Elloit

A Witch Hunter who has been declared Extremis Diabolus by his own best friend due to his being a half-vampire.

0 · 445 views · located in The Infinite Void

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by elloit

Description

He wears a floor length brown leather trenchcoat, beneath which are a pair of brown trousers and an off-white cotton shirt. On his head he wears a wide-brimmed, tall peaked hat- a sign of his profession, which also helps to slightly conceal his face, which is heavily scarred. His eyes are a piercing flint, and his short hair is dark brown. He wears sturdy knee-length leather boots, and his hands are similarly gloved, with hisforearms protected by metal braces. Buckled over the outside of the coat is a section of plate armour, which covers his chest and back. Dozens of religious icons hang from chains around his neck, along with a bandolier of stakes and crosses. Holstered at his waist are two pistols, along with a rapier and pouches containing various other holy items. His whole body is dotted with purity seals which tell of his deeds, accomplishments, and purity. His skin is deathly pale, however, and he burns in natural sunlight much more easily than "normal" humans...

Personality

As a Witch Hunter, he is used to being disliked and feared by a lot of people. It is no surprise, then, that he cherishes all of his friends dearly. Needless to say that when one of those friends betrayed him, it caused some emotional damage. He is no longer the happy, enthusiastic and eager person he used to be. Instead he is constantly wary, suspicious, and mistrusting. He still wishes to make friends, but the fact that he is so cagey and sceptical is a slight hindrance. He also thirsts for blood, thanks to his half-vampire nature, though he is not undying, and still needs to drink and eat normally, unlike "true" vampires. On the plus side though, he can still go out in the sun, which is an advantage over those "true" undead. He also has access to some fairly basic psychic techniques.

Equipment

Two Flintlock pistols, plus bags of blessed silver ammunition. A silver rapier, again blessed, along with numerous stakes and holy icons. A vial of holy water, the ground bones of Saint Edgar, and his most prized possession of all- one of the great Holy Hand Grenades.

History

At age 12 he was chosen to become a Witch Hunter, and consequently removed from his parents and sent to a secluded monastery, where he would be trained in the art of combatting the most foul creatures imaginable. At the age of 15 he graduated, quickly rising to prominence as someone who could learn quickly, and never let his faith falter. He served for 10 years, during the course of which he successfully caught and burned thousands of heretics, and defeated numerous Demons and oher such creatures. His distinguished record was recognised by a number of religious leaders, who all agreed on what a credit he was to organised faith. Then, 3 months later, it happened. He was attacked and bitten by a group of vampires. Though he fought back and managed to vanquish them, the damage was done. Though he had not been converted to a "true" vampire, enough of his blood had been drunk and replaced to make him a half-blood. Not knowing where to turn for this, he went to his best friend for help. Horrified that Elloit had allowed this to happen to himself, the supposed friend declared him Extremis Diabolus, an enemy of the Witch Hunters. Now he is no longer welcome amongst the only world he has ever known, and on the run from his former colleagues. Despite this turn of events, he refuses to bow to his would-be masters amongst the vampire population, instead working freelance for whoever will pay. Of course, he still takes on all manner of awful creatures because he feels it is his duty, but he is much less caring as to whether or not something is "evil", when he himself is an abomination in his own eyes.

So begins...

Elloit Tried to think of something that would help. What was it? What WAS it? Then it hit him. He ran over to the bar, and asked the barkeep for the 'tar drink' he had been given earlier. Running back over, he held it in front of the youth. "Drink this, if you can." he said, slower and more clearly, "It's going to taste worse than the drink I gave you, but it will help." His nose wrinkled a little at the strong tar smell emanating from the blood red liquid. In his rush, he didn't see the antenna on the kid's head, mistaking them for stray strands of hair.

Elloit Watched as the boy began to drink. He clearly wasn't enjoying it, but already the kid's eyes seemed a little less crossed. That meant it was probably working, which was good. Then he saw the antenna for what they really were, and his hand instinctively went to the hilt of his sword, before he pulled it away again. He was not about to harm a child (though back in his own dimension he had done so), particularly seeing as he had no actual jurisdiction whilst on this plane. "Forgive me" he said, once he thought the lad would be clear-headed enough to understand him "Is there anything I can do to repay you?"

“ "That's because the 'bitter stuff' was intended for me. Trust me, when you're older, it will most likely be your best friend." He chuckled slightly at this, glad that the kid was alright. "Surely there must be something I can do for you?" He asked, still feeling guilty over his mistake. ”

“ "You don't want me to tell anyone that you're old enough to drink?" He said, perplexed. "Seems a bit of a strange thing to want to me, but I guess if that's your wish...is there anything else?" To him, hiding his, maybe her, age (he still wasn't sure, but was far too polite to ask) really didn't seem like fitting compensation for causing a drunken stupour. ”

“ "Well, back in my own world neither do I, so consider it my way of repenting." he said, before matching the volume of her voice, "Who puts up fliers? What kind of trouble are you in, exactly?" he asked. Realising she (at least that had now been cleared up) was looking for her hat, he picked it up off the floor, and dusted it off before handing it back to her. ”

Elloit The girl looked much better with a smile on her lips rather than a cross-eyed stare. "But if you don't want to be their leader, why not just refuse. Why run away, and have them chase you down. Believe me, you do not want to spend your life being hunted like an animal." His voice trailed off at that last sentence, and he stared at the table for some moments before continuing, "Might I ask why it is that you feel that you are unfit to lead them?"

Elloit Was no longer able to contain the blood thirst coursing through him. His eyes flashed to red, and though he had to feed, he made sure that he would find a suitable corpse first. He would never feed from something living. Never. "I would love to...stay and...chat..." he said falteringly "but...there is...something...I must...do." Standing up he walked calmly out of the door of the bar, before sprinting off, already on the hunt for a potential meal...

Elloit Walked into the bar slowly, glancing around. He recognised a few people, having spent a couple of days here, and being likely to spend many more. He really didn't want to go anywhere else, if he was honest with himself, enough strangeness happened within the confines of this bar without him going anywhere else. Heading over to the bar, in the exact same manner as he had done so every other time he returned here, he ordered an ale. Rather unsurprisingly, he was in the mood for a drink.

Elloit Noticed the girl he had been talking to yesterday enter the bar, dressed as a boy once more. He couldn't remember what had happened, but it seemed like a part of the conversation was missing from his memory. Maybe he had gotten hammered again. Either way, he should apologise. "Hey!" He shouted "The kid with the green hair! You want anything to drink?"

Elloit Smiled to himself. The youth really did have this very well planned out. "Ok then, Nadi, a glass of water it is. I trust no-one has been...bothering you." The way he said it clearly implied what he was enquiring about. The least he could do for her would be to try to help her remain hidden for as long as she wished it. As the glass was placed in front of him by the barman, he was careful to make sure he picked up the right drink before handing it to Nadiyya.

“ "Take your head off? What would be the point in that? If I was here to harm you, I'd have burned you at the stake." He laughed at his own little joke before realising the startling effect his words may have had, "Of course, I mean you no harm!" He said hurriedly "I would like to meet one of these troublesome teens. It'd be a pleasure to see how tough they are when staring down the barrel of one of these." He drew one of his ornate flintlock pistols and placed it on the bar counter to emphasise his point. ”

“ Clearly he was scaring the crap out of the girl. That was most definitely not his intention. He removed the pistol from the counter and holstered it just as quickly as he had drawn it. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. My line of work is kind of...violent, and it twists your view of such things." Damn the girl was jumpy, she was stuttering terribly now. "Please calm down, I'm not going to do anything if you don't want me to. Just because you are trying to go undetected does not mean you have to sit back and take whatever crap they're throwing at you." He knew the value of his words, with them having always rung true for him in the past. He was trying to stay out of trouble, yes, but he wasn't about to be intimidated or controlled by anybody, either... ”

It is not everyday I meet someone with such an...aversion...for violence, or who is in a somewhat similar situation to myself. If anything, I hope I'm not causing you any trouble, you went really rather pale just then, though admittedly you look alright now." He couldn't imagine why she thought she would be annoying him, they just had a bit of a different outlook on life, was all. ”

“ He leaned in close to her now, before whispering quietly "Unless that's a part of your disguise, you might want to try not to jump so easily. You'll give yourself away before long if you have that reaction every time someone mentions violence, particularly in this place." He indicated the entire pub with a sweep of his hand before speaking more generally "Enough violence, death and murder occurs in and around this place as it is." It was then that he made a mental note to look out for the girl whenever she was around. He didn't want to see her innocence ruined by some bounty hunting twat with a weapon. As much as he hated to make a scene, he knew inside of him that if such an event occured, he would intervene on her behalf. He just hoped that didn't happen. Noticing that his glass was empty, he ordered another ale. "You want a re-fill, Nadi?" ”

Elloit Noticed the girl seemed deeply saddened by his talk of violence within the pub. Maybe she was using this place as some sort of hide-away or escape? "Well, I've actually only been here a few days, maybe they're just having a particularly bad week." His words were entirely truthful, it would do him no good to lie to her over something like this. "Barman, two more ales and another water, please." He said, and then turned slowly back to her, "Actually, in some respects, it's a good sign that you're a little jumpy. Shows you are at least slightly wary or suspicious of those around you. And in this "game", that can mean all the difference between winning and losing." By losing he obviously meant death, but he didn't want to get the girl all worked up again by saying it. As the glasses were placed in front of him, he once again carefully checked that he had got the right one, before handing it to her.

“ "Yes, the "game", that you and I are both playing. The one where if you get caught, you lose." He washed his words away with a gulp from one of his drinks. One thing he didn't want to do was to get caught, but one thing he wanted less than that was to see Nadi caught. He, at least, was capable of defending himself. "Trust me, you'll get a lot better at the "game" the longer you play it. Because there's no way I'm letting you lose just yet." A kind smile cracked his face as he spoke, the first genuine one in years. To think that someone so clueless had managed to escape capture this long! ”

“ "Well, you're welcome. It is the first truly good deed I have done in my entire life, I think." He replied. The girl looked so much better with a smile on her face, rather than the mix of confusion and fear that seemed ever-present. Feeling the need to somehow seal the deal, he reached up to his armour and grabbed one of the many purity seals that were doubted about his person. With a sharp tug, it came free, and he held it out in front of him. He took a moment just to stare at the waxen circle (roughly the size of a with the parchment hanging from it. He remembered exactly what he had been given it for without reading the inscription- vanquishing the Daemon Char'a'Nak. He then held it out to her, saying, "Here, I want you to have this, keep it in your pocket, or under your hat or something. That way, even if you change your disguise or appearance, I will know it is you." ”

“ "I doubt you'll lose it!" He laughed, the seal stood out just enough from everything else in this place to be instantly recognisable. He wasn't entirely sure what the agitated movement of the antenna meant, but when they flung off her hat he quickly picked it up and placed it on her head, hoping that no potential threats had seen it. Had they been in the relative anonimity of a booth, he would have been a bit more relaxed, but whilst at the bar they were visible to practically anyone. "If you do lose it though, then come see me again and I'll give you another one, as you can see, I've got plenty!" and he swept his hand across his body to prove it. He briefly wondered if giving her one of the icons about his neck would be more practical than the waxen seal, but it was also less recognisable. Overall, he felt more comfortable knowing that she had the seal. He hoped it would also remind her that he was always around, if she ever needed help. ”
