The Multiverse

Room of Reason

115.75 INK

a part of The Multiverse, by Remæus.

Leading off to the south from Castle Vankoryth's Entrance Hall via a heavy, wooden double door, is the Room of Reason. Inside the room cuts away from the more polygonal layout of the rest of the castle to become almost perfectly circular. The walls are lined with various tapestries and the only window, little more than an arrow-slit, is often covered by a miniature pair of crimson 'curtains'. The centre and main attraction of the room comes in the form of the large, round table carved from stone that sits in the middle. With enough room for perhaps twenty people to sit around the outside; and each would get their own chair fashioned out of oak and decorated with a slim, bold-coloured cushion.

"If indeed, for if Mariotto can subdue the creature..." He smiled.

The Harlequin had no idea what was going on, so decided to stay quiet and listen.

Dominic grinned at that. "That's deliciously evil. I like it."

"However we must first speak with Mariotto, and it is in my firm belief we should help him subdue-but not kill-the creature as we can." This was important, for he was not about to trick his Blood into battle. He smiled wickedly towards Dominic,
"We are Vampyres. "

Dominic sighed at that, nodding. "We are Vampyres, it's true. However, I find that I won't be able to help you much in combat. This form is weak and feeble, you see. I would like to request permission to call upon an old friend one who would no doubt help inordinately along the way should you require his services. If my lord shall allow it, that is."

"Of course!" How Casren loved new friends!
"As long as he can commit to the Creeds, he will always be welcome as Blood."

Dominic Mulligan nodded. "Well then, if we have nothing further to discuss, I shall call him here immediately. May I take my leave of you?

"Why are Werewolves so scary, anyway? If it can bleed it can die. Probably easily, too." He explained while rubbing the back of his head and leaning back in his chair.

"Really? Well, just set up a trap or something and it's as good as dead. It doesn't matter how strong or intelligent it is. We can get it, we just need the right plan."

He peered over at Daemala...

Daciana Johannesque trudged into the scene, yawning. There was the faintest blush on her cheeks and nose; she would be needing to feast soon once again. For now, however, she would have to deal with the drowsiness that tended to come when she crashed.

She had gone ahead from Charles, surprisingly arriving ahead of him. She would have to make sure and slow down her leisurely pace from now on. She looked and noted those present: Casren, Daemala, and the “family pet”. Already half tuned-out from the meeting she took a seat, dusting and pulling out an adjacent one for Charles.

Charles Lemarr enterred the room, nearly ripping the great doors from their hinges. He still bore the dark green cloak that had seen him through the dawn's early sun perhaps an hour earlier. Under it his left hand gripped the crosspiece of Mariotto's sword, running fingers over the metal edges. He had dire news in once sense; in another he came simply bearing a message. He knew little of Mariotto, only that he had sparked a conflict with a clan known by Charles only to be greater in strength and numbers.

"Here." Throwing the blade onto the round table ahead of the rest of the members Charles took his seat aside Daciana. "Found amid an ashen pile. I'm to wager the same wolf that assaulted me has killed Mariotto."

He had no words, only folded his hands beneath his chin and set his elbows on the table. So it was done then, Mariotto was dead. Finished. It was sad that it had to come to this, but what's done was done.

"So Mariotto is dead?" He turned his eyes on Charles, "And what do you think of this?"

The old dragon lifted her great head and moved it forward to inspect the sword. She had vaguely heard of the wolf that had come by and assaulted Charles, but she barely knew a thing, really. She did not even remember Mariotto, but if something was causing trouble for the group, something, obviously, had to be done. For now, she had no input, she just waited for a report.

"A burden relieved as I feel. However, if the Lessard's still seek our blood it will be a burden renewed." Charles rested an elbow on the table, covering the bottom of his chin with one hand. "Although prepared to go to war with them prior, I've come to learn of their power. I'm not so foolhardy to swiften my death as he did."

Charles Lemarr laughed at the prospect of asking the Lessard's for aid. When he'd lost at the hands of the beast he'd been at the disadvantage. Once the moon had fallen behind shadows he would have easily murdered the dog. "Let the moon fall Casren and I will deliver the wolf's head to your doorstep."

What's this? Usually the meetings Charles dragged her into thus far were sleep-inducing. Killed? War? It was like some Shakespearean play! But alas, all this talk of violence degraded into talk of possible diplomacy and such discussion very much turned off Daciana. Mayhaps it'd be different if she was acquainted with the deceased but that wasn't the case now, was it?

In her temporarily alert state the false hope had left her in, she could feel someone looking onto her. She looked up to Daemala, grinned silently and waved.

"Warning?" Daciana heard Mortuus' words "Are we gonna put a horse head in his bed?" Oh joy, playing 'mafia' sounded fun.

"The moon shone bright that night! The creature was stronger only by that!" Charles offered to the dragon. He'd yet to have actually met the beast and knew less of it than he did of anyone else. At least those that he'd heard of. "Again I say let the moon fall and I shall deliver it onto you."

listened carefully as his fellow Blood spoke. They all brought up good points, warning a territorial beast would do nothing. He nodded respectfully towards Charles.

"Killing it may be to no avail. We do not want to gather more enemies in the slaughtering of someone's pet. The moon was high, the unfair advantage is acknowledged. I know I do not doubt your strength," he smiled on Charles, much to Daemala's disapproval.

Then he nodded towards Mortuus, who spoke with wisdom of the years.

Pushing away the hand of his kin Charles rose to his feet. He would not wait for others to act against a wolf that had harmed him directly. The moon would begin to slowly mask itself as the days passed and in a fortnight he would be able to murder the dog wherever it stood, no matter who's pet it was. "If you'll not warrant the death of a stray I'll take it upon myself, not the Vankoryth." Taking his leave Charles paused at the door, turning back to view the assembled room. "If you seek to warn the beast I suggest you pray before you act. God isn't welcoming to heathens as I've come to know."
