The day to day lives of a group of people in an urban fantasy setting. Hijinks may ensue.

Introduction

The City is a fairly mundane place. Every morning, people wake up, go to work, go home, and repeat the whole process again. There are bars, stores, and round the clock fast food joints. Some of the people just happen to be vampires, fairies, wizards, werewolves, and just about anything else you can imagine. Basically, all myths are true, and they are your accountants and bartenders and that guy on the street corner yelling. These aren't the guys that are too deeply involved in vampires politics or fairy wars, but your average joes on the fringe.

Some places you might like to know about:

Merlin's Beard (colloquially referred to as Merlin's)
A bar run by a cranky wizard named Lester, it's located on the seedier side of town. Shannon Ivan works as the bartender there.

Coffee of Doom
A coffee shop that sells more than just hot beverages, run by Alexander Valentine. It's also where Simon duMond works.

Some ground rules:

1. No hybrids or Mary Sues. (Well, okay, maybe if you have a really good idea, but no vampires. How can you even be half-vampire?)
2. This is going to be pretty light hearted, if you couldn't tell already, but don't make random things happen just for the giggles.
3. Don't do anything too graphic, but swearing and similar nonsense is allowed. As long as it's close to PG-13, you're good.
4. Just follow general RP courtesy (if you don't know what that is, lurk around for a bit). You know, no godmoding and the like. Speaking of which...
5. Don't be a god. As in, all myths are true, but that doesn't mean you can be Odin.
6. Please do your best to use grammar that would make your high school English teacher proud. I'm not expecting perfection, but at least try.
7. Have fun!

Oh wow, that's a lot of rules. Anyways, try to keep OOC talk in the OOC forum.

I'll try to keep this updated as the story (if there should be such a thing) goes on.

Emily looked around, the house being so quiet. She stood up, dropping her bowl in the sink and walked outside. She rarely ever went out so late, but being in the house alone made her feel uneasy.

She meandered through the streets, looking for somewhere to go - something to do. She didn't recognize anyone she knew, almost everyone was older than her. She tried to steer clear of the grotesque-looking gangs of orcs and demon bikers. Everything was a lot more creepy at night, but it was different. A different she liked, a bit.

She walked passed several stores, stopping at one that said 'Coffee of Doom.' She looked through the glass, seeing two other people inside. 'Sounds interesting.' She thought, walking in.

Shannon woke yet again to the alarm, the night had gone somewhat smoothly. His mind kept wandering back to the Simon fellow. He had run into people before that knew who...well, what he was under his skin. He wasn't sure if he was more upset at the fact he was called a werewolf or if the guy knew.

Werewolves. Blah. He wasn't such a whimsical creature.

Shannon forced himself out of bed as the heat of his anger pulsed through him. He studied himself in the mirror and shook his head. No, no werewolf here. He was a full blown lycan. Proud and...stuff. At least that what was he was told he should be. Shannon scratched his head moving to the kitchen to find something to stop the gnawing of his stomach. He just didn't know why the fact the announcement of him being a werewolf upset him so.

He was surrounded by all sorts of hoo-ha's and crazies. He should fit right in here. He dug into the refrigerator and found a slab of meat, he grinned at the beautiful thing. He pushed all else aside. It was time to feast.

Simon looked at the box in his hand. "Bad shit, huh?" That sounded like pretty much what he expected. "And no, I don't have a car, but I can take my bike. It's not like I haven't been to the gates before. I know who not to - " He stopped.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a girl walk into the shop. She had some kind of magic aura going on, but he wasn't really sure what. Probably some kind of witch, he figured. He called out to her, "Welcome to Coffee of Doom."

He decided to let Alex take this one. He placed the box down, very carefully, on the counter and took off the apron. He threw it under the counter and picked up the box. A sense of unease filled him every time he touched it, but it would be out of his hands soon enough. As he walked towards the door, he continued on from earlier, "Anyways, I know who not to mess with. If I don't come back in an hour or two... Well, that sucks for you. I wouldn't want to be the only one here during the rush."

He was out the door before Alex had a chance to say anything else.

Emily glanced at the guy walking out. "The rush?" She chuckled, feasting her eyes upon the empty coffeehouse. Emily quite liked this 'Coffee of Doom'. It was set up in a notably charming type of way, and was quiet. Much better than her home, of course.

She skipped to the man behind the counter. She didn't know what to choose, so instead she said, "Surprise me." She whipped out her wallet from the messenger bag slung over her shoulder and took a glance inside. "But keep it under 20 bucks, please." She added with a grin.

Alex grinned and grabbed a cup from under the counter,"Sure,it's your funeral."With a quick slide to the right he was at the coffee machine with that grin still plastered to his face."Let's see......Babylonian...babyloooooooooooooooo,"He flicked a switch,he then proceeded to press a button labeled extra strength and poured a red powder into the mug*."Bottoms up."He muttered, sticking the Styrofoam cup under the machine and waiting. The first plop of coffee came five seconds after he'd pushed the button and to be honest,it looked more like melted fudge than coffee.

It took a few minutes for the entire coffee to plop down so Alex took a few more orders and whistled a Jemina Pearl song."And that'll be ten dollars,"He told her,"I have a bottle of brandy under the counter just in case you can't handle it and might need a quick depressant to knock you of the caffeine high.Mind telling me why you'd come into coffee store without knowing whether you'd like any coffee?"

*This is an actual drink. It's just hot cocoa instead of coffee in real life.

Simon was two streets away from the coffee shop when he remembered he had forgotten a tiny detail... "Aw, shit."

About five minutes after he left, he popped his head back into the coffee shop. "Heeey, Alex. Quick question before I'm off for real - What's this guy look like anyways? Vampire I can figure out, but there's normally a bunch of them hanging around there right now..."

He saw that the girl was still there, so he must not have been gone for too long. A familiar smell filled the air. Apparently, she had ordered a Babylonian. He hoped, for her sake, that they weren't out of brandy.

"Oh, um...he's about an inch shorter than you, skinny guy, he's going to be separated from everyone else most likely, you know 'cause of his family." Alex made a face as he tried to bring back any more details that would help. "He's got red hair!" Satisfied that Simon should know everything he needed to find the guy Alex turned around to make sure the girl hadn't run without paying. People who dined and dashed were uncommon in coffee places and even less common in Coffee of Doom.

Alex used only the best magical reinforcements for his shop, several annihilation glyphs placed under the floor mat, the sword he kept under the counter, it didn't seem likely that any thief who chose to steal from him would be living after the event.

Emily glared at the two, wondering what exactly they were talking about. She flicked a ten dollar bill on the counter, looking at the drink. "What the heck is this?" She scrunched up her face, staring at the thick whatever-it-was in the cup.

She turned to the guy behind the counter. "And hey. A lot of places I've been to sell completely different things than you'd think." Emily mumbled, remembering the time she went to a place called 'Hot Cakes'. She figured they would be selling pancakes or breakfast meals, but it turned out to be a naiad stripper's club.

She walked over to a small table, focusing a bit of magic on the cup. She delicately tapped the rim of the drink, instantly turning the liquid inside to something much more, well, liquid-like - and sweeter. She smirked. "Mmm, white chocolate mocha. My favorite!" She smiled, sipping the newly-changed espresso.

Simon glanced at the girl. Huh. She had done some kind of magicky thing to the drink. He kind of wondered why she hadn't just ordered whatever it was in the first place, but who was he to comment? He forgot to ask his boss who he was supposed to be delivering things to. He was hardly a person to judge.

"Gotcha. Red hair. I can remember that. I'll be going for real now."

He backed out of the shop quickly, awkwardly waving goodbye.

Re: [OOC] Look on the Bright Side

Taking a breath, Simon let out a short laugh while the bartender - or rather, Shannon - served another customer. His initial instinct was to politely take his leave and get home as fast as he could. But, he supposed, what was waiting for him? His cat? (Yes, actually, his cat would be waiting. Timothy probably needed to be fed. But the cat could wait for a couple minutes, right? And, really, the cat was pretty self sufficient. Cats can catch mice, can't they? And- oh dear. He was even rambling in his third person monologue.) At this point, he had no chance of getting home before dark anyways. "Might as well just wait for the next bus," he muttered to himself. If he did that, he had at least half an hour to waste here.

After all, how much harm could one drink do?

He sat down and allowed himself to relax. When Shannon returned and repeated his offer, Simon said, "Yes, actually. Can I get a virgin screwdriver?" (Somehow, just saying "orange juice" wasn't satisfying enough.) As much as he wanted to get wasted, Simon had to work tomorrow, and early morning coffee patrons were annoying enough without a hangover. Then there was his habit of completely losing track of time when he got drunk... But anyways. So orange juice it was.

Famous last words.

Re: [OOC] Look on the Bright Side

Do you happen to have a bartender yet for Merlin's? i reckon a seedy bartender would be pretty fun to play xDD

Re: [OOC] Look on the Bright Side

Okay so my usual style of humor in writing is usually just writing a joke or doing this crappy "and then he fell.He like........fell.So far.Dear god he's still falling.Wait,he's....no still falling."Kind of humor.I've realized that this is horribly shitty so I'm trying a new Pratchettian style of humor where instead of having jokes or too many ellipses I just add little humorous notes to my writing. So if anyone can think of a way to add to the funny (humorous RP remember?) please tell me how to improve my writing.

insincerely yours,
Rincewind

Re: [OOC] Look on the Bright Side

I posted for the first time EVER! If it's completely wrong and messed up, sorry D:

I feel accomplished.

Re: [OOC] Look on the Bright Side

Terry Pratchett owns my soul.

Re: [OOC] Look on the Bright Side

Awesome! Also, excellent choice of username. I'm a little jealous.

Re: [OOC] Look on the Bright Side

I have no problem with Simon working at Coffee of Doom.

Re: [OOC] Look on the Bright Side

Oh, and regarding the owner of Merlin's Beard: I think we can just play him as a NPC. Maybe if someone comes along and wants to play as him, we could let them take him, but unless that happens, I guess it's not really an issue. So far, I haven't gotten any PMs about it.

Re: [OOC] Look on the Bright Side

As far as posting goes, I say just go ahead.

Time of day is about sunset.

And I will add the coffee shop in just a sec. Is it okay if that's where Simon works?

Re: [OOC] Look on the Bright Side

If it wouldn't trouble you too much I would love for you to add Alexander's coffee store in the locations.

Re: [OOC] Look on the Bright Side

Yay!

Okay, so now what? Do I just post, or do I wait until..actually, I have no clue where I'm going with this.

Re: [OOC] Look on the Bright Side

So do I just jump in? Is there a posting order? A time of day at the moment, from what I have gotten so far it is late afternoon early evening.

Is there someone playing Merlin? Do I just use a NPC sort of method on him. Sort of like someone who leaves notes for Shannon or yells from the back room. I don't want to take over the character in case someone wants to play him.

Re: [OOC] Look on the Bright Side

Werewolf! Awesome. Just submit your character to the character tab and I'll have him added. :)

Re: [OOC] Look on the Bright Side

Shannon Johnson
Age: 30
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Species: Lycan

Appearance

Height: 5'6"
Weight: 159 pounds
Scars or distinguishing marks: A tattoo of a crescent moon on his left shoulder, inside the lines are the celtic knot.
Eye Color: Smokey gray
Hair Color: messy light brown hair that hangs to his shoulders
Skin Color: lightly sun kissed
Body type: lean
Typical attire: Normally wears loose jeans and shirts, he rather not wear shoes. When forced he will only wear the tattered sneakers that he has grown overly attached to. He has a thick leather cuff around his right wrist that has the celtic knot.

Inventory
Weapons: His mind, two daggers and two M1911 pistols with clips full of liquid silver and others carry UV rounds. (if Vampires are involved in the story line)

PERSONAL HISTORY
Shannon grew in the heart of the Midwest of the United States, he had a great set of parents who liked to indulge in life's little side tracks. Mainly drugs, any that they could get their hands on. They were rich and lived off old money so they didn't need to worry about jobs. His parents were trying to have another child and planned to name her Charlie. They thought it was the best idea in the world, that sibling never arrived.

Shannon grew up as the all American boy, loved all the past times that the era of his birth had to offer. Football, rodeos and apple pie. He went to school had friends, always had a book to read with him. His real love was fixing things, anything from cars to toasters. He always attempted to improve on the design to enhance performance of anything he could get his hands on. One experiment went wrong and leveled the garage, sending him to the hospital. Shannon found himself thrust into a strange silent world, with no hope that he would gain his hearing again.

He met Bruce Iven, a teacher in the school for the deaf, when he was twelve a few years after his accident. The two found some common ground when Shannon fixed the slight problem in the older man's car engine. Within the countless of hours of talking, Shannon's sign language grew stronger and he started pulling out of the deep depression that had lingered over him.

In the whole war effort, Bruce brought Shannon to his lab and convinced him to help his fellow American's by doing what he did best. Improve on designs.
Weapons to be exact. Most of Shannon's creations never found their way to the battlefields-well not human ones anyway. During one full moon, Bruce was being overly aggressive with Shannon, nearly raping the human. He was able to stop himself from taking Shannon's innocence, to Bruce's horror, he had instead taken Shannon's normal life. Oddly, Shannon found he could hear when he was in his lycan form. He didn't tell Bruce simply cause he wasn't sure how to.

Bruce kept Shannon and his shame out of the main stream knowledge of his pack. They kept to small towns and out-of-the-way pit stops, always on the move so the Pack Leaders couldn't leash Bruce back into the 'family' and finding the weak link he had brought into being.

In the twenty eight year of Shannon's life, Bruce was nearly killed by a rival pack. Shannon escaped with a few scratches, he had stayed and protected Bruce. Once the others were gone, the pair hobbled to their place. Bruce wasn't healing properly, something on the claws of the others was keeping the wounds from healing. Shannon loaded Bruce into the car and drove straight to the pack he had never met.
