Description

A Hero Comes

Ean Stands about six foot four, with a lean build and fair skin. his hair is long and light brown, left wild and untamed like the man himself.

Ean is a calm and cool headed individual, ever seeking peaceful resolution to his problems. His ship, Cobalt Glaive, was designed and built by him over a course of several decades, the project stemming from a dream of better days. It is crewed by all manner of individuals, from all sorts of species and every kind of past. But the one thing they have in common is that when they were lost, broken, and abandoned, with no hope for themselves, and no one else hoping for them. When everyone, including themselves had given upon on them, he gave them a place to belong. He has been called a fool for putting his life in danger to safe those all others deem beyond saving, but it is his nature to protect those who are without protection.

Those of his crewmates who have been with him the longest share the story with all the others. Before Ean Falcor was the Captain of the Cobalt Glaive, he was a soldier, a hero on a planet where magic and technology where used together, interchangably and side by side. Raised in a military family, he joined at a young age, rising swiftly through the ranks until he had become the leader of his own unit. It was on a fateful mission quelling rebellion that him and his soldiers were pinned and under heavy fire, where he discovered his gift.

To save his soldiers, Ean unleashed a powerful psychic assault that ripped the engagement zone to dust. When they were extracted, it was not from the heavily defended compound they had went to. They were pulled out of a crater the size of a star ship. Immediately following that event, Ean was taken and trained to use his powers, to find their limits. The military quickly learned that they not only had a powerful psychic force at their disposal, but his Psionic potential was so great that with proper focusing, he could be used to literally rip worlds asunder. Needless to say, the government wanted this capability ready as soon as possible.
And so the greatest scientist of that world was assigned to find the means to enhance and best refine Ean's abilities. Her name was Docter Loraine Valios, and it was love at first sight. They married a year later, and had a daughter named Emily. Together, with Loraines guidance, Ean Falcor became the hero known as Vanguard, who's psychic abilities were used to defeat entire enemy armies without harming a single soul. Massive battle ships, legions of soldiers, Ean Falcor was able to obliterate their weapons entirely without causing harm to a single living soul. Such was the extent of his power that the government even considered engaging an assault against Holy Terra, to unseat the Imperium and take over the galaxy for themselves.
The problem with that plan would come from Ean himself, for though his power was great, his conscience was greater. Ean refused to use his powers to harm others, regardless of where they were from, and what they were like. "I am not god, It is not my right to judge who may live or die, and who may rule whom." Were the words he lived by. Begrudgingly, the government accepted his decision, and decided to drop the matter entirely. Others however... did not.

Sol Enterprises, one of the largest megacorporations in the galaxy, learned of Ean's abilities, and the CEO decided that his power should be used for the betterment of mankind, through the company of course. To this end, and to convince Ean to work for him, Arcus Sol set to have Loraine and Emily kidnapped. Ean was at work aboard a navy vessel when he received the call.

During the attempted kidnapping, Loraine and Emily fought back, and the criminals killed them. Ean's Wrath was like the inferno of a super nova, washing over the world in a terrible storm of energy so great that it was felt from one end of the galaxy to the other. That fire drove Ean from his home with a singular goal, to punish those who had taken his family.

News of Ean becomes scarce after this time, mere rumors and whisperings of his doings. The most reliable lead on his whereabouts came on the day that Arcus Sol vanished without a trace. He next resurfaces, years later, at a bar in Misrana.

Ean Falcor was driven to find solace in drink, the haze of inebriation being the best medicine for his pain. Whatever happened in the days of his disappearance, it has had an impact on his life, for Ean has since never used his psychic powers, not even in the most dire of situations. The Cobalt Glaive was built by hand, more often than not by Ean himself, who knows the ship better than anyone else in the world. His crew, his new family, is his entire world.

Woe to the fool who brings them harm.

The Captain doesn't have much in the means of personal equipment. His most common attire is a triweave carbon nanotube jacket, most notable for it's supple leather like feel and look, and it's ability to stop bullets smaller than a .50 calibur round. Aside from that he uses an array of hand made gadgets and gizmos, though his most common weapon is his Charge Pistol, that can launch an Ion "bullet" by gathering and charging particles from the immediate surrounding. Depending on the charge, this weapon can cause damage ranging from a stunning kinetic impact, to an incinerating plasma burn.

His Charge pistol also can be converted into a plasma torch "blade", by twisting an opening the barrel, the firing ports are allowed to release a continous stream of energy, ionizing and igniting the air they come in contact with. Holding down the trigger increases the charge, further increasing the output and extending the "blade" of super heated plasma. Ean jokingly refers to this particular function of his weapon as it's "Flaming Sword of Awesomeness".

Image
Perhaps the biggest asset in Ean's arsenal is his Cobalt Glaive, the ship is about 300 meters in length and built from a skeleton of ultracompressed carbon mineral two times as durable as diamond, covered with a titanium carbonite alloy plating.

The Cobalt Glaive Not only serves as the ship of the Starhawks, but is also their home. It is armed with all manner of offensive and defensive weaponry and systems, including missiles, Gauss Cannons, and and extremely powerful fore mounted plasma Lance. Numerous Manned and Remote turrets operate from multiple angles. In addition to this, A hanger deck contains room for no less than three single pilot Fighter craft, which often double as scouting vessels or drop ships.

Aside from weaponry, the Cobalt Glaive also houses a fabrication system that allows it to construct "Pop Blocks", Self erecting structures that can be dropped from orbit into a location. The Prefabricated structures are packed into specialized drop pods that are then released from the primary mag launchers located in the same section as the fabrication system. The drop pods break apart upon impact with a suitable surface, activating the the pop block, which then rapidly assembles the structure from the fabrication pieces. This system can incorporate any number of designs, allowing that the designed structure can be broken down into a set number of parts. This capability allows the Cobalt Glaive to directly insert mining drills, shelters, security barriers and numerous other sorts of equipment directly to a planets surface, making her exceedingly adept in jobs requiring rapid fortification.

With as much as is known about Ean's vessel however, there is much about the Cobalt Glaive that isn't known, as her Captain is always experimenting with new combinations of gadgets and gizmos.

So begins...

Ean nodded at Akio before turning to face plinth. "Ma'am, I'd like you to go to the Infirmary with Craig here." The Captain Said, pulling aside a creature that resembled a Minotaur with blue fur and a bladed scorpion like tail. The creatures face had no mouth, a set of four slits where the nose should be, and four eyes, two located in the skull, and then two more set upon stalks that swiveled over the creatures head. His pointed ears twitched as Ean called his name, and he bowed his upper half before Plinth.

It is my pleasure, miss. The creature's words do not issue in an audible form, but would be felt as a psychic presence in plinths mind. Furthermore, the creatures mind is not shielded or protected, as most psychic individuals are. His very being is exposed and left bare, and should you wish, you could intrude on his thoughts, his memories, all parts of him with ease. Indeed he does not flinch at that touch, and the slight brush against his mind reveals that his people's culture is much the same, their minds are all open to one another, and as such they are blessed with greater kinship.

To Akio Ean laughs aloud before turning to him with a smile. "I'll get you some later so you can see, for now though." And here he turns back to Emily. "Get us up in the air, keep us in atmosphere and take us out to the wastelands."

Emily nods. "Aye captain. All hands to Stations, Marckus spin the engines. Talis, Doreah, Vna, ready targetting matrices and armaments, get a flight plan set." The helmswoman gave commands with ease, clearly practiced at her job.

Ean nodded as she set to her task, then gestured for Akio to follow him as he departed for his personal quarters.

Plinth's leg momentarily split open flexing instinct as it disincorporated when she looked at the large non-mankind a large blue bull named Craig. Inside her mind Dicta chiseled into her psyche recoiled at the psychic touch of a nonhuman. Not out of distaste but of a writ-in avoidance toward the unknown common to all hairworm of the Fallen Emperor. Plinth's own feelings were muted though brighter than her brothers lacking the fine psychic control her brothers possessed to reach far to anything. Her control was more implicit and natured bonded to her human half as it was. She still had some to learn to employ it. Though a psychic presence in her mind might feel the alert but idle defenses installed there.

If Ean spoke at him then she could too, she reasoned, her brothers had passed on Myrkul's new dicta to be gracious to the unknown. She still felt the dicta crawling around in her head autonomously updating as it went.

The rifts in her legs sealed as Plinth clutched at her midsection to talk to Craig, "Okay, Craig, I guess I could afford to get these things out of me. I'm missing a fair bit of blood. You echo inside, do you have an overbeing?"

The sky inside Plinth's mind was filled with the implicit contact to Myrkul. An overbeing that hadn't noticed Craig's attention to its sub-being, Plinth. It towered large from somewhere very far away a whispering library of arcanum in impossible scale.

The ship shuddered and shook, and Ean and the crew began to scatter about, some looking very worried. Ean groaned and rolled his eyes "One thing after another on this rock." Before vaulting up the steps to the captains chair and plopping himself into it.

Craig was just about to answer Plinth when the shaking started, and chose instead to begin escorting her along the halls to the medical bay. "I do not believe my people have an overbeing such as yours. Rather, what you are sensing may be our collective memories. Each individual member of my people hold within them the memories of all other individuals past and present. In this way we are as one."

Ean laid back in the captains chair and several console screens came up around him as he went over ship systems oversaw resource control. To Akio he said "Grab hold of something, son, This is gonna get rough."

The Cobalt Glaive then performed an emergency lift off, the wings releasing an electrical discharge that arced and scattered across the landing zone. In a rather rapid movement for her size, the Glaive lifted off the ground before proceeding a forward flight over the city.

As they passed over it, the destruction and wreckage from the battle in the business district, as well as further destruction resulting from the earth quakes became all too apparent.

"Damn" Ean said to himself. "I hate to say it, but Ms Plinth's cargo is gonna have to wait a bit. We need to do something to help these people."

He turned then to look at Akio. "We can't do anything about whats going down in the business district, but let's see if we can get to the center of these quakes and help the people there out. Emily?"

The Helmswoman nodded. "Sir, the quakes seem centered around the entrance to the city... they've... the Arch, the stone arch we saw coming in... It's collapsing. It's horrible down there sir."

"Yeah it is, and there are people in the middle of it who are gonna need help. Get us over the area now, prep the Imps for rescue and relief, and get Feidie up to speed. We may need Alexander on this one."

Ean then looked up and with a voice that carried across the bridge he called out "The Wings of Blue are open"

And the crew called back with "And so we fly!"

Patches of borrowed time

Plinth hurried as the plane began to shake and her legs dispersed into a cloud of diaphanous strings as the ship took off. A front of effort pushed the thin black bones of her feet upward as she willed herself forward across bouncing terrain. Like she floated atop a ball of transparent black silk Plinth was stable as she responded, "Something else has gone wrong! Myrkul's Vein had to turn away to Genesis to deal with a threat. Myrkul's nice he keeps all our memories safe for us. Well when I return away."

She smiles at the strange nonhuman. She sails smoothly forward while talking on that black fibrous air, "Only the bottom quarter isn't red-blooded human. Speaking of I think I could use your healer first even if we're going off somewhere again. I've got two more bullet wounds and a talon strike."

Face scrunches as pain comes from bullets that scrape a slight wounds open inside and she starts to wobble, "Jinhai are numb and I kinda am but... it's really starting to hurt. I think I've lost a lot of blood."

Once more from the breach

The Jinhai quietly serving in and under ean's clothes noted quietly in Ean's ear after the crew's shout, "Myrkul has enjoined the tear into the black storm. We gather forces there with which to protect the Living Emperor and this plane. We normally would not without His leave but a threat to Mankind is named. Ifrit Atundai. We understand the need to protect Mankind. We follow your will."

Why is the ship twitching?

Feidlimid busied himself with reading technical manuals of parts for the mech while idle self-scanning programs ran on it. He tended to the inside of Alexander's mind as much as the sparkling cleanliness of his quarters. There were interesting things coming out of Terra despite the constant winds of war pushing its people around. His kind floated in space so he almost didn't notice, unanchored to the floor as he was at present, that the ship began to shake. Small tentacles behind long arm spikes served as hands that stopped to examine the wildly quivering walls. An earthquake?

Feidlimid then nearly hit the deckplate as the ship rose into him tentacles hurriedly grasping the floor and tensing. He slithered out into a hallway on sharp leathery tentacles looking for someone to tell him what was going on.

It was immediately following the motion for Akio to follow Ean that he felt the ship shuddering beneath it. He noted right away that it was too sporadic a movement for the Cobalt Glaive to be taking off and judging from the expression of annoyance on the captain's face, so did he. As Ean whipped around and proceeded to the Captain's Chair, Akio sensed the issue out. Epicenter is at the Wing City Gate, casualties will be many by the time we get there...he didn't like the sound of that and began reading the issue further, deciding if it was worth even going down there to try and save them.

Casualties would be double if they didn't bring their aid...

"Grab hold of something, son. This is gonna get rough."

Akio smirked, despite the situation. "I could possibly be older than you," he stated as the ship took off in an unkempt fashion, one that would normally propel a standing individual with no anchor back a few feet, causing said person to lose his footing as well as some pride. Akio always had an anchor, though, and was left standing through it all. His connection to the Shadows never wavered.

"Sir, we should-" he started.

"We can't do anything about whats going down in the business district, but let's see if we can get to the center of these quakes and help the people there out."

Akio raised a brow at this one and spoke after his conversation with Emily had ceased, "My almanac is rubbing off on you already. You've got a good sense of clairvoyance yourself or a noble nature, Captain Ean."

And with that, they jettisoned off towards the Entrance Gate.

The Cobalt Glaive flew through the atmosphere, it's iconic wings propelling it forward at a strong eight hundred kilometers per minute. The crackling energy that arced and bolted across the surface of the ship gave it a strong contrasting aura compared to the vast emptiness of the wastelands that it flew over.

Ean was leading Akio throughout all the sections of the ship, getting him familiar with it's facilities, their purposes, and capabilities. There was a lot to do, and he wanted his new first mate up to speed before they began their first job with him aboard.

Plinth would be in the medical bay, led their by Craig, who had remained near at hand to talk with her while the nurses administered treatment. His was a facination brought on by a new discovery, the fact that another species existed where psionism was a integral part of their existence was very interesting to Craig, and would be to all his people no doubt

All told the medical bay found Plinth had inside her three fresh bullets, a slash to her abdomen, two encysted sword tips, and one rock. The interior layers gave some pause to the medics tracking trajectories to an interior 'full of stars' as one medic put it. Her lungs and stomach were psionically maintained non euclidean areas full of motes, blood, vein become psimass threads forming interference patterns, indeterminate neural ganglions bridging mote to flesh gaps, and unidentifiable changing psionic organs balancing psionic aspects expressed in her human half. Certainly there were aveoli in the mass of flesh but it seemed disconnected from other parts and all inflated independently. Tracing the throat to make connections where they ought to be proved rapidly fruitless. Her heart, in the middle of all that, was easily the island of perfect humanity among the mass of motes moving about her inner torso. Scans would reveal her spine actually ran down both legs by piercing into bones in her thigh. Slightly above the knee the bones became entirely ferromass where the black flesh was entirely motes clung to in an appropriate shape. They simply gripped the muscle, skin, and sinew where it expected to have tension. Particularly noted was that compared to her compatriots she had all the necessary parts to bring a human to term. Though the psimass threads ran interference patterns presumed to affect the child in some way.

Plinth appreciated Craig's presence while the multiple surgeries, some of which exploratory to figure out how to get where the objects were around her interior space, occasionally absently trying to fall asleep inside of his head where she would normally rest in Myrkul. The motes in her psionic half needed to sleep when her organic half did for metaphysical stability necessitating a host mind. Hosting her connected psyche was like an image that writ itself on the walls near whoever she slept inside. A face reappearing curled up in 2d on a wall's metal grain or upon indeterminate shadow where periodelia might take over. She was more than powerful enough to maintain the connection entirely asleep.

When she was awake she talked of her travels in the slums of the city giving him pieces of mental images of the holes she found there. The thugs didn't take well to her being on their 'turf' but she closed the holes where Umbralkind might leak through. It rather looked like sowing volumetric lace of psimass threads onto the fabric of reality. She didn't know exactly where the sword tips came from but guessed it was from humans trying to get to the holy city in the black storm. The rocks were a risk when she had to wander outside a structure concretion floating in gyres among swirling negative energy. She thought she got them all but missed one.

Craig would listen avidly throughout her conversations while awake, embracing her shared images in a way no other living creature would have likely been able to. Sleeping within his mind would be easy for her, as much like the overbeing she spoke of, Craig's biology imitated, albeit on a smaller scale, the myrkul he had become familiar with as she had known him.

While sharing her own memories, she would be intimately privy to his own memories, as well as the thoughts and ideas that occured to him as he both shared and recieved memories with her. Of the many memories he shared, one most memorable and humorous was his first encounter with Ean Falcor. Craig had been traveling to discover more of the universe, to learn and see so that his species might know and become aware. He had encountered Ean as an oddity, the Captain being one of the few minds he encountered on a world colony that was not only closed off to his mind, but also aware of the psionic touch. Ean had accosted Craig, thinking him some foul intruder into privacy, and after several attempts to explain, Ean accepted that Craig was not harmful, and even welcomed him aboard the ship so he might see and learn, as was his original goal. Most humorous of this first interaction was his attempt to explain his peoples apparently perplexing mental state.

"We are individual parts of a whole conciousness. They refer to me as Craig, but that is not our name. We are Cra, and I am Agii, but one part of Cra. No matter how many times I attempt to explain this, most of them are simply not able to understand the concept. They are each alone within their minds, each isolated and unaware of the others thoughts and emotions. Cra are all aware of Cra, Each Agii as every other Agii, and all together we are Cra." Craig explained to Plinth during one of her waking moments. "None save the captain understood as of yet. In him there is much to learn, and puzzling are his ways. He is human, but seems to understand peoples and species he has never met in instinctive fashion. And he is very lucky."

Touring The Vessel: The Arsenal\
"The Arsenal is probably the most advanced and important part of my ship." The Captain said as he led Akio through what would appear to be a massive machining and foundry operation. He pointed to the far end, where uncountable construction devices and arms were in constant motion. "The Arsenal is in two parts, the construction bay, and the Launch Pillars. Now the Construction Bay is a big deal, it can fabricate, from raw materials, anything I or any of the Engineers can come up with. Vehicles, Buildings, weapons, you think it, we've probably made something like it. Now for the most part what it's used for is constructing prefabricated, self constructing hardware. Things like Bunkers, Anti Armor and Aircraft weapons, Mining Drills, Launch pads for aircraft, that sort of thing." And here he winked at Akio. "Let me tell you later the number of times some military or corporation has tried to buy or steal the designs and schematics just for this particular section of the ship. To understand it's value Akio, you have to put yourself in the shoes of a soldier. Your on the ground, you've got no cover for miles around, no reinforcements, and your low on ammo."

He turned and pointed at the far off back of the facility, where structures stood together, like tall pillars with slots in them. Into these slots the machines and construction equipment was moving large metal pods and other like sized objects, the prefrabricated hardware no doubt. "Three of those launch, each with four soldiers strapped in. They hit the ground, the hardware sets itself up, and boom. Reinforcements, Resupply, and fortified position, inside of thirty minutes if your in orbit."

Akio would continue to examine and dissect each and every part of the Cobalt Glaive...not just because he had to as part of his new job. There was a natural curiosity burning within him as to what everything did on this ship. It all had a function, just like everyone on the ship. No piece was left behind or underutilized in any way. He was genuinely surprised by the cleanliness of the ship. Most things he'd laid eyes on had some kind of weakness to them...some flaw to be exploited. Lack of maintenance in one area or failure of cleanliness in another. The Cobalt Glaive had very few of these things. And Akio had a theory as to why that was.

But for a later date...

"I can see such a valued treasure," Akio agreed as he watched the process of the Construction Bay at work. "The power to build anything necessary for a war in a mobilized vehicle of any kind is a valuable asset. I'd also be right to assume that it's function isn't solely limited to weapons and war. Say, a part were to become faulty or a mechanical failure were to commence and you were missing the necessary tool or accessory to fix it...it could easily be manufactured here." He viewed the Launch Pillars with mild interest. He'd seen bigger.

"My only question is where does the supply come from?" Akio scratched his 5 o'clock shadow as he turned back to follow Ean. "The ability to create anything must consume a resource of some sort."

Stuck in bed being treated by medics Plinth was glad to have someone to talk to as much as to sleep in. Plinth read about Cra in Craig's mind and for one understood the uniqueness of commonality. Hers was a mere whisper in the individuality of a human mind compared to her brother Jinhai. She described how Jinhai saw himselves a single roiling landscape of microscopic pincered motes watching the distant sky holding themselves high above the waves to worship their sun the Living Emperor and their moon Myrkul's Vein.

She shrugged and smiled at Craig while switching from hospital gown to her own clothes no shame to her at all, "They don't understand that even if a drop of water from another ocean had a name and distinctiveness neither would recognize its importance. I guess that's why it's good you're here!"

She stopped to muse and giggled at an image of two hairy plant seeds floating in the sea of motes, "That must make me a floating pair of coconuts!"

Plinth finally discharged from the infirmary a few pints of O- blood richer her unwanted projectiles closed over and dealt with. Even so her chest was stiff from the rooting around carefully with instruments. They found her wounds sealed shut fairly well of their own accord when she had the opportunity to sleep in Craig though they treated the surgical wounds as always to be safe. It was just as well since inner psionic nature could triage wounds much better but remained at odds with the will of the flesh. They'd laundered her clothes as well the black carbon dust impregnated in it from mote waste material washed out to a bright cyan color.

Plinth tugged at her clothes remarking to Craig as Jinhai touched her mind, "I suppose I should get back to Ean now that my Brothers say we're close to the forge."

Her view into the mind of Jinhai was a small peep-hole through a door into a library of vast scale. Jinhai inside showed her a map. Much like Craig was cra the Jinhai had access to the memories of everything every Jinhai had ever seen or known. They were each that person still a personality forged over the roll of thousands of linear years.

Craig chuckled at her comment of coconuts, then nodded at her. "Ean is currently presenting the new First mate of the Glaive around the ship." He said to her mind. "Your brothers will show you the way I have no doubt. If you wish me to accompany you, I will be happy to, while we walk we can speak more. It is not often we have the opportunity to meet with another entity so like ourselves."

Touring the Glaive: Arsenal
Ean smiled and nodded at Akio as he expressed his understanding of the arsenal's capabilities. "Your absolutely right. Anything you can think up, we can cook up. It's one of the things that makes the Cobalt Glaive such a godsend for prospective colonists, or even refugees. We can build sturdy temporary shelters and houses, as well as walls to provide security against less than friendly natives. Even communication arrays and hospitals. We once built a power station in here, dropped it right on top of an older power plant, and were able to hook up to the old power lines with it." He waxed on and on about the capabilities of the Arsenal. "And your also right on the tools. Say we need a drone or some such to repair a damaged part of the Glaive's exterior, can build it here, then send it out through the hanger bay through that elevator there." He gestures to a side of the room where a large column runs straight up through the ceiling. "The best part is the fexibility. Were not stuck to a set of schematics, we can change things as we need to better suit the situation. Prime example, mining gas giants. Hard to do that with the mining rigs we normally use on asteroids, but no problem. With the arsenal we can change a design, make a rig to mine without a hard surface, and build it with the same materials we use for the standard rigs."

"And on the topic of Materials, you're also right. All the hardware we make needs something to make it from, and all of that comes from the refinery." And here Ean began to walk towards the exit, the same way they came in. He paused a moment though, then turned and walked over to an offset room near the exit. "best you learn about it here anyway." He said, leading Akio into a chamber with technicians at a console. Beyond them was a solid glass partition separating a primarily white room with a dull blue glow. "This is called a transit station. Now, The Cobalt Glaive is a big ship. Two point five kilometers is a significant distance to travel, especially in an emergency. When your in the middle of a fire fight, being able to get from point A to point B in a hurry is a big deal, though that's a bad example. In a fire fight most everyone will have a station they stay at and around to take care of. But anyway, when you need to get somewhere and get there fast, we use these to do it. They use quantum entanglement to transport crew, and sometimes cargo, instantly. Now unfortunately, they take a lot of power to run, relatively speaking, so unless it's a time sensitive situation, we try not to use these." He explained, walking into the transporter. "We'll go ahead and show you how it works though, come on."

As Ean led Akio through his tour of the Cobalt Glaive, the Wanderer couldn't help but find curiosity in other places as well. For starters, Plinth, who had gone to the infirmary, had been there for quite some time. He assumed she'd be fine, that the medical staff here were as upper tier as everything else on this ship seemed to be and that she'd have nothing to worry about. There was always that small bit of apprehension, though.

Another concern came from the Business District, where he'd encountered the Shadow King. That place was absolutely demolished...it had to be. Such a being who wielded such power and had no regard for the society and it's structures tended to wipe cities. They were above them. And had he really just met, and fought against, his king? There was a chord he wasn't striking, something that almost never happened, and it annoyed him.

His third concern came from the future. With the Earthquake having taken place at the entrance to Wing City and the space battle presumably going on above them (though the likes of which seemed to have died down in the space of the shadows), he was already getting a feeling that he'd have to stay on his toes. That anything and everything could and will happen to them and that he had to be ready for it. It wasn't nervousness that resonated within him nor was it visible tension...it was more of a cautious air that surrounded his gaze...he looked like he could see it all from the outside.

He snapped back into reality as Ean was explaining his teleportation technology...an ability Akio had a lot of experience in. He smiled as he explained his own understanding of it, "Ah so you possess an artificial way of transporting matter across a distance very quickly. I, too, have a means of doing that, though it's distance is quite limited. From what you're describing, it sounds like we can transport anywhere in this ship."

Akio walked up next to Ean, his hands behind his back as he rolled his shoulders and glanced at the man, "Let's see how far yours goes, Captain Ean."

Plinth nodded and smiled following Craig around, "I think I'd like to talk. In a fashion anway. I think my sisters and your people would get along well! My brothers aren't built to hold a like or dislike of anyone. They are creatures of order. I only have one niece since the Fallen emperor couldn't send worthy suitors and Myrkul found so few much less ones that we liked."

Unable to find the words she showed Craig a picture of the 12 adult Mada and a small toddler in one's care that currently exist in the large gyre that housed them outside the holy city. A monochrome motley lot in discordant harvested clothes sat at a table as behind their dining room balcony writhed a storm of death energy creating arduous conditions. The safe insides an eclectic decoration of whatever they could find that wasn't stonework much like their clothes. Words among them infrequently shared opting to send thoughts around houses while reading books or while along their duties. The storm suffered little but dust and rock to exist but there were precious treasures that persisted. Each item harvested and too rarely purchased from planar travelers that tried to breach the holy city. Other than each Mada's grayish coloration from dust that suffused all their existence they varied quite a bit. All carried the attractive face of the Fallen Emperor.

She felt homesick for the Mada home concretion as every surface wrote with careful construction by hand. All their possessions were hard fought against conquerors and they couldn't just get more. In the distance after that balcony just before the gyre wall was something akin to a lighthouse for dimensional awareness. Behind it a flat grey plate emerged from swirling black that was Myrkul scraping the gyre. Just that small bit of its segmented side shrouded all the balcony's view of the storm. Homes of discordant stars from glowing resilient animals furiously displace from behind that lighthouse as even here nature would not allow itself to be denied. She almost missed the soft screech on the winds of Undead howling out their formation in other gryres having never been this far from home. Their work was a continuous duty of scarce resources so they rarely came all together at once. For this particular moment they talked all the whole long while just because they could. Sometimes she'd walk out by the furthest point of the anchor lighthouse a rubbing chirp of those beached flying stars hiding in holes. In the back of their mind behind the occluding storm a beat of each overbeings' thoughts. An eternal promise in the thrum of communication at scale ensuring the Mada's safety.

"What is your home like? I've only seen Wing City so far it's so sad somebody broke it already!", Plinth pouted at the shared thought of the ruin they'd been forced to leave behind. Before Ifrit could destabilize the Way they had to build a second ingress gate from this side. Their original could not be upgraded while it was connected to the way and the cognizance injector nearly occupied its capacity entirely. She looked Craig up and down once wondering if his species could dematerialize itself to pass along the way. They could then go to Genesis if they wished.

Traveling through the ship
Craig nodded at her, saying "I would like to meet your kin. We do seem to have much in common, and we may even both be of a singular essence in the times of creation, that were separated prior to the times of forging." As they walked through the ship towards where Ean and Akio would be, Craig absorbed the information, the memories she sent to him being held in his mind like static and frozen instances of time. Even as they walked, Craig meandered through the memory space, inspecting the details of the home she came from.

To answer her question, he brought forth another memory of a wide plain, mostly of blue purple grass and green skies. In this plain was an open village, with no walls or defenses. They needed no such things, being hardy and strong creatures themselves. The Cra did not really function as individual creatures in this village. Some set to the tasks of building homes, some to the task of farming. Others wandered about the plains, searching for materials to gather for the constructing. They were, in many ways, like ants. Each one performing tasks among their peers with a singular mind. Of interesting note would be the farms they grew as well, for they did not eat as other creatures did, having no mouths to do so. Instead, their hooves would absorb nutrients from the grass and plants. They did not taste very well, but their farms were grown in such a way as to have more nutrients than others. Into this memory Craig walked, leading Plinth through it. Other living creatures, even those of psychic nature, would have a terrible time understanding the nature of this activity, but Craig believed that Plinth and her kin would have no issue traversing the space.

To those who would not understand it, the Cra, being a race of creatures who were all indivisible from each other, each individual having the memories of all other members both present and past, were quite powerful in their minds. Their memories were so vivid, and their minds so powerful, that they could relive past events. In this way, no member of the Cra ever truely died, for their personalities and memories, preserved in the masses, were "living" in the minds of all Cra. This ever growing group consciousness meant that all Cra could speak to their ancestors at any time they chose.

Craig shared this impression with Plinth as he walked through the memory space with her, introducing her to the others of his kind from their prehistoric days to the modern era. And such it was that all this could occur in minutes. "Our people have never wanted for much of anything. Unlike other species, we have never held a fear of death, for to kill one of us, you would have to wipe our entire species from existence." He explained "Still, recent events that several Agi have witnessed, exploring the stars as is their role, have led us to fear for our existence. In this, we have taken precautions, by sending Agi to live in societies where we are welcome, performing what tasks we might to ensure we are needed. By being of use to others, we see to it they shall want us to remain in existence. We learn how to do many different things, and in this way we all may do many different things."

"Such is my purpose here, that I am a consultant to the Captain and many of the crew chiefs that service this ship. When they have a question of happenings elsewhere among the stars, they ask me, and we seek the answers."

Touring the ship: Transit to Refinery

Ean smirked at Akio, before giving the signal to the station controllers. "Refinery, just to show the new first mate how the station works."

After several seconds, surges of energy began to arc and rotate around the walls of the transit pad, and beyond them reality began to shear as the space in which Ean and Akio stood came to occupy two seperate locations. After only fifteen seconds they were clear, and would step out of the Transit station into the refinery. here, a multitude of workers ran to and from amongst pipeworks, massive vats, and any number of other containers and devices.

Ean began to explain. "Now the Arsenal, and actually most of our construction equipment, functions using the same processes as molecular printing. These vats you see here, they all contain various, liquidized forms of Elements." He pointed to some large oblong pods that were hanging from racks in the ceiling "Those are the Mining Rig pods. Depending on the size of the rig and what it's gathering, it'll have anywhere from four to twelve of those in it. The rig uses pulse mining, or thumping, to gather the metals and minerals and what have you into those pods. When a pod is full, the rig launches it, and the pod flies up to the ship to be collected here at the refinery."

He gestured towards the back of the chamber, maybe a fifty meters away. "You can't see it from here, the vats are in the way, but back there is a station where the pods are emptied, and the contents are sifted and separated, each molecule broken down into base elements and then transferred to a holding tank. Then when it's needed, the liquid elements are pumped down to the arsenal, where the individual elements are combined according to a blueprint, every atom placed where it needs to be, to make whatever we need to build whatever we need to build."

Ean then walks over to the railing that separates the overlook area from the refinery proper. "Directly beneath us is fuel production tank, which as you may have guessed, is where fuel for our ships reactor comes from. It's different from most of the other tanks here in a few ways, but the most notable is that all the plumbing drains to it." He says with a barely suppressed grin. "The techs separate the hydrogen from everything else, and then pump that to the fuel reservoirs near the reactor. That little bit was one of my favorite parts of the design when I had her built. Thought I was being clever."

He did a quick spin around with his hands out, before saying "That's about it for here. Next I'll take you through the barracks where the Imps hang out, then after that we'll go through the "hospitality" section of the ship, then a run through the hanger and the launch bays. After that we'll head back to the bridge and I'll explain some of the finer details."

On The Surface

On the surface, a tear of reality opened up as a massive armored figure stepped out of it. Armed with a power sword, his very presence seemed to corrupt the very land around him. "Ah yes...there should be my shipment arriving right...on...schedule." The figure laughed darkly to it itself. It looked in the sky, directly at a ship that was in flight. The Cobalt Glaive...it held a treasure that he wanted.

He began to channel his psychic powers. "Time to gather my package now..." The figure spoke as he raised his hand at the ship. If the ship was unprotected from any psychic means, the ships flight capabilities would suddenly glitch out, egines would start to flicker on and off, generators would shut down for short intervals and the lights would just shut off. The Sorcerer was trying to force it to land, or even crash land...although he rather not damage the item he was trying to find.

Of course...if his plan to use psychic powers failed...he would have to use more...direct means to make it stop.

Such conversations took little time to occur and as another made designs against the craft Plinth absorbed the information with glee. A truly alive space to walk upon. She understood the memory of life running under their hooves from the limited understanding she'd been given by Jinhai. Her plane had a memory of life that was but remained profoundly incomplete. Merely structure. She showed Craig the place called Losthome, a thing of plants and eccentric madness a random assemblage of memory. Below it cold metal and gears trundling on. Above it more ground the whole of the place a sponge of interlinked properties with no soul linked by an eternal machine. They knew it could see them but if it cared they could not discern. Just sets of red eyes of some impenetrable mind looking out at them impassively from between a foggy abyss of gunmetal gears. She thought the comparison of the living threads tethering beneath all Cra to those heartless machines were somehow close but held apart.

Then a pounding redness of tethers lurched through the ship her sense of taint throbbing madly everywhere pulling her into the present. Plinth recoiled her legs from the ship channeling such energies splitting apart into the balanced insulating cloud. Next she reached into her pack and pulled hard at the armor stored in the pocket of reality there goading it into activity by charging it. A muscle instinctively tensing the ferroplasm armor weave poured over her head the horned helmet dragged along to clamp shut. The gauntlet clinks together over her hands. She eyed Craig projecting a sense of great worry. Plinth shouted alarm to Craig and her brothers Jinhai. She didn't know what was going on but she didn't like it.

She worried more at Craig with an image of her Censer that was somewhere with the Imps and reached out to figure out where it was.

The Jinhai under Ean and Akio tensed hard as they were pushed to awareness from their largely idle state. The eyes of Jinhai poured upward through the collar of both so Jinhai could see. Plinth had put them at alert. Both flowed down onto the palms ready for weapons previously known to them to wrap a conduit around them.

There was so much more Akio wanted to ask the Captain of the Cobalt Glaive. Now that he had his answer of where the resources were pulled to power the Arsenal, what kept the Refinery running? How were these resources gathered? Were they pulled from the atmosphere or did they come from other locations. Did Captain Ean have to stop constantly to gather resources to power this ship? He knew enough about space to know that it was void of most atoms, so would Captain Ean have to fly within the confines of planets to gather resources? How close would he have to fly by the sun to gather it's solar elements? This technology was new to him and he wanted to learn more about it. Of course he knew Captain Ean could and would eventually answer all the questions Akio had, but for now he would let man conclude his tour and wait until they were in private quarters to question him further.

Or not. As soon as Akio nodded, he felt the ship lurch violently. Lights began to flicker and technology buzzed all around him. He felt his own stomach moving in his body as the ship lowered in altitude. He knew Captain Ean couldn't have done this. He was standing right in front of him. Turbulence was putting it too lightly...this was something else. And as Akio reached into the Shadows to pull the answer, he knew Captain Ean would be reacting to the sudden change in the atmosphere from calm to hectic.

Luckily, this would be one of the easiest Shadow reads he'd ever conducted. Though Akio couldn't learn much about this being's past, he could learn much about this being. A user of the Psyche, he would gather first. The Shadows dripped from it, the air around him whispered it, and Psychic beings were among the easiest to detect, especially powerful ones that didn't mask their own self. A being of destruction and chaos would come second, from his nearby environment. He would feel the connection between this being's abilities and the ship's malfunctions, finding a direct link. No doubt this was the perpetrator.

Ean Falcor has many physical bases covered...but what was his standpoint on magical defenses?

A gaping flaw was coming to fruition as he took to glancing into the future...just a minute or two ahead. Any more and the Psychic might sense the tampering of time and be slightly more equipped as to what it was dealing with here. Every edge was needed.

After a careful read and an overall analysis, Akio snapped back into the present and turned to Ean. "You're dealing with a pirate who wishes to plunder your ship, in a figurative choice of words. In actuality, the threat is a strong mind altering fellow who warps the world around him...us included. His efforts are what is causing the ships to fly ruggedly. He's trying to make the Cobalt Glaive land. He will succeed in doing so." There was no denying it. Every instance and scenario he passed through showed the Cobalt Glaive on the ground, either in good condition or in some sort of disrepair.

"Your favorable option is to land the ship yourself, Captain Ean. Land it next to the being who is causing this warping. You will have to play defense while he plays siege. I can and will make your burden easier, however." A slow easy smirk was forming across his face, one that proclaimed confidence and esteem towards the Captain of the ship. He also remembered something...something very important that had mostly been ignored since their entry onto the ship...the presence of the Jinhai.

"Jinhai, I will need your help in this fight," he said, "I'm glad you have not left us."

The Bridge
"Emily, we're getting a signal down on the surface." A technician read out to the helmswoman at her post. "Yeah I see it... odd. Whats a person doing alone out in the-" She never got to finish her sentence, as the ship began going haywire, systems going haywire, the ship's engines fluctating. "Holy crap! Send an alert out all systems, we've got trouble coming, and get The captain back up here now."

Traveling the ship with the Cra
Craig looked to Plinth, concern clearly evident on his mouthless face, radiating from his mind. Memories brought to him by the Cra collective mindspace, he shared with plinth the images of a chaos being. "We are under assault, though I do not know why they seek to harm us." He said to her, turning and heading towards the bridge. "Do not be afraid, however. We will be safe."

Touring with Ean
When the shaking and flickering began, Ean looked all around at the chaos, barely listening to Akio as he went on. Ean took a few steps to the side of the ship and placed his hand on the cool surface of the wall. Immediatly, the flickering, shaking, and all else ceased, and the ship returned to flying normally. Ean looked up at Akio then, slipping his hand off the wall as though nothing had occured. "I'm sorry I missed that?" He said, before shaking his head. "Ah we'll have to return to the tour later, right now I have a feeling I'm needed on the bridge."

The captain took off at a steady jog to the transit station, signalling the tech to start the process for sending them to the bridge. Once Akio was in place, they were sent. Ean barely waited long enough for the transition to complete before stepping out of the station and onto the bridge, briskly hopping up to the captains chair and bringing up his interface. He went over the systems and made sure the damage was minor before adressing the problem at hand. "Sensors got a hostile entity down on the ground, some chaos lord or other. He tried to bring us down I guess. Good thing our girl isn't so easily shoved around." He said, raising screens connecting to the arsenal, hanger, and the barracks. "Chief, get the arsenal loaded for a rocksteady, We may be sending boys down and I want them safe." He said to the engineering chief in the arsenal. "Theo, get hummingbirds in the racks and some drop ships prepped for launch." Was his order to the Airchief in the hanger bay. "Captain, get your best men and send em to the drop bay, We got some folks from chaos trying to give us trouble, arm appropriately. And hey, this is me giving you fair warning." He smirked at the Imp Captain in the barracks.

He then looked up to Emily. "Keep us up in the air, and out of range of that dumbass who thinks he can ground my ship. And get Craig to bring our employer up here, I got a feeling our rude guest is after the cargo she wants us to pick up. If that's the case, our MO at this point is pretty straight forward, we hold off the wack jobs, grab the cargo, and get off the planet. Understood."

"Aye Captain!" Rang out through the bridge as the crew set to work.

Ean would then turn to Akio with a smile. "This right here is what your job is whenever I'm not available."

The sorcerer scoffed at the ship as it returned to normal. "Figures I have to do more..." He simply spoke as more portals opened up, from one signal came one hundred. Many armed themselves with Las-cannons infused with unholy magic. Warp infused energy. The hand held, long ranged, anti-vehicle option.

"Slaves, down the ship but do not destroy it...I need it partially intact to obtain what is rightfully ours...That treasure shall and will be mine...they deley the inevitable..." The sorcer pointed, and the armored figures that appeared silently obeyed their order and aimed wepaons at the ship. With a bright red glow on their weapons, they fired long ranged energy shots at the ship. Filling the skies with red energy fire.
