He was taken into CPS (Child Protective Services) when he was little because (your choice). Since then, he's been bouncing from home to home constantly, until CPS Manager Jenne found him a permanent home. Unfortunately, the couple in mention was killed in a car accident a week before he was to move in.
His Manager, Maria, felt bad for him and decided to take him in until the system could find another permanent family.
(The character is traveling to Whidbey Island from Florida, which means several flights and a long car ride. Keep that in mind.)

The Jenne Household
CPS Manager Maria Jenne (The new character's personal manager) decided to take ___ into her home until a permanent family could be found. She and her daughter, Avery (My character), are both very excited and up to the task. They live on the Jenne Farm in Whidbey Island, Washington (THIS IS AN ACTUAL PLACE AND I'VE BEEN THERE NO JOKE I SWEAR).
Anyhow, the farm has the following:
-Large antique farmhouse with four bedrooms (Maria's room, Avery's room, the Guest room, and the Library), two bathrooms (One downstairs, One upstairs w/ a shower tub thing), two living rooms (connected with an arch between them), Dining room, kitchen, and attic (Currently used as Avery's "Lab") with personal staircase (located in the kitchen). House also has three doors (One out front, One on the side of the house, and one in the kitchen facing the driveway).
-One large red barn with a huge loft and four pens (Horse, Cows, Goats, Chickens), as well as tons of hay and harvested crops.
-One Dance Hall (Currently being used as an Art Studio) between the house and barn
-One small Shed, near the kitchen door (Currently being used to hold tools and outdoor equipment)
-One small 4-space parking area on the beach-wards side of the house, driveways on the other side)
-One side yard by the driveway, one front yard facing the road, and several crop fields
Avery remodeled the guest room for the new kid's arrival. She:
-changed the wall paint from a dull yellow to a sky blue, with white clouds and a sun (painted around the ceiling light) that turns into a white glowing moon in the dark due to glow-in-the-dark paint
-changed the bedspreads from flowers to navy blue and black
-changed the old curtains out for new white ones
-added a lamp and alarm clock as well as a small bookshelf with several graphic novels
-and stuck a creepy clown doll in the closet as a joke

Avery's alarm clock emitted a loud beep into her bedroom, and she slammed it off, already dressed and wide awake. "C'mon guys, we've gotta get to work." She said to her dogs. All three jumped up on her at once, knocking her over and slobbering all over her overalls. She shoved them off and stood with a laugh. Downstairs, she poured some food into each of their dishes and slipped into her mud-caked boots, pulling her blonde curls into a ponytail as she headed out to the big red barn out back.
The animals stirred restless as she opened up the huge door. "Morning!" She said cheerfully, picking up bags of feed and starting to pour it into the mangers. A few more chores were necessary after feeding: replacing the hay, checking up on the barn cats (Missy had just given birth), and opening up the passages to allow everyone into the pasture. After she finished she hurried back inside to clean up. "Mom, we have to be at the airport in three hours and you're not even awake!" She banged a fist on the door, receiving a groan in return.
After showering, Avery changed into more socially acceptable clothing: a pair of jean capris and a teal blouse. Her mom was already cooking breakfast when she came downstairs again. After a healthful (or not) meal of chocolate pancakes, the duo was on the road and off to the Seattle airport, which was about an hour or so from Whidbey. They made their way through the bustling crowds of people just in time to see the airplane land. "This is so exciting~" Avery said to herself. And indeed it was.

Mark had spent an unholy number of hours on the way to get to yet another family. He sighed as he rested his head against the window and watched the dizzying ground below. A new song starting on his iPod, and he could feel himself becoming entranced by it.

An all-too eager flight attendant who had introduced herself to everyone on board as Stacy announced that the plane would landing soon. This managed to cut through Mark's concentration and very loud headphones. Darn, that woman was loud. Rolling his eyes, Mark returned to focusing on his music. Next thing he knew, it was time to depart. He hurried to gather up what little belongings he had and get off the plane. Mark nearly tripped over his own untied shoelaces a few times, much to the annoyance of others around him. But finally, finally, he was able to get to the ground safely.

Avery finally just turned her phone off and looked up in time to see her mom waving frantically into the crowd, shouting Mark's name way too excitedly for most people to stand. Some elderly couples nearby glared and shuffled away.
When Mark came into view, he was exactly as Avery's mom had described him: his orange hair and blatant expression. He seemed really bored. "Welcome home buddy!" Her mom said, throwing an arm around Mark's shoulders, even though he clearly didn't like it. Avery knew her mom had only met Mark a couple times since she was assigned to his case, but the way the woman acted would make you think they'd known each other for years.

Mark was suddenly assaulted by the loud yells and crushing grip of yet another foster mother. He gently squirmed out of her grasp as a girl he assumed to be his foster sister waved. Waving back, he smiled at her. But it wasn't a very good smile. He didn't know how to smile, not since years ago.
"Thanks for taking me in, Ms. Jenne." Sure, she was overbearing and would probably just abandon him like everyone else, but at least she was trying. His voice was quiet, and it would be no surprise if his intended target couldn't even hear over the hustle and bustle surrounding them.

Avery could barely hear what Mark was saying, but her mom was much closer to the boy and was seemingly talking his ear off about what was going to go on later that day. Avery followed behind as her mom practically dragged the poor kid out to the car. The ride home mostly consisted of Avery's mom talking about her job while the two teenagers ignored her with music. Avery figured Mark was tired and didn't want to say much so she stayed quiet.
By the time the three pulled into the driveway, Avery was lost in space while Mozart blasted through her headphones. She didn't even notice they were home until the truck stopped. "Welcome home kids!" Avery's mom was peppy as ever, skipping into the house with childish laughter, while Avery herself was actually pretty embarrassed. She waited for Mark to snap out of his music before introducing herself.
"Um, I'm Avery. I'm going to assume you sort of know my mom...sorry about her crazy attitude. She's always like that."

"Sorry.. She always has been from the few interactions with her I've had." He smiled tiredly at her. "The hyperness is a nice change from the drabness of my normal life, though....." Mark stopped talking for a few seconds to scan his new home. The farm was surprisingly large. The most interesting thing to him, though, was the large barn off in the distance. "Do you have animals?" he asked sheepishly. He was sure Avery was going to think he was weird and maybe a little bit weak for asking such a thing.

Despite their energy, the three were quite calm after noticing Mark, walking slowly over to him as if they were being polite. "I guess you're lucky." Avery said. "They're usually really hyper around guests~" All three dogs calmly sniffed out Mark, the way dogs do, before running off across the yard.
Avery suddenly remembered a fact of the day, and turned to go inside when Avery's mom threw open the back door, almost falling down the steps. "I forgot I had work!!!" The woman was greatly worried and Avery laughed. "Well, I gotta go. Avery can show you around and get you briefed on what school'll be like. Seeya later kids!" Avery waved slightly as her mom ran off to her car.

Mark smiled, a lot more energized this time, as he watched the dogs. He wished that they had stayed longer, but oh well. As Avery's mother came running out of the house yelling about having to go to work, he watched, bewildered. He turned to look at Avery. "Does she do this every day?" he asked.
"Just about." Avery replied, watching her mother tear out of the driveway and down the road. "Lets just say she has a bad sense of timekeeping~ Anyhow, I'm supposed to show you around, so what do wanna see first?" They had the entire farm to see. Avery was silently hoping he'd ask to see his bedroom, she was especially proud of the remodeling job she'd done.
"How about you show me the house? Anywhere in there is fine to start", he said. He really wanted to see the barn, but figured that he should get rid of his luggage first. Besides, a new room would be nice to see. Mark was curious as to whether the house's inside would be like an old farm house, or if it would be more modern and updated. Either would be fine with him. Old farm houses were cosy, and a modern house would make him feel as if he was actually rich.
"Cool!" Avery skipped inside, holding the back door open for Mark and helping to get his stuff up the steps. "The kitchen is pretty small actually, but everything else seems to make up for it." Avery opened up a door on the wall opposite the entrance, revealing a staircase behind what seemed to be a pantry. "There's a staircase here that goes upstairs, I dunno why there's two but there are. There's a bathroom there too."
Avery showed off the entire downstairs: living rooms, dining room. She would've played something on the piano for him but there was more to see so she waited on that. They finally made it upstairs. "Your room is here, across the hall from the Library. I remodeled it since everything was super old fashioned. It was a guest room but we never have guests so it was super dusty and stuff." She explained. "My room's here, and the bathroom's next door to you, just be careful when using the shower. It's temperamental."

Mark looked around the house in wonder. It was so much better than he could have imagined. There were a lot of interesting different things, like two staircases, a library, and a piano. He would definitely have to explore it more later.

Avery was glad Mark was excited, according to her mom he was usually pretty withdrawn, so this was definitely a good thing. "Of course!" She skipped cheerfully down the stairs, running her hand down the length of the piano keys while she waited for him to catch up. "We have a lot of animals, but I keep the barn pretty clean so it doesn't really smell like normal barns." Avery had so many things to talk about but she was careful not to overwhelm her new friend on his first day.

Avery swung up onto a ladder and climbed up into the loft. She'd swept away the hay that morning so it was neat and clean, with a sofa and chairs for comfort. It had been her mother's idea.
"You can come out here whenever you like, it's actually really warm in the barn, even at night." Avery smiled.

He sat down in a chair, a dark wooden rocking chair with a red cushion that encompassed the seat and back. It was a rather pleasurable experience, and he rocked back and forth a few times. The chair made a relaxing squeak noise with every movement. There were two armrests padded with the same material as the seat, and he placed his elbows onto them. Despite the hard wood beneath, his elbows were on soft cushion.
"This chair is so comfortable", he said, rocking back and forth while glancing at Avery.

Avery laughed a bit. "Haha, I guess. That chair's pretty old and apparently the older furniture gets, the more comfortable it gets too~" She flopped over onto the couch and blew her bangs out of her face, taking in the quiet. "Y'know, I've never really spent time with anyone but my mom. We never have guests either, or any family nearby. It's pretty cool that you're here." Avery smiled and sat back up. Noise came from below, and some baaing came up through the floor as the goats ran in.
Climbing back down to the pens, Avery walked over to the goats and stuck a hand out to pet them lovingly. "I would go through the names of all our animals, but that'd take a while, so I'll just write them down later."

Mark excitedly followed her down once he saw a hoard of goats enter. He extended his hand to one, a short adult with rather small horns. The goat sniffed him before Mark deemed it was okay to pet it. Its fur was soft, a bit dirty but soft. He tried to clean off the goat by picking off dried mud as he listened to Avery speak. "...What's the name of the one I'm petting right now?" he asked.
"Oh, that's Shadow. When we first got him, he had a black dog's bed, and he would always disappear in it like a Shadow. That's why we named him that~" Avery gave him a pat on the head. "I actually need to give them a bath soon, they're really dirty. I'll do that tomorrow." Cleaning the goats was especially annoying because they always tried to eat the soap, and she didn't really want to deal with that stuff at the current moment. "Say, have you ever ridden a horse?"

"This is Bruno, he's really sweet and docile. Well, unless you accidentally drop a bucket on him from the loft like Pedro did last year, then he'll probably kick you." Avery laughed at the memory and walked into the horse pen, grabbing the saddle off it's perch and proceeding to latch it onto Bruno.

"Not since I was five..." Mark looked at Bruno in wonder, watching Avery saddle him up. After a few moments, he ran out to join the two. "It would be nice to try it again, though."
He leaned on the fence of the horse pen, wincing as a wood splinter poked through his greens sweater and scraped his elbow. Quickly pulling away, Mark rolled up his sleeve and began to rub his wound. "Yowch... Remind me to not do that again please." He chuckled.

"Yeah, you should probably be careful with the wood. It's old and you can get splinters really easily." Avery smiled and gently led Bruno to stand next to the step stairs. "Well? Do you wanna ride?" Avery had to admit she was a bit worried. It had been a while since she had taught someone how to ride a horse, and even then there was a small chance of injury since her trainee was a fully grown adult man. "I can teach you how to ride, if you'd like. It's a bit tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's a pretty cool way to get around~"
Mark smiled the tiniest bit and nodded. "Sure! ..How do you get on this thing?" He looked at Bruno, puzzled. "I climb up on this step here", he said, narrating his actions. "Then I sit down on him?" Mark swung his leg over Bruno's back and pulled himself onto the saddle. "Oh, I answered my own question." He ruffled the horse's hair before lifting up the cracked leather reins and sliding his sneakers into the stirrups. Or, well, trying. Finally he was able to lift his foot up enough to put it in, but the stirrup was so far up that his knee was bent comically.
Avery couldn't help but laugh at Mark's position. "Here, let me help." She stepped forward and adjusted the stirrup so his leg wouldn't be bent so funny. "That should be a bit more comfortable. Now, steering the horse is simple but it can be a bit confusing sometimes." She explained. "Pull the reins left to go right, right to go left, back to slow down. And slap them gently to accelerate." Bruno grunted loudly and dug his hooves into the dirt, restless from lack of exercise since Avery hadn't ridden in a while. Lately she'd been too busy with Harvest and getting stuff ready for school.
Mark listened carefully to her instructions before experimentally tugging the reigns to the left. Bruno turned to the right, just like Avery had promised. He stopped pulling the reigns to the left, and Bruno walked in a straight line until they hit the fence. Getting Bruno to turn around was a bit of a struggle for Mark, but after some effort, he got Bruno to comply.
Avery took a seat on a bale of hay, watching with a smile as Mark and Bruno made their way slowly out of the barn. She would've helped him with turning Bruno around, but he seemed to be getting the hang of it and she didn't want to interrupt his learning experience, so she just kept watching. "You're pretty good at this for not having ever steered a horse. I'd say I'm impressed!" Even Avery had taken hours to completely figure out how to steer a horse. But to Mark, it came almost as naturally as walking.

Collectibles
