Miiko has a few scars, all of which she covets like their own story. Her ears are not pierced and on her hand looks almost like what should be a light bearing mark, but isn't filled in.

Miiko was born to a family of four, with brown hair and brown eyes. No, she does not wear contacts, nor does she dye her hair, it is simply one of the anomaly's of the world. It started when she turned five, Miiko had nearly drowned in the water surrounding her city. When her big sister saved her, the mark appeared on her hand. At first they panicked, unknowing as to what this mark meant and feared that she would be taken away. It was the Rebellion Doctor that recognized it for what it was, referring to the symbol as a Light Bearing Mark. However, something was amiss. Rather than having the characteristic white ink that should have filled the marking in, Miiko's was left blank. The transformation took place quickly, first at the roots, then in her eyes. Her hair fell out, she had gone blind. For months Miiko took shelter in her room, too embarrassed to emerge. Slowly it regrew, fluffy and pink, her eyes an almost muted turquoise. At long last her vision was restored and Miiko crept out of isolation, her skin pearly, close to that of a doll. Her fingers are long and slender, her face easily recognizable by the characteristic pink heart.

Making waves in pitch black sand

When Miiko was born, the world was very different then it used to be. Light Bearers were nothing but a memory, supposedly extinct from this world after having fought war time and again. Her parents hadn't meant to conceive a second child, Miiko was something of an accident but was never treated as such. In fact, being the youngest, she was spoiled rotten by both of her parents. Due to the fact that she was the smallest, her family, and the rebellion, which had become an extension of sorts of her family, all treated her as their favorite little kitten. Stella, who was always jealous of the attention Miiko got, sometimes bullied her little sister, but Miiko idolized Stella despite it. Together, the two of them often went on misadventures outside of their home, venturing into the boats that took them through the city despite being told not to go near the water.

They learned all too soon the dangers of the sea surrounding their quaint little city. Stella and Miiko decided to take a trip to the beach, something the sister's would often do when they sneaked out of their home. Leaping from rock to rock, Stella joked about pushing Miiko into the oncoming waves. As it turned out, she didn't have to. Miiko slipped and hit her head, falling into the sea. Stella, who didn't know how to swim, ran to find an adult that could help them. Miiko was saved and whisked inside to the Rebellion Doctor, who diagnosed her with a concussion and something quite odd. There were traces of light inside of Miiko's body, not enough to do much more than form a marking on her hand. After that came the unsightly baldness and blindness. Stella was guilty, believing this to be her fault. Her jealousy for her sister quickly faded after seeing the situation that had befallen her little sister. During Miiko's isolation, the two sisters became closer than ever and when Miiko regained her sight and hair, both sisters were surprised to learn that Stella was a light bearer.

The rebellion celebrated, Stella was only fifteen years old and yet they wanted her to fight for them, to bring the end of the new reign down before anything drastic could happen. Stella went to the front lines, she fought and fought and returned home exhausted. She refused to speak of what she had seen and done and locked herself up in her room the same way Miiko had so many months before. Miiko wanted to go too, she wanted to see what her sister had, she wanted to know why Stella no longer wanted to play with her. Together the family traveled to the front lines, where Miiko helped put band aids on wounds and give water to soldiers in need of a break. It was on that battlefield that she watched as Stella was struck down. Her big sister, the unbeatable light bearer, was taken into the custody of the government, never to be seen again.
{☛ ⓄⓉⒽⒺⓇ ☚}
Miiko is a bit, well, clingy. It has been a long time since she has had a friend.

Miiko kept her head covered while fighting, using the weapon that Nino had given her. She took out the magic wand and uncapped the heart, revealing the knife inside of it. Miiko held it close, her hands trembling while she stayed beside Rose, all hell having broken loose in front of the hospital. No one targeted Miiko, not perceiving the little pink haired girl as a threat. Miiko got one good jab in, stabbing a soldier in the foot before Lise appeared with Mayor Lindon, a knife pressed against his throat. Miiko froze, as did the other light bearers who all craned their necks to see what was about to happen. An offer was made, Miiko held her breath, praying that he wouldn't take it. She silently cheered when Mayor Lindon shot the offer down. The plan was revised, back on the table and disappointingly, it was taken. He slumped in defeat, knowing that Jaspar could not take the hit of opposing L's forces.

"No," Miiko gasped in horror. Almost instantly battle mode had been dropped and a new agenda taken up. Soldiers put on protective gear and marched inside of the hospital to rip children away from their homes and families until they could allocate the sources to house and feed all of those people. Miiko sunk to her knees, the failure hitting hard. Callum gestured wildly to the group of them, signifying that they needed to get out of there as quickly as possible. They were all light bearers, if they were taken by L's forces then the Rebellion will have lost more of their most valuable agents. Miiko rose and recapped her weapons, disappearing into the shadows with the rest of them. "We lost," she said quietly, not seeming sad, more angry than anything. They were on their way back to the boat that her Father had docked on the far side of the island.

"Next time," Miiko whispered, "next time we'll be the winners. Won't we Rose?" Her second loss in the matter of a day, next time Miiko and Rose would come out victorious. Jace was waiting for them by the boat, his jacket torn with stuffing flying out and his face bloodied, but alive. "Daddy!" Miiko ran towards him, her scarf falling off of her hair as she leaped into her arms. "Hey Mimi," Jace looked and sounded tired. "All of you, into the boat. The non-light crew will be taking the private ferry back." Jace of course wanted to make sure that all of his light bearers made it back home without issue, especially his little one and Rose. "Jace, we lost," Gavin said gravely while they loaded one by one into the medium sized speedboat. There weren't enough seats, "It's alright, I'll just sit on Rose's lap."

Without asking, Miiko clambered up next to her and plopped herself down on Rose's legs, pulling Rose's arms around her as though she were a warm seat belt. "Okay, we're ready!" Jace nodded and pushed off from shore, starting up the engine. "Next time we'll already have the rest of our islands prepared, that way they can put up barriers that won't allow L's forces inside." Was it genius or madness glinting in Jace's eyes? "Nino is already working on an emergency system."

It was a mission failure, there was no two ways about it. The sting of disappointment was biting, they couldn't protect Jaspar at all, in the end. Mayor Lindon had tried but in the end the best he could do was make sure Jaspar remained independent for a little while longer. But the people had all but lost faith in his ability to protect them now, especially considering that their children were going to be taken and there was nothing they could do to prevent it. "Lets go, Caster." Rose whispered, taking the tiny pink haired princess by the hand with Gavin's prompting. They couldn't risk being seen and taken away, that would make this defeat even worse than before. They made their way to the boat where Jace was waiting, not wanting to see the faces of the families being torn apart.

Even Jellyfish wasn't happy, and the girl looked as if nothing could ever get her down. She was drawing pictures to express herself and none of them were happy ones, all with varying degrees of sadness and shame attached to them. "It'll be okay, Miiko's right." Daisy said in her gentle voice. "We won't lose again, this was our first time as a big team so it's normal!" The Rebellion's centralized fighting force wasn't even at their strongest, because they didn't have enough time to truly shore up Jaspar's defenses. "Are you okay, Miiko?" Rose whispered tot he girl on her lap, trying to stay in battle mode even though the usual anxiety and fear was settling in again.

This battle was a brutal one and she wanted to make sure her human was okay. Jace mentioned something about Ninomiya having a system being worked on that would keep them safe from L's armies, that was very much an addition they were going to have to make to protect the shores of Yavin and Ondern. Nino impressed Prisca, honestly, the girl was in a wheelchair yet she didn't let anything stop her in her mechanical genius. "I-I'm sorry you had to fight, Miiko, I sh-should have protected you better so you wouldn't h-have had to!" She felt like a terrible spirit.

"Oh, Jace, we found some vials of chemicals, maybe there's something that can help Athena's condition." Rose added as the private boat was almost back to Yavin where they could get some rest at last. "I hope the magic cure is there." She already lost family, Miiko didn't deserve to have to lose more, she was a spoiled girl but a good one. Rose needed to do better next time to really be worth her.

Gavin frowned at Rose's words. "Miiko, turn out your pockets please," Miiko slowly emptied her pockets of all of the vials and herbs she had taken. "Rose, this is a bad habit of Miiko's, don't encourage it," Gavin warned due to the fact that Jace was busy focusing on not crashing their boats. Gavin gathered all of the glass up and placed them in a bag. "I was trying to help Mommy," Miiko pouted, alright with the attention that she received from Rose. "You protected me fine and besides, it's not like you're my babysitter, I'm supposed to contribute too and I couldn't!" Miiko shook her head, "I just froze up uselessly, like a Doll." Miiko closed her small fists around the cloth of her jacket. "I want to be strong too. I'm a light bearer, so teach me to fight!"

"No," the others replied plain and simple. Miiko looked up at Rose, trying to look sweet and innocent rather than devious. "Rose, will you teach me?" Miiko inquired with a pout, doing her best to look adorable. Gavin and Callum both gave a subtle nod, teaching Miiko how to fight would only result in Miiko insisting on being in the front lines, just like Stella. The last thing the Miya family needed was another one of their daughters being ripped away, if anything, they would prefer that Miiko be on the technical side of things, like Nino. Perhaps she could learn to set off bombs away from the chaos as a distraction? Or perhaps allow her to be a medic so that she could feel as if she were right inside of the action and could help rather than standing uselessly to the side while others protected her.

"At least the basics so I can protect myself!" Miiko took out her knife, the very pretty one that Nino had made for her. "Otherwise I won't know what I'm doing and might stab myself!" She unsheathed it, the knife poised as though it would stab into her own leg. "I wanna learn! I wanna learn! Teach me! Teach me!" Miiko waved the knife around, putting them all on edge. "Alright! Alright! Rose can teach you the basics, now put that thing away!" Daisy yelled, clearly alarmed by Miiko's willingness to hurt herself in order to get what she wanted. "Yay!" Miiko closed the knife and placed it back inside of her coat pocket. They had now reached the shores of Yavin and were quickly coming into port.

Miiko was ready to train now, but she did realize that everyone was tired and more than likely wanted nothing more than to eat dinner and go to bed. "We'll start tomorrow," Miiko said to Rose and tugged on her sleeve. She pointed over her shoulder towards the service tunnel, wanting to explore this side of the island before it got dark. They had lost yes and Miiko wanted to talk to Rose about a thing or two before retiring up in the tree.

Rose's eyes narrowed at Gavin and before she could say anything Callum stepped in, arrogant swagger following each step. She didn't like others chastising her Caster, Miiko didn't need to be tied down by these people. Rose decided to ignore him and glare hard at Gavin instead, battle mode somehow activating. "I can discipline her well enough." She said sternly, hands ready to summon her rapier. "But she only wanted to help her mother, there is no selfishness in that." Right then Callum pushed himself to block for Gavin, spirit gun on hand. "Yes, because you're really the paragon of morality." He scowled at Prisca, who refused to flinch in the face of her worst enemy. "Don't you know how many lives were ruined because of what you did?" But Prisca was in her strong mode right now, and her rapier flicked up threateningly. "If you didn't push me, I wouldn't have had to."

They were interrupted then by Miiko making her desires known. She wanted to be taught to fight. "Of co-" But then both Gavin and Callum spoke over her, both of them saying that they didn't want Miiko fighting. But, well, that wasn't going to change the Spirit's answer, of course not. Her job was to abide by her Caster's will, no one else had authority over her, not even Jace. "I answer only to you, Miiko." Rose said with an affirmative nod, ignoring the glares from the others. She stepepd forward and put the knife into her own hand, rearranging it in Miiko's hold in order to help make it better. "And don't wave it around blindly, you should think of it as a tool to protect, not to hurt." Well, whatever the case, it was time to get off the boat.

Miiko led Rose away from the others, taking their own path through the island, to explore or whatever else they might need to do. With the current issue dealt with, Rose rather quickly reverted back to her default state, rather than the artificial one that had been forced into her by the scientists at the American Light Bearer Facility. "W-we should start... um, training once tomorrow comes... p-probably?" Rose said, fidgeting with every syllable. The sun was still up but it was almost ready to turn the sky orange into a brilliant sun set, a show of lights and colors decorating the ocean's rippling. "I-is there something y-you wanted, Miiko?" Prisca wrung her hands in a fit of anxiety.

The two made their way past the service tunnel and now they were more or less alone. This changed world would never stop giving Prisca a sense of having stepped into a whole other universe with how different yet painfully familiar everything was. "D-did I do s-something wrong?" Fear filled her eyes and she stared down at the floor. "I-I'm sorry, I'll do better, I pr-promise..." Timid like a mouse, wasn't she?

It was nice being away from the crowd, just being with Miiko. The others could get noisy and annoying, it made it hard to think - not to mention all the people were quite overwhelming for the shy and timid Prisca who couldn't look anyone in the eye, not even her own Caster. Like this they could speak freely - or as free as Rose ever was. "I'm your Spirit, s-so it's my job to b-be an extension of your will." The Goddess told her this, that she would be the fifth limb for her Caster. Then her face went red and she looked down at her feet. "B-but... I feel like a b-big sister to you, so, um... I w-want to help you grow... into a w-wonderful Caster." It wasn't her job to try and discipline and teach Miiko, but she knew it would only help her Caster in the long run.

But to call the frightened mouse a challenge to the playful spoiled kitten was a wonder in and of itself. Rose wasn't sure what else to say about that so she just blushed heavily and writhed under Miiko's smile. Yavin really was pretty in an eerie way, looking almost like a graveyard mourning what was once there, a hundred years ago. And then Miiko asked the strangest question. "I - I'm not a spy!" Rose's eyes burned with hurt, did she really come off as suspicious like that? "B-but that's what... a real spy w-would say... um...." Oh, here was a way to prove it, maybe? Rose clasped her hand around Miiko's specifically the hand that held the plastic rose. "That rose, if you break it, I-I'll die for real."

A grim yet inviting smile rose on Prisca's cheeks. She wanted Miiko at the very least to trust her, so she had to toss away her shy persona for the time being. "If I ever br-break your trust, then if you shatter the rose, I will die. Pl-please don't hesitate to do so if you need to." She wanted Miiko to trust her, to rely on her, because Rose had grown fond of the spoiled little kitty cat. "N-now... should we go get some sleep?"

-----------

The Red Fleet couldn't take over Tora, but there was a juicy target just waiting to be captured. "So it's true, First Mate Annie?" Captain Varus, the leader of the Red Fleet, asked his Spirit. She grinned wickedly, eyes sparkling. "Yes, the scout's report tells us that L is on a boat right now, with many kidnapped children with him." Varus nodded, thinking carefully, but really, what was there to truly worry about? "Well, I suppose it's time for us to rescue some little kiddies, isn't it?" They didn't know the kids were sick, all they knew was that L was on the open sea headed back to his home base... and this was the perfect opportunity for the Red Fleet to strike. "We're the heroes from the shadows, we'll be the ones to save the world from his greed!" As the sun set burned the ocean red, the Red Fleet made it's move.

Miiko let go of the black plastic rose she wore around her neck, allowing it to touch her skin once again "Of course I'm not gonna break it stupid!" Miiko stuck her tongue out and crossed her arms. She turned face Rose once again, "I'm not gonna kill you, you're useful, but if you are a spy, I won't hesitate to throw you away." Miiko would believe Rose for now and that was the end of her interrogation. Miiko wanted to be useful, but she didn't want to accidentally betray the Rebellion. Even if she was the daughter of Jace and Athena, they would not hesitate to boot her off the island if Miiko proved to be the leak in the flow of information. If it wasn't Rose, it meant that the leak must be coming from somewhere else. "I think our first mission as rebels of the rebellion should be to find out who is leaking information to the Republic."

Miiko opened up the door to the service tunnel, leading Rose out onto the rocks. It was in this very spot that Miiko nearly drowned oh so long ago, when she and Stella had only been innocent children who had no idea what a light bearer or war was. "Hey! Hey! Rose!" Miiko turned to face her, "you're a soldier right, do you know how to interrogate people?" If they were going to play detective then at least one of them needed to know how to properly conduct an interview without arousing the suspicion of any of the rebels. The sun was setting, the air was growing colder by the minute, but despite the pink tinge in Miiko's cheeks she was not yet ready to return to the World Tree where the others would scold her for staying out so late. Miiko skipped over the rocks, being careful of the ice.

"It's slippery, so watch your step!" They were going to need to go about this sensitively, but how? If Miiko wasn't going to be allowed to fight, or at least, learn in front of the others, then she wanted to contribute and surprise them all with the information that she and Rose had gathered. What if her Dad decided to give them missions in order to occupy them? When would they find the time to train and sneak around? "You can't tell anyone about our mission, okay Rose? Especially not Gavin!" As much as Miiko loved Gavin, she knew that his worrying would only lead him to telling Jace and then Jace would scold Miikok for sneaking around and putting herself in danger. Perhaps it was an airhead move to not seek the approval of the other members of the rebellion, but Miiko knew that they would only put her down.

When the word interrogation popped up, Prisca felt a chill run down her spine, and it wasn't particularly a pleasant one at all. Yes, she knew all about interrogation techniques. All you needed to do was add pain and desperation and eventually you'll receive answers. Whether or not the answers are the truth are a whole different story... but with enough stories from enough victims, you'll eventually be able to piece together a certain truth from all the fragments you've harvested from your garden. "I know about interrogation." Rose admitted with a low hiss. No, compared to her days in the shadows, she very much preferred being a fighter on the front line, it was less gruesome, more honorable that way, as much as she hated fighting, she hated torturing even more. "If it's what you wish, then I'll help you for the mission."

Oh, when had she slipped back into this mode? She shook her head, allowing her head to slide back into her normal self. Well, she would have, but with the idea of interrogation buzzing about, battle mode was stuck for now. Already a plan had come to mind, she knew exactly how she wanted to go about this. "First we need disguises. If we're going to interrogate, we can't have the victims know who we are." That was the key, they needed to protect their identities. "The best way to go about this is to pretend we have a third torturer with us." She thought about this and then nodded. "I'll dress up as a male Republic soldier, and alternate at times as a female." Her hair was short enough to make it work, as well, unlike Miiko. "With a clever enough wig we could hide your hair, Miiko, and with bindings we can hide my breasts."

The next day the two spent their time training and they did another supply run to Ondern to help them branch out southward and make new allies. And once that was finished, it was time to put their plan into motion. First, Rose managed to find an uninhabited corner of Yavin Island, and it wasn't too hard to jump in in a disguise, cut the bullet off of Gavin's necklace before Callum could manifest, and then knocked him out before he could pull off her black cape. "Don't worry, Miiko, we won't hurt him, we'll just trick him into telling us what we need to know" It was a fact that Rose didn't know enough about the rebels, so the best way to begin her search would be like this, to tap into a source of information that did know.

"When he wakes up, Miiko, you should hide in this room and scream and beg and cry not to be hurt." This corner was quiet enough that no one was around to overhear the sound, especially coupled with the roar of the sea tides crashing against the rock base of Yavin. "If he knows anything, he'll tell us in order to save you." Donning her male disguise she went and then waited for Gavin to wake up as the moon's light poked through holes in the ceiling.

"We won't hurt anyone, will we?" Miiko asked, "I don't want to hurt any of the rebels, I just want to find out who is the traitor so that Daddy can take care of them." Then, once the leak was taken care of they would be able to organize the front line without anyone expecting the attack. "So don't go all ninja on everyone, because I just want information, I don't want to hurt anyone." Miiko kicked a pebble between the rocks, losing her footing and slipping. She hit her butt hard and groaned, it seemed as though it was about time to head back up. "Alright, let's go up to bed, I'm sure Mommy and Daddy are worried." Miiko led the way with a slight limp, her butt now hurting from having fallen. That wouldn't put a damper on her mood of course, now that she and Rose had a mission of their own they were going to be too busy to go treasure hunting.

Miiko thought about all of the things that Rose had said and wondered if she and Rose were now going to need costumes. Would Rose do all of the interviewing? Would Miiko get to do any of them? "I want to ask some questions too!" Miiko pipped up as they sat in the car going up to the top of the tree. The sun had set, the night was frigid and the wind and snow had stuck to Miiko's hair and eyelashes, turning her cheeks just as pink as her windswept locks. "I can get us costumes, I'm good at that," Miiko beamed, bragging about the one skill she was good at; obtaining belongings that may or may not exclusively belong to Miiko. Miiko looked down at her own chest, keeping one hand on the lever that brought them up the tree. "Hmm, I guess I won't need to worry about that, will I? It's okay, I'm still growing! One day I'll be tall and busty like Stella!" The brat giggled.

The next day was full of activity. As promised, Miiko obtained three sets of costumes and several wigs so that they could have interchangeable characters. Somehow they had lured Gavin and Callum onto this part of the island, into an old, crumbling building that used to serve as what they called a sheriff's office. "Why do you get to have all of the fun?" Miiko asked, swinging her legs while she watched Rose put on the fake uniform. Miiko rolled her eyes, "I know we're not actually gonna hurt anyone." She glanced in the mirror to check on her makeup for the fake bruises, there was a bandage over her nose and two fake cuts, one across her forehead and the other on her hands. Some bruises were real, from the fight on Jasper or from training today with Rose.

"Scream and beg, I can do that." Miiko went into the other room and closed the door, listening. When th interviewing started, Miiko began to scratch on the door. "Please!" She whimpered, "Please, don't hurt me! Let me out!" Miiko was good at making believe, it was one of those things that Miiko had practiced when there was something she wanted.

"Don't worry." Rose assured Miiko, patting her head like a big sister would, not wanting her Caster to be afraid or anything. Sure, maybe in the beginning she had planned on full out torture... but thankfully, Miiko didn't want that, so Rose was now barred from doing that kind of interrogation. "We won't hurt anyone, we'll only be tricking information out of them." Miiko fell on her butt then and Rose helped her up with a sigh, they really ought to go to bed and prepare for the day. "Y-yes, of c-course you can ask questions!" Prisca squeaked, feeling nervous all over again now that it was time to go back to the Tree of Life and sleep. "O-one day, you'll be whatever you want to be." Yes, Miiko was a very tiny human, but Prisca knew that even if her body didn't grow, her heart definitely would.

After much preparation, things were finally ready and the first target to interrogate was Gavin and Callum. Well, mostly just Gavin because Callum was attached to the bullet that Prisca was now holding. In this dark room, Gavin was tie to a table, all of his limbs held down by belts, he had a thick blindfold over his eyes so that he couldn't see anything. Rose deepened her voice then, trying to sound as masculine as possible. "Welcome to some funtime." Rose giggled with a psychotic sneer as she looked upon the confused and afraid Gavin. "We just want to ask you a few questions, you won't have a problem with that, will you?" She could feel Gavin's hard stare from behind the blindfold. "I won't tell you anything, you Republic dog." He hissed, straining against the bonds. "You cowards, you can't even fight me with my Spirit at my side!"

"We don't have to play by the rules, silly." Rose countered, running her fingers down Gavin's cheek, cupping his chin, making him shudder and thrash, trying to throw her hands off. "Of course we strike when you're vulnerable, we're not morons." Gavin was being stubborn, but Rose knew exactly what to do. "I'm not going to tell you anything!" He shouted and right on queue, Miiko began her show, making Gavin's entire body stiffen with rage. "She was just a child." Gavin muttered and Rose giggled wildly. "I know, she was so easy to break, wasn't she?" There was nothing but hatred coming off of Gavin, but he also looked almost defeated, in a way.

"Jaren sold us out, didn't he?" Gavin's voice sounded washed out, he was trembling now. "F-fine, ask your questions, but you have to let Miiko go. She's a kid, she doesn't deserve this." Jaren? That was very interesting indeed, not that that name meant anything to her. "Why would Jaren help us?" Rose asked and Gavin grimaced. "His young son was one of the kids taken by your leader at Jaspar." Well, if anything, that definitely sounded like a motive to switch sides, didn't it? "Well, I should let some of my friends come and ask questions as well." She waggled her finger, beckoning Miiko from the door, it was her turn to shine.

Rose was much better at interrogation than Miiko ever could be. How was Rose good at so many things? Miiko didn't know, but she would have liked to see Rose and Stella go up against each other. Perhaps one day in battle they would team up? If Miiko ever got around to saving her older sister. Even now she felt guilty for being allowed to play outside while Stella was no doubt suffering in some prison on Capitol City. Miiko's little hands balled into fists, those Republic scum would pay for what they did to her family, for what they had done to all of those families in Jasper. You couldn't just separate children from their parents! Did they not realize how cruel a punishment this was? Especially when those children were dying! That pathetic Mayor didn't help either and already the resentment was growing inside of Miiko for those people.

"Someone help me, it hurts!" Miiko scratched at the walls, trying hard not to giggle. To her this was nothing but a game, even though Gavin was more than likely terribly scared and wondering if Miiko was hurt. How would they explain to him afterwards that everything was alright? That Miiko wasn't actually hurt? Perhaps they would just knock him out and tell him it was all just a bad dream? When Gavin mentioned Jaren, Miiko stiffened. Jaren? Why would he have betrayed them? It was true that Jaren had a sick child, however, and he had moved to Jasper to be closer to medical care. It was very realistic to think that he could have been the one to sell them out. Miiko's hands balled into fists once again more. She hit the wall separating her from Rose a few times, putting in a few grunts of effort.

At long last it was Miiko's turn to play the bad guy. She rolled up her sleeves and shivered, promptly rolling them back down. Miiko cleared her throat, then pinched the bridge of her nose to give a higher nasal quality to her inflection. "Well, well, well, what do we have here? Rebel scum," Miiko grinned and sent a wink in Rose's direction. She was having fun with this, even if they were technically working. "What do you know about Project Topaz?" Miiko jabbed him in the leg with a gloved hand. "I'll never tell," Gavin growled and Miiko grinned, giving an evil cackle. "Then we'll have no choice but to hurt your little friend more." Miiko let go of her nose and whimpered. "Gavin, please just give them what they want," she choked back fake tears.

"Fine," Gavin let out a low growl. Miiko motioned for Rose to take notes. "Project Topaz is the rebellion initiative to produce a larger network of rebels underneath the main cities united by the Republic." Miiko jabbed him in the leg once more. "Is that all?" She sneered and Gavin stiffened, "What would be the point of such an infiltration?" Gavin set his jaw, "so that when the time comes, we can dismantle the islands from right under their feet."

Rose took a step back, allowing Miiko to take the forefront as the new interrogator to get whatever information she could out of Gavin. It was an unfortunate truth that Miiko was kept in the dark about many things - Jace most likely informed Gavin and Jellyfish of things since they were main fighters, while under the justification of protection, keeping Miiko from getting involved as much as possible. That would no longer be so easy now that she was a Caster, however. Similarly, she had never even heard about Project Topaz before. Miiko was doing quite well with her two voices, one being herself and the other being a Republic soldier. "Now that we know about the Project, it should be easy for us to disrupt it." Rose said in a cheery voice. "The Republic is proud of your assistance, rebel."

That was when they heard singing just outside. Of course Jellyfish and Daisy would have been on the search with the other two pairs having gone missing and now they had found it. Gavin grinned from his spot. "Don't worry, Miiko, the others are here! They'll stop these soldiers, you'll be safe!" Rose grit her teeth, how were they going to get out of this one! "Let's return to the Capitol, we're done here." Rose said loudly, lifting up Miiko and running to a side room. She lowered her voice into an urgent whisper. "Take the outfits far away, can you do that?" She glanced back when she heard the explosion of many bubbles crashing against the walls of the building. "Pretend you were tickled as torture." Prisca then produced her rapier and slashed it across her body, her legs, her chest, blood oozed out in a thick descent as it stained her skin and her clothes.

The door burst open then, revealing a newly arrived Callum from the lucky bullet Prisca dropped. Jellyfish was there, bubbles floating around her hands, waiting to be sent in a direction, and Daisy had her microphone spear out, ready to cut anyone. "They got away." Prisca hissed, clutching at her wounds because they really hurt. "I'm sorry, Miiko, for letting you get caught." Jellyfish and Gavin both went to Miiko's side then, the two fussing over the little princess's wellbeing. "Did they hurt you? What did they do?" Gavin asked in a slightly panicked voice and even the carefree Jellyfish was patting the smallest girl on the shoulder in some form of attempt to comfort.

As this was happening, the battle in the open sea near the Capitol City was finished. It was a draw, really, both sides did their best. Some said that it was a miracle the Red Fleet managed to hold their ground but Captain Varus knew full well that they could rescue some of the hostages during this raid and escape mostly unscathed. It was all because of his Spirit, Annie's power. What she could do was create ghost ships to help fight, increasing the size of the Red Fleet by double, making them much stronger than they could initially appear to be. Weak on land, powerful at sea. "We rescued a few of the kids." Varus said with a nod as his crew brought them on board into a cordoned-off area, a makeshift quarantine. Annie nodded, her red hair bristling with the wind. "Let's take them back to Jaspar, I'm sure they miss their parents." Varus sported a wicked grin then. "Assuming they let us close enough to give them their kids back..." Because red ships were still disallowed to dock, after all.

Miiko was not sorry that she had to do this in order to find out information. If she hadn't, no one would have told her anything about Project Topaz or Jaren. Now that they knew there was possibly a traitor in their midst, Miiko was well aware of their next target. "I can take them," Miiko grabbed the uniform and stuffed it into a hiding spot, then bound back over, locking herself inside of one of the old jail cells. There she sat, with Rose on the other side, the two of them trying to look defeated and hurt when really, their first mission had been a startling success. Miiko pinched one of her real bruises hard to evict tears from her tear ducts and kept her gaze on the ground, purposely breathing hard. It was with a bit of effort that Miiko made herself cry for real, thinking about what would happen if she lost Stella or her Mommy.

When the door exploded by way of bubble, Miiko's head jerked up in feigned surprise. "You came," the jail cell wall was torn from its position, rubble falling into the water below. Gavin and Jellyfish flocking to Miiko's side while she dried her fake tears, smearing dirt across her cheeks. "Of course we came!" Gavin took Miiko into his arms, holding her tight while Daisy and Callum worked to get Rose out of her cell. "It's alright, the important thing is that you're safe," Gavin said to Rose's admittance of being unable to protect Miiko. "Does it hurt anywhere? What did they do to you?" Gavin asked, raising Miiko to her feet. Miiko shook her head, her limp was one of the few things that she was not faking. Falling and hurting herself on that rock yesterday had bruised her tailbone nicely. "They mostly hit me a few times and um, tickled me." Gavin raised an eyebrow, "tickled?" That was one method of torture he had never hurt of.

"They hurt Rose a lot though!" Miiko pointed to her poor spirit who had slashed herself a few times with her sword. "Let's get them back up the tree, I'm sure Jace and Athena will know what to do." Daisy helped Rose out since Callum refused to go near her despite her injured state. Gavin insisted on carrying Miiko across the rugged landscape and to the little boat that Daisy and Jellyfish had taken to find them. Back up in the tree, Miiko felt a little bit guilty watching her Mommy and Daddy make a fuss over her and Rose, bandaging their wounds and offering the two of them hot food to warm up. "I'm sorry we couldn't fight them off and capture them," Miiko said with much regret. Athena hugged Miiko, giving her a kiss on the forehead. "The important part is that you're alive. Very few make it out of Republic hands as whole as you and Rose did."

Yui sat in the corner, trying to read. Any time a noise came from outside of her safe room, she would squeak. Whenever a door creaked or a wall thumped, Yui would jump. She kept expecting him to come back, to show up out of nowhere and take her away to one of those rooms where they would poke and prod her. It was never torture, but Yui was always waiting for it. The worst thing L did was take Yui's blood, or force her to do exercise so that her muscles wouldn't atrophy. Without warning, the door burst open. Yui cowered, throwing the book away from her body and curling up with her hands over her head in order to protect herself. "What are you doing?" L demanded, approaching the glass. With shaking limbs, Yui looked up, peaking out from behind her arms to brave a glance. "N-n-nothing," Yui stuttered, her voice hardly above a whisper. L shook his head, "is the list done?" Yui nodded, sliding the piece of paper over to the slot in the door. L reached through, taking the list from Yui. He read down it, his grin growing. "Good work and as for your reward, as promised, you get three new books." He reached into his side bag and pulled out three books, sticking them one by one through the slot.

"Th-that's n-no-not wha-what I w-w-wanted," Yui lifted up one of the books and clutched it to her chest. "I'm not letting you go upstairs," L replied with finality. With that he whirled around, cape swishing, and disappeared.

Eventually the team was gathered again back in the World Tree, where Jace and Athena made their abode. Everyone had fallen for the trick, it had worked so much more smoothly than Rose could have thought, even as her wounds were stitched back up, one painful prick at a time, courtesy of Athena, since they didn't have an official doctor here or anything. "I'm okay, really, I'm just glad it was me who was cut instead of Miiko." She winced but was glad for the pain because in a way, it kept her alert, it kept her in battle mode where she was able to be strong and coherent rather than a whimpering little mess that couldn't do anything right. "The six of us are a team." Daisy said with a smile. "So don't go getting caught again, Jellyfish was so worried!" The nearly mindless little twerp blushed then and there and looked away, confirming Daisy's words.

Jace was glad that they were all doing better now, but he had a mission to assign them as well. "It's not urgent, but we do have a mission. This one we can't send the whole army for, because it's rather sensitive." He looked doubtful however, upon looking at them, especially the idea of sending Miiko on a high risk mission. But they were running out of options, they needed to do whatever they could. Rose's ears perked up, she was eager to find out what it was. "Spirits heal faster, so don't worry about my stitches." Rose said quickly, happy to not be stuttering over every other word. Jace sighed and nodded, as if he was trying to talk himself into saying it once and for all. Athena, frail and sick, took a deep breath then because her husband was hesitating so much.

"From an island to the north, Aurum, we received a transmission from a pair of siblings." She explained, showing them the letter with some sort of family seal. "We knew them before all of this, their parents were genius technology manufacturers. But when Aurum was taken over by L, we thought their whole family was killed." The seal looked very familiar, there was a company from her day and age with that same logo. "VorTech." Rose said quietly, and both Daisy and Callum nodded with recognition. They knew it as well. "The Vorkov family was close friends with the Miya family for a long time." Jace said softly, probably remembering his dead friends who vanished during the Aurum takeover.

"The children of the scientists, twins, they sent us this letter asking for help escaping Aurum." The CEO of VorTech, Viktor, and his daughter, Allyana, from their time, Prisca remembered that the two of them were knee deep in the light bearer conspiracy. Was it such a surprise that the Miya family that spawned Stella and Miiko, two light bearers, was somehow connected to the Vorkov family? "Sanaa and Kennan were working in the research facility built by L on Aurum." Athena said, reading off the letter. "When suddenly they both discovered their light bearing mark. They need our help to get to safety here in Yavin, but if we sent a big army, there's no way it'd be unseen."

Before Gavin could volunteer the six of them Jace spoke up. "Before I just send you all there, I need to make sure you're all able to protect Miiko." He said fiercely, he wasn't going to budge on this topic. "If not, she and Rose will just have to stay here."

Miiko did not think much of her bumps and bruises, she attempted to remain inconspicuous by appearing as though it hurt. She gave little winces and hisses her and there to authentic the act when in truth only a few of the bruises and cuts were real. Miiko hoped that she wasn't over selling it, but with each yelp or whimper her Father's concern seemed to grow and his touch became ever so gentle. "Better?" Miiko nodded and gently touched the bandage on her forehead. "Thanks Daddy," Miiko gave him a hug and went to sit by Rose's feet. They gathered around the table when Jace began with a sigh that he had a mission for them. "A mission?" Miiko jumped to her feet, "I want to go." Despite appearing beaten down, Miiko was already prepared to get back into the action. Jace was hesitant for obvious reasons, the first being that Miiko had supposedly just been kidnapped by Republic agents, which meant that they would know who Miiko and Rose were and to look out for them.

"We can protect them," Gavin nodded. "Those Republic bastards took me by surprise, but combined with Jellyfish and Daisy, Callum and I can take them." Miiko felt a pang in her stomach, not guilt, perhaps butterflies? She had never heard of VorTech, she didn't know who these people were, but if someone was in need of rescuing then you could be darn well sure that Miiko and Rose would save them! "I'm brave and strong, just like Stella! I can protect myself and if I can't, then Rose can!" Miiko insisted. It was clear that Jace still didn't want to send them, but Athena placed a hand in his shoulder to stop him from denying her this chance. "Alright Miiko, if you really want to go then we won't stop you. I trust that the others can protect you," if Athena lost Miiko the same way she had lost Stella, it would kill her.

"You'll be leaving tonight. Aurum is a long boat ride away, so you'll be leaving via private ship." Jace informed them, "the mission shouldn't take longer than four days, I expect to receive word from you the moment you reach Aurum." Miiko grabbed Rose's hand, "Let's go pack!" She didn't listen to the rest of Jace's speech, Miiko wanted to share a private moment with Rose in her bedroom, away from the others. "We won't be able to investigate Jaren if we're away," Miiko said quietly, stowing the notes they had taken today underneath her mattress so that her parents would not find them. Miiko grabbed out a bag and began to stuff clothes inside. "I've never heard of Aurum, I wonder if it's warm there?"

Some islands remained warm throughout the year despite the fact that it was cold on Yavin, which greatly confused Miiko. "How can it be cold in one place and then warm in the next at the same time?" Miiko packed both a bathing suit and winter coat. The last item that went into her bag was the bitter rabbit toy which she had wrapped inside of her nightshirt. "Okay, I'm all ready. Let's go pack your things so that you'll be ready to go when the boat gets here." Miiko led Rose to Stella's room and rummaged through Stella's belongings for a bag.

It took a little bit but with Gavin's reassurance that they were strong enough to keep his precious baby daughter safe, Jace finally agreed to allow Miiko and Rose to take part on this operation, the mission to extract the twin siblings Sanaa and Kennan Vorkov from the northern island of Aurum. Even Miiko was speaking on her own behalf that she wanted to go. "I won't let anyone touch her." Rose said with absolute determination. Just like in Jaspar, her number one priority was Miiko's safety, and during that fight, no enemy managed to land a hit on the princess. Jace began the briefing then, telling them how long it would take to arrive at their destination, telling them what to do when arriving and all the other details they would need to know. "The siblings will contact you upon arrival." Athena said with a cheery smile. "From there, you'll have to collaborate together and figure out how to get back to Yavin."

With that done, Rose and Miiko retreated to the latter's room, since they needed to prepare for the trip. Jellyfish had fallen asleep midway through and Daisy was gently prodding her awake to sing the instructions to the silly careless girl and Gavin and Callum were already discussing the fancy tech they would buy from Aurum's markets once they got the chance. They needed to discuss their findings after all, and what they would do from here. "W-we could, um, maybe leave an anonymous tip?" Rose suggested, twiddling her thumbs as Miiko packed whatever they might need. In Prisca's case, clothes. "So Jaren won't c-cause trouble while we're gone..." Already she reverted back to blushing and being her default self, the self that Prisca hated so much because it was this self that turned Callum in and got everyone killed. If it wasn't for her - if she didn't exist then-

With all the winter things they were made to pack, it became obvious that no, the northern city of Aurum was most definitely not going to be warm. They were gathered at the docks now, and even Jellyfish was all bundled up in a big furry coat, ready for the journey ahead. "The boat is specially made by Nino." Gavin explained as they waited for the pickup. "It can evade any radar or other sensor the Republic might have, so we won't have to worry about being caught." No, the hard part would be after arriving on Aurum. "It's very different from Yavin, Rose." Daisy said with a half smile as they waited in the darkening light of the day. "Yavin's full of pretty nature, Aurum's almost completely mechanical, urban, like a futuristic factory." Rose nodded timidly. "I'm l-looking forward to seeing it..."

And then the boat arrived, a private boat, smaller than the ferry they took to Jaspar and Tora the other day, but still not small, either. It looked made from scrap, yet also incredibly intricate and efficient as well. It truly was a marvel. "Apparently Sanaa's a practicing nurse, so we could have her help Athena once we get back." Callum muttered, not looking Prisca in the eye. Their mutual hatred ran very deep. "It's almost eight hours of boating, so we should sleep while we're safe here." As long as they didn't pass the Red Fleet and ended up being targets, they would be okay. Rose held a hand out to Miiko. "D-do you want me to h-help you on?"

"Leave a tip?" Miiko hadn't considered this, "okay, we'll do that!" Miiko took out a piece of paper and quickly scribbled it down. "How about this? Jace, the snitch's name is Jaren." Once the message was approved, Miiko sneaked out of her room to place the paper on a desk. Hopefully Jace would see this while they were gone and would take care of Jaren by the time they returned. "Ready to go? The boat is waiting for us!" Miiko adjusted her scarf and hoisted up her bag. The last time she had gone on a boat overnight it was to navigate to the battlefield where Miiko had lost Stella. If finding Sanaa and Kennan, or whatever their names were, would lead to Miiko finding Stella then Miiko would be as attentive as ever during this rescue. She was not going to give up on rescuing her sister from the Republic, even if everyone else all but considered her dead.

Sure, no light bearer had ever emerged from that city alive, but Miiko was not giving up hope. Even Gavin, the boy that Stella had fallen in love with, wouldn't speak of her disappearance. They visited her grave, cried over the marker, left flowers, but never considered the fact that she was still alive. Or at least, Miiko thought so. She hoped and prayed everyday that Stella would continue to hold out until Miiko could save her. "Let's get to the boat," Miiko helped Rose out of the house, the sky now dark and the tree trunk covered in a thick sheet of ice. If they were heading north, the temperature would only continue to drop. "Hey, you brought gloves right? Fingers and toes are always the first thing to go with a bad case of frostbite!"

"Eight hours!?" Miiko groaned, it wasn't as though they had a magical boat that could soar through the sk and go around the islands with ease. Until then, they would use boats. "I can get up on my own, thanks," Miiko skipped onto the boat, exploring the surface. She dumped her bag in the corner and headed up to the bow, the engine gunning to life. "I can't believe Nino had time to build this, she's amazing, isn't she?" Miiko turned to face Rose, who Miiko thought would be equally impressed by the girl whose legs didn't work. "Miiko, it's late, you should go to bed!" Gavin scolded, watching her settle down at the front of the ship as though she were going to stay there all night. Gavin lifted Miiko up around the middle, "Rose, we were tasked with protecting Miiko and part of that protection is putting her to bed." He placed Miiko back down beside Rose, "bed, both of you." With a huff Miiko rolled around on her heels and grabbed Rose's wrist, stomping away.

She went downstairs, to the small area with two bedrooms and one bathroom. It was warmer down here, closer to the engine. Bed mats had been rolled out, one room for the girls and one room for the guys. Miiko changed into her pajamas and settled down onto a bed mat in the corner. "Goodnight Rose, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite." Miiko placed the rose underneath her pillow, knowing that Rose would disappear as soon as she fell asleep.

High school was a time to flourish, a time to truly bloom into the person you were going to become as an adult, for the future. And the twin sisters were as different as night and day, one always shone brightly as a star, quickly drawing people to her with her natural charisma and energy. Essie was born to be popular, she attracted attention everywhere she went with her stunning confidence and happy-go-lucky smile that no one could truly resist. In comparison Prisca was mostly friendless. It wasn't like she was bullied or anything, but other than her sister Essie, she didn't know how to let anyone in, she closed herself off, hiding behind a mask of stutters and blushes to keep everyone at bay. "This is high school, you need to meet new people, Prissie." Essie said with a sad sort of smile. "You can't rely on me forever, you know?"

The two sisters were currently hiding out in the bathroom after their homeroom teacher, Miss Burns, invited them to join the Library Club because of their exemplary minds. Essie was all for it, she was excited to get to meet new people and for a chance for her Prissie to try and break out of her shell. Prisca however was far from excited - her anxiety was so bad that she dragged Essie to the bathroom to try and avoid it and delay the meeting for as long as possible. "N-no! I only need you, Essie!" Prisca whimpered, clinging to her precious sister even harder than before. "I don't n-need anyone e-else, so..." But Essie didn't look happy about that at all, not one bit. If anything, her twin-tailed sister seemed sad about that, when before she was always happy.

"Prissie." Essie said in a quiet, serious voice, unlike her usual energy and exuberance. "I can't be at your side forever. Sometimes I have to do my own thing too, you know? And if you have panic attacks all the time, I'll always have to worry about you." But then Prissie of course took this the wrong way, her face crumpled, she was about to cry because she interpreted this as Essie breaking off their friendship, their inseparable bond. "Y-you're going to-" Essie bonked foreheads then and there in exasperation. "No! We'll always be best friends, don't you remember the rose?" Essie rubbed her forehead, nursing the bump that had risen from the headbutt. "But sometimes I'll be busy, I can't be with you all the time! You have to learn how to handle yourself without me, sis."

But Prisca, well, she didn't like that idea at all. Why was there any need to learn anything, to meet anyone, all she needed was her sister, wasn't the fine? Why was Essie always saying these weird things, was she getting tired of her? Did she not like being sisters anymore? "I love you, E-Essie, y-you're my only sister, y-you're the only one..." For a second something flickered in Essie's eyes, something that looked distinctly like... disappointment? But then it was covered up by a smile that looked somewhat plastic. "As long as the rose is intact, we'll always be sisters." Essie said and Prisca was happy, cheerfully blinding herself to the truth that she really did let Essie down that day.

"Y-you pr-promised," Yui stuttered, her small frame shaking. "Y-you s-s-said th-that if-if I made th-that list-" Yui stopped to take in a breath, "th-then you wou-would le-let me-me go up-upstairs." L turned back around, arms crossed, the cape of his Republic uniform swishing with every small movement. "I said that I would think about it and I have and decided that such an action would be impossible without alerting the Republic to your presence." Yui understood why he preferred she remain down here, hidden, unable to feed off of the natural light, but she would have liked to go outside and see the sun; something she had not seen in a very long time. It was clear that L felt something, whether it was good or bad, Yui didn't know.

She hugged one of the books to her chest, the crushing loneliness returning. Everyone Yui loved was dead, but she was still here, still living, her body working in perfect order despite the fact that it was over one hundred years old. As small as ever, not having grown an inch since that day on the battlefield, where Yui killed the beautiful world she had lived in. Now she resided in the secret basement of the relative of L, who she had been forced to give a list of everyone she loved, of every light bearer she had ever known to. Not that it mattered, they were all dead. The list was short, Yui's kanji was shaky since she had only learned the little bit that Raven and Ally had taught her. Could L read kanji? Yui doubted so, it would take him a long time to translate that slip of paper with what books they had left.

The list was short, only reading a few names:

Allayana Vorkov, Dr. Leo, Raven Shoku, Aria Matsuri, Mizuki Matsuri, Ronan Hemond, Luna Hemond, Damian, Xavier, and Nemi the dog.

"Are you certain that this is all of them?" Yui nodded her head once, that was everyone she had ever cared about, but there weree many more that Yui had killed. Even now her light bearing mark throbbed just thinking about it. The bag of light hanging off of the IV pole was nearly empty, L would be back soon with someone to change it. "You have an appointment today," Yui stiffened. "As soon as that bag is done they want to get a reading on your light levels," Yui placed the book beside her on the floor and shivered. The concrete walls did nothing to keep the cold out. "I-I do-don't wan-want t-to s-s-see th-them." She spoke quietly, afraid that he would hear her. If he heard her, he would be mad, L always got mad when Yui protested, telling her she had to take responsibility for the state of the world.

Whenever he did that, Yui would go quiet and begin to sob for if she hadn't destroyed the world then surely she could have gotten some semblance of a happy ending. Aria would have been dead, Ronan would have had to raise Luna alone. With no Mizuki, Yui would have been jailed for her crimes against humanity. The UN would have taken her, but perhaps it would have been better that way? Or maybe by killing everyone she had hit the reset button and given the world a chance to revive without light bearers? "That's right," Yui whispered, looking up as the light dripped in through a tube into her chest. "It's my fault they're all dead."

The battle was over, another island was won. This time it was the city of Contralto, one of the more eastern islands, and it was the gateway to what was once Europe in a world long past. Now it was just Contralto, an island full of music and cultural exchange. But now the only song being played was one of sadness, of mourning, as it was occupied by the forces of L's Republic. "Another victory for us." Lise said with a half smile as she walked through the city. Just as always, L made sure deaths were minimized whenever possible, preferring to force their enemies to lay down their weapons and surrender instead of outright killing them. Lise hardly needed to use her sword at all. "We really should shut up the orchestra, we need a song of triumph and victory!"

Orianna sighed, keeping pace with the undefeated twelve year old girl, slinging her sniper rifle onto her back. "Let them mourn, it's a big change to suddenly be a part of the Republic." Lise scoffed, shaking her head, as the two headed their way back to Contralto's Monument, a large stadium where people could play music and have it echo and reverberate throughout the island.
"What's the big deal? I was happy to join up when my island was taken over." She shot a dirty glare to a passerby before continuing on her way down the brick road. "No one's willing to give L a chance, they just consider him a bad guy because he's taking over places." Ori looked at the child and her heart still felt mixed about the idea of a child being made to fight. L initially protested as well, but when Lise bested him in single combat, he felt confident that she could handle herself.

"People are happy to believe in their preconceptions, so they don't like to reconsider when new evidence arises." Orianna responded and finally the two girls made it back to the Atrium of Light, where a little tiara with a star design on the front rested on a podium. No one knew who was the Caster destined to unlock it, only that it existed. "Stupid. We haven't even done public executions yet." Lise muttered sourly, staring momentarily at Pablo and Sam, the taller lavender-haired man had pushed Sam against the wall, pressing his arm to it, almost pinning the black haired boy with the piercing red eyes there. Sam was grinning as a response, there was definitely something strange going on between them.

The young blonde groaned. "Seriously, what are those two idiots doing?" Orianna then placed her hands over Lise's eyes and steered her in a different direction, allowing the men to flirt as they pleased. "I'll tell you when you're older, okay?" Lise clawed at the hands but to no avail, Ori's gloves were strong and thick. "I'm a killer! I deserve to know!" And that was how the Occupation of Contralto ended, an overwhelming victory for L's forces.

And at last, Nino's special ship arrived at the hidden dock at Aurum, the big factory. One of L's generals, General Cordy, was in charge here, heading the science division of the Republic's government, making the scientists work to come up with new inventions and now they had a new task - to develop a cure for the Black Plague. The children of Jaspar that weren't rescued by the Red Fleet were sent here into quarantine - but for now, the task wasn't to save them, but to extract the Vorkov children, Sanaa and Kennan. "We're finally here." Aurum really was like a giant frozen science facility built into the ice, it was utterly frigid. "It looks like there'll be a blizzard in a few days." Callum commented grimly. "We should try to make this fast, if we can."

Stella Miya was nothing if not resourceful. She had been trapped in this bloody prison for almost five years, but everyday, at six o'clock, they took ten inmates out at a time for a half an hour to enjoy the sunset. Everyday, at six PM, Stella would return to her spot at the fence to watch as the sun sank underneath the ocean and disappeared until the next day. It wasn't the same spot she returned to of course, that would be useless and would get her noticed. No, Stella was looking for a weakness in the fence. Even with the light inhibitors set in place there had to be a way out, but Stella only had ten minutes to look. Her progress was slow, but at last after five years, she had struck gold. "I found one," her heart welled up with joy and quickly Stella turned around to return with the other inmates. Stella did not make friends, she did not talk to the others and it wasn't as though they wanted to be nice to her, the light bearer, the strange girl that cried at night as she anticipated that one day her sister too might be imprisoned here for the same crime; existing.

You see, in L's Republic, it was illegal to be a light bearer. There weren't that many, a handful perhaps, mostly rebels, some murderers, but every cell occupied on Stella's floor contained one who bore the marking of light. Out of fifty cells, perhaps ten of them were used. "Ms. Miya?" Someone stopped in front of her cell, "President L would like a word with you." Stella braced herself, ready for the worst. She walked in compliance with the request to the interview room, where L was waiting, sitting on the other side of a table. Stella's wrists were cuffed to the table in front of her, she had no intention of complying any further. "So, not one lucky Miya, but two." Her heart jumped in her throat, what did he mean, two? L slid a picture across the table, one depicting Miiko holding what looked like a princess wand.

Miiko, adorable, foolish Miiko. What was she doing there? "According to my sources, your little sister is a Caster. It seems as though a reunion might be in order," Stella grit her teeth, leaning forward to meet L across the table. "You will never lay a hand on Miiko, over my dead body." L laughed, "we're not looking to kill anyone," L stood and turned to face the wall. "In fact, there is someone I would like you to meet." L turned back around, his hands behind his back. "You see, she's a very important someone, no one knows she exists because she doesn't and should you try to leak about her existence to anyone, you will be silenced." Stella was curious now, but cautious. Who could be so important that she couldn't exist?

"I'm going to present you with an offer you will be unable to refuse." L sat down on the table, it seemed he was anxious, which meant that Stella could negotiate. "If you speak to her, if you get the information out of her that I have been unable to obtain, I will order my men to ignore Miiko Miya, that is her name, correct?" Stella did not move to confirm it, but the terror in her eyes spoke in volumes that her voice failed to indicate. "If you are successful, no harm will come to little Miiko. However, should you fail, I will not hesitate to smite this threat to our rising nation."

"What do you mean... smite?"

"Why? Isn't it obvious?" Stella hesitated to shake her head, she wasn't sure she wanted her guess to be confirmed. L drew a line across his throat. "Normally I would make an exception for children, but Miiko is a light bearer you see, which means that she is a threat."

"I'll do it," Stella looked up, meeting L's eyes if only out of protest. L's smile was slow, "great. Stella Miya, you now no longer exist." Orianna would probably be the only one curious as to where the light bearer had gone. "What do you mean?! What's going on here!" Stella was grabbed roughly by the shoulders and shoved against the metal table. A needle pricked her shoulder, a terrible feeling of drowsiness overcoming her.

Someone was going through her pockets, she slowly realized. Someone was taking her things. Stella's eyes opened, glancing around the room slowly, landing upon the culprit. Instantly the tiny red head let out a squeak and backed up, clutching something in her hand. "Hey," Stella sat up, rubbing one eye. "Give that back," she held out one hand, demanding what had been taken to be returned. Slowly the girl reached across, placing the doll made of straw in her palm. Stella's hand closed around it, she tucked the toy back into her pocket and turned to face the girl head on. Was this the one? The girl that didn't exist? "I-I-I'm so-sorry," she stuttered pathetically, eyes welling up with tears. She was tiny, if not minuscule, hardly taking up the space of a corner with plenty of room to spare. "I-I s-saw it-it an-and wa-was cu-curious..." she looked away, her eyes a sparkling blue.

This child was noting like Miiko and yet somehow, Stella felt instantly protective. "Who are you?" She asked, her own red hair set ablaze in the artificial light coming from the ceiling, Stella didn't quite understand how it was there. "I-I'm Y-Y-Yui."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Miiko awoke to the sound of Daisy singing. It was soft, a lure one would drop for a fish to reel it in on a hot summer day. Miiko roused, sitting up and scratching her stomach. The room was small, with four sleeping mats, one of which was unoccupied. That's right, Miiko needed to summon Rose. She touched the plastic rose daintily, putting the necklace around her neck and beginning to make preparations for the day. Jellyfish was fast asleep, a snot bubble rising from her nose. "Hey, how come you can materialize while Jellyfish is asleep?" Miiko asked Daisy loudly, which made Jellyfish open one eye lazily to look around. Daisy grinned, "because Jelly is never actually asleep."
Upstairs, they had just reached the shores of Aurum and were preparing to disembark. Gavin knocked on the door to hand out rations to the girls while Callum barked about a storm. "So? If there's a storm it'll give us an easy way to cover our tracks." Callum shook his head, "if there's a storm it'll mean that we won't be able to leave the dock Miiko."
