Civil Defense moved quickly to clear the nightclub of people and debris. "Move it!" They called out, ushering everyone out of the club and into the nearest bunker entrance. Though by now much of the lingering chaos had died down, the risk of fires and collapsing buildings were still evident, and so Civil Defense moved to usher everyone to safety.

Gerard and Braxton collapsed in a pile once they cleared through the bunker. Sitting up, Gerard struggled to catch his breath while Braxton lulled into full consciousness. He stared at the ceiling as it blurred in and out of focus. Where were they?

Clinging to a wall Gerard rose. He pushed off and began searching through the small crowd for the girl. Over on the floor Braxton's memory began to return. His heart fluttered. Where was his phone?

In a fortified bunker just paces from The Haven Nightclub, Braxton Mortemira frantically swiped through his phone. He finally located the text conversation he sought. It was with his girlfriend, of course, and he wanted to know if she was alright. Thank goodness his phone had survived their travels. Only half battery, but it would have to do.

_Roana, babe, pls respond

Gerard was gone. Braxton wondered where, surveying the others around him and thinking about what lie beyond the bunker walls.

In a completely different part of Caprica City and underground, Kelby Heremosh and a band of survivors listened intently to the soldier that returned.

"Alright, there's tunnels, beyond a door. We need an access card," The soldier looked to his counterpart, "Unfortunately it denied my rank access." The other swore, which meant his card would be denied too. Kelby didn't even know this door existed, and doubted she had access. Patting herself down, she realized her card was missing anyway.

The soldiers addressed the crowd: "Is there anyone who has access to this door?"

And then, as if Zeus himself had heard their pleas and had answered their prayers at the most opportune moment, the sound of shouting could be heard from farther down the tunnels.

"Anyone here? Any survivors in this bunker?"

The Langaran refugees would be greeted to the sight of Tech Con rescue workers and guards, easily overriding the bunker's security clearance and freeing the trapped survivors. They'd brought food and medical supplies with them, and quickly began distributing the rations among the masses.

"Alright, alright, take it easy," a relief worker addressed the crowds, "eat all you like, but not too fast. We're gonna take this slow, kay'? No going up all at once. There's still a frak-ton of radiation above ground, so we're going to extract you nice and slow."

Another Tech Con agent tapped the worker on the shoulder. "We just checked Bunker 304. All dead."

The worker swore under his breath. "What about the one on Main?"

"Twelve survivors. Not a lot to go with."

"Great Hera. Tell the chief to head towards that one beneath the Haven Nightclub. I'm pretty sure that one was stocked with enough food to keep em' lasting."

Another worker overheard them talking and ran up to the pair. "I dunno' man, I heard every refugee in that shelter died. Not worth Hagan's time to look into it."

"Is there any way we can know for sure if there are still survivors in the Haven bunker?"

Kelby grabbed a ration, but held it in deft hands. They were saved, and it seemed like a miracle.

"Shit, are you serious?" One of the Aschen Soldiers said to the Tech Con agent. "We were hit pretty bad, huh?" He then continued on to help the relief workers distribute goods and keep order.

"Thanks for the rescue," The second soldier smiled grimly. "Haven bunker? That's way out the way of the chaos I heard." He pointed in a random direction, since they were underground. Kelby overheard the word Haven and looked up. Hadn't...

Hadn't Rex been there? Yeah, actually, I'm pretty sure Roana- Kelby's stomach clenched. She didn't have Rex's number, but Roana did. She was...outside. But... Maybe there was a chance...No.

"My friend," She spoke before she could stop herself, "Outside. Her boyfriend was at The Haven Nightclub. They were um," She looked down then up again as the crowd began to look at her. "...Texting."

Outside Graystone Industries, a cell phone would ring.

And that cell phone would, unfortunately, continue to ring without pause. No one would answer it. No one was there.

After Kelby confirmed that there were, in fact, survivors in the Haven bunker, Tech Con was quick to dispatch a rescue operation to the location. Dominic Hagan himself accomponied this one. Tech Con's humanitarian efforts in Caprica was HIS project, after all. He felt he ought to be among the workers first-hand. He owed this city that much, at least.

Much like at Kelby's bunker, Tech Con came in with fire and fury. They quickly distributed rations and medicine among the survivors, listing out a detailed extraction plan and attending to the wounded. Dominic Hagan moved from refugee to refugee, shaking hands and asking questions. Although his movements were methodical, there was a sincere empathy in his movements, as if he were really putting his heart into this.

In time, he came to Braxton.

"You okay?" he asked, offering a wrapped food ration to the man who hardly looked a day older then he was. He offered the Aschen a sympathetic smile. "You look worried. Aren't you happy you're getting out of here?"

Braxton continued to stare at his phone, despite the relief efforts. He didn't wait in line, as he was fine, but instead waited for a response from his love. Though he didn't spot the girl, Gerard walked by and shot him a half smile. He seemed to be headed somewhere.

"Huh? Yeah," Braxton looked at his peer through hard eyes, "What's it like out there?" He then looked back to his phone.
"I'm..." It seemed foolish but, no, "Waiting for a text."

Kelby clutched the survivors packet and watched as they dispatched for the Haven Nightclub. With pain in her heart she wondered if Rex even survived. Looking around as people broke off into huddles, Kelby shed a tear for Roana. The woman then settled alone into a corner, placed her head in her arms on her knees, and waited for slow extraction. Silently the woman wept.

Dominic shrugged. "Lil' hot. Bout two hundred degrees Celsius. Best to wear sunscreen." He smiled, looking down at Braxton's phone. The poor boy was waiting for the call of a loved one... a call he'd likely never get.

A Tech Con trooper walked over to Dominic. "Sure, the last of our refugee camps in Leonis has been filled. We're out of places to put these people."

Dominic turned to the trooper. "Send whoever's left to my private estate. I'll attend to them personally."

"Yes sir."

Dominic turned back to Braxton. Most of the other refugees were filing in line for processing. He needed to get this kid moving now... else he might never get up again.

"Hey," he called out softly, "hey, what's your name?" He offered his hand to the young man. "Let me help you up. We're going to get you out of here, alright? Can I do that for you?"

Braxton's heart dropped. Not survivable for anyone. If she wasn't in a bunker, she wasn't alive. He clenched his jaw at the thought, gripping his phone even harder. She would respond. She had to respond.

"Braxton Mortemira," He let himself be helped, figuring Gerard could look out for himself.

"Yeah, alright."

Kelby continued to cry for the loss of her life, and the unknown of her future.

"Braxton Mortemira," Dom smiled, "my name is Dominic Hagan, and I am honored to serve you." He helped Braxton to his feet, leading him through the thronging masses of refugees. "I'll take this one myself," he nodded towards a Tech Con guard. He would lead Braxton through the tunnels of the bunker towards the landing pad. A Kevlin force field kept the incredible radiation heat from getting into the bunker. Up ahead, a Tech Con transport awaited them.

"Do you have any family own in the bunker with you, Braxton?" Dominic asked as he lead the boy towards the ship, "anyone else that I can arrange to stay with you when we arrive at my manor?"

---

Eventually, a kind-faced Tech Con agent would kneel down in front of Kelby and lightly touch her shoulder.

"Come on ma'am," he smiled at her, "come on. It's time to get up. It's time to let go. Come on. The world won't get fixed in here." He offered her his hand.

Braxton nodded and looked to his phone once more before pocketing it. He would wait forever if he had to, so long as she responded. She had to respond. He followed Dominic Hagan in silence. It seemed he was leaving this place quickly, but where were they going?

Oh that's right. The manor. Braxton shook his head, patting his pocket.

"Only my woman, and she's got my number."

Kelby looked up, wet roads down the dust on her face. She took his hand and rose. He was right. From down here, she could do Langara no help. Swallowing this, latching on to this, Kelby would be lead by the Tech Con agent wherever safety happened to be

High above Langara, just beyond it's orbit into the depths of space, a rescue was under way. From Caprica City citizens were swept by an unknown ally in the midst of terror and destruction. Riots had stricken the streets of Caprica, the people rallied in abandon at the end of the world. In the madness descended an unknown enemy. From the clouds dropped a seed of death, the mother's crash landing eclipsed in the after-flare of defensive detonation.

The ship coursed true to wherever it was going. The Aschen Citizens inside didn't know much about their final destination, only that it was a promise away from Hell. From the safety and comfort of a guest cabin they did what they must to cope. After all, they were survivors.

Expression nearly blank, Gerard Lorette gazed out a large ovular window. It was cool to the touch; he was glad to discover this when leaning against it. The view was captivating, something he hadn't seen in a while. He never quite got used to the feeling of watching the planet shrink behind him. He sighed, looking to the other in the cabin.

"So, I guess here we are."

Alisia folded her arms as she halted, standing behind Gerard. She let out a long sigh, captivated by the sight beyond the window. "Yeah, here we are indeed." She replied, not sure of what to say really. Curling a strand of brown hair behind her ear, she continued gazing outside the window. "I never would have guessed things would get this out of control..." The female said remembering the situation they were in, her gaze moving away from the window. Realising how odd things were once again.

High above Luminere, a Tech Con transport of some variety descended. Inside were survivors recovered from a bunker in Caprica City. Inside, a Caprica City officer finished securing the cabin he was sharing with another for landing. He grabbed a box of water from a cooler in the wall and locked it, buckling into a wall seat.

Kelby Heremosh couldn't believe she was here. The woman hadn't payed any attention to the ride, to be quite honest, and was shocked to see the opposite of destruction outside. Shock was beginning to set in. She recalled her friend, and the smell of charred bone wafted through her nose. There was no charred bone here. Buckled into her wall seat, Kelby sobbed once. She laid a hand to her face and wiped the tear.

The spacecraft descended slowly onto the landing pad, an uproarous crowd already mobbing around the docking port. Cameras flashed, people cheered and news stations from all over Langara readied their live feeds. This was the final transport. The safe return of this ship marked the successful end to Tech Con's rescue endeavors into the Langaran capital.

The ship landed. A Tech Con rep stood up and tried to shout instruction to the refugees, but the roar of the crowd made him all but impossible to hear. Something about "black buses" and "the Hagan mansion". No one could really tell.

The next thing they new, the refugees would be ushered out of the transport into a world of blinding lights and cheering citizens. They were the last survivors of one of the greatest Aschen cities ever built. In the eyes of the Aschen public, they were more then just refugees. They were heroes. Walking history books. Teary inspiration to the rest of the Confederation in a dark time. Maybe the poor survivors saw themselves in the same light.

Or maybe they just wanted to be left alone.

Tech Con mercenaries struggled as they pushed through the crowds, attempting to lead the group to what was presumably their ride towards a better place. A merciless onslaught of questions roared in the ears of Kelby, Braxton, Alisia and Gerard.

"...what was it like in the bunkers..."

"...ever without food or water..."

"...did anyone die once you were locked away..."

"...forced to kill your own refugees for the sake of..."

"...was in Caprica. Have you seen him? Have you seen my son..."

"...make action figures outa' ya'. Big things, I'm tellin' ya..."

It was a nuclear fallout of a different kind; the desperate social ambush of a society nearly deprived of hope and meaning.

As the spacecraft landed, she could hear muffled cheering coming from outside the ship. "What the..." Standing up and moving from the bunk she moved to the window, peering outside to see a swarm of people surrounding the port. Her eyes widened, she hadn't expected this or really thought much into it. She had been concentrating on figuring out what had really happened and why. This was crazy. Shifting, she turned to look at Gerard "well, the public obviously weren't kept in the dark huh?" And by that she meant the media didn't take long to let the public know what happened. Or what they thought what happened. Who knows what the people were being told, she just wanted to get off the ship and onto safe ground of sorts.

As they were lead through the crowds by the Mercenaries, all sorts of questions were blurted and yelled into her ears. Alisia cringed as she continued to desperately follow behind, not daring to take her eyes off the mercenaries. The female just wanted to get out of the roaring crowd. "N...No sorry, what? No. Uh, I don't know. Excuse me, sorry." Alisia continuously replied to the jumbled questions in attempts to stop them from coming, it only made it worse though, so she decided to be silent.

"Shit..." The word fell from Gerard's lips as he stared out at the mass of people. The bombing must have been global news, how long has it been anyway? Hours? It felt like days. He was exhausted. Looking to Alisia, she was too. He scratched his head and discarded the milk box. Then, Gerard took a deep breath. It wasn't long before they were being lead through the ship, he walked silently and in formation with the others. The light of day flashed ahead, screams of people outside a dull roar throbbing at the edge of his hearing range. Gerard looked to Alisia, then let himself be ushered outside.

Augh, It was practically blinding. Braxton stepped from the ship, shielding his eyes from the natural light and flashbulbs alike. The crowd surged as they stepped from the shuttles and onto ground. His hand stayed glued to his face, jaw set tight. I'm not a war hero. Half way to the black busses, Braxton could have sworn he saw a familiar head bobbling up ahead. Dark hair, frizzed out of control, but was that? Oh my fucking...His heart dropped.

"Kelby!" Braxton shouted, pushing through the crowds, "Kelby?! HEY!" A few spectators took notice as he pursued the woman who could barely hear him. They pointed him out to eachother."Heeeey! KELBY!" Now even more had taken notice. A couple shouted along with him. Soon Kelby's name echoed through a small portion of the crowd, pulsing from Braxton as he shoved to Kelby as she let herself be shoved.

Gerard kept his head low, able to offer a pained smile here or there but not much else in terms of expression. A few reporters called out to him, looking for information. With a hand raised he gave them no comment. The Caprica City officer also received and returned more than one salute from fellow officers who had come to see if any of their own had made it.

There goes Braxton, Gerard noted to himself as he spotted the crowd giving way. There seemed to be a small commotion surrounding his friend. To his other side, he could hear Alisia responding to some question or another. Gathering Braxton could handle it, he turned to Alisia.

"Alright?"

Alisia quickly looked back to see if Gerard was still with her, and got a glimpse of the male and continued to follow those in front of her. The questions were overwhelming and they began to irritate her. Why so much praise and commotion over something like this? She thought. She hadn't done anything good to have this much damn attention. The female began to feel claustrophobic as the swarms of people were trying to swarm in further to stop her from trying to escape their questioning.

Alisia faintly heard the Agent behind her ask if she was alright. Slowing down her pace a bit, she grew closer to him, but it was impossible to walk next to him without having to push the people away. "N-No! This is insane!" She replied to him, her voice booming over the loud crowd of people. She desperately wanted to grab onto something so she knew she could definitely escape the people and not lose her way through them.
Noticing the buses up ahead a sigh of relief was released and her heavy breathing calmed.

But before the weary Aschen refugees could be filed into the nearby buses, they would be told to wait by a team of Tech Con security barring their entrance. An announcement needed to be made first.

Stepping up onto a nearby podium, Dominic Hagan rose to a microphone, much to the enthusiastic applause of the already frenzied crowds. He smiled charmingly, waving to the masses and bowing humbly.

"Thank you!" he called out, his voice ringing clear and true through the white-noise, "thank you!" The crowd quieted a bit, though was still far from silent. "Today," he continued, "is a day of triumph! Today, we bring home the last thirty-two refugees of the Caprican disaster! The last thirty-two heroes of a tragic and devastating chapter in our nation's history. We celebrate their safe return, as we do also celebrate the rescue of hundreds of other Capricans, already recovering in Tech Con's designating refugee camps!" Thunderous applause. Cameras flashed. People roared. Dominic raised a hand, calling for quiet once more.

"Seeing as how our camps are already nearly filled, it is my esteemed pleasure to welcome these thirty-two remaining brave souls into my own personal mansion for the duration of their recovery. I ask that the refugees now step into these buses, where they shall be taken to my home as honored guests!"

More applause and cheering. The refugees would be ushered into the buses by Tech Con agents.

Kelby turned to see a familiar face pushing towards her through the crowd. It took a moment to place, but it was Braxton. Before she could call out to him, an eruption of applause overtook the crowd. Their cries were drowned as Dominic took the podium, but she kept her eyes out for him as he pushed towards her.

The crowd quieted. After a few moments Braxton bustled into Kelby. She half caught him, running through thirty six emotions and then some. It was a person from her past, it was literally all she could ask for. They hugged briefly, wiping away tears, then Kelby turned to listen. Braxton needed answers, though. He whispered in her ear, she clenched her jaw, he gestured, she shook her head.
Gerard reached an arm for Alisia, calling for water from someone, anyone. Flashbulbs were erupting everywhere. Microphones attached to eager faces with questions spilling from them like sticky sludge. It was more than anyone could handle. He wished he had his sunglasses.

"Hey," They were almost at the buses, "We are well and safe," Someone pressed a water box into his hand. He tore it open and handed it to Alisia. "As soon as we get on those bu-"

Then, the podium was took and a roar shook the crowd. He moved closer to the girl as everyone settled. Gerard didn't quite understand why everyone was so excited about the situation. Pictures were still being taken, and before his eyes swam purple orbs. Annoying.
Wait a minute. Private estate? Both Braxton and Gerard gawked at Dominic, Kelby blinking speechlessly and looking around. Private estate? The crowds began to surge again, and before they knew it, Kelby and Braxton were on a bus.
