Not mine and never will be. Drawn by M.Smith.

Friends: Fox, Ranpu, Sir Lucian, Mr Castle, Max, Norrington, Cyrus and Steph.

Appearance:

The first thing people noticed was the bright yellow headband that pushed her long auburn fringe back away from her face, presumably to allow her to see clearly when she worked. A silence had descended over the corridor as the staff watched her curiously, realising with a startling clarity that her slightly larger than normal grey eyes were observing them as well, an inquisitive spark setting them alight as if she was staring into candlelight. Her face was smudged with ink and graphite, suggesting that she had indeed been working on a project, as the roll of paper in her hand gave testament to. No one had been expected her to be quite so..., well, short, but small she was, not even reaching five foot three by estimated guesses, but her physique was quite athletic, suggesting that prior to her appointment she had liked to keep fit.

Only now did people pay attention to her clothing, which was remarkably simple – a navy t-shirt, emerald green combats partnered with rainbow trainers, her brightly coloured ensemble already marking her in the minds of everyone. Later, only her yellow headband would remain constant, her unique style gone in favour of practical clothes, though still in vibrant hues but no one would forget their first sight of her, as even though the sunny clothes vanished, her sunny personality remained.

If she is not in her workshop clothes (which largely consist of her yellow headband, dark coloured shirts and various loose trousers) - which is a rare thing; then she favours colourful knee length skirts partnered with leggings or tights with small low-heeled tan boots. Her upper body clothing can be anything from a long sleeved top and waistcoat, to a frilly blouse. Her hair is mostly worn low down, normally in a plait or braid in the workshop and a loose ponytail everywhere else.

As most of her time is spent indoors, it is no real surprise that Kendra’s complexion is incredibly fair, which is only highlighted by her yellow headband and constantly smudge ridden face and hands.

About a year into her first job, Kendra found herself bored one evening and on her own, pierced her own ears in her bathroom, emerging the next day with a set of hammered silver circles as earrings, which she has never been known to touch, except during the first six weeks of healing and have never been removed.

Personality:

It is incredibly accurate to describe Kendra as an optimist; always able to find the upside to any situation, though she is not naive enough to believe that everyone is good. This attitude originated from her mother’s belief that if you always found a reason to smile – even in times of strife – you would always be able to do your best. Her inspirational creativity forms a part of her personality that is core to her sunny nature, her mind working in a freakish manner, her bizarre logic allowing her to connect dots faster than most people. Of course, she gets stressed like any person with a considerable job to fulfil, but Kendra battles through with the support of a fantastic team of friends and supporters. This being said, there has not been a recorded incident of Kendra ever getting angry, although she has been rather famously known for the degree of silent treatment she can dole out if she is annoyed. Also, nothing tends to get designed if she’s in a mood; well it does, but it takes a few days longer. Her skills are considerable, but not impossible to match.

Likes:

If you asked the bright Kendra what her favourite things were, you would potentially be sat in exactly the same chair for about four hours, as there is not much that Kendra does not like. If pressed Kendra would first tell you that she loves her job most of all, especially seeing the completed product, whether it was a building, weapon or truck. Secondly, she would pronounce her love for drawing with more traditional equipment, discarding more advanced technologies for graphite and a board, moving onto the more accessible technologies once she is past the first stages of design. Lastly, but by no means least, the young architect would tell you that her third favourite thing is being able to be herself and be respected despite her personality because of her talents.

Dislikes:

Weapons. Kendra dislikes every weapon she makes, knowing they are a necessary evil and required to live the way they want to but Kendra has no love of combat, preferring to create ways of defending the city than trying to deal with the threat head-on. Lying is second on her list of peeves, because lying doesn’t solve anything, often only exacerbating a problem beyond manageable levels, creating stress that didn’t need to exist. There is also no fondness in Kendra’s heart for those who feel to protect their home that they need to be stoic and unfeeling, believing that the strongest weapon that you can have is your conviction to protect your home and people, not quite understanding that military personnel are quite skilled at masking emotions.

Equipment:

Despite being the co-designer of many of the wondrous technologies that benefit the modern day world, Kendra herself does not own any particularly advanced equipment, excluding her workshop utensils and her personal communicator, which she has affectionately named Archie. This communicator has been with her since she began her career within the world of enigneering design, adapted over time to suit her needs. Its most recent tweaks involve the ability to be able to contact any public communicator – whether it is a telephone or instant messenger – allowing her to receive requests easily. It also allows her to keep track of important events , as she spends a great deal of her time within the workshop floor, leaving most of the field work to others who are more comfortable travelling outside the complex. It is DNA activated; enabling only Kendra to use it and so she stores a great number of her unfinished and finished plans on it, rather than on her workshop computer. It is the size of a modern iPhone, the slim technology allowing it to be portable.

The newest addition to Archie is a small stun gun, giving Kendra a method of defence, as she is not very physically inclined.

Kendra’s only weaponry is Archie, though the compound she lives within is quite secure.

History:

Everyone suspects that her gift is a miracle and most people do not know how she was discovered by the Government. Kendra Lawrence and her family know how the Government find their architects, though even after twenty-seven years of life, why she has been blessed with the gift is a mystery.

Up until her fifth year in the world, Kendra Lawrence had a relatively normal upbringing, except that she didn’t really do the things that normal children did, which baffled her parents and teachers. Instead of playing with toys and engaging socially with her peers, the young prodigy could speak with the grace and intelligence of a fourteen year old and spent her time designing toys with crayons and paper, then constructing them perfectly with either building blocks or other materials. It was only when Kendra started school that her unusual behaviour was fully recognised by those around her and that attracted the attention of the officials who approached Kendra’s parents, informing them that she had been ‘blessed’ with a rare talent; a flair for architectural and engineering designs. However, the downside would be that although her creativity and intellect would develop steadily over time, it be would virtually impossible for Kendra to learn normal things, like how to ride a bike and how to be socially ‘normal’. This was the price paid for her genius and it was not a voluntary cost.

Norrington perks his ears up. "Her? Oh." They drop again as he accepts the spoon, bringing it to his mouth and lowering it to the bowl empty once more. "Yeah, she's nice to me even through what I do. And that's something I don't get. Endorsement for what I do from a nice person. But you? You're nice too. You'd rather help me then leave me to make a fool of myself in front of all these people."

His tongue flicks out for a bit of icecream on his nose, though he seems to be thoughtful as he does so.

Kendra Anona smiled lightly at his description of Hope as she filled the spoon for the last time, lamenting her own dessert with a look. Ah well, there would always be next time. “Hope has a peculiar way of looking at the world, but it is a good way. As for me,” she stopped, having glanced across the area at the disbelieving faces. Then she stuck her tongue out at them before turning to face him again, going to hand him the spoon.

“Well, of course I'd rather help you. As I said, I like you and you seemed to want the ice cream a lot,” she replied, grinning as his tongue dove out to get some escaping dessert.”

Norrington happily clamps his mouth around the spoon before it even left her hand, but still took the handle for a moment. As the spoon was withdrawn from his jaw he says, "You should take Hope out on a date. I can babysit for the kids for you."

me laughed at his eagerness, shaking her head and looking a little surprised at his offer. “I... We can't, Norrington. It's risky enough going to the bar still on a regular basis. Somewhere with crowds or secluded isn't safe,” she concluded, sighing a little unhappily. “The only dates we get are ones across the country home's grounds. At least there's beautiful scenery.”

One of her hands came to rest over his, smiling. “Thank you though and if the chance ever does arise, I will call on you, be sure!” She then retracted the spoon, setting it in the empty bowl. “There we go.”

Kendra Anona looked a touch embarrassed, flushing. “Well, people shouldn't be so gosh darned rude,” she said quite loudly before shaking her head at his suggestion sadly. “I normally don't leave the house; this was a special occasion. And you're right, I feel much better leaving Rachel with you now after this,” she admitted, smiling.

“The children would love that; you should still come to the house and see them!” she encouraged, taking a quick bite of her pancakes and fruit. “Anyway, we should probably get the bill and leave. It's quite late.”

Kendra Anona looked like she was about to give in for just a second and then shook her head, reaching across the table for her card wallet, drawing out some notes. “I'm going halves with you and that's final, Norrington!” she declared, picking up one of the after dinner mints and eating it slowly, unwrapping a second one and passing it to her companion in query.

Kendra Anona laughed as they organised splitting the bill, as well as the architect leaving a good tip for the waiter. At least he hadn't stared like Norrington was some freak show! It took a moment for her to swallow the mint, smiling as she went to stand.

“Well Norrington, thank you for this evening,” she offered with enthusiasm, sliding her chair back under the table as she did so.

Kendra Anona ooked a tad confused for a moment before smiling broadly and nodding. “Of course! How silly of me,” she said with a jovial smile, reaching out to place her hand on Norrington's arm. “Homeward bound?”

Kendra Anona laughed under her breath, squeezing his arm with a grin plastered on her lips. “Very few people do. Let's just head back to the bar and I'll make my way from there, okay?” she murmured back.

Kendra Anona walked down the street quite amiably with Norrington, his words perking her attention enough for her to tilt her gaze towards him. “Oh? What did I say?” she asked, looking quite curious now.

Kendra Anona halted, looking a little startled but she kept her eyes on him, thinking him ever the stranger. “Don't look at me like that Norrington; I put two and two together. Anona, you hugged her and you spend a lot more time with her than any of us other Anonas. It doesn't take a genius really,” she explained haltingly, feeling a little awkward now, discussing such a thing.

“If I was wrong, I apologise.”

“Then who...” She went to ask, before staring at Norrington's back in unashamed shock. Oh no; it was Hope. It had to be. She was always the one who got the attention, did the right thing. As her mate, she always just played in the background, took care of the children; never noticed.

She began to walk very quickly then to catch up with him then, keeping her eyes determinedly to the floor, praying they got to the bar soon.

Kendra Anona looked up at him in surprise at the noise, blankness on her face before she realised she had been asked a question. “Well... You said that you joked a lot about it. Hope... has a habit of pushing back when people do that... I just assumed...”

Maybe he was toying with her. It was possible and that thought made her feel a little better, relief flowing through her at that realisation though his cockiness was unsettling her still.

Kendra Anona ran a hand through her hair, nearly dislodging her ever-present yellow headband, perturbed. “What... kind of question... is that?” she asked, knowing in her heart of hearts that she would die with Hope. “She's my first love Norrington and I'm bound to die with her.”

But what had frightened her the most was that she was totally ignored his first statement.

Kendra Anona shook her head adamantly, looking quite upset now. “No! I will not answer you to amuse you. How... cruel,” she retaliated, striding to move past him, annoyed that her good mood was fading fast.

Kendra Anona spluttered, taking a step back and shaking her head. Hope... had... no, no... “That has to be a lie,” she returned weakly, still backing away. “I don't understand. I just don't!”

Things had made sense only five minutes ago; why did things have to be confusing again?

Kendra Anona looked mortified, not sure what to do, leaning against the nearest wall for support, her head in hands rather pathetically, still in shock. “What a horrid thing to say...” she muttered, glancing up to watch Norrington's retreating back before shaking her head again. So confused. “How can I trust you if I don't know who you are?!” she said aloud, her voice pleading.

Kendra Anona blinked, unsure what to make of that, reaching an arm backwards to steady herself as she went to stand. “Were you lying?” she asked, taking a few steps forward towards his retreating figure. If he didn't answer, she would just let him go. It was all painful right now.

Kendra Anona looked mortified but kept his gaze. “She didn't refuse you though,” she said. It was a statement, not a question. “I'm angry at myself, never fear. Why do you need us to be close because of that?”

Her question was quietly spoken, her mind racing and some of her naïve faith torn.
