The Reginald Family

The Shield of Light

0 · 2,087 views · located in Fuchsia City

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by HolyJunkie

Description

Though the implication behind their typical "high-end" attire and their generally authoritative demeanour paints them as mobsters in the eyes of the public, the police know for certain that the Reginalds are every bit as legitimate as their history of championships implies- which is to say they are indeed legitimate. Their family line dates back to the origins of Kanto, when a small family in Fuschia City's son, orphaned at the age of ten, set out to make his fortune... At least, that's the common legend. No one really knows the true origins, but they do know it relates to the old, unassuming city. With the old Patriarch gone, the family line now consists of brothers Marcus and Tarma . Tarma was married once, but his wife only bore twin daughters before her sudden illness. Marcus, however, bore a son and a daughter with Celadon.

THE COAT OF ARMS - Currently with Radegast.
An Aegislash called "Reginald", an ageless blade of indestructible metal said to house the spirits of all Reginalds who came before. After many generations, it is doubtlessly an immensely powerful creature. The shield bears the Reginald coat of arms, a circle of shining silver, surrounded by three black crescent moons, all on a sea of deep sage. The circle represents the Shield of Light, the green represents the origins of the family- the deep greens of Fuschia. No one remembers what the crescent moons mean, however. Many have their theories.
The Coat of Arms is incredibly wise, but very dim. It almost never picks up on lingo and nuance in language beyond the literal definition of words. Despite the dimwittedness, it has lived as long as the entire family line. As a result, it is highly knowledgeable in history, and especially battle strategy.
It acts less like a pokemon, and more like an extension of the user's own mind, very much like a Stand. It would act automatically, with, without, or even against the user's orders. This is because the Aegislash is an immensely powerful, independent creature with an extremely powerful, and extremely specific sense of duty. It will put it's own life before those of the ones it is sworn to protect... though good luck killing it.
Abilities: Stance Change
Moveset:
-King's Shield
-Sacred Sword
-Aerial Ace
-Flash Cannon
-Fury Cutter
-Shadow Ball
The Aegislash can "fuse" with a living blood Reginald to bolster its abilities as well as the human's abilities by a significant margin. Along with this transformation comes the addition of the following attacks at full-power.
-Hyper Beam
-Giga Impact
-Fissure
-Ice Beam
Fusion also negates all type weaknesses inherent to the Aegislash, and in fact renders all type attacks at least half as effective. The cost of such an incredible power is severe... and only a living Reginald can perform this particularly powerful brand of Spirit Bonding.

Moves discovered whilst fused with Radegast:
Slash - Simply any attack with the blade or the shield would register as this.
Icy Wind - A vastly inferior version of the Ice Beam, but still chills enemies all the same.

TARMA REGINALD - DECEASED
As the older brother, he is the standing Patriarch of the family. Though he was quite healthy at the age of 60, his health has rapidly deteriorated, to the point where he requires Soundwave, or at least a cane, to move around. The reason for this is a past fusion with Reginald the Aegislash. Most recently, due to fusion, Tarma has lost the strength in his legs to walk again. As the living Patriarch, he is the one who currently commands the Coat of Arms. Compared to Marcus, Tarma is a far wiser, more informed man. With the exception of the Coat of Arms, his closest friends are approximately level 70. All have been absorbed by Reginald the Aegislash
Soundwave the Noivern - A Noivern almost as old as Tarma. Larger than the average Noivern. Tarma's starter. Knows Fly, but the speakers on his head have seen better days.
Exploud
Chatot
Bronzong

MARCUS REGINALD
The younger brother, whose initial dislike of being the younger brother turned into a deeply passionate desire to hold to tradition. This is mainly because Tarma had no sons. Though very cold and blunt, impatient, and eager to conquer his foes in the field of battle, he is a loving father. He is aware of Radegast's intentions, and is surprisingly cool with his son's group's slow, yet steady development. However, he does plan to crush his son on his terms, to show his son the way the world works. When the time comes, Marcus will show his son what it means to be a Ruulan. All of his pokemon are approximately level 80.
Is now the standing Patriarch.
Palkia - Holds a grudge against Radegast. Marcus captured him in order to keep him away from an evil force that's still out there.
Rotom - His most treasured inheritance from his father. Acts very much like a butler.
Golurk - Marcus' personal bouncer, basically.
Swampert
Yanmega - Marcus' starter. Knows Fly, but his bug-like eyes are graying, and relies on Marcus' touch to know where and how to fly.

CELADON REGINALD
Marcus' wife, a terrifying trainer in her own right. She and Marcus teamed up to conquer the Team Doubles tournaments. She and Marcus were two peas in a pod when they first met. Even so late in their marriage, they still finish each others' sentences in a cute way. A natural at the arts of Pokemon breeding. While stories tell of her unparalleled warmth towards others and especially her husband, her son running away had triggered something dark and terrible within. This borderline hatred makes her the most dangerous and unpredictable of all the Reginalds. All of her pokemon are approximately level 80, matching Marcus' team.
Flygon - Knows Fly
Venusaur
Shedinja - Celadon's starter, a tireless bodyguard who protects her from the shadows at all times. The Ninjask who had produced it has long passed away, and was buried in the gardens for unending service and friendship.
Gallade - Often teams up with Marcus' Golurk as personal bouncers.

MARGRIET REGINALD
An incredibly attractive Champion-tier trainer with Hall of Fame entries in both the Kanto and Hoenn leagues. She is a model and aspiring actress, but is easily flustered by the ridiculous name "Marge". She hones her skills in private events, where she was offered many a deal for products. She is her parents' daughter, and sort of resents her brother for rejecting the family business, as well as causing irreparable damage to the family she loves. All of her pokemon are approximately level 60.
Crobat
Delphox
Poliwrath - Her starter.
Golem
Weavile
Raikou - A gift from Marcus, and Mergriet's closest friend next to Poliwrath, her starter.

TARMA'S TWINS
Nadine and Cori Reginald. They're rarely without their respective starters- An Abomasnow and a Ludicolo respectively.
Few ever talk about them, except for Tarma, who always raves about how wonderful his daughters are, and how much they make him proud.
Incidentally, the Twins run a gardening shop, and have not even attempted a Pokemon challenge. Now in their mid-late twenties, they have a chain running, and have recently expanded to Unova, opening a shop in Driftveil City.

RADEGAST REGINALD
The only son. He nicknamed the Coat of Arms "Reggie", which brought laughter from Tarma, but a lecture on "respect" from Marcus. Their relationship is... complicated... Especially now that they know he is alive and well in Unova- up until Radegast disappeared again.
Small note: Radegast is the only member of the family with muscle definition.

LUCY REGINALD
Disowned.

THE GUARD / FAMILY FRIENDS
As a powerful family, the Reginalds have many a contact either under their employ or under the value of friendship. It is the Guard that makes them appear to be mobsters, but many of them are profoundly grateful for the opportunities they were so lucky to have. The Reginalds have many a contact they can call for many a favour, but the core of their influence is maintained at the hands of three individuals.
LOGAN DE JONG
At seventeen years of age, Logan is pretty much the son Marcus wanted to have. However, due to the strict code the Reginalds hold, Logan would only be a legible heir if he married Margriet, and Radegast was dead. Though he's a better man than to ever consider murder, he does have a huge crush on Margriet.
Peregrine - A Pidgeot - Level 39
Magmatron - A Heatran, a reward from Marcus for great service, and also Logan's "badge' as Marcus' Right Hand. - Level 50
Marth - An Absol, a fiercely loyal friend, and Logan's original starter. - Level 40
PERCY FLETCHER
At twenty-nine, he's earned a prestigious position as the Left Hand. Taken in at a young age, he sees Marcus like the father he never had.
Wolverine - A Typhlosion, and Percy's starter - Level 31
Spotlight - A Lanturn - Level 30
GREGORY FLETCHER
Percy's younger brother. Twenty-eight years-old. He also sees Marcus as a father. While he's not as good a fighter as Percy or Logan, Gregory found his calling as an operator. He can drive and pilot many vehicles in Ruula, from cars to planes to boats.
Pin - A Cacturne - Level 29
Spearhead - A Fearow - Level 27

THE ESTATE - DESTROYED

The Reginald Estate was bordered by a ten-foot wall at key positions. Within the walls is an immense garden that spans from front to back, with only the two-story mansion itself to interrupt it. At the far back, a huge, ancient tree still blooms pink leaves every spring, overlooking the entrance to the Catacombs like an undying protector.

THE CATACOMBS - DESTROYED

A spiralling tunnel leading deeper and deeper, splitting off into rooms full of coffins, empty or occupied. Most of the coffins are empty, due to the owners' bodies and souls being absorbed by the Aegislash to bolster its power. The following is an incomplete list of Reginalds of the past.

-Mario Reginald - The First Reginald. His name is kept secret only by the Coat of Arms, but the gist of his legend is still known. A nobody who set out to make his fortune in an ordinary Pokemon journey, who later discovered the Spirit Bond and used it to give Reginald the Aegislash his soul, so the Aegislash could protect the family beyond death. The Spirit Bond knowledge was lost with him, until rediscovered centuries later. Some argue that the First didn't discover the Spirit Bond first, but others counter-argue the existence of Reginald is undeniable proof that the First did, in fact, discover the Spirit Bond centuries before the official discovery.
-The Second through Ninth - All names also lost, but their stories remain on faded plaques.
-The Tenth Reginald. A rebellious Reginald who defaced the Catacombs in order to try to rewrite history, slain by his son and Reginald, and cursed to be known only as "The Vandal". His coffin has since been removed by Lucy Reginald.
-Illya Reginald - The Tenth Reginald's son, heralded as "Holder of the Bloodline"
-"The Scorpion" - A warrior whose real name was lost to terrible conflict. Lived during some of the bloodiest battles between three other families. The Reginalds were the last family standing by the end of it. The ultimate symbol of the Reginald supremacy.
-Fargo Reginald, the first of his name
-Fargo Reginald II
-Fargo Reginald III
-Fargo Reginald IV, Saviour of Lavaridge.
-Orson Reginald, the first of his name, the "Peacemaker of Johto.ā€ Long, long, very long ago, Kanto and Johto were at war. The actions of Orson from Kanto and his future wife from Johto had formed a peace agreement. Next to Orsonā€™s tomb was a more intricately designed tomb, labeled ā€œThe love of my life, Barbara Reginald.ā€What was not written was that Orson was actually the Supreme Commander of the Kanto armies, and he had claimed Barbara (among other political and resource gains) in exchange for peace between the two regions. As they say, history was written by the victor, and much of that truth was lost in the generations that passed, especially in the fires four hundred years ago.
-Shin Reginald, the Great Ninja. Founder of the Old Fuscia Martial College, where he experimented and discovered leaps and bounds in the studies of poisons and antidotes, and also founder of the style that changed and evolved into what Kantoā€™s current Gym Leaders now practice. His wifeā€™s tomb was labeled ā€œKeeper of the Great Antidote.ā€ Shinā€™s school itself was long gone, but many styles of martial arts that incorporate traditional methods use the same methods first applied there, especially those designed to hone oneā€™s resistance to toxins.
-Horace Reginald, "The Kraken.ā€ Long ago, he and Kyogre did battle on the sea. The reasons have been lost, but the two fought to a stalemate, and the Kyogre granted Horace ā€œThe Boon of the Seaā€, where he and his kin would find a friend in the seas for generations to come.
-ā€œThe Jaguarā€ Reginald II - The master thief, who dedicated his life to helping folk improve on their security. The name is worn-out on his coffin. However, given that he was the son of The Kraken, some theorize his name was also Horace.
-Florence Reginald, "The Family Manā€ - Had twenty children, never did battle in his time.
-Gregorovich Reginald, The Lion. Father of Tarma and Marcus Reginald, grandfather to Radegast, Margriet, and Tarma's twin daughters Nadine and Cori. Named "The Lion" due to his impressive beard and flowing hair, as well as his ferocity and strength. Wrestled bear Pokemon in his time. Sacrificed himself in the Shadow Dimension to stop a great evil.
-Patricia Reginald, the great evil Gregorovich sacrificed himself to destroy. The mother of Lucy Reginald, had attempted to take the power of Giratina as her own.

So begins...

"Guys! Shh! I think I hear something!" Touko chastised the others as she tried to wriggle her way further into the foliage. "If any wild Pokemon jump me, cover me please! I can't really reach my belt, the undergrowth is so dense..."

Touko proceeded to try to push her way through the brush, but it was slow going. If a stronger woman like Titania were to take point, she could probably go through this as easily as a Tauros, but at the cost of possibly alerting others. So she settled for being a tushy pusher whenever the smaller mousy brunette got stuck. After this happened a few times, Touko seemed a bit upset. "What's the deal with being a shiri-oshi, huh?"

"We gotta track this thing down, and fast, before it moves on, or worse gets the drop on us. So we have to keep moving...and if you can't move, I'll make you move," was Titania's unsympathetic response. Damn, that cold-steel demeanor was on lock right now...as was her danger sense. Eventually they found the rock formation.

"Kuso. I can barely get my hand in there...hey. Logan, Margriet. Either of you got more rice to feed our little friend here? Do that, poor thing looks scared. Titania and I are going on ahead to see what would be stupid enough to set up shop so close to some of the strongest Trainers in the region, if not the world."

Margriet nudged Logan with an elbow, and the bodyguard nodded and approached the rock formation. ā€œHey, itā€™s the rice guy. Whatā€™s happening? Youā€™ve got us worried, buddy.ā€

ā€œMaybe one of your Pokemon could coax them out?ā€ Margriet asked.

ā€œHang onā€¦ā€ Logan plucked one of the balls from his belt. His Absol friend emerged.

ā€œOh!ā€ Margriet understood what Logan was doing, ā€œGood idea!ā€

ā€œMarth, weā€™re trying to find out whatā€™s happening. Can you sense any disasters coming?ā€

Marth sniffed the air, letting his black horn take in the air in the sky. He then shook his head.

ā€œMaybe itā€™s on a different island?ā€ Margriet asked.

ā€œOr maybe itā€™s not a natural disaster,ā€ Logan posed, ā€œThanks anyway, Marth.ā€

The Absol cooā€™d calmly before being returned.

ā€œI donā€™t get it, though,ā€ Margriet pondered aloud, ā€œWhy would someone take bones? Is it for a museum or something?ā€

Again, there was no reply. When Touko and Logan examined the rock formation, particularly the small holes within, they would soon notice that many of them were disjointed. None of the rocks were actually formed together over a long period of time so much as they were piled up over the course of a night or two. Whatever this was that the Pikipek flew into, it was slowly becoming more obvious that it wasn't there before, nor did it blend in very well with the remainder of the rock wall.

And the ones who were standing right next to it...they could feel a slight cool air blowing from the holes, signaling the vast cave system behind it.

"We could use Rock Smash," Margriet noted almost immediately.

"I might not advise it," Logan scratched his head, "The poor guy was freaking out already. Who knows how he'd react if we busted down his door?

"We'll go find another entrance then," Margriet headed South along the stone wall, with Logan in tow.

"Right. But watch each other's backs out there, no telling what's going on here." Titania stepped back and looked at the formation a bit. "Hm...there's a lot of space between the rocks, so this is a recent formation, probably artificial. If there was an eruption, surely we would have heard about it, so something made this in a hurry."

"Shut up and gimme a boost," Touko complained. "I can't get a good grip. I think I see something, but it's too tall for me to reach."

"All right, kiddo, hang on, let me leash you up." Titania whipped an escape rope out of her toolbox and used it to belay Touko. "I'm not sure if I'm allowed to tell you this, but I used this technique when I assaulted Mount Silver back when I was the Indigo champ. I didn't make it to the top, though...the weather was just too harsh."

Using this two-person technique, Touko and Titania were able to scale the rock wall. "Nani? I don't...I don't even know what I'm looking at here..." Touko sounded more than a little frightened.

When Touko and Titania scaled the pile of rocks, they would finally discover a sizable hole near the top that was large enough for a human to barely squeak through. Although, the narrow and rigid infrastructure of such a hole hinted that the human had to be of a small, wiry frame like Touko and not like the muscly Titania.

From the hole, they could see a small light glowing from within, a pale blue stone. At least whatever was on the other side would be lit up.

Meanwhile, Margriet's and Logan's journey went further southbound as the two hugged the wall that marked the edge of the Vast Poni Canyon. With most of the trainers beaten by the combative efforts of Touko and Titania, they would have no opposition backtracking through the Poni Gauntlet as they searched for another way in.

They wouldn't have to travel for very long. A few minutes later, they would soon see a Raticate scurrying across the path, running towards a large crack in the wall. It appeared to be holding something in it's hands, but it was moving too fast to make out what it was other than a flash of purple. It glanced to the left and right, then back left again before stepping into the large crack and heading deeper within. It had completely missed Logan and Margriet.

As for the crack, the hole was small, meaning only a small trainer could slide their way through.

"Ugh. Errrrgh!" Titania tried and failed to widen the gap between the rocks. "No way my motherly figure is fitting down there. Good thing I brought this rope. Touko, I'm going to lower you in there. I see a light down there, which should be enough to see by, but no easy way out if shit goes south, so you're staying on the line we used to get here. Got that?"

"Hai, taichou," Touko nodded, figuring Titania needed the ego boost from giving orders to others. Given what she had seen in those eyes and those words, she could use more than a little humoring every now and then. Touko wriggled through, and instantly sighed in relief at getting out of the sun.

"There's some kind of stone here. It's blue...and it's glowing. Kinda reminds me of Zekrom's tail, but without the smell of ozone. I'll need a minute to adapt to the low light in here...my dragon can't possibly fit."

"Take your time, not like I'm sweating my ass off up here," came Titania's sarcastic response.

"Right. I'll try to make it quick. Hope whatever made this is friendly."

Logan took point in attempting to squeeze through, only he didnā€™t quite manage. Margriet wound up pulling the bodyguard out and squeezing through herself. Her strong, yet lithe frame easily fit through the crack in the wall.

ā€œIā€™ll keep in touch,ā€ Margriet said, much to Loganā€™s objection.

The bodyguard hummed in disappointment as he picked out a nearby rock to sit on. Once more, he brought out Marth for the sake of company.

ā€œDemonbreath, huhā€¦ā€ Logan muttered. He turned his head toward the Absol, who lay down next to the rock. ā€œAny idea what it means?ā€

Marthā€™s answer would go way over Loganā€™s head, for the bodyguard did not know Pokespeak. However, the uncertain silence seemed to be all that was needed.

ā€œThereā€™s gotta be some missing context,ā€ Logan muttered to himself, ā€œPeople in long white coatsā€¦ā€ They must have been scientists of some sortā€¦ Come to think of it, why take the bones now? They were already a mild tourist attraction indicated on a map. Why would they be taken away now if it was simply for a museum piece?

Logan couldnā€™t make sense of that idea, nor any other he could think of.

Margriet would enter through the other side, encountering pitch darkness apart from a tiny sliver of light emanating from the crack in the wall. It gave the small cave-like intrusion she was in enough light to sense out dimensions...which weren't that big. She may just barely be able to call one Pokemon to her side if something were to jump out at her and attack. But no such Pokemon was doing that right now at least.

As her eyes would adjust to the darkness, she would be able to spot a small tunnel to the right appearing to head downward. And she would also hear faint voices, unintelligible from a distance. Yet, she could probably tell that they were arguing about something.

"Delphox, give us some light," Margriet commanded as she summoned the Psychic/Fire-type fox Pokemon. With a wand like a blazing torch, the Delphox bathed the immediate area with warm light.

The cave walls flickered black and orange as shadows danced with their movement. Margriet maintained focus on the arguing further in, trying to decipher what was being said.

As they moved, the talking grew louder and more clear.

"You don't understand," Margriet would recognize this voice as the Pikipek from earlier, "This could mean seriously bad things for us all! You, me, everybody! Nothing in the Alola Region is safe if I'm right."

The voiced that responded wasn't one the elite Reginald would recognize, speaking low in tone and harsh conviction, "I'm not afraid of some big bad monster coming to tear the island to shreds. It actually sounds more like a prize!"

"Please, sir!" the Pikipek was on the verge of losing it's mind all together, "Demonbreath is not a being to be taken lightly!"

"He's right," another voice chimed in, this one nasally and snarky in tone, "It doesn't matter what you're capable of. If Demonbreath is coming back, we need to be ready to leave. You said you had bases set up all over Ruula, right?"

"We are NOT leaving the island!" the harsh voice snarled, "We have a mission to complete and I will not have it crumble at the hands of some dead Dragonite who'll maybe come back! Now don't you have a job to do, little Birdy?"

"It's Cutley, thanks," the Pikipek replied indignantly.

"Commander Gnash!" a voice cried out suddenly, "I got it!"

At this point, Margriet and her Delphox would see a pale blue light brightening the passageway up ahead. It appeared to turn to the left. She could even see shadows on the wall appearing in front of her. It was the shape of the Raticate, holding the thing it had carried with it high in the air as a presentation. Again, not much could be made out except that it was spherical in shape barring a couple of bumps on the top.

And now Margriet had to made a decision. She was just behind the corner she needed to round. She could stick to her hiding tactic and listen to the conversation further without seeing anything. She could peek her head around the corner and try to see what was going on as well as hear, but at the risk of discovery. Or, if she was feeling really cocky, she could strut right in there and demand some context, but who knows what would happen then.

As Delphox extinguished the flame when they got closer, Margriet considered her options. Returning? She wondered, First the Rebellion, now this...

Margriet reached into her hip bag and produced a small makeup kit. From the kit, she reclaimed a small black clamshell mirror. Using the mirror, she would chance a peek around the corner, aiming to see what that spherical object was.

Margriet had the perfect view of everything in the cavern all thanks to her mirror and it's reflective properties. She would pass over the two Rattatas, one Alolan and one Normal, sitting right next to each other. The mirror would pass over the Pikipek next, glowering with anger at a Pokemon that had yet to enter her view point. But before she could get there, she passed over the Raticate holding up the spherical object as if it were a prize. And Margriet would easily see why. If the white bottom and purple top weren't a clue, the pink-ish circles jutting out on the top would be easily recognizable. She wouldn't even have to see the large "M" printed on the front.

It was a Master Ball.

"Good Arceus!" the Pikipek named Cutley was the first to freak out, fluttering backwards as far from the iconic PokeBall as he could, "How'd you even find one of those?!"

"We know a kid," came the amused growl from the far left of the room. Margriet would undoubtedly point the mirror in it's direction to reveal a rather large Krookodile sitting on top of a stone pillar as if it were a bar stool. He was grinning from ear to ear as he stepped down and approached the Alolan Raticate, "Well done, Burke. I see our distraction was enough for you to snag the ball when the Champion wasn't looking."

A Starmie floated into the gaze of the mirror frame as it spoke, "A well placed Water Gun if I do say so myself!"

But the Krookodile didn't even seem to acknowledge him as he grabbed the Master Ball and went back, "With this, we can go ahead and begin our own search for some of the island's legendaries-"

Clomp! Clomp! Clomp!

The sound of large footsteps broke through the conversation and the Krookodile stopped, glancing to his left with suspicion and then spoke low...cautiously and with venom, "Cutley...you didn't lead the people you were supposed to be watching over here, did you?"

"No sir!" came the Pikipek's initial response, but as he began thinking about it, his answer became more unsure, "At least, I don't think so. I was so worried about the reincarnation of Demonbreath, I didn't really think about it."

"You better not have," the Krookodile's voice remained low and threatening. Cutley gulped in response.

"Chip! Fang!" the Rattata stood to attention, "You both go after that sound. Burke, you join them. And if it is our friend," he shot Cutley a glare, "Then bring her back to us so we can give her a 'proper' introduction."

"Yes sir!" the three collective voices cried in unison as they both scampered down the left path and gave chase. Meanwhile, Gnash began examining the Master Ball from his own perch, looking it over, "So this is what hell looks like..."

Margriet and her Delphox exchanged concerned looks as Margriet beheld the Master Ball. A Pokemon couldnā€™t possibly have any use for any Pokeball, let alone the rarest most powerful of them all. As she thought, she recalled the intel that had been gathered about the Psychic Rebellion. Specifically, the mention of their own technology, repurposed human technology.

Whatever they had planned for ā€œThe Championā€™s own Master Ballā€, it couldnā€™t possibly be good.

The loud clomping of someoneā€™s boots somewhere else in the cave turned out to be a wonderful distraction. Margriet produced one of her pokeballs and flung it into the cave.

ā€œRaikou! Discharge! Aim to paralyze!ā€ She called as the magnificent beast burst forth. For a moment, she waited until Raikouā€™s blast of electricity washed over the room before throwing her second Pokeball. ā€œPoliwrath! Target the Krookodile! Hydro Pump!ā€

After sending out her Poliwrath follow-up, Margriet strode into the open with her Delphox by her side. Her expression was that of a true Reginald: calm, cold, and calculated, as were her Pokemon. The Delphox flooded the room with a pale orange light. As Poliwrath began his follow-up, Margriet began unhitching her other pokeballs.

The pitter-patter of two Rattata moving to cut off Touko's flight were soon drowned out by the sounds of a fierce battle back in the main chamber. Kuso...did they come to blows over something? No. There were definitely the sounds of a Trainer giving orders.

"Well, so much for that approach. Claw, time to show me what you can do!"

"The fuck? You two separated at birth or somethin'? I'll bring you back together!" Claw made it a habit of bad-mouthing his opponents in the common tongue, it seemed, a habit of which Titania had warned her.

"Don't Earthquake in here, Claw, that'll bring the whole thing down on us. Use Rock Slide, that's more controlled!"

"Got it. Let's make it rain!" Claw jumped up to the ceiling, his body assuming a torpedo-like shape before striking hard at one of the rocks in the tunnel, triggering a controlled collapse right on top of both of the poor Rattata.

"I ain't stickin' around for their boss to show up. Let's move, kid!"

"Right! Claw, return!" Once again Touko hoofed it while Margriet was providing cover fire. There was the Escape Rope, hanging right there in front of her...

"Hang on, Touko! Just grab the rope and I'll pull you up!"

That was Titania's voice!

"Better plan. Margriet came around and is fighting them outright. Bust a hole and get down here, I don't know how long she can last by herself!"

"Right!" With that, Titania widened the hole in the ceiling with a well-placed stomp and dropped down. "Let's take 'em down, kid...together."

The three remaining individuals in the room whirled around to where the Reginald was standing. Gnash launched to his feet. Cutley made a solid "Eep!" sound before flying out of the room.

"Cutley, you TWERP!" the Krookodile roared in rage as the Discharge began running through the room. The Starmie floated behind the Commander, letting him take the full brunt of the attack, which would do literally nothing to him. When the Hydro Pump was sent in his direct, the reverse happened, Starmie floating above and in front of the Krookodile to take the brunt of that attack. It would do very little, despite the torrential power of the attack.

"Well hello there," Gnash snarled at Margriet. From his intel, he knew that she could understand him in his tongue, "I'm glad you could join us, actually. You have something I want."

He bared his teeth against his opponents: a classic Fire, Water, Electric trio. The Poliwrath would be a tough opponent to face for sure, given how much it actually had an edge on him. Delphox wasn't too impactful, but he had his Starmie here who could take care of her. However, his eyes were resting on the Raikou with hungry delight, teeth gleaming in Margriet's face.

"Saphira, bring that Delphox to it's knees," Gnash commanded, pointing at the Fox Pokemon.

"Of course, sir, but first..." The Starmie spun in place, the gemstone in it's center beginning to sparkle. In another instant, the purple, shadowy beam of Confuse Ray launched forward and struck the Raikou square on the forehead, rendering the Thunder Pokemon confused.

"A little precaution for my safety," he concluded as he turned to face the Delphox.

Meanwhile, the Krookodile let loose a mighty roar, one that shook the foundation around them. Barring a couple rocks falling down in a few random places, it wouldn't do anything in physical damage.

The Rattata were easily steamrolled by the Rock Slide, rendered still by the mighty gap of experience between the Excadrill and his opponents.

But as Titana and Touko caught up, so did a particular Raticate, who had lagged behind the two scouts and stumbled upon the scene where his fallen brothers lie. Turning to the two perpetrators, he smashed his fists together as he approached, ready to do some actual damage.

With one hand, Margriet sent out three more Pokeballs. ā€œCover me!ā€ She called as she reached into her bag and produced a Full Heal. ā€œWeavile, Night Slash! Crobat, Air Cutter! Poliwrath and Golem, cover Delphox! Delphox, Fire Spin!ā€ She barked her commands loud, quickly, and without hesitation. The curt harshness was completely different to her typical softer voice. It seemed to instil a fighting spirit into her comrades. If Radegast were a strong trainer for not taking command, his sister was a stronger trainer for taking command.

From the first Pokeball, a blur of blue-black and maroon. A Weavile darted right up to the Starmie to unleash a Night Slash. Meanwhile, Crobat took to the air and flapped its wings to conjure blades made of the cavern air itself. The blades were launched at the Krookodile.

Meanwhile, billowing flames began welling up around the Krookodile, manifesting into a small, controlled twister of fire. It aimed to hold the Krookodile in place.

Without hesitation, Margriet bounded toward her beloved Raikou with her Full Heal in hand.

---

Logan glanced around the path as he waited for Margriet's return. His unease manifested as a rapid bobbing in his leg as he sat. Marth rose a paw to rest on Logan's leg after seeing it.

"Thanks," Logan said, "I wish I could fit throu-"

A loud boom echoed through the cave entrance, causing Logan to flinch and jump to his feet. Wordlessly, he quickly suppressed his panic, and produced a Pokeball. "Stealth be damned... Magmatron, clear us a path!"

The trophy Heatran emerged and began cleaving the cave opening bigger with its massive jaws. It took point as it cleared a circular, half-melted opening for Logan and Marth to follow through.

"Psh? A Raticate? This is easy." Again Touko sent out Claw. "Let's change it up! Drill Run!" Again the Excadrill assumed its bullet shape, then ran forward into a leaping corkscrew headbutt...and kept going, right through the pile of rocks with the two Rattata underneath to disguise his approach like a land-bound torpedo and towards the Raticate.

Titania took charge of worrying about the surroundings. Sounds like someone else took the "screw stealth" approach as well. Once the Raticate was dealt with, the two ran forward once again to a chaotic battle scene. One of the participants immediately caught their eye.

"Heatran? Oh...oh my god!" Titania was ecstatic. "I want one!!"

"After this, we can head over to Lentimas Town where I'm from, it's near a volcano we call Reversal Mountain, so you just might get your chance," Touko informed her older partner. "The wildlings...they sounded like they were arguing before. Oh man...they're really good at switching off to resist attacks meant for their partner. Looks like the best thing is to use something that's neutral on everybody..." Touko was watching the melee unfold. "Geez, how is she commanding that many PokƩmon at once? Even I have a hard time with three..."

"I've got just the thing! You're on, Tsareena!" Titania cut off Touko's musings by sending out a regal-looking floral PokƩmon that seemed to be rocking thigh-high stockings.

"I thought you were a Steel user?" Touko looked confused.

"I was. But ever since moving to Alola, I realized that I had to change it up. The thing about specializing in one type is that there are some things you just can't beat no matter how hard you try. More about that later! Use Trop Kick! Aim for the Starmie!"

If Titania's prediction was correct, Gnash would switch off and try to take the super effective hit like before...and still take damage, even suffer an attack drop in the process. And if not, she would shut down a potentially nasty Ice Beam or Confuse Ray. It was moments like these that she was able to show why she was a champion.

In one moment, the battle was easily in their favor. Both the Night Slash and the Air Cutter landed on their respective targets, doing a significant amount to the Starmie and an insignificant amount to the Krookodile. The Raticate gave easily to the might of the Drill Run and the extra mmph! added to the Rattata combo was simply overkill. The Fire Spin did ensnare Gnash from within and all seemed to go according to plan.

But just as Margriet's cavalry arrived...so did theirs.

The receiver of the Trop Kick wouldn't be Saphira nor would it be Gnash. In actuality, a Boldore would appear from the ground, taking the strike and returning the favor with a Smack Down. Two Oricorio, one P'au Style and one Sensu Style, launched forward and attacked. P'au Style took on the Poliwrath, striking with Acrobatics while Sensu Style collided with the Crobat using Revelation Dance. A Pangoro leaped over the action and smashed into the Weavile, followed by a Medicham who threw a Zen Headbutt at Margriet's Weavile.

Saphira took the opening brought by the Fighting duo to rush over to Gnash, applying Rapid Spin above him. The move would service nothing other than to dissipate the Fire Spin, rendering Gnash mobile again. As for the Krookodile, the first thing his eyes would lay upon was the Champion rushing forward with a Full Heal in hand.

Oh, no you don't... Gnash thought angrily as he vaulted himself forward and rammed his left fist against her sternum, his right swiping the Full Heal in the shock that would ensue from his own blow and likely send her against a wall. He was very strong after all.

"Saphira!" he called, flinging the Full Heal over towards the Starmie, "Get yourself healed again. I'd prefer you alive right now."

Saphira, in turn, caught the Full Heal using Tekekinetic abilities and began to heal itself from the drastic effects of Night Slash. All the while, Gnash turned and faced the Raikou, now unabated from his beat-down.

"You're mine now," he growled.

Before Gnash could close the distance between himself and Margriet, the Golem Rolled Out. It avoided the Pangoro with the speed of the rolling, and used the Krookodileā€™s tunnel vision as a way to secure a hit. Margriet side-stepped away from the Krookodile anyway to avoid a potential lucky hit and made it to her Raikou. However, a lucky hit did knock the Full Heal out of Margrietā€™s hand, but it was more a wayward swing of Gnashā€™s tail, which sent the Full Heal into a darker area of the cavern. It was completely lost.

Itā€™s not like the Full Heal would have done anything for the Starmie; it was a Full Heal, not a Full Restore. All it did was status effects.

Weavile, on the other hand, took the Zen headbutt head-onā€¦ where nothing happened whatsoever. ā€œDudeā€¦ Dark-type,ā€ The Weavileā€™s mouth flattened in a flash of unamusement, before Margriet barked a rapid- seemingly impossible to follow series of commands, and a Psybeam launched from the Delphox towards the Medicham. The Weavileā€™s afterimage flickered, as its assault on the Starmie continued with a second Night Slash.

Poliwrath rolled to the side to avoid the Acrobatics, and as per Margrietā€™s instruction, focused a Hydro Pump at the Sensu-style Oricorio to give Crobat cover. Since the Full Heal didnā€™t work, Margriet had to use her Plan B.

ā€œCrobat! Haze!ā€ Margrietā€™s eyes seemed only to get sharper as she stared down the Krookodile with a bloodcurdling glare.

The Crobat, having retreated with Poliwrathā€™s cover, billowed a murky mist from its mouth and rapidly spread it throughout the cavern. The Raikou took a whiff, and its eyes suddenly regained focus.

ā€œCharge Beam, big guy!ā€ Margriet called.

The blast of electricity was aimed at the closer of two Oricorio- the Pau-style one, specifically. In mid-air, there wasnā€™t much the bird could do to dodge.

At this point, Logan arrived in full, and Magmatron (per Loganā€™s order) unleashed its own Fire Spin to trap the Krookodile. Gnash was closest to Margriet, so the bodyguardā€™s first target was trivial.

ā€œMarth! Help Poliwrath!ā€

The Absol complied, and bounded up and off the cavern walls to reach the Sensu-style Oricorio, and unleashed its own Night Slash.

Logan could hardly follow the fighting; he was a particularly inferior trainer. However, every little bit helps in a real fight.
