time"

When King Lufgaw began his transformation, Bettina’s skin began to prickle with energy, as if it was welling up in her pores in some kind of defense, but she beat it back savagely with a control she’d learned long ago. No more gifts from Rumplestiltskin, she thought bitterly. They’re always poisoned. Instead of letting the magic flow, she side stepped to place herself in front of ‘Enry, who was shaking with wide eyes at the sight before him, and her hand flew to her side, ready to draw the concealed blade there if necessary. Bettina stared the beast king down as his great paw came nerve rackingly close to her face, though she did her best not to flinch. Bullies always liked to see the fear, and she was not inclined to entertain them, not anymore.

“Forgive me highness. I’m told I have problems resecting authority, nothing personal.” Bettina replied with a tight lipped smile that was a bit more respectful. Unfortunately for him, it was the best he was likely to get from her, she didn’t grovel to royalty. “Was there something you wished my assistance with then highness?” Bettina asked in a manner that attempted politeness, but there was an edge to her voice that betrayed a note of anxiety and bitterness to the question.

Why the King don't take his beast form as often as in the past?, the answer is simple, that body and those senses only release their full potential in the middle of a battle, is the body that will be sacrificed for his kingdom not a body to guide them to a peaceful future, Lufgaw has a miscalculation when decided use this form only to scare her, he underestimate his own bloodlust and overestimated his self control, he thought that the girl would reflect on her own behavior and come to the conclusion of she had done wrong to use such a method to the trick citizens of Effledus and yet she dares to ask.

“Was there something you wished my assistance with then highness?”

"You think I need something from a little human!" he roared, the wild pride of The Beast decided the sentence, the adopted daughter of Rumplestiltskin pushed her luck too much, now the flame of her life would be extinguished in a fairly violent way, his thoughts weren't the most sane now that was completely released, no, these were as wild as his appearance.

The time came, his right claw once again went towards the girl but this time it wasn't a bluff, this time has a real killing intent and the force needed to tear a grown man in half, he know because did several times in the past.
But despite what she might think the girl was lucky, this time her luck materialized in the form of the most beautiful woman in the world who entered the throne room saving the girl's life with just a few words.

"I believe it would be best for you to calm yourself down a bit and switch back"

Just those words and Lufgaw felt somewhat ashamed of what he was about to do, he appreciated the timely entry of his wife as returned to his human appearance "Sereya my wife, you don't know how glad am I to see you here" approached his queen who looked more beautiful than when he leave her before the arrival of Qing Jin and took her hand "Look humans, she is Oriana spokeswoman of Matakin and Jin Qing the guardian dragon", he wanted to show her that he could talk with humans without getting too angry, "He is the son of Briarose Queen of Spindewass, his name is Dayerin" a piece of the torn tunic fell to the ground but he didn't care "He is' Enry of Mewhaven" he pointed the little black cat with glasses and boots "And I still don't hear your name," he said dryly, he didn't even know the name of the person who was about to kill, had thought free her after the scaring her but he changed his mind eventually he'll decide her punishment but for now she was a forced guest, "She is Sereya the Queen of Effledus and my wife" he said with more pride than when he introduced himself before.

Dayerin was privy to a very strange confrontation between King Lufgaw and the Fae with the cat. He felt like he was missing an important part of the story, until the Fae took off her traveler’s cloak. He looked wide-eyed as the Fae morphed from brunette to blonde, and her Fae prettiness faded to just plain human prettiness. And she wasn’t just blonde... her hair was blindingly golden. He was expecting ‘Enry the cat to become something else, like her bespectacled boyfriend or something, but he didn’t.

The venom in the golden-haired woman’s voice also was attention-getting. Day now realized that Rumplestiltskin had affected both Oriana’s and this woman’s lives. It was like that old game he new, Six degrees of Rumplestiltskin. Everyone knew somebody who knew somebody who knew the twisted little Fae. And everyone who knew him had a different way he messed them up.

And then there was King Lufgaw’s transformation. It made the golden girl’s change look like nothing. Day felt himself tense up and his heart started pounding in his ears. It was possibly the most frightening thing he had ever seen, watching the mostly human man become The Beast. He was hideous, monstrous... a nightmare creature. Way worse than Day had ever imagined.

When the Beast brought his claw close to the Golden girl, Day darted forward. “Stop!” he choked out, his voice partially caught in his throat. It was an impulse he had to follow, for he sincerely believed that this girl was about to have her head swiped off. He had to run to her, push her out of the way, kick the Beast in the shin-- anything, just get that girl away from those razor claws! But before he could even get close, two furry guard arms wrapped around his chest and held him back. He squirmed and writhed, but it was really no use. He was trapped in a massive bear hug.

Fortunately, The Beast didn’t actually do it, and claimed that he wouldn’t spill human blood. He told them that they were lucky. But Day was still on edge, and he strained against the arms of the Bear. His face was red, his breathing heavy. It was impossible to relax while the Beast was still standing near the Golden girl.

And then the Beast lashed out for a second time, and this attack was even more vicious. Day kicked and struggled against his vice of bear arms, which hugged him so tight that the air was forced from his lungs. When one of his ribs was just about to snap, the Bear released him and Day stumbled forward on hands and knees. He hopped to his feet and sprinted across the hall to where the Golden-haired woman stood with ‘Enry. Against all his expectations, she was still in one piece.

“Holy Pied Piper, are you alright--?” he gasped, his eyes darting around wildly looking for blood. His voice came to halt, though, when he looked up and his eyes were met with a vision. His mouth literally fell open, his eyes glazed over. It was like a heavenly being had descended among them, an angel dressed in an emerald gown. She was statuesque, with long silver-blonde hair, eyes like jewels and the most perfectly formed face. She was in every way ideal, and then some. Day knew exactly who she was, before The Beast gave her an introduction.

Day bowed lowly when the Beast’s rough voice spoke Beauty’s name. “Most beautiful Queen...” he began, finding himself too awestruck for words, and no idea how to end his sentence. Was it possible that he could be immediately in love with her? It felt like he was.

Oriana blinked owlishly at the girl's blatant disrespect for the king. She was in his land, he could kill her and easily get away with it, for the gods sake! She shook her head and almost wished for death to the girl. She could not handle two things, glamours and most humans. Both meant lies and deceit.

When someone stopped the king, she turned and found a horrid feeling in her chest. The queen Sereya was standing there, looking as pretty as the rumors said. No, pretty was too bland a word, her mind supplied and the feeling burned more. She was stunning, amazing. Prefect. Her magic kicked up as Day began to drool over a married woman.

Qing Jin shook his head and pushed his magic over hers, masking it for the smell of Dragon. It contained her magic so it swirled violently and colorlessly around her, whipping her hair ever so slightly when it came near her. "Golden Child, you must calm yourself." He ordered in Dwarish and she started, blinking.

"S-sorry, friend..." She murmured back, her magic becoming dormant in its bubble. She turned back to the queen and gripped her dress, right over her heart. Her black, dirty, tattered dress. She desperately wished for an invisibility glamour. Or one to make her looks Fae. "What is this feeling, Qing Jin? I don't like it."

"Jealousy and ency, Golden Child. Something every being feels... Even I." He replied and she nodded slowly. "It's natural, dear Golden One. You are fine."

Never the less, she bowed to the queen. She refused to speak unless spoken to by her, regardless of her status as queen. The nasty feeling didn't diminish either. Qing Jin only lowered his head, watching the queen. She was with child, as his nose and magic told him. But once again, he wouldn't comment on it unless it was brought up.

Sereya looked towards everyone a smile forming on her lips, it seemed to light up the room. "Welcome to our home everyone I am so honored for you all to be here, I also apologize for my husbands temper he has some anger issues needless to say. She giggled kissing her husbands cheek, her laugh sounding like bells she curtsied to everyone "As you can see I am with child and I would be most honored if you would stay and celebrate with us tonight on this wonderous occasion" she practically beemed and looked at them.

She gave Day a smile as she looked at the silly look on his face she had never understood the fuss over her, she'd never seen her beauty as such.

This guy had to be bipolar, Bettina thought sharply as her shoulders stiffened in preparation to throw herself to the side. Good god, the one legitimately non mocking question she posed to the beast man, and that was what he chose to rage about?! Good to know just how racist he was she supposed. It didn’t help her case much, but she’d heard the human wife he’d taken had softened the king’s views on such matters a touch. Always a bad idea to put too much stock in gossip it seemed. The king however, was halted in his assault by none other than the queen herself, and Bettina was left to wonder no longer why the king had made such a large exception in his blatant anti-human policy. She was both stunning and kind, and her very presence seemed to lend a calming warmth to the room.

What did surprise her however, was the concern the prince, Day she believed, seemed to show regarding her wellbeing. He seemed genuinely distraught over the idea of the beast king harming her, had almost been crushed by a giant bear guard trying to help her, and Bettina had no idea why he’d done it. She meant nothing to him, why would he risk himself like that? The only reason that came to mind was that he wished to use her for her…specialized talents, but there was no way he could know. She hadn’t even revealed her name, and even on the off chance he’d heard tale of the little orphan girl who could spin gold, that didn’t mean he’d connect the dots. She still did not trust him, or anyone else in this room outside ‘Enry for that matter, but her outlook regarding the prince perhaps softened a bit.

“He’s honored your grace.” Bettina supplied with a surprising lack of condescension as the poor moon struck prince began to flounder. At least teenage boys were predictable she thought half amused with a sigh before giving the prince an encouraging pat on the back.

“Your highness did not ask.” Bettina replied equally as dry, and made no move to correct the matter. If he wished to know the name of a lowly human like herself, he could very well lower himself and ask.

“Charmed to meet you your ‘ighness. Ze tales we ‘ave ‘eard of your loveliness and good nature do you no justice.” ‘Enry replied, a little moon struck himself. Bettina remained silent after that, and let ‘Enry do the talking. Ironically she always knew the right things to say when she was in disguise, or playing a part, but when she was nothing but herself she tended to do more harm than good when she spoke.

"Another one! Look!" a citizen shouted. This dragon did not land as majestically as the first, but that was due to it being much larger and older. A guard approached with caution; "What is your business in Effledus, dragon?" he inquired. The dragon looked down and smiled. "My name is Mortimus. I've come for the big meeting but I think I'm a tad late. Not to worry, I'm friends with many of the guests in there, I'm sure they'll forgive me." said the dragon. The guard still looked unconvinced; " How do you know who's in there? This meeting is top secret." he asked. Mortimus sighed; "My dear boy, use your common sense, I felt their presence upon the wind, of course! Now, please, could I go in? I do have identification somewhere, but I don't think that is necessary, as i promise you CAN trust me. It's hard to find a dragon that you can't trust these days." he reassured. The guard sighed, his fae ears twitching. "Ok, Mr Mortimus, I shall let you in, but if i get in trouble with Lufgaw....." "Then on my head be it!" butted in the dragon, "Yes, i know." and he followed the guard into the palace, humming "Be our guest" to himself.

"Why, if it Isn't Lufgaw! My, you haven't aged a day!" exclaimed Mortimus as he greeted the ensemble. "Ah, and of course, Queen Sereya, looking as lovely as ever, my dear!" He spotted the cat. "''Enry! Why its been so long, monsieur, and.... oh, i see you're still with HER." he added, looking suspiciously at Bettina. Then he turned to face the other guests, "Oh, and i see we have new blood here too. Another dragon, eh? What an unexpected honour and.....oh, what a pretty young girl you're saddled with too! Lufgaw, i beg you, please tell me what I have missed!" He said enthusiastically, finding his oversized seat.

The group made their way into the throne room. Upon their arrival, Lufgaw formally introduced himself and invited them to the celebrations that night. Aquila stood next to his throne and bowed when he pointed her out to the guests. He then took a seat and gestured for the servants to clear out; the room was now empty save for the king, Aquila, their guests and a handful of guards. Able to speak more privately now, Lufgaw revealed his suspicions that the two women in the room had ties to Rumplestiltskin, which they confirmed- in the case of the fae by changing into a blonde human. “So it’s all coming together now.”

The woman’s transformation didn’t surprise Aquila but her impudence did. Having a problem with authority was one thing, but to actually insult the beast king to his face- to Aquila’s knowledge such a thing was unprecedented and even if it wasn’t there probably wasn’t anyone who could share the story anymore. Aquila did nothing to intervene as Lufgaw transformed and threatened the girl with his claws- as far as she was concerned the girl deserved whatever the King did to her.

Faced with such a threat the girl did apologize but her haughty tone was still there and she didn’t sound particularly penitent. This time it seemed Lufgaw was really going to kill her and he probably would have had the Queen not arrived just at that moment. It was only after everything settled down that Aquila considered it wouldn’t be very wise to kill the girl in front of their other guests- the man among them seemed particularly upset about the possibility as he had to be restrained by one of the guards. However, the Queen’s presence calmed not only her husband but the room as a whole. The young man especially was practically tripping over himself to make his introduction to her. “How foolish,” Aquila thought to herself.

Now that peace had been restored they could continue their discussion, or at least they could have had not a very large guest chosen that moment to arrive. The dragon, Mortimus was no stranger to Lufgaw’s halls, in fact there was even a large chair in the throne room that had been custom built for him. After making cheerful introductions to everyone in a thunderous voice that echoed throughout the room he made his way to the chair and took a seat.

“Boisterous as ever I see, Mortimus.” Aquila said with a slight smirk. “Majesty, these are the people you sent the other pixies to, yes? If that is the case should we now discuss how we will address the empire?” She held out the scroll that the scribe had transcribed the other message on to, “I have here the reply from Queen Rapunzel.” In the back of her mind she thought that perhaps the King and their guests would prefer to wait until after the festivities, but the way she saw it doing it now while everyone was here and sober was simply the more efficient thing to do.

Lufgaw stood with his torn tunicand observed the effects of his wife's intervension not only calmed him, she also saved the life of 'Enrys's friend besides spare the servants from having to cleanse the blood and the nameless girl remains, Lufgaw thought he had to find a way to call her but as the girl refused to introduce herself and he had no intention of asking he decided to call her Rumples-girl, he knew that was going to upset her and that was an childish act that was willing to afford.

The king looked at the strange behavior that had Oriana, Matakin spokeswoman when the beautiful Sereya made her appearance in the throne room, that behavior escaped his understanding, he came to the conclusion that it had something to do with discovering that Rumples-girl also was related to the old fae who deceived her mother, but that don't have any relation with his wife.

Then his eye fell on the prince of Spindewass, by the way he struggled with the guard it seemed that he wanted help Rumples-Girl, he was brave, the king had to admit that he was but that doesn't make him less fool, the most he could do would be to serve as a human shield, give her a few more seconds of life and incidentally increase the workload of the servants, didn't escape the king's gaze the expression the boy had as he looked at the Queen of Effledus, was goes without saying that Lufgaw jealously guarded his wife, the king didn't doubt his wife, but there have been many fools who behaved in a more insistent to say it in one way and Lufgaw had a sector of his mind reserved to think in different ways to punish them.

Then, his beloved, using her heavenly voice announced her pregnancy and invite everyone to the celebration, Lufgaw wanted to got rid of Rumples-girl, this time with exile or something similar, but decided to abide the will of his wife and let her come, he was about agree with the statement of Sereya when the old dragon Mortimus made his bustling entry into the throne room.
Lufgaw had to admit that he was surprised with how the dragon found out things, even though he was on good terms with him and always was willing to talk for long periods of time with the dragon, was also a part of him that wasn't very happy with his pressence, mainly because he started to visit Effledus after Lufgaw claimed the throne, from the perspective of the King sometimes his behavior mocks the many who suffered to build the kingdom that he enjoys now.

Aquila expressed her desire to discuss the matter of the empire right now, Lufgaw planned to do it some other time but, why do you have advisors if you aren't going to hear them?, first responded to the dragon "Good to see Mortimus, tonight we are celebrating my wife's pregnancy you can share this joy with us if you like, and as for these huma-" stopped, that in itself would be an act of discrimination which now wanted to try to phase out of his mind "These unexpected guests come to share information about the threat that the empire pose on us all" he looked at the blonde and said," 'Enry of Mewhave and Rumples-Girl are here for a coincidence" he whispered to his wife "Come with me to the throne" and walked to his own throne as he waited for his wife to sit in hers.

"As Aquila said, I want to hear what you have to say before the celebration, I'd like to hear the message of the Queen Rapunzel too", she was friends with his wife assumed that it would be appropriate to invite her but didn't know if she could be on time or not, but being honest it wasn't something that bothered him much.

Day felt like his heart had been stepped on by a giant. Crushed! Queen Sereya was pregnant! He had not even noticed, he had been so absorbed by everything else about her. At least, her announcement brought him back to his senses. But when she smiled--directly!--at him, he fell into his lovesick trance again. The look from Sereya’s husband gave him a little jolt of fear that woke him up.

“Be realistic, Day,” he murmured to himself, shaking his head. There were plenty of other attractive females in the room, he reminded himself. Like Oriana, and the unnamed Golden Girl, and heck, even the bird-looking woman was not half-bad... although her talons were a little scary.

And then there was this sudden booming voice, and Day nearly jumped out of his skin. It was a giant white dragon that entered the hall, and he was chatting up a storm. The sudden entrances of dragons was something Day imagined he would never get used to, no matter how friendly they were.

And this dragon was beyond friendly... he seemed to already know half the people in the room, and he was on a first name basis with the Beast king. He even knew ‘Enry... and didn’t seem to approve of the Golden Girl. Day looked at her and lifted an eyebrow. Why was everyone on her case? Day didn’t know her, yet he had been willing to save her from certain death. He would do that for any civilian... he wasn’t about to watch the girl get her head ripped off. It was just a matter of common decency, something expected of a Prince. And it still upset him to think of what King Lufgaw was about to do. They were not safe here, not at all. It would be best for him to pal around with the Rumple Golden girls... watch over them.

The Eagle woman suggested that they attend to serious matters first. Day felt somber at the moment, and prepared to relay his message about Contalabutte and the fall of Spindewas. But just as he opened his mouth to speak, there was a great commotion as Queen Sereya’s family burst in through the doors.

The family reunion that passed before them made Day just plain sad. For one, it reminded him of his broken heart, and so averted his eyes from seeing how beautiful Sereya looked and how she had the best in-laws and the nicest little brothers. And, it was extra painful, because his family used to be like that. He used to have a father, and he used to be joint at the hip with his sister. And now all of that was gone. He didn’t even know where his sister was. And he didn’t even want to think about what was happening to his mother at the moment...

“Greetings, family of the Queen,” Dayerin said, standing straighter and sounding more like a prince than he usually did. “I’m Dayerin, Prince of Spindewas. And if you’ll excuse me, I have important business to address with King Lufgaw and his court.”

He knew it was a rotten time to bring up the looming war while the Queen’s family was visiting. But he was impatient, and desperate, and he just had to get it out there. He had to get his family back together.

“Spindewas needs help. Desperately,” Day began, looking earnestly at the King, and passing glances at everyone else in the room. “I need to assemble a rescue mission to get my mother out of there... Briarose, she’s trapped, and married to the horrible Contalabutte. Believe me, he’s as horrible as Emperors can get, and his forces are composed of dark Fae, and sorcerers, giants, not to mention dragons... We had no idea how to fight them in Spindewas, not even the ogres could make a dent in them. They're not your average soldiers, but the kind of stock you in Effledus would be more familiar with. He wants to gobble up all our kingdoms in Faecleir. It’s in all of your interests’ to help me get rid of him!"
