A positive rainbow of optimism defined by her yellow headband.

Not mine and never will be. Drawn by M.Smith.

Friends: Fox, Ranpu, Sir Lucian, Mr Castle, Max, Norrington, Cyrus and Steph.

Appearance:

The first thing people noticed was the bright yellow headband that pushed her long auburn fringe back away from her face, presumably to allow her to see clearly when she worked. A silence had descended over the corridor as the staff watched her curiously, realising with a startling clarity that her slightly larger than normal grey eyes were observing them as well, an inquisitive spark setting them alight as if she was staring into candlelight. Her face was smudged with ink and graphite, suggesting that she had indeed been working on a project, as the roll of paper in her hand gave testament to. No one had been expected her to be quite so..., well, short, but small she was, not even reaching five foot three by estimated guesses, but her physique was quite athletic, suggesting that prior to her appointment she had liked to keep fit.

Only now did people pay attention to her clothing, which was remarkably simple – a navy t-shirt, emerald green combats partnered with rainbow trainers, her brightly coloured ensemble already marking her in the minds of everyone. Later, only her yellow headband would remain constant, her unique style gone in favour of practical clothes, though still in vibrant hues but no one would forget their first sight of her, as even though the sunny clothes vanished, her sunny personality remained.

If she is not in her workshop clothes (which largely consist of her yellow headband, dark coloured shirts and various loose trousers) - which is a rare thing; then she favours colourful knee length skirts partnered with leggings or tights with small low-heeled tan boots. Her upper body clothing can be anything from a long sleeved top and waistcoat, to a frilly blouse. Her hair is mostly worn low down, normally in a plait or braid in the workshop and a loose ponytail everywhere else.

As most of her time is spent indoors, it is no real surprise that Kendra’s complexion is incredibly fair, which is only highlighted by her yellow headband and constantly smudge ridden face and hands.

About a year into her first job, Kendra found herself bored one evening and on her own, pierced her own ears in her bathroom, emerging the next day with a set of hammered silver circles as earrings, which she has never been known to touch, except during the first six weeks of healing and have never been removed.

Personality:

It is incredibly accurate to describe Kendra as an optimist; always able to find the upside to any situation, though she is not naive enough to believe that everyone is good. This attitude originated from her mother’s belief that if you always found a reason to smile – even in times of strife – you would always be able to do your best. Her inspirational creativity forms a part of her personality that is core to her sunny nature, her mind working in a freakish manner, her bizarre logic allowing her to connect dots faster than most people. Of course, she gets stressed like any person with a considerable job to fulfil, but Kendra battles through with the support of a fantastic team of friends and supporters. This being said, there has not been a recorded incident of Kendra ever getting angry, although she has been rather famously known for the degree of silent treatment she can dole out if she is annoyed. Also, nothing tends to get designed if she’s in a mood; well it does, but it takes a few days longer. Her skills are considerable, but not impossible to match.

Likes:

If you asked the bright Kendra what her favourite things were, you would potentially be sat in exactly the same chair for about four hours, as there is not much that Kendra does not like. If pressed Kendra would first tell you that she loves her job most of all, especially seeing the completed product, whether it was a building, weapon or truck. Secondly, she would pronounce her love for drawing with more traditional equipment, discarding more advanced technologies for graphite and a board, moving onto the more accessible technologies once she is past the first stages of design. Lastly, but by no means least, the young architect would tell you that her third favourite thing is being able to be herself and be respected despite her personality because of her talents.

Dislikes:

Weapons. Kendra dislikes every weapon she makes, knowing they are a necessary evil and required to live the way they want to but Kendra has no love of combat, preferring to create ways of defending the city than trying to deal with the threat head-on. Lying is second on her list of peeves, because lying doesn’t solve anything, often only exacerbating a problem beyond manageable levels, creating stress that didn’t need to exist. There is also no fondness in Kendra’s heart for those who feel to protect their home that they need to be stoic and unfeeling, believing that the strongest weapon that you can have is your conviction to protect your home and people, not quite understanding that military personnel are quite skilled at masking emotions.

Equipment:

Despite being the co-designer of many of the wondrous technologies that benefit the modern day world, Kendra herself does not own any particularly advanced equipment, excluding her workshop utensils and her personal communicator, which she has affectionately named Archie. This communicator has been with her since she began her career within the world of enigneering design, adapted over time to suit her needs. Its most recent tweaks involve the ability to be able to contact any public communicator – whether it is a telephone or instant messenger – allowing her to receive requests easily. It also allows her to keep track of important events , as she spends a great deal of her time within the workshop floor, leaving most of the field work to others who are more comfortable travelling outside the complex. It is DNA activated; enabling only Kendra to use it and so she stores a great number of her unfinished and finished plans on it, rather than on her workshop computer. It is the size of a modern iPhone, the slim technology allowing it to be portable.

The newest addition to Archie is a small stun gun, giving Kendra a method of defence, as she is not very physically inclined.

Kendra’s only weaponry is Archie, though the compound she lives within is quite secure.

History:

Everyone suspects that her gift is a miracle and most people do not know how she was discovered by the Government. Kendra Lawrence and her family know how the Government find their architects, though even after twenty-seven years of life, why she has been blessed with the gift is a mystery.

Up until her fifth year in the world, Kendra Lawrence had a relatively normal upbringing, except that she didn’t really do the things that normal children did, which baffled her parents and teachers. Instead of playing with toys and engaging socially with her peers, the young prodigy could speak with the grace and intelligence of a fourteen year old and spent her time designing toys with crayons and paper, then constructing them perfectly with either building blocks or other materials. It was only when Kendra started school that her unusual behaviour was fully recognised by those around her and that attracted the attention of the officials who approached Kendra’s parents, informing them that she had been ‘blessed’ with a rare talent; a flair for architectural and engineering designs. However, the downside would be that although her creativity and intellect would develop steadily over time, it be would virtually impossible for Kendra to learn normal things, like how to ride a bike and how to be socially ‘normal’. This was the price paid for her genius and it was not a voluntary cost.

Kendra Anona grinned now, setting down her cutlery so she could lay her arms across one another on the table, looking pointedly at Norrington. “You're struggling, so eat as you usually do. I don't mind,” she said, tilting her head to the side. “I think I'd liked to be considered your friend. I thought... You mean a lot of Rachel and obviously Hope likes you. I think I made an error in being so quick to judge when we first met, though I'm sure you can understand why.”

She shook her head at the offer of wine with a smile, taking a sip of her water in response, though she did reach out to the ice cold bottle afterwards. “I'll pour if you would like some though.”

Kendra Anona laughed, shaking her head at the poor man's backtracking. “I knew exactly what you meant. Silly guy,” she chastised lightly. “I think you are making a good impression, both through effort and conversation, if it helps.”

The smart ones, eh? “Some people just don't know when to quit when it's good for them, huh?” she said with a nod, taking another mouthful of her pasta. “Now I know the difference, you'll be hard pushed to get rid of me.”

Kendra Anona looked bemused at the first comment, pulling the fork out of her mouth slowly, chewing and swallowing before asking, “Oh, why's that?”

Then she unexpectedly blushed, thrown a little off kilter by that. “I'm... You do remember what happened Hope found out about this right?” she questioned a little incredulously, forking another few pieces of pasta as she looked away. Strange man.

Norrington seemed to perk up slightly, ears rising and mouth curving into what definitely looked like a cat-like smile. "Oh, I'm sure if we just talked to her about it she would be okay with it. I mean, we're friends and its not like there's any real threat from me. Besides, wouldn't it be good to have a strong male influence in Rachel's life? Not going as far to say a father, but just someone different to the military mongers you're always around." The last sentence was very rushed, as if he was trying to get it all out before any implications set in. At the end he winced and tried to force it into a smile.

Kendra Anona was torn between a frown and a chuckle at that. “I did talk to her about this time. She still tried to attack you and god only knows what was said and done there,” she said, nodding slowly at his suggestion, though it seemed rather contradictory. “But I thought you were going to train her in combat. At least those other 'military' mongers haven't tried that yet!” she joked, continuing to eat her food steadily as it began to grow warm rather than hot.

His forced smile made her smile naturally, catching his eye if he would allow her. “You really like Rachel, don't you?”

Norrington nods, grateful for the subject change. "Yes, Rachel's a good kid. I was joking about the combat training. I thought that was the sort of thing you wouldn't want me to do, so I already decided I wouldn't. Besides, you don't want the training I can give." He offers a weak grin, brushing a hand through his hair and biting the chip off his claw. Due to difficulties with forks, he'd never had chips with sauce, thus a small glass pitcher of the stuff sat unused next to his plate. He eyed it suspiciously.

"And I meant if we talked to Hope together and civilly. As a group. The three of us. Talking." Something seemed to make him press the matter, though he wouldn't share what.

Kendra Anona looked rather pleased to hear that affirmation. It helped her relief that he had no intention of training Rachel in combat, looking a little hesitant for a reason that she chose not to disclose. He seemed to regard the tomato sauce with distaste and she laughed, reaching out for a chip and dipping it in the sauce before offering it to Norrington.

“It's not poison you know,” she laughed.

His suggestion made her look at the catperson with intensity. “You're pushing this awfully hard,” she said simply, not giving any real answer yet.

Norrington shakes his head. "I am not. You're just not used to being pushed. It's perspective. And I think Hope will be a lot more reasonable if we sat down as a group and had a nice big talk. And some alcohol. Alcohol would probably help." Being a non-drinker, he'd probably get sloshed before they were through the bottle. Speaking of which...

His paw wraps around the bottle neck, other paw initially fumbling for the lid as he leant forward to take the chip in his mouth. After gobbling it down he set his teeth onto the lid, twisting it off finally and pouring himself a cup.

"You live in a cat-unfriendly world, you know that? I need my gloves again."

He picks the cup up in both hands and tips it down his mouth, spilling some to one side. His behaviour was starting to seem rather erratic and evasive.

Kendra Anona looked rather wry at that. She wasn't used to being pushed... Laughter spilled from her lips, nodding her agreement to his statement. “Getting Hope drunk could be helpful... or not. It's a difficult call to make. But I'll speak with her about talking to both of us if you really insist.”

He took the chip and then struggled to open the bottle, making her frown. “We do. Sorry.” She leaned a little forward to use her napkin to clean up the excess. “Your gloves... Oh! He... had opposable thumbs. But... are you really okay?”

Norrington grins. "Yeah, of course. I used to live on the streets. I'm a feral by blood. I'll figure stuff out." He gives a sideways glance at that moment. "You, ah, what if I'd already asked Hope if I could go on a date with you? Would you be more... well, would you be open to the idea?" he asks quietly.

Kendra Anona gave him a look that suggested that was not quite what she had meant, but she let the comment go regardless, her eyes going unnaturally wide, jerking her arm back across the table, her food quite forgotten.

She didn't reply at all, idly prodding her pasta around the plate with her fork.

Norrington notices the silence, eyes watching Kendra until she moved to make eye contact and quickly looking away if she did. "Yeah, that's okay, I didn't really think you'd be interested. I'm just joking around," he says light-heartedly, "Besides, you'd never get permission from Hope to date me."

It took a few minutes, but eventually, Kendra did risk looking up, both of them averting their gaze almost immediately. “Why?” she asked, seemingly ignoring his backtracking. “Even if you're just joking, why about that?”

Norrington shrugs. "Because I always joke about things like that with women. Haven't you ever heard me talk to Hope?" he asks, then one eye gives a slight twitch. One flaw of always wearing a mask, he had never had to hide his emotions before. "Why? You don't think I'm serious, do you?"

Kendra Anona looked at him as if he was mad. “I've never seen you talk to Hope except that one time with Rachel,” she affirmed, trying to keep a calm facade and failing atrociously. “I didn't think you were serious no. I just... I would never joke about such serious matters.”

Norrington shrugs, failing equally to hide his actual intentions, which in this case was a cover up. "Neither. Well, I mean, shit, y'know? I'm trying to relate to you on some level here," he says, fumbling for his cup to drink from it. "Like I said, doesn't matter, Hope would never suggest it."

Kendra Anona actually found her voice at that, still looking equally stunned. “You're trying to relate to me by trying to... Hell,” she paused, cursing in a most out of character fashion. “Norrington, we have something to relate on and I'm sure given time, we'll find a few more things in common.”

Kindly, she reached forward for his cup, holding it up so he could grasp it properly. He seemed awfully insistent on Hope being against this, which she likely would be, of course.

Norrington nods as he takes another gulp and places the cup down. "Yeah, I know. Hey, so, wow, Rachel, some kid, right?" he says with a shrug. His social skills were also lacking, probably from having no one to talk to but those who hired him and those he killed for too many years. It was amazing he didn't have an invisible friend. "Hell?" he asks, small grin spreading on his face, "So there is a nasty side to you. I was getting worried I wouldn't get to see it. Did you want desert?"

Kendra Anona noted the change of topic, nodding eagerly. “Yes, she really is, especially after what she's been through,” she said with a smile, though there was sadness to her voice. She looked a little mortified at his following comment. “I do not have a nasty side; you were just confusing me!”

Dessert made her nod, not wanting to speak further.
