Eras

Dead star, evil God, rising again.

Description

There were three star-gods; Atargatis, Sagittae, and Eras. In their eternal dance, the Twin Suns dance around one another while Eras, the bloated, red overseer, skirted their duet with jealousy. So great was his jealousy that he sacrificed just a fraction of his bulk to create a dancing partner of his own, whom he named Gaia.Compared to the Twin Stars and especially Eras, Gaia was a miniscule goddess, beholden to Eras in every way. Whereas the Twins revolved in tandem, Gaia was forced to twirl around Eras’ heaving bulk on her own. The Dance continued in this manner for untold millennia, with the jealous Eras adding more companions and accessories to Gaia in form of her Tassels (moons) and Girdle (Rings).

But still, his forced dance with the tiny Gaia did not hold the same, pure beauty that the Twins’ Dance held, and so he threw his anger upon Gaia, since she could bear no more celestial adornments, though she herself had grown beautiful in ways that not even Eras had designed. For unlike the Twin Stars or Eras, Gaia had cooled and grown, coming eventually to harbor life, which she cherished. It was nothing grand, nor complex, but it was hers and hers alone, and she loved all of it. Eras knew this, and so began his designs to forever tarnish her beauty. For Eras’s anger was shapeless and uncontrolled, and though in that time his power and light was greater than that of Atargatis or Sagittae, even combined, he had neither their restraint nor their divine mindset to direct it outside of his own sphere of influence.

Now, in that time, the first peoples of Gaia were beginning to come into their first minds, and learn how to work the gifts of The Mother to their needs. Many shapes they came in, and though Alneh, Elf, and Dwarf kind generally assert themselves as the first of Gaia’s Children, all thinking peoples of Gaia emerged at approximately the same point in history. This ignition of mindfulness, and meetings of the First Kings, marks the technical start of Gaia's recorded history. The first empires of the Children were great, and stretched across the globe from Ellaria to Siv’en. To that end, so too went the Servants of Gaia, known in the oldest tongues as the Ithquent. Their wisdom was of the star-gods', and their magic was primal. It is said that they could also take the shapes of the firstborn of Gaia, and would sometimes walk the land under the guise of wisemen and sages. The Ithquent organized the first teachings of magic to mortal kind, and the people of Gaia entered into a short golden age.

Then, Eras, seeing that Gaia was growing strong with the bounty of her Gift of Life, grew jealous that her beauty might even surpass his. In retribution, he committed the Rape of Gaia, and bade the Great Colossi to rise from the surface of the planet herself. The deep wells of the seas and the thunderheads of the skies shuddered and convulsed in anguish as the Destroyers arose. Seven there were, mightier and greater in size than could be glimpsed by either man or Precursor.

Doubtless, nearly everything that the Children of Gaia had wrought before the Rape of Gaia was utterly destroyed, and the history of the world until that point was lost along with those works. Only those few scattered tribes remained, each led by one of the Ithquent to protect them with their limited sorceries.

It was not within the power of the Ithquent, who later came to be called The Precursors, to destroy the Colossi themselves. They did, however, know that it was by Eras' hand that the Colossi walked, and so they besought the succor of his siblings, Atargatis and Sagittae, to put an end to the wanton destruction.

There was a limit to what the Twin Star Gods could do directly, for Gaia was of Eras's divine making and body, and thus beholden to him. They could, however, confront Eras himself. Three times the Twins commanded Eras to cease the abuse of his Daughter, and three times Eras refused. Then the twins took long council, for nearly 100 years, causing great distress amongst the Ithquent. Atargatis and Sagittae had compassion and pity for the Children of Gaia, but they also loved their brother Eras, in spite of his vile ways. Finally, just when the Children were on the brink of destruction, the Twin Star Gods acted.

All souls of Gaia looked in astonishment as the day of the Sundering of Eras came. Eras, who had until that time been a great, red blight in the soft skies of Gaia, was shattered to pieces by two rays of brilliant retribution from Atargatis and Sagittae. The brilliance of Eras diminished and disippated into the aether of the Gaia system, and drifted for a short time before the Twins enacted their second Miracle. Upon holding audience with the greatest of the Precursors, the Twins channeled the drifting power of of Eras into their bodies, instilling them with might and power so great that it could scarcely be contained in mortal form. Under the diminished red light of Eras, the Ithquent known as Syros and Sol pledged to undo the Colossi at any and all costs, save the extinction of the people they sought to protect.

To that end, the Twin Gods enacted their final Miracle, and sent the Gaia Stones to the besieged planet, borne by the first and only lifeforms created by Atargatis and Sagittae themselves; dragonkind. These legendary wyrms, larger and more terrible than tales can tell, would be fitting allies against the Colossi, and the Stones they brought with them would serve to ensnare the seething, enraged minds of the Eras’ Children.

For indeed, though the Ithquent had become mighty in absorbing the shredded power of Eras, it was no small feat to slice through a mountain, or slay the very sea itself. In this, the Colossi had one weakness; their minds. The Slayer, Syros, created a spear from the very essence of the Dark Star within himself; a fell weapon that could not only slice through any stone or darkness, but also tear out the minds of its victims. The battles, then, were epic in scale and cannot be recounted here.

Slowly but surely, the minds of the Colossi were torn from their immense bodies and stuffed hastily into the confines of the seven Gaia stones. At their removal, the titanic remains of the Colossi, though still living, became still and heedless. Though many have become hidden and shrouded by the eons, the Exalted Mountains on Siv’en mark the remains of Ni’Thorne, and it is said that a great desert of raw ice still blooms forth from the body of Hoargraskr, who was slain at the very crown of Gaia.

Then, the Star Dragons helped the Ithquent construct the The Crystal Tower, placing therein the seven Gaia Stones to be guarded for all time. Syros, weary at his battles, diminished from the world, leaving Sol the Gatekeeper to watch over the Tower and guard it with a lake of acid, so that Gaia need never suffer again the torture of The Destroyers.

Now it was that the Children of Gaia began to count their days again, and once again scattered to the far reaches of The Mother. The Precursors and Star Dragons scattered with them, mating and proliferating in their own ways, but never wholly forgetting the times of Eras’ evil. Nor was the power of the Colossi completely vanquished, but by sheer serendipity it would not reemerge for many an age.

So begins...

Far, far, far, far, far to the north, there was a change in the skyline. One of the peaks was taller than before, and odd shaped as well. It was legitimately puncturing the clouds, unlike the rest, which was especially unusual. Those who knew the signs would know that the first of the Colossi had awoken.

The edges of the clouds began to visibly pinken. Beyond the rolling cumulonimbi Eras grew stronger, absorbing more of Gaia and whatever forces dare venture close. An uncomfortably long thunder boomed in the Weargtooth Mountains.

Brunnard the Blacksmith was hard at work within the viking forge at Rainbow Falls deep within the rockface of the Kadota Peaks when suddenly, very strange occurrences began to happen. The white scattered clouds above started to close together, forming a large dark mass which overshadowed the entire mountain. A strange vortex brewed, forming in the skies high above. This phenomenon was soon followed by rumbling thunder and crackling lightning as the misty rainbow beneath the waterfall began to fade and disappear. The peaks trembled as suddenly, a bolt of lightning came down and struck the forge, causing a loud snap. Suddenly, a great many of Brunnard's Batteries would explode or catch fire, being destroyed in an instant array of electrical sparks and flames. A pinkish bolt of lightning struck the anvil, cleaving it in half. Brunnard was sent flying backwards, the hammer in his hand being sent whirling across the room. Luckily, most of the electrical charge would go into the forging hammer, but the force of the KP lightning was still powerful enough to knock Brunnard off of his feet and render him unconscious.

At the same time, all of the Norsemen's crystal stones were suddenly cracked or broken, their glowing green lightbulbs being shattered or exhausted. Fordorn the Wise had been the first to be inspired by the Rainbow Falls, and suggested that they design lights using multiple color spectrums. The craftsmen combined his ideas with others inspired by Iskjerne's sunstones to invent different ways to see through clouds and smoke, or detect heat signatures. But now all of those inventions would be destroyed by unseen forces, all of this happening while Furdorn was away at the new settlement on the Empyrean Sea Beach with the rest of his leidang.

Caile Douglasson from Clan Douglas was in the forging center at the time of the explosion and ran over to help Brunnard, slapping his cheek to make him regain consciousness. Caile's own inventions were also effected by the great rift in the sky, as some of his glass-blowing projects were either shattered or melted. Brokkr the Smith was recently returning to Kadota Peaks by cattle wagon after making some deliveries to Iskjerne Bay, and he witnessed the brewing storm and crackling thunder as he drove his wagon up the rocky trail to the mountaintop. "Whoa!" he said, steering the frightened cattle up the trail. Kettil Flatnose the blacksmith was also present during these things. He had watched as his son Hrollaug the Walker used his might to push the Hregg Drekki, and also as the forces of Eras destroyed the Norsemen's technology.

What now? Kettil Flatnose thought quietly to himself. The computer systems were down. The lasers and other technological equipment was destroyed. Only the Norsemen's original Viking Age technology remained, along with a few black stones that were already half drained of their luminescent power. It would take more power than this to make the Hregg Drekki fly, Kettil thought as he peered down the mountainside towards the lands below.

#, as written by Sigurd
It had been several months since Sigurðr "Ringtaker" Randvérsson had been visited by the Norse angel of death, the one whom the Iskjerne settlers refered to as the Olde Mother, a very old blind woman who had foretold the future of their kingdom. Olde Mother had made several predictions, many of which it seemed were now coming to pass. "I see your destiny, Great King Sigurd" she had told him. "I see wonders that no king before you has ever laid eyes upon" she said more intently. She would fumble with the rune some more. "I see a castle, and the great hall in which the throne sits, larger than this very room" the creepy old woman added. "I see that you have been favored by the gods," she paused for a moment to catch her breath, after dropping the rune on the table. "I see your doom, Great King Sigurd" she said quietly. "I see ashes and giants, nightmares and terrors that your fathers never spoke of" the creepy woman continued. "You will have a great choice to make," she said. "Depending on what you do, it could be your last" she prophesied, before collecting all of her bone runes and putting them back in her bag.

The oracle was wise beyond belief, and now seven months later, her words were coming to pass. King Sigurd contemplated silently as Azaka and Kamidake quietly kept their defensive stances, watching as everyone began to assemble around them. Yukiko made her next move too, sliding the wooden tiara onto her head, threading it through her hair, and adjusting it so it sat securely like a crown around her head. This provided her a mental link to the royal tree Mizuho. Yukiko quietly prayed to it, pleaded with it to come and help. Status symbols flicked across her field of vision, a HUD moving through her ocular cortex and becoming superimposed into her field of vision. The hybrid ship would arrive in due time. They only had to hold out long enough, it's weapons were more than enough to vaporize the entire settlement. Or so they believed.

But the gods did indeed favor the Geatish konung, just as the oracle had foretold. Though it wasn't exactly the way Sigurd Hring had imagined. For the gods were indiscriminate it seemed, as Eras continued to slowly drain the Lands of Gaia of their energy, disabling any and all incompatible technology, both foreign and domestic. "So much as a drop of my blood gets spilled here..." Shimizu warned, pointing to the sky as his Tenchi-ken continued to flicker and weaken with every word. "That thing up there, that is the Sõja, it is my personal flagship" Shimizu said, slowly stepping forward, almost challenging King Sigurd as he looked up briefly towards the sky. But there was more than just the Soja up ahead, and King Sigurd took note of all the happenings in the clouds above.

"So much as a drop of Taiyou blood gets spilled..." Shimizu continued to speak, but by now the Norsemen had began to notice an even greater threat up above. For there in the distance, over the horizon, some of the Weargtooth Mountains had began to move. The great pastel blue silhouette of Asvith Thrym could be seen towering over the sky from miles and miles away, his colossal humanoid jotunn form standing out like a distant tornado reaching from earth to sky. But the late great King of Iskjerne Bay would never say a word, instead allowing Emperor Shimizu to figure things out on his own. "Everything you have worked so hard to build destroyed! With so much as a push of a button," Shimizu continued on, completely oblivious to the whole situation and also to his immediate surroundings.

Just then and without warning, Emperor Shimizu turned and stepped in towards King Sigurd, preparing to strike him down with the Tenchi blade, but before he could follow through, Shimizu would suddenly feel a hand on his shoulder, pulling him back. "Stop," Princess Yukiko urged her younger brother, her words still audible to the vikings who surrounded them. It all seemed to happen so fast as Gwyneth the Shield-maiden kept her arrow notched and aimed at Yukiko's torso with every move she made. Sigurd would stand perfectly still, keeping his round viking shield in front of him as he braced himself for combat. As this was happening, some of the women in the black veils started chanting, while Hrollaug held up both axes menacingly, gazing at Azaka and Kamidake from behind his father's shield. The guardian's were correct in their own thought process. This wasn't going to end well for either of them. For despite their alleged power, King Sigurd had the advantage, something which Emperor Shimizu failed to acknowledge.

Another crack of thunder filled the bay...

"Shimizu, please... let's go home." Yukiko pleaded. Shimizu kept his gaze locked with Sigurd, before he extinguished Tenchi and whipped around. He shoved Yukiko aside, knocking her to the ground as he stormed towards Kayabuki, grabbing the middle aged woman by the collar, and pulling her close to him. King Sigurd gritted his teeth. Hrollaug suddenly tried stepping forward to put an end to the tyranny, but Sigurd pushed him back, keeping his son from getting involved just yet. "Wait," he said quietly, his angry eyes gazing at Emperor Shimizu with contempt. "I want an army commissioned, equipped, and trained to fight on this world." The Emperor hissed. "These people will be made to pay for their impudence" he added. King Sigurd briefly glanced over to Jarl Evan and Jarl Ivan, gesturing them to move into position, before turning his attention back to Shimizu.

Just then, the Taiyou emperor would shove Kayabuki away from him, causing her to stumble backwards several paces before Azaka moved to catch her. Hrollaug kept his attention on both of them, but now his hatred was turning into pity. What kind of a coward would treat his women with such disrespect? Surely, he would pay for his tyranny and for his personal behavior. Emperor Shimizu raised Tenchi in the air again, and used it to mentally call out to his flagship. A spherical portal opened up several paces away from Shimizu, crackling, and hissing, it took several moments to stabilize. Shimizu began to walk towards it, leaving Kraiger Nallesson where he sat. But as the Taiyou emperor went to leave, a large group of Northmen would gather into position, stepping in between Emperor Shimizu and his escape route, blocking his pathway to the portal.

It was Jarl Ivan and Jarl Evan, along with their gangs. The standing viking army would form yet another wall, locking their shields together to prevent Shimizu's escape. "Shimizu Takayama!!!" King Sigurd shouted, tossing his shield aside before stepping forward behind him slowly. Gwyneth never lowered her bow for even one second as she pointed her arrow at the guardians, motioning for them to step back as King Sigurd stepped forward. Hrollaug would look over to Azaka and Kayabuki as he too stepped forward, but now they could see that his expression towards them had changed considerably. Deep down in his stomach, the prince almost felt sad for them. Although he was still prepared to kill them at a moment's notice, the prince had eased up in his aggression. It was clear that he did not really want to fight them. The real enemy here was Shimizu, but Prince Rollo the Walker still kept a watchful eye on the guardians, taking note of their fancy staffs and of their every move.

Lord Bruce of Essex would glance back at Takao Eguchi, who was still helping the wounded, before turning his gaze upon Seno Miyagi, never allowing either of them to leave his sights. King Sigurd would gaze down at Princess Yukiko quietly, fury in his eyes as he gritted his teeth, gazing down over her with his viking sword. At that moment, it appeared he had the perfect opportunity to strike her dead. He waved his sword in front of her eyes, the runic inscriptions on the blade reflecting off her face as he gazed down at the fallen princess in the wet snowy mud. He would touch the tip of his blade to her chin, lifting her chin up, before gently trailing his blade up her cheek along the side of her face. To her surprise, the blade was slightly dull and cold to the touch. Sigurd's hand was gentle, however, his movements slow as he drew his blade along the side of Yukiko's face, never even so much as scratching her skin as he peered down into her eyes.

With the tip of his sword, Sigurd would slowly loop the wooden tiara around his blade and remove it from Yukiko's hair. He gazed down at her briefly, dangling the wooden gem incrested tiara on the tip of his blade in front of her eyes before lifting it away from her reach. As he lifted his sword, the tiara would slide down the blade towards his hand guard. He had no idea about the magic qualities of the tiara, nor did he care. But the gemstone was fascinating to him, and the intricately carved tiara would make a lovely gift for his daughter, who was also a princess. Sigurd handed the tiara over to Lord Bruce before removing one of his gloves. Then without warning, King Sigurd did the unthinkable. He extended his free hand, offering to help Princess Yukiko back to her feet.

Afterwards, he turned his hateful gaze again towards Shimizu, who was still being prevented from escape by the king's jarls and their leidangs. A slight smirk formed upon the Norse king's face as he pointed the tip of his sword again, this time at Shimizu himself as Gwyneth kept her focus on Yukiko for even the slightest hint of an attack. This time it was personal. Jarl Evan and his Harii warriors gazed at Emperor Shimizu menacingly, as Sigurd Hring waited patiently for the emperor to address him. All the while, other forces around them continued to be at play. There was magic in the air, unseen and unfelt, but very much alive and active as the women in the black veils continued chanting softly behind the shieldwalls.

The World Spirit of Gaia herself appearing to each Champion in turn. She was a leaf in a tree, a whisper on the wind, a falling rock, the pattern of the rain. If you were lucky enough, she appeared to you in a dream. No matter the approach, the message was clear.

The Champions of Gaia were called upon. Princess Yukiko and Sigurd Hring were called upon.

A sparkle twirled up their forms and ascended. The point of the blade and the crown flashed as they made contact.

Deep, deep below, the something shifted further. Far below the layers of soil built over the centuries there was more than a minor disturbance. While in the heavens the great evil against Gaia flexed power, below the earth of Gaia was that power's release. There were many tales of these mountains. Many still believed that they were created from creatures long ago. Many more shirked it as a story to tell around the fire. Society, especially Skyfall, had grown to forget the old ways.

It's hard to forget what you've always been. Thunder cracked in the sky.

There was a great crack. The side of the mountain split open, spurting dirt and rocks. Dust rose, and as it cleared the crack in the mountain opened like a maw, stone peeled away to reveal smooth obsidian. It curved, and twitched, and it would become more than obvious to the nord on the next ridge, that this wasn't just a crack with precious stone behind.

It was an eye.

A subtle glitter undulated across the mountains, the call of Gaia. Barely noticeable to the naked eye, but nonetheless the Spirit of the Realm calling for the Champions to rise.

Bjorg sighed as he opened the trunk hidden beneath his floorboards. His helmet stared up at him, and Bjorg looked through the empty eyes that had seen so much bloodshed. The ebony steel, elegantly fused with dragonborn, looked crimson-stained to his eyes.

But such was the price of freedom. Someone had to shed blood so that the hands of others remained clean. One lone nord bore the guilt for a thousand others.

A whisper caught his attention, and Bjorg clenched his fist and steeled his will. He turned to a nearby field where an empty patch of dirt sat desolate amidst a sea of grass. Nothing but dead earth, sapped of all life, had existed there since Bjorg had hidden that accursed blade.

He picked Wuuthrad off his mantle, swung his pack over his shoulder, and set out to the forsaken burial ground.

Sometime later, the jagged black longsword lay on the ground. The whispers were stronger now, and he could feel the daedric corruption - the hate and bloodlust - like a noxious fog that made his head swim.

“You all came to me, seeking either my soul or my flesh.” Bjorg snarled.

The whispers hissed.

“You came, but you fell at my feet by my blade. I ripped out your hearts as trophies, and still, you sought me. Still, you whispered from beyond the grave. By Talos, you’re still doing it.”

They laughed.

“Then I forged you into a weapon against your own kind. Forged by forgotten rituals using your accursed souls. I made you into a weapon for good, but even as I cut down every draugr, bandit, daedra, and dragon that dared threaten my people… Still, your silver tongues whispered at my heart. I couldn’t get rid of you though. I couldn’t risk someone else being tempted by you. I tamed you. I broke you. YOU. OBEY. ME!”

The daedra souls snarled in defiance, but Bjorg thundered with a voice that shook the mountain… and the whispered went quiet.

As the mountain grew silent, Bjorg reached down and picked up the Oblivion Blade. The metal felt light in his grip, but heavy on his heart. The whispers were still there, if not cowed, but Bjorg ignored them.

He sheathed the cursed sword and set out to the mysterious crack, wondering where destiny would take him next.

Eras felt a tingle as a sliver of Gaia's strength was ripped back. Yet the being was far preoccupied with his eye close on a bay in a land far away to realize the strength of the Champion here in the Exalted Mountains. Gaia had chosen well. A being not only able to resist the great dark forces of the realms, but have command of them. The Oblivion Blade shimmered as Gaia blessed Bjorg, a Champion of Gaia.

The sound of stone scraping stone echoed through the mountains as the Colossi turned head, lifted shoulder, and officially began to rise. The mountains almost seemed to vibrate as slowly the head of the Colossi rose to the horizon. Obsidian eyes caught the pink light of the clouds, surveying the mountains as still the Colossi upwards did rise. Long arms extended to support the Colossi as for the first time in Ages he stood up. His hands were still firmly planted beneath the earth. Where they were, the ground rippled and cracked. The Colossi tested out his fingers as the top of his head breached the pinked clouds, which sat on his brow above those dark eyes.

The Skyfall Crypts rattled far below, the bones of the ancients coming to life to whisper about the end of times coming again, about all the Champions through the ages rising to meet Eras and do battle for the future of Gaia. Eras glanced his attention over to Siv'en, where his greatest Colossi continued as expected, and turned his attention back to Iskjerne Bay, across the seas and half a world away.

A subtle glitter undulated across the mountains, the call of Gaia. Barely noticeable to the naked eye, but nonetheless the Spirit of the Realm calling for the Champions to rise. Were there any in Skyfall Citadel who would heed the call?

The faint sound of stone scraping stone bounced off the walls of Skyfall Citadel. The mountains almost seemed to vibrate as slowly the head of the Colossi rose to the horizon off in the distance. Obsidian eyes caught the pink light of the clouds, surveying the mountains as still the Colossi upwards did rise. Soon he was visible from the citadel. Long arms extended to support the Colossi as for the first time in Ages he stood up. His hands were still firmly planted beneath the earth. The top of his head breached the pinked clouds still dumping rain here in the Skyfall Citadel, which sat on his brow above those dark eyes.

There he stood in the horizon. His brow passed through the clouds, though his obsidian eyes surveyed the Exalted Mountains. He glanced over far to the east, swept his gaze from there to Valley of Dorant, a strange place of recent history that was a popular destination for those who liked to go hiking and never again return. There, the Colossi frowned. A pulse of Gaia's magic grew stronger somewhere in the mountains as well. The floating mountains hovered a little higher again as Gaia's blessing was accepted elsewhere in the mountains. The head hovering over the horizon focused it's attention to that spot. The remaining foundation of a town on the back of his left shoulder was made visible as the Colossi turned, dust rushing through the mountains as Ni'Thorne moved.

The walls of the citadel protected the main city from these dusts, but those living on the outskirts rushed the gates in a panic. It wasn't much longer before the alarm was sound.

Meanwhile, in Norde Keep, the Oracle of Skyfall was to be put on trial. A false king had risen to the throne in the turmoil from years past, managing to slip through the ranks. He remained one of the most feared and hated individuals, his heart set on a lady he couldn't have. He did not believe the legends, felt Eras would never come back and Gaia was a fairy tale you told children so they didn't believe people like He could exist. As the corruption in Skyfall grew stronger, so did Eras, feeding off of their evil ways.

"A greater storm is coming!" Shouted an elf to the dwarven smith running for cover into the nearest tavern with her. Those who had not made it to the Norde Keep to witness the trial weren't about to leave while an alarm was being rung to keep them safe. What was happening, anyhow? You couldn't see the horizon from most points in Skyfall Citadel, but those who did would have fear struck deep into their hearts. Those who did would surely denounce the king.

The faint sound of stone scraping stone echoed through The Exalted Mountains. The mountains almost seemed to vibrate as slowly the head of the Colossi rose to the horizon off in the distance. Soon he was visible from the Skyfall Citadel. The top of his head breached the pinked clouds still dumping rain here in the Skyfall Citadel, which sat on his brow above those dark eyes.

There he stood in the horizon.

The alarm sounded as far as down into the Golden Vale, citizenry of Skyfall reaching a level of panic as lightning storms continued to ravage the lands. Meanwhile, in Norde Keep, the Oracle of Skyfall was to be put on trial. As the corruption in Skyfall grew stronger, so did Eras, feeding off of their evil ways.

The great rains continued, pouring into the mines. If they didn't act soon there would be a flood! The Exalted mountains rumbled as not too far off a great Colossi stirred. A subtle glitter undulated across the mountains, the call of Gaia. Barely noticeable to the naked eye, but nonetheless the Spirit of the Realm calling for the Champions to rise.

The sound of stone scraping stone echoed down into the mines. It would take a while to see it from down in the Capwell Mines but a head would rise to breach the clouds on the horizon.

There he stood. The Capwell Mines were thankfully exempt, the cloud wooshing over them and passing the downward spiral by.

It would take a while to see it from down in Dorant Valley but a head would rise to breach the clouds on the horizon. It was made of stone, and there were great scraping noises as it rose. The being glanced down to the valley, but turned it's attention away from the sword and the creature to someone else.

Artrea awoke. The surface of Eras bubbled as the light of Artrea began to shine down on Gaia.

From the start of the very earth's trembling; the few remaining Realm Forgers had begun their last motions in a plan long in the making, the ancient people built this last forge after the forming of these mountains all those millennia ago. Kardel ushered the last of the Forge masters deep into the underground, away from the body of the colossi.

Riak watched as his father and his people abandoned the last forge, his goal elsewhere, he would do battle as the previous Thane had done, the 14ft tall giantlike being bounded through the tunnels and veins that wormed throughout the Colossi, carrying a bundle of Pitons a foot long and at least 4inches thick. he would use these magic imbued pitons to destroy a leg at least, once embedded in the rock with a whispered command phrase the Pitons would explode with the power of a megatonne bomb.

the Thane would breach the surface at the waist, standing on a ledge that had eroded into the body of the giant monster in its slumber.

"Never did we think this day would come... and for that, we were ill-prepared." unhooking a pair of gauntlets and a pair of metal frames to be worn over his boots, the spiked items would allow him some manner of safety as he began the climb towards the heart.

The sound of glass shattering echoed throughout the Crystal Tower.

The Stone of Spirit, placed here long ago, had shattered. Something that would have been thought impossible by Those Who No Longer Roam. In the ages since they wandered Gaia much had changed. External forces came into play, and so the native forces of Gaia were weakened. In their weakened state, Eras flexed his power. A colossus officially woke up. Hoargraskr laughed; let Nightfall begin.

While the Stone of Earth remained in it's safe spot, it hummed. Far off in the Exalted Mountains, Ni'Thorne began to stir. Though the mind of the great Colossus was still trapped here, it seemed Eras himself was channeling power to puppeteer the Earthen beast. As grateful as Ni'Thorne was for being brought to life, part of Ni'Thorne resented Eras for being the cause of his entrapment.

Of similar opinion, Maelstr stirred.

Eras focused the entirety of his concentration for the moment onto Ni'thorne. Though the great beast of earth seemed to be alive, it was not. Though to the beings on Gaia the Colossi had awoken, it had only done so half-wise. Being such, Ni'thorne moved at a pace unusual to that of his past.

This is not to say the pace seemed any slower. A great creature made of mountain growing skywards at any rate at all could be considered rapid, as these things simply didn't used to happen. But Ni'thorne was brought to turmoil. To rise in such an embarrassing fashion, pathetic. Far away in the center of a lake, in a room in a tower, a stone buzzed like a nest of hornets.

Because of the disconnect from mind and body, because of the pure effort and output of mana it took Eras to control Ni'thorne, Riak went entirely unnoticed by both Destroyers. Neither the growing star in the sky nor the angered Colossus on Gaia took note of the parasitic Realm Forger. The Realm Forgers had been there for so long, they had truly become a part of Ni'thorne. The same sparkle which had danced up the Oblivion Blade came round to Riak as well. It spiraled up his leg to his crown- the blessing of Gaia. Another Champion had been chosen.

Eras (through Ni'thorne) saw Bjorn, a prick of a heat signature in the distance. The Colossus oh so slowly focused his black eyes on the nord. They were like dead stars themselves set in a squared stone skull. A disturbed group of griffons circled ahead. Black lines faded into the horizon as all the birds fled the Exalted Mountains.

Much like the rest of northern Ellaria, ever since the arrival of the Soja, it had been night. So long as the great ship remained the darkness remained, although the clouds glowed eerily pink at the edges.
