βGod, fucking damn it.β I say to myself in a deep rough gravelly smokers voice but from my appearance you can tell that I'm not a smoker yet my voice is very very deep and rough. I swipe the last of my hair out of my eyes with my hand. βI really need to get this mop cut off...β
I continue to walk down the sidewalk. People are looking at me weird. Even though the temperature is really cold all I'm wearing is a white wife beater and jeans and I just walk down the sidewalk, watching as the leaves race along with me as if to show me the path. I watch them tumble by, thinking to myself They kind of lead the life I do. I think of how my life as a human has just kind of tumbled along with nothing of meaning or purpose whatsoever and just kind of smile at the thought. I keep walking, breathing in the cool crisp air and I close my eyes, enjoying the smell. Even if i'm a demon....there is nothing like the smell of a humans autumn season. I smile only slightly then it disappears and I continue walking along the sidewalk.

βYes, I know what you are, Demon Boy. Donβt make faces.β The woman smirks complacently at him, as though taking his lack of a response as confirmation. She is younger than her deep tones would imply, possibly her early twenties. The small, pixyish face is smooth and unlined, the bone structure underneath delicate and fragile looking like a porcelain dollβs. As she comes closer to him, he can see her eyes are curiously deep-set and catlike in shape, their violet irises shallow and indefinite looking. Her eyelashes are long but a lack of pigment has turned them a snowy white, matching skin as pale as bone china. Her hair is the same creamy shade, falling down to her waist in soft ringlets. Despite the bleached skin tone, her eyelids and lips have both been painted a shiny black.

βYeah, don't worry i know who you are too, Maisi.β I say and turn to look at the LED sign thats blinking above our heads, my pupils focusing on it.
βEven though i have been on this earth for 22 years...things still...amaze me...like this.β I pull out my cell phone. βI have no idea how it works,β I say as I open it. βI get the basics...as in people can call, or...texsssst me. β I over pronouncing the βsβ sound on the end of the βxβ and look at it.
βEverything that the humans have done with this planet have kind of amazes me...did you know that they can fly now?β I say looking at her, amazement swirling around in my eyes. βI mean, for fuckβs sake- I can't even fly yet....how these creatures are able to do it i have no idea.β

"What does someone like you have need for texting for?" She asks, her tones slightly mocking. Than, seeing the look on his face, her voice softens. She takes the phone out of his hand and examines it.
"It's not quite as complex as you think." She explains, turning it over a few times in her hand. "And the flight thing, well it kind of sucks. Trust me. Humans aren't all that great, Demon Boy. They only really see what they want to see and tend to ignore everything else." It is now that he realizes just how strangely she is dressed. Her white legs are completely bare and her shirt appears to be some kind of straight jacket, all the buckles and straps hanging loose around her. Like him, the chilling weather has no effect on her, though a normal human of such small stature would be shuddering from the cold. She carelessly tosses his phone back to him, and jerks her chin in the direction of the people on the streets.
"To them, you look kind of like some retard who just escaped from his handler. You might want to cover up a bit before someone decides to take matters into their own hands, eh?"

"What straight jacket?" She asks coyly. Her eyes are on him as he surveys the scene around them, studying him the way he studies every dent and crack in the ground below him. She seems amused by the way his eyes flash and turn.
"That's another thing: most humans don't tend to treat their own mind like some type of computer." She walks alongside him for a bit, then suddenly grabs his arm as though to stop him.
"Walking bores me." She announces with a yawn. "Let's go somewhere else. Even if you can't fly, I assume you know how to jump, can't you?" Without waiting for an explanation, she suddenly takes off, sprinting towards a trash bin pushed against the wall up ahead of them. With a well timed leap, she launches herself into the air and propels herself off the side off the side of the bin with her feet, using the momentum to land a few feet above it on the chain link fence that lines the exit way of the alley. The fence rattles as she bounces off of it and grabs onto the edge of a rooftop hanging a few feet above her head. Without missing a beat, she swings her body onto the roof in one single, smooth motion and her muscles relax into a crouch. She watches him, tilting her head expectantly.
"Are you coming or not?"

βWho jumps or runs?β I smile at her and look at the other roof top. The same thing happens and I appear on the other roof, smiling and waving at her. tSuddenly, I look out over the city.
βWere you expecting company?...because there are an awful lot of people talking about you.β

"Wow, Demon Boy's got some moves!" She laughs raucously and loudly, and launches herself over the side of the building to join him. Her movements have a sort of liquid grace to them, every muscles contracting and working beneath the silky skin. She lands a few feet away and crosses her feet beneath her, looking comfortable. With a slightly flirtatious grin, she pats the area next to her, indicating that he should join her.
"Handy skill. Though a bit lazy." She teases him, punctuating the comment with a wink. She glances over the rooftop at the city below, a slight frown marring her pretty features.
"I just got here," She told him, biting her lower lip. "No doubt more than one person has noticed me by now." She tugs at the sleeve of her jacket, examining one of the straps, before suddenly turning to him again.
"You said you've been here about 22 years now, am I right? You also never told me your name."

βMy name is Desmond Garth Niximus....or Desmond to my friends,β I motion to you and wink as I do so. βAs long as you don't mind me considering you as a friend.β Iquickly grab your arm and you feel a massive yank as if you're being yanked through a tiny straw. We land about 100 yards away on another rooftop.

all over the street below. Shaking, she stands up and faces him, wiping her mouth off on the back off her hand.
"Never do that again without warning me first." She tells him, coughing and eyes watering.

βI...Iβm sorry, I forget sometimes...are you okay?...did I hurt you?β I rub your back a little and pull your hair back on to the middle of your back, making sure that it does not get in the way. I continue to rub your back and look out over the city, looking at all the buildings and rooftops and the humans below skittering around like ants in the dirt. I turn my attention back to you and gently grab a stray strand of hair and pull it back.

"You're a demon." She says, squeezing her eyes shut. It's not a question, but a statement. Her lower lip quivers and she bites down on it in agitation. Now that she's wiped away all the black lipstick, he can see her lips aren't white, but tinged slightly pink, like a photograph faded by the sun. "Why are you being so nice to me? Don't you realize who I am? What I am?"

"Heaven's been in an uproar the last twenty years." She tells him, not looking at him as she spoke. Her voice is stern, controlled. Her hands fall to her sides, her fists clenching and unclenching nervously as she speaks. "God decided to sleep for the next thousand years, leaving the arch angels in charge. Since then, it's just been chaos, corruption, the works. Just look around you. Even this world is falling apart. I thought coming here would be better, but it looks like I only traded in one chaos for another." She finally turns back to him, looking him dead in the eyes as she speaks. "A lot has changed since you left, Demon Boy."
